To address the problems of low accuracy in fault diagnosis of oil-immersed transformers, poor state perception ability and real-time collaboration during diagnosis feedback, a fault diagnosis method for transformers based on the integration of digital twins is proposed. Firstly, fault sample balance is achieved through Iterative Nearest Neighbor Oversampling (INNOS), Secondly, nine-dimensional ratio features are extracted, and the correlation between dissolved gases in oil and fault types is established. Then, sparse principal component analysis (SPCA) is used for feature fusion and dimensionality reduction. Finally, the Aquila Optimizer (AO) is introduced to optimize the parameters of the Kernel Extreme Learning Machine (KELM), establishing the optimal AO-KELM diagnosis model. The final fault diagnosis accuracy reaches 98.1013%. Combining transformer digital twin models, real-time interaction mapping between physical entities and virtual space is achieved, enabling online diagnosis of transformer faults. Pulse-coupled neural networks perform well in many fields such as information retrieval, depth estimation and object detection. Based on pulse coupled neural network (PCNN) theory, this paper constructs a visual perception model framework and builds a real image reproduction platform. The model firstly analyzes the structure and generalization ability of neural network multi-class classifier, uses the minimax criterion of feature space as the splitting criterion of visual perception decision node, which solves the generalization problem of neural network learning algorithm. In the simulation process, the initial threshold is optimized by the two-dimensional maximum inter-class variance method, and in order to improve the real-time performance of the algorithm, the fast recurrence formula of neural network is derived and given. The PCNN image segmentation method based on genetic algorithm is analyzed. The genetic algorithm improves the loop termination condition and the adaptive setting of model parameters of PCNN image segmentation algorithm, but the PCNN image segmentation algorithm still has the problem of complexity. In order to solve this problem, this paper proposed an IGA-PCNN image segmentation method combining the improved algorithm and PCNN model. Firstly, it used the improved immune genetic algorithm to adaptively obtain the optimal threshold, and then replaced the dynamic threshold in PCNN model with the optimal threshold, and finally used the pulse coupling characteristics of PCNN model to complete the image segmentation. From the coupling characteristics of PCNN, junction close space of image and gray level characteristics, it determined the local gray mean square error of image connection strength coefficient. The feature extraction and object segmentation properties of PCNN come from the spike frequency of neurons, and the number of neurons in PCNN is equal to the number of pixels in the input image. In addition, the spatial and gray value differences of pixels should be considered comprehensively to determine their connection matrix. Digital experiments show that the multi-scale multi-task pulse coupled neural network model can shorten the total training time by 17 h, improve the comprehensive accuracy of the task test data set by 1.04%, and shorten the detection time of each image by 4.8 s compared with the series network model of multiple single tasks. Compared with the traditional PCNN algorithm, it has the advantages of fast visual perception and clear target contour segmentation, and effectively improves the anti-interference performance of the model. Liver ultrasound is widely used in clinical practice due to its advantages of non-invasiveness, non-radiation, and real-time imaging. Accurate segmentation of the liver region in ultrasound images is essential for accelerating the auxiliary diagnosis of liver-related diseases. This paper proposes BACANet, a deep learning algorithm designed for real-time liver ultrasound segmentation. Our approach utilizes a lightweight network backbone for liver feature extraction and incorporates a convolutional attention mechanism to enhance the network's ability to capture global contextual information. To improve early localization of liver boundaries, we developed a selective large kernel convolution module for boundary feature extraction and introduced explicit liver boundary supervision. Additionally, we designed an enhanced attention gate to efficiently convey liver body and boundary features to the decoder to enhance the feature representation capability. Experimental results across multiple datasets demonstrate that BACANet effectively completes the task of liver ultrasound segmentation, achieving a balance between inference speed and segmentation accuracy. On a public dataset, BACANet achieved a DSC of 0.921 and an IOU of 0.854. There is a complex high-dimensional nonlinear mapping relationship between the compressive strength of High-Performance Concrete (HPC) and its components, which has great influence on the accurate prediction of compressive strength. In this paper, an efficient robust software calculation strategy combining BP Neural Network (BPNN), Support Vector Machine (SVM) and Genetic Algorithm (GA) is proposed for the prediction of compressive strength of HPC. 8 features were extracted from the previous literature, and a compressive strength database containing 454 sets of data was constructed. The model was trained and tested, and the performance of 4 Machine Learning (ML) models, namely BPNN, SVM, GA-BPNN and GA-SVM, was compared. The results show that the coupled model is superior to the single model. Moreover, because GA-SVM has better generalization ability and theoretical basis, its convergence speed and prediction accuracy are better than GA-BPNN. Then Grey Relational Analysis (GRA) and Shapley analysis were used to verify the interpretability of the GA-SVM model, which showed that the water-binder ratio had the most significant influence on the compressive strength. Finally, the combination of multiple input variables to evaluate the compressive strength supplemented this research, and again verified the significant influence of water-binder ratio, providing reference value for subsequent research. Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is a major global health concern, affecting millions of individuals worldwide. While existing literature predominantly focuses on disease classification using clinical data, there exists a critical research gap concerning HCV genotyping based on genomic sequences. Accurate HCV genotyping is essential for patient management and treatment decisions. While the neural models excel at capturing complex patterns, they still face challenges, such as data scarcity, that exist a lot in computational genomics. To overcome this challenges, this paper introduces an advanced deep learning approach for HCV genotyping based on the graphical representation of nucleotide sequences that outperforms classical approaches. Notably, it is effective for both partial and complete HCV genomes and addresses challenges associated with imbalanced datasets. In this work, ten HCV genotypes: 1a, 1b, 2a, 2b, 2c, 3a, 3b, 4, 5, and 6 were used in the analysis. This study utilizes Chaos Game Representation for 2D mapping of genomic sequences, employing self-supervised learning using convolutional autoencoder for deep feature extraction, resulting in an outstanding performance for HCV genotyping compared to various machine learning and deep learning models. This baseline provides a benchmark against which the performance of the proposed approach and other models can be evaluated. The experimental results showcase a remarkable classification accuracy of over 99%, outperforming traditional deep learning models. This performance demonstrates the capability of the proposed model to accurately identify HCV genotypes in both partial and complete sequences and in dealing with data scarcity for certain genotypes. Historically, the analysis of stimulus-dependent time–frequency patterns has been the cornerstone of most electroencephalography (EEG) studies. The abnormal oscillations in high-frequency waves associated with psychotic disorders during sensory and cognitive tasks have been studied many times. However, any significant dissimilarity in the resting-state low-frequency bands is yet to be established. Spectral analysis of the alpha and delta band waves shows the effectiveness of stimulus-independent EEG in identifying the abnormal activity patterns of pathological brains. A generalized model incorporating multiple frequency bands should be more efficient in associating potential EEG biomarkers with first-episode psychosis (FEP), leading to an accurate