Falls and frailty status are often associated with a decline in physical capacity and multifactorial assessment is highly recommended. Based on the functional and biomechanical parameters measured during clinical tests with an accelerometer integrated into smart eyeglasses, the purpose was to characterize a population of older adults through an unsupervised analysis into different physical performance groups. A total of 84 participants (25 men and 59 women) over the age of sixty-five (age: 74.17 ± 5.80 years; height: 165.70 ± 8.22 cm; body mass: 68.93 ± 13.55 kg) performed a 30 s Sit-to-Stand test, a six-minute walking test (6MWT), and a 3 m Timed Up and Go (TUG) test. The acceleration data measured from the eyeglasses were processed to obtain six parameters: the number of Sit-to-Stands, the maximal vertical acceleration values during Sit-to-Stand movements, step duration and length, and the duration of the TUG test. The total walking distance covered during the 6MWT was also retained. After supervised analyses comparison (i.e., ANOVAs), only one of the parameters (i.e., step length) differed between faller groups and no parameters differed between frail and pre-frail participants. In contrast, unsupervised analysis (i.e., clustering algorithm based on K-means) categorized the population into three distinct physical performance groups (i.e., low, intermediate, and high). All the measured parameters discriminated the low- and high-performance groups. Four of the measured parameters differentiated the three groups. In addition, the low-performance group had a higher proportion of frail participants. Hand-gripping training is important for improving the fundamental functions of human physical activity. Bernstein's idea of "repetition without repetition" suggests that motor control function should be trained under changing states. The randomness level of load should be visualized for self-administered screening when repeating various training tasks under changing states. This study aims to develop a sensing methodology of random loads applied to both the agonist and antagonist skeletal muscles when performing physical tasks. We assumed that the time-variability and periodicity of the applied load appear in the time-series feature of muscle deformation data. In the experiment, 14 participants conducted the gripping tasks with a gripper, ball, balloon, Palm clenching, and paper. Crumpling pieces of paper (paper exercise) involves randomness because the resistance force of the paper changes depending on the shape and layers of the paper. Optical myography during gripping tasks was measured, and time-series features were analyzed. As a result, our system could detect the random movement of muscles during training. Low back pain (LBP) is a common issue that negatively affects a person's quality of life and imposes substantial healthcare expenses. In this study, we introduce the (Back-pain Movement) BackMov test, using inertial motion capture (MoCap) to assess lumbar movement changes in LBP patients. The test includes flexion–extension, rotation, and lateralization movements focused on the lumbar spine. To validate its reproducibility, we conducted a test-retest involving 37 healthy volunteers, yielding results to build a minimal detectable change (MDC) graph map that would allow us to see if changes in certain variables of LBP patients are significant in relation to their recovery. Subsequently, we evaluated its applicability by having 30 LBP patients perform the movement's test before and after treatment (15 received deep oscillation therapy; 15 underwent conventional therapy) and compared the outcomes with a specialist's evaluations. The test-retest results demonstrated high reproducibility, especially in variables such as range of motion, flexion and extension ranges, as well as velocities of lumbar movements, which stand as the more important variables that are correlated with LBP disability, thus changes in them may be important for patient recovery. Among the 30 patients, the specialist's evaluations were confirmed using a low-back-specific Short Form (SF)-36 Physical Functioning scale, and agreement was observed, in which all patients improved their well-being after both treatments. The results from the specialist analysis coincided with changes exceeding MDC values in the expected variables. In conclusion, the BackMov test offers sensitive variables for tracking mobility recovery from LBP, enabling objective assessments of improvement. Monitoring key physiological metrics, including heart rate and heart rate variability, has been shown to be of value in exercise science, disease management, and overall health. The purpose of this study was to investigate the diurnal variation of physiological responses and physical performances using digital biomarkers as a precise measurement tool during a walking football match (WFM) in higher-weight men. Nineteen males (mean age: 42.53 ± 12.18 years; BMI: 33.31 ± 4.31 kg·m−2) were engaged in a WFM at two different times of the day. Comprehensive evaluations of physiological parameters (e.g., cardiac autonomic function, lactate, glycemia, and oxygen saturation), along with physical performance, were assessed before, during, and after the match. Overall, there was a significant interaction (time of day x WFM) for mean blood pressure (MBP) (p = 0.007) and glycemia (p = 0.039). Glycemia decreased exclusively in the evening after WFM (p = 0.001), while mean blood pressure did not significantly change. Rating of perceived exertion was significantly higher in the evening than in the morning (p = 0.04), while the heart rate recovery after 1 min (HRR60s) of the match was lower in the evening than in the morning (p = 0.048). Overall, walking football practice seems to be safe, whatever the time of day. Furthermore, HRR60, glycemia, and (MBP) values were lower in the evening compared to the morning, suggesting that evening exercise practice could be safer for individuals with higher weight. Background: The aim of this systematic review with meta-analysis was to assess the effectiveness of non-immersive virtual reality (niVR) active videogames in patients who underwent cardiac rehabilitation (CR). Methods: A systematic review with meta-analysis, according to the PRISMA guidelines and previously registered in PROSPERO (CRD42023485240), was performed through a literature search in PubMed (Medline), SCOPUS, WOS, and PEDro since inception to 21 November 2023. We included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that assessed the effectiveness of an niVR intervention, in comparison with conventional CR and usual care, on aerobic capacity and cardiovascular endurance (physical function), anxiety, depression, and quality of life (QoL). The risk of bias in individual studies was assessed using the Cochrane risk of bias tool. Effect size was estimated using Cohen's standardized mean difference (SMD) and its 95% confidence interval (95% CI) in a random-effects model. Results: Nine RCT that met the inclusion criteria were included in the meta-analysis. The meta-analysis showed a moderate-to-large effect favoring niVR active videogames included in CR in increasing aerobic capacity and cardiovascular endurance (SMD = 0.74; 95% CI 0.11 to 1.37; p = 0.021) and reducing anxiety (SMD = −0.66; 95% CI −1.13 to −0.2; p = 0.006). Only 4.8% of patients reported adverse events while performing niVR active videogames. Conclusions: Inclusion of niVR active videogames in CR programs is more effective than conventional CR in improving aerobic capacity and cardiovascular endurance and in reducing anxiety. Beach handball is a fully developed sporting discipline on all five continents which has attracted the attention of researchers in the last decade, resulting in a proliferation of different studies focusing on players but not on referees. The main objective of this cross-sectional research was to determine the physical demands on elite male beach handball referees in four different competitions: U18 male; U18 female; senior male; and senior female. Twelve elite federated male referees (age: 30.86 ± 8 years; body height: 175.72 ± 4.51 cm; body weight: 80.18 ± 17.99 kg; fat percentage: 20.1 ± 4.41%; national or international experience) belonging to the Technical Committee of the Royal Spanish Handball Federation were recruited for this the study. The physical demands required of referees in official matches were measured by installing a GPS device. The sampling frequency used to record their