This study presents the fabrication and characterization of mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) incorporating green-synthesized silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using Hibiscus Rosa sinensis extract within a polyethersulfone (PES) matrix for nanofiltration (NF) application. The membranes were evaluated for their pure water permeability, salt rejection, dye removal, and antifouling performance. Results showed that the membrane with 0.75 wt% AgNPs exhibited the highest pure water permeability of 36 L/m2 h−1 bar−1 attributed to increased porosity and enhanced hydrophilicity. Addition of 0.75wt% AgNPs resulted in significant improvements, with NaCl rejection increased from 32 to 57%, MgSO4 from 26 to 67%, and CaCl2 from 27 to 41%. Antifouling tests revealed that the 0.75 wt% AgNPs membrane had the lowest irreversible fouling and highest flux recovery due to the antimicrobial action and improved surface properties of AgNPs. Importantly, the performance of the fabricated membranes align with loose nanofiltation characteristcs, as evidence by high dye rejection rates coupled with moderate rejection of salts. This study investigates the enhancement of solar cell efficiency using nanofluid cooling systems, focusing on citrate-stabilized and PVP-stabilized silver nanoparticles. Traditional silicon-based and perovskite solar cells were examined to assess the impact of these nanofluids on efficiency improvement and thermal management. A Central Composite Design (CCD) was employed to vary nanoparticle concentration (0.2–0.8 wt%), coolant flow rate (0.5–1.5 L/min), and solar irradiance (800–1000 W/m²). Efficiency improvements were measured using Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) regression. The experimental setup integrated nanofluid cooling systems with the solar cells, facilitating efficient heat dissipation. Results showed significant efficiency gains: silicon-based cells improved from 15 to 17% with PVP stabilization, and perovskite cells increased from 18 to 21.1%. PVP-stabilized nanofluids exhibited superior thermal conductivity (0.7 W/m K) and lower thermal resistance (0.008 K/W) compared to citrate-stabilized nanofluids, leading to notable reductions in operating temperatures. For silicon cells, temperatures dropped from 50 °C to 40 °C with PVP, and for perovskite cells, from 55 °C to 40 °C. Response Surface Methodology (RSM) identified optimal conditions for maximum efficiency improvement at 0.8 wt% nanoparticle concentration and 1.5 L/min flow rate. These findings underscore the potential of PVP-stabilized nanofluids in enhancing solar cell performance and longevity. Future research should refine the experimental design, increase sample size, and explore other nanoparticle types and stabilization methods to optimize solar cell efficiency and thermal management. An energy material has been developed using a one-step chemical reduction method, incorporating silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) that encapsulate micro-sized silicon (mSi) flakes. SEM investigation revealed complete encapsulation of silicon flakes by AgNP's dendritic structure, EDX confirmed the deposition of Ag on Si flakes. Raman spectroscopy confirmed the formation of silver and silicon oxides. In a three-cell configuration, the low equivalent series resistance and charge transfer resistance indicated that Ag served as the conductive channel for charge transfer. The CV curves displayed a 1.7 V voltage window attributed to amorphous SiO2, which offered a significant specific capacitance of 330.6 F g−1 at a scan rate of 5 mV s−1. The pseudocapacitive nature of the developed material, in comparison to other Ag-based composites and pseudocapacitive materials, achieved an energy density of 37.83 Wh kg−1 and a power density of 6374 W kg−1 at a current density of 7.5 A g−1 in a three-cell configuration. Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) technology has attracted more and more attention due to its high sensitivity, low water interference, and quick measurement. Constructing high-performance SERS substrates with high sensitivity, uniformity and reproducibility is of great importance to put the SERS technology into practical application. In this paper, we report a simple fabrication process to construct dense silver-coated PMMA nanoparticles-on-a-mirror SRES substrates. The electric field enhancement at the ultra-small metallic nanogap is further amplified by the silver mirror, which can achieve higher SERS intensity. The thickness of the PMMA layer was optimized so that the absorption peak can match the excitation wavelength, thus obtaining maximum SERS intensity. The optimized substrate possessed excellent SERS behavior for crystal violet (CV) molecules under 532 nm laser excitation, with a low detection limit of 10− 13 M. Moreover, SERS analysis was quantitatively achieved in the broad linear concentrations. The fabricated substrate demonstrated excellent uniformity and reproducibility with a relative standard deviation (RSD) of 7.75% in peak intensities. The substrate also showed long-term stability, and it can be stored for 37 days with an acceptable SERS peak intensities. This proposed method will open up new possibilities to fabricate high-performance SERS sensors, which can be widely used for the practical application of chemical and biochemical sensing. Over the past decades, bacterial infections resulting from the misuse of antibiotics have garnered significant attention. Among the alternative antibacterial strategies, photodynamic therapy (PDT) has emerged as a promising non-antibiotic approach. However, persistent bacterial biofilms, particularly those composed of gram-negative bacteria with their protective outer membranes, have exhibited remarkable resilience to PDT. To address this challenge, we have developed an antibacterial composite material, silver nanoparticles coated-copper cysteamine (Cu-Cy-PEG@AgNPs), which demonstrates remarkable antibacterial activity against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Specifically, under UV irradiation, Cu-Cy-PEG@AgNPs achieves a sterilization efficiency of approximately 100% at a low concentration of 25 µg/mL. The incorporation of silver nanoparticles significantly enhances the antibacterial performance of Cu-Cy, effectively eradicating persistent bacterial biofilm infections. Moreover, Cu-Cy-PEG@AgNPs exhibits excellent biocompatibility with L929 cells, indicating its potential for use in relevant applications to combat bacterial infections. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Rhazya stricta, a perennial shrub native to the Middle East and South Asia, has been used in traditional medicine for various therapeutic purposes, including antimicrobial action. The current study aimed to compare the antifungal properties of 96% and 50% ethanolic extracts of R. stricta leaves and their biogenic silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). The phytochemical constituents of both extracts were analyzed by Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS). The AgNPs were characterized using FTIR, UV-Vis spectroscopy, DLS, and TEM, confirming bioactive chemicals' effective production and existence. The antifungal efficacy was tested on five pathogenic fungi: Drechslera halodes, Drechslera tetramera, Macrophomina phaseolina, Alternaria alternata, and Curvularia australiensis. The 96% ethanol extract inhibited fungal growth the most, with D. halodes, C. australiensis, and A. alternata all experiencing almost 100% inhibition. AgNPs also showed strong antifungal efficacy, with those generated from 96% ethanol extract outperforming those from 50% ethanol extract. This study highlights the potential of R. stricta extracts and their biogenic AgNPs as environmentally friendly antifungal agents, which supports their use in long-term antimicrobial therapy. Background: Impression materials can harbour microorganisms from saliva and blood, posing cross-contamination risks. However, post-setting disinfection might compromise the dimensional accuracy and mechanical properties of alginates. Hence, it was the aim of this research to assess the detail reproduction, tear strength, elastic recovery, and surface quality of the gypsum model of newly developed dental alginates with inherent antimicrobial properties. Methods: Three dental alginate groups with antimicrobial alterations were formulated. One group replaced water with 0.2% chlorhexidine solution (CHX group), while the other two utilized water-based extracts of Syzygium aromaticum (SA, clove) or Zingiber officinale (ZO, ginger) to reduce silver nitrate, resulting in two silver nanoparticles (AgNPs)/extract (clove or ginger) mixture solutions. These mixture solutions were employed for the preparation of dental alginate yielding the SA + AgNP and ZO + AgNPs groups. All modified groups were compared to an unmodified control group that used water for mixing. Elastic recovery, detail reproduction, and tear strength were assessed following the ISO 21563:2021 standard. The surface roughness of plaster models was analysed using the optical profilometer. Elastic recovery was assessed by applying and then releasing load on alginate specimens to measure their ability to recover from deformation. Detail reproduction was evaluated by observing the reproducibility of a 50 μm line in a metallic mold using a light microscope, while tear strength was determined by stretching the specimens until failure at a constant speed of 500 mm/min. Results: All tested groups exhibited elastic recovery values meeting ISO standards for hydrocolloid impression materials. Regarding detail reproduction, both the control and modified alginates successfully reproduced the 50-µm line without interruption in all specimens. Tear strength values for all tested groups remained within the acceptable documented ranges, surpassing the minimum requirement of 0.38 N/mm as mandated by ISO 21563:2021. The ZO + AgNPs (0.94 ± 0.17 N/mm) demonstrated significantly higher tear strength values and surface roughness values compared to the other tested groups. Conclusions: Chlorhexidine, Syzygium aromaticum, and Zingiber officinale green-synthesized silver nanoparticles are promising, cost-effective alternatives for disinfecting alginate impressions without compromising performance. Microneedles are mainly used for pain-free drug administration and in biosensing for wearable systems. They are also promising for fields such as agronomy for precision farming, but their fabrication is not straightforward, often requiring expensive equipment and cleanroom protocols, being unsuitable for mass production. Here, we report a new and simple method for the scalable fabrication of all-inkjet-printed conductive microneedles based on silver nanoparticles (extensible to any other metallic nanoparticle ink) and a simple example of their application for monitoring the electrochemical properties of plants. Currently, Nano-materials have been explored for their abundant biomedical applications. In the present study the green synthesized (SC-AgNPs) by root extract of Smilax Chenensis have been characterized by UV–visible spectroscopy revealed SPR peak at 432 nm and FT-IR data reveals that the bioactive components of root extract have been actively involved in the reduction and stabilization of SC-AgNPs. TEM and AFM results revealed that SC-AgNPs were roughly spherical in shape. Further, the particle size of SC-AgNPs was also carried out by Dynamic Light Scattering method by aqueous colloidal solution and the results reveals that the SC-AgNPs are poly-dispersed in nature with an average size 45.6 nm with a Z average of 39.5 nm. The stability of colloidal SC-AgNPs was further confirmed by negative zeta potential value of − 21.0 mV. The SC-AgNPs showed good antibacterial activity against both gram –ve and gram + ve bacteria, whereas, SC-AgNPs coupled with antibiotic reveals excellent and enhanced antibacterial activity. The gram –ve E.coli and gram + ve S.aureus revealed highest zone of inhibition when compared to other two bacterial species. So, SC-AgNPs coupled with antibiotics can be excellent alternative to treat antibiotic resistant bacteria. The SC-AgNPs also reveals excellent antioxidant activity among them DPPH method revealed superior activity with an IC50 value76.22. The SC-AgNPs also reveals superior anticancer activity against MDA-MB-231 with IC50 value of 33.98 µg/mL and photo-catalytic activity the optical density of reduced from 1.861 to 0.135 OD within 30 min. Nanotechnology has been a central focus of scientific investigation over the past decades owing to its versatile applications. The synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) through plant secondary metabolites is a cost-effective and eco-friendly approach. The present study employed Brassica carinata microgreen extracts (BCME) to promote the reduction of silver nitrate (AgNO3) salt into Brassica carinata microgreen silver nanoparticles (BCM-AgNPs). The physicochemical properties of the biosynthesized AgNPs were characterized through both spectroscopy and microscopy techniques. Furthermore, the antimicrobial property of the biosynthesized AgNPs was assessed against six selected pathogenic microorganisms, and finally, their safety was evaluated on a normal Vero cell line through an MTT cytotoxicity assay. The UV-visible spectrum revealed that BCM-AgNPs exhibited an absorption peak at 420 nm. The potential functional groups involved in the biosynthesis of AgNPs were identified by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) analysis. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) revealed a spherical nature of the biosynthesized AgNPs. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis revealed the crystallinity of the AgNPs, averaging 34.68 nm in size. X-ray diffraction (XRD) investigation further confirmed the crystalline structure of the AgNPs. The zeta potential exhibited a significant value of − 22.5 ± 1.16 mV. Regarding the antimicrobial potential, BCM-AgNPs exhibited promising antimicrobial activity against the tested pathogens, with a minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of 62.5 µg/mL observed in Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Further cytotoxicity assessment of BCM-AgNPs conducted on Vero cells demonstrated their safety. Developing sustainable and eco-friendly methods for nanoparticle (NP) production in an era of environmental consciousness is crucial. This study introduces a novel approach to synthesizing silver (Ag) NPs using Citrus paradisi leaves extract (CPLE) as a green precursor at optimum conditions of the AgNO3 (2 mM) with CPLE in 1:3 ratio, at pH 14 and 80 °C temperature for reaction time of 4 h. The CP@AgNPs were formed and stabilized by Naringen, a major Citrus paradisi component. CP@AgNPs were thoroughly characterized through ultraviolet−visible (UV−vis) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) imaging techniques. CP@AgNPs demonstrated SPR peak at 450 nm, face cubic crystal structure, the average size of 8 nm, rod-shaped particle adsorbed on quasi-spherical shaped agglomerated NPs, significantly impacting both environmental and biomedical fields. In the catalytic degradation experiment, an application for environment pollutant reducer, CP@AgNPs, achieved an impressive 85% degradation efficiency of the methyl orange (MO) dye, showcasing their potential as a sustainable solution for wastewater treatment. Additionally, CP@AgNPs exhibited potent anti-biofilm properties, with half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) values of 0.13 and 0.12 mg/ml against Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus), respectively, indicating their promise in addressing biofilm-related issues in healthcare and industrial settings. CP@AgNPs also displayed exceptional antioxidant potential with IC50 values of 2.02, 0.07, and 0.035 mg/ml for CPLE, CP@AgNPs, and ascorbic acid, respectively, in scavenging DPPH radical, suggesting their utility in biomedical applications for mitigating oxidative stress. Notably, the bio-activity results of CP@AgNPs surpassed those of CP leaf extract, highlighting the enhanced properties achieved through this green synthesis approach. This study presents a simple and an environmentally friendly approach to make Laser-Induced Graphene (LIG) based supercapacitor electrodes anchored with abundant Silver Nanoparticles (AgNPs). LIG, was synthesized using a CO2 laser writing technique on polyimide substrate. The LIG-Ag composite was prepared using two techniques, drop-coating, and screen-printing. Ag nanoparticles prepared using the plant extract of Swietenia Macrophylla was utilized to drop-coat AgNP on LIG substrate. Screen-printing was done by using a commercial Ag-ink and a suitable mesh. The supercapacitor made from screen-printed electrodes and supercapacitor made form drop-coated electrodes showed a high specific capacitance of 118 mF/cm2, 38 mF/cm2, and a high energy density of 2.42 mWh/cm2, 0.05 mWh/cm2 respectively. Nanocomposite films of (30% PVC/70% PVDF) blend containing silver nanoparticles were synthesized via pulsed laser ablation route (PLA). Changes in physical characterization of PVC/PVDF blend before and after the incorporation of AgNPs have been studied. FTIR results confirms the interaction between AgNPs and PVC/PVDF. XRD results obtain the existence of peak at 38.42̊ in sample PVC/PVDF/Ag4 which confirm the embedded AgNPs in the high concentration. SEM photos confirm the distribution of silver nanoparticles on the surface of the sample in spherical shape which approved the dispersion of silver nanoparticles in PVC/PVDF blend. The inhibitory zone diameters observed for PVC/PVDF/Ag4 against Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumonia, Staphylococcus aureus, and Bacillus cereus were recorded as 11 ± 1, 10 ± 1, 15.7 ± 0.6, and 17.7 ± 0.6, respectively. Doxycycline (Doxy) is a tetracycline antibiotic with a potent antibacterial activity against a broad range of bacteria. Using nanotechnology is one feasible way to increase the antibiotics' ability to penetrate the body and increase their antibacterial effectiveness. In this work, we report the formation of a stable green synthesized silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) by chitosan with Doxy nanocomposite for the first time. The obtained nanoparticles were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), zeta-potential, UV-Visible spectroscopy and four transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIRs). The antibacterial effect of doxy, AgNPs and doxy/AgNPs were determined on Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus mutans and Gram-negative Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumonia. This combined therapeutic agent restored the susceptibility of doxy and showed an antibacterial activity against tested bacteria. AgNPs has absorption peak at 445 nm, mixing of Doxy with AgNPs causes all doxy absorptions to red shift and a broadening in surface plasmon resonance (SPR) for AgNPs and show a slight increase in particle size of AgNPs from 12 ± 2 nm to 14 ± 2 nm with high stability as zeta potential was 29 mv and 48.5mv for AgNPs and Doxy/AgNPs respectively. The antibacterial effect of Doxy/AgNPs nanocomposite was found to be twice effect of free doxy, suggesting a synergistic interaction between the two components. In conclusion, synergy of doxy with AgNPs is quite promising for antibiotic resistant strains. These results highlight the ability of AgNPs to boost the efficacy of the doxycycline. Morphine, as one of the most important narcotic drugs, significantly affects the nervous system and increases euphoria, which raises the likelihood of its misuse. Therefore, its measurement is of great importance. In this work, a new electrochemical sensor based on a nanocomposite of CuS/g-C3N5/AgNPs was developed for modifying Screen printed carbon electrodes (SPCEs) and used for the measurement of morphine through cyclic voltammetry and differential pulse voltammetry. Various analytical methods initially characterized the nanocomposite. The prepared sensor, which also has an extensive surface area, achieved a detection limit of 0.01 µM for morphine in a concentration range of 0.05–100 µM at pH 7. Besides its excellent capability in measuring morphine in real samples, the sensor exhibits good stability, reproducibility, and repeatability. The presence of CuS, due to its excellent high surface area alongside silver nanoparticles, leads to an increase in the conductivity of the g-C3N5 modified electrode, resulting in an increased oxidative current of morphine at the surface of the prepared sensor. Therefore, measuring low concentrations of morphine with this sensor was made possible. Additionally, measuring morphine without interference from various species is a strong point of the electrochemical sensor for morphine detection, and combined with the simplicity and ease of the method, it allows for morphine measurements to be conducted in the shortest possible time. In this research, active packaging which was made of all-natural component hydrogels from nanocellulose composited with silver nanoparticles at various concentrations (AgH) was studied. The concentration of silver nanoparticles ranged from 0.0078 to 0.0624 phr. AgH was characterized in terms of basic properties, functional properties, and packaging applications. Biocompatibility testing with the Caco-2 cell line showed that higher concentrations of silver (higher than 0.0312 phr) provided a lower cell viability rate (lower than 70% cell viability). Here, 0.0156 phr of silver nanoparticle concentration was the maximum loading that is safe for the target cell (82% cell viability) and was thus selected for use as active packaging. The antimicrobial activity showed that AgH at all concentrations inhibited both Gram bacteria up to 99.99%. Total volatile basic nitrogen compound testing showed that chicken meat preserved by AgH had the lowest values, indicating that AgH can prolong the shelf life in freshness level 1 (15% TVB-N) for 6.2 days compared to 3.9 and 4.1 days of blank and neat cellulose hydrogel. Immunotherapy is a promising treatment for cancer that aims to boost the immune system's response to cancer cells. This can be achieved by blocking Programmed cell death protein 1/Programmed death-ligand 1 (PD1/PDL1), which activates T cells. In this work, the aim was to find high-affinity drugs against PDL1 using computational tools and conjugate nanoparticles with them. The cytotoxic activity of the nanoparticle conjugated drugs was then tested. The screening of 100,000 drugs from the ZINC database and FDA-approved drugs was done computationally. The physicochemical properties and toxicity of the drugs were analyzed using SwissADME and ProTox-II, respectively. Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) and gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) were synthesized using extracts of Catharanthus roseus flowers and Juglans regia shells, respectively. The characterization of AgNPs and AuNPs was performed using UV–Vis spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Their conjugation with the drugs Irinotecan, Imatinib, and Methotrexate was also confirmed using UV–Vis, FTIR, and Dynamic light scattering (DLS). The top screened drugs were ZINC1098661 and 3 FDA-approved drugs (Irinotecan, Imatinib, and Methotrexate). Docking studies revealed that Irinotecan had the highest binding affinity towards PDL1 when conjugated with silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) and gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). The Irinotecan-PDL1 complex was confirmed as the most stable through molecular dynamics simulations. The result of the methylthiazol tetrazolium (MTT) assay showed that conjugated AgNPs and AuNPs with Irinotecan had a higher toxic effect on the A549 cancer cell line than AgNPs and AuNPs conjugated with Imatinib. This study investigates a carbon-based all-perovskite tandem solar cell (AP-TSC) with the structure ITO, SnO₂, Cs₀.₂FA₀.₈Pb(I₀.₇Br₀.₃)₃, WS₂, MoO₃, ITO, C₆₀, MAPb₀.₅Sn₀.₅I₃, PEDOT: PSS, Carbon. The bandgap configuration of the cell is 1.75 eV/1.17 eV, which is theoretically limited to 36% efficiency. The effectiveness of embedding cubic plasmonic metallic nanoparticles (NPs) made of Gold (Au) and Silver (Ag) within the absorber layers to eliminate the requirement for thicker absorber layers, decrease manufacturing costs and Pb toxicity is demonstrated in our analysis. This analysis was conducted using 3D Finite Element Method (FEM) simulations for both optical and electrical calculations. Prior to delving into the primary investigation of the tandem structure, a validation simulation was conducted to demonstrate the accuracy and reliability of the simulations. Notably, the efficiency mismatch observed during the validation simulation, specifically in relation to the incorporation of metallic nanoparticles (NPs), amounted to a mere 0.01%. To mitigate the potential issues of direct contact between metallic NPs and perovskite materials, such as increased thermal and chemical instability and recombination at the NP surface, a 5 nm dielectric shell was applied to the NPs. The incorporation of cubic core-shell Ag NPs resulted in a 15.32% enhancement in short-circuit current density, from 16.39 mA/cm² to 18.90 mA/cm², and a 15.68% increase in overall efficiency, from 26.9 to 31.12%. This research paves the way for the integration of core-shell metallic NPs in AP-TSCs, highlighting a significant potential for efficiency and stability improvements. In a dedicated section the band alignment of the sub-cell was addressed. Additionally, a thermal investigation of the proposed tandem structure was conducted, demonstrating the robustness of the proposed AP-TSC. Hydroxyapatite (HAp) and hydroxyapatite-based materials show promising potential in the healthcare sector due to their distinctive properties such as biocompatibility, antimicrobial efficacy, non-toxicity, and robust mechanical characteristics. This makes HAp materials play an important role in hindering infection spreading in healthcare provider institutions. This study assesses the antimicrobial efficacy of the developed hydroxyapatite-based composites incorporating copper, zinc, and silver nanoparticles. The synthesized HAp and its modified composite variants (Cu/HAp, Zn/HAp, and Ag/HAp) with varying ratios ranging from 0 to 15% (wt) were characterized using XRD, XPS, SEM, and TEM analyses. Furthermore, the antibacterial and antifungal properties of the synthesized HAp and HAp-based composites were evaluated. The antibacterial effectiveness of the HAp and its composites was evaluated using a modified disc diffusion test, where the resulting inhibition zones on the agar surface were observed. All the HAp and HAp-based composites (HAp, Cu/HAp, Zn/HAp, and Ag/HAp materials) elicited in the formation of inhibitory zones. The most substantial inhibition values were observed for the 5% Ag/HAp formulation, with values of 19.7 and 13.8, against E. coli and S. aureus, respectively. The 5% Ag/HAp concentration may strike an ideal balance, providing high antimicrobial activity without adverse effects on biocompatibility or material stability. These findings underscore the recommendation of the proposed HAp-based composites for infection control measures through their application on medical instruments, textiles, healthcare personnel attire, and patient garments. Abstract Microneedles are mainly used for pain-free drug administration and in biosensing for wearable systems. They are also promising for fields such as agronomy for precision farming, but their fabrication is not straightforward, often requiring expensive equipment and cleanroom protocols, being unsuitable for mass production. Here, we report a new and simple method for the scalable fabrication of all-inkjet-printed conductive microneedles based on silver nanoparticles (extensible to any other metallic nanoparticle ink) and a simple example of their application for monitoring the electrochemical properties of plants.

