The progression of the Internet of Things (IoT) has brought about a complete transformation in the way we interact with the physical world. However, this transformation has brought with it a slew of challenges. The advent of intelligent machines that can not only gather data for analysis and decision-making, but also learn and make independent decisions has been a breakthrough. However, the low-cost requirement of IoT devices requires the use of limited resources in processing and storage, which typically leads to a lack of security measures. Consequently, most IoT devices are susceptible to security breaches, turning them into "Bots" that are used in Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks. In this paper, we propose a new strategy labeled "Temporary Dynamic IP" (TDIP), which offers effective protection against DDoS attacks. The TDIP solution rotates Internet Protocol (IP) addresses frequently, creating a significant deterrent to potential attackers. By maintaining an "IP lease-time" that is short enough to prevent unauthorized access, TDIP enhances overall system security. Our testing, conducted via OMNET++, demonstrated that TDIP was highly effective in preventing DDoS attacks and, at the same time, improving network efficiency and IoT network protection. Internet of Things (IoT) technology has become an inevitable part of our daily lives. With the increase in usage of IoT Devices, manufacturers continuously develop IoT technology. However, the security of IoT devices is left behind in those developments due to cost, size, and computational power limitations. Since these IoT devices are connected to the Internet and have low security levels, one of the main risks of these devices is being compromised by malicious malware and becoming part of IoT botnets. IoT botnets are used for launching different types of large-scale attacks including Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks. These attacks are continuously evolving, and researchers have conducted numerous analyses and studies in this area to narrow security vulnerabilities. This paper systematically reviews the prominent literature on IoT botnet DDoS attacks and detection techniques. Architecture IoT botnet DDoS attacks, evaluations of those attacks, and systematically categorized detection techniques are discussed in detail. The escalating reliance of modern society on information and communication technology has rendered it vulnerable to an array of cyber-attacks, with distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks emerging as one of the most prevalent threats. This paper delves into the intricacies of DDoS attacks, which exploit compromised machines numbering in the thousands to disrupt data services and online commercial platforms, resulting in significant downtime and financial losses. Recognizing the gravity of this issue, various detection techniques have been explored, yet the quantity and prior detection of DDoS attacks has seen a decline in recent methods. This research introduces an innovative approach by integrating evolutionary optimization algorithms and machine learning techniques. Specifically, the study proposes XGB-GA Optimization, RF-GA Optimization, and SVM-GA Optimization methods, employing Evolutionary Algorithms (EAs) Optimization with Tree-based Pipelines Optimization Tool (TPOT)-Genetic Programming. Datasets pertaining to DDoS attacks were utilized to train machine learning models based on XGB, RF, and SVM algorithms, and 10-fold cross-validation was employed. The models were further optimized using EAs, achieving remarkable accuracy scores: 99.99% with the XGB-GA method, 99.50% with RF-GA, and 99.99% with SVM-GA. Furthermore, the study employed TPOT to identify the optimal algorithm for constructing a machine learning model, with the genetic algorithm pinpointing XGB-GA as the most effective choice. Cloud computing has revolutionized the information technology landscape, offering businesses the flexibility to adapt to diverse business models without the need for costly on-site servers and network infrastructure. A recent survey reveals that 95% of enterprises have already embraced cloud technology, with 79% of their workloads migrating to cloud environments. However, the deployment of cloud technology introduces significant cybersecurity risks, including network security vulnerabilities, data access control challenges, and the ever-looming threat of cyber-attacks such as Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks, which pose substantial risks to both cloud and network security. While Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) have traditionally been employed for DDoS attack detection, prior studies have been constrained by various limitations. In response to these challenges, we present an innovative machine learning approach for DDoS cloud detection, known as the Bayesian-based Convolutional Neural Network (BaysCNN) model. Leveraging the CICDDoS2019 dataset, which encompasses 88 features, we employ Principal Component Analysis (PCA) for dimensionality reduction. Our BaysCNN model comprises 19 layers of analysis, forming the basis for training and validation. Our experimental findings conclusively demonstrate that the BaysCNN model significantly enhances the accuracy of DDoS cloud detection, achieving an impressive average accuracy rate of 99.66% across 13 multi-class attacks. To further elevate the model's performance, we introduce the Data Fusion BaysFusCNN approach, encompassing 27 layers. By leveraging Bayesian methods to estimate uncertainties and integrating features from multiple sources, this approach attains an even higher average accuracy of 99.79% across the same 13 multi-class attacks. Our proposed methodology not only offers valuable insights for the development of robust machine learning-based intrusion detection systems but also enhances the reliability and scalability of IDS in cloud computing environments. Blockchain technologies have gained widespread use in security-sensitive applications due to their robust data protection. However, as blockchains are increasingly integrated into critical data management systems, they have become attractive targets for attackers. Among the various attacks on blockchain systems, distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks are one of the most