We investigated a time-delayed optoelectronic oscillator (OEO) that displays a wide range of complex dynamic behavior under small time delay. The phase-space trajectory distributions in different dynamic regimes were compared which brings a new perspective on the underlying mechanism of the transition process. It was found that bifurcation is always possible no matter how small the time delay is even if the universal adiabatic approximation model is invalid. Hereby we proposed a versatile simple oscillator which has a potential capacity as memory carrier and high-dimensional state spatial mapping ability that brings 1000 times computing-efficiency improvements of reservoir computing over the large time delay one. Furthermore, we demonstrated a new approach for a tunable optoelectronic pulse generator (repetition rate at 0.2 MHz and 0.25 GHz) which depends critically on time-delayed input electrical pulse. In the context of the expanding local food market, grasping the evolutionary trajectory of consumer purchasing behavior is crucial for understanding market dynamics. This study adopts a cross-generational perspective to delve into and elucidate the similarities and differences in local food consumption behaviors between Gen Z and Gen Y. Through the analysis of online survey data from 251 individuals of Gen Z and 319 of Gen Y and utilizing the Theory of Planned Behavior as a theoretical framework, and the study identifies eight key variables. The findings reveal that while Gen Z and Gen Y exhibit a range of common characteristics in their choice of local food,including attention to word of mouth, health consciousness, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control, and attitude.there is a significant divergence in their motivating factors for purchasing. Specifically, convenience is the primary driver for Gen Z when selecting local food; conversely, price is the decisive factor in the decision-making process of Gen Y. The deep coalbed methane (CBM) resources are widely developed in the Linxing Block. However, the evaluation of CBM geological areas suitable for CBM exploitation remains unexplored, hindering further development. This research optimizes the key geological parameters that influence the development of deep CBM from the perspectives of resource and development conditions. The evaluation system for deep CBM recoverability has been established, and the multi-fuzzy evaluation method has been used to perform the quantitative evaluation of recoverability. The results indicate that the resource conditions of No.8 + 9 coal seam are superior to those of No.4 + 5 coal seam. Favorable resource conditions are predominantly concentrated in the northeast and specific southern portions of the research area. Favorable development conditions for both coal seams are mostly concentrated in the northeastern area. Based on the classification standard of recoverable favorable areas, the Level II area is crucial for the development of No.4 + 5 coal seam. This area is primarily distributed in the northeast of the research area., Both Level I and Level II areas for the No. 8 + 9 coal seam are situated in the northeast. The Level III area is earmarked for deep CBM production and shows potential for exploration. Further analysis reveals that the resource conditions in the favorable area are generally superior to the development conditions. Platostoma palustre is an annual herb and an important medicinal and edible plant in southern China. Plastic-film mulching is an effective agronomic practice in the cultivation system of P. palustre, of which black-film mulching is the most common. However, fewer researches have been focused on the use of other colors of plastic films in P. palustre cultivation. In this study, different colors (white, black, red, and green) of plastic film were adopted, and the effects of different colors of plastic film mulching on the soil temperature, yield, and metabolites of P. palustre were investigated. The results showed that the fresh weight of a single plant of the green film treatment was significantly higher than that of the white film treatment (n = top 28). Based on the results of three temperature measurements, the soil temperature was almost the highest in the red film treatment and lowest in the white film treatment. The metabolomic analysis revealed that a total of 103 differential metabolites were identified. Among these, the gluconic acid, deoxyribose, and N-Acetylmannosamine in the red film treatment presented the highest abundance compared with the other treatments, meanwhile, the abundances of the five monosaccharides in the red film treatment were significantly higher than those of the green film treatment. Moreover, the sucrose, trehalose, and D-(+)-trehalose in the green film treatment exhibited the highest abundance, and the abundances of eight different amino acids in the red film treatment were almost the lowest while those in the black film treatment were almost the highest. Further analysis of the membership function values indicated that the black and red film treatments might be more suitable for the cultivation and quality production of P. palustre in comparison with the other two treatments. This study aimed to examine the role played by the physical literacy and mindfulness in the health-related quality of life (QoL) of college students. In early 2022, 24,236 college students from three universities in southern China were recruited in the study. R software and the lavvan package was utilized to build the structural equation model. The measurement model was composed of three latent factors (physical literacy, mindfulness, and quality of life) and 16 observed variables in total. The results of the measurement model indicated goodness fit with p > .05 in Chi-square result, and GFI = .92. In addition, the comparative fit index (.92), Tucker-Lewis index (.91), root-mean-square error of approximation (.07), and root of mean square residual (.11) were in accord with the cutoff model-fit criteria. The results confirm that physical literacy and mindfulness can play a significant and positive role in the structural equation model of quality of life. In addition, this study provides initial evidence that mindfulness and physical literacy could potentially buffer declines in student QoL during the COVID-19 pandemic. Ferroptosis is a form of regulated cell death characterized by oxidative injury-induced lipid peroxidation. However, the detailed protein post-translational modification regulatory mechanism of ferroptosis remains largely unknown. Here, we report that E1A binding protein P300 (EP300) acetyltransferase promotes ferroptosis in human pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) cells via the acetylation of heat shock protein family A (Hsp70) member 5 (HSPA5), also known as GRP78 or BIP) on the site of K353. Acetylated HSPA5 loses its ability to inhibit lipid peroxidation and subsequent ferroptotic cell death. Genetic or pharmacological inhibition of EP300-mediated HSPA5 acetylation on K353 increases PDAC cell resistance to ferroptosis. Moreover, histone deacetylase 6 (HDAC6) limits HSPA5 acetylation and subsequent ferroptosis. Collectively, these findings not only identify regulatory pathways for HSPA5 acetylation during ferroptosis, but also highlight promising strategies to increase ferroptosis sensitivity in PDAC cells., (© 2023. The results of association between Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) and gout are not consistent. Participants aged 20 years or older in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2007-2008 and 2015-2018 were included. Weighted univariable and multivariable logistic regressions were used to evaluate the association between OSA symptoms and gout. The subgroup and sensitivity analyses were also performed. Among the 15,947 participants in this study, the mean age was 47.8 years old, 48.87% of whom were male, 4891 had OSA symptoms, and 842 had gout. In multivariable logistic regression analyses, OSA symptoms were positively associated with gout in all models. The odds ratio (OR) was 1.315 and 95% confidence interval (CI) was 1.070-1.616 in fully adjusted model 4. In the subgroup analyses, we found a considerable interaction between OSA symptoms and gender with gout (P for interaction = 0.003). In the sensitivity analyses, the association between OSA symptoms and gout remained stable after adjustment for congestive heart failure and diuretics using. A previous study suggested that the airlift condition is superior to the Optisol-GS condition for preserving the limbal tissue of the human cornea. The purpose of this research is to investigate a new preservation device that preserves the cornea while separating epithelial and endothelial areas. The differences after preserving the corneal epithelium under different conditions were compared. A total of 24 corneas of New Zealand rabbits were divided into four groups in which the corneal epithelia were submersed in Optisol-GS or under airlift conditions for 1 and 2 weeks at 4 [Formula: see text]C. Transparency, optical coherence tomography (OCT), hematoxylin and eosin (H &E) staining, and epithelial migration tests were used to assess corneal status. The epithelial migration examination showed significantly greater migration ability after the airlift condition. Corneas in the 1-week Optisol-GS group were the most transparent, followed by the 1-week airlift group. OCT showed a progressive increase in corneal thickness to the end of the study. H &E staining showed that the epithelial cells retained intact cellular structure and morphology of the cells for both 1-week-preserved groups. However, there was disruption of the corneal epithelial cell structure for both 2-week-preserved groups. Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has become an important risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Peripheral neuropathy (PN) is regarded as one of the main microvascular complications of diabetes. But the association of NAFLD with PN is still unclear. We aimed to investigate the association between NAFLD and PN in US population by conducting a cross-sectional study. We enrolled 3029 participants aged 40-85 years from National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 1999-2004. NAFLD was defined as a US Fatty Liver Index (FLI) score ≥ 30, and PN was defined as having one or more insensate areas on either foot. Participants were divided into two groups (with or without PN). We performed multivariate logistic regression models to evaluate the association between NAFLD and PN. Subgroup analyses were used to find out whether the association was stable in different stratified groups. Sensitivity analyses were conducted to assess the robustness of the results. All the analyses were weighted. Among the individuals, 524 (17.3%) had PN and 1250 (41.27%) had NAFLD. In the multivariate logistic regression models, NAFLD was associated with an increased risk of PN (OR 1.44 [1.03 ~ 2.02]) after fully adjusting for covariates. In the subgroup analyses, NAFLD was significantly associated with PN in the age group (40-64 years), compared with those in the age group (65-85 years), (P for interaction: 0.004). The excitation technology for high-g-level shock environment experiments is currently a topic of interest, for which velocity amplification by collisions of vertically stacked bodies has been used to develop high-g shock tests with great success. This study investigated the superelastic collision effects generated during high-velocity one-dimensional three-body impacts. Theoretical formulae were derived in brief for an analytical investigation of the collisions. Four experiments were performed with different initial velocities obtained from free-falls from different heights. Velocity gains larger than 5 were obtained for the three-body collisions, and coefficients of restitution larger than 2.5 were observed for the second impact. Alkaliptosis is a recently discovered type of pH-dependent cell death used for tumor therapy. However, its underlying molecular mechanisms and regulatory networks are largely unknown. Here, we report that the acetate-activating enzyme acetyl-CoA short-chain synthase family member 2 (ACSS2) is a positive regulator of alkaliptosis in human pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) cells. Using qPCR and western blot analysis, we found that the mRNA and protein expression of ACSS2 was upregulated in human PDAC cell lines (PANC1 and MiaPaCa2) in response to the classic alkaliptosis activator JTC801. Consequently, the knockdown of ACSS2 by shRNAs inhibited JTC801-induced cell death in PDAC cells, and was accompanied by an increase in cell clone formation and a decrease in intracellular pH. Mechanically, ACSS2-mediated acetyl-coenzyme A production and subsequent histone acetylation contributed to NF-κB-dependent CA9 downregulation, and this effect was enhanced by the histone deacetylase inhibitor trichostatin A. Eucommia ulmoides staminate flowers (EUF), a newly approved functional food in China, have great potential for hormonal regulation. Herein, we aim to demonstrate the chemical composition and pharmacological activity of EUF in testosterone production and hormonal regulation. EUF extract and its components, kaempferol and geniposidic acid, exhibited a strong stimulating effect by increasing testosterone secretion, reducing ROS production, or promoting viability in Leydig cells. Meanwhile, the increased testosterone production was related to the upregulation of mRNA and protein expression of the steroidogenic pathway, such as steroidogenic acute-regulatory protein (StAR), 3β -hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 1 (HSD3B1), 17α-hydroxylase/17,20-lyase (CYP17A1), and nuclear receptor subfamily 5 group A member 1 (NR5A1). However, PKA inhibitor H89 or adenylyl cyclase inhibitor SQ22536 could block their effect. The results of transgenic yeast models showed the androgenic agonistic effects of kaempferol and naringenin and the estrogenic agonistic effects of rutin. These results indicated that the testosterone promotional effect of EUF was related to the activation of the steroidogenic pathway and potential hormonal regulation. Plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) is a surface-treatment process extensively used to protect the surfaces of light metals such as Mg, Al, and Ti. Here, we report an environmentally friendly PEO process that uses nitrogen-containing electrolytes and low voltages (120 V) to form ~ 12 micron thick, uniform, adherent and porous oxide coatings on T1 titanium alloy surfaces. We evaluated the influence of nitrogenation by comparing the coatings to alloys treated in PEO baths without nitrogen-containing compounds. Both sets of samples exhibited basalt-like morphologies with distinct variation in the pore structures. The composition analyses showed that the coatings were primarily composites of titanium oxides and silicates. The T1 Ti alloys treated with nitrogen-containing electrolytes also contained TiC and TiN. This is the first ever report of producing Ti x O y , Ti-Si-O, TiC, and TiN composite coatings using a single PEO bath without carbide/nitride nanoparticles. The bandgaps of the coatings suggested visible light functionality. The use of nitrogen-based compounds in the PEO baths improved the hardness of the oxide layers but introduced stress-induced cracking which are potentially responsible for the reduction in corrosion resistance of the nitride and carbide containing coatings., (© 2022. High electrical and thermal conductive metals (HETCM) play a key role in smart electronics, green energy, modern communications and healthcare, however, typical HETCM (e.g., Ag, Au, Cu) usually have relatively low mechanical strength, hindering further applications. Selective laser melting (SLM) is a potentially transformative manufacturing technology that is expected to address the issue. Ag is the metal with the highest thermal conductivity, which induces microscale grain refinement, but also leads to high internal stresses by SLM. Here, we select Ag7.5Cu alloy as an example to demonstrate that multi-scale (micro/meso/macro) synergies can take advantage of high thermal conductivity and internal stresses to effectively strengthen Ag alloy. The mimicry of metal-hardened structures (e.g., large-angle boundary) is extended to the mesoscale by controlling the laser energy density and laser scanning strategy to manipulate the macroscale internal stress intensity and mesoscale internal stress direction, respectively, to form mesoscale large-angle "grains", resulting in multiple mutual perpendicular shear bands during fracture. The presented approach achieved a significant enhancement of yield strength (+ 145%) and ductility (+ 28%) without post-treatment. The results not only break the strength-ductility trade-off of conventional SLM alloys, but also demonstrate a multi-scale synergistic enhancement strategy that exploits high thermal conductivity and internal stresses., (© 2022. We investigated the impact of aerobic exercise (AE) on multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS), aortic injury, pathoglycemia, and death during sepsis. ICR mice were randomized into four groups: Control (Con), Lipopolysaccharide (LPS), Exercise (Ex), and Exercise + LPS (Ex + LPS) groups. Mice were trained with low-intensity for 4 weeks. LPS and Ex + LPS mice received 5 mg/kg LPS intraperitoneally for induction of sepsis. Histopathological micrographs showed the organ morphology and damage. This study examined the effects of AE on LPS-induced changes in systemic inflammation, pulmonary inflammation, lung permeability, and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) cell count, oxidative stress-related indicators in the lung, blood glucose levels, plasma lactate levels, serum insulin levels, plasma high-mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) levels, glucose transporter 1 (Glut1) and HMGB1, silent information regulator 1 (Sirt-1), and nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf-2) mRNA expression levels in lung tissue. AE improved sepsis-associated multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS), aortic injury, hypoglycemia, and death. AE prominently decreased pulmonary inflammation, pulmonary edema, and modulated redox balance during sepsis. AE prominently decreased neutrophil content in organ. AE prominently downregulated CXCL-1, CXCL-8, IL-6, TNF-α, Glu1, and HMGB1 mRNA expression but activated IL-1RN, IL-10, Sirt-1, and Nrf-2 mRNA expression in the lung during sepsis. AE decreased the serum levels of lactate and HMGB1 but increased blood glucose levels and serum insulin levels during sepsis. A 4-week AE improves sepsis-associated MODS, aortic injury, pathoglycemia, and death. AE impairs LPS-induced lactate and HMGB1 release partly because AE increases serum insulin levels and decreases the levels of Glut1. Kenaf is a great source of bast fiber and possesses significantly industrial interests. Cytoplasmic male sterility (CMS) is the basis of heterosis utilization in kenaf. Chloroplast, an important organelle for photosynthesis, could be associated with CMS. To understand the phylogenetic position and molecular basis of kenaf CMS from the perspective of chloroplast, the chloroplast (cp) genomes of the CMS line P3A and its maintainer line P3B were characterized and their comparative analysis was also performed. In this study, the chloroplast genomes of P3B and P3A were sequenced with 163,597 bp and 163,360 bp in length, respectively. A total of 131 genes including 85 protein coding genes (PCGs), 38 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, and 8 ribosome RNA (rRNA) genes were annotated in P3B, while 132 genes containing 83 PCGs, 41 tRNA genes, and 8 rRNA genes were found in P3A. The phylogenetic tree revealed that kenaf was closely related to Hibiscus syriacus and Abelmoschus esculentus. Further analysis of single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) and insertion and deletion (InDel) showed that compared with P3B, a total of 22 SNPs and 53 InDels were detected in gene coding region, gene intron, and intergenic regions of P3A. Remarkably, a total of 9 SNPs including 6 synonymous SNPs and 3 nonsynonymous SNPs were found in psbK, atpA, rpoC2, atpB, rpl20, clpP, rpoA, and ycf1. The present study provided basic information for further study of kenaf CMS mechsnism.