Abstract Currently, Nano-materials have been explored for their abundant biomedical applications. In the present study the green synthesized (SC-AgNPs) by root extract of Smilax Chenensis have been characterized by UV–visible spectroscopy revealed SPR peak at 432 nm and FT-IR data reveals that the bioactive components of root extract have been actively involved in the reduction and stabilization of SC-AgNPs. TEM and AFM results revealed that SC-AgNPs were roughly spherical in shape. Further, the particle size of SC-AgNPs was also carried out by Dynamic Light Scattering method by aqueous colloidal solution and the results reveals that the SC-AgNPs are poly-dispersed in nature with an average size 45.6 nm with a Z average of 39.5 nm. The stability of colloidal SC-AgNPs was further confirmed by negative zeta potential value of − 21.0 mV. The SC-AgNPs showed good antibacterial activity against both gram –ve and gram + ve bacteria, whereas, SC-AgNPs coupled with antibiotic reveals excellent and enhanced antibacterial activity. The gram –ve E.coli and gram + ve S.aureus revealed highest zone of inhibition when compared to other two bacterial species. So, SC-AgNPs coupled with antibiotics can be excellent alternative to treat antibiotic resistant bacteria. The SC-AgNPs also reveals excellent antioxidant activity among them DPPH method revealed superior activity with an IC50 value76.22. The SC-AgNPs also reveals superior anticancer activity against MDA-MB-231 with IC50 value of 33.98 µg/mL and photo-catalytic activity the optical density of reduced from 1.861 to 0.135 OD within 30 min. The green SC-AgNPs detected to have multiple therapeutic applications.

