In the context of Industry 4.0, industrial production equipment needs to communicate through the industrial internet to improve the intelligence of industrial production. This requires the current communication network to have the ability of large-scale equipment access, multiple communication protocols/heterogeneous systems interoperability, and end-to-end deterministic low-latency transmission. Time-sensitive network (TSN), as a new generation of deterministic Ethernet communication technology, is the main development direction of time-critical communication technology applied in industrial environments, and Wi-Fi technology has become the main way of wireless access for users due to its advantages of high portability and mobility. Therefore, accessing WiFi in the TSN is a major development direction of the current industrial internet. In this paper, we model the scheduling problem of TSN and WiFi converged networks and propose a scheme based on a greedy strategy distributed estimation algorithm (GE) to solve the scheduling problem. Compared with the integer linear programming (ILP) algorithm and the Tabu algorithm, the algorithm implemented in this paper outperforms the other algorithms in being able to adapt to a variety of different scenarios and in scheduling optimization efficiency, especially when the amount of traffic to be deployed is large. Distributed in-network processing has garnered much attention due to its capability to estimate the unknown parameter of interest from noisy measurements based on a set of cooperating sensor nodes. In previous studies, distributed in-network processing mainly focused on short-distance communication systems, wherein sensor nodes collect certain parameters of interest within their maximum communication distance. In addition, the estimation of certain parameter vectors of interest from noisy measurements, relying heavily on training signals, is achieved with a non-blind distributed estimation algorithm. However, in some applications, acquiring knowledge of training signals beforehand is difficult. Therefore, it is necessary to perform distributed estimation algorithms for receivers without training signals, a concept known as blind distributed estimation. In this paper, the generalized Sato algorithm is used to design the blind equalizer for the signal estimation. In addition, we consider extending the short-distance communication system to a long-distance communication system for an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) cooperating with sensor nodes in the wireless sensor network (WSN). In this scenario, the data signal is transmitted from a UAV to the WSN and is received by sensor nodes. However, the performance of the blind equalizer is susceptible to the transmission channel in long-distance communication systems. Here, we present a network topology reconfiguration approach to address the issue of distributed blind equalization. The objective of the proposed method is to discard the influence of ill-channels on the other sensor nodes by detecting ill-channels and redesigning the sensor node weights. Through computer simulation experiments, we evaluated the performance of the blind equalizer using the average mean square error (MSE) and average symbol error rate (SER). In the results of the computer simulation experiments, the blind equalizer using the proposed method outperformed the conventional methods in terms of prediction accuracy and convergence speed. The miniaturization and low power consumption characteristics of RF MEMS (Radio Frequency Microelectromechanical System) switches provide new possibilities for the development of microsatellites and nanosatellites, which will play an increasingly important role in future space missions. This paper provides a comprehensive review of RF MEMS switches in satellite communication, detailing their working mechanisms, performance optimization strategies, and applications in reconfigurable antennas. It explores various driving mechanisms (electrostatic, piezoelectric, electromagnetic, thermoelectric) and contact mechanisms (capacitive, ohmic), highlighting their advantages, challenges, and advancements. The paper emphasizes strategies to enhance switch reliability and RF performance, including minimizing the impact of shocks, reducing driving voltage, improving contacts, and appropriate packaging. Finally, it discusses the enormous potential of RF MEMS switches in future satellite communications, addressing their technical advantages, challenges, and the necessity for further research to optimize design and manufacturing for broader applications and increased efficiency in space missions. The research findings of this review can serve as a reference for further design and improvement of RF MEMS switches, which are expected to play a more important role in future aerospace communication systems. In general, a multiple robotic manipulator system (MRMS) with uncertainties can be considered a composition system with a robotic manipulator subsystem (RMS) and a communication strength subsystem (CSS), and both subsystems are coupled to each other. In this paper, a new position tracking control scheme is proposed for the MRMS while considering the communication strength dynamics between robotic manipulators. The control scheme designed in this paper consists of two parts: the first part is to design the control protocol in the RMS, and the second part is to design the coupling relationship in the CSS. Through these two parts, we can achieve the position tracking of an MRMS. Firstly, the dynamical mathematical model of the RMS and CSS in the MRMS is constructed, and the corresponding assumptions are given. Then, the corresponding stability analysis is proposed, which provides the basis for a theoretical understanding of the underlying problem. The Internet of Vehicles(IoV) employs vehicle-to-everything (V2X) technology to establish intricate interconnections among the Internet, the IoT network, and the Vehicle Networks (IVNs), forming a complex vehicle communication network. However, the vehicle communication network is very vulnerable to attacks. The implementation of an intrusion detection system (IDS) emerges as an essential requisite to ensure the security of in-vehicle/inter-vehicle communication in IoV. Within this context, the imbalanced nature of network traffic data and the diversity of network attacks stand as pivotal factors in IDS performance. On the one hand, network traffic data often heavily suffer from data imbalance, which impairs the detection performance. To address this issue, this paper employs a hybrid approach combining the Synthetic Minority Over-sampling Technique (SMOTE) and RandomUnderSampler to achieve a balanced class distribution. On the other hand, the diversity of network attacks constitutes another significant factor contributing to poor intrusion detection model performance. Most current machine learning-based IDSs mainly perform binary classification, while poorly dealing with multiclass classification. This paper proposes an adaptive tree-based ensemble network as the intrusion detection engine for the IDS in IoV. This engine employs a deep-layer structure, wherein diverse ML models are stacked as layers and are interconnected in a cascading manner, which enables accurate and efficient multiclass classification, facilitating the precise identification of diverse network attacks. Moreover, a machine learning-based approach is used for feature selection to reduce feature dimensionality, substantially alleviating the computational overhead. Finally, we evaluate the proposed IDS performance on various cyber-attacks from the in-vehicle and external networks in IoV by using the network intrusion detection dataset CICIDS2017 and the vehicle security dataset Car-Hacking. The experimental results demonstrate remarkable performance, with an F1-score of 0.965 on the CICIDS2017 dataset and an F1-score of 0.9999 on the Car-Hacking dataset. Reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) has emerged as a promising technology to enhance the spectral efficiency of wireless communication systems. However, if there are many obstacles between the RIS and users, a single RIS may not provide sufficient performance. For this reason, a double RIS-aided communication system is proposed in this