The low liquid limit silty soil in the North China plain area is generally unsuitable for direct use as roadbed and slope soil. In order to improve the performance of low liquid limit silty soil, xanthan gum was used as an improver. Through a series of tests, the improvement effect of xanthan gum on low liquid limit silty soil was studied. The test results showed that Xanthan gum as an improver could significantly improve the unconfined compressive strength of silty soil. With the increase in dosage and curing age, the unconfined compressive strength of improved silty soil continued to improve and eventually tended to stabilize. The optimal dosage and curing period were 2% and 7 days, respectively. In addition, Xanthan gum could greatly improve the permeability and disintegration of low liquid limit silty soil. The permeability coefficient of improved silty soil with a content of 0.75% Xanthan gum and a 7-day curing period was 4.73 × 10−4 m·s−1, which was only 1.10% of that of plain silty soil at the same curing period. After immersion in water for 12 h, the soil only experienced slight disintegration. The scanning electron microscope image showed that the gel generated by the hydration reaction of Xanthan gum could improve the compactness and integrity of the soil by filling the voids, thus significantly improving the mechanical and hydraulic properties of the low liquid limit silty soil. The American cockroach, Periplaneta americana (Linnaeus, 1758) (Blattodea: Blattidae), is one of the most common pests that thrive in diverse environments and carries various pathogens, causing critical threats to public health and the ecosystem. We thus report in this study the first observation of decapitated American cockroaches as a result of infestation with scuttle fly parasitoids. Interestingly, behavioral alterations in the form of zombification-like behavior could be observed in cockroaches reared in the laboratory before being decapitated, implying that the insect targets cockroach heads. To identify this parasitoid, cockroaches' corpora were isolated in jars, and apodous larvae were observed. Larvae developed into small coarctate pupae, and adults emerged. The scuttle flies were collected and exhibited tiny black, brown, to yellowish bodies. The fly was initially identified based on its morphological properties as a member of the order Diptera, family Phoridae. To provide further insights into the morphological attributes of the phorid species, the fly was examined using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and then identified as Megaselia scalaris accordingly. SEM analysis revealed the distinctive structure of M. scalaris concerning the head, mouth parts, and legs. Specifically, the mouth parts include the labrum, labellum, rostrum, and maxillary palps. Although further investigations are still required to understand the complicated relationships between M. scalaris and American cockroaches, our findings provide a prominent step in the control of American cockroaches using M. scalaris as an efficient biological control agent. To reveal the mechanism of the influence of the curing temperature on the strength of lime activated fly ash-GGBS cured silt soil, the curing of dredged silt was carried out by using fly ash and GGBS as the curing agent and lime as the activator. Unconfined compressive strength (UCS) experiments were carried out, and the micro-analysis of the cured silt was carried out by experimental methods including scanning electron microscope (SEM) tests, X-ray diffraction (XRD), etc. to reveal the mechanism of the curing temperature on the dredged silt. According to the test results, the hydration reaction and pozzolanic reaction between lime-fly ash-GGBS and silt soil were promoted with the increase of the curing temperature. when the curing temperature of the sample reached 40 ℃, a large amount of gel products such as hydrated calcium aluminate (C–A–H) and hydrated calcium silicate (C–S–H) were generated, which enhanced the bonding force between soil particles and filled up the inter-particle pore space, thereby improving the UCS of the sample. The results of SEM confirmed that C–A–H and C–S–H were the main substances for the construction of cured silt skeleton. C–S–H and C–A–H were detected by XRD. Phosphorus (P) removal is a significant issue in wastewater treatment. This study applies Fe-Al composite coagulant to the advanced treatment of different P forms in