Abstract Nanotechnology has been a central focus of scientific investigation over the past decades owing to its versatile applications. The synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) through plant secondary metabolites is a cost-effective and eco-friendly approach. The present study employed Brassica carinata microgreen extracts (BCME) to promote the reduction of silver nitrate (AgNO3) salt into Brassica carinata microgreen silver nanoparticles (BCM-AgNPs). The physicochemical properties of the biosynthesized AgNPs were characterized through both spectroscopy and microscopy techniques. Furthermore, the antimicrobial property of the biosynthesized AgNPs was assessed against six selected pathogenic microorganisms, and finally, their safety was evaluated on a normal Vero cell line through an MTT cytotoxicity assay. The UV-visible spectrum revealed that BCM-AgNPs exhibited an absorption peak at 420 nm. The potential functional groups involved in the biosynthesis of AgNPs were identified by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) analysis. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) revealed a spherical nature of the biosynthesized AgNPs. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis revealed the crystallinity of the AgNPs, averaging 34.68 nm in size. X-ray diffraction (XRD) investigation further confirmed the crystalline structure of the AgNPs. The zeta potential exhibited a significant value of − 22.5 ± 1.16 mV. Regarding the antimicrobial potential, BCM-AgNPs exhibited promising antimicrobial activity against the tested pathogens, with a minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of 62.5 µg/mL observed in Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Further cytotoxicity assessment of BCM-AgNPs conducted on Vero cells demonstrated their safety. This study presents a novel approach to synthesizing AgNPs using a nutraceutical microgreen, offering a biocompatible and promising alternative for combating multi-drug resistance.