paper. However, this system also has a problem: the signal is attenuated three times due to the three channels created by the double RIS. To overcome these attenuations, an active RIS is proposed in this paper. An active RIS is almost the same as a conventional RIS, except for the included amplifier. Comprehensively, the proposed system overcomes various obstacles and attenuations. In this paper, an active RIS is applied to the second RIS. To reduce the power consumption of active elements, a partially active RIS is applied. To optimize the RIS elements, the sum of the covariance matrix is found by using channels related to each RIS, and the right singular vector is exploited using singular value decomposition for the sum of the covariance matrix. Then, the singular value of the sum of the covariance value is checked to determine which element is the active element. Simulation results show that the proposed system has better sum rate performance compared to a single RIS system. Although it has a lower sum rate performance compared to a double RIS with fully active elements, the proposed system will be more attractive in the future because it has much better energy efficiency. With the increasing growth rate of smart home devices and their interconnectivity via the Internet of Things (IoT), security threats to the communication network have become a concern. This paper proposes a learning engine for a smart home communication network that utilizes blockchain-based secure communication and a cloud-based data evaluation layer to segregate and rank data on the basis of three broad categories of Transactions (T), namely Smart T, Mod T, and Avoid T. The learning engine utilizes a neural network for the training and classification of the categories that helps the blockchain layer with improvisation in the decision-making process. The contributions of this paper include the application of a secure blockchain layer for user authentication and the generation of a ledger for the communication network; the utilization of the cloud-based data evaluation layer; the enhancement of an SI-based algorithm for training; and the utilization of a neural engine for the precise training and classification of categories. The proposed algorithm outperformed the Fused Real-Time Sequential Deep Extreme Learning Machine (RTS-DELM) system, the data fusion technique, and artificial intelligence Internet of Things technology in providing electronic information engineering and analyzing optimization schemes in terms of the computation complexity, false authentication rate, and qualitative parameters with a lower average computation complexity; in addition, it ensures a secure, efficient smart home communication network to enhance the lifestyle of human beings. This paper proposes an automatic air-to-ground (A2G) channel model selection method based on machine learning (ML) using digital surface model (DSM) terrain data. In order to verify whether a communication network for a new non-terrestrial user service such as Urban Air Mobility (UAM) satisfies the required performance, it is necessary to perform a simulation reflecting the characteristics of the corresponding terrain environments as accurately as possible. For this simulation, A2G channel models corresponding to various terrain environments and a method of automatically classifying the terrain type of the simulation area must be provided. Many A2G channel models based on actual measurement results exist, but the practical automatic topography classification method still needs to be developed. This paper proposes the first practical automatic topography classification method using a two-step neural network-based classifier utilizing various geographic feature data as input. Since there is no open topography dataset to evaluate the accuracy of the proposed method, we built a new dataset for five topography classes that reflect the characteristics of Korea's topography, which is also a contribution of our study. The simulation results using the new data set show that the proposed ML-based method could increase the selection accuracy compared to the technique for direct classification by humans or the existing cross-correlation-based classification method. Since the proposed method utilizes the DSM data, open to the public, it can easily reflect the different terrain characteristics of each country. Therefore, the proposed method can be effectively used in the realistic performance evaluation of new non-terrestrial communication networks utilizing vast airspace such as UAM or 6G mobile communications. Traditional heterogeneous networks (HetNets) are constrained by their hardware design and configuration. These HetNets have a limited ability to adapt to variations in network dynamics. Software-defined radio technology has the potential to address this adaptability issue. In this paper, we introduce a software-defined radio (SDR)-based long-term evolution licensed assisted access (LTE-LAA) architecture for next-generation communication networks. We show that with proper design and tuning of the proposed architecture, high-level adaptability in HetNets becomes feasible with a higher throughput and lower power consumption. Firstly, maximizing the throughput and minimizing power consumption are formulated as a constrained optimization problem. Then, the obtained solution, alongside a heuristic solution, is compared against the solutions to existing approaches, showing our proposed strategy is drastically superior in terms of both power efficiency and system throughput. This study is then concluded by employing artificial intelligence techniques in multi-objective optimization, namely random forest regression, particle swarm, and genetic algorithms, to balance out the trade-offs between maximizing the throughput and power efficiency and minimizing energy consumption. These investigations demonstrate the potential of employing the proposed LTE-LAA architecture in addressing the requirements of next-generation HetNets in terms of power, throughput, and green scalability. This paper presents an innovative approach towards space–ground integrated communication systems by combining terrestrial cellular networks, UAV networks, and satellite networks, leveraging advanced slicing technology. The proposed architecture addresses the challenges posed by future user surges and aims to reduce network overhead effectively. Central to our approach is the introduction of a marginal mobile station (MS)-assisted network resource allocation decision architecture. Building upon this foundation, we introduce the DP-DQN model, an enhanced decision-making algorithm tailored for MSs in dynamic network environments. Furthermore, this study introduces a feedback mechanism to ensure the accuracy and adaptability of the marginalization model over time. Through extensive simulations and experimental validations, our DP-DQN-based edge decision method demonstrates substantial potential in alleviating core network overhead while improving success access ratios compared to conventional methods. Communication systems need antennas with wide bandwidths to provide large throughput, while imaging radars benefit from high gain for increased range and wide bandwidths for high-resolution imaging. This paper presents the design and evaluation of a wideband, high-gain antenna that achieves an average gain of 9.7 dBi over a bandwidth of 1.49 GHz to 3.92 GHz by using multiple in-phase radiating apertures. The antenna has a unique structure with a central rectangular short-circuited patch sandwiched between two back-to-back U-shaped radiating patches and two flanking H-shaped short-circuited patches. Each of the U-shaped patches employs a coplanar waveguide as feeding to achieve ultra-wideband impedance matching. Benefiting from design arrangement, in-phase electrical field distributions appear at the gaps between the patches that result in equivalent radiating magnetic currents in the same direction. Theory analysis shows that the close-spaced, same-direction magnetic currents created by the radiating apertures intensify the radiation and increase antenna gain within its impedance bandwidth. Simulated data show that the use of the coplanar waveguide feeding and short-circuited patches increase the bandwidth from 65 MHz to 2.43 GHz. Moreover, the short-circuited