A detailed understanding of the gene-regulatory network in ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is vital for elucidating the mechanisms of AS pathogenesis. Assaying transposase-accessible chromatin in single cell sequencing (scATAC-seq) is a suitable method for revealing such networks. Thus, scATAC-seq was applied to define the landscape of active regulatory DNA in AS. As a result, there was a significant change in the percent of CD8+ T cells in PBMCs, and 37 differentially accessible transcription factor (TF) motifs were identified. T cells, monocytes-1 and dendritic cells were found to be crucial for the IL-17 signaling pathway and TNF signaling pathway, since they had 73 potential target genes regulated by 8 TF motifs with decreased accessibility in AS. Moreover, natural killer cells were involved in AS by increasing the accessibility to TF motifs TEAD1 and JUN to induce cytokine-cytokine receptor interactions. In addition, CD4+ T cells and CD8+ T cells may be vital for altering host immune functions through increasing the accessibility of TF motifs NR1H4 and OLIG (OLIGI and OLIG2), respectively. These results explain clear gene regulatory variation in PBMCs from AS patients, providing a foundational framework for the study of personal regulomes and delivering insights into epigenetic therapy.

The bone marrow microenvironment (BMM) plays a key role in leukemia progression, but its molecular complexity in pre-B cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL), the most common cancer in children, remains poorly understood. To gain further insight, we used single-cell RNA sequencing to characterize the kinetics of the murine BMM during B-ALL progression. Normal pro- and pre-B cells were found to be the most affected at the earliest stages of disease and this was associated with changes in expression of genes regulated by the AP1-transcription factor complex and regulatory factors NELFE, MYC and BCL11A. Granulocyte-macrophage progenitors show reduced expression of the tumor suppressor long non-coding RNA Neat1 and disruptions in the rate of transcription. Intercellular communication networks revealed monocyte-dendritic precursors to be consistently active during B-ALL progression, with enriched processes including cytokine-mediated signaling pathway, neutrophil-mediated immunity and regulation of cell migration and proliferation. In addition, we confirmed that the hematopoietic stem and progenitor cell compartment was perturbed during leukemogenesis. These findings extend our understanding of the complexity of changes and molecular interactions among the normal cells of the BMM during B-ALL progression.

