Despite the fact that military actions on the territory of Ukraine have been ongoing since year 2014, the negative consequences of which have been the destabilization of the political situation in the country and destructive processes in many spheres of life that caused the need for a complex solution including a legislative one by way of problematic issues that arise in connection with the implementation of criminal proceedings in the conditions of emergency, which drew attention in the scientific literature, the criminal and procedural legislation, unfortunately, turned out to be not ready for effective criminal proceedings in the conditions of martial law, which required prompt introduction of changes for the proper functioning of the entire criminal system of justice.

The paper deals with the issue of suicide and assisted suicide, especially its ethical, criminal law and canon law evaluation. In the first chapter, the author explains what needs to be perceived under these terms and how they differ from euthanasia, offers current statistics on suicides in the Slovak Republic and discusses basic types of suicides, evaluates the issue of the right to life from an ethical point of view and criticizes the concept of the “right to death”. He concludes that the possible legalization of assisted suicide and euthanasia would have widespread negative consequences. The second chapter of the paper is based on the constitutional guarantees of the right to life, which is also supported by the international obligations of the Slovak Republic in this area. Subsequently, it offers a criminal analysis of suicide and assisted suicide in the Slovak legal system. In the last, third chapter, the author finally discusses the issue from the perspective of the doctrine, law and practice of the Catholic Church.

In the paper, the author deals with the criminal offense of dangerous pursuing in accordance with paragraph 360a of the Criminal Code of the Slovak Republic, which is a part of the Slovak criminal legislation with effect from 1st September 2011. The basic outline of the criminal characterization presented in the paper is supplemented by its main theme which is the interpretation of the term “long-term” by the criminal offense of dangerous pursuing. The presented paper deals with this topic in general, with respect to the opinions of individual authors as well as to the application level. The author uses in particular the starting points of the doctrine and the application practice of the Slovak Republic and the Czech Republic, while comparing them with respect to the mutual applicability of approaches. A relatively new element is the legal sentence adopted by the Criminal College of the Supreme Court of the Czech Republic no. R 41/2019 which represents in the Czech Republic some element of the completion of the formation of settled practice in relation to the interpretation of the term “long-term pursuing”.

The subject of this paper is the offence of failure to prepare or to present the required documentation on a work-related accident. This offence is criminalised under the Article 221 of the Polish Criminal Code. The author begins by considering what kind of interest is protected against the offence in question and giving a definition of a work-related accident. The author then continues with a detailed analysis of the objective element of the offence and the offender. The author also explains the subjective element of this offence. She analyses the relevant provisions of the Criminal Code, the Labour Code and other legal acts concerning the labour and social insurance law. Finally, she gives some conclusions and makes a de lege ferenda postulate.

This paper focuses on the criminal offence of failure to report a work-related accident. The offence in question has been defined under the Article 221 of the Polish Criminal Code. The author starts by considering what kind of interest is protected against the offence in question and continues with a detailed analysis of the offender and the objective element of the offence. The author also explains the mental element of this crime and analyses the relevant provisions of the Polish Criminal Code, Labour Code and other legal acts concerning labour law and social insurance law.

The paper is mainly focused on alternative sanctions that are amended in the Spanish criminal law. We think that the Slovak criminal law is not very different in developing alternative sanctions as the Spanish criminal law and this is the main reason why we have entitled the presented paper with the above-mentioned title. The Spanish legal system (and most of legal systems) allows that some sanctions of deprivation of liberty can be suspended or substituted by other sanctions that prevent entry in prison if the offender fulfils the requirements.

In the paper the author concentrates on the issues of criminal offense of tax and insurance evasion from the view of the legal order of the Slovak Republic. She analyses the current legal regulation and related institutes, examines the deficiencies of the valid legislation, and provides suggestions and solutions de lege ferenda.

The presented paper is focused on analysing the issue of the Facebook reaction buttons as a form of hate speech. Pressing these buttons can spread hateful content through Facebook and disseminate extremist ideas. Currently, technologies are so much sophisticated that it is enough to do just one “click” on the computer mouse, touchpad, or display and the content is disseminated. According to the Criminal Code of the Slovak Republic, there it is possible to prosecute the user just for one pressing Facebook reaction button, hence for one “click” with what we disagree on and in the paper we state arguments which support our opinion.

In this paper we consider the system of criminal penalties in the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation in comparison with the systems of criminal penalties under the criminal law of the European Union countries. The author touches upon some questions of the classification of types of punishments in the system of punishments, principles of the penal system as well as distinctive features of the system of penalties provided by the Article 44 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
