Crystal violet dye poses significant health risks to humans, including carcinogenic and mutagenic effects, as well as environmental hazards due to its persistence and toxicity in aquatic ecosystems. This study focuses on the efficient removal of crystal violet dye from aqueous media using novel Co3O4/Co3(BO3)2 nanostructures synthesized via the Pechini sol–gel approach. The nanostructures, which were abbreviated to EN600 and EN800, were fabricated at calcination temperatures of 600 and 800 °C, respectively. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis revealed that the synthesized samples have a cubic Co3O4 phase and an orthorhombic Co3(BO3)2 phase, with mean crystal sizes of 43.82 nm and 52.93 nm for EN600 and EN800 samples, respectively. The Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) surface areas of EN600 and EN800 samples were 65.80 and 43.76 m2/g, respectively, indicating a significant surface area available for adsorption. Optimal removal of crystal violet dye was achieved at a temperature of 298 K, a contact time of 70 min, and a pH of 10. The maximum adsorption capacities were found to be 284.09 mg/g for EN600 and 256.41 mg/g for EN800, which are notably higher compared to many conventional adsorbents. The adsorption process followed the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and fitted well with the Langmuir isotherm. The adsorption was exothermic, spontaneous, and physical in nature. Moreover, the adsorbents exhibited excellent reusability, retaining high efficiency after multiple regeneration cycles using 6 mol/L hydrochloric acid. Biofilm formation and toxin production are some of the virulence factors of Clostridioides difficile (C. difficile), which causes hospital-acquired C. difficile infection (HA-CDI). This work investigated the prevalence and distribution of different strains recovered from HA-CDI patients hospitalized in 4 medical centres across Israel, and characterized strains' virulence factors and antibiotic susceptibility. One-hundred and eighty-eight faecal samples were collected. C. difficile 's toxins were detected by the CerTest Clostridium difficile GDH + Toxin A + B combo card test kit. Toxin loci PaLoc and PaCdt were detected by whole-genome sequencing (WGS). Multi-locus sequence typing (MLST) was performed to classify strains. Biofilm production was assessed by crystal violet. Antibiotic susceptibility was determined using Etest. Fidaxomicin susceptibility was tested via agar dilution. Sequence type (ST) 42 was the most (13.8%) common strain. All strains harboured the 2 toxins genes; 6.9% had the binary toxin. Most isolates were susceptible to metronidazole (98.9%) and vancomycin (99.5%). Eleven (5.85%) isolates were fidaxomicin-resistant. Biofilm production capacity was associated with ST (p < 0.001). In conclusion, a broad variety of C. difficile strains circulate in Israel's medical centres. Further studies are needed to explore the differences and their contribution to HA-CDI epidemiology. Utilizing medicinal plants and other natural resources to prevent different types of human cancers is the prime focus of attention. Cervical cancer in women ranks as the fourth most common type of malignancy. The current study used gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC–MS) to identify the active phytochemical constituents from Caladium lindenii leaf extracts using ethanol (ECL) and n-hexane (HCL) solvents. Plant extracts were tested for potential cytotoxic effects on HeLa and HEK-293 T cells using the MTT (3-(4,5-Dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-Diphenyltetrazolium Bromide) and the crystal violet assays. SYBR Green-based real-time PCR was performed to assess the mRNA expression profile of the apoptosis biomarkers (BCL-2 and TP53). The molecular interaction of the compounds with the targeted proteins (TP53, BCL2, EGFR, and HER2) was determined using molecular docking. GC–MS analysis revealed a total of 93 compounds in both extracts. The ECL extract significantly reduced the proliferation of HeLa cervical cancer cells, with an IC50 value of 40 µg/mL, while HEK-293 T cells showed less effect (IC50 = 226 µg/mL). The quantitative RT-PCR gene expression analysis demonstrated the ethanol extract regulated TP53 and BCL2 mRNA expressions in treated cancer cell samples. Heptanediamide, N,Nʹ-di-benzoyloxy-(− 10.1) is the best-docked ligand with a TP53 target found in the molecular docking study, whereas EGFR/Clionasterol had the second highest binding affinity (− 9.7), followed by EGFR/Cycloeucalenol (− 9.6). It is concluded that ECL extract has promising anti-cervical cancer potential and might be valued for developing new plant-derived anticancer agents after further investigations. In this present work, the preparation of ternary MoS2–NiO–CuO nanohybrid by a facile hydrothermal process for photocatalytic and photovoltaic