Sophora tonkinensis belongs to genus Sophora of the Fabaceae family. It is mainly distributed in the ridge and peak regions of limestone areas in western China and has high medicinal value and important ecological functions. Wild populations of S. tonkinensis are in danger and need urgent conservation. Furthermore, wild S. tonkinensis resources are very limited relative to the needs of the market, and many adulterants are present on the market. Therefore, a method for authenticating S. tonkinensis and its adulterants at the molecular level is needed. Chloroplast genomes are valuable sources of genetic markers for phylogenetic analyses, genetic diversity evaluation, and plant molecular identification. In this study, we report the complete chloroplast genome of S. tonkinensis. The circular complete chloroplast genome was 154,644 bp in length, containing an 85,810 bp long single-copy (LSC) region, an 18,321 bp short single-copy (SSC) region and two inverted repeat (IR) regions of 50,513 bp. The S. tonkinensis chloroplast genome comprised 129 genes, including 83 protein-coding genes, 38 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, and 8 ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes. The structure, gene order and guanine and cytosine (GC) content of the S. tonkinensis chloroplast genome were similar to those of the Sophora alopecuroides and Sophora flavescens chloroplast genomes. A total of 1,760 simple sequence repeats (SSRs) were identified in the chloroplast genome of S. tonkinensis, and most of them (93.1%) were mononucleotides. Moreover, the identified SSRs were mainly distributed in the LSC region, accounting for 60% of the total number of SSRs, while 316 (18%) and 383 (22%) were located in the SSC and IR regions, respectively. Only one complete copy of the rpl2 gene was present at the LSC/IRB boundary, while another copy was absent from the IRA region because of the incomplete structure caused by IR region expansion and contraction. The phylogenetic analysis placed S. tonkinensis in Papilionoideae, sister to S. flavescens, and the genera Sophora and Ammopiptanthus were closely related. The complete genome sequencing and chloroplast genome comparative analysis of S. tonkinensis and its closely related species presented in this paper will help formulate effective conservation and management strategies as well as molecular identification approaches for this important medicinal plant.

This prospective study was to describe the incidence and characteristics of physical activity-related injuries (PARI) among college students in southern China. Online questionnaires and telephone interviews were combined to investigate the physical activity (PA) participation and PARI occurrences every two weeks. Totally, 84 college students (men: 49; women: 35) with a mean age of 19.4 years completed the entire 1-year follow-up. Overall, 14250.3 PA exposure hours were collected and 36 PARI episodes were reported by 26 students, with an injury incidence density of 2.53 injuries per 1000 PA exposure hours and an injury risk of 0.43 injuries/student/year. July to September accounted for a highest proportion of injuries and half of the injuries happened in the evening. The majority of injuries occurred outdoors, happened in non-contact activities, were acute and involved the lower limbs, with sprains and strains being the primary injury types. Of all injuries, 80.6% resulted in PA withdrawal immediately and 58.3% led to absence from the next planned PA. No significant difference was found between men and women. This study reveals the problem of PARI among college students, which provides the direction for the prevention of PARI in this population.

Anesthetics are used to produce hypnosis and analgesic effects during surgery, but anesthesia for a long time after the operation is not conducive to the recovery of animals or patients. Therefore, finding appropriate treatments to counter the effects of anesthetics could enhance postoperative recovery. In the current study, we discovered the novel role of a GluN2A-selective positive allosteric modulator (PAM) in ketamine-induced anesthesia and investigated the effects of the PAM combined with nalmefene and flumazenil (PNF) in reversing the actions of an anesthetic combination (ketamine-fentanyl-dexmedetomidine, KFD). PAM treatment dose-dependently decreased the duration of the ketamine-induced loss of righting reflex (LORR). Compared with those in the KFD group, the duration of LORR and the analgesic effect of the KFD + PNF group were obviously decreased. Meanwhile, successive administration of PNF and KFD had no adverse effects on the cardiovascular and respiratory systems. Both the KFD group and the KFD + PNF group showed no changes in hepatic and renal function or cognitive function in rats. Moreover, the recovery of motor coordination of the KFD + PNF group was faster than that of the KFD group. In summary, our results suggest the potential application of the PNF combination as an antagonistic treatment strategy for anesthesia.

This cross-sectional study aimed to describe the characteristics of physical activity-related injury (PARI) and to explore its associated factors among university students in Chaoshan district. Selected from the baseline survey in March and April, 434 students graded 1-3 from two universities were interviewed face-to-face in April and May 2017. Socio-demographics, physical activity (PA) participation, risk-taking behaviors, and PARI occurrences in the past 12 months were collected. Group Lasso logistic regression was applied to identify the risk factors of PARI. Totally, 317 PARI episodes were reported by 184 subjects with an overall injury risk of 0.73 injuries/student/year (males: 1.00, females: 0.63) and an injury incidence density of 0.81 injuries per 1000 PA exposure hours (males: 1.13, females: 0.69). Most injuries involved the lower extremities and were sprains and strains. Males, sports team members, and those with high-risk rebellious and anti-social behaviors were more likely to sustain PARI compared to their counterparts. Those who participated in vigorous-intensity PA with longer duration (particularly ≥ 150 min/week) were at a higher risk for PARI. This study indicates that PARI is a health concern among university students and great efforts should be taken to prevent them from PARI when promoting a physically active lifestyle.

Dual-energy spectral computed tomography (DESCT) is based on fast switching between high and low voltages from view to view to obtain dual-energy imaging data, and it can generate monochromatic image sets, iodine-based material decomposition images and spectral CT curves. Quantitative spectral CT parameters may be valuable for reflecting Ki-67 expression and EGFR mutation status in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). We investigated the associations among the quantitative parameters generated in DESCT and Ki-67 expression and EGFR mutation in NSCLC. We studied sixty-five NSCLC patients with preoperative DESCT scans, and their specimens underwent Ki-67 and EGFR evaluations. Statistical analyses were performed to identify the spectral CT parameters for the diagnosis of Ki-67 expression and EGFR mutation status. We found that tumour grade and the slope of the spectral CT curve in the venous phase were the independent factors influencing the Ki-67 expression level, and the area under the curve (AUC) of the slope of the spectral CT curve in the venous phase in the receiver operating characteristic analysis for distinguishing different Ki-67 expression levels was 0.901. Smoking status and the normalized iodine concentration in the venous phase were independent factors influencing EGFR mutation, and the AUC of the two-factor combination for predicting the presence of EGFR mutation was 0.807. These results show that spectral CT parameters may be useful for predicting Ki-67 expression and the presence of EGFR mutation in NSCLC.