diagnosis. We explore multiple machine-learning methods, including random-forest, support vector machine, and Gaussian process classifier (GPC), to demonstrate the practicality of resting-state power spectral density (PSD) to distinguish patients of FEP from healthy controls. A comprehensive discussion of our preprocessing methods for PSD analysis and a detailed comparison of different models are included in this paper. The GPC model outperforms the other models with a specificity of 95.78% to show that PSD can be used as an effective feature extraction technique for analyzing and classifying resting-state EEG signals of psychiatric disorders. Tabular data analysis is a critical task in various domains, enabling us to uncover valuable insights from structured datasets. While traditional machine learning methods can be used for feature engineering and dimensionality reduction, they often struggle to capture the intricate relationships and dependencies within real-world datasets. In this paper, we present Multi-representation DeepInsight (MRep-DeepInsight), a novel extension of the DeepInsight method designed to enhance the analysis of tabular data. By generating multiple representations of samples using diverse feature extraction techniques, our approach is able to capture a broader range of features and reveal deeper insights. We demonstrate the effectiveness of MRep-DeepInsight on single-cell datasets, Alzheimer's data, and artificial data, showcasing an improved accuracy over the original DeepInsight approach and machine learning methods like random forest, XGBoost, LightGBM, FT-Transformer and L2-regularized logistic regression. Our results highlight the value of incorporating multiple representations for robust and accurate tabular data analysis. Effective management of dementia requires the timely detection of mild cognitive impairment (MCI). This paper introduces a multi-objective optimization approach for selecting EEG channels (and features) for the purpose of detecting MCI. Firstly, each EEG signal from each channel is decomposed into subbands using either variational mode decomposition (VMD) or discrete wavelet transform (DWT). A feature is then extracted from each subband using one of the following measures: standard deviation, interquartile range, band power, Teager energy, Katz's and Higuchi's fractal dimensions, Shannon entropy, sure entropy, or threshold entropy. Different machine learning techniques are used to classify the features of MCI cases from those of healthy controls. The classifier's performance is validated using leave-one-subject-out (LOSO) cross-validation (CV). The non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm (NSGA)-II is designed with the aim of minimizing the number of EEG channels (or features) and maximizing classification accuracy. The performance is evaluated using a publicly available online dataset containing EEGs from 19 channels recorded from 24 participants. The results demonstrate a significant improvement in performance when utilizing the NSGA-II algorithm. By selecting only a few appropriate EEG channels, the LOSO CV-based results show a significant improvement compared to using all 19 channels. Additionally, the outcomes indicate that accuracy can be further improved by selecting suitable features from different channels. For instance, by combining VMD and Teager energy, the SVM accuracy obtained using all channels is 74.24%. Interestingly, when only five channels are selected using NSGA-II, the accuracy increases to 91.56%. The accuracy is further improved to 95.28% when using only 8 features selected from 7 channels. This demonstrates that by choosing informative features or channels while excluding noisy or irrelevant information, the impact of noise is reduced, resulting in improved accuracy. These promising findings indicate that, with a limited number of channels and features, accurate diagnosis of MCI is achievable, which opens the door for its application in clinical practice. Aerial image data are becoming more widely available, and analysis techniques based on supervised learning are advancing their use in a wide variety of remote sensing contexts. However, supervised learning requires training datasets which are not always available or easy to construct with aerial imagery. In this respect, unsupervised machine learning techniques present important advantages. This work presents a novel pipeline to demonstrate how available aerial imagery can be used to better the provision of services related to the built environment, using the case study of road traffic collisions (RTCs) across three cities in the UK. In this paper, we show how aerial imagery can be leveraged to extract latent features of the built environment from the purely visual representation of top-down images. With these latent image features in hand to represent the urban structure, this work then demonstrates how hazardous road segments can be clustered to provide a data-augmented aid for road safety experts to enhance their nuanced understanding of how and where different types of RTCs occur. Sentence-level sentiment analysis (SLSA) aims to identify the overall sentiment polarity conveyed in a given sentence. The state-of-the-art performance of SLSA has been achieved by deep learning models. However, depending on the i.i.d (independent and identically distributed) assumption, the performance of these deep learning models may fall short in real scenarios, where the distributions of training and target data are almost certainly different to some extent. In this paper, we propose a supervised solution based on the non-i.i.d paradigm of gradual machine learning (GML) for SLSA. It begins with some labeled observations, and gradually labels target instances in the order of increasing hardness by iterative knowledge conveyance. It leverages labeled samples for supervised deep feature extraction, and constructs a factor graph based on the extracted features to enable gradual knowledge conveyance. Specifically, it employs a polarity classifier to detect polarity similarity between close neighbors in an embedding space, and a separate binary semantic network to extract implicit polarity relations between arbitrary instances. Our extensive experiments on benchmark datasets show that the proposed approach achieves the state-of-the-art performance on all benchmark datasets. The novel fault diagnosis method of gearbox based on Fourier Bessel series expansion-based empirical wavelet transform (FBEWT) and manifold regularization extreme learning machine (MRELM) is proposed to obtain excellent fault diagnosis results of gearbox in this paper. A new feature extraction strategy based on Fourier Bessel series expansion-based empirical wavelet transform is used to capture the key non-stationary features of the vibrational signal of gearbox, and significantly improve the diagnosis ability of gearbox. The ELM with manifold regularization is proposed for fault diagnosis of gearbox. In order to outstand the superiority and stability of the proposed FBEWT and manifold regularization ELM, the balanced dataset and unbalanced dataset, respectively, are used. Diabetes retinopathy (DR) is one of the leading causes of blindness globally. Early detection of this condition is essential for preventing patients' loss of eyesight caused by diabetes mellitus being untreated for an extended period. This paper proposes the design of an augmented bioinspired multidomain feature extraction and selection model for diabetic retinopathy severity estimation using an ensemble learning process. The proposed approach initiates by identifying DR severity levels from retinal images that segment the optical disc, macula, blood vessels, exudates, and hemorrhages using an adaptive thresholding process. Once the images are segmented, multidomain features are extracted from the retinal images, including frequency, entropy, cosine, gabor, and wavelet components. These data were fed into a novel Modified Moth Flame Optimization-based feature selection method that assisted in optimal feature selection. Finally, an ensemble model using various ML (machine learning) algorithms, which included Naive Bayes, K-Nearest Neighbours, Support Vector Machine, Multilayer Perceptron, Random Forests, and Logistic Regression were used to identify the various severity complications of DR. The experiments on different openly accessible data sources have shown that the proposed method outperformed conventional methods and achieved an Accuracy of 96.5% in identifying DR severity levels. Human activity recognition (HAR) is one of the key applications of health monitoring that requires continuous use of wearable devices to track daily activities. The most efficient supervised machine