In today's world, a significant amount of global energy is used in buildings. Unfortunately, a lot of this energy is wasted, because electrical appliances are not used properly or efficiently. One way to reduce this waste is by detecting, learning, and predicting when people are present in buildings. To do this, buildings need to become "smart" and "cognitive" and use modern technologies to sense when and how people are occupying the buildings. By leveraging this information, buildings can make smart decisions based on recently developed methods. In this paper, we provide a comprehensive overview of recent advancements in Internet of Things (IoT) technologies that have been designed and used for the monitoring of indoor environmental conditions within buildings. Using these technologies is crucial to gathering data about the indoor environment and determining the number and presence of occupants. Furthermore, this paper critically examines both the strengths and limitations of each technology in predicting occupant behavior. In addition, it explores different methods for processing these data and making future occupancy predictions. Moreover, we highlight some challenges, such as determining the optimal number and location of sensors and radars, and provide a detailed explanation and insights into these challenges. Furthermore, the paper explores possible future directions, including the security of occupants' data and the promotion of energy-efficient practices such as localizing occupants and monitoring their activities within a building. This paper is on the autonomous detection of humans in off-limits mountains. In off-limits mountains, a human rarely exists, thus human detection is an extremely rare event. Due to the advances in artificial intelligence, object detection–classification algorithms based on a Convolution Neural Network (CNN) can be used for this application. However, considering off-limits mountains, there should be no person in general. Thus, it is not desirable to run object detection–classification algorithms continuously, since they are computationally heavy. This paper addresses a time-efficient human detector system, based on both motion detection and object classification. The proposed scheme is to run a motion detection algorithm from time to time. In the camera image, we define a feasible human space where a human can appear. Once motion is detected inside the feasible human space, one enables the object classification, only inside the bounding box where motion is detected. Since motion detection inside the feasible human space runs much faster than an object detection–classification method, the proposed approach is suitable for real-time human detection with low computational loads. As far as we know, no paper in the literature used the feasible human space, as in our paper. The outperformance of our human detector system is verified by comparing it with other state-of-the-art object detection–classification algorithms (HOG detector, YOLOv7 and YOLOv7-tiny) under experiments. This paper demonstrates that the accuracy of the proposed human detector system is comparable to other state-of-the-art algorithms, while outperforming in computational speed. This paper presents a classification model for eye diseases utilizing attention mechanisms to learn features from fundus images and structures. The study focuses on diagnosing glaucoma by extracting retinal vessels and the optic disc from fundus images using a ResU-Net-based segmentation model and Hough Circle Transform, respectively. The extracted structures and preprocessed images were inputted into a CNN-based multi-input model for training. Comparative evaluations demonstrated that our model outperformed other research models in classifying glaucoma, even with a smaller dataset. Ablation studies confirmed that using attention mechanisms to learn fundus structures significantly enhanced performance. The study also highlighted the challenges in normal case classification due to potential feature degradation during structure extraction. Future research will focus on incorporating additional fundus structures such as the macula, refining extraction algorithms, and expanding the types of classified eye diseases. Physical aggression is a serious and widespread problem in society, affecting people worldwide. It impacts nearly every aspect of life. While some studies explore the root causes of violent behavior, others focus on urban planning in high-crime areas. Real-time violence detection, powered by artificial intelligence, offers a direct and efficient solution, reducing the need for extensive human supervision and saving lives. This paper is a continuation of a systematic mapping study and its objective is to provide a comprehensive and up-to-date review of AI-based video violence detection, specifically in physical assaults. Regarding violence detection, the following have been grouped and categorized from the review of the selected papers: 21 challenges that remain to be solved, 28 datasets that have been created in recent years, 21 keyframe extraction methods, 16 types of algorithm inputs, as well as a wide variety of algorithm combinations and their corresponding accuracy results. This paper addresses issues concerning biometric authentication based on handwritten signatures. Our research aimed to check whether a handwritten signature acquired with a mobile device can effectively verify a user's identity. We present a novel online signature verification method using coordinates of points and pressure values at each point collected with a mobile device. Convolutional neural networks are used for signature verification. In this paper, three neural network models are investigated, i.e., two self-made light SigNet and SigNetExt models and the VGG-16 model commonly used in image processing. The convolutional neural networks aim to determine whether the acquired signature sample matches the class declared by the signer. Thus, the scenario of closed set verification is performed. The effectiveness of our method was tested on signatures acquired with mobile phones. We used the subset of the multimodal database, MobiBits, that was captured using a custom-made application and consists of samples acquired from 53 people of diverse ages. The experimental results on accurate data demonstrate that developed architectures of deep neural networks can be successfully used for online handwritten signature verification. The identification of gas leakages is a significant factor to be taken into consideration in various industries such as coal mines, chemical industries, etc., as well as in residential applications. In order to reduce damage to the environment as well as human lives, early detection and gas type identification are necessary. The main focus of this paper is multimodal gas data that were obtained simultaneously by using multiple sensors for gas detection and a thermal imaging camera. As the reliability and sensitivity of low-cost sensors are less, they are not suitable for gas detection over long distances. In order to overcome the drawbacks of relying just on sensors to identify gases, a thermal camera capable of detecting temperature changes is also used in the collection of the current multimodal dataset The multimodal dataset comprises 6400 samples, including smoke, perfume, a combination of both, and neutral environments. In this paper, convolutional neural