In Germany, support/counseling with regard to sexual health by social workers is still largely underdeveloped. In the United Kingdom, this is established as Sexual Health Advising (SHA) in the form of an interface management between psychosocial counseling services, the medical system and somatic care services. Based on the conceptual context, the historical development of social work in the German health care system, and the data on sexually transmitted infections (STI), the text examines the extent to which the British model – the development and content of which are presented – could also be useful in a German context and which structures could be integrated. Finally, the WIR – Walk In Ruhr, Center for Sexual Health and Medicine – will be presented and an outlook will be sketched, about the chances an implemented Sexual Health Advising system would open and which challenges would accompany it.
