There is increasing focus on applying deep learning methods to electrocardiograms (ECGs), with recent studies showing that neural networks (NNs) can predict future heart failure or atrial fibrillation from the ECG alone. However, large numbers of ECGs are needed to train NNs, and many ECGs are currently only in paper format, which are not suitable for NN training. We developed a fully-automated online ECG digitisation tool to convert scanned paper ECGs into digital signals. Using automated horizontal and vertical anchor point detection, the algorithm automatically segments the ECG image into separate images for the 12 leads and a dynamical morphological algorithm is then applied to extract the signal of interest. We then validated the performance of the algorithm on 515 digital ECGs, of which 45 were printed, scanned and redigitised. The automated digitisation tool achieved 99.0% correlation between the digitised signals and the ground truth ECG (n = 515 standard 3-by-4 ECGs) after excluding ECGs with overlap of lead signals. Without exclusion, the performance of average correlation was from 90 to 97% across the leads on all 3-by-4 ECGs. There was a 97% correlation for 12-by-1 and 3-by-1 ECG formats after excluding ECGs with overlap of lead signals. Without exclusion, the average correlation of some leads in 12-by-1 ECGs was 60-70% and the average correlation of 3-by-1 ECGs achieved 80-90%. ECGs that were printed, scanned, and redigitised, our tool achieved 96% correlation with the original signals. We have developed and validated a fully-automated, user-friendly, online ECG digitisation tool. Unlike other available tools, this does not require any manual segmentation of ECG signals. In recent years, a variety of deep learning networks for cardiac MRI (CMR) segmentation have been developed and analyzed. However, nearly all of them are focused on cine CMR under breathold. In this work, accuracy of deep learning methods is assessed for volumetric analysis (via segmentation) of the left ventricle in real-time free-breathing CMR at rest and under exercise stress. Data from healthy volunteers (n = 15) for cine and real-time free-breathing CMR at rest and under exercise stress were analyzed retrospectively. Exercise stress was performed using an ergometer in the supine position. Segmentations of two deep learning methods, a commercially available technique (comDL) and an openly available network (nnU-Net), were compared to a reference model created via the manual correction of segmentations obtained with comDL. Segmentations of left ventricular endocardium (LV), left ventricular myocardium (MYO), and right ventricle (RV) are compared for both end-systolic and end-diastolic phases and analyzed with Dice's coefficient. The volumetric analysis includes the cardiac function parameters LV end-diastolic volume (EDV), LV end-systolic volume (ESV), and LV ejection fraction (EF), evaluated with respect to both absolute and relative differences. For cine CMR, nnU-Net and comDL achieve Dice's coefficients above 0.95 for LV and 0.9 for MYO, and RV. For real-time CMR, the accuracy of nnU-Net exceeds that of comDL overall. For real-time CMR at rest, nnU-Net achieves Dice's coefficients of 0.94 for LV, 0.89 for MYO, and 0.90 for RV and the mean absolute differences between nnU-Net and the reference are 2.9 mL for EDV, 3.5 mL for ESV, and 2.6% for EF. For real-time CMR under exercise stress, nnU-Net achieves Dice's coefficients of 0.92 for LV, 0.85 for MYO, and 0.83 for RV and the mean absolute differences between nnU-Net and reference are 11.4 mL for EDV, 2.9 mL for ESV, and 3.6% for EF. Deep learning methods designed or trained for cine CMR segmentation can perform well on real-time CMR. For real-time free-breathing CMR at rest, the performance of deep learning methods is comparable to inter-observer variability in cine CMR and is usable for fully automatic segmentation. Thyroid nodules are a common occurrence, and although most are non-cancerous, some can be malignant. The American College of Radiology has developed the Thyroid Imaging Reporting and Data System (TI-RADS) to standardize the interpretation and reporting of thyroid ultrasound results. Within TI-RADS, a category 4 designation signifies a thyroid nodule with an intermediate level of suspicion for malignancy. Accurate classification of these nodules is crucial for proper management, as it can potentially reduce unnecessary surgeries and improve patient outcomes. This study utilized deep learning techniques to effectively classify TI-RADS category 4 thyroid nodules as either benign or malignant. A total of 500 patients were included in the study and randomly divided into a training group (350 patients) and a test group (150 patients). The YOLOv3 model was constructed and evaluated using various metrics, achieving an 84% accuracy in the classification of TI-RADS category 4 thyroid nodules. Based on the predictions of the model, along with clinical and ultrasound data, a nomogram was developed. The performance of the nomogram was superior in both the training and testing groups. Furthermore, the calibration curve demonstrated good agreement between predicted probabilities and actual outcomes. Decision curve analysis further confirmed that the nomogram provided greater net benefits. Ultimately, the YOLOv3 model and nomogram successfully improved the accuracy of distinguishing between benign and malignant TI-RADS category 4 thyroid nodules, which is crucial for proper management and improved patient outcomes., (© 2024. Accurately predicting population mortality rates is crucial for effective retirement insurance and economic policy formulation. Recent advancements in deep learning time series forecasting (DLTSF) have led to improved mortality rate predictions compared to traditional models like Lee-Carter (LC). This study focuses on mortality rate prediction in large clusters across Europe. By utilizing PCA dimensionality reduction and statistical clustering techniques, we integrate age features from high-dimensional mortality data of multiple countries, analyzing their similarities and differences. To capture the heterogeneous characteristics, an adaptive adjustment matrix is generated, incorporating sequential variation and spatial geographical information. Additionally, a combination of graph neural networks and a transformer network with an adaptive adjustment matrix is employed to capture the spatiotemporal features between different clusters. Extensive numerical experiments using data from the Human Mortality Database validate the superiority of the proposed GT-A model over traditional LC models and other classic neural networks in terms of prediction accuracy. The honey bee is the most essential pollinator and a key contributor to the natural ecosystem. There are numerous ways for thousands of bees in a hive to communicate with one another. Individual trajectories and social interactions are thus complex behavioral features that can provide valuable information for an ecological study. To study honey bee behavior, the key challenges that have resulted from unreliable studies include complexity (high density of similar objects, small objects, and occlusion), the variety of background scenes, the dynamism of individual bee movements, and the similarity between the bee body and the background in the beehive. This study investigated the tracking of individual bees in a beehive environment using a deep learning approach and a Kalman filter. Detection of multiple bees and individual object segmentation were performed using Mask R-CNN with a ResNet-101 backbone network. Subsequently, the Kalman filter was employed for tracking multiple bees by tracking the body of each bee across a sequence of image frames. Three metrics were used to assess the proposed framework: mean average precision (mAP) for multiple-object detection and segmentation tasks, CLEAR MOT for multiple object tracking tasks, and MOTS for multiple object tracking and segmentation tasks. For CLEAR MOT and MOTS metrics, accuracy (MOTA and MOTSA) and precision (MOTP and MOTSP) are considered. By employing videos from a custom-designed observation beehive, recorded at a frame rate of 30 frames per second (fps) and utilizing a continuous frame rate of 10 fps as input data, our system displayed impressive performance. It yielded satisfactory outcomes for tasks involving segmentation and tracking of multiple instances of bee behavior. For the multiple-object segmentation task based on Mask R-CNN, we achieved a 0.85 mAP. For the multiple-object-tracking task with the Kalman filter, we achieved 77.48% MOTA, 79.79% MOTSP, and 79.56% recall. Accurately classifying brain tumor types is critical for timely diagnosis and potentially saving lives. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a widely used non-invasive method for obtaining high-contrast grayscale brain images, primarily for tumor diagnosis. The application of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) in deep learning has revolutionized diagnostic systems, leading to significant advancements in medical imaging interpretation. In this study, we employ a transfer learning-based fine-tuning approach using EfficientNets to classify brain tumors into three categories: glioma, meningioma, and pituitary tumors. We utilize the publicly accessible CE-MRI Figshare dataset to fine-tune five pre-trained models from the EfficientNets family, ranging from EfficientNetB0 to EfficientNetB4. Our approach involves a two-step process to refine the pre-trained EfficientNet model. First, we initialize the model with weights from the ImageNet dataset. Then, we add additional layers, including top layers and a fully connected layer, to enable tumor classification. We conduct various tests to assess the robustness of our fine-tuned EfficientNets in comparison to other pre-trained models. Additionally, we analyze the impact of data augmentation on the model's test accuracy. To gain insights into the model's decision-making, we employ Grad-CAM visualization to examine the attention maps generated by the most optimal model, effectively highlighting tumor locations within brain images. Our results reveal that using EfficientNetB2 as the underlying framework yields significant performance improvements. Agriculture plays a pivotal role in the economies of developing countries by providing livelihoods, sustenance, and employment opportunities in rural areas. However, crop diseases pose a significant threat to both farmers' incomes and food security. Furthermore, these diseases also show adverse effects on human health by causing various illnesses. Till date, only a limited number of studies have been conducted to identify and classify diseased cauliflower plants but they also face certain challenges such as insufficient disease surveillance mechanisms, the lack of comprehensive datasets that are properly labelled as well as are of high quality, and the considerable computational resources that are necessary for conducting thorough analysis. In view of the aforementioned challenges, the primary objective of this manuscript is to tackle these significant concerns and enhance understanding regarding the significance of cauliflower disease identification and detection in rural agriculture through the use of advanced deep transfer learning techniques. The work is conducted on the four classes of cauliflower diseases i.e. Bacterial spot rot, Black rot, Downy Mildew, and No disease which are taken from VegNet dataset. Ten deep transfer learning models such as EfficientNetB0, Xception, EfficientNetB1, MobileNetV2, EfficientNetB2, DenseNet201, EfficientNetB3, InceptionResNetV2, EfficientNetB4, and ResNet152V2, are trained and examined on the basis of root mean square error, recall, precision, F1-score, accuracy, and loss. Remarkably, EfficientNetB1 achieved the highest validation accuracy (99.90%), lowest loss (0.16), and root mean square error (0.40) during experimentation. The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is transitioning into the endemic phase. Nonetheless, it is crucial to remain mindful that pandemics related to infectious respiratory diseases (IRDs) can emerge unpredictably. Therefore, we aimed to develop and validate a severity assessment model for IRDs, including COVID-19, influenza, and novel influenza, using CT images on a multi-centre data set. Of the 805 COVID-19 patients collected from a single centre, 649 were used for training and 156 were used for internal validation (D1). Additionally, three external validation sets were obtained from 7 cohorts: 1138 patients with COVID-19 (D2), and 233 patients with influenza and novel influenza (D3). A hybrid model, referred to as Hybrid-DDM, was constructed by combining two deep learning models and a machine learning model. Across datasets D1, D2, and D3, the Hybrid-DDM exhibited significantly improved performance compared to the baseline model. The areas under the receiver operating curves (AUCs) were 0.830 versus 0.767 (p = 0.036) in D1, 0.801 versus 0.753 (p < 0.001) in D2, and 0.774 versus 0.668 (p < 0.001) in D3. Pineapples are an important agricultural economic crop in Taiwan. Considerable human resources are required to protect pineapples from excessive solar radiation, which could otherwise lead to overheating and subsequent deterioration. Note that simple covering all of the fruit with a paper bag is not a viable solution, due to the fact that it makes it impossible to determine whether the fruit is ripe. This paper proposes a system by which to automate the detection of ripe pineapples. The proposed deep learning architecture enables detection regardless of lighting conditions, achieving accuracy of more than 99.27% with error of less than 2% at distances of 300 ~ 800 mm. This research introduces a new combined modelling approach for mapping soil salinity in the Minab plain in southern Iran. This study assessed the uncertainty (with 95% confidence limits) and interpretability of two deep learning (DL) models (deep boltzmann machine-DBM) and a one dimensional convolutional neural networks (1DCNN)-long short-term memory (LSTM) hybrid model (1DCNN-LSTM) for mapping soil salinity by applying DeepQuantreg and game theory (Shapely Additive exPlanations (SHAP) and permutation feature importance measure (PFIM)), respectively. Based on stepwise forward regression (SFR)-a technique for controlling factor selection, 18 of 47 potential controls were selected as effective factors. Inventory maps of soil salinity were generated based on 476 surface soil samples collected for measuring electrical conductivity (ECe). Based on Taylor diagrams, both DL models performed well (RMSE &lt; 20%), but the 1DCNN-LSTM hybrid model performed slightly better than the DBM model. The uncertainty range associated with the ECe values predicted by both models estimated using DeepQuantilreg were similar (0-25 dS/m for the 1DCNN-LSTM hybrid model and 2-27 dS/m for DBM model). Based on the SFR and PFIM (permutation feature importance measure)-a measure in game theory, four controls (evaporation, sand content, precipitation and vertical distance to channel) were selected as the most important factors for soil salinity in the study area. The results of SHAP (Shapely Additive exPlanations)-the second measure used in game theory-suggested that five factors (evaporation, vertical distance to channel, sand content, cation exchange capacity (CEC) and digital elevation model (DEM)) have the strongest impact on model outputs. Aiming at the problems of insufficient extraction of asynchronous motor fault features by traditional deep learning algorithms and poor diagnosis of asynchronous motor faults in robust noise environments, this paper proposes an end-to-end fault diagnosis method for asynchronous motors based on IInception-CBAM-IBiGRU. The method first uses a signal-to-grayscale image conversion method to convert one-dimensional vibration signals into two-dimensional images and initially extracts shallow features through two-dimensional convolution; then the Improved Inception (IInception) module is used as a residual block to learning features at different scales with a residual structure, and extracts its important feature information through the Convolutional Block Attention Module (CBAM) to extract important feature information and adjust the weight parameters; then the feature information is input to the Improved Bi-directional Gate Recurrent Unit (IBiGRU) to extract its timing features further; finally, the fault identification is achieved by the SoftMax function. The primary hyperparameters in the model are optimized by the Weighted Mean Of Vectors Algorithm (INFO). The experimental results show that the method is effective in fault diagnosis of asynchronous motors, with an accuracy rate close to 100%, and can still maintain a high accuracy rate under the condition of low noise ratio, with good robustness and generalization ability. This paper aims to propose a table tennis target detection (TD) method based on deep learning (DL) and multi-scale feature fusion (MFF) to improve the detection accuracy of the ball in table tennis competition, optimize the training process of athletes, and improve the technical level. In this paper, DL technology is