Abstract This study presents a simple and an environmentally friendly approach to make Laser-Induced Graphene (LIG) based supercapacitor electrodes anchored with abundant Silver Nanoparticles (AgNPs). LIG, was synthesized using a CO2 laser writing technique on polyimide substrate. The LIG-Ag composite was prepared using two techniques, drop-coating, and screen-printing. Ag nanoparticles prepared using the plant extract of Swietenia Macrophylla was utilized to drop-coat AgNP on LIG substrate. Screen-printing was done by using a commercial Ag-ink and a suitable mesh. The supercapacitor made from screen-printed electrodes and supercapacitor made form drop-coated electrodes showed a high specific capacitance of 118 mF/cm2, 38 mF/cm2, and a high energy density of 2.42 mWh/cm2, 0.05 mWh/cm2 respectively. The screen-printed composite of LIG and AgNP was further studied for its anti-fungal properties and proved to be effective against Candida sp.

Abstract Nanocomposite films of (30% PVC/70% PVDF) blend containing silver nanoparticles were synthesized via pulsed laser ablation route (PLA). Changes in physical characterization of PVC/PVDF blend before and after the incorporation of AgNPs have been studied. FTIR results confirms the interaction between AgNPs and PVC/PVDF. XRD results obtain the existence of peak at 38.42̊ in sample PVC/PVDF/Ag4 which confirm the embedded AgNPs in the high concentration. SEM photos confirm the distribution of silver nanoparticles on the surface of the sample in spherical shape which approved the dispersion of silver nanoparticles in PVC/PVDF blend. The inhibitory zone diameters observed for PVC/PVDF/Ag4 against Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumonia, Staphylococcus aureus, and Bacillus cereus were recorded as 11 ± 1, 10 ± 1, 15.7 ± 0.6, and 17.7 ± 0.6, respectively. PVC/PVDF/AgNPs nanocomposite film could be suggested for biomedical applications such as wound healing products.