significant and potentially devastating. These attacks render the systems incapable of processing transactions, causing the blockchain to come to a halt. To address the challenge of detecting DDoS attacks on blockchains, existing visualization schemes have been developed. However, these schemes often fail to provide early DDoS detection since they typically display only past and current system status. In this paper, we present a novel visualization scheme that not only portrays past and current values but also forecasts future expected system statuses. We achieve these future predictions by utilizing polynomial regression with blockchain data. Additionally, we offer an alternative DDoS detection method employing statistical analysis, specifically the coefficient of determination, to enhance accuracy. Through our experiments, we demonstrate that our proposed scheme excels at predicting future blockchain statuses and anticipating DDoS attacks with minimal error. The Internet of Things (IoT) introduces significant security vulnerabilities, raising concerns about cyber-attacks. Attackers exploit these vulnerabilities to launch distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, compromising availability and causing financial damage to digital infrastructure. This study focuses on mitigating DDoS attacks in corporate local networks by developing a model that operates closer to the attack source. The model utilizes Host Intrusion Detection Systems (HIDS) to identify anomalous behaviors in IoT devices and employs network-based intrusion detection approaches through a Network Intrusion Detection System (NIDS) for comprehensive attack identification. Additionally, a Host Intrusion Detection and Prevention System (HIDPS) is implemented in a fog computing infrastructure for real-time and precise attack detection. The proposed model integrates NIDS with federated learning, allowing devices to locally analyze their data and contribute to the detection of anomalous traffic. The distributed architecture enhances security by preventing volumetric attack traffic from reaching internet service providers and destination servers. This research contributes to the advancement of cybersecurity in local network environments and strengthens the protection of IoT networks against malicious traffic. This work highlights the efficiency of using a federated training and detection procedure through deep learning to minimize the impact of a single point of failure (SPOF) and reduce the workload of each device, thus achieving accuracy of 89.753% during detection and increasing privacy issues in a decentralized IoT infrastructure with a near-real-time detection and mitigation system. Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks pose a significant threat to internet and cloud security. Our study utilizes a Poisson distribution model to efficiently detect DDoS attacks with a computational complexity of O(n). Unlike Machine Learning (ML)-based algorithms, our method only needs to set up one or more Poisson models for legitimate traffic based on the granularity of the time periods during preprocessing, thus eliminating the need for training time. We validate this approach with four virtual machines on the CDX 3.0 platform, each simulating different aspects of DDoS attacks for offensive, monitoring, and defense evaluation purposes. The study further analyzes seven diverse DDoS attack methods. Nowadays, the Internet of Things (IoT) concept plays a pivotal role in society and brings new capabilities to different industries. The number of IoT solutions in areas such as transportation and healthcare is increasing and new services are under development. In the last decade, society has experienced a drastic increase in IoT connections. In fact, IoT connections will increase in the next few years across different areas. Conversely, several challenges still need to be faced to enable efficient and secure operations (e.g., interoperability, security, and standards). Furthermore, although efforts have been made to produce datasets composed of attacks against IoT devices, several possible attacks are not considered. Most existing efforts do not consider an extensive network topology with real IoT devices. The main goal of this research is to propose a novel and extensive IoT attack dataset to foster the development of security analytics applications in real IoT operations. To accomplish this, 33 attacks are executed in an IoT topology composed of 105 devices. These attacks are classified into seven categories, namely DDoS, DoS, Recon, Web-based, brute force, spoofing, and Mirai. Modern vehicle communication development is a continuous process in which cutting-edge security systems are required. Security is a main problem in the Vehicular Ad Hoc Network (VANET). Malicious node detection is one of the critical issues found in the VANET environment, with the ability to communicate and enhance the mechanism to enlarge the field. The vehicles are attacked by malicious nodes, especially DDoS attack detection. Several solutions are presented to overcome the issue, but none are solved in a real-time scenario using machine learning. During DDoS attacks, multiple vehicles are used in the attack as a flood on the targeted vehicle, so communication packets are not received, and replies to requests do not correspond in this regard. In this research, we selected the problem of malicious node detection and proposed a real-time malicious node detection system using machine learning. We proposed a distributed multi-layer classifier and evaluated the results using OMNET++ and SUMO with machine learning classification using GBT, LR, MLPC, RF, and SVM models. The group of normal vehicles and attacking vehicles dataset is considered to apply the proposed model. The simulation results effectively enhance the attack classification with an accuracy of 99%. Under LR and SVM, the system achieved 94 and 97%, respectively. The RF and GBT achieved better performance with 98% and 97% accuracy values, respectively. With recent advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) and next-generation communication technologies, the demand for Internet-based applications and intelligent digital services is increasing, leading to a significant rise in cyber-attacks such as Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS). AI-based