used to improve the accuracy of table tennis TD through MFF guidance. Initially, based on the FAST Region-based Convolutional Neural Network (FAST R-CNN), the TD is carried out in the table tennis match. Then, through the method of MFF guidance, different levels of feature information are fused, which improves the accuracy of TD. Through the experimental verification on the test set, it is found that the mean Average Precision (mAP) value of the target detection algorithm (TDA) proposed here reaches 87.3%, which is obviously superior to other TDAs and has higher robustness. With the advancement of society, ensuring the safety of personnel involved in municipal construction projects, particularly in the context of pandemic control measures, has become a matter of utmost importance. This paper introduces a security measure for municipal engineering, combining deep learning with object detection technology. It proposes a lightweight artificial intelligence (AI) detection method capable of simultaneously identifying individuals wearing masks and safety helmets. The method primarily incorporates the ShuffleNetv2 feature extraction mechanism within the framework of the YOLOv5s network to reduce computational overhead. Additionally, it employs the ECA attention mechanism and optimized loss functions to generate feature maps with more comprehensive information, thereby enhancing the precision of target detection. Experimental results indicate that this algorithm improves the mean average precision (mAP) value by 4.3%. Furthermore, it reduces parameter and computational loads by 54.8% and 53.8%, respectively, effectively striking a balance between lightweight operation and precision. Cerebral microhemorrhages (CMHs) are associated with cerebrovascular disease, cognitive impairment, and normal aging. One method to study CMHs is to analyze histological sections (5-40 μm) stained with Prussian blue. Currently, users manually and subjectively identify and quantify Prussian blue-stained regions of interest, which is prone to inter-individual variability and can lead to significant delays in data analysis. To improve this labor-intensive process, we developed and compared three digital pathology approaches to identify and quantify CMHs from Prussian blue-stained brain sections: (1) ratiometric analysis of RGB pixel values, (2) phasor analysis of RGB images, and (3) deep learning using a mask region-based convolutional neural network. We applied these approaches to a preclinical mouse model of inflammation-induced CMHs. One-hundred CMHs were imaged using a 20 × objective and RGB color camera. To determine the ground truth, four users independently annotated Prussian blue-labeled CMHs. The deep learning and ratiometric approaches performed better than the phasor analysis approach compared to the ground truth. The deep learning approach had the most precision of the three methods. The ratiometric approach has the most versatility and maintained accuracy, albeit with less precision. Our data suggest that implementing these methods to analyze CMH images can drastically increase the processing speed while maintaining precision and accuracy.

With a significant number of mechanical products approaching the retirement phase, the batch recycling of discarded mechanical parts necessitates a preliminary assessment of their surface condition. However, the presence of surface rust poses a challenge to defect identification. Therefore, this paper proposes a method for detecting heavily rusted surface defects based on an improved YOLOv8n network. In the Backbone, the C2f-DBB module of re-parameterized deep feature extraction was introduced, and the attention module was designed to improve the accuracy of information extraction. In the Neck part, a Bi-Afpn multiscale feature fusion strategy is designed to facilitate information exchange between features at different scales. Finally, Focal-CIoU is employed as the bounding box loss function to enhance the network's localization performance and accuracy for defects. Experimentally, it is proved that the improved network in this paper improves the Recall, Precision, and mAP0.5 by 1.2%, 2.1%, and 1.9%, respectively, on the original basis, which is better than other network models. When traditional EEG signals are collected based on the Nyquist theorem, long-time recordings of EEG signals will produce a large amount of data. At the same time, limited bandwidth, end-to-end delay, and memory space will bring great pressure on the effective transmission of data. The birth of compressed sensing alleviates this transmission pressure. However, using an iterative compressed sensing reconstruction algorithm for EEG signal reconstruction faces complex calculation problems and slow data processing speed, limiting the application of compressed sensing in EEG signal rapid monitoring systems. As such, this paper presents a non-iterative and fast algorithm for reconstructing EEG signals using compressed sensing and deep learning techniques. This algorithm uses the improved residual network model, extracts the feature information of the EEG signal by one-dimensional dilated convolution, directly learns the nonlinear mapping relationship between the measured value and the original signal, and can quickly and accurately reconstruct the EEG signal. The method proposed in this paper has been verified by simulation on the open BCI contest dataset. Overall, it is proved that the proposed method has higher reconstruction accuracy and faster reconstruction speed than the traditional CS reconstruction algorithm and the existing deep learning reconstruction algorithm. Deep learning (DL) is a widely applied mathematical modeling technique. Classically, DL models utilize large volumes of training data, which are not available in many healthcare contexts. For patients with brain tumors, non-invasive diagnosis would represent a substantial clinical advance, potentially sparing patients from the risks associated with surgical intervention on the brain. Such an approach will depend upon highly accurate models built using the limited datasets that are available. Herein, we present a novel genetic algorithm (GA) that identifies optimal architecture parameters using feature embeddings from state-of-the-art image classification networks to identify the pediatric brain tumor, adamantinomatous craniopharyngioma (ACP). We optimized classification models for preoperative Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), and combined CT and MRI datasets with demonstrated test accuracies of 85.3%, 83.3%, and 87.8%, respectively. Notably, our GA improved baseline model performance by up to 38%. This work advances DL and its applications within healthcare by identifying optimized networks in small-scale data contexts. The proposed system is easily implementable and scalable for non-invasive computer-aided diagnosis, even for uncommon diseases.

Historical documents contain essential information about the past, including places, people, or events. Many of these valuable cultural artifacts cannot be further examined due to aging or external influences, as they are too fragile to be opened or turned over, so their rich contents remain hidden. Terahertz (THz) imaging is a nondestructive 3D imaging technique that can be used to reveal the hidden contents without damaging the documents. As noise or imaging artifacts are predominantly present in reconstructed images processed by standard THz reconstruction algorithms, this work intends to improve THz image quality with deep learning. To overcome the data scarcity problem in training a supervised deep learning model, an unsupervised deep learning network (CycleGAN) is first applied to generate paired noisy THz images from clean images (clean images are generated by a handwriting generator). With such synthetic noisy-to-clean paired images, a supervised deep learning model using Pix2pixGAN is trained, which is effective to enhance real noisy THz images. After Pix2pixGAN denoising, 99% characters written on one-side of the Xuan paper can be clearly recognized, while 61% characters written on one-side of the standard paper are sufficiently recognized. The average perceptual indices of Pix2pixGAN processed images are 16.83, which is very close to the average perceptual index 16.19 of clean handwriting images. The mining of open pit mines is widespread in China, and there are many cases of landslide accidents. Therefore, the problem of slope stability is highlighted. The stability of the slope is a factor that directly affects the mining efficiency and the safety of the entire mining process. According to