patches increase the gain by 3.45 dB at 2.4 GHz. Simulation and measurement results validate the design and show that the antenna features a maximum gain of 11.3 dBi and an average gain of 9.7 dBi in a fractional bandwidth of 89.8%. Transforming an up-to-date vehicle into a measurement system is a rewarding task due to the large number of different sensors in the onboard control and diagnostic systems. These procedures are not performed by a single control unit; it is necessary to share the signal values over a communication network, to which an external device can be connected to record the real traffic. The paper aims to use these recorded data for 1 DOF longitudinal vehicle and powertrain model validation. For repeatability, three city routes are selected: plain road, smaller road grade, and higher road grade in both directions. Therefore, the drivetrain system is tested in a high load range, even with long-term recuperation. The altitude changes are recorded with a DGPS system. By the recorded measurements, the vehicle and the drivetrain model can be calibrated, such as the air drag parameters, the rolling resistances, and the efficiencies of the drivetrain. The validation criteria are defined for speed tracking, and the relative tolerance of the cumulated energy should be below 10%. Due to the uniqueness of the underwater environment, traditional data aggregation schemes face many challenges. Most existing data aggregation solutions do not fully consider node trustworthiness, which may result in the inclusion of falsified data sent by malicious nodes during the aggregation process, thereby affecting the accuracy of the aggregated results. Additionally, because of the dynamically changing nature of the underwater environment, current solutions often lack sufficient flexibility to handle situations such as node movement and network topology changes, significantly impacting the stability and reliability of data transmission. To address the aforementioned issues, this paper proposes a secure data aggregation algorithm based on a trust mechanism. By dynamically adjusting the number and size of node slices based on node trust values and transmission distances, the proposed algorithm effectively reduces network communication overhead and improves the accuracy of data aggregation. Due to the variability in the number of node slices, even if attackers intercept some slices, it is difficult for them to reconstruct the complete data, thereby ensuring data security. Visible light communication (VLC) is a promising complementary technology to its radio frequency (RF) counterpart to satisfy the high quality-of-service (QoS) requirements of intelligent vehicular communications by reusing LED street lights. In this paper, a hybrid handover scheme for vehicular VLC/RF communication networks is proposed to balance QoS and handover costs by considering the vertical handover and horizontal handover together judging from the mobile state of the vehicle. A Markov decision process (MDP) is formulated to describe this hybrid handover problem, with a cost function balancing the handover consumption, delay, and reliability. A value iteration algorithm was applied to solve the optimal handover policy. Underwater wireless sensor networks are gaining popularity since supporting a broad range of applications, both military and civilian. Wireless acoustics is the most widespread technology adopted in underwater networks, the realization of which must face several challenges induced by channel propagation like signal attenuation, multipath and latency. In order to address such issues, the attention of researchers has recently focused on the concept of cooperative communication and networking, borrowed from terrestrial systems and to be conveniently recast in the underwater scenario. In this paper, we present a comprehensive literature review about cooperative underwater wireless sensor networks, investigating how nodes cooperation can be exploited at the different levels of the network protocol stack. Specifically, we review the diversity techniques employable at the physical layer, error and medium access control link layer protocols, and routing strategies defined at the network layer. We also provide numerical results and performance comparisons among the most widespread approaches. Finally, we present the current and future trends in cooperative underwater networks, considering the use of machine learning algorithms to efficiently manage the different aspects of nodes cooperation. This paper investigates the performance of dual-hop unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-assisted communication channels, employing a decode-and-forward (DF) relay architecture. The system leverages terahertz (THz) communication for the primary hop and visible light communication (VLC) for the secondary hop. We conduct an in-depth analysis by deriving closed-form expressions for the end-to-end (E2E) bit error rate (BER). Additionally, we use a Monte Carlo simulation approach to generate best-fitting curves, validating our analytical expressions. A performance evaluation through BER and outage probability metrics demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed system. Specifically, our results indicate that the proposed system outperforms Free-Space Optics (FSO)-VLC and Radio-Frequency (RF)-VLC at a higher signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). The paper presents the development and verification of software and a testbed aiming to demonstrate the ability of two telecommunication network concepts—Next Generation Network (NGN) and Software-Defined Networking (SDN)—to cooperate. The proposed architecture includes components of the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) in its service stratum and of the SDN (controller and programmable switches) in its transport stratum, providing flexible transport resource control and management via open interfaces. One important feature of the presented solution is the inclusion of ITU-T standards for NGN networks, which are not considered in other related works. Simple, low-cost methods for sensing volatile organic compounds that leave no trace and do not have a detrimental effect on the environment are able to protect communities from the impacts of contaminants in water supplies. This paper reports the development of a portable, autonomous, Internet of Things (IoT) electrochemical sensor for detecting formaldehyde in tap water. The sensor is assembled from electronics, i.e., a custom-designed sensor platform and developed HCHO detection system based on Ni(OH)2–Ni nanowires (NWs) and synthetic-paper-based, screen-printed electrodes (pSPEs). The sensor platform, consisting of the IoT technology, a Wi-Fi communication system, and a miniaturized potentiostat can be easily connected to the Ni(OH)2–Ni NWs and pSPEs via a three-terminal electrode. The custom-made sensor, which has a detection capability of 0.8 µM/24 ppb, was tested for an amperometric determination of the HCHO in deionized (DI) and tap-water-based alkaline electrolytes. This promising concept of an electrochemical IoT sensor that is easy to operate, rapid, and affordable (it is considerably cheaper than any lab-grade potentiostat) could lead to the straightforward detection of HCHO in tap water. Furthermore, the paper underscores the vital role of ethical and regulatory considerations, emphasizing the need to uphold patient autonomy, ensure the confidentiality of data, and maintain equitable access to healthcare in the context of IoT communication security. Looking forward, we explore the impending landscape of BioMEMS security as it intertwines with emerging technologies such as AI-driven diagnostics, quantum computing, and genomic integration, anticipating potential challenges and strategizing for the future. Higher standards for reliability and efficiency apply to the connection between vehicle terminals and infrastructure by the fifth-generation mobile communication technology (5G). A vehicle-to-infrastructure system uses a communication system called NR-V2I (New Radio-Vehicle to Infrastructure), which uses Link Adaptation (LA) technology to communicate in constantly changing V2I to increase the efficacy and reliability of V2I information transmission. This paper proposes a Double Deep Q-learning (DDQL) LA scheduling algorithm for optimizing the modulation and coding scheme (MCS) of autonomous driving vehicles in V2I communication. The problem with the Doppler shift and complex fast time-varying channels reducing the reliability of information transmission in V2I scenarios is that they make it less likely that the information will be transmitted accurately. Schedules for autonomous vehicles using Space Division Multiplexing (SDM) and MCS are used in V2I communications. To address the issue of Deep Q-learning (DQL) overestimation in the Q-Network learning process, the approach integrates Deep Neural Network (DNN) and Double Q-Network (DDQN). The findings of this study demonstrate that the suggested algorithm can adapt to complex channel environments with varying vehicle speeds in V2I scenarios and by choosing the best scheduling scheme for V2I road information transmission using a combination of MCS. SDM not only increases the accuracy of the transmission of road safety information but also helps to foster cooperation and communication between vehicle terminals to realize cooperative driving. This paper introduces a new bidirectional integration approach that combines fiber sensor/free space optics (FSO) communication using an intensity and wavelength division multiplexer (IWDM) techniques-based long-distance fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensor strain-sensing system. By implementing coarse wavelength division multiplexing (CWDM), the system achieves the simultaneous transmission of optical communication and fiber optical sensor (FOS) sensing signals, resulting in a highly capable, flexible, and cost-effective solution. The proposed FSO transmission technique addresses complex fiber cable installation concerns with topographical limitations. This bidirectional structure ensures the reliability and stability of the long-distance FBG sensor system, supported by extensive research and experimentation. A hybrid stacked gated recurrent units and long short-term memory (SGRU-LSTM) model is proposed to enhance strain measurement accuracy by predicting and measuring the central wavelength of overlapped strain-sensing FBG sensor signals. The results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed model in peak wavelength detection accuracy. The primary benefit of integrating communication and sensing is the significant reduction in construction costs by eliminating the requirement for two individual fiber optic systems, as the integration allows for a single system to fulfill both functions, resulting in more efficient and cost-effective implementation. Overall, this paper contributes to advancing long-distance FBG sensor systems by integrating fiber sensor/FSO communication and deep learning techniques, improving transmission distance, multiplexing capacity, measurement accuracy, system survivability, and cost-effectiveness. Backscatter communication (BC) systems are a promising technology for internet of things (IoT) applications that allow devices to transmit information by modulating ambient radio signals without the need for a dedicated power source. However, the security of BC systems is a critical concern due to the vulnerability of the wireless channel. This paper investigates the impact of side information (SI) on the secrecy performance of BC systems. SI mainly refers to the additional knowledge that is available to the communicating parties beyond transmitted data, which can be used to enhance reliability, efficiency, security, and quality of service in various communication systems. In particular, in this paper, by considering a non-causally known SI at the transmitter, we derive compact analytical expressions of average secrecy capacity (ASC) and secrecy outage probability (SOP) for the proposed system model to analyze how SI affects the secrecy performance of BC systems. Moreover, a Monte Carlo simulation validates the accuracy of our analytical results and reveals that considering such knowledge at the transmitter has constructive effects on the system performance and ensures reliable communication with higher rates than the conventional BC systems without SI, namely, lower SOP and higher ASC are achievable. Compared with railway communication service requirements on the mainline, requirements in hotspots such as stations and yards are more complicated in terms of service types as well as bandwidth, of which railway-dedicated mobile communication systems such as 5G-R facilitated with dedicated frequency support cannot meet the entire communication requirements. Therefore, other radio-communication technologies need to be adopted as a supplement, among which the mmWave communication system is a promising technology, especially for large bandwidth communication between train and trackside. However, there is a lack of evaluation of the 28 GHz mmWave channel characteristics for the railway marshaling yard scenario. In this paper, the railway marshaling yard mmWave propagation scenario is deeply analyzed and classified into three typical categories, based on which, a measurement campaign is conducted using an SDR channel sounding system equipped with a 28 GHz mmWave phased-array antenna. A self-developed software under the LabVIEW platform is used to derive the channel parameters. Conclusions on the relationship between the parameters of MPC numbers, time-spread, and received power and position, as well as the impact of typical obstructions such as the Catenary, adjacent locomotives, and buildings are drawn. The statistical results and conclusions of this paper are helpful for facilitating the design and performance evaluation of future mmWave communication systems for railway marshaling yards and can also be further extended and applied to the research of mmWave utilization in 6G and other future communication technologies for more scenarios. Accurate localization of devices within Internet of Things (IoT) networks is driven by the emergence of novel applications that require context awareness to improve operational efficiency, resource management, automation, and safety in industry and smart cities. With the Integrated Localization and Communication (ILAC) functionality, IoT devices can simultaneously exchange data and determine their position in space, resulting in maximized resource utilization with reduced deployment and operational costs. Localization capability in challenging scenarios, including harsh environments with complex geometry and obstacles, can be provided with robust, reliable, and energy-efficient communication protocols able to combat impairments caused by interference and multipath, such as the IEEE 802.15.4 Time-Slotted Channel Hopping (TSCH) protocol. This paper presents an enhancement of the TSCH protocol that integrates localization functionality along with communication, improving the protocol's operational capabilities and setting a baseline for monitoring, automation, and interaction within IoT setups in physical environments. A novel approach is proposed to incorporate a hybrid localization by integrating Direction of Arrival (DoA) estimation and Multi-Carrier Phase Difference (MCPD) ranging methods for providing DoA and distance estimates with each transmitted packet. With the proposed enhancement, a single node can determine the location of its neighboring nodes without significantly affecting the reliability of communication and the efficiency of the network. The feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed approach are validated in a real scenario in an office building using low-cost proprietary devices, and the software incorporating the solution is provided. The experimental evaluation results show that a node positioned in the center of the room successfully estimates both the DoA and the distance to each neighboring node. Road safety is a serious concern worldwide, and traffic signs play a critical role in confirming road safety, particularly in the context of AVs. Therefore, there is a need for ongoing advancements in traffic sign evaluation methodologies. This paper comprehensively analyzes the relationship between traffic sign retroreflectivity and LiDAR intensity to enhance visibility and communication on road networks. Using Python 3.10 programming and statistical techniques, we thoroughly analyzed handheld retroreflectivity