DoS detection systems promise adequate identification accuracy with lower false alarms, significantly associated with the data quality used to train the model. Several works have been proposed earlier to select optimum feature subsets for better model generalization and faster learning. However, there is a lack of investigation in the existing literature to identify a common optimum feature set for three main AI methods: machine learning, deep learning, and unsupervised learning. The current works are compromised either with the variation of the feature selection (FS) method or limited to one type of AI model for performance evaluation. Therefore, in this study, we extensively investigated and evaluated the performance of 15 individual FS methods from three major categories: filter-based, wrapper-based, and embedded, and one ensemble feature selection (EnFS) technique. Furthermore, the individual feature subset's quality is evaluated using supervised and unsupervised learning methods for extracting a common best-performing feature subset. Aiming at the problems of single detection target of existing distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks, incomplete detection datasets and privacy caused by shared datasets, we propose a trusted multi-domain DDoS detection method based on federated learning. Firstly, we divide the types of DDoS attacks into different sub-attacks, design the federated learning dataset for DDoS detection in each domain, and use them to realize a more comprehensive detection method of DDoS attacks on the premise of protecting the data privacy of each domain. Secondly, in order to improve the robustness of federated learning and alleviate poisoning attack, we propose a reputation evaluation method based on blockchain, which estimates interaction reputation, data reputation and resource reputation of each participant comprehensively, so as to obtain the trusted federated learning participants and identify the malicious participants. In addition, we also propose a combination scheme of multi-domain detection and distributed knowledge base and design a feature graph of malicious behavior based on a knowledge graph to realize the memory of multi-domain feature knowledge. The experimental results show that the accuracy of most categories of the multi-domain DDoS detection method can reach more than 95% with the protection of datasets, and the reputation evaluation method proposed in this paper has a higher ability to identify malicious participants against the data poisoning attack when the threshold is set to 0.6. Low Earth orbit satellite constellation networks (LSCNs) have attracted significant attention around the world due to their great advantages of low latency and wide coverage, but they also bring new challenges to network security. Distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks are considered one of the most threatening attack methods in the field of Internet security. In this paper, a space-time graph model is built to identify the key nodes in LSCNs, and a DDoS attack is adopted as the main means to attack the key nodes. The scenarios of two-satellite-key-node and multi-satellite-key-node attacks are considered, and their security performance against DDoS attacks is also analyzed. The simulation results show that the transmission path of key satellite nodes will change rapidly after being attacked, and the average end-to-end delay and packet loss are linearly related to the number of key-node attacks. This work provides a comprehensive analysis of the security performance of LSCNs under a DDoS attack and theoretical support for future research on anti-DDoS attack strategies for LSCNs. The proposed model is designed for smart environmental monitoring systems. This paper also proposes a security model based on an authentication, detection, and prediction mechanism for IoT networks. 5G technologies provide ubiquitous connectivity. However, 5G security is a particularly important issue. Moreover, because public datasets are outdated, we need to create a self-generated dataset on the virtual platform. Therefore, we propose a two-stage intelligent detection model to enable 5G networks to withstand security issues and threats. Finally, we define malicious traffic detection capability metrics. We apply the self-generated dataset and metrics to thoroughly evaluate the proposed mechanism. We compare our proposed method with benchmark statistics and neural network algorithms. The experimental results show that the two-stage intelligent detection model can distinguish between benign and abnormal traffic and classify 21 kinds of DDoS. Our analysis also shows that the proposed approach outperforms all the compared approaches in terms of detection rate, malicious traffic detection capability, and response time. Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are low-cost, special-purpose networks introduced to resolve various daily life domestic, industrial, and strategic problems. These networks are deployed in such places where the repairments, in most cases, become difficult. The nodes in WSNs, due to their vulnerable nature, are always prone to various potential threats. The deployed environment of WSNs is noncentral, unattended, and administrativeless; therefore, malicious attacks such as distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks can easily be commenced by the attackers. Most of the DDoS detection systems rely on the analysis of the flow of traffic, ultimately with a conclusion that high traffic may be due to the DDoS attack. On the other hand, legitimate users may produce a larger amount of traffic known, as the flash crowd (FC). Both DDOS and FC are considered abnormal traffic in communication networks. The detection of such abnormal traffic and then separation of DDoS attacks from FC is also a focused challenge. This paper introduces a novel mechanism based on a Bayesian model to detect abnormal data traffic and discriminate DDoS attacks from FC in it. A smart public transport system is expected to be an integral part of our human lives to improve our mobility and reduce the effect of our carbon footprint. The safety and ongoing maintenance of the smart public transport system from cyberattacks are vitally important. To provide more comprehensive protection against potential