Metal complexes (metal: ligand = 1 : 1) have been obtained via the reaction of 4-R-5-nitrophthalonitriles with erbium and lutetium acetates and chlorides. 1 : 2 heteroleptic complexes have been synthesized based on them, containing unsubstituted and octasubstituted phthalocyanine ligands at the metal atom. The products have been characterized by a set of physico-chemical methods.

Data on PCB and OCP distributions in atmospheric air, snow cover, and soil in Usol’e-Sibirskoe and its suburbs are presented. It is shown PCBs and OCPs are continuing to accumulate in soil as a result of their volatilization from polluted soil at the industrial area, atmospheric transport, and deposition on adjacent territories.

We have analyzed the molar volumes and structures in solutions of a series of azines, azoles, conformationally nonrigid bis(2-substituted benzimidazol-1-yl)methanes, and chromium tricarbonyl complexes of arenes. For most of the compounds, the rules of molar volume additivity with respect to the bonds and groups increments hold. Molecules of bis(2-substituted benzimidazol-1-yl)methanes exist in the form of conrotatory comformers with aryl fragments being out of the plane of bridging NCN bond angle. Strong linear correlations between the molar volume and molar refraction have been revealed within the studied compounds classes. In the case of chromium tricarbonyl complexes of arenes, the coordination bond polarity has increased with growing π-donor ability of the ligand, the molar volume increment of Cr(CO)3 has increased as well, due to transfer of π-electron density from the ligand. The simplification of dipole moment and Kerr constant determination has been demonstrated.

In oxidation of 1,3-dinitro- and 1,3,5-trinitrobenzene acetonate σ adducts (Yanovskii complexes) with sodium, potassium, and tetrabutylammonium cations in acetonitrile and tetrahydrofuran (290-313 K), ion pairs are less reactive than free ions, which is explained by charge redistribution in the ring of the σ adducts, decreasing the electron-donor power of the associated anion. Separation of the apparent rate constants into ionic and ion-pair contributions showed that the reactivity of the ion pairs depends on the radius of their cation. The revealed kinetic regularities are interpreted on the basis of AM1 semiempirical quantum-chemical calculations of the ions and ion pairs with lithium cation.