networks (CNNs) are trained on thermal image data, utilizing variants such as bidirectional long–short-term memory (Bi-LSTM), dense LSTM, and a fusion of both datasets to effectively classify comma separated value (CSV) data from gas sensors. The dataset can be used as a valuable source for research scholars and system developers to improvise their artificial intelligence (AI) models used for gas leakage detection. Furthermore, in order to ensure the privacy of the client's data, this paper explores the implementation of federated learning for privacy-protected gas leakage classification, demonstrating comparable accuracy to traditional deep learning approaches. Recent advancements in vehicle technology have stimulated innovation across the automotive sector, from Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) to autonomous driving and motorsport applications. Modern vehicles, equipped with sensors for perception, localization, navigation, and actuators for autonomous driving, generate vast amounts of data used for training and evaluating autonomous systems. Real-world testing is essential for validation but is complex, expensive, and time-intensive, requiring multiple vehicles and reference systems. To address these challenges, computer graphics-based simulators offer a compelling solution by providing high-fidelity 3D environments to simulate vehicles and road users. These simulators are crucial for developing, validating, and testing ADAS, autonomous driving systems, and cooperative driving systems, and enhancing vehicle performance and driver training in motorsport. This paper reviews computer graphics-based simulators tailored for automotive applications. It begins with an overview of their applications and analyzes their key features. Additionally, this paper compares five open-source (CARLA, AirSim, LGSVL, AWSIM, and DeepDrive) and ten commercial simulators. Our findings indicate that open-source simulators are best for the research community, offering realistic 3D environments, multiple sensor support, APIs, co-simulation, and community support. Anomaly detection systems based on artificial intelligence (AI) have demonstrated high performance and efficiency in a wide range of applications such as power plants and smart factories. However, due to the inherent reliance of AI systems on the quality of training data, they still demonstrate poor performance in certain environments. Especially in hazardous facilities with constrained data collection, deploying these systems remains a challenge. In this paper, we propose Generative Anomaly Detection using Prototypical Networks (GAD-PN) designed to detect anomalies using only a limited number of normal samples. GAD-PN is a structure that integrates CycleGAN with Prototypical Networks (PNs), learning from metadata similar to the target environment. This approach enables the collection of data that are difficult to gather in real-world environments by using simulation or demonstration models, thus providing opportunities to learn a variety of environmental parameters under ideal and normal conditions. During the inference phase, PNs can classify normal and leak samples using only a small number of normal data from the target environment by prototypes that represent normal and abnormal features. We also complement the challenge of collecting anomaly data by generating anomaly data from normal data using CycleGAN trained on anomaly features. It can also be adapted to various environments that have similar anomalous scenarios, regardless of differences in environmental parameters. To validate the proposed structure, data were collected specifically targeting pipe leakage scenarios, which are significant problems in environments such as power plants. In addition, acoustic ultrasound signals were collected from the pipe nozzles in three different environments. As a result, the proposed model achieved a leak detection accuracy of over 90% in all environments, even with only a small number of normal data. Composite materials are increasingly important in making high-performance products. However, contemporary composites manufacturing processes still encounter significant challenges that range from inherent material stochasticity to manufacturing process variabilities. This paper proposes a novel smart Industrial Internet of Things framework, which is also referred to as an Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT) framework for composites manufacturing. This framework improves production performance through real-time process monitoring and AI-based forecasting. It comprises three main components: (i) an array of temperature, heat flux, dielectric, and flow sensors for data acquisition from production machines and products being made, (ii) an IoT-based platform for instantaneous sensor data integration and visualisation, and (iii) an AI-based model for production process forecasting. Via these components, the framework performs real-time production process monitoring, visualisation, and prediction of future process states. Aiming at the problems of target detection models in traffic scenarios including a large number of parameters, heavy computational burden, and high application cost, this paper introduces an enhanced lightweight real-time detection algorithm, which exhibits higher detection speed and accuracy for vehicle detection. This paper considers the YOLOv7 algorithm as the benchmark model, designs a lightweight backbone network, and uses the MobileNetV3 lightweight network to extract target features. Inspired by the structure of SPPF, the spatial pyramid pooling module is reconfigured by incorporating GSConv, and a lightweight SPPFCSPC-GS module is designed, aiming to minimize the quantity of model parameters and enhance the training speed even further. Furthermore, the CA mechanism is integrated to enhance the feature extraction capability of the model. Finally, the MPDIoU loss function is utilized to optimize the model's training process. Experiments showcase that the refined YOLOv7 algorithm can achieve 98.2% mAP on the BIT-Vehicle dataset with 52.8% fewer model parameters than the original model and a 35.2% improvement in FPS. This paper contributes to the development of a Next Generation First Responder (NGFR) communication platform with the key goal of embedding it into a smart city technology infrastructure. The framework of this approach is a concept known as SmartHub, developed by the US Department of Homeland Security. The proposed embedding methodology complies with the standard categories and indicators of smart city performance. This paper offers two practice-centered extensions of the NGFR hub, which are also the main results: first, a cognitive workload monitoring of first responders as a basis for their performance assessment, monitoring, and improvement; and second, a highly sensitive problem of human society, the emergency assistance tools for individuals with disabilities. Both extensions explore various technological-societal dimensions of smart cities, including interoperability, standardization, and accessibility to assistive technologies for people with disabilities. Regarding cognitive workload monitoring, the core result is a novel AI formalism, an ensemble of machine learning processes aggregated using machine reasoning. This ensemble enables predictive situation assessment and self-aware computing, which is the basis of the digital twin