performance is presented. The prepared nanomaterials were confirmed by physio-chemical characterization. The nanosphere morphology was confirmed by electron microscopy techniques for the MoS2–NiO–CuO nanohybrid. The MoS2–NiO–CuO nanohybrid demonstrated enhanced crystal violet (CV) dye photodegradation which increased from 50 to 95% at 80 min; The degradation of methyl orange (MO) dye increased from 56 to 93% at 100 min under UV–visible light irradiation. The trapping experiment was carried out using different solvents for active species and the Z-Scheme photocatalytic mechanism was discussed in detail. Additionally, a batch series of stability experiments were carried out to determine the photostability of materials, and the results suggest that the MoS2–NiO–CuO nanohybrid is more stable even after four continuous cycles of photocatalytic activity. The MoS2–NiO–CuO nanohybrid delivers photoconversion efficiency (4.92%) explored efficacy is 3.8 times higher than the bare MoS2 (1.27%). The overall results indicated that the MoS2–NiO–CuO nanohybrid nanostructure could be a potential candidate to be used to improve photocatalytic performance and DSSC solar cell applications as well. Dye in industrial wastewater is one of the most serious environmental concerns due to its potentially harmful effects on human health. Many industrial dyes are carcinogenic, toxic and teratogenic. Removal and recovery of hazardous dyes from the effluents requires efficient adsorbents. In this study, magnetic adsorbent MnFe2O4-NH2-HKUST-1 was synthesized to remove methylene blue and crystal violet dyes from aqueous solutions. The synthesized adsorbent was characterized using FTIR, XRD, BET, VSM, SEM, TGA and Zeta potential techniques. The effect of different parameters such as pH, contact time, and adsorbent dosage on the removal of dyes was investigated. The dye adsorption process was investigated by UV–Vis spectrophotometry. The maximum adsorbent capacity was obtained as 149.25 mg/g for methylene blue and 135.13 mg/g for crystal violet. The adsorption equilibrium isotherm and kinetic models were plotted and results showed that the adsorption process for both dyes is a collection of physical and chemical adsorption based on langmuir and freundlich isotherm models, and follows the pseudo-second-order adsorption kinetics. This study shows that magnetic adsorbent MnFe2O4-NH2-HKUST-1 has a good potential for removal of methylene blue and crystal violet dyes from water in a short time (5 min) and it is easily separated from the solution by a magnetic field due to its magnetic property. In this study, a Sodium alginate-g-poly (acrylamide-clay)/TiO2 hydrogel nanocomposite [SA-g-p(AM-Bn)/TiO2] was synthesized using the biopolymer sodium alginate (SA), acrylamide (AM), and bentonite clay (Bn) as hybrid materials embedded with titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO2NPs) for the removal of toxic Congo Red (CR) dye from an aqueous solution. The [SA-g-p(AM-Bn)/TiO2] nanocomposite has been described on the basis of thermal stability, morphological analysis, estimation of functional group, and crystalline/amorphous character by TGA, EFSEM/EDX, TEM, FT-IR, and XRD analysis, respectively. The effects of operational parameters toward the CR dye adsorption on [SA-g-p(AM-Bn)/TiO2], including contact time, adsorbent dosage, initial concentration, initial pH, and temperature were investigated. The maximum adsorption efficiency was found to be 185.12 mg/g for [SA-g-p(AM-Bn)/TiO2] in 100 mg/L of solution CR at pH 6.0 within 1 h. The equilibrium isotherms, kinetics, and thermodynamics parameters of adsorption were examined, and results showed that the isotherm fitted the Freundlich model and the kinetics adsorption model of CR followed pseudo-first-order, thus indicating physisorption of anionic-CR onto the sorbent due to the development of an electrostatic attraction bond. Thermodynamic parameters for [SA-g-p(AM-Bn)/TiO2] have values (ΔG and ΔH) reflecting the spontaneous and endothermic nature of the adsorption processes. Moreover, [SA-g-p(AM-Bn)/TiO2] presented outstanding excellent reusability and recyclability with a relatively best removal percentage as compared to [SA-g-p(AM-Bn)] and suggested their applicability towards the textile industry and water purification purposes. In this study, zeolite Y was synthesised using a novel method. The heat generated from the reaction of H2SO4 with metakaolin was used as a heat source instead of applying external heat for the dealuminated process. The synthesised zeolite Y produced was analysed by scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET). Zeolite Y synthesis was mesoporous because of its pore diameter (30.53 nm), as shown in the BET results. Surface area and pore size decrease after adsorption due to dye deposition on the adsorbent's surface. FTIR has bonds like O–H, C–H, –CH3, and –COOH responsible for adsorption. The maximum adsorption capacity of eosin yellow (EY) and methyl orange (MO) on to zeolite Y by the Langmuir isotherm was 52.91 mg/g and 20.62 mg/g respectively, at pH 2.5 and 8 for EY and MO dye. The batch adsorption studies were conducted, and the influence of different parameters (i.e., adsorbent dose, adsorption time, initial dye concentration, pH and temperature) was investigated. Experimental data were analysed by two linear model equations (Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms), and it was found that the Langmuir isotherm model best describes the adsorption data for methyl orange and Freundlich isotherm for eosin yellow, respectively. Adsorption rate constants were determined using linear pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order. The results showed that MO and EY dye adsorption onto zeolite Y followed a pseudo-second-order kinetic model. Emerging pollutants and a large volume of unused dyes from the textile industry have been contaminating water bodies. This work introduces a scalable approach to purifying water by the adsorption of Acid green 25 (AG), Crystal Violet (CV), and Sulfamethoxazole (SMA) from an aqueous solution by graphene oxide (GO) doped modified silica aerogel (GO-SA) with supercritical fluid deposition (SFD) method. Characterization of GO-SA using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), high-resolution scanning electron microscopy (HR-SEM), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) adsorption isotherms revealed the improvement in the adsorbent surface area, and its textural properties. The high removal percentages observed in most of the experimental runs provide evidence of the excellent performance of the adsorbent towards the anionic and cationic dyes along with the antibiotic. The adsorption isotherm and kinetics showed that the Langmuir isotherm and pseudo-second-order kinetic models could explain adsorption. The adsorbent holds a higher adsorption capacity for SMA (67.07 mg g−1) than for CV (41.46 mg g−1) and AG (20.56 mg g−1) due to the higher hydrophobicity that interacts with the hydrophobic adsorbent. The GO-SA successfully removed AG, CV, and SMA with removal percentages of 98.23%, 98.71%, and 94.46%, respectively. The parameters were optimized using Central Composite Design (RSM-CCD). The prepared aerogel showed excellent reusability with a removal efficiency of > 85% even after 5 cycles. A novel, magnetic HKUST-1 MOF based on MgFe2O4-NH2 was designed and synthesized in two steps and applied effective removal of malachite green (MG), crystal violet (CV), and methylene blue (MB) from water samples. Characterization of the newly synthesized MgFe2O4-NH2-HKUST-1 was performed by various techniques such as Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, Field emission scanning electron microscopy, Brunauer–Emmett–Teller, Thermal gravimetric analysis, and Vibration sampling magnetometry. Malachite green, crystal violet and methylene blue are toxic and mutagenic dyes that can be released into the water in different ways and cause many problems for human health and the environment. The removal of malachite green, crystal violet, and methylene blue from aqueous solutions was investigated using the magnetic HKUST-1 in this research. The effect of various parameters such as pH, amount of sorbent, dye concentration, temperature, and contact time on dye removal has been studied. The results showed that more than 75% of dyes were removed within 5 min. Adsorption isotherms, Kinetic, and thermodynamic studies were investigated. The results of this study show that adsorption capacity of the magnetic adsorbent is equal to 108.69 mg g−1 for MG, 70.42 mg g−1 for CV, and 156.25 mg g−1 for MB. Ligands that recognise specific i-motif DNAs are helpful in cancer diagnostics and therapeutics, as i-motif formation can cause cancer. Although the loop regions of i-motifs are promising targets for ligands, the interaction between a ligand and the loop regions based on sequence information remains unexplored. Herein, we investigated the loop regions of various i-motif DNAs to determine whether these regions specifically interact with fluorescent ligands. Crystal violet (CV), a triphenylmethane dye, exhibited strong fluorescence with the i-motif derived from the promoter region of the human BCL2 gene in a sequence- and structure-specific manner. Our systematic sequence analysis indicated that CV was bound to the site formed by the first and third loops through inter-loop interactions between the guanine bases present in these loops. As the structural stability of the BCL2 i-motif was unaffected by CV, the local stabilisation of the loops by CV could inhibit the interaction of transcription factors with these loops, repressing the BCL2 expression of MCF-7 cells. Our finding suggests that the loops