Single oxygen (1O 2) generated in peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation parades great prospects in substituting common free radicals (∙OH/∙SO 4 −) for remediating wastewater. Unlike traditional modified approach, our study focused on optimizing partial atom orbital hybridization interaction with defects and altering charge transfer from catalysts to PMS, committed to pursue high selectivity of 1O 2 (non-radical activation). Herein, Co x Ni 3-x S 2 -V nanoparticles are synthesized in situ on nickel foams (NF) through a hydrothermal/Joule heating method and applied to PMS activation as immobilized catalysts. The result indicates that the Co 0.50 Ni 2.50 S 2 -V sample can totally activate PMS to mineralize ciprofloxacin with highest kinetic constant (0.2236 min−1) and excellent resistance to environment factors. Assisted by quantitative tests, singlet oxygen (1O 2) was verified as the dominant active species and the proportion of non-radical activation was increased to 86.91 %. Furthermore, theorical calculation revealed that this precise pathway regulation is attributed to the adsorption state adjustment and the reduction of Gibbs free energy for *O (transition state) and *1O 2 production. Our research provides novel insights into selective regulation of 1O 2 for efficient and sustainable wastewater remediation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Photo-Fenton process is recognized as an effective water treatment method due to its superior efficiency and technical feasibility. Herein, we constructed CdS/reduced graphene (rGO)/ZnFe 2 O 4 (ZFO) nanocomposite system for achieving efficient Photo-Fenton degradation of tetracycline (TC) under visible light irradiation in a green recycling system that hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2) can be produced in situ and activated to produce an active species. The optimum photoactivity and recyclability for CdS/rGO/ZFO nanocomposites can be obtained, which not only ascribed to the photo-Fenton synergistic effect of in-situ self-generated H 2 O 2 production of CdS/rGO, but also owing to the excellent magnetic recovery capacity and in-situ catalytic H 2 O 2 decomposition of OH from ZFO. This study provides new design ideas and application prospects for autarkic photo-Fenton advanced oxidation technology for environmental protection and efficient treatment of wastewater. • NDs/UiO-66-NH 2 was prepared by a two-step route consisting of solvothermal and calcination; • Formation of NDs/UiO-66-NH 2 heterojunction can enhance separation of photo-generated carriers; • NDs/UiO-66-NH 2 exhibits the outstanding photocatalytic degradation activity of antibiotics. Photocatalytic degradation of antibiotics is one of promising strategies to lessen environmental pollution and ecological damage. Pitifully, it is still challenging to achieve satisfactory photocatalytic degradation performance. Herein, nanodiamonds (NDs) coated on the surface of UiO-66-NH 2 octahedrons to form NDs/UiO-66-NH 2 heterojunction photocatalyst via a simple solvothermal method. The synthesized NDs/UiO-66-NH 2 composite photocatalysts possess decent antibiotic degradation performance under visible light irradiation. Among all the composites, 3% NDs/UiO-66-NH 2 composite exhibits the optimal degradation performance, which degraded more than 90% of TC pollutants within 120 min, 8.81 times higher than pristine UiO-66-NH 2. The high photocatalytic performance of NDs/UiO-66-NH 2 heterojunction is mainly attributed to the following three factors: (i) the introduction of NDs effectively increased the light absorption capacity of UiO-66-NH 2 ; (ii) the Construction of heterojunction enhanced the separation efficiency of photogenerated carriers over UiO-66-NH 2 ; (iii) The enriched functional groups of NDs could further promote the adsorption capacity of UiO-66-NH 2. Our work broadens the application of NDs for the construction and synthesis of high-performance and stable semiconductor composite photocatalysts with visible light response in the area of environmental restoration. • Bilayer electrospun nanomembrane (ENM) made of bead and bead-free nanofibers. • Bilayer ENM improved air filtration compared to monolayer of similar basis weight. • Alternate stacking of beads and bead-free fibers modified surface morphology of ENM. • Bilayer beaded ENM with specific stacking significantly reduced pressure drop. High pressure drop (air resistance) and bulky structure are the main challenges to address for a respirator filter. An electrospun nanofiber membrane (ENM) is an effective filter media which can be a solution to reduce the filter pressure drop and bulkiness. This paper investigated bilayer, beaded ENMs to prepare efficient lightweight respiratory filter media with less pressure drop. The focus is on producing a continuous bead on string nanostructure at small basis weight levels (0.5–2 g m−2). The filtration performance of the single and bilayer beaded ENMs was measured against particles of size 0.3–5 µm. The surface morphology of the ENMs was investigated using field emission scanning electron microscopy and capillary flow porometry. The thickness of ENM was measured by a contactless method using 3D laser scanning digital microscope. The presence of beads changed the thickness, packing density and pore characteristics of the ENMs consequently their filtration performance. Bilayer, beaded ENMs with specific stacking at 0.5 g m−2 showed better performance than the commercial P2 type respirator. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