learning (ML)-based approaches for predicting human activity are based on a continuous stream of sensor data. Sensor data analysis for human activity recognition using conventional algorithms and deep learning (DL) models shows promising results, but evaluating their ambiguity in decision-making is still challenging. In order to solve these issues, the paper proposes a novel Wasserstein gradient flow legonet WGF-LN-based human activity recognition system. At first, the input data is pre-processed. From the pre-processed data, the features are extracted using Haar Wavelet mother- Symlet wavelet coefficient scattering feature extraction (HS-WSFE). After that, the interest features are selected from the extracted features using (Binomial Distribution integrated-Golden Eagle Optimization) BD-GEO. The important features are then post-processed using the scatter plot matrix method. Obtained post-processing features are finally given into the WGF-LN for classifying human activities. Due to the wide availability of easy-to-access content on social media, along with the advanced tools and inexpensive computing infrastructure, has made it very easy for people to produce deep fakes that can cause to spread disinformation and hoaxes. This rapid advancement can cause panic and chaos as anyone can easily create propaganda using these technologies. Hence, a robust system to differentiate between real and fake content has become crucial in this age of social media. This paper proposes an automated method to classify deep fake images by employing Deep Learning and Machine Learning based methodologies. Traditional Machine Learning (ML) based systems employing handcrafted feature extraction fail to capture more complex patterns that are poorly understood or easily represented using simple features. These systems cannot generalize well to unseen data. Moreover, these systems are sensitive to noise or variations in the data, which can reduce their performance. Hence, these problems can limit their usefulness in real-world applications where the data constantly evolves. The proposed framework initially performs an Error Level Analysis of the image to determine if the image has been modified. This image is then supplied to Convolutional Neural Networks for deep feature extraction. The resultant feature vectors are then classified via Support Vector Machines and K-Nearest Neighbors by performing hyper-parameter optimization. The proposed method achieved the highest accuracy of 89.5% via Residual Network and K-Nearest Neighbor. The results prove the efficiency and robustness of the proposed technique; hence, it can be used to detect deep fake images and reduce the potential threat of slander and propaganda. Ransomware attacks pose a serious threat to Internet resources due to their far-reaching effects. It's Zero-day variants are even more hazardous, as less is known about them. In this regard, when used for ransomware attack detection, conventional machine learning approaches may become data-dependent, insensitive to error cost, and thus may not tackle zero-day ransomware attacks. Zero-day ransomware have normally unseen underlying data distribution. This paper presents a Cost-Sensitive Pareto Ensemble strategy, CSPE-R to detect novel Ransomware attacks. Initially, the proposed framework exploits the unsupervised deep Contractive Auto Encoder (CAE) to transform the underlying varying feature space to a more uniform and core semantic feature space. To learn the robust features, the proposed CSPE-R ensemble technique explores different semantic spaces at various levels of detail. Heterogeneous base estimators are then trained over these extracted subspaces to find the core relevance between the various families of the ransomware attacks. Then, a novel Pareto Ensemble-based estimator selection strategy is implemented to achieve a cost-sensitive compromise between false positives and false negatives. Finally, the decision of selected estimators are aggregated to improve the detection against unknown ransomware attacks. Boosted by mobile communication technologies, Human Activity Recognition (HAR) based on smartphones has attracted more and more attentions of researchers. One of the main challenges is the classification time and accuracy in processing long-time dependent sequence samples with noisy or missed data. In this paper, a 1-D Convolution Neural Network (CNN)-based bi-directional Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) parallel model with attention mechanism (ConvBLSTM-PMwA) is proposed. The original features of sensors are segmented into sub-segments by well-designed equal time step sliding window, and fed into 1-D CNN-based bi-directional LSTM parallel layer to accelerate feature extraction with noisy and missed data. The weights of extracted features are redistributed by attention mechanism and integrated into complete features. At last, the final classification results are obtained with the full connection layer. The performance is evaluated on public UCI and WISDM HAR datasets. The results show that the ConvBLSTM-PMwA model performs better than the existing CNN and RNN models in both classification accuracy (96.71%) and computational time complexity (1.1 times faster at least), even if facing HAR data with noise. Recent research has shown promising results for the detection of aortic stenosis (AS) using cardio-mechanical signals. However, they are limited by two main factors: lacking physical explanations for decision-making on the existence of AS, and the need for auxiliary signals. The main goal of this paper is to address these shortcomings through a wearable inertial measurement unit (IMU), where the physical causes of AS are determined from IMU readings. To this end, we develop a framework based on seismo-cardiogram (SCG) and gyro-cardiogram (GCG) morphologies, where highly-optimized algorithms are designed to extract features deemed potentially relevant to AS. Extracted features are then analyzed through machine learning techniques for AS diagnosis. It is demonstrated that AS could be detected with 95.49–100.00% confidence. Based on the ablation study on the feature space, the GCG time-domain feature space holds higher consistency, i.e., 95.19–100.00%, with the presence of AS than HRV parameters with a low contribution of 66.00–80.00%. Furthermore, the robustness of the proposed method is evaluated by conducting analyses on the classification of the AS severity level. These analyses are resulted in a high confidence of 92.29%, demonstrating the reliability of the proposed framework. Additionally, game theory-based approaches are employed to rank the top features, among which GCG time-domain features are found to be highly consistent with both the occurrence and severity level of AS. This study investigates olfaction, a complex and not well-understood sensory modality. The chemical mechanism behind smell can be described by so far proposed two theories: vibrational and docking theories. The vibrational theory has been gaining acceptance lately but needs more extensive validation. To fill this gap for the first time, we, with the help of data-driven classification, clustering, and Explainable AI techniques, systematically analyze a large dataset of vibrational spectra (VS) of 3018 molecules obtained from the atomistic simulation. The study utlizes image representations of VS using Gramian Angular Fields and Markov Transition Fields, allowing computer vision techniques to be applied for better feature extraction and improved odor classification. Furthermore, we fuse the PCA-reduced fingerprint features with image features, which show additional improvement in classification results. We use two clustering methods, agglomerative hierarchical (AHC) and k-means, on dimensionality reduced (UMAP, MDS, t-SNE, and PCA) VS and image features, which shed further insight into the connections between molecular structure, VS, and odor. Additionally, we contrast our method with an earlier work that employed traditional machine learning on fingerprint features for the same dataset, and demonstrate that even with a representative subset of 3018 molecules, our deep learning model outperforms previous results. AMPylation is a biologically significant yet understudied post-translational modification where an adenosine monophosphate (AMP) group is added to Tyrosine and Threonine residues primarily. While recent work has illuminated the prevalence and functional impacts of AMPylation, experimental identification of AMPylation sites remains challenging. Computational prediction techniques provide a faster alternative approach. The predictive performance of machine learning models is highly dependent on the features used to represent the raw amino acid sequences. In