Objetivo: este artigo tem como objetivo refletir, a partir do olhar de docentes dos cursos da área da saúde, sobre as estratégias adotadas para a manutenção de suas atividades em meio à pandemia do novo Coronavírus.Métodos: trata-se de um estudo descritivo do tipo relato de experiência.Resultados: tais reflexões abordam os avanços e os desafios relacionados ao desenvolvimento docente, as adaptações nas aulas teóricas, teórico-práticas e nos estágios obrigatórios supervisionados e avaliação do aluno no ensino emergencial remoto.Conclusão: a transição do ensino presencial para o remoto exigiu adaptações e flexibilidade e tais mudanças transformaram o cenário do processo de ensino e aprendizagem, apontando que a tecnologia pode ser ainda mais explorada, tendo perspectivas permanentes.

Learning in groups is commonly used in academic and clinical health professions education (HPE). There is growing recognition that regulation during learning is essential for both the individual learner and group learning. The authors in this article propose a practical approach for understanding, evaluating and providing feedback on regulation during group learning. The approach is informed by previous studies conducted in other areas of education. Three varieties of regulation during group learning are discussed: individual, co-regulation and shared regulation. Each variety of regulation has a focus on three essential activities during group learning: task, social and motivation. Illustrative scenarios are presented to describe how the approach can be practically used in HPE. The specific and additional focus on regulation can enhance current approaches for providing feedback on group learning and the authors discuss recommendations for practical implementation and future research.

Aims: The aim of this study was to investigate the association between personality traits and attitudes toward learning communication skills in undergraduate medical students. The relation between students’ attitudes and personality trait could help us identify those who those who will need more support to develop communication skills, based on their personality traits.Methods: The data was collected data from an intentional and cross-sectional sample composed of 204 students from three Brazilian universities. The students answered questionnaires containing the Communication Skills Attitude Scale (CSAS-BR) and the Big Five Mini-Markers (BFMM) for personality. Data were analyzed using frequency calculations, principal components analysis, and the multiple linear regression model.Results: Seven among 26 items of the original Communication Skills Attitude Scale (CSAS) presented factor loads lower than |0.30| and must be excluded in the CSAS -BR that showed one domain including positive and negative attitudes. The value of Cronbach’s alpha of the 19-item scale was 0.894. The BFMM showed similar dimensional results with five domains with Cronbach’s alpha values of 0.804 for Extroversion, 0.753 for agreeableness, 0.755 for conscientiousness, 0.780 for neuroticism and 0.668 for openness. Traditionally, the assessment of knowledge consists of items, who students answered the same items at the same time, such as test of a specific subject. This assessment may be considered too easy or difficulty by the student. In both cases, the test is likely to be boring by the students and it may provide little information on students’ knowledge level. One way of solving this problem is by creating tailored tests for each student, considering that the next question will be selected based on students’ performance on previous items. This type of test is known as computerized adaptative test. Computerized adaptative test provides both educational and psychometrics advantages compared to the traditional paper-pen testing. Computerized adaptative test requires less items than the traditional test, which in turns will decrease students’ fatigue, and optimizing learning. Furthermore, computerized adaptative test is designed for each student, considering the level of difficulty of each item. This makes the teste more attractive and authentic, since the items will be always aligned with the level of students’ knowledge. Since computerized adaptative test requires both the difficulty of the item and students’ ability, it requires the use of Item Response Theory, which establish a relation between difficulty of the item, students’ ability and the probability of answering a question correctly. Although the implementation of computerized adaptative test is complex, computerized adaptative test has a higher standard in both psychometric point of view and the alignment with modern theories of learning. Because of the high complexity, the implementation of computerized adaptative test is usually in high-stakes test and large scale. However, the new educational paradigm in which requires tailored-made education respecting the pace of each student, the computerized adaptative test will be more used over time.