the statistics, there is a 15 percent chance of finding landslide risk in China's large-scale mines. And due to the expansion of the mining scale of the enterprise, the problem of slope stability has become increasingly obvious, which has become a major subject in the study of open-pit mine engineering. In order to better predict the slope stability coefficient, this study takes a mine in China as a case to deeply discuss the accuracy of different algorithms in the stability calculation, and then uses a deep learning algorithm to study the stability under rainfall conditions. The change of the coefficient and the change of the stability coefficient before and after the slope treatment are experimentally studied with the displacement of the monitoring point. The result shows that the safety coefficient calculated by the algorithm in this paper is about 7% lower than that of the traditional algorithm. In the slope stability analysis before treatment, the safety factor calculated by the algorithm in this paper is 1.086, and the algorithm in this paper is closer to reality. In the stability analysis of the slope after treatment, the safety factor calculated by the algorithm in this paper is 1.227, and the stability factor meets the requirements of the specification. This paper proposes a forward layer-wise learning algorithm for CNNs in classification problems. The algorithm utilizes the Separation Index (SI) as a supervised complexity measure to evaluate and train each layer in a forward manner. The proposed method explains that gradually increasing the SI through layers reduces the input data's uncertainties and disturbances, achieving a better feature space representation. Hence, by approximating the SI with a variant of local triplet loss at each layer, a gradient-based learning algorithm is suggested to maximize it. Inspired by the NGRAD (Neural Gradient Representation by Activity Differences) hypothesis, the proposed algorithm operates in a forward manner without explicit error information from the last layer. The algorithm's performance is evaluated on image classification tasks using VGG16, VGG19, AlexNet, and LeNet architectures with CIFAR-10, CIFAR-100, Raabin-WBC, and Fashion-MNIST datasets. Additionally, the experiments are applied to text classification tasks using the DBPedia and AG's News datasets. Programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression is currently used in the clinic to assess eligibility for immune-checkpoint inhibitors via the tumor proportion score (TPS), but its efficacy is limited by high interobserver variability. Multiple papers have presented systems for the automatic quantification of TPS, but none report on the task of determining cell-level PD-L1 expression and often reserve their evaluation to a single PD-L1 monoclonal antibody or clinical center. In this paper, we report on a deep learning algorithm for detecting PD-L1 negative and positive tumor cells at a cellular level and evaluate it on a cell-level reference standard established by six readers on a multi-centric, multi PD-L1 assay dataset. This reference standard also provides for the first time a benchmark for computer vision algorithms. In addition, in line with other papers, we also evaluate our algorithm at slide-level by measuring the agreement between the algorithm and six pathologists on TPS quantification. We find a moderately low interobserver agreement at cell-level level (mean reader-reader F1 score = 0.68) which our algorithm sits slightly under (mean reader-AI F1 score = 0.55), especially for cases from the clinical center not included in the training set. Despite this, we find good AI-pathologist agreement on quantifying TPS compared to the interobserver agreement (mean reader-reader Cohen's kappa = 0.54, 95% CI 0.26–0.81, mean reader-AI kappa = 0.49, 95% CI 0.27—0.72). In conclusion, our deep learning algorithm demonstrates promise in detecting PD-L1 expression at a cellular level and exhibits favorable agreement with pathologists in quantifying the tumor proportion score (TPS). Given that defect detection in weld X-ray images is a critical aspect of pressure vessel manufacturing and inspection, accurate differentiation of the type, distribution, number, and area of defects in the images serves as the foundation for judging weld quality, and the segmentation method of defects in digital X-ray images is the core technology for differentiating defects. Based on the publicly available weld seam dataset GDX-ray, this paper proposes a complete technique for fault segmentation in X-ray pictures of pressure vessel welds. The key works are as follows: (1) To address the problem of a lack of defect samples and imbalanced distribution inside GDX-ray, a DA-DCGAN based on a two-channel attention mechanism is devised to increase sample data. (2) A convolutional block attention mechanism is incorporated into the coding layer to boost the accuracy of small-scale defect identification. The proposed MAU-Net defect semantic segmentation network uses multi-scale even convolution to enhance large-scale features. The proposed method can mask electrostatic interference and non-defect-class parts in the actual weld X-ray images, achieve an average segmentation accuracy of 84.75% for the GDX-ray dataset, segment and accurately rate the valid defects with a correct rating rate of 95%, and thus realize practical value in engineering. In this study, the deep learning algorithm of Convolutional Neural Network long short-term memory (CNN–LSTM) is used to classify various jewelry rocks such as agate, turquoise, calcites, and azure from various historical periods and styles related to Shahr-e Sokhteh. Here, the CNN–LSTM architecture includes utilizing CNN layers for the extraction of features from input data mixed with LSTMs for supporting sequence forecasting. It should be mentioned that interpretable deep learning-assisted laser induced breakdown spectroscopy helped achieve excellent performance. For the first time, this paper interprets the Convolutional LSTM effectiveness layer by layer in self-adaptively obtaining LIBS features and the quantitative data of major chemical elements in jewelry rocks. Moreover, Lasso method is applied on data as a factor for investigation of interoperability. The results demonstrated that LIBS can be essentially combined with a deep learning algorithm for the classification of different jewelry songs. The triage process in emergency departments (EDs) relies on the subjective assessment of medical practitioners, making it unreliable in certain aspects. There is a need for a more accurate and objective algorithm to determine the urgency of patients. This paper explores the application of advanced data-synthesis algorithms, machine learning (ML) algorithms, and ensemble models to predict patient mortality. Patients predicted to be at risk of mortality are in a highly critical condition, signifying an urgent need for immediate medical intervention. This paper aims to determine the most effective method for predicting mortality by enhancing the F1 score while maintaining high area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) score. This study used a dataset of 7325 patients who visited the Yonsei Severance Hospital's ED, located in Seoul, South Korea. The patients were divided into two groups: patients who deceased in the ED and patients who didn't. Various data-synthesis techniques, such as SMOTE, ADASYN, CTGAN, TVAE, CopulaGAN, and Gaussian Copula, were deployed to generate synthetic patient data. Twenty two ML models were then utilized, including tree-based algorithms like Decision tree, AdaBoost, LightGBM, CatBoost, XGBoost, NGBoost, TabNet, which are deep neural network algorithms, and statistical algorithms such as Support Vector Machine, Logistic Regression, Random Forest, k-nearest neighbors, and Gaussian Naive Bayes, as well as Ensemble Models which use the results from the ML models. Based on 21 patient information features used in the pandemic influenza triage algorithm (PITA), the models explained previously were applied to aim for the prediction of patient mortality. In evaluating ML algorithms using an imbalanced medical dataset, conventional metrics like accuracy scores or AUC can be misleading. This paper emphasizes the importance of using the F1 score as the primary performance measure, focusing on recall and specificity in detecting patient mortality. The highest-ranked model for predicting mortality utilized the Gaussian Copula data-synthesis technique and the CatBoost classifier, achieving an AUC of 0.9731 and an F1 score of 0.7059. Natural hazard named entity