this work, we introduce a novel feature extraction pipeline to encode the key properties relevant to AMPylation site prediction. We utilize a recently published dataset of curated AMPylation sites to develop our feature generation framework. We demonstrate the utility of our extracted features by training various machine learning classifiers, on various numerical representations of the raw sequences extracted with the help of our framework. Tenfold cross-validation is used to evaluate the model's capability to distinguish between AMPylated and non-AMPylated sites. The top-performing set of features extracted achieved MCC score of 0.58, Accuracy of 0.8, AUC-ROC of 0.85 and F1 score of 0.73. Recognizing an individual's preference state for potential romantic partners based on electroencephalogram (EEG) signals holds significant practical value in enhancing matchmaking success rates and preventing romance fraud. Despite some progress has been made in this field, challenges such as high-dimensional feature space and channel redundancy limited the technology's practical application. The aim of this study is to explore the most discriminative EEG features and channels, in order to enhance the recognition performance of the system, while maximizing the portable and practical value of EEG-based systems for recognizing romantic attraction. To achieve this goal, we first conducted an interesting simulated dating experiment to collect the necessary data. Next, EEG features were extracted from various dimensions, including band power and asymmetry index features. Then, we introduced a novel method for EEG feature and channel selection that combines the sequential forward selection (SFS) algorithm with the frequency-based feature subset integration (FFSI) algorithm. Finally, we used the random forest classifier (RFC) to determine a person's preference state for potential romantic partners. Experimental results indicate that the optimal feature subset, selected using the SFS-FFSI method, attained an average classification accuracy of 88.42%. Virus‒host protein‒lncRNA interaction (VHPLI) predictions are critical for decoding the molecular mechanisms of viral pathogens and host immune processes. Although VHPLI interactions have been predicted in both plants and animals, they have not been extensively studied in viruses. For the first time, we propose a new deep learning-based approach that consists mainly of a convolutional neural network and bidirectional long and short-term memory network modules in combination with transfer learning named CBIL‒VHPLI to predict viral–host protein‒lncRNA interactions. The models were first trained on large and diverse datasets (including plants, animals, etc.). Protein sequence features were extracted using a k-mer method combined with the one-hot encoding and composition–transition–distribution (CTD) methods, and lncRNA sequence features were extracted using a k-mer method combined with the one-hot encoding and Z curve methods. The results obtained on three independent external validation datasets showed that the pre-trained CBIL‒VHPLI model performed the best with an accuracy of approximately 0.9. Pretraining was followed by conducting transfer learning on a viral protein–human lncRNA dataset, and the fine-tuning results showed that the accuracy of CBIL‒VHPLI was 0.946, which was significantly greater than that of the previous models. The final case study results showed that CBIL‒VHPLI achieved a prediction reproducibility rate of 91.6% for the RIP-Seq experimental screening results. This model was then used to predict the interactions between human lncRNA PIK3CD-AS2 and the nonstructural protein 1 (NS1) of the H5N1 virus, and RNA pull-down experiments were used to prove the prediction readiness of the model in terms of prediction. The identification of anticancer peptides (ACPs) is crucial, especially in the development of peptide-based cancer therapy. The classical models such as Split Amino Acid Composition (SAAC) and Pseudo Amino Acid Composition (PseAAC) lack the incorporation of feature representation. These advancements improve the predictive accuracy and efficiency of ACP identification. Thus, the effort of this research is to propose and develop an advanced framework based on feature extraction. Thus, to achieve this objective herein we propose an Extended Dipeptide Composition (EDPC) framework. The proposed EDPC framework extends the dipeptide composition by considering the local sequence environment information and reforming the CD-HIT framework to remove noise and redundancy. To measure the accuracy, we have performed several experiments. These experiments were employed using four famous machine learning (ML) algorithms named; Support Vector Machine (SVM), Decision Tree (DT), Random Forest (RF), and K Nearest Neighbor (KNN). For comparisons, we have used accuracy, specificity, sensitivity, precision, recall, and F1-Score as evaluation criteria. The reliability of the proposed framework is further evaluated using statistical significance tests. As a result, the proposed EDPC framework exhibited enhanced performance than SAAC and PseAAC, where the SVM model delivered the highest accuracy of 96. 6% and significant enhancements in specificity, sensitivity, precision, and F1-score over multiple datasets. Due to the incorporation of enhanced feature representation and the incorporation of local and global sequence profiles proposed EDPC achieves higher classification performance. The proposed frameworks can deal with noise and also duplicating features. These are accompanied by a wide range of feature representations. Finally, our proposed framework can be used for clinical applications where ACP identification is essential. Future works will include extending to a larger variety of datasets, incorporating tertiary structural information, and using deep learning techniques to improve the proposed EDPC. The microarray gene expression data poses a tremendous challenge due to their curse of dimensionality problem. The sheer volume of features far surpasses available samples, leading to overfitting and reduced classification accuracy. Thus the dimensionality of microarray gene expression data must be reduced with efficient feature extraction methods to reduce the volume of data and extract meaningful information to enhance the classification accuracy and interpretability. In this research, we discover the uniqueness of applying STFT (Short Term Fourier Transform), LASSO (Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator), and EHO (Elephant Herding Optimisation) for extracting significant features from lung cancer and reducing the dimensionality of the microarray gene expression database. The classification of lung cancer is performed using the following classifiers: Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM), Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) with GMM, Detrended Fluctuation Analysis (DFA), Naive Bayes classifier (NBC), Firefly with GMM, Support Vector Machine with Radial Basis Kernel (SVM-RBF) and Flower Pollination Optimization (FPO) with GMM. The EHO feature extraction with the FPO-GMM classifier attained the highest accuracy in the range of 96.77, with an F1 score of 97.5, MCC of 0.92 and Kappa of 0.92. The reported results underline the significance of utilizing STFT, LASSO, and EHO for feature extraction in reducing the dimensionality of microarray gene expression data. The study aims to investigate the predictive capability of machine learning algorithms for omental metastasis in locally advanced gastric cancer (LAGC) and to compare the performance metrics of various machine learning predictive models. A retrospective collection of 478 pathologically confirmed LAGC patients was undertaken, encompassing both clinical features and arterial phase computed tomography images. Radiomic features were extracted using 3D Slicer software. Clinical and radiomic features were further filtered through lasso regression. Selected clinical and radiomic features were used to construct omental metastasis predictive models using support vector machine (SVM), decision tree (DT), random forest (RF), K-nearest neighbors (KNN), and logistic regression (LR). The models' performance metrics included accuracy, area under the curve (AUC) of the receiver operating characteristic curve, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), and negative predictive value (NPV). In the training cohort, the RF predictive model surpassed LR, SVM, DT, and KNN in terms of accuracy, AUC, sensitivity, specificity, PPV, and NPV. Compared to the other four predictive models, the RF model significantly improved PPV. In the test cohort, all five machine learning predictive models exhibited lower PPVs. The