Due to the scheme of fixed-platform beam-steering radar and the space of the blast furnace being subjected to harsh environmental influences, the traditional detection methods of burden surface are limited by geometric distortion, noncoherent clutter, and noise interference, which leads to an increase in the image entropy value and the equivalent number of views, makes the density distribution of burden surface show a diffuse state, and greatly affects the stability and accuracy. In this paper, a new fixed-platform beam-steering radar synthetic aperture radar imaging method (FPBS-SAR) is proposed in the sensory domain of the blast furnace environment. From the perspective of fixed-platform beam-steering radar motion characteristics, the target range–azimuth coupled distance history model under the sub-aperture is established, the azimuthal Doppler variation characteristics of the fixed-platform beam-steering process are analyzed, and the compensation function of the transform domain for geometric disturbance correction is proposed. For noncoherent noise suppression in blast furnaces, the trimmed geometric mean-order-likelihood CFAR method is proposed to take into account the information of burden surface and clutter suppression. To verify the method, point target simulation and imaging for the industrial field measurement data are carried out. The results indicate that geometric distortion is well eliminated, the image entropy value and the equivalent number of views have decreased, and noncoherent noise in blast furnaces is suppressed. As the variety of space targets expands, two-dimensional (2D) ISAR images prove insufficient for target recognition, necessitating the extraction of three-dimensional (3D) information. The 3D geometry reconstruction method utilizing energy accumulation of ISAR image sequence (ISEA) facilitates superior reconstruction while circumventing the laborious steps associated with factorization methods. Nevertheless, ISEA's neglect of valid information necessitates a high quantity of images and elongated operation times. This paper introduces a partitioned parallel 3D reconstruction method utilizing sorted-energy semi-accumulation with ISAR image sequences (PP-ISEA) to address these limitations. The PP-ISEA innovatively incorporates a two-step search pattern—coarse and fine—that enhances search efficiency and conserves computational resources. It introduces a novel objective function 'sorted-energy semi-accumulation' to discern genuine scatterers from spurious ones and establishes a redundant point exclusion module. Experiments on the scatterer model and simulated electromagnetic model demonstrate that the PP-ISEA reduces the minimum image requirement from ten to four for high-quality scatterer model reconstruction, thereby offering superior reconstruction quality in less time. In order to achieve the remote application of inverse synthetic aperture laser radar for high resolution spatial situational awareness, it is essential to analyze the main factors that restrict its remote application. This study combines the range equation of inverse synthetic aperture lidar with the stimulated Brillouin threshold power equation to investigate the variation of laser transmitting power with distance. Additionally, by utilizing the excited Brillouin threshold power equation, laser linewidth formula, and pulse width characteristics of pulse signal, we examine the variation law of laser coherence that meets corresponding power requirements at different distances. The results indicate that a detection distance of 22 km and below can be achieved using continuous fiber lasers without compensation. Coherence compensation is necessary for distances between 22 km and 57 km. For distances ranging from 57 km to 3000 km, pulsed solid-state lasers are used to analyze coherence and conclude that imaging non-cooperative targets within this range is feasible. It is observed that coherence compensation is required from 57 km to 2179 km, becoming more challenging after 2000 km. Furthermore, pulsed solid-state lasers can still be utilized for imaging cooperative targets within a range of 2179–3273 km; however, coherence compensation remains necessary and becomes increasingly difficult. Finally, several coherent length compensation schemes are proposed in order to extend the imaging range of inverse synthetic aperture LiDAR to approximately 3000 km. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

High-resolution and wide-swath (HRWS) synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imaging with azimuth multi-channel always suffers from channel phase and amplitude errors. Compared with spatial-invariant error, the range-dependent channel phase error is intractable due to its spatial dependency characteristic. This paper proposes a novel parameterized channel equalization approach to reconstruct the unambiguous SAR imagery. First, a linear model is established for the range-dependent channel phase error, and the sharpness of the reconstructed Doppler spectrum is used to measure the unambiguity quality. Furthermore, the intrinsic relationship between the channel phase errors and the sharpness is revealed, which allows us to estimate the optimal parameters by maximizing the sharpness of the reconstructed Doppler spectrum. A novel image-reconstruction method is proposed for the processing of data acquired at random spatial positions. The images are reconstructed and updated in real time concurrently with the measurements to produce an evolving image, the quality of which is continuously improving and converging as the number of data points increases with the stream of additional measurements. It is shown that the images converge to those obtained with data acquired on a uniformly sampled surface, where the sampling density satisfies the Nyquist limit. The image reconstruction employs a new formulation