of the i-motif can act as a novel platform for the specific binding of small molecules; thus, they could be utilised for the theranostics of diseases associated with i-motif DNAs. Discharging untreated dye-containing wastewater gives rise to environmental pollution. The present study investigated the removal efficiency and adsorption mechanism of Acid Red 18 (AR18) utilizing hexadecyl-trimethyl ammonium chloride (HDTMA.Cl) modified Nano-pumice (HMNP), which is a novel adsorbent for AR18 removal. The HDTMA.Cl is characterized by XRD, XRF, FESEM, TEM, BET and FTIR analysis. pH, contact time, initial concentration of dye and adsorbent dose were the four different parameters for investigating their effects on the adsorption process. Response surface methodology-central composite design was used to model and improve the study to reduce expenses and the number of experiments. According to the findings, at the ideal conditions (pH = 4.5, sorbent dosage = 2.375 g/l, AR18 concentration = 25 mg/l, and contact time = 70 min), the maximum removal effectiveness was 99%. The Langmuir (R2 = 0.996) and pseudo-second-order (R2 = 0.999) models were obeyed by the adsorption isotherm and kinetic, respectively. The nature of HMNP was discovered to be spontaneous, and thermodynamic investigations revealed that the AR18 adsorption process is endothermic. By tracking the adsorption capacity of the adsorbent for five cycles under ideal conditions, the reusability of HMNP was examined, which showed a reduction in HMNP's adsorption effectiveness from 99 to 85% after five consecutive recycles. Solvent extraction on a micro-scale has received much attention due to its advantages in recent years. The purpose of this research is to compare the inlet geometry of T and Y-shaped microchannels. In this research, solvent extraction of Crystal Violet (CV) was investigated using Di-(2-ethylhexyl) phosphoric acid (D2EHPA) extractor and hexane solvent in Y and T-shaped microchannels with lengths of 4, 6, and 8 cm. The effect of parameters such as inlet geometry, length of microchannels (4–8 cm), dye solution pH (3–11), flow rate (1–1.5 mL/h) and the concentration of CV (25–75 ppm) was investigated. The Results showed that under the same conditions, Y-shaped microchannel performance is better than T-shaped microchannel. pH of dye solution phase, flow rate, inlet CV concentration, and microchannel length were obtained as optimal conditions for extraction, 10.9, 1.1 mL/h, 46.4 ppm, and 7.6 cm, respectively, and the amount of extraction, in this case, was % 97/96 was obtained. The photo-Fenton process is an appropriate method of the Advanced Oxidation Process that is used in the photocatalysis of organic dyes like crystal violet (CV). La3+ ion substituted gadolinium zirconium oxide Gd(2−x)La(x)Zr2O7 nanopowders (x = 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, and 0.5) have been successfully prepared by using sol–gel auto-combustion method to be used for the efficient photocatalysis of CV with photo-Fenton process. The well-crystallized defect-fluorite, structured with space group: Fm-3m, was detected using X-ray diffraction analysis. The lattice parameters were found to increase with the evaluated La3+ ion concentration. The grain size of the synthesized powders increased with the increase in La3+ ion content. The SAED patterns depicted fluorite structured fluorite. UV/Vis. spectrophotometer was used for the determination of band gap energy of Gd(2−x)La(x)Zr2O7 nanopowders which increased with increasing La3+ ion content. It was found to enhance from 4 to 3.6 eV. The visible spectrophotometer was used for determining unknown concentrations during the photocatalysis process to assure the effectiveness of the process. Overall, results illustrate that the photo-Fenton reaction on Gd(2−x)La(x)Zr2O7 performed excellently in removing crystal violet (CV). The photo-remediation ratio of CV reached 90% within 1 h. The preparation of adsorbents plays a vital role in the adsorption method. In particular, many adsorbents with high specific surface areas and unique shapes are essential for the adsorption strategy. A Zn–Mg–Al/layer double hydroxide (LDH) was designed in this study using a simple co-precipitation process. Adsorbent based on Zn–Mg–Al/LDH was used to remove crystal violet (CV) from the wastewater. The impacts of the initial dye concentration, pH, and temperature on CV adsorption performance were systematically examined. The adsorbents were analyzed both before and after adsorption using FTIR, XRD, and SEM. The roughness parameters and surface morphologies of the produced LDH were estimated using 3D SEM images. Under the best conditions (dose of adsorbent = 0.07 g and pH = 9), the maximum adsorption capacity has been achieved. Adsorption kinetics studies revealed that the reaction that led to the adsorption of CV dye onto Zn–Mg–Al/LDH was a