concept. We experimentally demonstrate a specific component of a digital twin of an NGFR, a near-real-time monitoring of the NGFR cognitive workload. Regarding our second result, a problem of emergency assistance for individuals with disabilities that originated as accessibility to assistive technologies to promote disability inclusion, we provide the NGFR specification focusing on interactions based on AI formalism and using a unified hub platform. This paper also discusses a technology roadmap using the notion of the Emergency Management Cycle (EMC), a commonly accepted doctrine for managing disasters through the steps of mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery. Oncology has emerged as a crucial field of study in the domain of medicine. Computed tomography has gained widespread adoption as a radiological modality for the identification and characterisation of pathologies, particularly in oncology, enabling precise identification of affected organs and tissues. However, achieving accurate liver segmentation in computed tomography scans remains a challenge due to the presence of artefacts and the varying densities of soft tissues and adjacent organs. This paper compares artificial intelligence algorithms and traditional medical image processing techniques to assist radiologists in liver segmentation in computed tomography scans and evaluates their accuracy and efficiency. Despite notable progress in the field, the limited availability of public datasets remains a significant barrier to broad participation in research studies and replication of methodologies. Future directions should focus on increasing the accessibility of public datasets, establishing standardised evaluation metrics, and advancing the development of three-dimensional segmentation techniques. In addition, maintaining a collaborative relationship between technological advances and medical expertise is essential to ensure that these innovations not only achieve technical accuracy, but also remain aligned with clinical needs and realities. The "Internet-of-Medical-Vehicles (IOMV)" is one of the special applications of the Internet of Things resulting from combining connected healthcare and connected vehicles. As the IOMV communicates with a variety of networks along its travel path, it incurs various security risks due to sophisticated cyber-attacks. This can endanger the onboard patient's life. So, it is critical to understand subjects related to "cybersecurity" in the IOMV to develop robust cybersecurity measures. In this paper, the goal is to evaluate recent trends and state-of-the-art publications, gaps, and future outlooks related to this research area. With this aim, a variety of publications between 2016 and 2023 from "Web-of-Science" and "Scopus" databases were analysed. Our analysis revealed that the IOMV is a niche and unexplored research area with few defined standards and frameworks, and there is a great need to implement robust cybersecurity measures. This paper will help researchers to gain a comprehensive idea of this niche research topic, as it presents an analysis of top journals and highly cited papers, their challenges and limitations, the system model and architecture of the IOMV, related applicable standards, potential cyber-attacks, factors causing cybersecurity risks, various artificial intelligence techniques for developing potential countermeasures, the assessment and parameterisation of cybersecurity risks, constraints and challenges, and future outlooks for implementing cybersecurity measures in the IOMV. Climbing gyms aim to continuously improve their offerings and make the best use of their infrastructure to provide a unique experience for their clients, the climbers. One approach to achieve this goal is to track and analyze climbing sessions from the beginning of the ascent until the climber's descent. Detecting the climber's descent is crucial because it indicates when the ascent has ended. This paper discusses an approach that preserves climber privacy (e.g., not using cameras) while considering the convenience of climbers and the costs to the gyms. To this aim, a hardware prototype has been developed to collect data using accelerometer sensors attached to a piece of climbing equipment mounted on the wall, called a quickdraw, which connects the climbing rope to the bolt anchors. The sensors are configured to be energy-efficient, making them practical in terms of expenses and time required for replacement when used in large quantities in a climbing gym. This paper describes the hardware specifications, studies data measured by the sensors in ultra-low power mode, detects sensors' orientation patterns during descent on different routes, and develops a supervised approach to identify lowering. Additionally, the study emphasizes the benefits of multidisciplinary feature engineering, combining domain-specific knowledge with machine learning to enhance performance and simplify implementation. With the continuous advancement of sensing technology, applying large amounts of sensor data to practical prediction processes using artificial intelligence methods has become a developmental direction. In sensing images and remote sensing meteorological data, the dynamic changes in the prediction targets relative to their background information often exhibit more significant dynamic characteristics. Previous prediction methods did not specifically analyze and study the dynamic change information of prediction targets at spatiotemporal multi-scale. Therefore, this paper proposes a neural prediction network based on perceptual multi-scale spatiotemporal dynamic changes (PMSTD-Net). By designing Multi-Scale Space Motion Change Attention Unit (MCAU) to perceive the local situation and spatial displacement dynamic features of prediction targets at different scales, attention is ensured on capturing the dynamic information in their spatial dimensions adequately. On this basis, this paper proposes Multi-Scale Spatiotemporal Evolution Attention (MSEA) unit, which further integrates the spatial change features perceived by MCAU units in higher channel dimensions, and learns the spatiotemporal evolution characteristics at different scales, effectively predicting the dynamic characteristics and regularities of targets in sensor information.Through experiments on spatiotemporal prediction standard datasets such as Moving MNIST, video prediction dataset KTH, and Human3.6m, PMSTD-Net demonstrates prediction performance surpassing previous methods. We construct the GPM satellite remote sensing precipitation dataset, demonstrating the network's advantages in perceiving multi-scale spatiotemporal dynamic changes in remote sensing meteorological data. With the transformation and development of the automotive industry, low-cost and seamless indoor and outdoor positioning has become a research hotspot for modern vehicles equipped with in-vehicle infotainment systems, Internet of Vehicles, or other intelligent systems (such as Telematics Box, Autopilot, etc.). This paper analyzes modern vehicles in different configurations and proposes a low-cost, versatile indoor non-visual semantic mapping and localization solution based on low-cost sensors. Firstly, the sliding window-based semantic landmark detection method is designed to identify non-visual semantic landmarks (e.g., entrance/exit, ramp entrance/exit, road node). Then, we construct an indoor non-visual semantic map that includes the vehicle trajectory waypoints, non-visual semantic landmarks, and Wi-Fi fingerprints of RSS features. Furthermore, to estimate the position of modern vehicles in the constructed semantic maps, we proposed a graph-optimized localization method based on landmark matching that exploits the correlation between non-visual semantic landmarks. Finally, field experiments are conducted in two shopping mall scenes with different underground parking layouts to verify the proposed non-visual semantic mapping and localization method. The results show that the proposed method achieves a high accuracy of 98.1% in non-visual semantic landmark detection and a low localization error of 1.31 m. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

