Introduction. Facial trauma is a problem that affects a large part of the population and is presented in emergency services; according to the WHO, 50 million people suffer trauma due to accidents, which represents a real public health problem. Objective. To determine what is the prevalence of facial trauma in patients treated at the General Hospital of Tehuacán, Puebla, in the period 2018-2019. Methodology. Retrospective, cross-sectional and descriptive study. With a population of adult patients of both sexes, who required hospitalization for trauma, at the General Hospital of Tehuacán, Puebla, in the period of 2018-2019. Results. Of the 114 patients studied, the highest prevalence in age was in patients from 18 to 28 years old with 34.21%, and from 29 to 38 years old with 21.02%; the most affected sex was male with 68%, females 32%; the main cause was interpersonal violence with 28.07%, followed by vehicle accidents with 20.17%. The middle third was the most affected with 56.01%, followed by the lower third with 24% and the upper third with 21.05%; the most prevalent fracture was that of the nose with 38%. This differs from what was reported in the national and international literature, in which the most prevalent fracture is mandibular. Conclusions. Maxillofacial or facial trauma remains a public health problem where studies should continue to be carried out to raise awareness and adopt stricter strategies to reduce this health problem.