pseudo-second-order model. Additionally, intraparticle diffusion suggests that Zn–Mg–Al/LDH has a fast diffusion constant for CV molecules (0.251 mg/(g min1/2)). Furthermore, as predicted by the Langmuir model, the maximal Zn–Mg–Al/LDH adsorption capacity of CV was 64.80 mg/g. The CV dimensionless separation factor (RL) onto Zn–Mg–Al/LDH was 0.769, indicating that adsorption was favorable. The effect of temperature was performed at 25, 35, and 45 °C in order to establish the thermodynamic parameters ∆Ho, ∆So, and ∆Go. The computed values indicated exothermic and spontaneous adsorption processes. Waste cooking oil (WCO) appears to be a potential carbonaceous source for synthesizing graphene sand composite (GSC) adsorbent in removing pollutants. This study presents a green synthesis method of GSC using WCO as a sustainable carbon source for the synthesis of GSC through the thermal graphitization method. Characterization analysis conducted on GSCWCO verified the successful coating of WCO onto the sand surface and conversion to graphene, which possessed distinct functional groups and features of graphene materials. GSCWCO adsorbent effectiveness in removing Congo Red dye through batch adsorption was studied under the influence of different initial concentrations (20 to 100 mg/L), and the optimum pH (pH 2 to 10), contact time (5 to 240 min), and temperature (25 to 45 °C) were investigated. The GSCWCO showed removal rates of 91.5% achieved at an initial dye concentration of 20 mg L−1, 1.0 g of adsorbent dosage, a temperature of 25 °C, and 150 min of contact time. The GSCWCO exhibited a maximum capacity of 5.52 mg g−1, was well-fitted to the Freundlich isotherm model with an R2 value of 0.989 and had an adsorption mechanism that followed the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. Negative values of enthalpy (ΔH) and Gibbs free energy (ΔG) revealed that CR adsorption onto GSCWCO was a spontaneous and exothermic process. The presence of functional groups on the surface of GSCWCO with such interactions (π–π attractive forces, hydrophobic forces, and hydrogen bonding) was responsible for the anionic dye removal. Regeneration of GSCWCO adsorbent declined after four cycles, possibly due to the chemisorption of dyes with GSC that resulted in inefficient adsorption. Being a waste-to-wealth product, GSCWCO possessed great potential to be used for water treatment and simultaneously benefited the environment through the effort to reduce the excessive discharge of WCO. The zizphus seeds are considered as a biomaterial residues that has been used for removing of organic industrial waste such as 2-((10-octyl-9,10-dihydroanthracene-2-yl) methylene) malononitrile (PTZS-CN) dye from aqueous solutions utilizing graphene oxide-Ziziphus (GO-Ziziphus). A batch study explored the impacts of various experimental circumstances, including solution pH, initial dye concentration, temperature, and contact time. General order, nonlinear pseudo-first order and pseudo-second order, elvoich model and intraparticiple diffusion were utilized to analyze the kinetic data. The adsorption kinetics of dye onto GO-ziziphus adsorption was best mentioned by nonlinear pseudo-first order. Similarly, the intra-particle diffusion plots revealed one exponential line throughout the adsorption process. The Freundlich, Dubinin-Radushkevich, and Langmuir models were employed to examine isothermal data. It provided the best fit of the dye adsorption isothermal data onto GO-ziziphus Freundlich models. Besides, the calculated free energies showed that the adsorption progression was physical adsorption. Thermodynamic calculations revealed that dye adsorption onto GO-ziziphus was exothermic and spontaneous. Current work focuses on fabricating a new bio-nano adsorbent of Fe3O4@inulin nanocomposite via an in-situ co-precipitation procedure to adsorb methyl orange (MO) and crystal violet (CV) dyes from aqueous solutions. Different physical characterization analyses verified the successful fabrication of the magnetic nanocomposite. The adsorbent performance in dye removal was evaluated by varying initial dye concentration, adsorbent dosage, pH and temperature in 5110 mg/L, 0.10.8 g/L, 111 and 283–338 K, respectively. Due to the pH of zero point of charge and intrinsic properties of dyes, the optimum pHs were 5 and 7 for MO and CV adsorption, respectively. The correlation of coefficient (R2) and reduced chi-squared value were the criteria in order to select the best isotherm and kinetics models. The Langmuir model illustrated a better fit for the adsorption data for both dyes, demonstrating the maximum adsorption capacity of 276.26 and 223.57 mg/g at 338 K for MO and CV, respectively. As well, the pseudo-second-order model showed a better fitness for kinetics data compared to the pseudo-first-order and Elovich models. The thermodynamic parameters exhibited