Most people have at least one cookbook that has become their definitive kitchen reference. For me, it's a worn, early edition of the Better Homes and Gardens cookbook. I'm pretty sure it was my grandmother's and somehow wound up on my shelf. While many of the book's recipes are a little past their prime, I frequently consult with it on basic principles such as table settings - I always forget how to position the wine and water glasses - or measurement conversions.