of the method of scattered power mapping (SPM), which first maps the data into a three-dimensional (3D) preliminary image of the target on a uniform spatial grid, followed by fast Fourier space image deconvolution that provides the high-quality 3D image. Spaceborne synthetic aperture radar (SAR) is an advanced microwave imaging technology that provides all-weather and all-day target information. However, as spaceborne SAR resolution improves, traditional echo signal models based on airborne SAR design become inadequate due to the curved orbit, Earth rotation, and increased propagation distance. In this study, we propose an accurate range model for high-resolution spaceborne SAR by analyzing motion trajectory and Doppler parameters from the perspective of the space geometry of spaceborne SAR. We evaluate the accuracy of existing range models and propose an advanced equivalent squint range model (AESRM) that accurately fits the actual range history and compensates for high-order term errors by introducing third-order and fourth-order error terms while maintaining the simplicity of the traditional model. The proposed AESRM's concise two-dimensional frequency spectrum form facilitates the design of imaging algorithms. Point target simulations confirm the effectiveness of the proposed AESRM, demonstrating significant improvements in fitting accuracy for range histories characterized by nonlinear trajectories. Multistatic synthetic aperture radar (SAR) is a special mode of SAR system. The radar transmitter and receiver are located on different satellites, which brings many advantages, such as flexible baseline configuration, diverse receiving modes, and more detailed ground object classification information. The multistatic SAR has been widely used in interferometry, moving target detection, three-dimensional imaging, and other fields. The frequency offset between different oscillators will cause a modulation phase error in the signal. Therefore, phase synchronization is one of the most critical problems to be addressed in distributed SAR systems. This article reviews phase synchronization techniques, which are mainly divided into two methods: synchronization by direct microwave link and synchronization by a data-based estimation algorithm. With the rapidly growing interest in using structural timber, a need exists to inspect and assess these structures using non-destructive testing (NDT). This review article summarizes NDT methods for wood inspection. After an overview of the most important NDT methods currently used, a detailed review of Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and Ultrasonic Testing (UST) is presented. These two techniques can be applied in situ and produce useful visual representations for quantitative assessments and damage detection. With its commercial availability and portability, GPR can help rapidly identify critical features such as moisture, voids, and metal connectors in wood structures. UST, which effectively detects deep cracks, delaminations, and variations in ultrasonic wave velocity related to moisture content, complements GPR's capabilities. The non-destructive nature of both techniques preserves the structural integrity of timber, enabling thorough assessments without compromising integrity and durability. Techniques such as the Synthetic Aperture Focusing Technique (SAFT) and Total Focusing Method (TFM) allow for reconstructing images that an inspector can readily interpret for quantitative assessment. The development of new sensors, instruments, and analysis techniques has continued to improve the application of GPR and UST on wood. However, due to the hon-homogeneous anisotropic properties of this complex material, challenges remain to quantify defects and characterize inclusions reliably and accurately. By integrating advanced imaging algorithms that consider the material's complex properties, combining measurements with simulations, and employing machine learning techniques, the implementation and application of GPR and UST imaging and damage detection for wood structures can be further advanced. In synthetic aperture radar (SAR) signal processing, compared with the raw data of level-0, level-1 SAR images are more readily accessible and available in larger quantities. However, an amount of level-1 images are affected by radio frequency interference (RFI), which typically originates from Linear Frequency Modulation (LFM) signals emitted by ground-based radars. Existing research on interference suppression in level-1 data has primarily focused on two methods: transforming SAR images into simulated echo data for interference suppression, or focusing interference in the frequency domain and applying notching filters to reduce interference energy. However, these methods overlook the effective utilization of the interference parameters or are confined to suppressing only one type of LFM interference at a time. In certain SAR images, multiple types of LFM interference manifest bright radiation artifacts that exhibit varying lengths along the range direction while remaining constant in the azimuth direction. It is necessary to suppress multiple LFM interference on SAR images when original echo data are unavailable. This article proposes a joint sparse recovery algorithm for interference suppression in the SAR image domain. In the SAR image domain, two-dimensional LFM interference typically exhibits differences in parameters such as frequency modulation rate and pulse width in the range direction, while maintaining consistency in the azimuth direction. Based on this observation, this article constructs a series of focusing operators for LFM interference in SAR images. These operators enable the sparse representation of dispersed LFM interference. Subsequently, an optimization model is developed that can effectively suppress multi-LFM interference and reduce