Abstract In this research, active packaging which was made of all-natural component hydrogels from nanocellulose composited with silver nanoparticles at various concentrations (AgH) was studied. The concentration of silver nanoparticles ranged from 0.0078 to 0.0624 phr. AgH was characterized in terms of basic properties, functional properties, and packaging applications. Biocompatibility testing with the Caco-2 cell line showed that higher concentrations of silver (higher than 0.0312 phr) provided a lower cell viability rate (lower than 70% cell viability). Here, 0.0156 phr of silver nanoparticle concentration was the maximum loading that is safe for the target cell (82% cell viability) and was thus selected for use as active packaging. The antimicrobial activity showed that AgH at all concentrations inhibited both Gram bacteria up to 99.99%. Total volatile basic nitrogen compound testing showed that chicken meat preserved by AgH had the lowest values, indicating that AgH can prolong the shelf life in freshness level 1 (15% TVB-N) for 6.2 days compared to 3.9 and 4.1 days of blank and neat cellulose hydrogel. In addition, all AgH were gradually degraded over time and eventually disappeared within 15–30 days in organic soil.

Abstract The need to identify ammonia is necessary because of its harmful effects on the environment and humans. In this study, a colorimetric method was also developed for the detection of ammonia using silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) synthesized with the green approach. Biosynthesis of AgNPs was performed by silver nitrate as a silver precursor and Smyrnium cordifolium extract as a reducing and stabilizing agent. Plant extract was studied by FTIR and LC/Mass techniques. The optimization of the effective parameters was carried out with central composite design according to silver nitrate concentration, plant extract volume, pH, and temperature. Biosynthetic nano-silver was characterized with XRD, EDS/EDX, FE-SEM, FTIR, TGA, and DLS methods. The AgNPs was validated for ammonia colorimetric detection. Biosynthesis of AgNPs were increased in 20 mM AgNO3, 5 ml Smyrnium cordifolium extract, pH 10, and the temperature of 70 °C. Crystal form of AgNPs characterized with XRD at 2Ѳ value of 38.34°, 44.19°, 64.74°, and 77.59° and spherical shape highlighted in the range between 77.8 and 93 nm. Plant extract consisted of polyphenol (phenolic acid, flavonoid, and terpenoid), fatty acid, amino acid, sugar, purine, and organic acid. AgNPs were used for colorimetric detection of ammonia by shifting the λmax from 580 to 490 nm. A method for ammonia detection was set up, with linear range of 0.5–200 ppm, detection limit of 0.028 ppm and recovery level of 96.3 ± 6.5%. In conclusion, a new biosynthetic method by specified local plant was developed to propose a simple and sensitive colorimetric method for soluble ammonia detection.

Abstract Long-term oral health issues caused by fungi and bacteria are a primary concern for individuals who wear dentures. Denture stomatitis, primarily caused by Candida albicans (C. albicans), is a prevalent condition among denture users. Metal nanoparticles exhibit improved antimicrobial effectiveness and fewer adverse effects. This study aimed to evaluate the antifungal and antibacterial effects of nystatin-coated silver nanoparticles (Nys-coated AgNPs) embedded in acrylic resin as a more biocompatible material for denture resins. AgNPs and Nys-coated AgNPs were synthesized and characterized using UV-Vis, SEM, EDX, and DLS. Specimens of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) with three different concentrations of Nys, AgNPs, and Nys-coated AgNPs (0.1%, 1%, 10% w/w) were prepared. The water absorption properties of the disks and drug release were investigated for 14 days and 120 h, respectively. The hydrophilic and hydrophobic properties of the samples and their contact angles were evaluated using the sessile drop technique. The antifungal and antimicrobial activity of the prepared discs was studied against C. albicans and Streptococcus mutans, respectively. Adding Nys-coated AgNPs decreased the contact angle of discs from 67° to 49°. Furthermore, the water absorption rates of the different discs were not significantly different from those of the control groups. Results showed that Nys-coated AgNPs (10% w/w) in PMMA effectively inhibited C. albicans growth better than Nys composites (10% w/w). Additionally, Nys-coated AgNPs composites, as well as AgNPs-containing composites, showed considerable antibacterial activity against S. mutans. Nys-coated AgNPs (10% w/w) had no toxic effect on NIH3T3 cells. In conclusion, Nys-coated AgNPs could be considered a good candidate for incorporation into denture resins to address chronic oral diseases.

Abstract Bryophyllum pinnatum is used to cure infections worldwide. Although the flavonoids of this plant are well known, it is still unknown how much of the plant’s Ag and ZnO nanoparticles are beneficial. In the current research work, silver and zinc oxide nanoparticles were prepared using Bryophyllum pinnatum extract. The synthesized particles were characterized by UV-visible spectroscopy, SEM, EDS, XRD and FTIR. Synthesized particles were subjected to evaluation of their bactericidal and antifungal activity at various doses. Uv vis spectra at 400 nm corresponding to AgNPs confirmed their synthesis. Strong peaks in the EDS spectra of Ag and ZnO indicate the purity of the sample. The scanning electron microscopic images of ZnONPs showed a size of about 60 nm ± 3 nm, which demonstrated the presence of triangular-shaped ZnO nanoparticles. Green synthesized nanoparticles showed bactericidal activity against both Gram-positive (Micrococcus luteus, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis) and Gram-negative (Agrobacterium tumifaciens, Salmonella setubal, Enterobacter aerogenes) strains. AgNPs proved to be more effective against Gram-negative bacterial strains compared to Gram-positive owing to MIC values (10 ppm and 20 ppm respectively). Whereas, ZnONPs were found more effective against Gram-positive bacteria with lower MIC values (10 ppm) as compared to Gram-negative ones (20 ppm). Also, the synthesized nanoparticles exhibited moderate dose-dependent antifungal activity against tested fungal strains ranging from 10 to 70%. Cytotoxicity of nanoparticles was found significant using Brine shrimp’s lethality assay with IC50 values of 4.09 ppm for AgNPs, 13.72 ppm for ZnONPs, and 24.83 ppm for plant extract. Conclusively, Ag and ZnO nanoparticles were more effective than plant extract and AgNPs had higher activities than those of ZnONPs. Further research is warranted to explore the precise mechanism of action and the potential applications of these nanoparticles in the medical field.

Abstract Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have been successfully synthesized using leaf extract of Neem (Azadirachta Indica), Mint (Mentha Piperita), Tulsi (Ocimum Tenuiflorum), Bermuda grass (Cynodon Dactylon) and silver salt. As plant extracts produce best capping material for the stabilization of nanoparticles. AgNPs were characterized by UV–Vis spectroscopy in range of 200–800 nm and transmission electron microscopy TEM, XRD and FTIR. The nanoparticles synthesized were mainly in sizes between 25 and 100 nm. They appeared to be spherical, nanotriangles and irregular in shape. Catalytic application was observed for all the aqueous solution of leaves, quantity taken was 1 ml, 2 ml, 3 ml, 4 ml and 5 ml. Furthermore, prepared Ag nanoparticles are also used for seed germination.

