An account is given of eight dialysis patients, all candidates for transplantation, subjected to one-stage bilateral nephrectomy. The operative technique, bilateral dorsal lumbotomy with the patient prone, is described, and its advantages and disadvantages are discussed. As the method has been previously described only twice in this connexion, the authors wish to stress the superiority of the method in these high-risk patients. The indications for the operation and the most favourable time for performing it are reviewed.