With the maturity of artificial intelligence (AI) technology, applications of AI in edge computing will greatly promote the development of industrial technology. However, the existing studies on the edge computing framework for the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) still face several challenges, such as deep hardware and software coupling, diverse protocols, difficult deployment of AI models, insufficient computing capabilities of edge devices, and sensitivity to delay and energy consumption. To solve the above problems, this paper proposes a software-defined AI-oriented three-layer IIoT edge computing framework and presents the design and implementation of an AI-oriented edge computing system, aiming to support device access, enable the acceptance and deployment of AI models from the cloud, and allow the whole process from data acquisition to model training to be completed at the edge. In addition, this paper proposes a time series-based method for device selection and computation offloading in the federated learning process, which selectively offloads the tasks of inefficient nodes to the edge computing center to reduce the training delay and energy consumption. Finally, experiments carried out to verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method are reported. The model training time with the proposed method is generally 30% to 50% less than that with the random device selection method, and the training energy consumption under the proposed method is generally 35% to 55% less. This review explores the historical and current significance of gestures as a universal form of communication with a focus on hand gestures in virtual reality applications. It highlights the evolution of gesture detection systems from the 1990s, which used computer algorithms to find patterns in static images, to the present day where advances in sensor technology, artificial intelligence, and computing power have enabled real-time gesture recognition. The paper emphasizes the role of hand gestures in virtual reality (VR), a field that creates immersive digital experiences through the Ma blending of 3D modeling, sound effects, and sensing technology. This review presents state-of-the-art hardware and software techniques used in hand gesture detection, primarily for VR applications. It discusses the challenges in hand gesture detection, classifies gestures as static and dynamic, and grades their detection difficulty. This paper also reviews the haptic devices used in VR and their advantages and challenges. Visual simultaneous localization and mapping (VSLAM) enhances the navigation of autonomous agents in unfamiliar environments by progressively constructing maps and estimating poses. However, conventional VSLAM pipelines often exhibited degraded performance in dynamic environments featuring mobile objects. Recent research in deep learning led to notable progress in semantic segmentation, which involves assigning semantic labels to image pixels. The integration of semantic segmentation into VSLAM can effectively differentiate between static and dynamic elements in intricate scenes. This paper provided a comprehensive comparative review on leveraging semantic segmentation to improve major components of VSLAM, including visual odometry, loop closure detection, and environmental mapping. Key principles and methods for both traditional VSLAM and deep semantic segmentation were introduced. This paper presented an overview and comparative analysis of the technical implementations of semantic integration across various modules of the VSLAM pipeline. Furthermore, it examined the features and potential use cases associated with the fusion of VSLAM and semantics. It was found that the existing VSLAM model continued to face challenges related to computational complexity. Promising future research directions were identified, including efficient model design, multimodal fusion, online adaptation, dynamic scene reconstruction, and end-to-end joint optimization. This review shed light on the emerging paradigm of semantic VSLAM and how deep learning-enabled semantic reasoning could unlock new capabilities for autonomous intelligent systems to operate reliably in the real world. The introduction of fifth-generation (5G) mobile networks leads to an increase in energy consumption and higher operational costs for mobile network operators (MNOs). Consequently, the optimization of 5G networks' energy efficiency is crucial, both in terms of reducing MNO costs and in terms of the negative environmental impact. However, many aspects of the 5G mobile network technology itself have been standardized, including the 5G network slicing concept. This enables the creation of multiple independent logical 5G networks within the same physical infrastructure. Since the only necessary resources in 5G networks need to be used for the realization of a specific 5G network slice, the question of whether the implementation of 5G network slicing can contribute to the improvement of 5G and future sixth-generation networks' energy efficiency arises. To tackle this question, this review paper analyzes 5G network slicing and the energy demand of different network slicing use cases and mobile virtual network operator realizations based on network slicing. The paper also overviews standardized key performance indicators for the assessment of 5G network slices' energy efficiency and discusses energy efficiency in 5G network slicing lifecycle management. This paper explores the development of a smart Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) platform tailored for long-span bridge monitoring, using the Forth Road Bridge (FRB) as a case study. It discusses the selection of smart sensors available for real-time monitoring, the formulation of an effective data strategy encompassing the collection, processing, management, analysis, and visualization of monitoring data sets to support decision-making, and the establishment of a cost-effective and intelligent sensor network aligned with the objectives set through comprehensive communication with asset owners. This paper surveys the implementation of blockchain technology in cybersecurity in Internet of Things (IoT) networks, presenting a comprehensive framework that integrates blockchain technology with intrusion detection systems (IDS) to enhance IDS performance. Smart healthcare is altering the delivery of healthcare by combining the benefits of IoT, mobile, and cloud computing. Cloud computing has tremendously helped the health industry connect healthcare facilities, caregivers, and patients for information sharing. Thus, quick responses among healthcare organizations