Abstract Silver nanoparticles were successfully incorporated into a melamine-based polymer, resulting in the synthesis of (Ag NPs@Bipy-PAN) through a reverse double solvent approach. The synthesised Ag NPs@Bipy-PAN polymer underwent extensive characterisation through Powder X-ray Diffraction (PXRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Transmission Electron Microscopy and Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX) and Thermal Gravimetric Analysis. PXRD analysis confirmed the successful encapsulation of Ag nanoparticles and provided insights into the amorphous nature of the polymer following encapsulation. SEM and EDX analyses further corroborated the presence and distribution of Ag nanoparticles on the polymer surface. The biological efficacy of the Ag NPs@Bipy-PAN polymer was evaluated through antibacterial, anti-breast cancer, and biocompatibility assays. The results demonstrated notable antibacterial and anticancer activities, with significant efficacy against bacterial strains and breast cancer cells. Biocompatibility assessments indicated acceptable compatibility, particularly at a concentration of 2.5 mg/mL, compared to untreated control cells. These findings suggest that Ag NPs@Bipy-PAN has considerable potential as a candidate for cancer-targeted and antimicrobial drug delivery systems. The incorporation of silver nanoparticles into the melamine-based polymer enhances the safety profile of these systems in in vivo conditions, making them a viable option for advanced therapeutic applications.

Abstract The effect of silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) obtained in the presence of royal jelly (RJ) on the growth of yeast Candida guilliermondii NP-4, on the total and H+-ATPase activity, as well as lipid peroxidation process and antioxidant enzymes (superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase) activity was studied. It has been shown that RJ-mediated Ag NPs have a fungicide and fungistatic effects at the concentrations of 5.4 µg mL−1 and 27 µg mL−1, respectively. Under the influence of RJ-mediated Ag NPs, a decrease in total and H+-ATPase activity in yeast homogenates by ~ 90% and ~ 80% was observed, respectively. In yeast mitochondria total and H+-ATPase activity depression was detected by ~ 80% and ~ 90%, respectively. The amount of malondialdehyde in the Ag NPs exposed yeast homogenate increased ~ 60%, the catalase activity increased ~ 70%, and the SOD activity—~ 30%. The obtained data indicate that the use of RJ-mediated Ag NPs have a diverse range of influence on yeast cells. This approach may be important in the field of biomedical research aimed at evaluating the development of oxidative stress in cells. It may also contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of antimicrobial properties of RJ-mediated Ag NPs and help control the proliferation of pathogenic fungi.

Abstract The beekeeping industry plays a crucial role in local economies, contributing significantly to their growth. However, bee colonies often face the threat of American foulbrood (AFB), a dangerous disease caused by the Gram-positive bacterium Paenibacillus larvae (P. l.). While the antibiotic Tylosin has been suggested as a treatment, its bacterial resistance necessitates the search for more effective alternatives. This investigation focused on evaluating the potential of bee venom (BV) and silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) as antibacterial agents against AFB. In vitro treatments were conducted using isolated AFB bacterial samples, with various concentrations of BV and Ag NPs (average size: 25nm) applied individually and in combination. The treatments were administered under both light and dark conditions. The viability of the treatments was assessed by monitoring the lifespans of treated bees and evaluating the treatment's efficiency within bee populations. Promising results were obtained with the use of Ag NPs, which effectively inhibited the progression of AFB. Moreover, the combination of BV and Ag NPs, known as bee venom/silver nanocomposites (BV/Ag NCs), significantly extended the natural lifespan of bees from 27 to 40 days. Notably, oral administration of BV in varying concentrations (1.53, 3.12, and 6.25 mg/mL) through sugary syrup doubled the bees' lifespan compared to the control group. The study established a significant correlation between the concentration of each treatment and the extent of bacterial inhibition. BV/Ag NCs demonstrated 1.4 times greater bactericidal efficiency under photo-stimulation with visible light compared to darkness, suggesting that light exposure enhances the effectiveness of BV/Ag NCs. The combination of BV and Ag NPs demonstrated enhanced antibacterial efficacy and prolonged honeybee lifespan. These results offer insights that can contribute to the development of safer and more efficient antibacterial agents for maintaining honeybee health.