that the dye adsorption process is endothermic and spontaneous, which supported the enhanced adsorption rate by increasing temperature. Moreover, the nanocomposite presented outstanding capacity and stability after 6 successive cycles by retaining more than 87% of its initial dye removal efficiency. New multi-featured adsorbent beads were fabricated through impregnation of sulfonated graphene (SGO) oxide into cellulose acetate (CA) beads for fast adsorption of cationic methylene blue (MB) dye. The formulated SGO@CA composite beads were thoroughly characterized by several tools including FTIR, TGA, SEM, XRD, XPS and zeta potential. The optimal levels of the most significant identified variables affecting the adsorption process were sequential determined by the response surface methodology (RSM) using Plackett–Burman and Box–Behnken designs. The gained results denoted that the surface of SGO@CA beads displayed the higher negative charges (− 42.2 mV) compared to − 35.7 and − 38.7 mV for pristine CA and SGO, respectively. In addition, the floated SGO@CA beads demonstrated excellent floating property, fast adsorption and easy separation. The adsorption performance was accomplished rapidly, since the adsorption equilibrium was closely gotten within 30 min. Furthermore, the adsorption capacity was greatly improved with increasing SGO content from 10 to 30%. Thereby, our investigation aimed to fabricate montmorillonite/magnetic NiFe2O4@amine-functionalized chitosan (MMT-mAmCs) composite as a promising green adsorbent to remove the cationic methylene blue (MB) and crystal violet (CV) dyes from the wastewater in neutral conditions. Interestingly, MMT-mAmCs composite carries high negative charges at a wide pH range from 4 to 11 as clarified from zeta potential measurements, asserting its suitability to adsorb the cationic contaminants. In addition, the experimental study confirmed that the optimum pH to adsorb both MB and CV was pH 7, inferring the ability of MMT-mAmCs to adsorb both cationic dyes in simple process conditions. Furthermore, the ferromagnetic behavior of the MMT-mAmCs composite is additional merit to our adsorbent that provides facile, fast, and flawless separation. Notably, the as-fabricated composite revealed an auspicious adsorbability towards the adsorptive removal of MB and CV, since the maximum adsorption capacity of MB and CV were 137 and 118 mg/g, respectively. Moreover, the isotherm and kinetic investigatins depicted that the adsorption of both cationic dyes fitted Langmuir and Pseudo 2nd order models, respectively. Besides, the advanced adsorbent preserved satisfactory adsorption characteristics with maximal removal efficacy exceeding 87% after reuse for ten consecutive cycles. Proteus mirabilis (P. mirabilis) is a frequent cause of catheter-associated urinary tract infections. This study aims to investigate the anti-infective effect of Alhagi maurorum extract (AME), the traditional medicinal plant in the middle east, on the biofilm-forming P. mirabilis isolates. Hydroalcoholic extract and oil of A. maurorum were characterized by HPLC and GC–MS. The antiproliferative, anti-biofilm, and bactericidal activity of AME at various concentrations were assessed by turbidity, crystal violet binding, and agar well diffusion assays, respectively. The AME's effect on adhesion and quorum sensing (QS) were investigated by in vitro adhesion assay on cell culture and agar overlay assay using Janthinobacterium lividum (ATCC 12472) as a biosensor strain. In addition, the expression level of selected genes involved in QS and biofilm regulation were determined by quantitative Real-Time PCR. Furthermore, the bladder phantom model was created to evaluate the assays and investigate the catheter's calcium deposition. The most effective chemical compounds found in AME were tamarixetin, quercetin, and trans-anethole. Although AME did not inhibit swarming motility, it reduced biofilm production and exerted a concentration-dependent anti-adhesive and anti-QS activity against P. mirabilis. AME also downregulated the expression level of selected genes involved in biofilm formation and QS. This study showed that AME as a natural compound reduced biofilm formation of P. mirabilis by targeting virulence factor genes, quorum sensing, and other strategies that include preventing the adhesion of P. mirabilis to the cells. In this investigation, Kaolin (K) impregnated aminated chitosan (AM-CTS) composite beads were fabricated with multi-features including low-cost, high performance, renewable and ease of separation for adsorption of anionic Congo red (CR) dye. Characterization tools such as FTIR, XRD, SEM, TGA, BET, XPS and Zeta potential were thoroughly employed to confirm the successful formulation process. The results revealed that K@ AM-CTS composite beads displayed higher specific surface area (128.52 m2/g), while the thermal