are important in general, but in an emergency, significant latency at different stakeholders might result in disastrous situations. The combination of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and artificial intelligence is significant and is a key topic in recent substation inspection applications; and meter reading is one of the challenging tasks. This paper proposes a method based on the combination of YOLOv5s object detection and Deeplabv3+ image segmentation to obtain meter readings through the post-processing of segmented images. Firstly, YOLOv5s was introduced to detect the meter dial area and the meter was classified. Following this, the detected and classified images were passed to the image segmentation algorithm. The backbone network of the Deeplabv3+ algorithm was improved by using the MobileNetv2 network, and the model size was reduced on the premise that the effective extraction of tick marks and pointers was ensured. To account for the inaccurate reading of the meter, the divided pointer and scale area were corroded first, and then the concentric circle sampling method was used to flatten the circular dial area into a rectangular area. Several analog meter readings were calculated by flattening the area scale distance. The experimental results show that the mean average precision of 50 (mAP50) of the YOLOv5s model with this method in this data set reached 99.58%, that the single detection speed reached 22.2 ms, and that the mean intersection over union (mIoU) of the image segmentation model reached 78.92%, 76.15%, 79.12%, 81.17%, and 75.73%, respectively. The single segmentation speed reached 35.1 ms. At the same time, the effects of various commonly used detection and segmentation algorithms on the recognition of meter readings were compared. Insulators are an important part of transmission lines in active distribution networks, and their performance has an impact on the power system's normal operation, security, and dependability. Traditional insulator detection methods, on the other hand, necessitate a significant amount of labor and material resources, necessitating the development of a new detection method to substitute manpower. This paper investigates the abnormal condition detection of insulators based on UAV vision sensors using artificial intelligence algorithms from small samples. Firstly, artificial intelligence for the image data volume requirements was large, i.e., the insulator image samples taken by the UAV vision sensor inspection were not enough, or there was a missing image problem, so the data enhancement method was used to expand the small sample data. Then, the YOLOV5 algorithm was used to compare detection results before and after the extended dataset's optimization to demonstrate the expanded dataset's dependability and universality, and the results revealed that the expanded dataset improved detection accuracy and precision. To solve this problem, a new absolute matrix encoder is proposed in this paper, which can realize 19-bit matrix coding by engraving two circles of matrix code, and has the advantages of fewer circles of code disk engraving and higher measurement accuracy. This paper presents a computer vision-based approach to chronic subdural hematoma segmentation that can be performed by one click. Chronic subdural hematoma is estimated to occur in 0.002–0.02% of the general population each year and the risk increases with age, with a high frequency of about 0.05–0.06% in people aged 70 years and above. In our research, we developed our own dataset, which includes 53 series of CT scans collected from 21 patients with one or two hematomas. Based on the dataset, we trained two neural network models based on U-Net architecture to automate the manual segmentation process. One of the models performed segmentation based only on the current frame, while the other additionally processed multiple adjacent images to provide context, a technique that is more similar to the behavior of a doctor. We used a 10-fold cross-validation technique to better estimate the developed models' efficiency. We used the Dice metric for segmentation accuracy estimation, which was 0.77. Also, for testing our approach, we used scans from five additional patients who did not form part of the dataset, and created a scenario in which three medical experts carried out a hematoma segmentation before we carried out segmentation using our best model. We developed the OsiriX DICOM Viewer plugin to implement our solution into the segmentation process. We compared the segmentation time, which was more than seven times faster using the one-click approach, and the experts agreed that the segmentation quality was acceptable for clinical usage. In this paper, we present the implementation of an artificial intelligence health assistant designed to complement a previously built eHealth data acquisition system for helping both patients and medical staff. The assistant allows users to query medical information in a smarter, more natural way, respecting patient privacy and using secure communications through a chat style interface based on the Matrix decentralized open protocol. Assistant responses are constructed locally by an interchangeable large language model (LLM) that can form rich and complete answers like most human medical staff would. Restricted access to patient information and other related resources is provided to the LLM through various methods for it to be able to respond correctly based on specific patient data. Wearable technologies represent a significant advancement in facilitating communication between humans and machines. Powered by artificial intelligence (AI), human gestures detected by wearable sensors can provide people with seamless interaction with physical, digital, and mixed environments. In this paper, the foundations of a gesture-recognition framework for the teleoperation of infrared consumer electronics are established. This framework is based on force myography data of the upper forearm, acquired from a prototype novel soft pressure-based force myography (pFMG) armband. Here, the sub-processes of the framework are detailed, including the acquisition of infrared and force myography data; pre-processing; feature construction/selection; classifier selection; post-processing; and interfacing/actuation. The gesture recognition system is evaluated using 12 subjects' force myography data obtained whilst performing five classes of gestures. Our results demonstrate an inter-session and inter-trial gesture average recognition accuracy of approximately 92.2% and 88.9%, respectively. The gesture recognition framework was successfully able to teleoperate several infrared consumer electronics as a wearable, safe and affordable human–machine interface system. The contribution of this study centres around proposing and demonstrating a user-centred design methodology to allow direct human–machine interaction and interface for applications where humans and devices are in the same loop or coexist, as typified between users and infrared-communicating devices in this study. Fifth-generation mobile networks (5G) are designed to support enhanced Mobile Broadband, Ultra-Reliable Low-Latency Communications, and massive Machine-Type Communications. To meet these diverse needs, 5G uses technologies like network softwarization, network slicing, and artificial intelligence. Multi-connectivity is crucial for boosting mobile