In recent years, the technological landscape has undergone a profound metamorphosis catalyzed by the widespread integration of drones across diverse sectors. Essential to the drone manufacturing process is comprehensive testing, typically conducted in controlled laboratory settings to uphold safety and privacy standards. However, a formidable challenge emerges due to the inherent limitations of GPS signals within indoor environments, posing a threat to the accuracy of drone positioning. This limitation not only jeopardizes testing validity but also introduces instability and inaccuracies, compromising the assessment of drone performance. Given the pivotal role of precise GPS-derived data in drone autopilots, addressing this indoor-based GPS constraint is imperative to ensure the reliability and resilience of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). This paper delves into the implementation of an Indoor Positioning System (IPS) leveraging computer vision. The proposed system endeavors to detect and localize UAVs within indoor environments through an enhanced vision-based triangulation approach. A comparative analysis with alternative positioning methodologies is undertaken to ascertain the efficacy of the proposed system. The results obtained showcase the efficiency and precision of the designed system in detecting and localizing various types of UAVs, underscoring its potential to advance the field of indoor drone navigation and testing. In this paper, we present a laser triangulation sensor to measure the distance between the sensor and an object without contact using a diffraction slit rather than a traditional lens. We show that by replacing the lens with a slit, we can exploit the resulting diffraction pattern to have finer and yet simpler image analysis, yielding better estimation of the distance to the object. To test our hypothesis, we build a precision position table and a laser triangulation sensor, generate large data sets to test different estimation algorithms on various materials, and compare data acquisition using a traditional lens versus using a slit. The variety of equipment implementing laser triangulation technology for 3D scanning makes it difficult to analyse their performance, comparability, and traceability. In this study, three laser triangulation sensors arranged in different configurations are analysed using high precision spheres made of different materials and surface finishes. Three types of reference parameters were used: diameter, form error, and standard deviation of the point cloud. The experimentation was based on studying the quality of the point clouds generated by the three sensors, which enabled us to find and quantify an edge effect in the horizon of the scanned surface. A procedure to reach the optimal filtering conditions was proposed, and a chart of recommended usage of each sphere (material and finish) was created for the different types of sensors. One of the important issues being explored in Industry 4.0 is collaborative mobile robots. This collaboration requires precise navigation systems, especially indoor navigation systems where GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) cannot be used. To enable the precise localization of robots, different variations of navigation systems are being developed, mainly based on trilateration and triangulation methods. Triangulation systems are distinguished by the fact that they allow for the precise determination of an object's orientation, which is important for mobile robots. An important feature of positioning systems is the frequency of position updates based on measurements. For most systems, it is 10–20 Hz. In our work, we propose a high-speed 50 Hz positioning system based on the triangulation method with infrared transmitters and receivers. In addition, our system is completely static, i.e., it has no moving/rotating measurement sensors, which makes it more resistant to disturbances (caused by vibrations, wear and tear of components, etc.). In this paper, we describe the principle of the system as well as its design. Finally, we present tests of the built system, which show a beacon bearing accuracy of Δ φ = 0.51 ° , which corresponds to a positioning accuracy of Δ R = 6.55 cm, with a position update frequency of f u p d a t e = 50 Hz. As incrementally formed sheets show large geometric deviations resulting from the deflection of the forming tool, an in-process measurement of the tool tip position is required. In order to cover a measuring volume of 2.0 m × 1.0 m × 0.2 m and to achieve measuring uncertainties of less than 50 µm, a multi-sensor system based on triangulation is realized. Each shadow imaging sensor in the multi-sensor system evaluates the direction vector to an LED attached to the tool, and the three-dimensional position of the LED is then determined from the combination of two sensors. Experimental results show that the angle of view from the sensor to the LED limits both the measurement range and the measurement uncertainty. The measurement uncertainty is dominated by systematic deviations, but these can be compensated, so that the measurement uncertainty required for measuring the tool tip position in the ISF is achieved. Distance estimation is one of the oldest and most challenging tasks in computer vision using only a monocular camera. This can be challenging owing to the presence of occlusions, noise, and variations in the lighting, texture, and shape of objects. Additionally, the motion of the camera and objects in the scene can affect the accuracy of the distance estimation. Various techniques have been proposed to overcome these challenges, including stereo matching, structured light, depth from focus, depth from defocus, depth from motion, and time of flight. The addition of information from a high-resolution 3D view of the surroundings simplifies the distance calculation. This paper describes a novel distance estimation method that operates with converted point cloud data. The proposed method is a reliable map-based bird's eye view (BEV) that calculates the distance to the detected objects. Using the help of the Euler-region proposal network (E-RPN) model, a LiDAR-to-image-based method for metric distance estimation with 3D bounding box projections onto the image was proposed. We demonstrate that despite the general difficulty of the BEV representation in understanding features related to the height coordinate, it is possible to extract all parameters characterizing the bounding boxes of the objects, including their height and elevation. Finally, we applied the triangulation method to calculate the accurate distance to the objects and statistically proved that our methodology is one of the best in terms of accuracy and robustness. In an era of high penetration of renewable energy, accurate photovoltaic (PV) power forecasting is crucial for balancing and scheduling power systems. However, PV power output has uncertainty since it depends on stochastic weather conditions. In this paper, we propose a novel short-term PV forecasting technique using Delaunay triangulation, of which the vertices are three weather stations that enclose a target PV site. By leveraging a Transformer encoder and gated recurrent unit (GRU), the proposed TransGRU model is robust against weather forecast error as it learns feature representation from weather data. We construct a framework based on Delaunay triangulation and TransGRU and verify that the proposed framework shows a 7–15% improvement compared to other state-of-the-art methods in terms of the normalized mean absolute error. Moreover, we investigate the effect of PV aggregation for virtual power plants where errors can be compensated across PV sites. Our framework demonstrates 41–60% improvement when PV sites are aggregated and achieves as low as 3–4% of forecasting error on average. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Many authors have been working on approaches that can be applied to social robots to allow a more realistic/comfortable relationship between humans and robots in the same space. This paper proposes a new navigation strategy for social environments by recognizing and considering the social conventions of people and groups. To achieve that, we proposed the application of Delaunay triangulation for connecting people as vertices of a triangle network. Then, we defined a complete asymmetric Gaussian function (for individuals and groups) to decide zones where the robot must avoid passing. Furthermore, a feature generalization scheme called socialization feature was proposed to incorporate perception information that can be used to change the variance of the Gaussian function. Simulation results have been presented to demonstrate that the proposed approach can modify the path according to the perception of the robot compared to a standard A* algorithm. An alternative authentication method to traditional alphanumeric passwords is graphical password authentication, also known as graphical authentication, for which one of the most valuable cued-recall techniques is PassPoints. This technique stands out for its security and usability. However, it can be violated if the user follows a predefined pattern when selecting the five points in an image as their passwords, such as the DIAG and LINE patterns. Dictionary attacks can be built using these two patterns to compromise graphical passwords. So far, no reports have been found in the state of the art about any test capable of detecting graphical passwords with DIAG or LINE patterns in PassPoints. Studies carried out in other scenarios have shown the effectiveness of the characteristics of Delaunay triangulations in extracting information about the dependence between the points. In this work, graphical passwords formed by five randomly selected points on an image are compared with passwords whose points contain patterns of the DIAG or LINE type. The comparison is based on building for each password its Delaunay triangulation and calculating the mean value of the maximum angles of the triangles obtained; such a mean value is denoted by amadt. It is experimentally shown that in passwords containing DIAG and LINE patterns, the value of amadt is higher than the one obtained in passwords formed by random dots. From this result, it is proposed to use this amadt value as a statistic to build a test of means. This result constitutes the work's main contribution: The proposal of a spatial randomness test to detect weak graphic passwords that contain DIAG and LINE type patterns. The importance and novelty of this result become evident when two aspects are taken into account: First, these weak passwords can be exploited by attackers to improve the effectiveness of their attacks; second, there are no prior criteria to detect this type of weak password. To automatically evaluate the ergonomics of workers, 3D skeletons are needed. Most ergonomic assessment methods, like REBA, are based on the different 3D joint angles. Thanks to the huge amount of training data, 2D skeleton detectors have become very accurate. In this work, we test three methods to calculate 3D skeletons from 2D detections: using the depth from a single RealSense range camera, triangulating the joints using multiple cameras, and combining the triangulation of multiple camera pairs. We tested the methods using recordings of a person doing different assembly tasks. We compared the resulting joint angles to the ground truth of a VICON marker-based tracking system. The resulting RMS angle error for the triangulation methods is between 12° and 16°, showing that they are accurate enough to calculate a useful ergonomic score from. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of the research is to analyze the possibility of the development and realization of a common laser triangulation sensor arrangement-based probe for the measurement of slots and bore sides with the help of a mirror attachment. The analysis shows the feasibility and limits of the solution with respect to the maximum measurement depth and surface distance measurement working range. We propose two possible solutions: one for maximizing the ratio of the measurement depth to the measured bore size and the second for maximizing the total depth, intended for the measurement of slots and large bore sizes. We analyzed measurement error sources. We found that the errors related to the reflection mirror misalignment can be fully compensated. We proved the validity of the proposed solution with the realization of a commercial laser triangulation sensor-based probe and demonstrated a slot side and a bore side surface distance scanning measurement. Due to pathologies or age-related problems, in some disabled people, motor impairment is associated with cognitive and/or visual impairments. This combination of limitations unfortunately leads to an inability to move around independently. Indeed, their situation does not allow them to use a conventional electric wheelchair, for safety reasons, and for the moment there is no other technological solution providing safe movement capacity. This lack of access to an autonomous travel solution has the consequence of weakening the intellectual, personal, social, cultural and moral development, as well as the life expectancy, of the people concerned. In this context, our team is working on the development of an optoelectronic system that secures the displacement of electric wheelchairs. This is a large project that requires the development of several functionalities such as: the anti-collision of the wheelchair with its environment, the prevention of falls from the wheelchair on uneven levels, and the adaptation of the system mechanically and electronically to the majority of commercially available electric wheelchair models, among others. In this article, we introduce our solution for detecting dangerous height differences, also called "negative obstacles", through the creation of a dedicated sensor. This sensor works by optical triangulation and can embed several laser beams in order to extend its detection zone. It has the particularity of being robust in direct sunlight and rain and has a sufficiently high measurement rate to be suitable for the displacement of electric wheelchairs.