DT model demonstrated the most significant variation in performance metrics relative to the other models, with a sensitivity of 0.231 and specificity of 0.990. The LR-based predictive model had the lowest PPV at 0.210, compared to the other four models. In the external validation cohort, the performance metrics of the predictive models were generally consistent with those in the test cohort. The LR-based model for predicting omental metastasis exhibited a lower PPV. Epilepsy is a chronic neurological disease, characterized by spontaneous, unprovoked, recurrent seizures that may lead to long-term disability and premature death. Despite significant efforts made to improve epilepsy detection clinically and pre-clinically, the pervasive presence of noise in EEG signals continues to pose substantial challenges to their effective application. In addition, discriminant features for epilepsy detection have not been investigated yet. The objective of this study is to develop a hybrid model for epilepsy detection from noisy and fragmented EEG signals. We hypothesized that a hybrid model could surpass existing single models in epilepsy detection. Our approach involves manual noise rejection and a novel statistical channel selection technique to detect epilepsy even from noisy EEG signals. Our proposed Base-2-Meta stacking classifier achieved notable accuracy (0.98 ± 0.05), precision (0.98 ± 0.07), recall (0.98 ± 0.05), and F1 score (0.98 ± 0.04) even with noisy 5-s segmented EEG signals. Application of our approach to the specific problem like detection of epilepsy from noisy and fragmented EEG data reveals a performance that is not only superior to others, but also is translationally relevant, highlighting its potential application in a clinic setting, where EEG signals are often noisy or scanty. Our proposed metric DF-A (Discriminant feature-accuracy), for the first time, identified the most discriminant feature with models that give A accuracy or above (A = 95 used in this study). This groundbreaking approach allows for detecting discriminant features and can be used as potential electrographic biomarkers in epilepsy detection research. Hepatitis C, a particularly dangerous form of viral hepatitis caused by hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection, is a major socio-economic and public health problem. Due to the rapid development of deep learning, it has become a common practice to apply deep learning to the healthcare industry to improve the effectiveness and accuracy of disease identification. In order to improve the effectiveness and accuracy of hepatitis C detection, this study proposes an improved denoising autoencoder (IDAE) and applies it to hepatitis C disease detection. Conventional denoising autoencoder introduces random noise at the input layer of the encoder. However, due to the presence of these features, encoders that directly add random noise may mask certain intrinsic properties of the data, making it challenging to learn deeper features. In this study, the problem of data information loss in traditional denoising autoencoding is addressed by incorporating the concept of residual neural networks into an enhanced denoising autoencoder. In our experimental study, we applied this enhanced denoising autoencoder to the open-source Hepatitis C dataset and the results showed significant results in feature extraction. While existing baseline machine learning methods have less than 90% accuracy and integrated algorithms and traditional autoencoders have only 95% correctness, the improved IDAE achieves 99% accuracy in the downstream hepatitis C classification task, which is a 9% improvement over a single algorithm, and a nearly 4% improvement over integrated algorithms and other autoencoders. The above results demonstrate that IDAE can effectively capture key disease features and improve the accuracy of disease prediction in hepatitis C data. This indicates that IDAE has the potential to be widely used in the detection and management of hepatitis C and similar diseases, especially in the development of early warning systems, progression prediction and personalised treatment strategies. Gastric cancer is a highly prevalent disease that poses a serious threat to public health. In clinical practice, gastroscopy is frequently used by medical practitioners to screen for gastric cancer. However, the symptoms of gastric cancer at different stages of advancement vary significantly, particularly in the case of early gastric cancer (EGC). The manifestations of EGC are often indistinct, leading to a detection rate of less than 10%. In recent years, researchers have focused on leveraging deep learning algorithms to assist medical professionals in detecting EGC and thereby improve detection rates. To enhance the ability of deep learning to detect EGC and segment lesions in gastroscopic images, an Improved Mask R-CNN (IMR-CNN) model was proposed. This model incorporates a "Bi-directional feature extraction and fusion module" and a "Purification module for feature channel and space" based on the Mask R-CNN (MR-CNN). Our study includes a dataset of 1120 images of EGC for training and validation of the models. The experimental results indicate that the IMR-CNN model outperforms the original MR-CNN model, with Precision, Recall, Accuracy, Specificity and F1-Score values of 92.9%, 95.3%, 93.9%, 92.5% and 94.1%, respectively. Detection and classification of epileptic seizures from the EEG signals have gained significant attention in recent decades. Among other signals, EEG signals are extensively used by medical experts for diagnosing purposes. So, most of the existing research works developed automated mechanisms for designing an EEG-based epileptic seizure detection system. Machine learning techniques are highly used for reduced time consumption, high accuracy, and optimal performance. Still, it limits by the issues of high complexity in algorithm design, increased error value, and reduced detection efficacy. Thus, the proposed work intends to develop an automated epileptic seizure detection system with an improved performance rate. Here, the Finite Linear Haar wavelet-based Filtering (FLHF) technique is used to filter the input signals and the relevant set of features are extracted from the normalized output with the help of Fractal Dimension (FD) analysis. Then, the Grasshopper Bio-Inspired Swarm Optimization (GBSO) technique is employed to select the optimal features by computing the best fitness value and the Temporal Activation Expansive Neural Network (TAENN) mechanism is used for classifying the EEG signals to determine whether normal or seizure affected. Numerous intelligence algorithms, such as preprocessing, optimization, and classification, are used in the literature to identify epileptic seizures based on EEG signals. The primary issues facing the majority of optimization approaches are reduced convergence rates and higher computational complexity. Furthermore, the problems with machine learning approaches include a significant method complexity, intricate mathematical calculations, and a decreased training speed. Therefore, the goal of the proposed work is to put into practice efficient algorithms for the recognition and categorization of epileptic seizures based on EEG signals. The combined effect of the proposed FLHF, FD, GBSO, and TAENN models might dramatically improve disease detection accuracy while decreasing complexity of system along with time consumption as compared to the prior techniques. One of the advantages of inkjet printing in digital manufacturing is the ability to use multiple nozzles simultaneously to improve the productivity of the processes. However, the use of multiple nozzles makes inkjet status monitoring more difficult. The jetting nozzles must be carefully selected to ensure the quality of printed products, which is challenging for most inkjet processes that use multi-nozzles. In this article, we improved inkjet print head monitoring based on self-sensing signals by using machine learning algorithms. Specifically, supervised machine learning models were used to classify nozzle jetting conditions. For this purpose, the self-sensing signals were acquired, and the feature information was extracted for training. A vision algorithm was developed to label the nozzle status for classification. The trained models showed that the classification accuracy is higher than 99.6% when self-sensing signals are used for monitoring. We also proposed a so-called hybrid monitoring method using trained machine learning models, which divides the feature space into three regions based on predicted jetting probability: certain jetting, certain non-jetting, and doubt regions. It can be difficult/impossible to fully expand a