In the commercializing process of plasma display panels, enhancing the luminous efficiency of the panel to reduce the power consumption is one of the most imminent objectives. A novel sustaining waveform with higher luminous efficiency and its corresponding energy-recovery driving circuit are proposed. Under the experiment of a 42-inch plasma panel, the luminous efficiency is enhanced more than 30%. The proposed sustaining waveform can also be operated at the appropriate frequency around 180kHz to get the large margin of the sustaining voltage.

Small size passive matrix organic light emitting display (PM-OLED) has the advantages of simple manufacture process and low total cost. Typical pulse width modulation (PWM) driving method consumes large peak driving current. In this paper, a switching type PWM driving method is proposed to decrease the peak current. The peak driving current was half than before, and the method provided the system a more steady current.

A novel driving scheme applying high-frequency oscillating waveform to the data electrodes of the conventional PDP is proposed in this paper. More VUV is generated by the high-frequency waveform so that the luminance and luminous efficiency could be improved. Under experiments on an 8.5-inch panel, the luminance is improved and the luminous efficiency is enhanced more than 40%.

A novel PC-based automatic aging system (AAS) is presented to automatically age plasma display panel (PDP). The AAS has been built for Acer Display Technology, Inc., Taiwan. The experimental and practical tests give satisfactory results and illustrate that the PC-based aging system has been effective in reducing the available manpower as well as cost, and increasing the quality, efficiency, and repeatability of the aging job.

A novel driver is proposed to drive a plasma display panel (PDP) in the sustaining operation. The proposed circuit uses the parallel resonance between the inductor and the intrinsic capacitance of PDP to mainly recover the energy lost by the capacitive displacement current of PDP and the parasitic resonance.