cyberattacks, we propose a novel approach that combines blockchain technology and a deep learning method that can better protect the smart public transport system. By the creation of signed and verified blockchain blocks and chaining of hashed blocks, the blockchain in our proposal can withstand unauthorized integrity attack that tries to forge sensitive transport maintenance data and transactions associated with it. A hybrid deep learning-based method, which combines autoencoder (AE) and multi-layer perceptron (MLP), in our proposal can effectively detect distributed denial of service (DDoS) attempts that can halt or block the urgent and critical exchange of transport maintenance data across the stakeholders. The experimental results of the hybrid deep learning evaluated on three different datasets (i.e., CICDDoS2019, CIC-IDS2017, and BoT-IoT) show that our deep learning model is effective to detect a wide range of DDoS attacks achieving more than 95% F1-score across all three datasets in average. The comparison of our approach with other similar methods confirms that our approach covers a more comprehensive range of security properties for the smart public transport system. Software-defined networking (SDN) has emerged in recent years as a form of Internet architecture. Its scalability, dynamics, and programmability simplify the traditional Internet structure. This architecture realizes centralized management by separating the control plane and the data-forwarding plane of the network. However, due to this feature, SDN is more vulnerable to attacks than traditional networks and can cause the entire network to collapse. DDoS attacks, also known as distributed denial-of-service attacks, are the most aggressive of all attacks. These attacks generate many packets (or requests) and ultimately overwhelm the target system, causing it to crash. In this article, we designed a hybrid neural network DDosTC structure, combining efficient and scalable transformers and a convolutional neural network (CNN) to detect distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks on SDN, tested on the latest dataset, CICDDoS2019. For better verification, several experiments were conducted by dividing the dataset and comparisons were made with the latest deep learning detection algorithm applied in the field of DDoS intrusion detection. The experimental results show that the average AUC of DDosTC is 2.52% higher than the current optimal model and that DDosTC is more successful than the current optimal model in terms of average accuracy, average recall, and F1 score. Smart devices along with sensors are gaining in popularity with the promise of making life easier for the owner. As the number of sensors in an Internet of Things (IoT) system grows, a question arises as to whether the transmission between the sensors and the IoT devices is reliable and whether the user receives alerts correctly and in a timely manner. Increased deployment of IoT devices with sensors increases possible safety risks. It is IoT devices that are often misused to create Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks, which is due to the weak security of IoT devices against misuse. The article looks at the issue from the opposite point of view, when the target of a DDoS attack are IoT devices in a smart home environment. The article examines how IoT devices and the entire smart home will behave if they become victims of a DDoS attack aimed at the smart home from the outside. The question of security was asked in terms of whether a legitimate user can continue to control and receive information from IoT sensors, which is available during normal operation of the smart home. The case study was done both from the point of view of the attack on the central units managing the IoT sensors directly, as well as on the smart-home personal assistant systems, with which the user can control the IoT sensors. The article presents experimental results for individual attacks performed in the case study and demonstrates the resistance of real IoT sensors against DDoS attack. The main novelty of the article is that the implementation of a personal assistant into the smart home environment increases the resistance of the user's communication with the sensors. Application Layer Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks are very challenging to detect. The shortfall at the application layer allows formation of HTTP DDoS as the request headers are not compulsory to be attached in an HTTP request. Furthermore, the header is editable, thus providing an attacker with the advantage to execute HTTP DDoS as it contains almost similar request header that can emulate a genuine client request. To the best of the authors' knowledge, there are no recent studies that provide forged request headers pattern with the execution of the current HTTP DDoS attack scripts. Besides that, the current dataset for HTTP DDoS is not publicly available which leads to complexity for researchers to disclose false headers, causing them to rely on old dataset rather than more current attack patterns. Hence, this study conducted an analysis to disclose forged request headers patterns created by HTTP DDoS. The results of this study successfully disclose eight forged request headers patterns constituted by HTTP DDoS. The analysis was executed by using actual machines and eight real attack scripts which are capable of overwhelming a web server in a minimal duration. The expected advent of the Internet of Things (IoT) has triggered a large demand of embedded devices, which envisions the autonomous interaction of sensors and actuators while offering all sort of smart services. However, these IoT devices are limited in computation, storage, and network capacity, which makes them easy to hack and compromise. To achieve secure development of IoT, it is necessary to engineer scalable security solutions optimized for the IoT ecosystem. To this end, Software Defined Networking (SDN) is a promising paradigm that serves as a pillar in the fifth generation of mobile systems (5G) that could help to detect and mitigate Denial of Service (DoS) and Distributed DoS (DDoS) threats. In this work, we propose to experimentally evaluate an entropy-based solution to detect and mitigate DoS and DDoS attacks in IoT scenarios using a stateful SDN data plane.
