ERROR messages (Computer science) ,WINDOWS (Graphical user interfaces) ,ELECTRONIC file management ,SPYWARE (Computer software) ,CACHE memory - Abstract
This article provides solutions to error messages in computers. Explorer.exe, otherwise known as Windows Explorer, is the program in Windows that helps users manage files. For the computer user who encounters problems with the application, it is recommended that he should start by scanning his system for viruses and deleting any that he finds. Next, he should download and install a free anti-spyware utility, such as Ad-Aware SE Personal or Spybot Search & Destroy. The anti-spyware utility will locate and delete many of the malware programs, such as BonziBUDDY or Ftapp.dll, known to cause this particular error. After the scan, the user should empty his browser caches to delete any harmful residue that might still be on his system. To do this, he should open Internet Explorer's Tool menu, select Internet Options, choose the General tab, and click the Clear History and Delete Files options. In both cases, he should click Yes if prompted to verify his actions. When the caches are empty, he can click OK to close the dialog box. It is also suggested that the user install the Service Pack 2 version of Windows XP and other Windows updates, all of which are available by visiting windows update.microsoft.com.

This section provides instructions in compressing and encrypting folders in the Windows Me operating system. Users of Windows Me in particular are often affected by the benefits, and occasional drawbacks, of compression and encryption. Understanding how to compress and encrypt folders, as well as how to access them, are necessary components of the computing experience. Windows Me is often characterized as a problematic operating system, and identifying this characterization is an important starting point when using its compression and encryption features. Windows Me made file compression and encryption a standard feature, and this meant that, for the first time, users in business and home settings could send and receive multiple folders that previously would have occupied a substantial amount of drive space. To install folder compression in Windows Me, choose Start, Settings, and Control Panel. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon and then select the Windows Setup tab. Next, highlight System Tools and click the Details button. Place a check mark in the box next to Compressed Folders and click OK twice. Meanwhile, encryption in Windows Me is something of a misnomer. Rather than actually encrypting the newly compressed folder, users will in fact be protecting it with a password.

the article offers ideas on using the file encryption feature of Windows XP (WinXP). For easier handling of encrypted data, it is best to designate one or more specific folders to encrypt and then place all the sensitive files within them. The time needed to perform the initial encryption depends on a number of factors such as file or folder size and speed of the system. However, enabling encryption does add some system overhead and might slow down the performance while with encrypted files, but the effect should not be very noticeable unless the system is quite old. When encrypting files in WinXP, it is critical that the user account have a strong password.

This article reviews PentaSuite 7 computer software from PentaWare. From the central PentaWare Manager, users can launch any of a wide selection of file management utilities that run similarly well. For example, PentaZip handles compression duties with an interface that is reminiscent of other well-known zip utilities and features a wizard for compressing or extracting files. Also handy is PentaSend, which lets users take advantage of its logical interface to easily encrypt and decrypt files and send them using any of various transfer methods. PentaWhiteBoard is similarly neat, capturing frames from video files and saving them as graphics files. If that is not enough, they will also find tools for File Transfer Protocol transfers, photo thumbnail browsing, Hypertext Markup Language photo album creation, and more. One of the most powerful tools included with PentaSuite is PentaPDF, which lets users create Portable Document Format files directly from Microsoft Word, PentaView, PentaConverter, and the right-click context menu in Windows Explorer. If users grow tired of switching among a profusion of utilities to handle file management duties, PentaSuite offers a tidy alternative. Also attractive is the price; at $100, users will have a tough time assembling an equally powerful collection for the same cost.

This article reviews the pdfFactory software from FinePrint Software. Portable Document Format (PDF) is a technology that enables content developers to publish their documents in a universally accepted electronic format without compromising graphic, fonts, layout and other design elements. The software actually exists as a printer driver that shows up whether the users access the Print command from within a Windows application. When the Print dialog box appears on-screen, users simply select pdfFactory as the designated printer and click the Print button. The document would not print on the printer, instead, a second dialog box appears in which users can configure basic fonts and link settings, preview how the document will look as a PDF file and save it as a PDF file. Users can also print the file or mail it as a PDF attachment. The software cannot be used to edit PDF documents or generate new content. What it does is convert content from one or more applications into a compact searchable PDF file users can share with anyone who has Adobe Reader. Small businesses and self-employed individuals will benefit from the opportunity to create low-cost PDF files for Web and electronic mail distribution.