speed and distance was 15 Hz. A triaxial accelerometer (100 Hz) was used to determine their acceleration. An analysis of variance (ANOVA) between competitions with post hoc comparisons using the Bonferroni adjustment was used to compare among categories. A higher distance covered in zone 1 and speeds of 0 to 6 km-h−1 were recorded. Most accelerations and decelerations occurred in zones 0 and 1 (zone 0: 0 to 1 m·s−2; zone 1: 1 to 2 m·s−2). The lack of differences (p > 0.05) between most analysed variables suggest quite similar physical demands of the four analysed competitions. Over recent decades, wearable inertial sensors have become popular means to quantify physical activity and mobility. However, research assessing measurement accuracy and precision is required, especially before using device-based measures as outcomes in trials. The GT9X Link is a recent activity monitor available from ActiGraph, recognized as a "gold standard" and previously used as a criterion measure to assess the validity of various consumer-based activity monitors. However, the validity of the ActiGraph GT9X Link is not fully elucidated. A systematic review was undertaken to synthesize the current evidence for the criterion validity of the ActiGraph GT9X Link in measuring steps and energy expenditure. This review followed the PRISMA guidelines and eight studies were included with a combined sample size of 558 participants. We found that (1) the ActiGraph GT9X Link generally underestimates steps; (2) the validity and accuracy of the device in measuring steps seem to be influenced by gait speed, device placement, filtering process, and monitoring conditions; and (3) there is a lack of evidence regarding the accuracy of step counting in free-living conditions and regarding energy expenditure estimation. Given the limited number of included studies and their heterogeneity, the present review emphasizes the need for further validation studies of the ActiGraph GT9X Link in various populations and in both controlled and free-living settings. This cross-sectional study, conducted at a tertiary care hospital's rehabilitation clinic, aimed to validate Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB) results obtained through plantar pressure analysis using commercial smart insoles (SPPB-SI) and to compare these results to manually acquired results by an experienced examiner (SPPB-M). This study included 40 independent-walking inpatients and outpatients aged 50 or older. SPPB-SI and SPPB-M were administered concurrently, with the smart insoles providing plantar pressure data that were converted into time–pressure curves. Two interpreters assessed the curves, determining component completion times for the SPPB-SI scores. Among the 40 participants (mean age: 72.98, SD: 9.27), the mean total SPPB-SI score was 7.72 ± 2.50, and the mean total SPPB-M score was 7.95 ± 2.63. The time recordings and measured scores of each SPPB-SI component exhibited high reliability with inter- and intra-interpreter correlation coefficients of 0.9 and 0.8 or higher, respectively. The intraclass correlation coefficient between the total SPPB-SI and SPPB-M scores was 0.831 (p < 0.001), and that between the component scores of the two measurements ranged from 0.837 to 0.901 (p < 0.001). Consistent correlations with geriatric functional parameters were observed for both SPPB-SI and SPPB-M. Digital devices have gained popularity in the last 10 years as a tool for exercise prescription, the monitoring of daily physical activity, and nutrition for the management of a health-related parameter. Therefore, the aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness of the use of digital devices to monitor exercise data in sedentary persons with HIV who exercise following an individualized activity pacing (AP) protocol on cardiorespiratory fitness body composition, blood lipid profile, and psychological parameters. Twenty-four PLWH were enrolled in an 18-week randomized, open-label, pilot AP exercise protocol. All participants were monitored by a Health Band connected to a mobile app that transmitted the data to a server. At week 3, they were randomized either in an experimental group (EG), in which an open device configuration enabled them to receive training data feedback (n = 12), or continued with no data feedback (control group, n = 12). The primary endpoint was improvement from the baseline of 15% of steady-state oxygen consumption ( V ˙ O2) during a 6-min walking test. Technical issues occurred when pairing the health band with the app, which prevented EG participants from regularly receiving data feedback, and with data transmission to the server, which enabled only 40% monitoring of the total training days. Consequently, the study outcomes could not be compared between the two groups, and participants also lost confidence in the study. However, 19 out of 24 participants completed the AP program. Overall, only 6 (32%) improved steady-state V ˙ O2, with no significant changes at W18 from the baseline. Significant reductions were observed of BMI (p = 0.040), hip circumference (p = 0.027), and total-(p = 0.049) and HDL-cholesterol (p = 0.045). The failure of digital device performance substantially affected study procedures, monitoring, and participants' engagement, and likely limited the potential benefits of the AP exercise program. Accurate and reliable measurement of real-world walking activity is clinically relevant, particularly for people with mobility difficulties. Insights on walking can help understand mobility function, disease progression, and fall risks. People living in long-term residential care environments have heterogeneous and often pathological walking patterns, making it difficult for conventional algorithms paired with wearable sensors to detect their walking activity. We designed two walking bout detection algorithms for people living in long-term residential care. Both algorithms used thresholds on the magnitude of acceleration from a 3-axis accelerometer on the lower back to classify data as "walking" or "non-walking". One algorithm had generic thresholds, whereas the other used personalized thresholds. To validate and evaluate the algorithms, we compared the classifications of walking/non-walking from our algorithms to the real-time research assistant annotated labels and the classification output from an algorithm validated on a healthy population. Both the generic and personalized algorithms had acceptable accuracy (0.83 and 0.82, respectively). The personalized algorithm showed the highest specificity (0.84) of all tested algorithms, meaning it was the best suited to determine input data for gait characteristic extraction. The aim of this study is to analyze the worst-case scenarios of professional futsal referees during the first and second half of official matches in the Spanish Futsal Cup using a Local Positioning System (LPS) for monitoring their movement patterns. Eight professional futsal referees (40 ± 3.43 years; 1.80 ± 0.03 m; 72.84 ± 4.01 kg) participated in the study. The external load (total distance, high-speed running distance and efforts, sprint distance and efforts, and accelerations and decelerations distances) of the referees was monitored and collected using an LPS. The results revealed significant differences in the worst-case scenarios of the futsal referees during the match according to the time window analyzed (p < 0.05). The longest time windows (120 s, 180 s, and 300 s) showed lower relative total distances in the worst-case scenarios (p < 0.05). The high-speed running distances were significatively higher in the first half for the 120 s (+2.65 m·min−1; ES: 1.25), 180 s (+1.55 m·min−1; ES: 1.28), and 300 s (+0.95 m·min−1; ES: 1.14) time windows (p < 0.05). No differences were found between the first and second half for the high-intensity deceleration distance (p > 0.05). Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a progressive respiratory disease that, due to dyspnea, decreases patients' physical function and quality of life. The aim of the research was to evaluate the effectiveness of water-based exercise (WE) in improving functional capacity and respiratory muscle strength in patients with COPD. It consisted of a systematic review and meta-analysis of eight randomized clinical trials (RCTs) from the last 10 years, found in PubMed, PEDro, Scopus and Web of Science databases. Methodological quality was analyzed using the PEDro scale and the Cochrane Collaboration Risk of Bias Tool. Regarding the evaluation of functional capacity, mainly assessed were lung function, respiratory muscle strength, and maximal or aerobic exercise. The results showed that WE improves functional capacity compared to a non-exercising control group (SMD: 73.42; IC 95%: 40.40 to 106.45; I2: 0%). There are no statistically significant differences between a WE treatment and a land exercise (LE) treatment (p = 0.24) in functional capacity, nor with respect to respiratory muscle strength (p = 0.97). These data should be interpreted with caution, as more RCTs with aquatic intervention in COPD patients are needed to elucidate whether there are differences between WE or LE according to patient characteristics and comorbidities. Enhancing recovery is a fundamental component of high-performance sports training since it enables practitioners to potentiate physical performance and minimise the risk of injuries. Using a new sports legging embedded with an intelligent system for electrostimulation, localised heating and compression (completely embodied into the textile structures), we aimed to analyse acute recovery following a fatigue protocol. Surface electromyography- and torque-related variables were recorded on eight recreational athletes. A fatigue protocol conducted in an isokinetic dynamometer allowed us to examine isometric torque and consequent post-exercise acute recovery after using the sports legging. Regarding peak torque, no differences were found between post-fatigue and post-recovery assessments in any variable; however, pre-fatigue registered a 16% greater peak torque when compared with post-fatigue for localised heating and compression recovery methods. Our data are supported by recent meta-analyses indicating that individual recovery methods, such as localised heating, electrostimulation and compression, are not effective to recover from a fatiguing exercise. Blockchain-based applications necessitate the authentication of connected devices if they are employed as blockchain oracles. Alongside identity authentication, it is crucial to ensure resistance against tampering, including safeguarding against unauthorized alterations and protection against device counterfeiting or cloning. However, attaining these functionalities becomes more challenging when dealing with resource-constrained devices like low-cost IoT devices. The resources of IoT devices depend on the capabilities of the microcontroller they are built around. Low-cost devices utilize microcontrollers with limited computational power, small memory capacity, and lack advanced features such as a dedicated secure cryptographic chip. This paper proposes a method employing a Physical Unclonable Function (PUF) to authenticate identity and tamper resistance in IoT devices. The suggested PUF relies on a microcontroller's internal pull-up resistor values and, in conjunction with the microcontroller's built-in analog comparator, can also be utilized for device self-checking. A main contribution of this paper is the proposed PUF method which calculates the PUF value as the average value of many single PUF measurements, resulting in a significant increase in accuracy. The proposed PUF has been implemented successfully in a low-cost microcontroller device. Test results demonstrate that the device, specifically the microcontroller chip, can be identified with high accuracy (99.98%), and the proposed PUF method exhibits resistance against probing attempts. Falls in older people are a major health concern as the leading cause of disability and the second most common cause of accidental death. We developed a rapid fall risk assessment based on a combination of physical performance measurements made with an inertial sensor embedded in a smartphone. This study aimed to evaluate and validate the reliability and accuracy of an easy-to-use smartphone fall risk assessment by comparing it with the Physiological Profile Assessment (PPA) results. Sixty-five participants older than 55 performed a variation of the Timed Up and Go test using smartphone sensors. Balance and gait parameters were calculated, and their reliability was assessed by the (ICC) and compared with the PPAs. Since the PPA allows classification into six levels of fall risk, the data obtained from the smartphone assessment were categorised into six equivalent levels using different parametric and nonparametric classifier models with neural networks. The F1 score and geometric mean of each model were also calculated. All selected parameters showed ICCs around 0.9. The best classifier, in terms of accuracy, was the nonparametric mixed input data model with a 100% success rate in the classification category. In conclusion, fall risk can be reliably assessed using a simple, fast smartphone protocol that allows accurate fall risk classification among older people and can be a useful screening tool in clinical settings. Measures of physical performance captured within a clinical setting are commonly used as a surrogate for underlying health or disease risk within an individual. By measuring physical behaviour within a free-living setting, we may be able to better quantify physical performance. In our study, we outline an approach to measure maximum free-living step count using a body-worn sensor as an indicator of physical performance. We then use this approach to characterise the maximum step count over a range of window durations within a population of older adults to identify a preferred duration over which to measure the maximum step count. We found that while almost all individuals (97%) undertook at least one instance of continuous stepping longer than two minutes, a sizeable minority of individuals (31%) had no periods of continuous stepping longer than six minutes. We suggest that the maximum step count measured over a six-minute period may be too sensitive to the adults' lack of opportunity to undertake prolonged periods of stepping, and a two-minute window could provide a more representative measure of physical performance. Gait quality parameters have been used to measure recovery from total hip arthroplasty (THA) but are time-intensive and previously could only be performed in a lab. Smartphone sensor data and algorithmic advances presently allow for the passive collection of qualitative gait metrics. The purpose of this prospective study was to observe the recovery of physical function following THA by assessing passively collected pre- and post-operative gait quality metrics. This was a multicenter, prospective cohort study. From six weeks pre-operative through to a minimum 24 weeks post-operative, 612 patients used a digital care management application that collected gait metrics. Average weekly walking speed, step length, timing asymmetry, and double limb support percentage pre- and post-operative values were compared with a paired-sample t-test. Recovery was defined as the post-operative week when the respective gait metric was no longer statistically inferior to the pre-operative value. To control for multiple comparison error, significance was set at p < 0.002. Walking speeds and step length were lowest, and timing asymmetry and double support percentage were greatest at week two post-post-operative (p < 0.001). Walking speed (1.00 ± 0.14 m/s, p = 0.04), step length (0.58 ± 0.06 m/s, p = 0.02), asymmetry (14.5 ± 19.4%, p = 0.046), and double support percentage (31.6 ± 1.5%, p = 0.0089) recovered at 9, 8, 7, and 10 weeks post-operative, respectively. Walking speed, step length, asymmetry, and double support all recovered beyond pre-operative values at 13, 17, 10, and 18 weeks, respectively (p < 0.002). Functional recovery following THA can be measured via passively collected gait quality metrics using a digital care management platform. The data suggest that metrics of gait quality are most negatively affected two weeks post-operative; recovery to pre-operative levels occurs at approximately 10 weeks following primary THA, and follows a slower trajectory compared to previously reported step count recovery trajectories. The security of web applications in an enterprise is of paramount importance. To strengthen the security of applications, the identification and mitigation of vulnerabilities through appropriate countermeasures becomes imperative. The Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP) Top 10 API Security Risks, 2023 Edition, indicates the prominent vulnerabilities of API security risks. Broken authentication, however, is placed in second position with level-3 exploitability, level-2 