biological effluent. For 90% total P removal, the dosage of FeCl3-AlCl3 composite coagulant reduces by 27.19% and 43.28% than FeCl3 and AlCl3 only, respectively. Changes in effluent P forms could explain the phenomenon of composite coagulant dosage reduction. The suspended P in the effluent of composite coagulant is easier removed by precipitation than single coagulant. In this study, the hydrolysis speciations of Fe3+, Fe2+, and Al3+ at a pH range are calculated by Visual MINTEQ. Changes in the morphology of metal hydroxides correlate with P removal at pH 4–9. Besides, analyses of scanning electron microscope (SEM), Fourier transformed infrared (FTIR), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) are performed on the coagulation precipitations. Fe2+ reacts directly with P to form flocs of Fe3(PO4)2, and Al2(SO4)3 assists in the sedimentation of the small-volume flocs. Deposition of high entropy alloy FeCoNiMnCu on SS-304 was carried out by microwave energy for application in "solid oxide fuel-cell (SOFC) interconnects". The ball-milling has been performed by taking "Fe, Co, Ni, Mn, and Cu" in equal 20 wt. % of before deposited on SS-304 substrate. The deposited steel with 20% Fe 20% Co 20% Ni 20% Mn 20% Cu high entropy alloy (HEA) was exposed to thermal-exposure in the air for up to 10 weeks at 800 °C. The uniform cladding distribution of 20% Fe 20% Co 20% Ni 20% Mn 20% Cu HEA particles can be apparently observed on SS-304 substrate by utilizing Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), and Optical microscopy analysis. Homogeneity in the interfacial layer was evident by employing Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) characterization. Results have indicated that after the thermal exposure of deposited steel with 20% Fe 20% Co 20% Ni 20% Mn 20% Cu in the air for up to ten weeks at 800 °C, a "protective Cr2O3 layer", and "high-entropy spinel coating" of (Fe, Co, Ni, Mn, Cu)3O4 have been formed. During microwave cladding, the emergence of harder-phases has contributed to the raised hardness. The wear behavior after coating of 20% Fe 20% Co 20% Ni 20% Mn 20% Cu HEA on SS-304 substrate has significantly enhanced due to the strengthened wear resistance and hardness of the coatings. Findings have exhibited that the formation of (Fe, Co, Ni, Mn, Cu)3O4 phase is a potential coating material for "SOFC interconnects" applications. Moreover, the cladding of SS304 with a composition of 20% Fe, 20% Co, 20% Ni, 20% Mn, and 20% Cu has demonstrated remarkable stability under thermal expansion studies. As the findings have revealed that the composite cladding has efficiently withstand significant variations in volume when subjected to elevated temperatures for a prolonged period of time, thus, exhibiting its superior thermal stability for SOFC-interconnect applications. Furthermore, the SEM images of the cladding surface, surface hardness, and tribocorrosion behavior of the coated material have been observed to identify the 20% Fe 20% Co 20% Ni 20% Mn 20% Cu HEA coating effect on SS-304 steel-substrate. Ultra-high-rise buildings require high concrete bearing capacity. Ordinary concrete often fails to meet the project requirements. Admixture of admixtures in concrete is a means of solution. Currently, studies on the incorporation of basalt fiber (BF) and fly ash (FA) in concrete are relatively mature. However, research on incorporating nano-Titanium Carbide (nano-TiC) in concrete is still relatively scarce, which has a lot of room for development. To further improve the mechanical properties of concrete, BF, and FA synergized with nano-TiC were incorporated into concrete to produce TBF concrete in this study. And Response Surface Methodology (RSM) was used to optimize the mechanical properties of concrete. The collapse and compressive deformation damage characteristics of concrete were analyzed. The microstructure of the cement matrix was analyzed by the SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope). An optimization model of the TBF concrete craving function was developed. Optimized ratios with compressive, split tensile, and flexural strengths as response objectives were obtained, and the accuracy of the optimized ratios was investigated using the same experimental conditions. The results of the study showed that FA increased the collapse of concrete, while nano-TiC and BF decreased the collapse of concrete. Under uniaxial compression, nano-TiC, FA, and