coefficients alongside LiDAR intensity data from two LiDAR configurations: 2LRLiDAR and 1CLiDAR systems. The study focused specifically on RA1 and RA2 traffic sign classes, exploring correlations between retroreflectivity and intensity and identifying factors that may impact their performance. Our findings reveal variations in retroreflectivity compliance rates among different sign categories and color compositions, emphasizing the necessity for targeted interventions in sign design and production processes. Additionally, we observed distinct patterns in LiDAR intensity distributions, indicating the potential of LiDAR technology for assessing sign visibility. However, the limited correlations between retroreflectivity and LiDAR intensity underscore the need for further investigation and standardization efforts. The increased seismic activity observed in the Himalayas, coupled with the expanding urbanization of the surrounding areas in northern India, poses significant risks to both human lives and property. Developing an earthquake early warning system in the region could help in alleviating these risks, especially benefiting cities and towns in mountainous and foothill regions close to potential earthquake epicenters. To address this concern, the government and the science and engineering community collaborated to establish the Uttarakhand State Earthquake Early Warning System (UEEWS). The government of Uttarakhand successfully launched this full-fledged operational system to the public on 4 August 2021. The UEEWS includes an array of 170 accelerometers installed in the seismogenic areas of the Uttarakhand. Ground motion data from these sensors are transmitted to the central server through the dedicated private telecommunication network 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This system is designed to issue warnings for moderate to high-magnitude earthquakes via a mobile app freely available for smartphone users and by blowing sirens units installed in the buildings earmarked by the government. The UEEWS has successfully issued alerts for light earthquakes that have occurred in the instrumented region and warnings for moderate earthquakes that have triggered in the vicinity of the instrumented area. This paper presents the design of a performance-improved 4-port multiple-input–multiple-output (MIMO) antenna proposed for millimeter-wave applications, especially for short-range communication systems. The antenna exhibits compact size, simplified geometry, and low profile along with wide bandwidth, high gain, low coupling, and a low Envelope Correlation Coefficient (ECC). Initially, a single-element antenna was designed by the integration of rectangular and circular patch antennas with slots. The antenna is superimposed on a Roger RT/Duroid 6002 with total dimensions of 17 × 12 × 1.52 mm3. Afterward, a MIMO configuration is formed along with a novel decoupling structure comprising a parasitic patch and a Defected Ground Structure (DGS). The parasitic patch is made up of strip lines with a rectangular box in the center, which is filled with circular rings. On the other side, the DGS is made by a combination of etched slots, resulting in separate ground areas behind each MIMO element. The proposed structure not only reduces coupling from −17.25 to −44 dB but also improves gain from 9.25 to 11.9 dBi while improving the bandwidth from 26.5–30.5 GHz to 25.5–30.5 GHz. Moreover, the MIMO antenna offers good performance while offering strong MIMO performance parameters, including ECC, diversity gain (DG), channel capacity loss (CCL), and mean effective gain (MEG). Furthermore, a state-of-the-art comparison is provided that results in the overperforming results of the proposed antenna system as compared to already published work. In the context of the rapid development of the Internet of Vehicles, virtual reality, automatic driving and the industrial Internet, the terminal devices in the network show explosive growth. As a result, more and more information is generated from the edge of the network, which makes the data throughput increase dramatically in the mobile communication network. As the key technology of the fifth-generation mobile communication network, mobile edge caching technology which caches popular data to the edge server deployed at the edge of the network avoids the data transmission delay of the backhaul link and the occurrence of network congestion. With the growing scale of the network, distributing hot data from cloud servers to edge servers will generate huge energy consumption. To realize the green and sustainable development of the communication industry and reduce the energy consumption of distribution of data that needs to be cached in edge servers, we make the first attempt to propose and solve the problem of edge caching data distribution with minimum energy consumption (ECDDMEC) in this paper. First, we model and formulate the problem as a constrained optimization problem and then prove its NP-hardness. Subsequently, we design a greedy algorithm with computational complexity of O (n 2) to solve the problem approximately. Experimental results show that compared with the distribution strategy of each edge server directly requesting data from the cloud server, the strategy obtained by the algorithm can significantly reduce the energy consumption of data distribution. Packaging solutions have recently evolved to become smart and intelligent thanks to technologies such as RFID tracking and communication systems, but the integration of sensing functionality in these systems is still under active development. In this paper, chipless RFID humidity sensors suitable for smart packaging are proposed together with a novel strategy to tune their performances and their operating range. The sensors are flexible, fast, low-cost and easy to fabricate and can be read wirelessly. The sensitivity and the humidity range where they can be used are adjustable by changing one of the sensor's structural parameters. Moreover, these sensors are proposed as double parameter sensors, using both the frequency shift and the intensity variation of the resonance peak for the measure of the relative humidity. The results show that the sensitivity can vary remarkably among the sensors proposed, together with the operative range. The sensor suitability in two specific smart packaging applications is discussed. In the first case, a threshold sensor in the low-humidity range for package integrity verification is analyzed, and in the second case, a more complex measurement of humidity in non-hermetic packages is investigated. Orthogonal chirp division multiplexing (OCDM) offers a promising modulation technology for shallow water underwater acoustic (UWA) communication systems due to multipath fading resistance and Doppler resistance. To handle the various channel distortions and interferences, obtaining accurate channel state information is vital for robust and efficient shallow water UWA communication. In recent years, deep learning has attracted widespread attention in the communication field, providing a new way to improve the performance of physical layer communication systems. In this paper, the pilot-based channel estimation is transformed into a matrix completion problem, which is mathematically equivalent to the image super-resolution problem arising in the field of image processing. Simulation results show that the deep learning-based method can improve the channel distortion, outperforming the equalization performed by traditional estimator, the performance of Bit Error Rate is improved by 2.5 dB compared to the MMSE method in OCDM system. At the 7.5 to 20 dB region, it achieves better bit error rate performance than OFDM systems, and the bit error rate is reduced by approximately 53% compared to OFDM when the SNR value is 20, which is very useful in shallow water UWA channels with multipath extension and severe time-varying characteristics. In this paper, we consider an integrated sensing, communication, and computation (ISCC) system to alleviate the spectrum congestion and computation burden problem. Specifically, while serving communication users, a base station (BS) actively engages in sensing targets and collaborates seamlessly with the edge server to concurrently process the acquired sensing data for efficient target