Abstract

The article provides information on a study which investigated the brittle rock properties for Korean Peninsula granite and gneiss through uniaxial compression tests and damage-controlled tests. The study carried out numerical analyses using the cohesion weakening frictional strengthening (CWFS) model. It also evaluated the critical cover depth, which predicts brittle failure in excavation. In addition, the study proposed an empirical method that used a modified damage index.
