Abstract

An approach is proposed for taking account of various factors in the analysis of permanent and removable end clips. The factors considered are the pliability of the contact layer between the shaft and the sleeve, the diametric gap, and the pliability of the hinge section in a permanent end clip. Formulas are presented for the clamping forces and hinge dimensions. An algorithm is outlined for calculating the component transmitting the torque and axial force.

Abstract

The operation of chain transmissions is associated with the wear of hinge components: shafts, bushes, and rollers. Wear alters not only the dimensions but the configuration of the parts. As a result, the contact parameters change in the shaft‐bush, bush‐roller, and roller‐ gear-tooth pairs. This modifies the stress‐strain state of the hinge components and the wear rate of the chain. Consequently, we need to know the shape of the contacting surfaces in the course of wear. Direct measurement is impossible on account of the structural features. Therefore, to determine the wear of the hinge components, the chain segment must be disassembled before measurements are possible. However, this leads to unavoidable errors. First, in disassembly, the bushes are deformed on account of internal stress. Second, the internal diameters of the bush and roller surfaces along the generatrix cannot be measured.
