The widespread adoption of smartphones coupled with advancements in artificial intelligence has significantly propelled the use of intelligent personal assistants (IPAs). These digital assistants have become indispensable for many users, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. Employing coviance-based structural equation modeling (CB-SEM) and analyzing data from 260 participants, this study explores the key factors influencing IPA usage intensity. Contrary to expectations, affective risk perception showed no significant impact on either IPA usage or parasocial interaction during the pandemic. In stark contrast, cabin fever syndrome significantly influenced both IPA usage and parasocial interaction, underscoring the role of environmental and psychological stressors in shaping technology use. Furthermore, loneliness was found to significantly enhance parasocial interaction with IPAs, though it did not affect usage intensity. The findings highlight a substantial connection between parasocial interaction and IPA usage intensity, suggesting that users who engage in human-like interactions with IPAs tend to use them more extensively. These insights not only deepen our understanding of how IPAs are utilized during health crises but also point to potential directions for developing IPAs that are more responsive to users' emotional and social needs. Evidence is accumulating that the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) can bring forth deficits in executive functioning via alterations in the dopaminergic system. Importantly, dopaminergic pathways have been shown to modulate how actions and perceptions are integrated within the brain. Such alterations in event file binding could thus underlie the cognitive deficits developing after a COVID-19 infection. We examined action-perception integration in a group of young people (11–19 years of age) that had been infected with COVID-19 before study participation (n = 34) and compared them to a group of uninfected healthy controls (n = 29) on the behavioral (i.e., task accuracy, reaction time) and neurophysiological (EEG) level using an established event file binding paradigm. Groups did not differ from each other regarding demographic variables or in reporting psychiatric symptoms. Overall, multiple lines of evidence (behavioral and neurophysiological) suggest that action-perception integration is preserved in adolescents who suffered from COVID-19 prior to study participation. Event file binding processes were intact in both groups on all levels. While cognitive impairments can occur following a COVID-19 infection, the study demonstrates that action-perception integration as one of the basic building blocks of cognition seems to be largely unaffected in adolescents with a rather mild course of the disease. To evaluate the correlation between chromosomal abnormalities and fetal aberrant right subclavian artery (ARSA) with or without additional ultrasound anomalies (UAs). A total of 340 fetuses diagnosed with ARSA by ultrasound between December, 2015, and July, 2021, were included. All cases were subdivided into three groups: (A) 121 (35.6%) cases with isolated ARSA, (B) 91 (26.8%) cases with soft markers, and (C) 128 (37.6%) cases complicated with other UAs. Invasive testing was performed via amniotic fluid or cord blood karyotyping and chromosomal microarray analysis (CMA) in parallel, and pregnancy outcomes were followed. Karyotype abnormalities were identified in 18/340 (5.3%) patients. Karyotype abnormalities in Groups A, B, and C were 0/121 (0.0%), 7/91 (7.7%), and 11/128 (8.6%), respectively. CMA abnormalities with clinically significant variants were detected in 37/340 (10.9%) cases, of which 22q11.2 deletion syndrome and trisomy 21 accounted for 48.6% (18/37). The overall abnormal CMA with clinically significant variant detection rates in Groups A, B, and C were 3/121(2.5%), 13/91 (14.3%), and 21/128 (16.4%), respectively. There were significant difference in clinically significant CMA anomalies detection rate between Groups A and C (p < 0.05), as well as Groups A and B (p < 0.05). Comparing CMA to karyotyping showed a clinically significant incremental yield in Group C (7.8%, 10/128) compared to Groups A (2.5%, 3/121) and B (6.6%, 6/91) (p > 0.05). Fetal ARSA with additional UAs, concurred with cardiac and extra-cardiac anomalies, constitutes a high-risk factor for chromosomal aberrations, especially for pathogenic or likely pathogenic copy number variants. The present work focuses on the analysis of the scaling features of electron density fluctuations in the mid- and high-latitude topside ionosphere under different conditions of geomagnetic activity. The aim is to understand whether it is possible to identify a proxy that may provide information on the properties of electron density fluctuations and on the possible physical mechanisms at their origin, as for instance, turbulence phenomena. So, we selected about 4 years (April 2014–February 2018) of 1 Hz electron density measurements recorded on-board ESA Swarm A satellite. Using the Auroral Electrojet (AE) index, we identified two different geomagnetic conditions: quiet (AE < 50 nT) and active (AE > 300 nT). For both datasets, we evaluated the first- and second-order scaling exponents and an intermittency coefficient associated with the electron density fluctuations. Then, the joint probability distribution between each of these quantities and the rate of change of electron density index was also evaluated. We identified two families of plasma density fluctuations characterized by different mean values of both the scaling exponents and the considered ionospheric index, suggesting that different mechanisms (instabilities/turbulent processes) can be responsible for the observed scaling features. Furthermore, a clear different localization of the two families in the magnetic latitude—magnetic local time plane is found and its dependence on geomagnetic activity levels is analyzed. These results may well have a bearing about the capability of recognizing the turbulent character of irregularities using a typical ionospheric plasma irregularity index as a proxy. The effects of vitamin A and/or vitamin D deficiency were studied in an Arf−/− BCR-ABL acute lymphoblastic leukemia murine model. Vitamin D sufficient mice died earlier (p = 0.003) compared to vitamin D deficient (VDD) mice. Vitamin A deficient (VAD) mice fared worst with more rapid disease progression and decreased survival. Mice deficient for vitamins A and D (VADD) had disease progression similar to VAD mice. Regulatory T cells, previously shown to associate with poor BCR-ABL leukemia control, were present at higher frequencies among CD4+ splenocytes of vitamin A deficient vs. sufficient mice. In vitro studies demonstrated 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D (1,25(OH)2VD3) increased the number of BCR-ABL ALL cells only when co-cultured with bone marrow stroma. 1,25(OH)2VD3 induced CXCL12 expression in vivo and in vitro in stromal cells and CXCL12 increased stromal migration and the number of BCR-ABL blasts. Vitamin D plus leukemia reprogrammed the marrow increasing production of collagens, potentially trapping ALL blasts. Vitamin A (all trans retinoic acid, ATRA) treated leukemic cells had increased apoptosis, decreased cells in S-phase, and increased cells in G0/G1. ATRA signaled through the retinoid X receptor to decrease BCR-ABL leukemic cell viability. In conclusion, vitamin A and D deficiencies have opposing effects on mouse survival from BCR-ABL ALL. The therapy of colorectal cancer (CRC) patients is often unsuccessful because of the presence of cancer stem cells (CSCs) resistant to conventional approaches. Dendritic cells (DC)-based protocols are believed to effectively supplement CRC therapy. Our study was aimed to assess how the number and properties of CSCs isolated from tumor tissue of CRC patients will affect the biological characteristics of in vitro modified DCs. Similar procedures were conducted with the using of CRC HCT116 and HT29 cell lines. We found that the detailed configuration of CSC-like markers significantly influenced the maturation and activation of DCs after stimulation with cancer cells lysates or culture supernatants. This basic stimulatory effect was enhanced by LPS that is normally present in CRC CSCs niche. The increased number of CD29+ and CD44+ CSCs presented the opposite impact on treated DCs as showed by many significant correlations. The CD133+ CSCs seemed to impair the functions of DCs. The more CD133+ CSCs in tumor sample the lower number of activated DCs evidenced after stimulation. Moreover, our results showed superiority of the spherical culture model over the adherent one since spherical HCT116 and HT29 cells presented similar influence on DCs properties as CRC patients cancer cells.