Caspase 7 (CASP7) is located on chromosome 10q25.3 that has been identified to be a susceptibility locus of ischaemic stroke (IS) by genome-wide association study. Elevated CASP7 was observed in IS, acting as a key apoptotic mediator in the development of IS. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between genetic polymorphisms in CASP7 and risk of IS. The CASP7 polymorphisms were genotyped using a TaqMan allelic discrimination assay. The expression levels of CASP7 mRNA were examined using quantitative polymerase chain reaction and luciferase activity was analyzed using the Dual Luciferase reporter assay. The rs12415607 in the promoter of CASP7 was associated with a reduced risk of IS (AA vs. CC: adjusted OR = 0.55, 95% CI: 0.38-0.80, P = 0.002; CA/AA vs. CC: adjusted OR = 0.70, 95% CI: 0.54-0.91, P = 0.007; AA vs. CC/CA: adjusted OR = 0.64, 95% CI: 0.46-0.90, P = 0.01; A vs. C: adjusted OR = 0.74, 95% CI: 0.62-0.89, P = 0.001). Moreover, the rs12415607 AA genotype carriers exhibited lower levels of CASP7 mRNA and the rs12415607 A allele decreased the promoter activity. These findings indicate that the rs12415607 A allele induces lower levels of transcriptional activity and CASP7 mRNA, and thus is associated with a reduced risk of IS.

Fe-Mn-C-Al alloy is a new steel grade of TWIP steel developed in recent years. It has an excellent combination of elongation and tensile strength, as well as good anti-delayed fracture property. However, the crack sensitivity of this new TWIP steel has not been reported yet. In this study, differential thermal analysis (DTA) method was used, combined with professional thermodynamic software ThermoCalc to analyze the solidification behavior for Fe-Mn-C-Al alloys with different chemical compositions. Based on this, the crack sensitivity of TWIP steel is further determined. Through this study, it was found that Fe-Mn-C-Al TWIP steel may have a solidification sequence with high crack sensitivity, belonging to hypo-peritectic steel. Moreover, it was found that the carbon content has a large influence on the solidification behavior, and the manganese content also affects the solidification sequence. It can make the phase transition sequence of the solidification process change significantly, which may avoid the solidification behavior of hypo-peritectic reaction. The analysis results by thermodynamic software ThermoCalc are in good agreement with the experimental results. It displays thermoCalc can be a cost-effective way to develop Fe-Mn-C-Al TWIP steel. It is of great significance for shortening the development period of new Fe-Mn-C-Al steel grades.

Recently, Goji berry (Lycium barbarum L.) has been extensively cultivated to improve the fragile ecological environment and increase the income of residents in Qinghai Province, northwestern China. However, few studies have focused on the physiological responses of Goji berry under salt stress and alkali stress. Gas exchange, photosynthetic pigments, and chlorophyll fluorescence were evaluated in response to neutral (NaCl) and alkali (NaHCO 3 ) salt stresses. Nine irrigation treatments were applied over 30 days and included 0(Control group), 50, 100, 200, and 300 mM NaCl and NaHCO 3 . The results showed that salt and alkali stress reduced all the indicators and that alkali stress was more harmful to Goji berry than salt stress under the same solution concentrations. The salt tolerance and alkali resistance thresholds were identified when the index value exceeded the 50% standard of the control group, and threshold values of 246.3 ± 2.9 mM and 108.4.7 ± 2.1 mM, respectively, were determined by regression analysis. These results were used to identify the optimal water content for Goji berry. The minimum soil water content to cultivate Goji berry should be 16.22% and 23.37% under mild and moderate salt stress soils, respectively, and 29.10% and 42.68% under mild and moderate alkali stress soil, respectively.

Functional dyspepsia (FD) is one of the most prevalent functional gastrointestinal disorders, and more and more multicomponent drugs represented by traditional Chinese medicines have provided a favorable therapeutic effect in its treatment. However, their precise localization in the clinic, as well as corresponding mechanism, is ambiguous, thus hindering their widespread use. To meet this requirement, a precise and systematic approach based on a restriction of special disease-related molecules and the following network pharmacology analysis was developed and applied to a multicomponent conventional drug, XiaoErFuPi (XEFP) granules. Experimental verification of the results indicates that this approach can facilitate the prediction, and the precise and systematic efficacy of XEFP could be easily revealed, which shows that XEFP has an advantage over the positive control drug on lactate, gastrin, interleukin 4 and calcitonin gene-related peptide. Moreover, by the proteomics analysis, its superposition of multi-target effects was revealed and a new candidate target for the treatment of FD, striatin, was obtained and verified. This study provides a practicable precise approach for the investigation of the efficacy of multicomponent drugs against FD and offers a promising alternative for the systematical management of FD.

In this paper, we systematically investigate the effect of hydrostatic pressure on the phononic and electronic transport properties of orthorhombic p-type GeSe using first-principles based Boltzmann transport equation approach. It is found that the lattice thermal conductivities along the a and c directions increase with pressure, whereas it experiences a decrease along the b direction. This anomalous pressure dependent lattice thermal conductivity is attributed to the combined effect of enhanced phonon group velocity and reduced phonon lifetime. Additionally, the optical phonon branches have remarkable contributions to the total lattice thermal conductivity. The electronic transport calculations indicate that the Seebeck coefficient undergoes a sign change from p-type to n-type along the a direction under pressure, and a dramatic enhancement of the power factor is observed due to the boost of electrical conductivity. The predicted ZT values along the a, b, and c directions are 1.54, 1.09, and 1.01 at 700 K and 8 GPa, respectively, which are about 14, 7.3, and 1.9 times higher than those at zero pressure at experimental carrier concentration of ~10 18  cm -3 . Our study is expected to provide a guide for further optimization of the thermal and charge transport properties through hydrostatic pressure.

Avian Influenza A (H5N6) Virus causes severe influenza disease in humans and is manifested by acute respiratory distress syndrome, multi-organ failure, and high mortality rates. T cells recognize antigens specifically through a membrane protein T cell receptor (TCR). To ward off a wide variety of pathogens, the human adaptive immune system harbors a vast array of TCRs, which are collectively referred to as the TCR repertoire. The B cell receptor (BCR) is involved in inducing the humoral immune response. The generation of a diverse T cell and B cell repertoire is essential for protection against infection. In this study, multiplex PCR based on genomic DNA amplicons and Illumina high-throughput sequencing (HTS) were applied to study the characteristics and polymorphisms of the TRB and IGH repertoire in the peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from two H5N6 AIV patients and six healthy donors (NC). The CDR3 average length in the AIV group was different from the NC group. The TRBV12-3, TRBV12-4, and TRBV15 gene segments and TRBV30/TRBJ1-2, TRBV12-3/TRBJ1-1 and IGHV3-11/IGHJ6 gene segment pairings also exhibited a higher usage in the PBMCs of AIV donors and may provide more information for generating more effective T/B cell targeted diagnosis/protection strategies.