recognition. A significant challenge in edge computing systems arises from the inherent uncertainty in computations, mainly stemming from the unpredictable complexity of tasks. With this consideration, we address the computation uncertainty by formulating a robust communication and computing resource allocation problem in ISCC systems. The primary goal of the system is to minimize total energy consumption while adhering to perception and delay constraints. This is achieved through the optimization of transmit beamforming, offloading ratio, and computing resource allocation, effectively managing the trade-offs between local execution and edge computing. To overcome this challenge, we employ a Markov decision process (MDP) in conjunction with the proximal policy optimization (PPO) algorithm, establishing an adaptive learning strategy. The proposed algorithm stands out for its rapid training speed, ensuring compliance with latency requirements for perception and computation in applications. With the growing maritime economy, ensuring the quality of communication for maritime users has become imperative. The maritime communication system based on nearshore base stations enhances the communication rate of maritime users through dynamic resource allocation. A virtual queue-based deep reinforcement learning beam allocation scheme is proposed in this paper, aiming to maximize the communication rate. More particularly, to reduce the complexity of resource management, we employ a grid-based method to discretize the maritime environment. For the combinatorial optimization problem of grid and beam allocation under unknown channel state information, we model it as a sequential decision process of resource allocation. The nearshore base station is modeled as a learning agent, continuously interacting with the environment to optimize beam allocation schemes using deep reinforcement learning techniques. Furthermore, we guarantee that grids with poor channel state information can be serviced through the virtual queue method. Adaptive equalization is crucial in mitigating distortions and compensating for frequency response variations in communication systems. It aims to enhance signal quality by adjusting the characteristics of the received signal. Particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithms have shown promise in optimizing the tap weights of the equalizer. However, there is a need to enhance the optimization capabilities of PSO further to improve the equalization performance. This paper provides a comprehensive study of the issues and challenges of adaptive filtering by comparing different variants of PSO and analyzing the performance by combining PSO with other optimization algorithms to achieve better convergence, accuracy, and adaptability. Traditional PSO algorithms often suffer from high computational complexity and slow convergence rates, limiting their effectiveness in solving complex optimization problems. The Internet of Things (IoT) generates a large volume of data whenever devices are interconnected and exchange data across a network. Consequently, a variety of services with diverse needs arises, including capacity requirements, data quality, and latency demands. These services operate on fog computing devices, which are limited in power and bandwidth compared to the cloud. The primary challenge lies in determining the optimal location for service implementation: in the fog, in the cloud, or in a hybrid setup. This paper introduces an efficient allocation technique that moves processing closer to the network's fog side. It explores the optimal allocation of devices and services while maintaining resource utilization within an IoT architecture. The paper also examines the significance of allocating services to devices and optimizing resource utilization in fog computing. In IoT scenarios, where a wide range of services and devices coexist, it becomes crucial to effectively assign services to devices. We propose priority-based service allocation (PSA) and sort-based service allocation (SSA) techniques, which are employed to determine the optimal order for the utilizing devices to perform different services. Experimental results demonstrate that our proposed technique reduces data communication over the network by 88%, which is achieved by allocating most services locally in the fog. Six-generation (6G) networks will contain a higher density of users, base stations, and communication equipment, which poses a significant challenge to secure communications and collaborations due to the complex network and environment as well as the number of resource-constraint devices used. Trust evaluation is the basis for secure communications and collaborations, providing an access criterion for interconnecting different nodes. Without a trust evaluation mechanism, the risk of cyberattacks on 6G networks will be greatly increased, which will eventually lead to the failure of network collaboration. For the sake of performing a comprehensive evaluation of nodes, this paper proposes a novel multiple role fusion trust evaluation framework that integrates multiple role fusion trust calculation and blockchain-based trust management. In order to take advantage of fused trust values for trust prediction, a neural network fitting method is utilized in the paper. This work further optimizes the traditional trust management framework and utilizes the optimized model for node trust prediction to better increase the security of communication systems. This paper examines the performance of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems for vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication channels. More specifically, a doubly selective channel under high intercarrier interference (ICI) is considered. Current solutions involve complex detection and/or reduced spectral efficiency receivers. This paper proposes the use of virtual carriers (VC) in an OFDM system with a low-complexity maximal ratio combining (MRC) detector to improve the bit error rate (BER) performance. The results show that VC provides diversity in received data, resulting in a ≥5 dB gain compared to previous OFDM systems with conventional linear/nonlinear detectors used as a reference. In the last decade, the main attacks against smart grids have occurred in communication networks (ITs) causing the disconnection of physical equipment from power networks (OTs) and leading to electricity supply interruptions. To deal with the deficiencies presented in past studies, this paper addresses smart grids vulnerability assessment considering the smart grid as a cyber-physical heterogeneous interconnected system. The model of the cyber-physical system is composed of a physical power network model and the information and communication technology network model (ICT) both are interconnected and are interrelated by means of the communication and control equipment installed in the smart grid. This model highlights the hidden interdependencies between power and ICT networks and contains the interaction between both systems. To mimic the real nature of smart grids, the interconnected heterogeneous model is based on multilayer complex network theory and scale-free graph, where there is a one-to-many relationship between cyber and physical assets. Multilayer complex network theory centrality indexes are used to determine the interconnected heterogeneous system set of nodes criticality. The proposed methodology, which includes measurement, communication, and control equipment, has been tested on a standardized power network that is interconnected to the ICT network. Results demonstrate the model's effectiveness in detecting vulnerabilities in the interdependent cyber-physical system compared to traditional vulnerability assessments applied to power networks (OT). For covert communication in lossy channels, it is necessary to consider that the carrier of the hidden watermark will undergo multiple image-processing attacks. In order to ensure that secret information can be extracted without distortion from the watermarked images that have undergone attacks, in this paper, we design a novel fragmented secure communication system. The sender will fragment the secret data to be transmitted and redundantly hide it in a large number of multimodal carriers of messenger accounts on