BF together incorporated into concrete can improve its compressive damage state. Moderate amounts of nano-TiC, BF, and FA could improve the mechanical properties of concrete. Their optimal mixing ratio admixtures were 0.88%, 0.24%, and 5.49%, respectively. And the measured values under the same conditions were compared with the predicted values. The maximum difference in compressive strength was 6.09%. The maximum difference in split tensile strength was 7.14%. The maximum difference in flexural strength was 8.45%. This indicated that the accuracy of the RSM optimization model was good. In the present work, the Nickel oxide (rGO–NiO), Silver (rGO–Ag), Copper oxide (rGO–CuO) doped Graphene Oxide are reported for catalytic reactions. A comparative study for catalytic activities of these materials are performed with nitroaromatic compound 4-nitroaniline and the results are statistically studied by using univariate analysis of variance and Post Hoc Test through Statistical Package for Social Sciences and it is observed that CuO doped Graphene material is showing better catalytic activity in minimum time. So, further research has been focused on the catalytic acitivity of rGO–CuO only and it is found that it is efficient in reducing other nitro compounds also such as Picric acid and Nitrobenzene. Dye degradation of Methylene blue is also performed using CuO decorated Graphene material and significant changes were observed using UV spectroscopy. Calcium phosphate (CaPO4) coating is one of various methods that is used to modify the topography and the chemistry of Ti dental implant surface to solve sever oral problems that result from diseases, accidents, or even caries due to its biocompatibility. In this work, anodized (Ti-bare) was coated by CaPO4 prepared from amorphous calcium phosphate nanoparticles (ACP-NPs) and confirmed the structure by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) techniques. Ti-bare was coated by prepared CaPO4 through the casting process, and the morphology of Ti/CaPO4 was characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM) where the nano-flakes shape of CaPO4 and measured to be 60 ~ 80 nm was confirmed. The stability of Ti-bare and coated Ti/CaPO4 was studied in a simulated saliva solution using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and linear polarization techniques to deduce their corrosion resistance. Furthermore, three essential oils (EO), Cumin, Thyme, and Coriander, were used to stimulate their synergistic effect with the CaPO4 coat to enhance the corrosion resistance of Ti implant in an oral environment. The fitting EIS parameters based on Rs [RctC]W circuit proved that the charge transfer resistance (Rct) of Ti/CaPO4 increased by 264.4, 88.2, and 437.5% for Cumin, Thyme, and Coriander, respectively, at 2% concentration. The mechanical resistance of AS10/xNi hypoeutectic alloy with (x = 0.05% and 0.1%) has been investigated. Vickers hardness (HV) was determined for the samples before and after sintering. All samples were subjected to a compressive creep test at a constant temperature of 298 K and a constant load of 45 MPa. Creep parameters, such as creep rate, sensitivity (m), time exponent (n), β, and ɣ have been calculated and related to the Ni content. Microstructure investigation was conducted using the scanning electron microscope technique (SEMT). After sintering, the results showed that there was a significant improvement in the hardness with the addition of nickel. There is an increase in creep resistance as a result of the distribution of Al3Ni chemical compound across grain boundaries, which stops additional dislocation movement and hence reduces the creep rate. Chia gum's molecular structure with distinctive properties as well as the alginate-based hydrogel's three-dimensionally cross-linked structure can provide a potent matrix for immobilization of enzyme. Herein, chia gum (CG)/alginate (A)-polymeric complex was synthesized and employed as a support material for the immobilization of horseradish peroxidase (HRP). HRP was successfully immobilized on the developed ACG-polymeric support, and the highest immobilization recovery (75%) was observed at 1.0% CG and 2% A, pH 7.0, and 50 units of the enzyme. The structure, morphology, and thermal properties of the prepared ACG-HRP were demonstrated using Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR), Scanning Electron Microscope, and Thermogravimetric (TGA) analyses. ACG-HRP showed a good reusability (60%) over ten reuses. The immobilized ACG-HRP displayed an acidic pH optimum (6.0), a higher temperature optimum (50 °C), and improved thermal stability (30–50 °C) compared to the soluble HRP at pH 7.0, 40 °C and (30–40 °C), respectively. ACG-HRP has a lower affinity for hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and guaiacol and a higher oxidizing affinity for a number of phenolic substrates. The ACG-HRP demonstrated greater resistance to heavy metals, isopropanol, urea, Triton X-100, and urea, as well as improved efficiency for eliminating phenol and p-chlorophenol. The developed ACG-polymeric support provided improved enzyme properties, allowed the reuse of the immobilized HRP in 10 cycles, and made it promising for several biotechnological applications. In this study, biochar (BC) and hydrochar (HC) composites were synthesized with natural kaolinite clay and their properties, stability, carbon (C) sequestration potential, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) toxicity, and impacts on maize germination and growth were explored. Conocarpus waste was pretreated with 0%, 10%, and 20% kaolinite and pyrolyzed to produce BCs (BC, BCK10, and BCK20, respectively), while hydrothermalized to produce HCs (HC, HCK10, and HCK20, respectively). The synthesized materials were characterized using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope analyses, Fourier transform infrared, thermogravimetric analysis, surface area, proximate analyses, and chemical analysis to investigate the distinction in physiochemical and structural characteristics. The BCs showed higher C contents (85.73–92.50%) as compared to HCs (58.81–61.11%). The BCs demonstrated a higher thermal stability, aromaticity, and C sequestration potential than HCs. Kaolinite enriched-BCs showed the highest cation exchange capacity than pristine BC (34.97% higher in BCK10 and 38.04% higher in BCK20 than pristine BC), while surface area was the highest in kaolinite composited HCs (202.8% higher in HCK10 and 190.2% higher in HCK20 than pristine HC). The recalcitrance index (R50) speculated a higher recalcitrance for BC, BCK10, and BCK20 (R50 > 0.7), minimal degradability for HCK10 and HCK20 (0.5 < R50 < 0.7), and higher degradability for biomass and HC (R50 < 0.5). Overall, increasing the kaolinite enrichment percentage significantly enhanced the thermal stability and C sequestration potential of charred materials, which may be attributed to changes in the structural arrangements. The ∑ total PAHs concentration in the synthesized materials were below the USEPA's suggested limits, indicating their safe use as soil amendments. Germination indices reflected positive impacts of synthesized charred materials on maize germination and growth. In order to promote the sustainable use of resources and reduce the waste of waste glass and tailings resources. The present study focuses on a fluorite mine as the research subject, utilizing coarse tailings, fine tailings, cement substitute-curing agent, and recycled waste glass as the primary raw materials. It investigates the changes in compressive strength of coarse tailing with varying sand- binder ratios and glass content at 3-day, 7-day, and 28-day intervals when the filling slurry concentration is set at 77% and the ratio of coarse tailings to fine tailings is maintained at 2:1. The findings indicate that there is minimal impact on the compressive strength of test blocks when using a sand binder ratio of 4:1 and a glass sand content below 10%. However, once the glass sand content exceeds 10%, a significant decline in compressive strength occurs. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) images reveal ettringite crystal formation in test blocks with both 0% and 25% glass sand content due to high levels of Na2O in the glass sand. This leads to internal expansion within test blocks resulting in reduced strength. Notably, when using a sand-binder ratio of 8:1 along with a glass sand content of 25%, early strength characteristics are observed for test blocks. Furthermore, incorporating glass sand has little influence on late-stage strength for backfill when employing either an 8:1 or 12:1 sand-binder ratio. Based on this experiment conducted under conditions including mass concentration of 77%, the optimal waste-glass-to-mine-tailings-filling-sand-binder-ratio is determined as 8:1with a corresponding glass content of 25%.