We report here that CYB5D2 is associated with tumor suppression function in breast cancer (BC). CYB5D2 expression was significantly reduced in tamoxifen resistant MCF7 cells and in MCF7 cell-derived xenografts treated with TAM. CYB5D2 overexpression induced apoptosis in MCF7 cells; CYB5D2 knockdown enhanced MCF7 cell proliferation. Using the TCGA and Curtis datasets within the Oncomine database, CYB5D2 mRNA expression was downregulated in primary BCs vs breast tissues and HER2-positive or triple negative BCs vs estrogen receptor (ER)-positive BCs. Using the TCGA and Metabric datasets (n = 817 and n = 2509) within cBioPortal, 660 and 4891 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in relation to CYB5D2 were identified. These DEGs were enriched in pathways governing cell cycle progression, progesterone-derived oocyte maturation, oocyte-meiosis, estrogen-mediated S-phase entry, and DNA metabolism. CYB5D2 downregulation decreased overall survival (OS, p = 0.0408). A CYB5D2-derived 21-gene signature was constructed and robustly correlated with OS shortening (p = 5.72e-12), and independently predicted BC deaths (HR = 1.28; 95% CI 1.08-1.52; p = 0.004) once adjusting for known clinical factors. CYB5D2 reductions displayed relationship with mutations in PIK3CA, GATA3, MAP3K1, CDH1, TP53 and RB1. Impressively, 85% (560/659) of TP53 mutations occurred in the 21-gene signature-positive BC. Collectively, we provide the first evidence that CYB5D2 is a candidate tumor suppressor of BC.

Apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) from diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) has gained wide attention as potential tool for differentiating between malignant and benign solitary pulmonary lesions (SPLs). The overall effects of multiple histopathological parameters on ADC have not been elucidated, which may help to explain the overlapping of ADC between malignant and benign SPLs. The study sought to explore associations between ADC and histopathological parameters in SPLs, and to compare diagnostic capability of ADC among different types of SPLs. Multiple histopathological parameters (cell density, nuclear-to-cytoplasm ratio, necrotic fraction, presence of mucus and grade of differentiation) were quantified in 52 malignant and 13 benign SPLs with surgical pathology available. Cell density (β = -0.40) and presence of mucus (β = 0.77) were independently correlated with ADC in malignant SPLs. The accurate diagnosis rate of squamous carcinomas, adenocarcinomas without mucus and malignant tumors with mucus was 100%, 82% and 0%, respectively. Our study suggested that cell density and presence of mucus are independently correlated with ADC in malignant SPLs. Squamous carcinoma maybe more accurately diagnosed as malignancy by ADC value. Malignant SPLs with mucus and adenocarcinomas with low cell density should be kept in mind in differentiating SPLs using ADC because of insufficient diagnostic capability.

Chronic renal disease (CRD) associated with cardiovascular disease (CVD) and/or type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a significant problem in Aboriginal Australians. Whole exome sequencing data (N = 72) showed enrichment for ClinVar pathogenic variants in gene sets/pathways linking lipoprotein, lipid and glucose metabolism. The top Ingenuity Pathway Analysis canonical pathways were Farsenoid X Receptor and Retinoid Receptor (FXR/RXR; (P = 1.86 × 10 -7 ), Liver X Receptor and Retinoid Receptor (LXR/RXR; P = 2.88 × 10 -6 ), and atherosclerosis signalling (P = 3.80 × 10 -6 ). Top pathways/processes identified using Enrichr included: Reactome 2016 chylomicron-mediated lipid transport (P = 3.55 × 10 -7 ); Wiki 2016 statin (P = 8.29 × 10 -8 ); GO Biological Processes 2017 chylomicron remodelling (P = 1.92 × 10 -8 ). ClinVar arylsulfatase A pseudodeficiency (ARSA-PD) pathogenic variants were common, including the missense variant c.511 G > A (p.Asp171Asn; rs74315466; frequency 0.44) only reported in Polynesians. This variant is in cis with known ARSA-PD 3' regulatory c.*96 A > G (rs6151429; frequency 0.47) and missense c.1055 A > G (p.Asn352Ser; rs2071421; frequency 0.47) variants. These latter two variants are associated with T2D (risk haplotype GG; odds ratio 2.67; 95% CI 2.32-3.08; P = 2.43 × 10 -4 ) in genome-wide association data (N = 402), but are more strongly associated with quantitative traits (DBP, SBP, ACR, eGFR) for hypertension and renal function in non-diabetic than diabetic subgroups. Traits associated with CVD, CRD and T2D in Aboriginal Australians provide novel insight into function of ARSA-PD variants.

Insulin-like growth factor (IGF) signaling plays an important role in tumorigenesis and metastasis. Here, we analyzed insulin-like growth factor (IGF) binding protein-2 (IGFBP2) expression in 81 lung cancer patients and 36 controls consisting of healthy and benign pulmonary lesion participants for comparison, then validated the IGFBP2 expression in additional 84 lung cancer patients, and evaluated the prognostic and chemoresistant significance of IGFBP2 in two cohorts respectively. Next we detected the reversal effect of trichostatin A (TSA) on chemoresistance in cell lines with high IGFBP2 expression. As a result, the mean expression of IGFBP2 in lung cancer patients was significantly higher than that in controls and increased with lung cancer progressed to advanced stage. In addition, high IGFBP2 expression was independently predictive for chemoresistance; over-expressed IGFBP2 enhances cell activity and TSA can reverse the chemoresistance induced by high IGFBP2 expression through enhancing autophagy. Furthermore, multivariate analysis showed that lung cancer patients whose blood IGFBP2 was higher had a poor survival outcome, with a hazard ratio of 8.22 (95%CI 1.78-37.92, P = 0.007) after adjustment for stage, histopathology, EGFR mutation, age, smoking and surgery.

A position-multiplexing technique with ultra-broadband illumination is proposed to enhance the information security of an incoherent optical cryptosystem. This simplified optical encryption system only contains one diffuser acting as the random phase mask (RPM). Incoherent light coming from a plaintext passes through this nature RPM and generates the corresponding ciphertext on a camera. The proposed system effectively reduces problems of critical alignment sensitivity and coherent noise that are found in the coherent illumination. Here, the use of ultra-broadband illumination has the advantage of reducing the speckle contrast that makes the ciphertext more complex. Reduction of the ciphertext size further increases the strength of the ciphering. Using the spatial decorrelation of the speckle pattern we have demonstrated a position multiplexed based cryptosystem, where the ciphertext is the superposition of uniquely encrypted texts from various spatial positions. These unique spatial keys are utilized to decrypt the plaintext located at different spatial positions, and a complete decrypted text can be concatenated with high fidelity. Benefiting from position-multiplexing, the information of interest is scrambled together by a truly random method in a smaller ciphertext. A high performance security for an optical cryptosystem has been achieved in a simple setup with a ground glass diffuser as a nature RPM, the broadband incoherent illumination and small position-multiplexed ciphertext.

Tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea Schreb) is a turf grass species which is widely used for rhizoremediation of organic contaminants and shows notable prospects in heavy metal phytoremediation. In this study, different concentrations of cadmium ion (Cd 2+ ) were applied to study toxic effects of Cd 2+ and responses of tall fescue by soilless culture. Tall fescue showed comparable high tolerance to Cd 2+ as Indian mustard (Brassica juncea L.). Additionally, the treatment with high concentration of Cd 2+ leaded to decreased chlorophyll contents, production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and lipid peroxidation, as well as damage of cell membrane, necrosis and apoptosis in tall fescue roots, and toxicity of Cd 2+ on physiologic properties of tall fescue has been well discussed. Moreover, in photosystem II electron donor side, electron transport from oxygen evolution complex (OEC) to Yz residue of D1 protein was inhibited under high Cd 2+ treatments, which may be due to the Cd 2+ induced ROS production and the replacement of Ca 2+ in the core of OEC. In electron acceptor side, electron transport efficiency from quinone B to photosystem I acceptors increased under high Cd 2+ treatments, which may be an important response for plants against Cd 2+ toxicity and its mechanism needs our further study.

Coal samples were cut into cores to perform a flow velocity sensitivity (FVS) analysis under varying initial permeability, confining pressures, injection volumes, and injection intensities. The results show that the permeability and the output of the coal fines decrease with an increase in confining pressures at a constant displacement velocity. A critical flow velocity exists for the migration of relatively large coal fines. Below this critical flow velocity, very small coal fines can be transported out of the coal by the fluid, slightly increasing the coal permeability. However, larger coal fines are transported at a higher flow velocity, which may block the effective seepage paths and reduce coal permeability, inducing FVS. Moreover, as the flow velocity and the injection volume increase, the permeability damage rate increases, but the rate of increase in the permeability damage decreases. The damage to the permeability due to FVS mainly occurs in the early stage of coal fines migration, and an abrupt increase in the flow velocity can damage reservoirs and induce substantial coal fines generation. Thus, maintaining a stable effective strength and a controlled depressurization rate during drainage can effectively constrain coal fines output and decrease permeability damage within coal reservoirs.

Lotus roots-like NiO/NiCo 2 O 4 hybrids derived from Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are fabricated for the first time by using flake NiCo-MOF precursors as reactant templates. It was found that a thin sample consisting of 60 wt % NiO/NiCo 2 O 4 hybrids in the wax matrix exhibited an effective microwave absorption bandwidth of 4.2 GHz at the thickness of 1.6 mm. The highest reflection loss of -47 dB was observed at 13.4 GHz for a sample with a thickness of 1.7 mm. Results obtained in this study indicate that hybrids of NiO and NiCo 2 O 4 are promising microwave absorbing materials with adjustable permittivity, which can exhibit broad effective absorption bandwidth at low filler loading and thin thickness.

It is a great challenge to prepare "functional artificial bone" for the repair of large segmental defect, especially in weight-bearing bones. In this study, bioactive HA/PCL composite scaffolds that possess anatomical structure as autogenous bone were fabricated by CT-guided fused deposition modeling technique. The scaffolds can provide mechanical support and possess osteoconduction property. Then the VEGF-165/BMP-2 loaded hydrogel was filled into biomimetic artificial bone spatially to introduce osteoinduction and angioinduction ability via sustained release of these cytokines. It has been revealed that the cytokine-loaded hydrogel possessed good biodegradability and could release the VEGF-165/BMP-2 sustainedly and steadily. The synergistic effect of these two cytokines showed significant stimulation on the osteogenic gene expresssion of osteoblast in vitro and ectopic ossification in vivo. The scaffolds were then implanted into the rabbit tibial defect sites (1.2 cm) for bone regeneration for 12 weeks, indicating the best repair of defect in vivo, which was superior to the pure hydrogel/scaffolds or one-cytokine loaded hydrogel/scaffolds and close to autogenous bone graft. The strategy to construct an "anatomy-structure-function" trinity system as functional artificial bone shows great potential in replacing autogenous bone graft and applying in large bone defect repair clinically in future.

Nb 2 O 5 is added to a borosilicate sealing system to improve the thermo-mechanical stability of the sealing interface between the glass and Fe-Cr metallic interconnect (Crofer 22APU) in solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs). The thermo-mechanical stability of the glass/metal interface is evaluated experimentally as well as by using a finite element analysis (FEA) method. The sealing glass doped with 4 mol.% Nb 2 O 5 shows the best thermo-mechanical stability, and the sealing couple of Crofer 22APU/glass/GDC (Gd 0.2 Ce 0.8 O 1.9 ) remains intact after 50 thermal cycles. In addition, all sealing couples show good joining after being held at 750 °C for 1000 h. Moreover, the possible mechanism on the thermo-mechanical stability of sealing interface is investigated in terms of stress-based and energy-based perspectives.

The tolerance of the electrode against the CO species absorbed upon the surface presents the biggest dilemma of the alcohol fuel cells. Here we report for the first time that the inclusion of (Zr, Ce)O 2 solid solution as the supporting material can significantly improve the anti-CO-poisoning as well as the activity of Pd/C catalyst for ethylene glycol electro-oxidation in KOH medium. In particular, the physical origin of the improved electrocatalytic properties has been unraveled by first principle calculations. The 3D stereoscopic Pd cluster on the surface of (Zr, Ce)O 2 solid solution leads to weaker Pd-C bonding and smaller CO desorption driving force. These results support that the Pd/ZrO 2 -CeO 2 /C composite catalyst could be used as a promising effective candidate for direct alcohol fuel cells application.