recognition is a technique used to recognize natural hazard entities from a large number of texts. The method of natural hazard named entity recognition can facilitate acquisition of natural hazards information and provide reference for natural hazard mitigation. The method of named entity recognition has many challenges, such as fast change, multiple types and various forms of named entities. This can introduce difficulties in research of natural hazard named entity recognition. To address the above problem, this paper constructed a natural disaster annotated corpus for training and evaluation model, and selected and compared several deep learning methods based on word vector features. A deep learning method for natural hazard named entity recognition can automatically mine text features and reduce the dependence on manual rules. This paper compares and analyzes the deep learning models from three aspects: pretraining, feature extraction and decoding. A natural hazard named entity recognition method based on deep learning is proposed, namely XLNet-BiLSTM-CRF model. Finally, the research hotspots of natural hazards papers in the past 10 years were obtained through this model. After training, the precision of the XLNet-BilSTM-CRF model is 92.80%, the recall rate is 91.74%, and the F1-score is 92.27%. In robot-assisted surgery, in which haptics should be absent, surgeons experience haptics-like sensations as "pseudo-haptic feedback". As surgeons who routinely perform robot-assisted laparoscopic surgery, we wondered if we could make these "pseudo-haptics" explicit to surgeons. Therefore, we created a simulation model that estimates manipulation forces using only visual images in surgery. This study aimed to achieve vision-based estimations of the magnitude of forces during forceps manipulation of organs. We also attempted to detect over-force, exceeding the threshold of safe manipulation. We created a sensor forceps that can detect precise pressure at the tips with three vectors. Using an endoscopic system that is used in actual surgery, images of the manipulation of excised pig kidneys were recorded with synchronized force data. A force estimation model was then created using deep learning. Effective detection of over-force was achieved if the region of the visual images was restricted by the region of interest around the tips of the forceps. Heart disease is a major global cause of mortality and a major public health problem for a large number of individuals. A major issue raised by regular clinical data analysis is the recognition of cardiovascular illnesses, including heart attacks and coronary artery disease, even though early identification of heart disease can save many lives. Accurate forecasting and decision assistance may be achieved in an effective manner with machine learning (ML). Big Data, or the vast amounts of data generated by the health sector, may assist models used to make diagnostic choices by revealing hidden information or intricate patterns. This paper uses a hybrid deep learning algorithm to describe a large data analysis and visualization approach for heart disease detection. The proposed approach is intended for use with big data systems, such as Apache Hadoop. An extensive medical data collection is first subjected to an improved k-means clustering (IKC) method to remove outliers, and the remaining class distribution is then balanced using the synthetic minority over-sampling technique (SMOTE). The next step is to forecast the disease using a bio-inspired hybrid mutation-based swarm intelligence (HMSI) with an attention-based gated recurrent unit network (AttGRU) model after recursive feature elimination (RFE) has determined which features are most important. In our implementation, we compare four machine learning algorithms: SAE + ANN (sparse autoencoder + artificial neural network), LR (logistic regression), KNN (K-nearest neighbour), and naïve Bayes. The vigorous development of the construction industry has also brought unprecedented safety risks. The wearing of safety helmets at the construction site can effectively reduce casualties. As a result, this paper suggests employing a deep learning-based approach for the real-time detection of safety helmet usage among construction workers. Based on the selected YOLOv5s network through experiments, this paper analyzes its training results. Considering its poor detection effect on small objects and occluded objects. Therefore, multiple attention mechanisms are used to improve the YOLOv5s network, the feature pyramid network is improved into a BiFPN bidirectional feature pyramid network, and the post-processing method NMS is improved into Soft-NMS. Based on the above-improved method, the loss function is improved to enhance the convergence speed of the model and improve the detection speed. We propose a network model called BiFEL-YOLOv5s, which combines the BiFPN network and Focal-EIoU Loss to improve YOLOv5s. The average precision of the model is increased by 0.9% the recall rate is increased by 2.8%, and the detection speed of the model does not decrease too much. Colorectal cancer (CRC) exhibits a significant death rate that consistently impacts human lives worldwide. Histopathological examination is the standard method for CRC diagnosis. However, it is complicated, time-consuming, and subjective. Computer-aided diagnostic (CAD) systems using digital pathology can help pathologists diagnose CRC faster and more accurately than manual histopathology examinations. Deep learning algorithms especially convolutional neural networks (CNNs) are advocated for diagnosis of CRC. Nevertheless, most previous CAD systems obtained features from one CNN, these features are of huge dimension. Also, they relied on spatial information only to achieve classification. In this paper, a CAD system is proposed called "Color-CADx" for CRC recognition. Different CNNs namely ResNet50, DenseNet201, and AlexNet are used for end-to-end classification at different training-testing ratios. Moreover, features are extracted from these CNNs and reduced using discrete cosine transform (DCT). DCT is also utilized to acquire spectral representation. Afterward, it is used to further select a reduced set of deep features. Furthermore, DCT coefficients obtained in the previous step are concatenated and the analysis of variance (ANOVA) feature selection approach is applied to choose significant features. Finally, machine learning classifiers are employed for CRC classification. Two publicly available datasets were investigated which are the NCT-CRC-HE-100 K dataset and the Kather&#95;texture&#95;2016&#95;image&#95;tiles dataset. The highest achieved accuracy reached 99.3% for the NCT-CRC-HE-100 K dataset and 96.8% for the Kather&#95;texture&#95;2016&#95;image&#95;tiles dataset. DCT and ANOVA have successfully lowered feature dimensionality thus reducing complexity. Identifying and recognizing the food on the basis of its eating sounds is a challenging task, as it plays an important role in avoiding allergic foods, providing dietary preferences to people who are restricted to a particular diet, showcasing its cultural significance, etc. In this research paper, the aim is to design a novel methodology that helps to identify food items by analyzing their eating sounds using various deep learning models. To achieve this objective, a system has been proposed that extracts meaningful features from food-eating sounds with the help of signal processing techniques and deep learning models for classifying them into their respective food classes. Initially, 1200 audio files for 20 food items labeled have been collected and visualized to find relationships between the sound files of different food items. Later, to extract meaningful features, various techniques such as spectrograms, spectral rolloff, spectral bandwidth, and mel-frequency cepstral coefficients are used for the cleaning of audio files as well as to capture the unique characteristics of different food items. In the next phase, various deep learning models like GRU, LSTM, InceptionResNetV2, and the customized CNN model have been trained to learn spectral and temporal patterns in audio signals. Besides this, the models have also been hybridized i.e. Bidirectional LSTM + GRU and RNN + Bidirectional LSTM, and RNN + Bidirectional GRU to analyze their performance for the same labeled data in order to associate particular patterns of sound with their corresponding class of food item. During evaluation, the highest accuracy, precision,F1 score, and recall have been obtained by GRU with 99.28%, Bidirectional LSTM + GRU with 97.7% as well as 