Abstract

Highlights: [•] Pyronine Y (PYY) and Rhodamine 6G (R6G) both form complexes with graphene sheets. [•] Absorption of PYY- and R6G-graphene complexes showed the same band position. [•] The phenyl in R6G is not flattened to extend dye π-conjugation proposed in literature. [•] The neutral dyes zinc phthalocyanine and derivatives behave similarly to PYY and R6G. [•] CDG decreases the fluorescence intensity and lifetime of all the dyes effectively. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