Fish-borne zoonotic trematodes (FBZTs) pose significant health risks and economic challenges worldwide. This study investigated the prevalence of encysted metacercariae (EMCs) in Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) from two Egyptian governorates and evaluated the antiparasitic efficacy of chitosan, silver, and selenium nanoparticles against these parasites. A cross-sectional analysis of 453 O. niloticus specimens revealed an overall EMC prevalence of 40.8%, with infection rates of 34.11% in Giza and 49.5% in Dakahlia. Clinostomid and Prohemistomid metacercariae were the most common, with mixed infections observed. Transmission electron microscopy characterized the synthesized nanoparticles, showing average diameters of 9.6–18.7 nm for chitosan, 13.2–19.8 nm for selenium, and 11.7–15.1 nm for silver nanoparticles. In vitro antiparasitic assays demonstrated varying efficacies among the nanoparticles. Against Clinostomum spp. metacercariae, chitosan nanoparticles showed the highest potency, achieving LC50 at 66 μg/ml after 30 min and LC90 at 100 μg/ml after 120 min. For Prohemistomum vivax EMCs, chitosan nanoparticles exhibited superior efficacy, achieving LC50 at 8 μg/ml after 1 h and LC90 at 16 μg/ml after 2 h. Silver and selenium nanoparticles showed lower efficacy for both parasite species. Scanning electron microscopy revealed significant ultrastructural damage to the parasite tegument following nanoparticle exposure, including disappearance of transverse ridges, integument shrinkage, and formation of blebs. This study provided valuable insights into the prevalence of FBZTs in Egyptian Nile tilapia and demonstrated the potential of nanoparticles, particularly chitosan, as effective antiparasitic agents. These findings pave the way for developing novel, targeted strategies to control fish-borne zoonotic trematodes, potentially reducing their impact on public health and aquaculture economies. AgNPs proved to be more effective against Gram-negative bacterial strains compared to Gram-positive owing to MIC values (10 ppm and 20 ppm respectively). Whereas, ZnONPs were found more effective against Gram-positive bacteria with lower MIC values (10 ppm) as compared to Gram-negative ones (20 ppm). Also, the synthesized nanoparticles exhibited moderate dose-dependent antifungal activity against tested fungal strains ranging from 10 to 70%. Cytotoxicity of nanoparticles was found significant using Brine shrimp’s lethality assay with IC50 values of 4.09 ppm for AgNPs, 13.72 ppm for ZnONPs, and 24.83 ppm for plant extract. Conclusively, Ag and ZnO nanoparticles were more effective than plant extract and AgNPs had higher activities than those of ZnONPs. This is the primary study at Matrouh Governorate to unveil antibiotic resistance, biofilm formation, silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) effect using electron microscopy, and REP-PCR analysis of Staphylococcus aureus strains isolated from COVID-19 patients, contaminated food, and Morel's diseased sheep and goats. A total of 15 S. aureus strains were isolated; five from each of the COVID-19 patients, Morel's diseased sheep and goats, and contaminated food. All strains were considered multidrug-resistant (MDR). All strains showed the presence of biofilm. Morphological changes in the cell surface of the bacterium were evidenced, and penetration with the rupture of some bacterial cells. Based on REP-PCR analysis, 4 clusters (C1-C4) with dissimilarity between clusters C1 and C2 8% and between C3 and C4 15%. Cluster I included 3 strains from contaminated food with a similarity of 97%, and Cluster II included 2 strains from contaminated food and 2 from COVID-19-infected patients with a similarity of 96% (confirming the zoonotic nature of this pathogen). Cluster III contained 4 strains isolated from Morel's diseased sheep & goats with a similarity ratio of 99% in comparison the 4th cluster contained 3 strains isolated from COVID-patients and one from Morel's diseased sheep & goats with a similarity ratio of 92%. Silver nanowires (AgNWs) have excellent flexibility, unique optical transmittance and high conductivity. The polyol process is appropriate for preparing AgNWs due to its simplicity, effectiveness, low cost, and high yield. This work aims to investigate the effect of preparation parameters of the polyol process on the silver nanowires properties. The parameters include the controlling agent, molecular weight of the polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), the temperature, and the reducing agent. The amount of silver nanoparticles formed during preparation was used to determine the optimum preparation conditions. The transmission electron microscope (TEM) images showed minimal amount of Ag nanoparticles when using mixed molecular weight of PVP-40K, and PVP-1.3M at 150 °C with the assistance of copper chloride as a controlling agent. The prepared AgNWs had an average length of 3.7 µm and aspect ratio of 15.3. The fabricated electrodes were characterized using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and four probe resistivity measurements. The electrical measurement of the AgNWs electrodes indicated that the surfactant thickness is a critical parameter in having low sheet resistance electrodes. Also, the optical transmission was affected by the amount of nanoparticles. Breast cancer is one of cancer's most deadly varieties. Its variability makes the development of personalized therapies very difficult. Therefore, improvement of classic chemotherapy is still one of the important challenges of cancer research. We addressed this issue applying nanotechnology to verify the influence of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) on doxorubicin (DOX) anticancer activity and assess if the size of AgNPs affects their interactions with DOX. We employed a broad spectrum of biophysical methods, characterizing 5 and 50 nm AgNPs interactions with DOX using UV–Vis spectroscopy, dynamic light scattering, fluorescence spectroscopy, and atomic force microscopy imaging. Biological effects of observed AgNPs-DOX interactions were assessed utilizing MTT and 3D Matrigel assays on SKBR3 and MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cell lines. Obtained results indicate direct interactions between AgNPs and DOX. Furthermore, AgNPs size influences their interactions with DOX, as evidenced by differences in the heteroaggregates formation observed in biophysical experiments and further supported by in vitro biological assays. We detected reduction of tumor cell viability and/or colony sizes of the analyzed cancer cell lines, registering differences linked to the observed phenomenon. However, the effects may be limited to the outer borders of the tumor microenvironment as evidenced by the 3D model. Summing up, we observed diverse patterns of interactions and biological effects for different sizes of AgNPs with DOX providing insight how the nanoparticles' size affects their interactions with other biologically active compounds. Parasporin-2 (PS2Aa1 or Mpp46Aa1) is a Bacillus thuringiensis parasporal protein that preferentially destroys human cancer cells while not harming normal cells, making it a promising anticancer treatment. With the efficient development and sustainable silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) synthesis technology, the biomedical use of AgNPs has expanded. This study presents the development of a novel nanotoxin composed of biosynthesized silver nanoparticles loaded with the N-terminal truncated PS2Aa1 toxin. MOEAgNPs were synthesized using a biological method, with Moringa oleifera leaf extract and maltose serving as reducing and capping agents. The phytochemicals present in M. oleifera leaf extract were identified by GC–MS analysis. MOEAgNPs were loaded with N-terminal truncated PS2Aa1 fused with maltose-binding protein (MBP-tPS2) to formulate PS2-MOEAgNPs. The PS2-MOEAgNPs were evaluated for size, stability, toxin loading efficacy, and cytotoxicity. PS2-MOEAgNPs demonstrated dose-dependent cytotoxicity against the T-cell leukemia MOLT-4 and Jurkat cell lines but had little effect on the Hs68 fibroblast or normal cell line. Altogether, the current study provides robust evidence that PS2-MOEAgNPs can efficiently inhibit the proliferation of T-cell leukemia cells, thereby suggesting their potential as an alternative to traditional anticancer treatments.

Abstract Pancreatic cancer is one of the most aggressive forms of cancer, and treatment options are limited. One therapeutic approach is to use nanoparticles to deliver the active agent directly to pancreatic cancer cells. Nanoparticles can be designed to specifically target cancer cells, minimizing damage to healthy tissues. Silver nanoparticles have the unique ability to absorb light, especially in the near-infrared (NIR) region. In this study, silver nanoparticles functionalized with IgG molecules were synthesized and administered to pancreatic cancer cell lines. Subsequently, the cells were photo-excited using a 2 W 808 nm laser and further examined in PANC-1 pancreatic cancer cell lines. Flow cytometry and confocal microscopy combined with immunochemical staining were used to examine the interaction between photo-excited silver nanoparticles and pancreatic cancer cells. The photothermal therapy based on IgG-functionalized silver nanoparticles in pancreatic cancer induces dysfunction in the Golgi apparatus, leading to the activation of the caspase-3 apoptotic pathway and ultimately resulting in cellular apoptosis. These findings suggest that our proposed IgG nanoparticle laser treatment could emerge as a novel approach for the therapy of pancreatic cancer.

Abstract The present study focused on evaluating the antibacterial properties, radical scavenging, and photocatalytic activities of Centaurea behen-mediated silver nanoparticles (Cb-AgNPs). The formation of Cb-AgNPs was approved by UV–Vis spectrometry, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray and X-ray diffraction. The results showed that the obtained AgNPs have a maximum absorbance peak at 450 nm with spherical morphology and an average size of 13.03 ± 5.8 nm. The catalytic activity of the Cb-AgNPs was investigated using Safranin O (SO) solution as a cationic dye model. The Cb-AgNPs performed well in the removal of SO. The coupled physical adsorption/photocatalysis reaction calculated about 68% and 98% degradation of SO dye under solar irradiation. The Cb-AgNPs inhibited the growth of gram-negative or positive bacteria strains and had excellent DPPH radicals scavenging ability (100% in a concentration of 200 µg/ml) as well as a good effect on reducing coagulation time (at concentrations of 200 and 500 µg/mL reduced clotting time up to 3 min). Considering the fact that green synthesized Cb-AgNPs have antioxidant and antibacterial properties and have a good ability to reduce coagulation time, they can be used in wound dressings. As well as these NPs with good photocatalytic activity can be a suitable option for degrading organic pollutants.

