The textile industry is widely considered as one of the most pollutant-releasing sectors globally. As the world is moving toward sustainability, it is essential to thoroughly assess how a textile product affects the environment. The aim of this study is to investigate the environmental impact of textile manufacturing in Bangladesh using life cycle assessment (LCA) method. A cradle-to-gate LCA was conducted to produce 1000 units of cotton polo shirts following ISO 14040 standards. LCA was also conducted for each final product at every manufacturing stage of cotton polo shirt, including the production of 1000 kg of cotton fibers, 1000 kg of yarn, 1000 kg of grey fabrics, 1000 kg of dyed-finished fabrics, and finally, assembling of 1000 pieces of polo shirts. Inventory analysis revealed that for producing 1000 pieces of polo shirts, 0.12 hector of land, 363.89 kg of cotton fiber, 324.84 kg of yarn, 320.45 kg of knitted fabric, and 299.5 kg of dyed-finished fabrics were required. The study also found that 1550.9 kWh of electricity, 15.47 L of diesel, and 72.54 m 3 of natural gas were needed to produce 1000 pieces of polo shirts. The potential environmental impacts were categorized into 12 different types based on the CML 2001 method and calculated using openLCA 2.0 software. The outcomes of LCA revealed considerable environmental impacts in different categories during manufacturing of cotton polo shirts in Bangladesh. For example, the global warming potential (GWP) associated with the manufacturing of 1000 pieces of polo shirts was 1345.97 kg CO 2 -eq. Among several production stages of polo shirts, the highest contributor of GWP was dyeing section (38.36 %), followed by cotton fiber production (29.32 %) and yarn manufacturing (18.92 %). The obtained data also revealed that for cultivating cotton fibers, manufacturing of yarn and grey fabrics, and finally dyeing-finishing of same quantity fabric (1000 kg), the GWP were 1084.41 kg CO 2 -eq, 783.67 kg CO 2 -eq, 145.88 kg CO 2 -eq, 1723.88 kg CO 2 -eq, 314.94 kg CO 2 -eq, respectively. Metabolic alternation is a typical characteristic of insecticide resistance in insects. However, mechanisms underlying metabolic alternation and how altered metabolism in turn affects insecticide resistance are largely unknown. Here, we report that nicotinamide levels are decreased in the imidacloprid-resistant strain of Nilaparvata lugens, may due to reduced abundance of the symbiotic bacteria Arsenophonus. Importantly, the low levels of nicotinamide promote imidacloprid resistance via metabolic detoxification alternation, including elevations in UDP-glycosyltransferase enzymatic activity and enhancements in UGT386B2-mediated metabolism capability. Mechanistically, nicotinamide suppresses transcriptional regulatory activities of cap 'n' collar isoform C (CncC) and its partner small muscle aponeurosis fibromatosis isoform K (MafK) by scavenging the reactive oxygen species (ROS) and blocking the DNA binding domain of MafK. In imidacloprid-resistant N. lugens, nicotinamide deficiency re-activates the ROS/CncC signaling pathway to provoke UGT386B2 overexpression, thereby promoting imidacloprid detoxification. The threat of heavy metal (HM) pollution looms large over plant growth and human health, with tobacco emerging as a highly vulnerable plant due to its exceptional absorption capacity. The widespread cultivation of tobacco intensifies these concerns, posing increased risks to human health as HMs become more pervasive in tobacco-growing soils globally. The absorption of these metals not only impedes tobacco growth and quality but also amplifies health hazards through smoking. Implementing proactive strategies to minimize HM absorption in tobacco is of paramount importance. Various approaches, encompassing chemical immobilization, transgenic modification, agronomic adjustments, and microbial interventions, have proven effective in curbing HM accumulation and mitigating associated adverse effects. However, a comprehensive review elucidating these control strategies and their mechanisms remains notably absent. This paper seeks to fill this void by examining the deleterious effects of HM exposure on tobacco plants and human health through tobacco consumption. Additionally, it provides a thorough exploration of the mechanisms responsible for reducing HM content in tobacco. The main components of particulate matter (PM) had been reported to change DNA methylation levels. However, the mixed effect of PM and its constituents on DNA methylation and the underlying mechanism in children has not been well characterized. To investigate the association between single or mixture exposures and global DNA methylation or DNA methyltransferases (DNMTs), 273 children were recruited (110 in low-exposed area and 163 in high-exposed area) in China. Serum benzo[a]pyridin-7,8-dihydroglycol-9, 10-epoxide (BPDE)-albumin adduct and urinary metals were determined as exposure markers. The global DNA methylation (% 5mC) and the mRNA expression of DNMT1, and DNMT3A