coronary artery stent in a heavily calcified coronary artery lesion. Under-expanded stents are linked to later complications. Here we used machine/deep learning to analyze calcifications in pre-stent intravascular optical coherence tomography (IVOCT) images and predicted the success of vessel expansion. Pre- and post-stent IVOCT image data were obtained from 110 coronary lesions. Lumen and calcifications in pre-stent images were segmented using deep learning, and lesion features were extracted. We analyzed stent expansion along the lesion, enabling frame, segmental, and whole-lesion analyses. We trained regression models to predict the post-stent lumen area and then computed the stent expansion index (SEI). Best performance (root-mean-square-error = 0.04 ± 0.02 mm2, r = 0.94 ± 0.04, p < 0.0001) was achieved when we used features from both lumen and calcification to train a Gaussian regression model for segmental analysis of 31 frames in length. Stents with minimum SEI > 80% were classified as "well-expanded;" others were "under-expanded." Under-expansion classification results (e.g., AUC = 0.85 ± 0.02) were significantly improved over a previous, simple calculation, as well as other machine learning solutions. Electroencephalography (EEG), despite its inherited complexity, is a preferable brain signal for automatic human emotion recognition (ER), which is a challenging machine learning task with emerging applications. In any automatic ER, machine learning (ML) models classify emotions using the extracted features from the EEG signals, and therefore, such feature extraction is a crucial part of ER process. Recently, EEG channel connectivity features have been widely used in ER, where Pearson correlation coefficient (PCC), mutual information (MI), phase-locking value (PLV), and transfer entropy (TE) are well-known methods for connectivity feature map (CFM) construction. CFMs are typically formed in a two-dimensional configuration using the signals from two EEG channels, and such two-dimensional CFMs are usually symmetric and hold redundant information. This study proposes the construction of a more informative CFM that can lead to better ER. Specifically, the proposed innovative technique intelligently combines CFMs' measures of two different individual methods, and its outcomes are more informative as a fused CFM. Such CFM fusion does not incur additional computational costs in training the ML model. In this study, fused CFMs are constructed by combining every pair of methods from PCC, PLV, MI, and TE; and the resulting fused CFMs PCC + PLV, PCC + MI, PCC + TE, PLV + MI, PLV + TE, and MI + TE are used to classify emotion by convolutional neural network. Rigorous experiments on the DEAP benchmark EEG dataset show that the proposed CFMs deliver better ER performances than CFM with a single connectivity method (e.g., PCC). Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is characterized as a neurodevelopmental disorder with a heterogeneous nature, influenced by genetics and exhibiting diverse clinical presentations. In this study, we dissect Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) into its behavioral components, mirroring the diagnostic process used in clinical settings. Morphological features are extracted from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans, found in the publicly available dataset ABIDE II, identifying the most discriminative features that differentiate ASD within various behavioral domains. Then, each subject is categorized as having severe, moderate, or mild ASD, or typical neurodevelopment (TD), based on the behavioral domains of the Social Responsiveness Scale (SRS). Through this study, multiple artificial intelligence (AI) models are utilized for feature selection and classifying each ASD severity and behavioural group. A multivariate feature selection algorithm, investigating four different classifiers with linear and non-linear hypotheses, is applied iteratively while shuffling the training-validation subjects to find the set of cortical regions with statistically significant association with ASD. A set of six classifiers are optimized and trained on the selected set of features using 5-fold cross-validation for the purpose of severity classification for each behavioural group. Our AI-based model achieved an average accuracy of 96%, computed as the mean accuracy across the top-performing AI models for feature selection and severity classification across the different behavioral groups. The proposed AI model has the ability to accurately differentiate between the functionalities of specific brain regions, such as the left and right caudal middle frontal regions. We propose an AI-based model that dissects ASD into behavioral components. For each behavioral component, the AI-based model is capable of identifying the brain regions which are associated with ASD as well as utilizing those regions for diagnosis. The proposed system can increase the speed and accuracy of the diagnostic process and result in improved outcomes for individuals with ASD, highlighting the potential of AI in this area. The patients' vocal Parkinson's disease (PD) changes could be identified early on, allowing for management before physically incapacitating symptoms appear. In this work, static as well as dynamic speech characteristics that are relevant to PD identification are examined. Speech changes or communication issues are among the challenges that Parkinson's individuals may encounter. As a result, avoiding the potential consequences of speech difficulties brought on by the condition depends on getting the appropriate diagnosis early. PD patients' speech signals change significantly from those of healthy individuals. This research presents a hybrid model utilizing improved speech signals with dynamic feature breakdown using CNN and LSTM. The proposed hybrid model employs a new, pre-trained CNN with LSTM to recognize PD in linguistic features utilizing Mel-spectrograms derived from normalized voice signal and dynamic mode decomposition. The proposed Hybrid model works in various phases, which include Noise removal, extraction of Mel-spectrograms, feature extraction using pre-trained CNN model ResNet-50, and the final stage is applied for classification. An experimental analysis was performed using the PC-GITA disease dataset. The proposed hybrid model is compared with traditional NN and well-known machine learning-based CART and SVM & XGBoost models. The accuracy level achieved in Neural Network, CART, SVM, and XGBoost models is 72.69%, 84.21%, 73.51%, and 90.81%. The results show that under these four machine approaches of tenfold cross-validation and dataset splitting without samples overlapping one individual, the proposed hybrid model achieves an accuracy of 93.51%, significantly outperforming traditional ML models utilizing static features in detecting Parkinson's disease. Transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) have emerged as a promising alternative to noble metals in the field of electrocatalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction. However, previous attempts using machine learning to predict TMD properties, such as catalytic activity, have been shown to have limitations in their dependence on large amounts of training data and massive computations. Herein, we propose a genetic descriptor search that efficiently identifies a set of descriptors through a genetic algorithm, without requiring intensive calculations. We conducted both quantitative and qualitative experiments on a total of 70 TMDs to predict hydrogen adsorption free energy ( Δ G H ) with the generated descriptors. Flue-cured tobacco grading plays a crucial role in tobacco leaf purchase and the formulation of tobacco leaf groups. However, the traditional flue-cured tobacco grading mode is usually manual, which is time-consuming, laborious, and subjective. Hence, it is essential to research more efficient and intelligent flue-cured tobacco grading methods. Most existing methods suffer from the more classes less accuracy problem. Meanwhile, limited by different industry applications, the flue-cured tobacco datasets are hard to be obtained publicly. The existing methods employ relatively small and lower resolution tobacco data that are hard to apply in practice. Therefore, aiming at the insufficiency of feature extraction ability and the inadaptability to multiple flue-cured tobacco grades, we collected the largest and highest resolution dataset and proposed an efficient flue-cured tobacco grading method based on deep densely convolutional network (DenseNet). Diverging from other approaches, our method has a unique connectivity pattern of convolutional neural network that concatenates preceding tobacco feature