The influence of the aneurysm evolution on the hemodynamic characteristic of the blood flow inside the sac region is comprehensively investigated. By using the computational method, the blood flow through the vessel and aneurysm of the sac region is examined to find the role of aneurysm evolution on the wall shear stress, pressure, and risk of aneurysm rupture. Three different models of ICA aneurysms are chosen for the investigation of the aneurysm evolution at risk of rupture. Obtained data shows that the evolution of the aneurysm decreases the wall shear stress and pressure on the sac surface while an oscillatory index of blood increases on the aneurysm wall. The endovascular neural interface provides an appealing minimally invasive alternative to invasive brain electrodes for recording and stimulation. However, stents placed in blood vessels have long been known to affect blood flow (haemodynamics) and lead to neointimal growth within the blood vessel. Both the stent elements (struts and electrodes) and blood vessel wall geometries can affect the mechanical environment on the blood vessel wall, which could lead to unfavourable vascular remodelling after stent placement. With increasing applications of stents and stent-like neural interfaces in venous blood vessels in the brain, it is necessary to understand how stents affect blood flow and tissue growth in veins. We explored the haemodynamics of a stent-mounted neural interface in a blood vessel model. Results indicated that blood vessel deformation and tapering caused a substantial change to the lumen geometry and the haemodynamics. The neointimal proliferation was evaluated in sheep implanted with an endovascular neural interface. Analysis showed a negative correlation with the mean Wall Shear Stress pattern. In this study, the role of sac section area and parent vessel diameter on the hemodynamic feature of the blood flow in selected internal carotid artery (ICA) aneurysms is comprehensively investigated. The changes of wall shear stress, pressure, and oscillatory shear index (OSI) of blood stream on the vessel for various aneurysms with coiling treatment. To attain hemodynamic factors, computational technique is used for the modeling of non-Newtonian transient blood flow inside the three different ICA aneurysms. Three different saccular models with various Parent vessel mean Diameter is investigated in this study. The achieved outcomes show that increasing the diameter of the parent vessel directly decreases the OSI value on the sac surface. The present study analyzes the theoretical consequences of slip effects in a complex stenosed region. The flow of blood in a stenosed region is incorporated with hybrid nanofluid features which are being prepared with copper and copper oxide nanoparticles. The flow is also intensified by applying an electric field in the axial direction. The governing equations for the proposed paradigm are solved and the corresponding closed-form solutions are obtained for the cases of mild stenosis. Parameters such as Electro-osmotic, velocity slip and Helmholtz–Smoluchowski are specially focused in this study. The heat transfer, hemodynamic velocity, wall shear stress and resistance impedance for the flow are precisely determined. The various parameters that influence the physical characteristics of flow are plotted, and their effects are discussed in detail. Stroke occur mainly due to arterial thrombosis and rupture of cerebral blood vessels. Previous studies showed that blood flow-induced wall shear stress is an essential bio marker for estimating atherogenesis. It is a common practice to use computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations to calculate wall shear stress and to quantify blood flow. Reliability of predicted CFD results greatly depends on the accuracy of applied boundary conditions. Previously, the boundary conditions were estimated by varying values so that they matched the clinical data. It is applicable upon the availability of clinical data. Meanwhile, in most cases all that can be accessed are arterial geometry and inflow rate. Consequently, there is a need to devise a tool to estimate boundary values such as resistance and compliance of arteries. This study proposes an analytical framework to estimate the boundary conditions for a carotid artery based on the geometries of the downstream arteries available from clinical images. Vascular endothelial cells (ECs) respond to mechanical stimuli caused by blood flow to maintain vascular homeostasis. Although the oxygen level in vascular microenvironment is lower than the atmospheric one, the cellular dynamics of ECs under hypoxic and flow exposure are not fully understood. Here, we describe a microfluidic platform for the reproduction hypoxic vascular microenvironments. Simultaneous application of hypoxic stress and fluid shear stress to the cultured cells was achieved by integrating a microfluidic device and a flow channel that adjusted the initial oxygen concentration in a cell culture medium. An EC monolayer was then formed on the media channel in the device, and the ECs were observed after exposure to hypoxic and flow conditions. The