97.3%, and RNN + Bidirectional LSTM with 97.45%, respectively. Parasitic organisms pose a major global health threat, mainly in regions that lack advanced medical facilities. Early and accurate detection of parasitic organisms is vital to saving lives. Deep learning models have uplifted the medical sector by providing promising results in diagnosing, detecting, and classifying diseases. This paper explores the role of deep learning techniques in detecting and classifying various parasitic organisms. The research works on a dataset consisting of 34,298 samples of parasites such as Toxoplasma Gondii, Trypanosome, Plasmodium, Leishmania, Babesia, and Trichomonad along with host cells like red blood cells and white blood cells. These images are initially converted from RGB to grayscale followed by the computation of morphological features such as perimeter, height, area, and width. Later, Otsu thresholding and watershed techniques are applied to differentiate foreground from background and create markers on the images for the identification of regions of interest. Deep transfer learning models such as VGG19, InceptionV3, ResNet50V2, ResNet152V2, EfficientNetB3, EfficientNetB0, MobileNetV2, Xception, DenseNet169, and a hybrid model, InceptionResNetV2, are employed. The parameters of these models are fine-tuned using three optimizers: SGD, RMSprop, and Adam. Experimental results reveal that when RMSprop is applied, VGG19, InceptionV3, and EfficientNetB0 achieve the highest accuracy of 99.1% with a loss of 0.09. Similarly, using the SGD optimizer, InceptionV3 performs exceptionally well, achieving the highest accuracy of 99.91% with a loss of 0.98. Finally, applying the Adam optimizer, InceptionResNetV2 excels, achieving the highest accuracy of 99.96% with a loss of 0.13, outperforming other optimizers. This paper applies thermal imaging technology to gearbox fault diagnosis. The temperature field calculation model is established to obtain the temperature field images of various faults. A deep learning network model combining transfer learning of convolutional neural network with supervised training and unsupervised training of deep belief network is proposed. The model requires one-fifth of the training time of the convolutional neural network model. The data set used for training the deep learning network model is expanded by using the temperature field simulation image of the gearbox. The results show that the network model has over 97% accuracy for the diagnosis of simulation faults. Self-piercing riveting (SPR) has been widely used in automobile body jointing. However, the riveting process is prone to various forming quality failures, such as empty riveting, repeated riveting, substrate cracking, and other riveting defects. This paper combines deep learning algorithms to achieve non-contact monitoring of SPR forming quality. And a lightweight convolutional neural network with higher accuracy and less computational effort is designed. The ablation and comparative experiments results show that the lightweight convolutional neural network proposed in this paper achieves improved accuracy and reduced computational complexity. Compared with the original algorithm, the algorithm's accuracy in this paper is increased by 4.5 % , and the recall is increased by 1.4 % . In addition, the amount of redundant parameters is reduced by 86.5 % , and the amount of computation is reduced by 47.33 % . This method can effectively overcome the limitations of low efficiency, high work intensity, and easy leakage of manual visual inspection methods and provide a more efficient solution for monitoring the quality of SPR forming quality. In this paper, a novel technique for detecting female breast anomalous tissues is presented and validated through numerical simulations. The technique, to a high degree, resembles X-ray mammography; however, instead of using X-rays for obtaining images of the breast, low-frequency electromagnetic fields are leveraged. To capture breast impressions, a metasurface, which can be thought of as analogous to X-rays film, has been employed. To achieve deep and sufficient penetration within the breast tissues, the source of excitation is a simple narrow-band dipole antenna operating at 200 MHz. The metasurface is designed to operate at the same frequency. The detection mechanism is based on comparing the impressions obtained from the breast under examination to the reference case (healthy breasts) using machine learning techniques. Using this system, not only would it be possible to detect tumors (benign or malignant), but one can also determine the location and size of the tumors. Distributed learning, as the most popular solution for training large-scale data for deep learning, consists of multiple participants collaborating on data training tasks. However, the malicious behavior of some during the training process, like Byzantine participants who would interrupt or control the learning process, will trigger the crisis of data security. Although recent existing defense mechanisms use the variability of Byzantine node gradients to clear Byzantine values, it is still unable to identify and then clear the delicate disturbance/attack. To address this critical issue, we propose an algorithm named consensus aggregation in this paper. This algorithm allows computational nodes to use the information of verification nodes to verify the effectiveness of the gradient in the perturbation attack, reaching a consensus based on the effective verification of the gradient. Then the server node uses the gradient as the valid gradient for gradient aggregation calculation through the consensus reached by other computing nodes. On the MNIST and CIFAR10 datasets, when faced with Drift attacks, the proposed algorithm outperforms common existing aggregation algorithms (Krum, Trimmed Mean, Bulyan), with accuracies of 93.3%, 94.06% (MNIST dataset), and 48.66%, 51.55% (CIFAR10 dataset), respectively. This is an improvement of 3.0%, 3.8% (MNIST dataset), and 19.0%, 26.1% (CIFAR10 dataset) over the current state-of-the-art methods, and successfully defended against other attack methods. Road manhole covers are crucial components of urban infrastructure; however, inadequate maintenance or poor marking can pose safety risks to vehicular traffic. This paper presents a method for detecting road manhole covers using a stereo depth camera and the MGB-YOLO model. We curated a robust image dataset and performed image enhancement and annotation. The MGB-YOLO model was developed by optimizing the YOLOv5s network with MobileNet-V3, Global Attention Mechanism (GAM), and BottleneckCSP, striking a balance between detection accuracy and model efficiency. Our method achieved an impressive accuracy of 96.6%, surpassing the performance of Faster RCNN, SSD, YOLOv5s, YOLOv7 and YOLOv8s models with an increased mean average precision (mAP) of 15.6%, 6.9%, 0.7%, 0.5% and 0.5%, respectively. Additionally, we have reduced the model's size and the number of parameters, making it highly suitable for deployment on in-vehicle embedded devices. These results underscore the effectiveness of our approach in detecting road manhole covers, offering valuable insights for vehicle-based manhole cover detection and contributing to the reduction of accidents and enhanced driving comfort. To assist ophthalmologists in diagnosing retinal abnormalities, Computer Aided Diagnosis has played a significant role. In this paper, a particular Convolutional Neural Network based on Wavelet Scattering Transform (WST) is used to detect one to four retinal abnormalities from Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) images. Predefined wavelet filters in this network decrease the computation complexity and processing time compared to deep learning methods. We use two layers of the WST network to obtain a direct and efficient model. WST generates a sparse representation of the images which is translation-invariant and stable concerning local deformations. Next, a Principal Component Analysis classifies the extracted features. We evaluate the model using four publicly available datasets to have a comprehensive comparison with the literature. The accuracies of classifying the OCT images of the OCTID dataset into two and five classes were 100 % and 82.5 % , respectively. We achieved an accuracy of 96.6 % in detecting Diabetic Macular Edema from Normal ones using the TOPCON device-based dataset. Heidelberg and Duke datasets contain DME, Age-related Macular Degeneration, and Normal classes, in which we achieved accuracy of 97.1 % and 94.4 % , respectively. A comparison of our results with the