prevalence, level-3 detectability, and level-3 technical impact. To mitigate this vulnerability, many mitigation strategies have been proposed by using the cryptographic primitives wherein two techniques, namely hashing and PUF, are used. Some of the proposals have integrated the concepts of hashing and PUF. However, the unnecessarily lengthy and complex mathematics used in these proposals makes them unsuitable for current API-based application scenarios. Therefore, in this paper, the authors propose a privacy-preserving authentication protocol that incorporates the capability of both mechanisms in an easy and low-complexity manner. In addition to overcoming existing limitations, the proposed protocol is tested to provide more security properties over existing schemes. Analysis of their performance has demonstrated that the proposed solutions are secure, efficient, practical, and effective for API-based web applications in an enterprise environment. The assessment of muscle mass and physical performance is essential for the diagnosis of sarcopenia. This study examined the validity of bioimpedance analysis (BIA) and a sensor-based short physical performance battery (SPPB) device for analyzing appendicular skeletal muscle mass (ASM) and physical performance. Forty-one older adults were measured for ASM and physical performance with two BIA devices (InBody770 vs. T-SCAN PLUS III) and two SPPB devices (manual mSPPB vs. sensor-based sSPPB). Validity statistics included the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and Bland–Altman plots to examine the agreement of data from the BIA (InBody770 vs. T-SCAN PLUS III) and the SPPBs (mSPPB vs. sSPPB). There was a significant ICC for skeletal muscle mass between the T-SCAN PLUS III and InBody770 devices (ICC = 0.8822; p < 0.0001). The mSPPB and sSPPB values showed agreement across all components: 0.8654 for the total scores, 0.8879 for the walking speed, 0.8889 for the chair stand, and 0.6863 for the standing balance. No systemic bias was observed between the two methods for the BIA and SPPB devices. Measurements using the T-SCAN PLUS III and sSPPB seem to be highly correlated with the InBody770 and mSPPB devices in older adults and may be valid for assessing muscle mass and physical performance. Wearable computing has garnered a lot of attention due to its various advantages, including automatic recognition and categorization of human actions from sensor data. However, wearable computing environments can be fragile to cyber security attacks since adversaries attempt to block, delete, or intercept the exchanged information via insecure communication channels. In addition to cyber security attacks, wearable sensor devices cannot resist physical threats since they are batched in unattended circumstances. Furthermore, existing schemes are not suited for resource-constrained wearable sensor devices with regard to communication and computational costs and are inefficient regarding the verification of multiple sensor devices simultaneously. Thus, we designed an efficient and robust authentication and group–proof scheme using physical unclonable functions (PUFs) for wearable computing, denoted as AGPS-PUFs, to provide high-security and cost-effective efficiency compared to the previous schemes. We evaluated the security of the AGPS-PUF using a formal security analysis, including the ROR Oracle model and AVISPA. We carried out the testbed experiments using MIRACL on Raspberry PI4 and then presented a comparative analysis of the performance between the AGPS-PUF scheme and the previous schemes. We introduce a technique to generate and read the digital signature of the networks, channels, and optical devices that possess the fiber-optic pigtails to enhance physical layer security (PLS). Attributing a signature to the networks or devices eases the identification and authentication of networks and systems thus reducing their vulnerability to physical and digital attacks. The signatures are generated using an optical physical unclonable function (OPUF). Considering that OPUFs are established as the most potent anti-counterfeiting tool, the created signatures are robust against malicious attacks such as tampering and cyber attacks. We investigate Rayleigh backscattering signal (RBS) as a strong OPUF to generate reliable signatures. Contrary to other OPUFs that must be fabricated, the RBS-based OPUF is an inherent feature of fibers and can be easily obtained using optical frequency domain reflectometry (OFDR). We evaluate the security of the generated signatures in terms of their robustness against prediction and cloning. We demonstrate the robustness of signatures against digital and physical attacks confirming the unpredictability and unclonability features of the generated signatures. We explore signature cyber security by considering the random structure of the produced signatures. To demonstrate signature reproducibility through repeated measurements, we simulate the signature of a system by adding a random Gaussian white noise to the signal. Measures of stepping volume and rate are common outputs from wearable devices, such as accelerometers. It has been proposed that biomedical technologies, including accelerometers and their algorithms, should undergo rigorous verification as well as analytical and clinical validation to demonstrate that they are fit for purpose. The aim of this study was to use the V3 framework to assess the analytical and clinical validity of a wrist-worn measurement system of stepping volume and rate, formed by the GENEActiv accelerometer and GENEAcount step counting algorithm. The analytical validity was assessed by measuring the level of agreement between the wrist-worn system and a thigh-worn system (activPAL), the reference measure. The clinical validity was assessed by establishing the prospective association between the changes in stepping volume and rate with changes in physical function (SPPB score). The agreement of the thigh-worn reference system and the wrist-worn system was excellent for total daily steps (CCC = 0.88, 95% CI 0.83–0.91) and moderate for walking steps and faster-paced walking steps (CCC = 0.61, 95% CI 0.53–0.68 and 0.55, 95% CI 0.46–0.64, respectively). A higher number of total steps and faster paced-walking steps was consistently associated with better physical function. After 24 months, an increase of 1000 daily faster-paced walking steps was associated with a clinically meaningful increase in physical function (0.53 SPPB score, 95% CI 0.32–0.74). We have validated a digital susceptibility/risk biomarker—pfSTEP—that identifies an associated risk of low physical function in community-dwelling older adults using a wrist-worn accelerometer and its accompanying open-source step counting algorithm. In the process of producing winding coils for power transformers, it is necessary to detect the tilt angle of the winding, which is one of the important parameters that affects the physical performance indicators of the transformer. The current detection method is manual measurement using a contact angle ruler, which is not only time-consuming but also has large errors. To solve this problem, this paper adopts a contactless measurement method based on machine vision technology. Firstly, this method uses a camera to take pictures of the winding image and performs a 0° correction and preprocessing on the image, using the OTSU method for binarization. An image self-segmentation and splicing method is proposed to obtain a single-wire image and perform skeleton extraction. Secondly, this paper compares three angle detection methods: the improved interval rotation projection method, quadratic iterative least squares method, and Hough transform method and through experimental analysis, compares their accuracy and operating speed. The experimental results show that the Hough transform method has the fastest operating speed and can complete detection in an average of only 0.1 s, while the interval rotation projection method has the highest accuracy, with a maximum error of less than 0.15°. In this paper, a Janus metastructure sensor (JMS) based on the photonic spin Hall effect (PSHE), which can detect multiple physical quantities, is proposed. The Janus property is derived from the fact that the asymmetric arrangement of different dielectrics breaks the structure parity. Hence, the metastructure is endowed with different detection performances for physical quantities on multiple scales, broadening the range and improving the