stability was prominently improved compared to pure AM-CTS. In addition, the adsorption equilibrium of CR dye was accomplished rapidly and closely gotten within 45 min. The removal efficiency was significantly enriched and reached 90.7% with increasing kaolin content up to 0.75%, compared to 20.3 and 58% for pristine kaolin and AM-CTS, respectively. Moreover, the adsorption process obeyed the pseudo-first order kinetic model, while data were agreed with the Freundlich isotherm model with a maximum adsorption capacity reached 104 mg/g at pH 6. Furthermore, D–R isotherm model demonstrated the physical adsorption process of CR dye, which includes the electrostatic interactions, ion exchange and H-bonding. Thermodynamics evidenced the spontaneous and endothermic nature of the adsorption process. Interestingly, the developed K@AM-CTS composites beads showed better reusability for eight consecutive cycles, suggesting their feasible applicability for adsorptive removal anionic dyes from polluted aquatic bodies. Ti and its alloys are the most used metallic biomaterials devices due to their excellent combination of chemical and mechanical properties, biocompatibility, and non-toxicity to the human body. However, the current alloys available still have several issues, such as cytotoxicity of Al and V and high elastic modulus values, compared to human bone. β-type alloys, compared to α-type and (α + β)-type Ti alloys, have lower elastic modulus and higher mechanical strength. Then, new biomedical β-type alloys are being developed with non-cytotoxic alloying elements, such as Mo and Nb. Therefore, Ti-5Mo-xNb system alloys were prepared by argon arc melting. Chemical composition was evaluated by EDS analysis, and the density measurements were performed by Archimedes' method. The structure and microstructure of the alloys were obtained by X-ray diffraction and optical and scanning electron microscopy. Microhardness values were analyzed, and MTT and crystal violet tests were performed to assess their cytotoxicity. As the Nb concentration increases, the presence of the β-Ti phase also grows, with the Ti-5Mo-30Nb alloy presenting a single β-Ti phase. In contrast, the microhardness of the alloys decreases with the addition of Nb, except the Ti-5Mo-10Nb alloy, which has its microhardness increased probably due to the ω phase precipitation. In this research, the piperazine-modified magnetic graphene oxide (Pip@MGO) nanocomposite was synthesized and utilized as a nano-adsorbent for the removal of Pb(II) ions from environmental water and wastewater samples. The physicochemical properties of Pip@MGO nanocomposite was characterized by X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDAX), Thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA), Vibrating Sample Magnetometery (VSM) and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) analysis. In this method, the batch removal process were designed by response surface methodology (RSM) based on a central composite design (CCD) model. The results indicated that the highest efficiency of Pb(II) removal was obtained from the quadratic model under optimum conditions of prominent parameters (initial pH 6.0, adsorbent dosage 7 mg, initial concentration of lead 15 mg L−1 and contact time 27.5 min). Adsorption data showed that lead ions uptake on Pip@MGO nanocomposite followed the Langmuir isotherm model equation and pseudo-second order kinetic model. High adsorption capacity (558.2 mg g−1) and easy magnetic separation capability showed that the synthesized Pip@MGO nanocomposite has great potential for the removal of Pb(II) ions from contaminated wastewaters. Herein, a biosorbent was prepared from cucumber peels modified with ZnO nanoparticles (CPZiONp-composite) for the biosorption of metribuzin. Characterization of the composite was accomplished using FTIR, SEM, EDX, surface area pore size analyzer and pH of point of zero charge (pHpzc). Biosorption study was executed in batch concerning the impact of pH, composite dose, contact time, initial metribuzin concentration and temperature. The biosorption depends on pH and maximum biosorption was acquired at pH 3.0. Surface chemistry of the composite was studied by determining the pHpzc and was found to be 6.1. The biosorption nature was investigated using isotherms and was assessed that Freundlich isotherm is well suited for the fitting of the biosorption data owing to the highest R2. The maximum biosorption capacity of CPZiONp-composite was found to be 200 mg g-1. The biosorption data were fitted in to different kinetic models and the outcomes suggesting that pseudo second order is a satisfactory model to interpret the biosorption data owing to the highest R2. Thermodynamic parameters for instance entropy, enthalpy and Gibbs free energy were computed and revealed that biosorption of metribuzin onto CPZiONp-composite is spontaneous