state-of-the-art models shows that our model outperforms these models for some assessments or achieves nearly the best results reported so far while having a much smaller computational complexity. Epidemic spatial–temporal risk analysis, e.g., infectious number forecasting, is a mainstream task in the multivariate time series research field, which plays a crucial role in the public health management process. With the rise of deep learning methods, many studies have focused on the epidemic prediction problem. However, recent primary prediction techniques face two challenges: the overcomplicated model and unsatisfactory interpretability. Therefore, this paper proposes an Interpretable Spatial IDentity (ISID) neural network to predict infectious numbers at the regional weekly level, which employs a light model structure and provides post-hoc explanations. First, this paper streamlines the classical spatio-temporal identity model (STID) and retains the optional spatial identity matrix for learning the contagion relationship between regions. Second, the well-known SHapley Additive explanations (SHAP) method was adopted to interpret how the ISID model predicts with multivariate sliding-window time series input data. The prediction accuracy of ISID is compared with several models in the experimental study, and the results show that the proposed ISID model achieves satisfactory epidemic prediction performance. Furthermore, the SHAP result demonstrates that the ISID pays particular attention to the most proximate and remote data in the input sequence (typically 20 steps long) while paying little attention to the intermediate steps. In this paper, we present a channel estimation approach based on deep learning to solve the problem that the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system channel estimation algorithm cannot accurately obtain the channel state information in the complex environment of the mine, resulting in system performance degradation. First, LS channel estimation matrix is considered as a low-resolution image and the actual channel state information is considered as a high-resolution image. Then the optimization of the LS channel estimation matrix is achieved by the FSRCNN image super-resolution algorithm. We validate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm by conducting experiments in different channel environments, different number of pilots, and mismatched signal-to-noise ratio scenarios. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme is much better than the traditional LS channel estimation method and the DFT-LS channel estimation method, and the accuracy of the proposed scheme approaches that of the MMSE channel estimation method when the number of pilots is low. These enormous contents with the right exploit and research leads to valuable discoveries. In this study, a deep framework of learning accurate detection of women's depression is proposed. It is beneficially guided by social media content of individual posts and tweets and an essential support from psycho-linguistic for providing the indicator depression signs vocabulary that creates the embedding words necessary for building the applied approach. The presented model is validated using dual datasets extracted from Twitter: the first dataset is general data formed by 700 women from different countries; the second contains only 80 women from KSA. A third benchmark dataset CLPsych 2015 is used for comparative analysis purposes. In the healthcare sector, the health status and biological, and physical activity of the patient are monitored among different sensors that collect the required information about these activities using Wireless body area network (WBAN) architecture. Sensor-based human activity recognition (HAR), which offers remarkable qualities of ease and privacy, has drawn increasing attention from researchers with the growth of the Internet of Things (IoT) and wearable technology. Deep learning has the ability to extract high-dimensional information automatically, making end-to-end learning. The most significant obstacles to computer vision, particularly convolutional neural networks (CNNs), are the effect of the environment background, camera shielding, and other variables. This paper aims to propose and develop a new HAR system in WBAN dependence on the Gramian angular field (GAF) and DenseNet. Once the necessary signals are obtained, the input signals undergo pre-processing through artifact removal and median filtering. In the initial stage, the time series data captured by the sensors undergoes a conversion process, transforming it into 2-dimensional images by using the GAF algorithm. Then, DenseNet automatically makes the processes and integrates the data collected from diverse sensors. Heart diseases are leading to death across the globe. Exact detection and treatment for heart disease in its early stages could potentially save lives. Electrocardiogram (ECG) is one of the tests that take measures of heartbeat fluctuations. The deviation in the signals from the normal sinus rhythm and different variations can help detect various heart conditions. This paper presents a novel approach to cardiac disease detection using an automated Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) system. Leveraging the Scale-Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT) for unique ECG signal image feature extraction, our model classifies signals into three categories: Arrhythmia (ARR), Congestive Heart Failure (CHF), and Normal Sinus Rhythm (NSR). The proposed model has been evaluated using 96 Arrhythmia, 30 CHF, and 36 NSR ECG signals, resulting in a total of 162 images for classification. Our proposed model achieved 99.78% accuracy and an F1 score of 99.78%, which is among one of the highest in the models which were recorded to date with this dataset. Along with the SIFT, we also used HOG and SURF techniques individually and applied the CNN model which achieved 99.45% and 78% accuracy respectively which proved that the SIFT-CNN model is a well-trained and performed model. Notably, our approach introduces significant novelty by combining SIFT with a custom CNN model, enhancing classification accuracy and offering a fresh perspective on cardiac arrhythmia detection. Pneumonia is a highly lethal disease, and research on its treatment and early screening tools has received extensive attention from researchers. Due to the maturity and cost reduction of chest X-ray technology, and with the development of artificial intelligence technology, pneumonia identification based on deep learning and chest X-ray has attracted attention from all over the world. Although the feature extraction capability of deep learning is strong, existing deep learning object detection frameworks are based on pre-defined anchors, which require a lot of tuning and experience to guarantee their excellent results in the face of new applications or data. To avoid the influence of anchor settings in pneumonia detection, this paper proposes an anchor-free object detection framework and RSNA dataset based on pneumonia detection. First, a data enhancement scheme is used to preprocess the chest X-ray images; second, an anchor-free object detection framework is used for pneumonia detection, which contains a feature pyramid, two-branch detection head, and focal loss. The average precision of 51.5 obtained by Intersection over Union (IoU) calculation shows that the pneumonia detection results obtained in this paper can surpass the existing classical object detection framework, providing an idea for future research and exploration., (© 2024. This paper proposes a denoising method based on an adversarial deep learning approach for the post-processing of multi-channel fetal electrocardiogram (ECG) signals. As it's well known, noise leads to misinterpretations of fetal ECG signals and thus limits the use of fetal electrocardiography for healthcare applications. Therefore, denoising algorithms are essential for the exploitation of non-invasive fetal ECG. The proposed method is based on the combination of three end-to-end trained sub-networks to convert noisy fetal ECG signals into clean signals. The first two sub-networks are linked by skip connections and form a deep convolutional network that downsamples the noisy signals into a latent representation and subsequently upsamples this latent representation to recover clean signals. The third sub-network aims to boost the decoder sub-network to generate realistic clean signals. Experiments carried out on synthetic and real data showed that the proposed method improved by the signal-to-noise (SNR) of fetal