image loss with the assistance of a regularization term in the image domain. Compared to conventional radars, arc array synthetic aperture radar (SAR) enables wide-area observation under ideal conditions. However, helicopters carrying arc array SAR platforms are generally smaller in size and more sensitive to vibration, which has a greater impact on the imaging quality. In this paper, the vibration error of the arc array SAR platform is investigated, and a vibration error model of the arc array SAR platform is established. Based on the study of the vibration error model, a vibration phase estimation and compensation algorithm based on the delayed conjugate multiplication method is proposed. In the first step, distance pulse pressure processing is performed on the echo signal. In the second step, the pulse pressure signals and their delays in the same distance unit are subjected to conjugate multiplication, and the phase of the signal after conjugate multiplication is extracted. The extracted phase is then amplitude- and phase-compensated to estimate the vibration phase. In the third step, the vibration phase is compensated in the azimuthal direction of the distance pulse pressure signal, and the pairwise echo is eliminated, which completes the compensation of the airborne arc array SAR vibration platform. With the acceleration of urbanisation, urban areas are subject to the combined effects of the accumulation of various natural factors, such as changes in temperature leading to the thermal expansion or contraction of surface materials (rock, soil, etc.) and changes in precipitation and humidity leading to an increase in the self-weight of soil due to the infiltration of water along the cracks or pores in the ground. Therefore, the subsidence of urban areas has now become a serious geological disaster phenomenon. However, the use of traditional neural network prediction models has limitations when examining the causal relationships between time series surface deformation data and multiple influencing factors and when applying multiple influencing factors for predictive analyses. To this end, Sentinel-1A data from March 2017 to February 2023 were used as the data source in this paper, based on time series deformation data acquired using the small baseline subset interferometric synthetic aperture radar (SBAS-InSAR) technique. A sparrow search algorithm–convolutional neural network–long short-term memory (SSA-CNN-LSTM) neural network prediction model was built. The six factors of temperature, humidity, precipitation, and ground temperature at three different depths below the surface (5 cm, 10 cm, and 15 cm) were taken as the input of the model, and the surface deformation data were taken as the output of the neural network model. The correlation between the spatial and temporal evolution characteristics of the ground subsidence in urban areas and various influencing factors was analysed using grey correlation analysis, which proved that these six factors contribute to some extent to the deformation of the urban surface. The main urban area of Hohhot City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, was used as the study area. In order to verify the efficacy of this neural network prediction model, the prediction effects of the multilayer perceptron (MLP), backpropagation (BP), and SSA-CNN-LSTM models were compared and analysed, with the values of the correlation coefficients of the feature points of A1, B1, and C1 being in the range of 0.92, 0.83, and 0.93, respectively. The results show that compared with the traditional MLP and BP neural network models, the SSA-CNN-LSTM model achieves a higher performance in predicting time series surface deformation data in urban areas, which provides new ideas and methods for this area of research. SAR imagery plays a crucial role in geological and environmental monitoring, particularly in highland mountainous regions. However, inherent geometric distortions in SAR images often undermine the precision of remote sensing analyses. Accurately identifying and classifying these distortions is key to analyzing their origins and enhancing the quality and accuracy of monitoring efforts. While the layover and shadow map (LSM) approach is commonly utilized to identify distortions, it falls short in classifying subtle ones. This study introduces a novel LSM ground-range slope (LG) method, tailored for the refined identification of minor distortions to augment the LSM approach. We implemented the LG method on Sentinel-1 SAR imagery from the tri-junction area where the Xiaojiang, Pudu, and Jinsha rivers converge at the Yunnan-Sichuan border. By comparing effective monitoring-point densities, we evaluated and validated traditional methods—LSM, R-Index, and P-NG—against the LG method. The LG method demonstrates superior performance in discriminating subtle distortions within complex terrains through its secondary classification process, which allows for precise and comprehensive recognition of geometric distortions. Furthermore, our research examines the impact of varying slope parameters during the classification process on the accuracy of distortion identification. Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) ship detection is applicable to various scenarios, such as maritime monitoring and navigational aids. However, the detection process is often prone to errors due to interferences from complex environmental factors like speckle noise, coastlines, and islands, which may result in false positives or missed detections. This article introduces a ship detection method for SAR images, which employs deep learning and morphological networks. Initially, adaptive preprocessing is carried out by a morphological network to enhance the edge features of ships and suppress background noise, thereby increasing detection accuracy. Subsequently, a coordinate channel attention module is integrated into the feature extraction network to improve the spatial awareness of the network toward ships, thus reducing the incidence of missed detections. Finally, a four-layer bidirectional feature pyramid network is designed, incorporating large-scale feature maps to capture detailed characteristics of ships, to enhance the detection capabilities of the network in complex geographic environments. Experiments were conducted using the publicly available SAR Ship Detection Dataset (SSDD) and High-Resolution SAR Image Dataset (HRSID). Compared with the baseline model YOLOX, the proposed method increased the recall by 3.11% and 0.22% for the SSDD and HRSID, respectively. Additionally, the mean Average Precision (mAP) improved by 0.7% and 0.36%, reaching 98.47% and 91.71% on these datasets. These results demonstrate the outstanding detection performance of our method. Supervised machine learning algorithms usually require huge labeled data sets to produce sufficiently good results. For many applications, these data sets are still not available today, and the reasons for this can be manifold. As a solution, the missing training data can be generated by fast simulators. This procedure is well studied and allows filling possible gaps in the training data, which can further improve the results of a machine learning model. For this reason, this article deals with the development of a two-dimensional electromagnetic field simulator for modeling the response of a radar sensor in an imaging system based on the synthetic aperture radar principle. The creation of completely random scenes is essential to achieve data sets with large variance. Therefore, special emphasis is placed on the development of methods that allow creating random objects, which can then be assembled into an entire scene. In the context of this contribution, we focus on humanitarian demining with regard to improvised explosive devices using a ground-penetrating radar system. This is an area where the use of trained classifiers is of great importance, but in practice, there are little to no labeled datasets for the training process. The simulation results show good agreement with the measurement results obtained in a previous contribution, demonstrating the possibility of enhancing sparse training data sets with synthetic data. This paper introduces a method for quantifying the three-dimensional deformation of ground targets and outlines the associated process. Initially, ground-based synthetic aperture radar was employed to monitor the radial deformation of targets, and optical equipment monitored pixel-level deformation in the vertical plane of the line of sight. Subsequently, a regression model was established to transform pixel-level deformation into two-dimensional deformation based on a fundamental length unit, and the radar deformation monitoring data were merged with the optical deformation monitoring data. Finally, the fused data underwent deformation, resulting in a comprehensive three-dimensional deformation profile of the target. Through physical data acquisition experiments, the comprehensive three-dimensional deformation of targets was obtained and compared with the actual deformations. Geohazards that have developed in densely vegetated alpine gorges exhibit characteristics such as remote occurrence, high concealment, and cascading effects. Utilizing a single remote sensing datum for their identification has limitations, while utilizing multiple remote sensing data obtained based on different sensors can allow comprehensive and accurate identification of geohazards in such areas. This study takes the Latudi River valley, a tributary of the Nujiang River in the Hengduan Mountains, as the research area, and comprehensively uses three techniques of remote sensing: unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR), Small Baseline Subset interferometric synthetic aperture radar (SBAS-InSAR), and UAV optical remote sensing. These techniques are applied to comprehensively identify and analyze landslides, rockfalls, and debris flows in the valley. The results show that a total of 32 geohazards were identified, including 18 landslides, 8 rockfalls, and 6 debris flows. These hazards are distributed along the banks of the Latudi River, significantly influenced by rainfall and distribution of water systems, with deformation variables fluctuating with rainfall. The three types of geohazards cause cascading disasters, and exhibit different characteristics in the 0.5 m resolution hillshade map extracted from LiDAR data. UAV LiDAR has advantages in densely vegetated alpine gorges: after the selection of suitable filtering algorithms and parameters of the point cloud, it can obtain detailed terrain and geomorphological information on geohazards. The different remote sensing technologies used in this study can mutually confirm and complement each other, enhancing the capability to identify geohazards and their associated hazard cascades in densely vegetated alpine gorges, thereby providing valuable references for government departments in disaster prevention and reduction work. The attainment of a substantial aperture in the rotating synthetic aperture imaging system involves the rotation of a slender rectangular primary mirror. This constitutes a pivotal avenue of exploration in space telescope research. Due to the considerable aspect ratio of the primary mirror, environmental disturbances can significantly impact its surface shape. Active optical technology can rectify surface shape irregularities through the detection of wavefront information. The Phase Diversity (PD) method utilizes images captured by the imaging system to compute wavefront information. In this study, the PD method is applied to rotating synthetic and other rectangular aperture imaging systems, employing Legendre polynomials to model the wavefront.