device performance by using different Wireless Access Technologies (WATs) simultaneously, enhancing throughput, reducing latency, and improving reliability. This paper presents a multi-connectivity testbed from the 5G-CLARITY project for performance evaluation. MultiPath TCP (MPTCP) was employed to enable mobile devices to send data through various WATs simultaneously. A new MPTCP scheduler was developed, allowing operators to better control traffic distribution across different technologies and maximize aggregated throughput. Our proposal mitigates the impact of limitations on one path affecting others, avoiding the Head-of-Line blocking problem. Performance was tested with real equipment using 5GNR, Wi-Fi, and LiFi —complementary WATs in the 5G-CLARITY project—in both static and dynamic scenarios. The results demonstrate that the proposed scheduler can manage the traffic distribution across different WATs and achieve the combined capacities of these technologies, approximately 1.4 Gbps in our tests, outperforming the other MPTCP schedulers. Artificial intelligence technologies are becoming increasingly prevalent in resource-constrained, safety-critical embedded systems. Numerous methods exist to enhance the resilience of AI systems against disruptive influences. However, when resources are limited, ensuring cost-effective resilience becomes crucial. A promising approach for reducing the resource consumption of AI systems during test-time involves applying the concepts and methods of dynamic neural networks. Nevertheless, the resilience of dynamic neural networks against various disturbances remains underexplored. This paper proposes a model architecture and training method that integrate dynamic neural networks with a focus on resilience. Compared to conventional training methods, the proposed approach yields a 24% increase in the resilience of convolutional networks and a 19.7% increase in the resilience of visual transformers under fault injections. Additionally, it results in a 16.9% increase in the resilience of convolutional network ResNet-110 and a 21.6% increase in the resilience of visual transformer DeiT-S under adversarial attacks, while saving more than 30% of computational resources. In recent years, artificial intelligence technology has seen increasingly widespread application in the field of intelligent manufacturing, particularly with deep learning offering novel methods for recognizing geometric shapes with specific features. In traditional CNC machining, computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) typically generates G-code for specific machine tools based on existing models. However, the tool paths for most CNC machines consist of a series of collinear motion commands (G01), which often result in discontinuities in the curvature of adjacent tool paths, leading to machining defects. To address these issues, this paper proposes a method for CNC system machining trajectory feature recognition and path optimization based on intelligent agents. This method employs intelligent agents to construct models and analyze the key geometric information in the G-code generated during CNC machining, and it uses the MCRL deep learning model incorporating linear attention mechanisms and multiple neural networks for recognition and classification. Path optimization is then carried out using mean filtering, Bézier curve fitting, and an improved novel adaptive coati optimization algorithm (NACOA) according to the degree of unsmoothness of the path. The effectiveness of the proposed method is validated through the optimization of process files for gear models, pentagram bosses, and maple leaf models. The research results indicate that the CNC system machining trajectory feature recognition and path optimization method based on intelligent agents can significantly enhance the smoothness of CNC machining paths and reduce machining defects, offering substantial application value. In this paper, we present a noise-robust approach for the 3D pose estimation of multiple people using appearance similarity. The common methods identify the cross-view correspondences between the detected keypoints and determine their association with a specific person by measuring the distances between the epipolar lines and the joint locations of the 2D keypoints across all the views. Although existing methods achieve remarkable accuracy, they are still sensitive to camera calibration, making them unsuitable for noisy environments where any of the cameras slightly change angle or position. To address these limitations and fix camera calibration error in real-time, we propose a framework for 3D pose estimation which uses appearance similarity. In the proposed framework, we detect the 2D keypoints and extract the appearance feature and transfer it to the central server. The central server uses geometrical affinity and appearance similarity to match the detected 2D human poses to each person. Then, it compares these two groups to identify calibration errors. If a camera with the wrong calibration is identified, the central server fixes the calibration error, ensuring accuracy in the 3D reconstruction of skeletons. In the experimental environment, we verified that the proposed algorithm is robust against false geometrical errors. The pernicious impact of malicious Slow DoS (Denial of Service) attacks on the application layer and web-based Open Systems Interconnection model services like Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) has given impetus to a range of novel detection strategies, many of which use machine learning (ML) for computationally intensive full packet capture and post-event processing. In contrast, existing detection mechanisms, such as those found in various approaches including ML, artificial intelligence, and neural networks neither facilitate real-time detection nor consider the computational overhead within resource-constrained Internet of Things (IoT) networks. Slow DoS attacks are notoriously difficult to reliably identify, as they masquerade as legitimate application layer traffic, often resembling nodes with slow or intermittent connectivity. This means they often evade detection mechanisms because they appear as genuine node activity, which increases the likelihood of mistakenly being granted access by intrusion-detection systems. The original contribution of this paper is an innovative Guardian Node (GN) Slow DoS detection model, which analyses the two key network attributes of packet length and packet delta time in real time within a live IoT network. By designing the GN to operate within a narrow window of packet length and delta time values, accurate detection of all three main Slow DoS variants is achieved, even under the stealthiest malicious attack conditions. A unique feature of the GN model is its ability to reliably discriminate Slow DoS attack traffic from both genuine and slow nodes experiencing high latency or poor connectivity. A rigorous critical evaluation has consistently validated high, real-time detection accuracies of more than 98% for the GN model across a range of demanding traffic profiles. This performance is analogous to existing ML approaches, whilst being significantly more resource efficient, with computational and storage overheads being over 96% lower than full packet capture techniques, so it represents a very attractive alternative for deployment in resource-scarce IoT