data. This mode connects all previous layers to the subsequent layer directly for tobacco feature transmission. This idea can better extract depth tobacco image information features and transmit each layer's data, thereby reducing the information loss and encouraging tobacco feature reuse. Then, we designed the whole data pre-processing process and experimented with traditional and deep learning algorithms to verify our dataset usability. The experimental results showed that DenseNet could be easily adapted by changing the output of the fully connected layers. With an accuracy of 0.997, significantly higher than the other intelligent tobacco grading methods, DenseNet came to the best model for solving our flue-cured tobacco grading problem. Cross-domain few-shot learning is one of the research highlights in machine learning. The difficulty lies in the accuracy drop of cross-domain network learning on a single domain due to the differences between the domains. To alleviate the problem, according to the idea of contour cognition and the process of human recognition, we propose a few-shot learning method based on pseudo-Siamese convolution neural network. The original image and the sketch map are respectively sent to the branch network in the pre-training and meta-learning process. While maintaining the original image features, the contour features are separately extracted as branch for training at the same time to improve the accuracy and generalization of learning. We conduct cross-domain few-shot learning experiments and good results have been achieved using mini-ImageNet as source domain, EuroSAT and ChestX as the target domains. Early detection of Parkinson's disease (PD) is very important in clinical diagnosis for preventing disease development. In this study, we present efficient discrete wavelet transform (DWT)-based methods for detecting PD from health control (HC) in two cases, namely, off-and on-medication. First, the EEG signals are preprocessed to remove major artifacts before being decomposed into several EEG sub-bands (approximate and details) using DWT. The features are then extracted from the wavelet packet-derived reconstructed signals using different entropy measures, namely, log energy entropy, Shannon entropy, threshold entropy, sure entropy, and norm entropy. Several machine learning techniques are investigated to classify the resulting PD/HC features. The effects of DWT coefficients and brain regions on classification accuracy are being investigated as well. Two public datasets are used to verify the proposed methods: the SanDiego dataset (31 subjects, 93 min) and the UNM dataset (54 subjects, 54 min). The results are promising and show that four entropy measures: log energy entropy, threshold entropy, sure entropy, and modified-Shannon entropy (TShEn) lead to high classification accuracy, indicating they are good biomarkers for PD detection. With the SanDiego dataset, the classification results of off-medication PD versus HC are 99.89, 99.87, and 99.91 for accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity, respectively, using the combination of DWT + TShEn and KNN classifier. Using the same combination, the results of on-medication PD versus HC are 94.21, 93.33, and 95%. With the UNM dataset, the obtained classification accuracy is around 99.5% in both cases of off-and on-medication PD using DWT + TShEn + SVM and DWT + ThEn + KNN, respectively. The results also demonstrate the importance of all DWT coefficients and that selecting a suitable small number of EEG channels from several brain regions could improve the classification accuracy. In this study, fault diagnosis method of bearing utilizing gray level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM) and multi-beetles antennae search algorithm (MBASA)-based kernel extreme learning machine (KELM) is presented. In the proposed method, feature extraction of time–frequency image based on GLCM is proposed to extract the features of the bearing vibration signal, and multi-beetles antennae search algorithm-based KELM (MBASA-KELM) is presented to recognize the states of bearing. KELM employs the kernel-based framework, which has better generalization than traditional extreme learning machine, and it is necessary to look for an excellent optimization algorithm to select appropriate regularization parameter and kernel parameter of the KELM model because these parameters of the KELM model can affect its performance. As traditional beetle antennae search algorithm only employs one beetle, which is difficult to find the optimal parameters when the ranges of the parameters to be optimized are wide, multi-beetles antennae search algorithm (MBASA) employing multi-beetles is presented to select the regularization parameter and kernel parameter of KELM. Machine learning (ML) algorithms are becoming increasingly pervasive in the domains of medical diagnostics and prognostication, afforded by complex deep learning architectures that overcome the limitations of manual feature extraction. In this systematic review and meta-analysis, we provide an update on current progress of ML algorithms in point-of-care (POC) automated diagnostic classification systems for lesions of the oral cavity. Studies reporting performance metrics on ML algorithms used in automatic classification of oral regions of interest were identified and screened by 2 independent reviewers from 4 databases. Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines were followed. 35 studies were suitable for qualitative synthesis, and 31 for quantitative analysis. Outcomes were assessed using a bivariate random-effects model following an assessment of bias and heterogeneity. 4 distinct methodologies were identified for POC diagnosis: (1) clinical photography; (2) optical imaging; (3) thermal imaging; (4) analysis of volatile organic compounds. Estimated AUROC across all studies was 0.935, and no difference in performance was identified between methodologies. We discuss the various classical and modern approaches to ML employed within identified studies, and highlight issues that will need to be addressed for implementation of automated classification systems in screening and early detection. The use of multicentric data is becoming essential for developing generalizable radiomic signatures. In particular, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) data used in brain oncology are often heterogeneous in terms of scanners and acquisitions, which significantly impact quantitative radiomic features. Various methods have been proposed to decrease dependency, including methods acting directly on MR images, i.e., based on the application of several preprocessing steps before feature extraction or the ComBat method, which harmonizes radiomic features themselves. The ComBat method used for radiomics may be misleading and presents some limitations, such as the need to know the labels associated with the "batch effect". In addition, a statistically representative sample is required and the applicability of a signature whose batch label is not present in the train set is not possible. This work aimed to compare a priori and a posteriori radiomic harmonization methods and propose a code adaptation to be machine learning compatible. Furthermore, we have developed AutoComBat, which aims to automatically determine the batch labels, using either MRI metadata or quality metrics as inputs of the proposed constrained clustering. A heterogeneous dataset consisting of high and low-grade gliomas coming from eight different centers was considered. The different methods were compared based on their ability to decrease relative standard deviation of radiomic features extracted from white matter and on their performance on a classification task using different machine learning models. ComBat and AutoComBat using image-derived quality metrics as inputs for batch assignment and preprocessing methods presented promising results on white matter harmonization, but with no clear consensus for all MR images. Preprocessing showed the best results on the T1w-gd images for the grading task. For T2w-flair, AutoComBat, using either metadata plus quality metrics or metadata alone as inputs, performs better than the conventional ComBat, highlighting its potential for data harmonization. Over the past few years, the processing of motor imagery (MI) electroencephalography (EEG) signals has been attracted for developing brain-computer interface (BCI) applications, since feature extraction and classification of these signals are extremely difficult due to the inherent complexity and tendency to artifact properties of them. The BCI systems can provide a direct interaction pathway/channel between the brain and a peripheral device, hence the MI