This essay problematizes the reflections on the future in the contemporary world that approaches it unilaterally from its “reduction”, “stagnation” and “threat”. We argue that the perspectives of the future, reduced to its “impossibility” has ontological, epistemological, ethical-political and affective consequences that are dangerous for the intellectual and everyday environment, as it feeds the feeling that there is no way to overcome the challenges of the contemporary world, thus denying the mobilizing character of historical experience. This argument is conducted in the essay through the report of a classroom experience linked to the teaching of Theory of History. The experience made use of the students' dreams as a possible way to restore/rebuild our relationship with reality and with the future at the university. We also argue, based on the reported experience, that the exercise of recording, theoretical approach and sharing of dreams in community allows a broader perception of the challenges of contemporary temporality, as well as the construction of other possible worlds.

The article thematizes the relationship between history theory and teaching of history, considering two problems that affect both the theoretical debate on history and history teaching in contemporary times. The first is the problem of temporality as an analytical tool that points to the articulations among past-present-future of societies in time and, in particular, of the social experience of time in the contemporary temporality marked by “actualism”. The second is the problem of post-truth as an epistemological behavior that points to the repetition of a previously recognized system of beliefs. Finally, we articulate both problems to the challenge of instrumentalizing history for democratization through “poetic truth”, organized by affections such as empathy and care and on democratic values such as the decentralization of voices, appreciation of audition and the primacy of difference. In addition to the conceptual repertoire contained in the traditional debate on temporality and post-truth, we brought to dialogue the reflections and teaching experiences of three professor-authors in their dissertations produced within the scope of ProfHistoria.

This article discusses some aspects of the contemporary crisis based on its relationship with temporality. We argue that a certain difficulty in the emergence of intellectual and political proposals for its confrontation can be attributed, among other factors, to a form of experimentation of the future, which is not fully determined by the expectation of perfection, perfectibility and progress. It also discusses the sensation of a possible imprisonment in the crisis in view of a certain form of its confrontation from the media and social networks. In the end, we approach perspectives that seek to go beyond the categories of pessimism and optimism. The insistence on the classification of intellectual diagnoses or political actions from them establishes a dependence on an expectation of the ideal future.
