The article discusses the pharmacological and nutritional potential of Hancornia speciosa Gomes (Apocynaceae), a tree species found in the Brazilian Cerrado that is both fruitful and medicinal. The species is known for its healing, anti-inflammatory, and blood pressure control properties. Additionally, its fruits are economically exploited in the production of foods such as ice cream. Studies show that the species has antioxidant activity and is rich in vitamin C, vitamin B2, B3, carotenoids, calcium, iron, zinc, and phenolic compounds. Various compounds and pharmacological activities have also been identified, including anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, gastroprotective, hypoglycemic, vasodilatory, hepatoprotective, antihypertensive, chemopreventive for cancer, antidiabetic, angiogenic, and healing properties.