Physics phenomena of multi-soliton complexes have enriched the life of dissipative solitons in fiber lasers. By developing a birefringence-enhanced fiber laser, we report the first experimental observation of group-velocity-locked vector soliton (GVLVS) molecules. The birefringence-enhanced fiber laser facilitates the generation of GVLVSs, where the two orthogonally polarized components are coupled together to form a multi-soliton complex. Moreover, the interaction of repulsive and attractive forces between multiple pulses binds the particle-like GVLVSs together in time domain to further form compound multi-soliton complexes, namely GVLVS molecules. By adopting the polarization-resolved measurement, we show that the two orthogonally polarized components of the GVLVS molecules are both soliton molecules supported by the strongly modulated spectral fringes and the double-humped intensity profiles. Additionally, GVLVS molecules with various soliton separations are also observed by adjusting the pump power and the polarization controller.

The nonsynonymous SCN10A single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) rs6795970 has been reported to associate with PR interval and atrial fibrillation (AF) and in strong linkage disequilibrium (LD) with the AF-associated SNP rs6800541. In this study, we investigated whether rs6795970 polymorphisms are associated with AF recurrence after catheter ablation. A total of 502 consecutive patients with AF who underwent catheter ablation were included. AF recurrence was defined as a documented episode of any atrial arrhythmias lasting ≥30 s after a blanking period of 3 months. AF recurrence was observed between 3 and 12 months after catheter ablation in 24.5% of the patients. There was a significant difference in the allele distribution (p = 7.86 × 10 -5 ) and genotype distribution (p = 1.42 × 10 -5 ) of rs6795970 between the AF recurrence and no recurrence groups. In a multivariate analysis, we identified the following independent predictors of AF recurrence: the rs6795970 genotypes in an additive model (OR 0.36, 95%CI 0.22~0.60, p = 7.04 × 10 -5 ), a history of AF ≥36 months (OR 3.57, 95%CI 2.26~5.63, p = 4.33 × 10 -8 ) and left atrial diameter (LAD) ≥40 mm (OR 1.85, 95%CI 1.08~3.19, p = 0.026). These data suggest that genetic variation in SCN10A may play an important role in predicting AF recurrence after catheter ablation in the Chinese Han population.

The demand for high efficiency intermediate band (IB) solar cells is driving efforts in producing high quality IB photovoltaic materials. Here, we demonstrate ZnTe:O highly mismatched alloys synthesized by high dose ion implantation and pulsed laser melting exhibiting optically active IB states and efficient sub-gap photoresponse, as well as investigate the effect of pulsed laser melting on the structural and optical recovery in detail. The structural evolution and vibrational dynamics indicates a significant structural recovery of ZnTe:O alloys by liquid phase epitaxy during pulsed laser melting process, but laser irradiation also aggravates the segregation of Te in ZnTe:O alloys. A distinct intermediate band located at 1.8 eV above valence band is optically activated as evidenced by photoluminescence, absorption and photoresponse characteristics. The carrier dynamics indicates that carriers in the IB electronic states have a relatively long lifetime, which is beneficial for the fast separation of carriers excited by photons with sub-gap energy and thus the improved overall conversion efficiency. The reproducible capability of implantation and laser annealing at selective area enable the realization of high efficient lateral junction solar cells, which can ensure extreme light trapping and efficient charge separation.

Oxygen tension is an important micro-environmental factor that affects epidermal development and function. After injury, high oxygen consumption and vascular injury result in partial hypoxia. However, whether hypoxia benefits or hurts wound healing remains controversial. In this study, a tissue oxygen tension monitor was used to detect the spatial and temporal distribution of oxygen in burn wounds. In vitro, we demonstrate that hypoxia promoted the expression of integrin β1 and the migration of keratinocytes. Furthermore, hypoxia-induced migration was slowed by Notch1 ligands and a siRNA against ITGB1 (integrin β1). Our findings suggest that integrin β1 may be an oxygen-sensitive molecule that promotes keratinocyte migration during wound healing and that Notch1 signaling is involved in this process.

Optical parametric chirped-pulse amplification (OPCPA) has been demonstrated to be a promising approach for pushing femtosecond pulses towards ultra-high peak powers. However, the future success of OPCPA strongly relies on the ability to manipulate its phase-matching (PM) configuration. When a high average power pump laser is involved, the thermal effects in nonlinear crystals induce phase-mismatch distortions that pose an inherent limitation on the conversion efficiency. Here, we demonstrate that the noncollinear configuration previously adopted for wavelength-insensitive PM can be employed for temperature-insensitive PM when the noncollinear angle is properly reset. Simultaneous temperature- and wavelength-insensitive PM is realized for the first time by imposing such a temperature-insensitive noncollinear configuration with an angularly dispersed seed signal. Based on the lithium triborate crystal, the proposed noncollinear achromatic PM has a thermal acceptance 6 times larger than that of the conventional wavelength-insensitive noncollinear PM and has a sufficient spectral acceptance to support pulse durations of ~20 fs at 800 nm. These achievements open new possibilities for generating ultra-high peak power lasers with high average power.

An intra-cavity RbTiOPO 4 (RTP) cascade Raman laser was demonstrated for efficient multi-order Stokes emission. An acousto-optic Q-switched Nd:YAlO 3 laser at 1.08 μm was used as the pump source and a 20-mm-long x-cut RTP crystal was used as the Raman medium to meet the X(Z,Z)X Raman configuration. Multi-order Stokes with multiple Raman shifts (~271, ~559 and ~687 cm -1 ) were achieved in the output. Under an incident pump power of 9.5 W, a total average output power of 580 mW with a pulse repetition frequency of 10 kHz was obtained. The optical conversion efficiency is 6.1%. The results show that the RTP crystal can enrich laser spectral lines and generate high order Stokes light.

In a two-terminal Au/hexagonal WO3 nanowire/Au device, ions drifting or carriers self-trapping under external electrical field will modulate the Schottky barriers between the nanowire and electrodes, and then result in memristive effect. When there are water molecules adsorbed on the surface of WO3 nanowire, hydrogen ions will generate near the positively-charged electrode and transport in the condensed water film, which will enhance the memristive performance characterized by analogic resistive switching remarkably. When the bias voltage is swept repeatedly under high relative humidity level, hydrogen ions will accumulate on the surface and then implant into the lattice of the WO3 nanowire, which leads to a transition from semiconducting WO3 nanowire to metallic HxWO3 nanowire. This insulator-metal transition can be realized more easily after enough electron-hole pairs being excited by laser illumination. The concentration of hydrogen ions in HxWO3 nanowire will decrease when the device is exposed to oxygen atmosphere or the bias voltage is swept in atmosphere with low relative humidity. By modulating the concentration of hydrogen ions, conductive hydrogen tungsten bronze filament might form or rupture near electrodes when the polarity of applied voltage changes, which will endow the device with memristive performance characterized by digital resistive switching.