environments. Artificial intelligence and Internet of Things are playing an increasingly important role in monitoring beehives. In this paper, we propose a method for automatic recognition of honeybee type by analyzing the sound generated by worker bees and drone bees during their flight close to an entrance to a beehive. We conducted a wide comparative study to determine the most effective preprocessing of audio signals for the detection problem. We compared the results for several different methods for signal representation in the frequency domain, including mel-frequency cepstral coefficients (MFCCs), gammatone cepstral coefficients (GTCCs), the multiple signal classification method (MUSIC) and parametric estimation of power spectral density (PSD) by the Burg algorithm. The coefficients serve as inputs for an autoencoder neural network to discriminate drone bees from worker bees. The classification is based on the reconstruction error of the signal representations produced by the autoencoder. We propose a novel approach to class separation by the autoencoder neural network with various thresholds between decision areas, including the maximum likelihood threshold for the reconstruction error. By classifying real-life signals, we demonstrated that it is possible to differentiate drone bees and worker bees based solely on audio signals. In the era of ubiquitous computing, the challenges imposed by the increasing demand for real-time data processing, security, and energy efficiency call for innovative solutions. The emergence of fog computing has provided a promising paradigm to address these challenges by bringing computational resources closer to data sources. Despite its advantages, the fog computing characteristics pose challenges in heterogeneous environments in terms of resource allocation and management, provisioning, security, and connectivity, among others. This paper introduces COGNIFOG, a novel cognitive fog framework currently under development, which was designed to leverage intelligent, decentralized decision-making processes, machine learning algorithms, and distributed computing principles to enable the autonomous operation, adaptability, and scalability across the IoT–edge–cloud continuum. By integrating cognitive capabilities, COGNIFOG is expected to increase the efficiency and reliability of next-generation computing environments, potentially providing a seamless bridge between the physical and digital worlds. Preliminary experimental results with a limited set of connectivity-related COGNIFOG building blocks show promising improvements in network resource utilization in a real-world-based IoT scenario. The primary objective of the research presented in this article is to introduce an artificial neural network that demands less computational power than a conventional deep neural network. The development of this ANN was achieved through the application of Ordered Fuzzy Numbers (OFNs). In this paper, a novel deep learning method Mamba-RAYOLO is presented, which can improve detection and classification in the processing and analysis of ECG images in real time by integrating three advanced modules. The feature extraction module in our work with a multi-branch structure during training can capture a wide range of features to ensure efficient inference and rich feature extraction. The attention mechanism module utilized in our proposed network can dynamically focus on the most relevant spatial and channel-wise features to improve detection accuracy and computational efficiency. Then, the extracted features can be refined for efficient spatial feature processing and robust feature fusion. Several sets of experiments have been carried out to test the validity of the proposed Mamba-RAYOLO and these indicate that our method has made significant improvements in the detection and classification of ECG images. The number of connected devices or Internet of Things (IoT) devices has rapidly increased. According to the latest available statistics, in 2023, there were approximately 17.2 billion connected IoT devices; this is expected to reach 25.4 billion IoT devices by 2030 and grow year over year for the foreseeable future. IoT devices share, collect, and exchange data via the internet, wireless networks, or other networks with one another. IoT interconnection technology improves and facilitates people's lives but, at the same time, poses a real threat to their security. Denial-of-Service (DoS) and Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks are considered the most common and threatening attacks that strike IoT devices' security. These are considered to be an increasing trend, and it will be a major challenge to reduce risk, especially in the future. In this context, this paper presents an improved framework (SDN-ML-IoT) that works as an Intrusion and Prevention Detection System (IDPS) that could help to detect DDoS attacks with more efficiency and mitigate them in real time. This SDN-ML-IoT uses a Machine Learning (ML) method in a Software-Defined Networking (SDN) environment in order to protect smart home IoT devices from DDoS attacks. We employed an ML method based on Random Forest (RF), Logistic Regression (LR), k-Nearest Neighbors (kNN), and Naive Bayes (NB) with a One-versus-Rest (OvR) strategy and then compared our work to other related works. Based on the performance metrics, such as confusion matrix, training time, prediction time, accuracy, and Area Under the Receiver Operating Characteristic curve (AUC-ROC), it was established that SDN-ML-IoT, when applied to RF, outperforms other ML algorithms, as well as similar approaches related to our work. It had an impressive accuracy of 99.99%, and it could mitigate DDoS attacks in less than 3 s. We conducted a comparative analysis of various models and algorithms used in the related works. The results indicated that our proposed approach outperforms others, showcasing its effectiveness in both detecting and mitigating DDoS attacks within SDNs. Based on these promising results, we have opted to deploy SDN-ML-IoT within the SDN. In this paper, artificial intelligence (AI) technology is applied to the electromagnetic imaging of anisotropic objects. Advances in magnetic anomaly sensing systems and electromagnetic imaging use electromagnetic principles to detect and characterize subsurface or hidden objects. We use measured multifrequency scattered fields to calculate the initial dielectric constant distribution of anisotropic objects through the backpropagation scheme (BPS). Later, the estimated multifrequency permittivity distribution is input to a convolutional neural network (CNN) for the adaptive moment estimation (ADAM) method to reconstruct a more accurate image. In the meantime, we also improve the definition of loss function in the CNN. Numerical results show that the improved loss function unifying the structural similarity index measure (SSIM) and root mean square error (RMSE) can effectively enhance image quality. In our simulation environment, noise interference is considered for both TE (transverse electric) and TM (transverse magnetic) waves to reconstruct anisotropic scatterers. Personal protective equipment (PPE) has been universally recognized for its role in protecting workers from injuries and illnesses. Smart PPE integrates Internet of Things (IoT) technologies to enable continuous monitoring of workers and their surrounding environment, preventing undesirable