ECG signals with input SNR ranging from [Formula: see text] to 0 dB by an average of 20 dB, and improve fetal signal quality by significantly increasing the number of true detected QRS complexes and halving QRS complex detection errors., (© 2023. Mental health monitoring of seafarers is an important part of achieving normal development of the ocean shipping industry. In this paper, a dual subjective–objective testing scheme is proposed to achieve a more effective and intelligent assessment of seafarers' mental health status. Firstly, a new seafarers' mental health test scale (SMHT) is revised based on fuzzy factor analysis and the test data of 283 marine practitioners are analyzed using SPSS v24 software; secondly, this paper proposes an intelligent framework module for immersive subjective emotion extraction based on natural language processing, namely semantic summary extraction (SSE), speech emotion extraction (SEE), using hybrid scoring mechanism to obtain semantic and emotion matching values and assist the seafarer mental health scale to obtain the final correction score. The results showed that the assessment results of the SMHT scale exhibited good reliability (Cronbach's alpha of 0.852 ∈ (0.80 - 0.90) and retest reliability R of 0.873 ∈ (0.85 - 0.90) ) and scale association validity (for SCL-90, ( r = 0.468 - 0.841) > 0.45 ). In addition, the calibration rate of the subject-object dual test method was improved by approximately 12.05% compared to the traditional mental health scale. Finally, the advantages and disadvantages of this solution were compared with mental health testing techniques such as CAT, machine learning, SCL-90, and fMRI, and the method demonstrated more accurate psychological testing results, providing a simple and intelligent solution for standardized psychological testing of seafarers. The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) epidemic has become a worldwide problem that continues to affect people's lives daily, and the early diagnosis of COVID-19 has a critical importance on the treatment of infected patients for medical and healthcare organizations. To detect COVID-19 infections, medical imaging techniques, including computed tomography (CT) scan images and X-ray images, are considered some of the helpful medical tests that healthcare providers carry out. However, in addition to the difficulty of segmenting contaminated areas from CT scan images, these approaches also offer limited accuracy for identifying the virus. Accordingly, this paper addresses the effectiveness of using deep learning (DL) and image processing techniques, which serve to expand the dataset without the need for any augmentation strategies, and it also presents a novel approach for detecting COVID-19 virus infections in lung images, particularly the infection prediction issue. In our proposed method, to reveal the infection, the input images are first preprocessed using a threshold then resized to 128 × 128. After that, a density heat map tool is used for coloring the resized lung images. The three channels (red, green, and blue) are then separated from the colored image and are further preprocessed through image inverse and histogram equalization, and are subsequently fed, in independent directions, into three separate U-Nets with the same architecture for segmentation. Finally, the segmentation results are combined and run through a convolution layer one by one to get the detection. Several evaluation metrics using the CT scan dataset were used to measure the performance of the proposed approach in comparison with other state-of-the-art techniques in terms of accuracy, sensitivity, precision, and the dice coefficient. The experimental results of the proposed approach reached 99.71%, 0.83, 0.87, and 0.85, respectively. These results show that coloring the CT scan images dataset and then dividing each image into its RGB image channels can enhance the COVID-19 detection, and it also increases the U-Net power in the segmentation when merging the channel segmentation results. In comparison to other existing segmentation techniques employing bigger 512 × 512 images, this study is one of the few that can rapidly and correctly detect the COVID-19 virus with high accuracy on smaller 128 × 128 images using the metrics of accuracy, sensitivity, precision, and dice coefficient., (© 2023. Infectious keratitis (IK) is a major cause of corneal opacity. IK can be caused by a variety of microorganisms. Typically, fungal ulcers carry the worst prognosis. Fungal cases can be subdivided into filamentous and yeasts, which shows fundamental differences. Delays in diagnosis or initiation of treatment increase the risk of ocular complications. Currently, the diagnosis of IK is mainly based on slit-lamp examination and corneal scrapings. Notably, these diagnostic methods have their drawbacks, including experience-dependency, tissue damage, and time consumption. Artificial intelligence (AI) is designed to mimic and enhance human decision-making. An increasing number of studies have utilized AI in the diagnosis of IK. In this paper, we propose to use AI to diagnose IK (model 1), differentiate between bacterial keratitis and fungal keratitis (model 2), and discriminate the filamentous type from the yeast type of fungal cases (model 3). Overall, 9329 slit-lamp photographs gathered from 977 patients were enrolled in the study. The models exhibited remarkable accuracy, with model 1 achieving 99.3%, model 2 at 84%, and model 3 reaching 77.5%. This paper delves into the specialized domain of human action recognition, focusing on the Identification of Indian classical dance poses, specifically Bharatanatyam. Within the dance context, a "Karana" embodies a synchronized and harmonious movement encompassing body, hands, and feet, as defined by the Natyashastra. The essence of Karana lies in the amalgamation of nritta hasta (hand movements), sthaana (body postures), and chaari (leg movements). Although numerous, Natyashastra codifies 108 karanas, showcased in the intricate stone carvings adorning the Nataraj temples of Chidambaram, where Lord Shiva's association with these movements is depicted. Automating pose identification in Bharatanatyam poses challenges due to the vast array of variations, encompassing hand and body postures, mudras (hand gestures), facial expressions, and head gestures. To simplify this intricate task, this research employs image processing and automation techniques. The proposed methodology comprises four stages: acquisition and pre-processing of images involving skeletonization and Data Augmentation techniques, feature extraction from images, classification of dance poses using a deep learning network-based convolution neural network model (InceptionResNetV2), and visualization of 3D models through mesh creation from point clouds. The use of advanced technologies, such as the MediaPipe library for body key point detection and deep learning networks, streamlines the identification process. Data augmentation, a pivotal step, expands small datasets, enhancing the model's accuracy. The convolution neural network model showcased its effectiveness in accurately recognizing intricate dance movements, paving the way for streamlined analysis and interpretation. This innovative approach not only simplifies the identification of Bharatanatyam poses but also sets a precedent for enhancing accessibility and efficiency for practitioners and researchers in the Indian classical dance. During the manufacturing process of printed circuit boards (PCBs), quality defects can occur, which can affect the performance and reliability of PCBs. Existing deep learning-based PCB defect detection methods are difficult to simultaneously achieve the goals of high detection accuracy, fast detection speed, and small number of parameters. Therefore, this paper proposes a PCB defect detection algorithm based on CDI-YOLO. Firstly, the coordinate attention mechanism (CA) is introduced to improve the backbone and neck network of YOLOv7-tiny, enhance the feature extraction capability of the model, and thus improve the accuracy of model detection. Secondly, DSConv is used to replace part of the common convolution in YOLOv7-tiny to achieve lower computing costs and faster detection speed. Finally, Inner-CIoU is used as the bounding box regression loss function of CDI-YOLO to speed up the bounding box regression process. The experimental results show that the method achieves 98.3% mAP on the PCB defect dataset, the detection speed is 128 frames per second (FPS), the parameters is 5.8 M, and the giga floating-point operations per second (GFLOPs) is 12.6 G.