Abstract Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have gained much attention due to their unique physical, and chemical properties. Integration of phytochemicals in nanoformulation might have higher applicability in healthcare. Current work demonstrates the synthesis of green AgNPs with O. gratissimum (gr-AgNPs) O. tenuiflorum (te-AgNPs) and O. americanum (am-AgNPs) followed by an evaluation of their antimicrobial and anticancer properties. SEM analysis revealed spherical-shaped particles with average particle sizes of 69.0 ± 5 nm for te-AgNPs, 46.9 ± 9 nm for gr-AgNPs, and 58.5 ± 18.7 nm for am-AgNPs with a polydispersity index below 0.4. The synthesized am-AgNPs effectively inhibited Klebsiella pneumonia , Escherichia coli , Staphylococcus aureus, Aspergillus niger, and Candida albicans with 23 ± 1.58 mm, 20 ± 1.68 mm, 22 ± 1.80 mm, 26 ± 1.85 mm, and 22 ± 1.40 nm of zone of inhibition respectively. Synthesized AgNPs also induced apoptotic cell death in MCF-7 in concentration-dependent manner. IC50 values for am-AgNPs, te-AgNPs, and gr-AgNPs were 14.78 ± 0.89 µg, 18.04 ± 0.63 and 15.41 ± 0.37 µg respectively which suggested that am-AgNPs were the most effective against cancer. At higher dose size (20 µg) AgNPs were equally effective to commercial standard Doxorubicin (DOX). In comparison to te-AgNPs and gr-AgNPs, am-AgNPs have higher in vitro anticancer and antimicrobial effects. The work reported Ocimum americanum for its anticancer properties with chemical profile (GCMS) and compared it with earlier reported species. The activity against microbial pathogens and selected cancer cells clearly depicted that these species have distinct variations in activity. The results have also emphasized on higher potential of biogenic silver nanoparticles in healthcare but before formulation of commercial products, detailed analysis is required with human and animal models.

Biological agents are getting a noticeable concern as efficient eco-friendly method for nanoparticle fabrication, from which fungi considered promising agents in this field. In the current study, two fungal species (Embellisia spp. and Gymnoascus spp.) were isolated from the desert soil in Saudi Arabia and identified using 18S rRNA gene sequencing then used as bio-mediator for the fabrication of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). Myco-synthesized AgNPs were characterized using UV–visible spectrometry, transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and dynamic light scattering techniques. Their antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, and Klebsiella pneumoniae were investigated. In atrial to detect their possible antibacterial mechanism, Sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS-PAGE) and TEM analysis were performed for Klebsiella pneumoniae treated by the myco-synthesized AgNPs. Detected properties of the fabricated materials indicated the ability of both tested fungal strains in successful fabrication of AgNPs having same range of mean size diameters and varied PDI. The efficiency of Embellisia spp. in providing AgNPs with higher antibacterial activity compared to Gymnoascus spp. was reported however, both indicated antibacterial efficacy. Variations in the protein profile of K. pneumoniae after treatments and ultrastructural changes were observed. Cassava root rot disease caused by the fungal pathogens Fusarium solani and Lasiodiplodia theobromae produces severe damages on cassava production. This research was conducted to produce and assess silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) synthesized by Trichoderma harzianum for reducing root rot disease. The results revealed that using the supernatants of T. harzianum on a silver nitrate solution changed it to reddish color at 48 h, indicating the formation of AgNPs. Further characterization was identified using dynamic light scattering (DLS) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). DLS supported that the Z-average size is at 39.79 nm and the mean zeta potential is at − 36.5 mV. SEM revealed the formation of monodispersed spherical shape with a diameter between 60–75 nm. The antibacterial action of AgNPs as an antifungal agent was demonstrated by an observed decrease in the size of the fungal colonies using an increasing concentration of AgNPs until the complete inhibition growth of L. theobromae and F. solani at > 58 µg mL−1 and at ≥ 50 µg mL−1, respectively. At in vitro conditions, the applied AgNPs caused a decrease in the percentage of healthy aerial hyphae of L. theobromae (32.5%) and of F. solani (70.0%) compared to control (100%). The SR-FTIR spectra showed the highest peaks in the first region (3000–2800 cm−1) associated with lipids and fatty acids located at 2962, 2927, and 2854 cm−1 in the AgNPs treated samples. The second region (1700–1450 cm−1) consisting of proteins and peptides revealed the highest peaks at 1658, 1641, and 1548 cm−1 in the AgNPs treated samples. The third region (1300–900 cm−1), which involves nucleic acid, phospholipids, polysaccharides, and carbohydrates, revealed the highest peaks at 1155, 1079, and 1027 cm−1 in the readings from the untreated samples. Finally, the observed root rot severity on cassava roots treated with AgNPs (1.75 ± 0.50) was significantly lower than the control samples (5.00 ± 0.00). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The current research aimed to study the green synthesis of silver oxide nanoparticles (AgONPs) using Rhynchosia capitata (RC) aqueous extract as a potent reducing and stabilizing agent. The obtained RC-AgONPs were characterized using UV, FT-IR, XRD, DLS, SEM, and EDX to investigate the morphology, size, and elemental composition. The size of the RC-AgONPs was found to be ~ 21.66 nm and an almost uniform distribution was executed by XRD analysis. In vitro studies were performed to reveal biological potential. The AgONPs exhibited efficient DPPH free radical scavenging potential (71.3%), reducing power (63.8 ± 1.77%), and total antioxidant capacity (88.5 ± 4.8%) to estimate their antioxidative power. Antibacterial and antifungal potentials were evaluated using the disc diffusion method against various bacterial and fungal strains, and the zones of inhibition (ZOI) were determined. A brine shrimp cytotoxicity assay was conducted to measure the cytotoxicity potential (LC50: 2.26 μg/mL). In addition, biocompatibility tests were performed to evaluate the biocompatible nature of RC-AgONPs using red blood cells, HEK, and VERO cell lines (< 200 μg/mL). An alpha-amylase inhibition assay was carried out with 67.6% inhibition. Moreover, In vitro, anticancer activity was performed against Hep-2 liver cancer cell lines, and an LC50 value of 45.94 μg/mL was achieved. Overall, the present study has demonstrated that the utilization of R. capitata extract for the biosynthesis of AgONPs offers a cost-effective, eco-friendly, and forthright alternative to traditional approaches for silver nanoparticle synthesis. Abstract Our study focused on the optical behavior, methylene blue (MB) dye degradation potential, antibacterial performance, and silver and trioxide mineral interaction with different bacterial species. We found that the addition of silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) to neodymium oxide (Nd2O3) resulted in a significant response, with an enlargement of the inhibition zone for bacterial species such as Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. Specifically, the inhibition zone for S. aureus increased from 9.3 ± 0.5 mm for pure Nd2O3 to 16.7 ± 0.4 mm for the Ag/Nd2O3 nano-composite, while for E. coli, it increased from 8.8 ± 0.4 mm for Nd2O3 to 15.9 ± 0.3 mm for Ag/Nd2O3. Furthermore, the optical behavior of the composites showed a clear band-gap narrowing with the addition of Ag NPs, resulting in enhanced electronic localization. The direct and indirect transitions reduced from 6.7 to 6.1 eV and from 5.2 to 2.9 eV, respectively. Overall, these results suggest that the Ag/Nd2O3 nano-composite has potential applications in sensor industries and water treatment, thanks to its enhanced optical behavior, antibacterial performance, and efficient MB degradation capabilities. In terms of MB degradation, the Ag/Nd2O3 mixed system exhibited more efficient degradation compared to pure Nd2O3. After 150 min, the MB concentration in the mixed system decreased to almost half of its starting point, while pure Nd2O3 only reached 33%.