The use of simulation in health education expands learning opportunities, contributing in a relevant way to the prevention of errors during professional activity. However, there are several challenges to achieving efficient simulated training, including the need to adapt the knowledge produced in different contexts. How should a simulation center be organized? How to take into account the peculiarities of the students in applying the concept of debriefing? Have the evaluation tools been validated for the population in which they are being applied? What elements should be included in simulation-based teaching to improve acquisition and/or retention of skills, knowledge, and attitudes? At what point, in the curriculum, should every possibility of simulated training be introduced in order to make the investment valid? In this editorial, the authors point out the importance of simulation training in healthcare and the need for research aimed at understanding the different situations and providing answers to these questions.

OBJETIVOS: Discutir as principais questões relacionadas ao uso e estruturação de um centro de simulação: logística, aproveitamento dos recursos e alinhamento entre o projeto pedagógico e as atividades simuladas.MÉTODOS: Revisão narrativa da literatura, com busca nas bases de dados Web of Science, PubMed, SciELO e Google Scholar, incluiu artigos publicados até junho de 2017.RESULTADOS: A simulação médica tem sido inserida nos cursos da área de saúde tanto para treinamento quanto para avaliação. Com isso, houve um grande aumento de centros de simulação, os quais envolvem um alto custo tanto para sua infraestrutura geral e especificidades como para manutenção. Muitas vezes os centros de simulação têm uma baixa aceitação docente e discente, tornando-os subutilizados, principalmente quando a metodologia não é implementada adequadamente. O método será mais valorizado quando houver um alinhamento entre o projeto pedagógico e as atividades simuladas. O planejamento de um centro de simulação é uma tarefa árdua que exige estudo prévio, conhecimento sobre o currículo institucional, orçamento e visitas a outros centros já existentes para evitar grandes ajustes posteriores que potencialmente são difíceis e onerosos. Para um melhor aproveitamento logístico, é necessário inicialmente identificar o público alvo e a inserção curricular do método, para definir a quantidade de participantes, tipos de salas e tipos de simuladores. A capacitação docente e o envolvimento multiprofissional são necessários para o bom funcionamento do centro de simulação, sendo que um dos principais motivos para a sua subutilização é a falta de capacitação docente. Além de capacitar os docentes, outras formas para utilizar os centros de simulação estão relacionadas à pesquisa e à parceria entre escolas de medicina e serviços hospitalares. Nessa parceria, as instituições de ensino ganham oportunidades de financiamento e interação com a sociedade, enquanto os hospitais ganham qualificação e aumentam a segurança de seus pacientes. Todas essas questões devem ser consideradas quando o estudo orçamentário é realizado, pois apenas o ambiente físico e os simuladores não são suficientes para o aproveitamento do ambiente simulado.CONCLUSÕES: A integração entre educação, pesquisa e assistência, e o alinhamento com o projeto pedagógico, são de extrema importância para a utilização da simulação na área da saúde, e essenciais para o desenvolvimento de novos treinamentos e conhecimentos.

Aims: To describe the results of translation and back-translation of the TeamSTEPPS® questionnaire to Brazilian Portuguese. This North American questionnaire has been used globally as an useful tool in simulation environment with evaluation intent, aiming at improving patient safety inside health settings, based on effective communication and teamwork.Methods: The adopted methodology consisted in translation and back-translation, with subsequent semantic analysis by experienced professors in health practice evaluations.Results: The translated tool showed a simple format and easy interpretation and understanding when analyzed by authors, professors and translators, and does not generate any kind of discrepancy in their items. In the subsequent analysis by the professors, it was shown that the items were relevant and clear to the Brazilian reality.Conclusions: All the steps of the translation and back-translation process were carried out successfully, finalizing the TeamSTEPPS® teamwork assessment tool in Brazilian Portuguese. The translation process of any tool is complex, and does not end in the linguistic equivalence. Therefore, a second step of this work will be the application of this scale in simulated scenarios focused in teamwork training, to retrace data on psychometric analyses in the educational context and semantic equivalence analyses.