migration velocity of the ECs immediately increased after flow exposure, especially in the direction opposite to the flow direction, and gradually decreased, resulting in the lowest value under the hypoxic and flow exposure condition. The ECs after 6-h simultaneous exposure to hypoxic stress and fluid shear stress were generally aligned and elongated in the flow direction, with enhanced VE-cadherin expression and actin filament assembly. To characterize the intracavitary blood flows in the right ventricle (RV) and right-ventricular outflow tract (RVOT) in 2 healthy probands, patients with arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC) and 2 endurance athletes, we performed 4D-MRI flow measurements to assess differences in kinetic energy and shear stresses. Time evolution of velocity magnitude, mean kinetic energy (MKE), turbulent kinetic energy (TKE) and viscous shear stress (VSS) were measured both along the whole RV and in the RVOT. RVOT regions had higher kinetic energy values and higher shear stresses levels compared to the global averaging over RV among all subjects. Endurance athletes had relatively lower kinetic energy and shear stresses in the RVOT regions compared to both healthy probands and ARVC patients. Capillary blood vessels, the smallest vessels in the body, form an intricate network with constantly bifurcating, merging and winding vessels. Red blood cells (RBCs) must navigate through such complex microvascular networks in order to maintain tissue perfusion and oxygenation. Normal, healthy RBCs are extremely deformable and able to easily flow through narrow vessels. However, RBC deformability is reduced in many pathological conditions and during blood storage. The influence of reduced cell deformability on microvascular hemodynamics is not well established. Here we use a high-fidelity, 3D computational model of blood flow that retains exact geometric details of physiologically realistic microvascular networks, and deformation of every one of nearly a thousand RBCs flowing through the networks. We predict that reduced RBC deformability alters RBC trafficking with significant and heterogeneous changes in hematocrit. We quantify such changes along with RBC partitioning and lingering at vascular bifurcations, perfusion and vascular resistance, and wall shear stress. We elucidate the cellular-scale mechanisms that cause such changes. We show that such changes arise primarily due to the altered RBC dynamics at vascular bifurcations, as well as cross-stream migration. Less deformable cells tend to linger less at majority of bifurcations increasing the fraction of RBCs entering the higher flow branches. Changes in vascular resistance also seen to be heterogeneous and correlate with hematocrit changes. Furthermore, alteration in RBC dynamics is shown to cause localized changes in wall shear stress within vessels and near vascular bifurcations. Such heterogeneous and focal changes in hemodynamics may be the cause of morphological abnormalities in capillary vessel networks as observed in several diseases. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The current work analyzes the effects of concentric ballooned catheterization and heat transfer on the hybrid nano blood flow through diseased arterial segment having both stenosis and aneurysm along its boundary. A fractional second-grade fluid model is considered which describes the non-Newtonian characteristics of the blood. Governing equations are linearized under mild stenosis and mild aneurysm assumptions. Precise articulations for various important flow characteristics such as heat transfer, hemodynamic velocity, wall shear stress, and resistance impedance are attained. Graphical portrayals for the impact of the significant parameters on the flow attributes have been devised. The streamlines of blood flow have been examined as well. Fluid flow shear stresses are strong regulators for directing the organization of vascular networks. Knowledge of structural and flow dynamics information within complex vasculature is essential for tuning the vascular organization within engineered tissues, by manipulating flows. However, reported investigations of vascular organization and their associated flow dynamics within complex vasculature over time are limited, due to limitations in the available physiological pre-clinical models, and the optical inaccessibility and aseptic nature of these models. Here, we developed laser speckle contrast imaging (LSCI) and side-stream dark field microscopy (SDF) systems to map the vascular organization, spatio-temporal blood flow fluctuations as well as erythrocytes movements within individual blood vessels of developing chick embryo, cultured within an artificial eggshell system. By combining imaging data and computational simulations, we estimated fluid flow shear stresses within multiscale vasculature of varying complexity. Furthermore, we demonstrated the LSCI compatibility with bioengineered perfusable muscle tissue constructs, fabricated via molding techniques. The presented application of LSCI and SDF on perfusable tissues enables us to study the flow perfusion effects in a non-invasive fashion.