events, facilitating rapid emergency response, and informing rescuers of potential hazards. This work presents a smart PPE system with a sensor node architecture designed to monitor workers and their surroundings. The sensor node is equipped with various sensors and communication capabilities, enabling the monitoring of specific gases (VOC, CO2, CO, O2), particulate matter (PM), temperature, humidity, positional information, audio signals, and body gestures. The system utilizes artificial intelligence algorithms to recognize patterns in worker activity that could lead to risky situations. Gas tests were conducted in a special chamber, positioning capabilities were tested indoors and outdoors, and the remaining sensors were tested in a simulated laboratory environment. This paper presents the sensor node architecture and the results of tests on target risky scenarios. Computer Vision (CV) has become increasingly important for Single-Board Computers (SBCs) due to their widespread deployment in addressing real-world problems. Specifically, in the context of smart cities, there is an emerging trend of developing end-to-end video analytics solutions designed to address urban challenges such as traffic management, disaster response, and waste management. However, deploying CV solutions on SBCs presents several pressing challenges (e.g., limited computation power, inefficient energy management, and real-time processing needs) hindering their use at scale. Graphical Processing Units (GPUs) and software-level developments have emerged recently in addressing these challenges to enable the elevated performance of SBCs; however, it is still an active area of research. There is a gap in the literature for a comprehensive review of such recent and rapidly evolving advancements on both software and hardware fronts. The presented review provides a detailed overview of the existing GPU-accelerated edge-computing SBCs and software advancements including algorithm optimization techniques, packages, development frameworks, and hardware deployment specific packages. This review provides a subjective comparative analysis based on critical factors to help applied Artificial Intelligence (AI) researchers in demonstrating the existing state of the art and selecting the best suited combinations for their specific use-case. Chip pad inspection is of great practical importance for chip alignment inspection and correction. It is one of the key technologies for automated chip inspection in semiconductor manufacturing. When applying deep learning methods for chip pad inspection, the main problem to be solved is how to ensure the accuracy of small target pad detection and, at the same time, achieve a lightweight inspection model. The attention mechanism is widely used to improve the accuracy of small target detection by finding the attention region of the network. However, conventional attention mechanisms capture feature information locally, which makes it difficult to effectively improve the detection efficiency of small targets from complex backgrounds in target detection tasks. In this paper, an OCAM (Object Convolution Attention Module) attention module is proposed to build long-range dependencies between channel features and position features by constructing feature contextual relationships to enhance the correlation between features. By adding the OCAM attention module to the feature extraction layer of the YOLOv5 network, the detection performance of chip pads is effectively improved. In addition, a design guideline for the attention layer is proposed in the paper. The attention layer is adjusted by network scaling to avoid network characterization bottlenecks, balance network parameters, and network detection performance, and reduce the hardware device requirements for the improved YOLOv5 network in practical scenarios. Extensive experiments on chip pad datasets, VOC datasets, and COCO datasets show that the approach in this paper is more general and superior to several state-of-the-art methods. With the increasing growth rate of smart home devices and their interconnectivity via the Internet of Things (IoT), security threats to the communication network have become a concern. This paper proposes a learning engine for a smart home communication network that utilizes blockchain-based secure communication and a cloud-based data evaluation layer to segregate and rank data on the basis of three broad categories of Transactions (T), namely Smart T, Mod T, and Avoid T. The learning engine utilizes a neural network for the training and classification of the categories that helps the blockchain layer with improvisation in the decision-making process. The contributions of this paper include the application of a secure blockchain layer for user authentication and the generation of a ledger for the communication network; the utilization of the cloud-based data evaluation layer; the enhancement of an SI-based algorithm for training; and the utilization of a neural engine for the precise training and classification of categories. The proposed algorithm outperformed the Fused Real-Time Sequential Deep Extreme Learning Machine (RTS-DELM) system, the data fusion technique, and artificial intelligence Internet of Things technology in providing electronic information engineering and analyzing optimization schemes in terms of the computation complexity, false authentication rate, and qualitative parameters with a lower average computation complexity; in addition, it ensures a secure, efficient smart home communication network to enhance the lifestyle of human beings. Nowadays, artificial intelligence is used everywhere in the world and is becoming a key factor for innovation and progress in many areas of human life. From medicine to industry to consumer electronics, its influence is ever-expanding and permeates all aspects of our modern society. This article presents the use of artificial intelligence (prediction) for the control of three motors used for effector control in a spherical parallel kinematic structure of a designed device. The kinematic model used was the "Agile eye" which can achieve high dynamics and has three degrees of freedom. A prototype of this device was designed and built, on which experiments were carried out in the framework of motor control. As the prototype was created through the means of the available equipment (3D printing and lathe), the clearances of the kinematic mechanism were made and then calibrated through prediction. The paper also presents a method for motor control calibration. On the one hand, using AI is an efficient way to achieve higher precision in positioning the optical axis of the effector. On the other hand, such calibration would be rendered unnecessary if the clearances and inaccuracies in the mechanism could be eliminated mechanically. The device was designed with imperfections such as clearances in mind so the effectiveness of the calibration could be tested and evaluated. The resulting control of the achieved movements of the axis of the device (effector) took place when obtaining the exact location of the tracked point. There are several methods for controlling the motors of mechatronic devices (e.g., Matlab-Simscape). This paper presents an experiment performed to verify the possibility of controlling the kinematic mechanism through neural networks and eliminating inaccuracies caused by imprecisely produced mechanical parts.