were measured. The linear regression, quantile-based g-computation (QGC), and mediation analyses were performed to investigate the effects of individual and mixture exposure. We found that significantly lower levels of % 5mC (P < 0.001) and the mRNA expression of DNMT3A in high-PM exposed group (P = 0.031). After adjustment for age, gender, BMI z-score, detecting status of urinary cotinine, serum folate, and white blood cells, urinary arsenic (As) was negatively correlated with the % 5mC. One IQR increase in urinary As (19.97 μmol/mol creatinine) was associated with a 11.06 % decrease in % 5mC (P = 0.026). Serum BPDE-albumin adduct and urinary cadmium (Cd) were negatively correlated with the levels of DNMT1 and DNMT3A (P < 0.05). Mixture exposure was negatively associated with expression of DNMT3A in QGC analysis (β: -0.19, P < 0.001). Mixture exposure was significantly associated with decreased % 5mC in the children with non-detected cotinine or normal serum folate (P < 0.05), which the most contributors were PAHs and As. The mediated effect of hypomethylation through DNMT1 or DNMT3A pathway was not observed. Coal gasification slag (CGS) contains variable amounts of heavy metals, which can negatively impact the environment. The mineral composition, element distribution, occurrence, and leaching characteristics of heavy metals in coal gasification coarse slag (CGCS) and coal gasification fine slag (CGFS) are studied to explain the leaching behavior of heavy metals in CGS. The movable components of heavy metals in CGFS (0.06 %-63.03 %) are significantly higher than those in CGCS (0 %-18.72 %). Leaching Environmental Assessment Framework 1313 data shows that heavy metals Zn, Cr, Cd, As, Pb, Ni, and Cu exhibit high leaching rates at low pH conditions, with Zn leaching concentrations as high as 2.11 mg/L at pH 2. Zn, Cr, and As exhibit obvious amphoteric leaching characteristics, and the leaching concentration of As at high pH (1.34 mg/L) even exceeds that at low pH (1.31 mg/L). Except for Cu, all heavy metals in CGS exceed the class III groundwater standard in some cases. The microbial hosts of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) found epiphytically on plant materials could grow and flourish during silage fermentation. This study employed metagenomic analysis and elucidated the occurrence and transmission mechanisms of ARGs and their microbial hosts in whole-crop corn silage inoculated with homofermentative strain Lactiplantibacillus plantarum or heterofermentative strain Lentilactobacillus buchneri ensiled under different temperature (20 and 30 °C). The results revealed that the corn silage was dominated by Lactobacillus, Leuconostoc, Lentilactobacillus, and Latilactobacillus. Both the ensiling temperature and inoculation had greatly modified the silage microbiota. However, regardless of the ensiling temperature, L. buchneri had significantly higher ARGs, while it only exhibited significantly higher mobile genetic elements (MGEs) in low temperature treatments. The microbial community of the corn silage hosted highly diverse form of ARGs, which were primarily MacB, RanA, bcrA, msbA, TetA (58), and TetT and mainly corresponded to macrolides and tetracyclines drug classes. Plasmids were identified as the most abundant MGEs with significant correlation with some high-risk ARGs (tetM, TolC, mdtH, and NorA), and their abundances have been reduced by ensiling process. Furthermore, higher temperature and L. buchneri reduced abundances of high-risk ARGs by modifying their hosts and reduced their transmission in the silage. This study was conducted to examine how colostrum pasteurization affects resistance genes and microbial communities in calf feces. Forty female Holstein calves were randomly assigned to either the control (CON) group, which received unheated colostrum, or the pasteurized colostrum (PAT) group. The calves body weight was measured weekly before morning feeding. Calf starter intake were measured and recorded daily before morning feeding. Samples of colostrum were collected before feeding. Blood was collected on d 1 and 70 before morning feeding. Ten calves were randomly selected from each group (n = 20 calves total) for fecal sampling on d 3, 28, 56 and 70 for subsequent DNA extraction and metagenomic sequencing. Total bacterial counts in the colostrum were markedly higher in the CON group than in the PAT group. Pasteurized colostrum administration substantially reduced the ARO diversity and diminishes the abundance of Enterobacteriaceae, thereby decreasing their contribution to resistance genes. Pasteurization also reduced glucoside hydrolase-66 activity in 3-day-old calves which led to an increase in the activity of aminoglycoside antibiotics, resulting in 52.63 % of PAT-enriched bacteria acquiring aminoglycoside resistance genes. However, from the perspective of overall microbial community, the proportion of aminoglycoside, beta-lactam and tetracycline resistance genes carried by microbial community in PAT group was lower than CON