multiple social platforms. The receiver receives enough covert carriers, extracts each fragment, and concatenates the transmitted secret data. This article uses the image carrier as an example to fragment the text file intended for transmission and embeds it into a large number of images, with each fragment being redundant and embedded into multiple images. In this way, at the receiving end, only enough stego images need to be received to extract the information in each image, and then concatenate the final secret file. In order to resist various possible attacks during image transmission, we propose a strong robust image watermarking method. This method adopts a watermark layer based on DFT, which has high embedding and detection efficiency and good invisibility. Secondly, a watermark layer based on DCT is adopted, which can resist translation attacks, JPEG attacks, and other common attacks. Experiments have shown that our watermarking method is very fast; both the embedding time and the extraction time are less than 0.15 s for images not larger than 2000 × 2000 . Our watermarking method has very good invisibility with 41 dB PSNR on average. And our watermarking method is more robust than existing schemes and robust to nearly all kinds of attacks. Based on this strong robust image watermarking method, the scheme of fragmenting and hiding redundant transmission content into a large number of images is effective and practical. Our scheme can 100% restore the secret file completely under different RST or hybrid attacks, such as rotation by 1 degree and 5 degrees, scaling by 1.25 and 0.8, and cropping by 10% and 25%. Our scheme can successfully restore the secret file completely even if 30% of received images are lost. When 80% of received images are lost, our scheme can still restore 61.1% of the secret file. Switched filter banks find widespread application in frequency-hopping radar systems and communication networks with multiple operating frequencies, especially in situations demanding elevated filter element isolation. In this paper, the design and implementation of a highly isolated switchable narrow-bandpass filter bank architecture using hairpin microstrip topology is presented. The filter bank has four discrete bandpass filters with passbands of 2.0–2.2 GHz, 2.3–2.5 GHz, 3.1–3.3 GHz, and 3.9–4.1 GHz. These filters span the radar S-frequency band (2.0–4.0 GHz). In order to switch between channels with a switching speed of nanoseconds, low-loss and highly isolated SP4T switches are implemented. Advanced design system (ADS) software is used to design the various filter functionalities, and the entire system is tested on a vector network analyzer (VNA). With the advancement of urban rail transit towards intelligence, the demand for urban rail transit communication has increased significantly, but the traditional urban rail transit vehicle–ground communication system has been unable to meet the future vehicle–ground communication requirements. To improve the performance of vehicle–ground communication, the paper proposes a reliable low-latency multipath routing (RLLMR) algorithm for urban rail transit ad hoc networks. First, RLLMR combines the characteristics of urban rail transit ad hoc networks and uses node location information to configure a proactive multipath to reduce route discovery delay. Second, the number of transmission paths is adaptively adjusted according to the quality of service (QoS) requirements for vehicle–ground communication, and then the optimal path is selected based on the link cost function to improve transmission quality. Third, in order to enhance the reliability of communication, a routing maintenance scheme has been added, and the static node-based local repair scheme is used in routing maintenance to reduce the maintenance cost and time. The simulation results show that compared with traditional AODV and AOMDV protocols, the proposed RLLMR algorithm has good performance in improving latency and is slightly inferior to the AOMDV protocol in improving reliability. The TCP protocol is a connection-oriented and reliable transport layer communication protocol which is widely used in network communication. With the rapid development and popular application of data center networks, high-throughput, low-latency, and multi-session network data processing has become an immediate need for network devices. If only a traditional software protocol stack is used for processing, it will occupy a large amount of CPU resources and affect network performance. To address the above issues, this paper proposes a double-queue storage structure for a 10G TCP/IP hardware offload engine based on FPGA. Furthermore, a TOE reception transmission delay theoretical analysis model for interaction with the application layer is proposed, so that the TOE can dynamically select the transmission channel based on the interaction results. After board-level verification, the TOE supports 1024 TCP sessions with a reception rate of 9.5 Gbps and a minimum transmission latency of 600 ns. When the TCP packet payload length is 1024 bytes, the latency performance of TOE's double-queue storage structure improves by at least 55.3% compared to other hardware implementation approaches. This paper investigates the degradation caused by interference resulting from cyclic prefix violation and symbol timing offset in narrowband power line communication systems. In this sense, it presents a unified formulation from which Hermitian symmetric orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (HS-OFDM), orthogonal chirp division multiplexing (OCDM), single-carrier cyclic prefix (SCCP), and orthogonal time–frequency division multiplexing (OTFDM) can be easily derived. The paper then provides closed-form expressions for quantifying the aforementioned interference in the presence of a frequency domain equalizer. The numerical analyses exhibit the performances of these schemes under various data communication conditions, such as the availability of channel state information, the presence or absence of interference, modeling of additive noise as a white or colored Gaussian random process, frequency domain equalizer type, and the use of bit and power allocation techniques. The closed-form expressions and performance analyses regarding achievable data rate and bit error probability provide guidance for dealing with distinct constraints in narrowband power line communication (PLC) systems using the HS-OFDM, OCDM, SCCP, or OTFDM scheme. This paper addresses the challenge of implementing Direction of Arrival (DOA) methods for indoor localization using Internet of Things (IoT) devices, particularly with the recent direction-finding capability of Bluetooth. DOA methods are complex numerical methods that require significant computational resources and can quickly deplete the batteries of small embedded systems typically found in IoT networks. To address this challenge, the paper presents a novel Unitary R-D Root MUSIC for L-shaped arrays that is tailor-made for such devices utilizing a switching protocol defined by Bluetooth. The solution exploits the radio communication system design to speed up execution, and its root-finding method circumvents complex arithmetic despite being used for complex polynomials. The paper carries out experiments on energy consumption, memory footprint, accuracy, and execution time in a commercial constrained embedded IoT device series without operating systems and software layers to prove the viability of the implemented solution. The results demonstrate that the solution achieves good accuracy and attains an execution time of a few milliseconds, making it a viable solution for DOA implementation in IoT devices. V2P (vehicle-to-pedestrian) communication can improve road traffic efficiency, solve traffic congestion, and improve traffic safety. It is an important direction for the development of smart transportation in the future. Existing V2P communication systems are limited to the early warning of vehicles and pedestrians, and do not plan the trajectory of vehicles to achieve active collision avoidance. In order to reduce the adverse effects on vehicle comfort and economy caused by switching the "stop–go" state, this paper uses a PF (particle filter) to preprocess GPS (Global Positioning System) data to solve the problem