and exothermic process. The precious platinum group metals distributed in urban industrial products should be recycled because of their rapid decline in the contents through excessive mining. In this work, thiourea modified magnetic biocarbons are prepared via an energy-efficient microwave-assisted activation and assessed as potential adsorbents to recover platinum ions (i.e., Pt(IV)) from dilute waste solution. The physicochemical properties of prepared biocarbons are characterized by a series of spectroscopic and analytic instruments. The adsorption performance of biocarbons is carried out by using batch tests. Consequently, the maximum adsorption capacity of Pt(IV) observed for adsorbents is ca. 42.8 mg g−1 at pH = 2 and 328 K. Both adsorption kinetics and isotherm data of Pt(IV) on the adsorbents are fitted better with non-linear pseudo second-order model and Freundlich isotherm, respectively. Moreover, the thermodynamic parameters suggest that the Pt(IV) adsorption is endothermic and spontaneous. Most importantly, the adsorbents exhibit high selectivity toward Pt(IV) adsorption and preserve ca. 96.9% of adsorption capacity after six cyclic runs. After adsorption, the regeneration of the prepared adsorbents can be effectively attained by using 1 M thiourea/2% HCl mixed solution as an eluent. Combined the data from Fourier transform infrared and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopies, the mechanisms for Pt(IV) adsorption are governed by Pt–S bond between Pt(IV) and thiourea as well as the electrostatic attraction between anionic PtCl62− and cationic functional groups of adsorbents. The superior Pt(IV) recovery and sustainable features allow the thiourea modified magnetic biocarbon as a potential adsorbent to recycle noble metals from spent autocatalyst solution. In this study, the new material Fe3O4@BTCA has been synthesized by immobilization of 1,2,4,5-Benzenetetracarboxylic acid (BTCA) on the surface of Fe3O4 NPs, obtained by co-precipitation of FeCl3.6H2O and FeCl2.4H2O in the basic conditions. Characterization by P-XRD, FE-SEM, and TEM confirm Fe3O4 has a spherical crystalline structure with an average diameter of 15 nm, which after functionalization with BTCA, increases to 20 nm. Functionalization also enhances the surface area and surface charge of the material, confirmed by BET and zeta potential analyses, respectively. The dye adsorption capacity of Fe3O4@BTCA has been investigated for three common dyes; Congo red (C.R), Methylene blue (M.B), and Crystal violet (C.V). The adsorption studies show that the material rapidly and selectively adsorbs C.R dye with very high adsorption capacity (630 mg/g), which is attributed to strong H-bonding ability of BTCA with C.R dye as indicated by adsorption mechanism study. The material also shows excellent recyclability without any considerable loss of adsorption capacity. We demonstrate observation of Raman signals of different analytes adsorbed on carbonaceous materials, such as, chemically reduced graphene, graphene oxide (GO), multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT), graphite and activated carbon. The analytes selected for the study were Rhodamine 6G (R6G) (in resonant conditions), Rhodamine B (RB), Nile blue (NBA), Crystal Violet (CV) and acetaminophen (paracetamol). All the analytes except paracetamol absorb and fluoresce in the visible region. In this article we provide experimental evidence of the fact that observation of Raman signals of analytes on such carbonaceous materials are more due to resonance effect, suppression of fluorescence and efficient adsorption and that this property in not unique to graphene or nanotubes but prevalent for various type of carbon materials. Biochar shows great promise for use in adsorbing pollutants. However, a process for enhancing its adsorption capacity and re-collection efficiency is yet to be further developed. Hence, in this study, we developed a type of biochar coated with magnetic Fe3O4 nanoparticles (i.e., magnetic biochar (MBC)) and assessed its use for crystal violet (CV) adsorption as well as its recycling potential. The coating of Fe3O4 nanoparticles, which was not only on the surface, but also in the interior of biochar, performed two functions. Firstly, it produced a saturation magnetization of 61.48 emu/g, which enabled the biochar being efficiently re-collected using a magnet. Secondly, it significantly enhanced the adsorption capacity of the biochar (from 80.36 to 99.19 mg/g). The adsorption capacity of the MBC was determined to be the largest by so far (349.40 mg/g) for an initial CV concentration of 400 mg/L, pH of 6.0, and temperature of 40 °C, and the adsorption capacity of re-collected MBC was 73.31 mg/g. The adsorption of CV by the MBC was found to be a spontaneous and endothermic physical process in which the intraparticle diffusion was the limiting step.