accuracy of the detection. When electromagnetic waves (EWs) are incident from the forward scale of the JMS, the refractive index, thickness, and incidence angle can be detected by locking the angle corresponding to the PSHE displacement peak that is enhanced by the graphene. The relevant detection ranges are 2~2.4, 2~2.35 μm, and 27°~47°, with sensitivities (S) of 81.35°/RIU, 64.84°/μm, and 0.02238 THz/°, respectively. Under the condition that EWs incident into the JMS from the backward direction, the JMS can also detect the same physical quantities with different sensing properties, such as S of 99.3°/RIU, 70.07°/μm, and 0.02348 THz/° in corresponding detection ranges of 2~2.09, 1.85~2.02 μm, and 20°~40°. Modern cryptography attributes the security of a cryptographic system to the security of the key. How to securely distribute the key has always been a bottleneck in key management. This paper proposes a secure group key agreement scheme for multiple parties using a multiple twinning superlattice physical unclonable function (PUF) that can be synchronized. By sharing the challenge and helper data among multiple twinning superlattice PUF holders, the scheme employs a reusable fuzzy extractor to obtain the key locally. Moreover, adopting public-key encryption encrypts public data for establishing the subgroup key, which provides independent communication for the subgroup. At the same time, when the subgroup membership changes, the public key encrypts new public data to update the subgroup key, forming scalable group communication. This paper also presents a cost and formal security analysis, which shows that the proposed scheme can achieve computational security by applying the key obtained by the computationally secure reusable fuzzy extractor to the EAV-secure symmetric-key encryption, which has indistinguishable encryption in the presence of an eavesdropper. The proliferation of devices for the Internet of Things (IoT) and their implication in many activities of our lives have led to a considerable increase in concern about the security of these devices, posing a double challenge for designers and developers of products. On the one hand, the design of new security primitives, suitable for resource-limited devices, can facilitate the inclusion of mechanisms and protocols to ensure the integrity and privacy of the data exchanged over the Internet. On the other hand, the development of techniques and tools to evaluate the quality of the proposed solutions as a step prior to their deployment, as well as to monitor their behavior once in operation against possible changes in operating conditions arising naturally or as a consequence of a stress situation forced by an attacker. To address these challenges, this paper first describes the design of a security primitive that plays an important role as a component of a hardware-based root of trust, as it can act as a source of entropy for True Random Number Generation (TRNG) or as a Physical Unclonable Function (PUF) to facilitate the generation of identifiers linked to the device on which it is implemented. The work also illustrates different software components that allow carrying out a self-assessment strategy to characterize and validate the performance of this primitive in its dual functionality, as well as to monitor possible changes in security levels that may occur during operation as a result of device aging and variations in power supply or operating temperature. The designed PUF/TRNG is provided as a configurable IP module, which takes advantage of the internal architecture of the Xilinx Series-7 and Zynq-7000 programmable devices and incorporates an AXI4-based standard interface to facilitate its interaction with soft- and hard-core processing systems. Several test systems that contain different instances of the IP have been implemented and subjected to an exhaustive set of on-line tests to obtain the metrics that determine its quality in terms of uniqueness, reliability, and entropy characteristics. The results obtained prove that the proposed module is a suitable candidate for various security applications. As an example, an implementation that uses less than 5% of the resources of a low-cost programmable device is capable of obfuscating and recovering 512-bit cryptographic keys with virtually zero error rate. Health equipment are used to keep track of significant health indicators, automate health interventions, and analyze health indicators. People have begun using mobile applications to track health characteristics and medical demands because devices are now linked to high-speed internet and mobile phones. Such a combination of smart devices, the internet, and mobile applications expands the usage of remote health monitoring through the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT). The accessibility and unpredictable aspects of IoMT create massive security and confidentiality threats in IoMT systems. In this paper, Octopus and Physically Unclonable Functions (PUFs) are used to provide privacy to the healthcare device by masking the data, and machine learning (ML) techniques are used to retrieve the health data back and reduce security breaches on networks. The importance of physical activity has been widely demonstrated both in clinics and in sports. One of the new frontier training programs is high-intensity functional training (HIFT). The immediate effects of HIFT on the psychomotor and cognitive performance of well-trained people are still not clear. This paper aims to evaluate the immediate effects induced by HIFT on blood lactate levels, physical performance in terms of body stability and jump ability, and cognitive performance in terms of reaction time. Nineteen well-trained participants were enrolled in the experimental studies and asked to execute six repetitions of a circuit training. Data were gathered both in a pre-training session and after each one of the circuit repetitions. An immediate significant increase with respect to the baseline was observed during the first repetition, with a further increase after the third one. No effects on jump ability were found, whereas a deterioration in body stability was found. Positive immediate effects on cognitive performance in terms of accuracy and speed in task execution were assessed. Physical Unclonable Functions (PUFs) are considered attractive low-cost security anchors in the key generation scheme. The helper data algorithm is usually used to transform the fuzzy responses extracted from PUF into a reproducible key. The generated key can be used to encrypt secret data in traditional security schemes. In contrast, this work shows that the fuzzy responses of both weak and strong PUFs can be used to secretly store the important data (e.g., the distributed keys) directly by an error-tolerant algorithm, Fuzzy Vault, without the traditional encryption algorithm and helper data scheme. The locking and unlocking methods of our proposal are designed to leverage the feature of weak and strong PUFs relatively. For the strong PUFs, our proposal is a new train of thought about how to leverage the advantage of strong PUFs (exponential number of challenge–response pairs) when used in the field. The evaluation was performed on existing weak PUF and strong PUF designs. The unlocking rate and runtime are tested under different parameters and environments. The test results demonstrate that our proposal can reach a 100% unlocking rate by parameter adjustment with less than 1 second of locking time and a few seconds of unlocking time. Background: For older adults with severe aortic stenosis (AS) undergoing aortic valve replacement (AVR), recovery of physical function is important, yet few studies objectively measure it in real-world environments. This exploratory study explored the acceptability and feasibility of using wearable trackers to measure incidental physical activity (PA) in AS patients before and after AVR. Methods: Fifteen adults with severe AS wore an activity tracker at baseline, and ten at one month follow-up. Functional capacity (six-minute walk test, 6MWT) and HRQoL (SF 12) were also assessed. Results: At baseline, AS participants (n = 15, 53.3% female, mean age 82.3 ± 7.0 years) wore the tracker for four consecutive days more than 85% of the total prescribed time, this improved at follow-up. Before AVR, participants demonstrated a wide range of incidental PA (step count median 3437 per day), and functional capacity (6MWT median 272 m). Post-AVR, participants with the lowest incidental