of poor positioning accuracy. An obstacle avoidance trajectory-planning algorithm that meets the needs of vehicle path planning is proposed, which considers the constraints of the road environment and pedestrian travel. The algorithm improves the obstacle repulsion model of the artificial potential field method, and combines it with the A* algorithm and model predictive control. At the same time, it controls the input and output based on the artificial potential field method and vehicle motion constraints, so as to obtain the planned trajectory of the vehicle's active obstacle avoidance. The test results show that the vehicle trajectory planned by the algorithm is relatively smooth, and the acceleration and steering angle change ranges are small. Based on ensuring safety, stability, and comfort in vehicle driving, this trajectory can effectively prevent collisions between vehicles and pedestrians and improve traffic efficiency. Cellular vehicle-to-everything (C-V2X) is a communication technology that supports various safety, mobility, and environmental applications, given its higher reliability properties compared to other communication technologies. The performance of these C-V2X-enabled intelligent transportation system (ITS) applications is affected by the performance of the C-V2X communication technology (mainly packet loss). Similarly, the performance of the C-V2X communication is dependent on the vehicular traffic density which is affected by the traffic mobility patterns and vehicle routing strategies. Consequently, it is critical to develop a tool that can simulate, analyze, and evaluate the mutual interactions of the transportation and communication systems at the application level to quantify the benefits of C-V2X-enabled ITS applications realistically. In this paper, we demonstrate the benefits gained when using C-V2X Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) communication technology in an energy-efficient dynamic routing application. Specifically, we develop a Connected Energy-Efficient Dynamic Routing (C-EEDR) application using C-V2X as a communication medium in an integrated vehicular traffic and communication simulator (INTEGRATION). The results demonstrate that the C-EEDR application achieves fuel savings of up to 16.6% and 14.7% in the IDEAL and C-V2X communication cases, respectively, for a peak hour demand on the downtown Los Angeles network considering a 50% level of market penetration of connected vehicles. The results demonstrate that the fuel savings increase with increasing levels of market penetration at lower traffic demand levels (25% and 50% the peak demand). At higher traffic demand levels (75% and 100%), the fuel savings increase with increasing levels of market penetration with maximum benefits at a 50% market penetration rate. Although the communication system is affected by the high density of vehicles at the high traffic demand levels (75% and 100% the peak demand), the C-EEDR application manages to perform reliably, producing system-wide fuel consumption savings.The C-EEDR application achieves fuel savings of 15.2% and 11.7% for the IDEAL communication and 14% and 9% for the C-V2X communication at the 75% and 100% market penetration rates, respectively. Finally, the paper demonstrates that the C-V2X communication constraints only affect the performance of the C-EEDR application at the full demand level when the market penetration of the connected vehicles exceeds 25%. As the Internet of Things (IoT) concept materialized worldwide in complex ecosystems, the related data security and privacy issues became apparent. While the system elements and their communication paths could be protected individually, generic, ecosystem-wide approaches were sought after as well. On a parallel timeline to IoT, the concept of distributed ledgers and blockchains came into the technological limelight. Blockchains offer many advantageous features in relation to enhanced security, anonymity, increased capacity, and peer-to-peer capabilities. Although blockchain technology can provide IoT with effective and efficient solutions, there are many challenges related to various aspects of integrating these technologies. While security, anonymity/data privacy, and smart contract-related features are apparently advantageous for blockchain technologies (BCT), there are challenges in relation to storage capacity/scalability, resource utilization, transaction rate scalability, predictability, and legal issues. This paper provides a systematic review on state-of-the-art approaches of BCT and IoT integration, specifically in order to solve certain security- and privacy-related issues. The paper first provides a brief overview of BCT and IoT's basic principles, including their architecture, protocols and consensus algorithms, characteristics, and the challenges of integrating them. Afterwards, it describes the survey methodology, including the search strategy, eligibility criteria, selection results, and characteristics of the included articles. Later, we highlight the findings of this study which illustrates different works that addressed the integration of blockchain technology and IoT to tackle various aspects of privacy and security, which are followed by a categorization of applications that have been investigated with different characteristics, such as their primary information, objective, development level, target application, type of blockchain and platform, consensus algorithm, evaluation environment and metrics, future works or open issues (if any), and further notes for consideration. Furthermore, a detailed discussion of all articles is included from an architectural and operational perspective. In recent years, we have been witnessing a growing interest in the subject of communication at sea. One of the promising solutions to enable widespread access to data transmission capabilities in coastal waters is the possibility of employing an on-shore wireless access infrastructure. However, such an infrastructure is a heterogeneous one, managed by many independent operators and utilizing a number of different communication technologies. If a moving sea vessel is to maintain a reliable communication within such a system, it needs to employ a set of network mechanisms dedicated for this purpose. In this paper, we provide a short overview of such requirements and overall characteristics of maritime communication, but our main focus is on the link selection procedure—an element of critical importance for the process of changing the device/system which the mobile vessel uses to retain communication with on-shore networks. The paper presents the concept of employing deep neural networks for the purpose of link selection. The proposed methods have been verified using propagation models dedicated to realistically represent the environment of maritime communications and compared to a number of currently popular solutions. The results of evaluation indicate a significant gain in both accuracy of predictions and reduction of the amount of test traffic which needs to be generated for measurements. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

With the rapid growth in the data and processing over the cloud, it has become easier to access those data. On the other hand, it poses many technical and security challenges to the users of those provisions. Fog computing makes these technical issues manageable to some extent. Fog computing is one of the promising solutions for handling the big data produced by the IoT, which are often security-critical and time-sensitive. Massive IoT data analytics by a fog computing structure is emerging and requires extensive research for more proficient knowledge and smart decisions. Though an advancement in big data analytics is taking place, it does not consider fog data analytics. However, there are many challenges, including heterogeneity, security, accessibility, resource sharing, network communication overhead, the real-time data processing of complex data, etc. This paper explores various research challenges and their solution using the next-generation fog data analytics and IoT networks. We also performed an experimental analysis based on fog computing and cloud architecture. The result shows that fog computing outperforms the cloud in terms of network utilization and latency.