EEG-based BCI systems seem crucial to control external devices for patients suffering from motor disabilities. The current study presents a semi-supervised model based on three-stage feature extraction and machine learning algorithms for MI EEG signal classification in order to improve the classification accuracy with smaller number of deep features for distinguishing right- and left-hand MI tasks. Stockwell transform is employed at the first phase of the proposed feature extraction method to generate two-dimensional time–frequency maps (TFMs) from one-dimensional EEG signals. Next, the convolutional neural network (CNN) is applied to find deep feature sets from TFMs. Then, the semi-supervised discriminant analysis (SDA) is utilized to minimize the number of descriptors. Finally, the performance of five classifiers, including support vector machine, discriminant analysis, k-nearest neighbor, decision tree, random forest, and the fusion of them are compared. The hyperparameters of SDA and mentioned classifiers are optimized by Bayesian optimization to maximize the accuracy. The presented model is validated using BCI competition II dataset III and BCI competition IV dataset 2b. Radiomics-based machine learning classifiers have shown potential for detecting bone metastases (BM) and for evaluating BM response to radiotherapy (RT). However, current radiomics models require large datasets of images with expert-segmented 3D regions of interest (ROIs). Full ROI segmentation is time consuming and oncologists often outline just RT treatment fields in clinical practice. This presents a challenge for real-world radiomics research. As such, a method that simplifies BM identification but does not compromise the power of radiomics is needed. The objective of this study was to investigate the feasibility of radiomics models for BM detection using lesion-center-based geometric ROIs. The planning-CT images of 170 patients with non-metastatic lung cancer and 189 patients with spinal BM were used. The point locations of 631 BM and 674 healthy bone (HB) regions were identified by experts. ROIs with various geometric shapes were centered and automatically delineated on the identified locations, and 107 radiomics features were extracted. Various feature selection methods and machine learning classifiers were evaluated. Our point-based radiomics pipeline was successful in differentiating BM from HB. Lesion-center-based segmentation approach greatly simplifies the process of preparing images for use in radiomics studies and avoids the bottleneck of full ROI segmentation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Complete pathological response (pCR) to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) is a prognostic factor for breast cancer (BC) patients and is correlated with improved survival. However, pCR rates are variable to standard NAC, depending on BC subtype. This study investigates quantitative digital histopathology coupled with machine learning (ML) to predict NAC response a priori. Clinicopathologic data and digitized slides of BC core needle biopsies were collected from 149 patients treated with NAC. The nuclei within the tumor regions were segmented on the histology images of biopsy samples using a weighted U-Net model. Five pathomic feature subsets were extracted from segmented digitized samples, including the morphological, intensity-based, texture, graph-based and wavelet features. Seven ML experiments were conducted with different feature sets to develop a prediction model of therapy response using a gradient boosting machine with decision trees. The models were trained and optimized using a five-fold cross validation on the training data and evaluated using an unseen independent test set. The prediction model developed with the best clinical features (tumor size, tumor grade, age, and ER, PR, HER2 status) demonstrated an area under the ROC curve (AUC) of 0.73. Various pathomic feature subsets resulted in models with AUCs in the range of 0.67 and 0.87, with the best results associated with the graph-based and wavelet features. The selected features among all subsets of the pathomic and clinicopathologic features included four wavelet and three graph-based features and no clinical features. The predictive model developed with these features outperformed the other models, with an AUC of 0.90, a sensitivity of 85% and a specificity of 82% on the independent test set. The results demonstrated the potential of quantitative digital histopathology features integrated with ML methods in predicting BC response to NAC. Impairment of navigation is one of the earliest symptoms of Alzheimer's disease (AD), but to date studies have involved proxy tests of navigation rather than studies of real life behaviour. Here we use GPS tracking to measure ecological outdoor behaviour in AD. The aim was to use data-driven machine learning approaches to explore spatial metrics within real life navigational traces that discriminate AD patients from controls. 15 AD patients and 18 controls underwent tracking of their outdoor navigation over two weeks. Three kinds of spatiotemporal features of segments were extracted, characterising the mobility domain (entropy, segment similarity, distance from home), spatial shape (total turning angle, segment complexity), and temporal characteristics (stop duration). Patients significantly differed from controls on entropy (p-value 0.008), segment similarity (p-value 10 - 7 ), and distance from home (p-value 10 - 14 ). Graph-based analyses yielded preliminary data indicating that topological features assessing the connectivity of visited locations may also differentiate patients from controls. In conclusion, our results show that specific outdoor navigation features discriminate AD patients from controls, which has significant implication for future AD diagnostics, outcome measures and interventions. Diabetes is a serious metabolic disorder with high rate of prevalence worldwide; the disease has the characteristics of improper secretion of insulin in pancreas that results in high glucose level in blood. The disease is also associated with other complications such as cardiovascular disease, retinopathy, neuropathy and nephropathy. The development of computer aided decision support system is inevitable field of research for disease diagnosis that will assist clinicians for the early prognosis of diabetes and to facilitate necessary treatment at the earliest. In this research study, a Traditional Chinese Medicine based diabetes diagnosis is presented based on analyzing the extracted features of panoramic tongue images such as color, texture, shape, tooth markings and fur. The feature extraction is done by Convolutional Neural Network (CNN)—ResNet 50 architecture, and the classification is performed by the proposed Deep Radial Basis Function Neural Network (RBFNN) algorithm based on auto encoder learning mechanism. The proposed model is simulated in MATLAB environment and evaluated with performance metrics—accuracy, precision, sensitivity, specificity, F1 score, error rate, and receiver operating characteristics (ROC). On comparing with existing models, the proposed CNN based Deep RBFNN machine learning classifier model outperformed with better classification performance and proving its effectiveness. This study attempts to explore the radiomics-based features of multi-parametric magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and construct a machine-learning model to predict the blood supply in vestibular schwannoma preoperatively. By retrospectively collecting the preoperative MRI data of patients with vestibular schwannoma, patients were divided into poor and rich blood supply groups according to the intraoperative recording. Patients were divided into training and test cohorts (2:1), randomly. Stable features were retained by intra-group correlation coefficients (ICCs). Four feature selection methods and four classification methods were evaluated to construct favorable radiomics classifiers. The mean area under the curve (AUC) obtained in the test set for different combinations of feature selecting methods and classifiers was calculated separately to compare the performance of the models. Obtain and compare the best combination results with the performance of differentiation through visual observation in clinical diagnosis. 191 patients were included in this study. 3918 stable features were extracted from each patient. Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) and logistic regression model was selected as the optimal combinations after comparing the AUC calculated by models, which predicted the blood supply of vestibular schwannoma by K-Fold cross-validation method with a mean AUC = 0.88 and F1-score = 0.83.
