Since the 2019 worldwide pandemic, Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus 2 responsible for COVID-19 disease, not only had global economic repercussions but millions of individuals health were also put at risk. Like any other respiratory illness, COVID-19 has a variety of presentations and radiological features. While COVID-19 infections in the pediatric population generally present with better prognosis and lower mortality rates when compared to those of adults, in the vulnerable populations however, severe presentations are often more frequent and can have catastrophic consequences. This paper will specifically address pediatric presentations of COVID-19 including those suffering from multisystem inflammation, along with their radiologic manifestations and image findings., (Copyright © 2024 The Authors. Prompt diagnosis of pulmonary embolism is essential to avert morbidity and mortality. There are a number of diagnostic options for identification of a pulmonary embolism, including laboratory and imaging investigations. While computed tomography pulmonary angiography (CTPA) has largely supplanted nuclear medicine ventilation/perfusion studies, there remain significant limitations in the optimal performance of CTPA. Injuries to the liver and biliary tree carry significant morbidity and mortality if not diagnosed and managed rapidly. As clinical evaluation of suspected hepatobiliary injury is often limited in traumatic or post-surgical settings, imaging plays a critical role in the diagnosis of injury, assessment of treatment response and detection of delayed complications. Acute urinary tract infection diagnosis is primarily performed on clinical grounds. Diagnostic imaging is, however, often necessary as part of the workup for poor response to treatment, to evaluate causative or contributory factors, complicated infections and chronic presentations. This article will review the relevant embryology and anatomy of the male and female reproductive systems and will discuss the imaging findings of different infections. An understanding of the clinical presentation and imaging findings of infections of the reproductive system is critical in order to allow for prompt and accurate diagnosis. Although radiologic imaging of bowel infections is often a precursor to definitive diagnosis by endoscopy, biopsy, or stool cultures, imaging can provide critical information for diagnosis and management. Many infectious entities such as viral, bacterial, and parasitic infections can be discovered on imaging. Furthermore, imaging characterizes the extent of infection, involvement of specific bowel segments, and presence of complications in the abdomen. Hepatobiliary infections account for a small but clinically important proportion of emergency department presentations. They present a clinical challenge due to the broad range of imaging characteristics on presentation. Recognition of complications is imperative to drive appropriate patient care and resource utilization to avoid diagnostic pitfalls and avert adverse patient outcomes. A thorough understanding of anatomy infectious pathology of hepatobiliary system is essential in the emergency setting to confidently diagnose and guide medical intervention. Many presentations of hepatobiliary infection have characteristic imaging features on individual imaging modalities with others requiring the assimilation of findings of multiple imaging modalities along with incorporating the clinical context and multispecialist consultation. Familiarity with the strengths of individual imaging modalities in the radiologists' arsenal is imperative to guide the appropriate utilization of resources, particularly in the emergent time sensitive setting. In the setting of blunt trauma, the rapid assessment of internal injuries is essential to prevent potentially fatal outcomes. Computed tomography is a useful diagnostic tool for both screening and diagnosis. In addition to trauma, acute chest syndromes often warrant emergent computed tomographic angiography, looking for etiologies such as aortic aneurysms or complications of aortic aneurysms, or both, pulmonary emboli, as well as other acute vascular process like aortic dissection and Takayasu aortitis. Male pelvic emergencies are uncommon, and symptoms typically include scrotal pain, scrotal enlargement, or a palpable scrotal mass or all of these. Ultrasound is often the first-line modality for evaluation of male pelvic emergencies, which may be stratified into vascular, infectious, or traumatic causes. Entities such as testicular torsion, Fournier gangrene, and testicular dislocation are surgical emergencies and should not be missed or misdiagnosed, as this may cause a significant delay in urgently necessary treatment. Liver tumors in children are rare and comprise a diverse set of both benign and malignant lesions, most of which are not clinically detected until they are large and often difficult to resect. Technological advances in diagnostic imaging have greatly influenced the surgical planning of these lesions and ultimately the clinical outcome. The intent of this article is to present an imaging algorithm for the effective and efficient workup of liver tumors in pediatric patients. This includes the appropriate timing and use of various imaging modalities, such as conventional radiographs, ultrasound, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging. This article also addresses the use of sedation, intravenous contrast agents, and the benefits and limitations of specific imaging modalities.