PA, functional capacity, and HRQoL at baseline had the greatest improvements within each measure; however, improvements in one measure did not translate to improvements in another. Conclusion: The majority of older AS participants wore the activity trackers for the required time period before and after AVR, and the data attained were useful for understanding AS patients' physical function. Vehicular visible light communications (VLC) are considered a suitable technology for vehicular platooning applications. Nevertheless, this domain imposes strict performance requirements. Although numerous works have shown that VLC technology is compatible with platooning applications, existing studies are mainly focused on the physical layer performances, mostly ignoring the disruptive effects generated by neighboring vehicular VLC links. Nevertheless, the 5.9 GHz Dedicated Short Range Communications (DSRC) experience has shown that mutual interference can significantly affect the packed delivery ratio, pointing out that these effects should be analyzed for vehicular VLC networks as well. In this context, this article provides a comprehensive investigation focused on the effects of mutual interference generated by neighboring vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) VLC links. Therefore, this work provides an intensive analytical investigation based on simulation and also on experimental results that demonstrate that although ignored, the influence of mutual interference is highly disruptive in vehicular VLC applications. Hence, it has been shown that without preventive measures, the Packet Delivery Ratio (PDR) can decrease below the imposed 90% limit for almost the entire service area. The results have also shown that although less aggressive, multi-user interference affects V2V links even in short-distance conditions. Activity monitoring combined with machine learning (ML) methods can contribute to detailed knowledge about daily physical behavior in older adults. The current study (1) evaluated the performance of an existing activity type recognition ML model (HARTH), based on data from healthy young adults, for classifying daily physical behavior in fit-to-frail older adults, (2) compared the performance with a ML model (HAR70+) that included training data from older adults, and (3) evaluated the ML models on older adults with and without walking aids. Eighteen older adults aged 70–95 years who ranged widely in physical function, including usage of walking aids, were equipped with a chest-mounted camera and two accelerometers during a semi-structured free-living protocol. Labeled accelerometer data from video analysis was used as ground truth for the classification of walking, standing, sitting, and lying identified by the ML models. Overall accuracy was high for both the HARTH model (91%) and the HAR70+ model (94%). The performance was lower for those using walking aids in both models, however, the overall accuracy improved from 87% to 93% in the HAR70+ model. The increasing geriatric population across the world has necessitated the early detection of frailty through the analysis of daily-life behavioral patterns. This paper presents a system for ambient, automatic, and the continuous measurement and analysis of ascent and descent motions and long-term handrail-use behaviors of participants in their homes using an RGB-D camera. The system automatically stores information regarding the environment and three-dimensional skeletal coordinates of the participant only when they appear within the camera's angle of view. Daily stair ascent and descent motions were measured in two houses: one house with two participants in their 20s and two in their 50s, and another with two participants in their 70s. The recorded behaviors were analyzed in terms of the stair ascent/descent speed, handrail grasping points, and frequency determined using the decision tree algorithm. The participants in their 70s exhibited a decreased stair ascent/descent speed compared to other participants; those in their 50s and 70s exhibited increased handrail usage area and frequency. The outcomes of the study indicate the system's ability to accurately detect a decline in physical function through the continuous measurement of daily stair ascent and descent motions. The sit-to-stand (STS) motion evaluates physical functions in frail older adults. Mounting sensors or using a camera is necessary to measure trunk movement during STS motion. Therefore, we developed a simple measurement method by embedding laser range finders in the backrests and seats of chairs that can be used in daily life situations. The objective of this study was to validate the performance of the proposed measurement method in comparison with that of the optical motion capture (MoCap) system during STS motion. The STS motions of three healthy young adults were simultaneously measured under seven conditions using a chair with embedded sensors and the optical MoCap system. We evaluated the waveform similarity, absolute error, and relationship of the trunk joint angular excursions between these measurement methods. The experimental results indicated high waveform similarity in the trunk flexion phase regardless of STS conditions. Furthermore, a strong relationship was observed between the two measurement methods with respect to the angular excursion of the trunk flexion. Although the angular excursion of the trunk extension exhibited a large error, the developed chair with embedded sensors evaluated trunk flexion during the STS motion, which is a characteristic of frail older adults. Standing up from a seated position is a prerequisite for any kind of physical mobility but many older persons have problems with the sit-to-stand (STS) transfer. There are several exosuits available for industrial work, which might be adapted to the needs of older persons to support STS transfers. However, objective measures to quantify and evaluate such systems are needed. The aim of this study was to quantify the possible support of an exosuit during the STS transfer of geriatric patients. Twenty-one geriatric patients with a median age of 82 years (1.–3.Q. 79–84 years) stood up at a normal pace (1) from a chair without using armrests, (2) with using armrests and (3) from a bed with pushing off, each condition with and without wearing an exosuit. Peak angular velocity of the thighs was measured by body-worn sensors. It was higher when standing up with exosuit support from a bed (92.6 (1.–3.Q. 84.3–116.2)°/s versus 79.7 (1.–3.Q. 74.6–98.2)°/s; p = 0.014) and from a chair with armrests (92.9 (1.–3.Q. 78.3–113.0)°/s versus 77.8 (1.–3.Q. 59.3–100.7)°/s; p = 0.089) compared to no support. There was no effect of the exosuit when standing up from a chair without using armrests. In general, it was possible to quantify the support of the exosuit using sensor-measured peak angular velocity. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the tactical and physical performance during official matches of a women's soccer league and to correlate both dimensions in periods of 15 min. To do this, eight official matches of a semi-professional soccer team belonging to the Women's Second Division of Spain (Reto Iberdrola) were analysed during the 2020–2021 season. The variables recorded were classified into two dimensions: tactical variables (i.e., Width, Length, Height and Surface Area) and physical variables (i.e., Total Distance Covered (TD), Total Distance Covered in High-Speed Running (HSR) and Total Distance Covered in Sprint). The main results were: (1) there were no differences between the periods in any of the tactical dimension variables; (2) in the physical dimension, a significant decrease in TD and HSR was described at the end of the match (period 60–75); and (3) some positive correlations were found among some variables of the tactical and physical dimension at the beginning and at the end of the match (periods 0–15, 60–75 and 75–90). The findings of the study suggest that connecting the tactical and physical dimension in the interpretation of team performance would allow for a better understanding of player and team performance and during competition. This study examined the influence of player position and match quarter on activity profiles during the phases of play in Australian Football. Global positioning satellite data was collected for one season from an Australian Football League team for nomadic, key position and ruck players (age: 24.8 ± 4.2 years, body mass: 88.3 ± 8.7 