group (P < 0.05). Fecal samples from the PAT group contained greater abundances of Subdoligranulum (P < 0.05) and Lachnospiraceae&#95;NK4A136&#95;group (P < 0.05) on days 28 and 70 compared to CON. Network analysis and abundance variations of the different bacteria obtained by linear discriminant analysis effect size analysis showed that pasteurized colostrum feeding reduced the interactions among related bacteria and maintained stability of the hind-gut microbiome. Acyl-homoserine lactone (AHL) serves as a key signaling molecule for quorum sensing (QS) in bacteria. QS-related genes and physiological processes in Microcystis aeruginosa remain elusive. In this study, we elucidated the regulatory role of AHL-mediated QS in M. aeruginosa. Using AHL activity extract and transcriptomic analysis, we revealed significant effects of the AHL on growth and photosynthesis. AHL significantly increased chlorophyll a (Chl-a) content and accelerated photosynthetic rate thereby promoting growth. Transcriptome analysis revealed that AHL stimulated the up-regulation of photosynthesis-related genes (apcABF, petE, psaBFK, psbUV, etc.) as well as nitrogen metabolism and ribosomal metabolism. In addition, AHL-regulated pathways are associated with lipopolysaccharide and phenazine synthesis. Our findings deepen the understanding of the QS system in M. aeruginosa and are important for gaining insights into the role of QS in Microcystis bloom formation. Global aquaculture production is expected to rise to meet the growing demand for food worldwide, potentially leading to increased anthropogenic greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions. As the demand for fish protein increases, so will stocking density, feeding amounts, and nitrogen loading in aquaculture ponds. However, the impact of GHG emissions and the underlying microbial processes remain poorly understood. This study investigated the GHG emission characteristics, key microbial processes, and environmental drivers underlying GHG emissions in low and high nitrogen loading aquaculture ponds (LNP and HNP). The N 2 O flux in HNP (43.1 ± 11.3 μmol m -2  d -1 ) was significantly higher than in LNP (-11.3 ± 25.1 μmol m -2  d -1 ), while the dissolved N 2 O concentration in HNP (52.8 ± 7.1 nmol L -1 ) was 150 % higher than in LNP (p < 0.01). However, the methane (CH 4 ) and carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) fluxes and concentrations showed no significant differences (p > 0.05). N 2 O replaced CH 4 as the main source of Global Warming Potential in HNP. Pond sediments acted as a sink for N 2 O but a source for CH 4 and CO 2 . The △N 2 O/(△N 2 O + △N 2 ) in HNP (0.015 ± 0.007 %) was 7.7-fold higher than in LNP (0.002 ± 0.001 %) (p < 0.05). The chemical oxygen demand to NO 2 -N ratio was the most important environmental factor explaining the variability of N 2 O fluxes. Ammonia-oxidizing bacteria driven nitrification in water was the predominant N 2 O source, while comammox-driven nitrification and nosZII-driven N 2 O reduction in water were key processes for reducing N 2 O emission in LNP but decreased in HNP. The strong CH 4 oxidization by Methylocystis and CO 2 assimilation by algae resulted in low CH 4 emissions and CO 2 sink in the aquaculture pond. The Mantel test indicated that HNP increased N 2 O fluxes mainly through altering functional genes composition in water and sediment. In situ photocatalytic synthesis of H 2 O 2 for disinfection has attracted widespread attention because it is a clean and environmentally friendly sterilization method. Graphitic carbon nitride has been used as a very selective photocatalyst for H 2 O 2 generation but has some limitations (e.g., insufficient light absorption, rapid electron-hole recombination, and slow direct two-electron reduction processes) that prevent efficient H 2 O 2 production. In this study, potassium-doped graphite carbon nitride with nitrogen vacancies (NDKCN) was prepared using a simple method involving a thermal fusion salt and N 2 calcination, which possessed an ultrathin nanosheet structure (1.265 nm) providing abundant active sites. Synergistic effects caused by nitrogen vacancies and K + and I - doping in the NDKCN photocatalyst gave the NDKCN a good ability to absorb light, undergo fast charge transfer, and give a high photoelectric current response. The optimized photocatalytic H 2 O 2 yield of the NDKCN was 780.1 μM·g -1 ·min -1 , which was 10 times the yield of the pristine g-C 3 N 4 . Tests involving quenching reactive species, electron spin resonance, and rotating disk electrodes indicated that one-step two-electron direct reduction on the NDKCN caused excellent H 2 O 2 generation performance. The ability to efficiently generate H 2 O 2 in situ gave NDKCN an excellent bactericidal performance, and 7.3 log 10 (colony-forming units·mL -1 ) of Escherichia coli were completely eliminated within 80 min. Scanning electron microscopy images before and after sterilization indicated the changes in bacteria caused by the catalytic activity.