kg, height: 1.88 ± 0.8 m). Separate linear mixed models and effect sizes were used to analyse differences between positions and game quarter within each phase of play for values of distance, speed and metabolic power indices. There were clear differences between positions for low-speed running, high-speed running, total distance and average speed. Nomadic players generally recorded the highest match running outputs, followed by key position players and ruckmen. Within each position, offence and defence involved the highest intensities, followed by contested play and then stoppage periods. Across the four quarters, there were small to large reductions in average speed, high-speed running, high power and energy expenditure during offence, defence and contested play, but not during stoppages. Accordingly, conditioning staff should consider the intermittent intensities of the phases of match-play for each position to optimally prepare players for competition. Mobility is the primary indicator of quality of life among older adults. Physical capacity (PC) and physical activity (PA) are two determinants of mobility; however, PC and PA are complex constructs represented by numerous parameters. This research sought to identify the optimal parameters that may be used to represent PC and PA of older adults, while exploring the interrelationship of these two constructs. Participants were 76 community-dwelling older adults (M age = 74.05 ± 5.15 yrs.). The McRoberts MoveTest was used to objectively measure PC in the laboratory with the following tests: the Short Physical Performance Battery, the Sway test, Sit to Stands, and the Timed Up and Go. PA was then measured at home for one week using the McRoberts USB Dynaport. Correlation analyses resulted in 55% and 65% reductions of PC and PA parameters, respectively. Clustering identified five representative PC parameters and five representative PA parameters. Canonical correlation analysis identified a non-significant correlation between the two sets of parameters. A novel approach was used to define PC and PA by systematically reducing these constructs into representative parameters that provide clinically relevant information, suggesting that they are an accurate representation of one's PC and PA. A non-significant correlation between PC and PA suggests that there is no relationship between the two in this sample of community-dwelling older adults. The smart home is a crucial embodiment of the internet of things (IoT), which can facilitate users to access smart home services anytime and anywhere. Due to the limited resources of cloud computing, it cannot meet users' real-time needs. Therefore, edge computing emerges as the times require, providing users with better real-time access and storage. The application of edge computing in the smart home environment can enable users to enjoy smart home services. However, users and smart devices communicate through public channels, and malicious attackers may intercept information transmitted through public channels, resulting in user privacy disclosure. Therefore, it is a critical issue to protect the secure communication between users and smart devices in the smart home environment. Furthermore, authentication protocols in smart home environments also have some security challenges. In this paper, we propose an anonymous authentication protocol that applies edge computing to the smart home environment to protect communication security between entities. To protect the security of smart devices, we embed physical unclonable functions (PUF) into each smart device. Real-or-random model, informal security analysis, and ProVerif are adopted to verify the security of our protocol. Finally, we compare our protocol with existing protocols regarding security and performance. The comparison results demonstrate that our protocol has higher security and slightly better performance. To build a reliable security shield, the challenges encountered must be embraced. Therefore, this survey paper is primarily aimed to assist researchers by classifying attacks/vulnerabilities based on objects. The method of attacks and relevant countermeasures are provided for each kind of attack in this work. Case studies of the most important applications of the IoT are highlighted concerning security solutions. The survey of security solutions is not limited to traditional secret key-based cryptographic solutions, moreover physical unclonable functions (PUF)-based solutions and blockchain are illustrated. A gas path analysis approach of dynamic modelling was used to examine the gas turbine performance. This study presents an investigation of the effect of physical faults on the performance of a three-shaft gas turbine at full-load and part-load operation. A nonlinear steady state performance model was developed and validated. The datasheet from the engine manufacturer was used to gather the input and validation data. Some engineering judgement and optimization were used. Following validation of the engine performance model with the engine manufacturer data using physical fault and component health parameter relationships, physical faults were implanted into the performance model to evaluate the performance characteristics of the gas turbine at degradation state at full- and part-load operation. The impact of erosion and fouling on the gas turbine output parameters, component measurement parameters, and the impact of degraded components on another primary component of the engine have been investigated. The simulation results show that the deviation in the output parameters and component isentropic efficiency due to compressor fouling and erosion is linear with the load variation, but it is almost nonlinear for the downstream components. One of the pillars which underpins active aging is found in the performance of physical activity. While adherence to physical activity programs has traditionally been low in older people, immersive virtual reality (IVR) could provide an alternative and complementary training mode. A randomized clinical trial was conducted to explore the feasibility and effects of a 10-week IVR exergame program on physical functions of 24 institutionalized older adults who were allocated to an experimental group (EG n = 13; 85.08 ± 8.48 years) and control group (CG n = 11; 84.82 ± 8.10 years). The IVR intervention was feasible, with no adverse effects being reported (no Simulator Sickness Questionnaire symptoms; low negative experience scores on the Game Experience Questionnaire < 0.34/4), no dropouts, high adherence, and good post-gaming usability (System Usability Scale > 73.96%). The EG showed significant improvements: Tinetti scores for balance (1.84 ± 1.06; p < 0.001), gait (1.00 ± 1.08; p < 0.001), total score (2.84 ± 1.67; p < 0.001), and handgrip (4.96 ± 4.22; p < 0.001) (pre–post assessment). The CG showed significantly worsened compared to the EG: Five times sit-to-stand test, Tinetti scores for balance, gait, and total score, and the Timed Up and Go test total score (post-assessment). The findings show that the IVR intervention is a feasible method to approach a personalized exercise program and an effective way by which to improve physical function in the target population. Several systems, sensors, and devices are now available for the instrumental evaluation of physical function in persons with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). We aimed to systematically review the literature about such technologies. The literature search was conducted in all major scientific databases, including articles published between January 2001 and April 2022. Studies reporting measures derived from the instrumental assessment of physical function in individuals with COPD were included and were divided into application and validation studies. The quality of validation studies was assessed with the Consensus-based Standards for the selection of health Measurement Instruments (COSMIN) risk of bias tool. From 8752 articles retrieved, 21 application and 4 validation studies were included in the systematic review. Most application studies employed accelerometers, gait analysis systems, instrumented mattresses, or force plates to evaluate walking. Surface electro-myography or near-infrared spectroscopy were employed in four studies. Validation studies were heterogeneous and presented a risk of bias ranging from inadequate to doubtful. A variety of data regarding physical function can be retrieved from technologies used in COPD studies. However, a general lack of standardization and limitations in study design and sample size hinder the implementation of the instrumental evaluation of function in clinical practice. The Internet of Things (IoT) with cloud services are important functionalities in the latest IoT systems for providing various convenient services. These cloud-enabled IoT environments collect, analyze, and monitor surrounding data, resulting in the most effective handling of large amounts of heterogeneous data. In these environments, secure authentication with a key agreement mechanism is essential to ensure user and data privacy when transmitting data between the cloud server and IoT nodes. In this study, we prove that the previous scheme contains various security threats, and hence cannot guarantee essential security requirements. To overcome these security threats, we propose an improved authentication and key agreement scheme for cloud-enabled IoT using PUF. Furthermore, we evaluate its security by performing informal, formal (mathematical), and simulation analyses using the AVISPA tool and ROR model. The performance and security properties of our scheme are subsequently compared with those of other related schemes. The comparison confirms that our scheme is suitable for a practical cloud-enabled IoT environment because it provides a superior security level and is more efficient than contemporary schemes. Cybersecurity is a challenge in the utilization of IoT devices. One of the main security functions that we need for IoT devices is authentication. In this work, we used physical unclonable function (PUF) technology to propose a lightweight authentication protocol for IoT devices with long lifetimes. With the widespread and increasing use of Internet-of-Things (IoT) devices in all aspects of daily life, a hopeful future for people, data, and processes is emerging. Extensive spans allow for an integrated life cycle to be created from home to enterprise. The Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) forms a flourishing surface that incorporates the sensitive information of human life being sent to doctors or hospitals. These open an enormous space for hackers to utilize flaws of the IoMT network to make a profit. This creates a demand for standardizing regulations and a secure system. Though many authorities are making standards, there are some lacking in the system which makes the product vulnerable. Although many established mechanisms are present for the IoT network, there are a number of obstacles preventing its general implementation in the IoMT network. One of the adoption challenges is the IoMT devices itself, because many IoMT networks consist of battery-powered devices with constrained processing capability. A general overview of the different security integrations with IoT applications has been presented in several papers. Therefore, this paper aims to provide an overview of the IoMT ecosystem, regulations, challenges of standards, security mechanisms using cryptographic solutions, physical unclonable functions (PUF)-based solutions, blockchain, and named data networking (NDN) as well, with pros and cons. The Internet of Vehicles (IoV) is a new paradigm for vehicular networks. Using diverse access methods, IoV enables vehicles to connect with their surroundings. However, without data security, IoV settings might be hazardous. Because of the IoV's openness and self-organization, they are prone to malevolent attack. To overcome this problem, this paper proposes a revolutionary blockchain-enabled game theory-based authentication mechanism for securing IoVs. Here, a three layer multi-trusted authorization solution is provided in which authentication of vehicles can be performed from initial entry to movement into different trusted authorities' areas without any delay by the use of Physical Unclonable Functions (PUFs) in the beginning and later through duel gaming, and a dynamic Proof-of-Work (dPoW) consensus mechanism. Formal and informal security analyses justify the framework's credibility in more depth with mathematical proofs. A rigorous comparative study demonstrates that the suggested framework achieves greater security and functionality characteristics and provides lower transaction and computation overhead than many of the available solutions so far. However, these solutions never considered the prime concerns of physical cloning and side-channel attacks. However, the framework in this paper is capable of handling them along with all the other security attacks the previous work can handle. Finally, the suggested framework has been subjected to a blockchain implementation to demonstrate its efficacy with duel gaming to achieve authentication in addition to its capability of using lower burdened blockchain at the physical layer, which current blockchain-based authentication models for IoVs do not support. This study aimed to investigate how different strategies of task constraint manipulation impact physical and tactical demands in small-sided and conditioned games (SSCG). Ten recreational U-17 soccer players participated in this study (16.89 ± 0.11 years). We used different strategies of task manipulation to design two 4 vs. 4 SSCG: Structural SSCG and Functional SSCG. In Structural SSCG, pitch format and goal sizes were manipulated, while in Functional SSCG, players were allowed to kick the ball twice and at least 5 passes to shoot at the opponent's goal. Players participated in four Structural and Functional SSCG, of five minutes duration with a two-minute interval in between. Players' physical performance and tactical behavior were assessed using the WIMU PROTM inertial device. Structural SSCG stimulated players to cover more distance in sprinting (p = 0.003) and high-speed running (p < 0.001). Regarding tactical behavior, Structural SSCG stimulated players to explore game space better (p < 0.001). Moreover, Functional SSCG stimulated players to be closer to the ball, decreasing the effective playing space (p = 0.008). The aims of this study were to analyze the differences of physical demands of non-starter players regarding the playing time during the competition and to evaluate the physical demands of the compensatory training (MD + 1C) for substitute players in elite football. The match statistics and MD + 1C of substitute players from a professional Spanish LaLiga football club were analyzed using a 10-Hz global positioning system (GPS) Apex GPS system device, which has been validated as a reliable and valid method to analyze performance in team sports, during all games of the 2016/2017, 2017/2018 and 2018/2019 seasons. The starting players showed both lower total distances covered and high-intensity actions compared to the substitutes. Regarding the minutes played by the substitutes, greater physical performance was found for the players with fewer minutes (5–15 min). Furthermore, no differences were found between first and second divisions regarding physical performance of substitutes (p > 0.05). This study highlights the importance of individualizing the workload of training sessions for substitutes and starters. Furthermore, the complementary session should be individualized according to the minutes played by the substitutes. These players are potentially under-loaded compared to starters, especially in terms of high-intensity actions, therefore additional session-specific training for each substitute would be useful to reach the optimal training load according to the minutes played during the game. Rehabilitation aims to increase the independence and physical function after injury, surgery, or other trauma, so that patients can recover to their previous ability as much as possible. To be able to measure the degree of recovery and impact of the treatment, various functional performance tests are used. The Eight Hop Test is a hop exercise that is directly linked to the rehabilitation of people suffering from tendon and ligament injuries on the lower limb. This paper presents a systematic review on the use of sensors for measuring functional movements during the execution of the Eight Hop Test, focusing primarily on the use of sensors, related diseases, and different methods implemented. Firstly, an automated search was performed on the publication databases: PubMed, Springer, ACM, IEEE Xplore, MDPI, and Elsevier. Secondly, the publications related to the Eight-Hop Test and sensors were filtered according to several search criteria and 15 papers were finally selected to be analyzed in detail.
