Objective: To map the competencies of Primary Health Care nurses in border regions of Brazil and Paraguay., Method: Exploratory qualitative studyconducted between February and July 2020, with 64 nurses from six Brazilian municipalities bordering Paraguay. It was conducted in three stages: 1. Documentary study: analysis of legal documents to identify the nurse's competencies. 2. Application of instrument to the study population .3. Mapping of competencies, through the competencies expressed by nurses analyzed using the collective subject discourse technique., Results: Twenty-eight general competencies were identified, categorized as assistance and management, and five specific competencies required to work in border regions: conducting a situational diagnosis of the border community; attending to foreign users with active and humanized listening; communicating appropriately with foreign users; identifying the epidemiological profile of the border; and, understanding the health policies of the neighboring country. The competencies required for the work from the participants' perspective were included in the mapping. The competence gap identified in the mapping refers to educational practices in communities., Final Considerations: The study identified the necessary competencies for nurses to work in border regions, but pointed out gaps in the training and continuing education of these professionals.

Objective: To estimate trait and state anxiety levels among intensivecare professionals during the Covid-19 pandemic., Method: Cross-sectional, analytical study, conducted from April to July 2022, in a teaching hospital in southern Brazil, using the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory scale., Results: Trait and state anxiety were present in more than half of the sample, being associated with gender, age group, having children, weekly workload, time working in the hospital and ICU (p<0.05) for the state; and associated with gender, having children, profession, daily and weekly workload, and time working in the hospital (p<0.05) for the trait., Conclusion: Trait and state anxiety were medium to high level for women, young, without children, non-nurses, with a daily shift of 9 to 18 working hours, a weekly workload of more than 40 hours, with less than five years of experience in intensive care and with more than five years of experience working in the institution.

Objective: To build and validate a self-report instrument to assess the comfort of adolescents with cancer undergoing chemotherapy., Methods: This methodological study was developed in five stages: scoping review; qualitative study to characterize comfort from the perspective of adolescents with cancer undergoing chemotherapy; instrument construction; instrument content validation by experts; pre-test with a group of adolescents., Results: In the scoping review, 20 comfort changes were identified; regarding the perspective of comfort for adolescents, it was possible to identify the effects on their daily lives and the impact on chemotherapy; in content validation, the index was 0.96 and Cronbach's Alpha 0.87. In the pre-test, the instrument obtained the final version with 37 items and Cronbach's Alpha 0.94., Conclusions: The constructed and validated self-report instrument showed good reliability related to satisfactory psychometric parameters and can be used by nurses in clinical practice to assess and evidence comfort changes.

Objective: To interpret the cultural practices of health care and illness of elderly people descendants of Ukrainians., Method: Qualitative research developed with two family general informants and 22 elderly key informants, from August 2017 to March 2020, in a rural community, analyzed through domains, taxonomies and cultural theme. The cultural theme is based on the Theory of Culture Care Diversity and Universality., Results: Four cultural domains and taxonomies and a cultural theme emerged. In the cultural theme, the term "purity" represents the practices that can be maintained by the elderly, family and community. The term "hidden face of danger" are practices that require negotiations and restructuring, however, they occupy a valuable space for cultural preservation., Final Considerations: The cultural practices of health care and illness of the elderly were shaped both by the culture of Ukrainian origin, as well as by the culture of their current belonging, the Brazilian one.

Objective: To propose a Permanent Health Education Model with strategies linked to the Five Disciplines framework for the development of competencies of professionals who work in direct care for women in situations of violence., Method: A qualitative research carried out by the focus group technique, with professionals who are part of an intersectoral network in Curitiba-PR, from August to October 2019. Data analyzed by content analysis in the thematic modality, in the light of the theoretical framework of the Five Disciplines: personal mastery; mental model; shared vision; team learning and systems thinking., Results: The Five Disciplines were evidenced in the categories, as well as strategies to be used for competence development. A diagrammatic representation was used to be covered during the learning process., Conclusion: The strategies suggested by professionals who work in the care for women in situations of violence supported the proposition of a Permanent Health Education Model based on the adopted theoretical framework.

Objective: To reflect on the approaches of the Systematization of Nursing Care, ontology and complex thinking in professional nursing practice., Method: A reflective theoretical study grounded on the Complexity Theory of Edgar Morin and on the ontological principles of computational application which enables representing nursing concepts., Results: The paradigm of complexity breaks the linearity and expands the meaning of Systematization of Nursing Care, supporting a conceptualization of new entities and objectives, moving away from reductionism in work practice. Ontology is considered as a potential technology for creating a standardized language capable of representing the Systematization of Nursing Care from the perspective of complex thinking., Conclusion: Ontology furthers the formal representation of Systematization of Nursing Care knowledge, creating strength in its identity, organization, and sharing its knowledge and information. Supporting the dissemination of common nursing vocabulary contributes to nurses' daily experience and decisions.

Objective: To analyze the relationship between occupation and lung cancer in patients at a national referral hospital for cancer care in southern Brazil., Method: Hospital-based case-control study conducted between February and October 2019. Occupational histories were coded according to international classifications and translated into occupations associated with lung cancer (List A and B). The odds ratios were adjusted for smoking, with a 95% confidence interval, calculated by conditional logistic regression., Results: 99 cases and 227 controls were included. Among men, the occupation of painters (list A) was associated with lung cancer (OR = 14.3; 95% CI: 1.8-116.5), there were no occupations in list B associated with lung cancer. In women, no increased risks were found., Conclusions: It has been shown that exposure to occupational carcinogens among repair and construction painters increases the risk of lung cancer.

Objective: To construct a nursing care protocol for children in post-hematopoietic stem cell transplantation., Method: Methodological research carried out from January to September 2019, in three steps: (a) integrative review (nursing care was identified); (b) theoretical structuring and organization of healthcare based on the Theory of Basic Human Needs and on the International Classification for Nursing Practice (supplementing the review data); and (c) development of a protocol in the three previously mentioned stages. Analysis of the understanding of the protocol's items/care was performed by three specialist nurses., Results: The care protocol consists of 40 nursing problems and is organized in accordance with the psychobiological, psychosocial, and psycho-spiritual needs of children undergoing transplantation, integrating practical and guidance care., Conclusion: The care protocol is an important technology for nursing care to transplanted children, aimed to prevent and manage transplantation complications.

Objective: to verify the association between the qualification of nursing professionals and the occurrence of adverse events in neonatal and pediatric intensive care units., Method: Cross-sectional and evaluation study conducted in six intensive care units of five public hospitals in the state of Paraná, Brazil. Data was collected from April/2017 to January/2018 through the use of a questionnaire to be completed by 143 nursing professionals and retrospective analysis of 79 medical records using the Neonatal Trigger Tool and Pediatric Trigger Tool instruments. The prognostic factors were professional training and the existence, or not, of a continuing education service; analysis was performed by logistic regression., Results: Detected 30 adverse events in 22 medical records analyzed. There was a prevalence of infection (n = 12; 40%) and skin damage (n = 9; 30%). Among the prognostic factors, continuing education was identified as a protective factor against adverse events (p≤0.05)., Conclusion: Continuing education was associated with the prevention of adverse events in neonatal and pediatric intensive care units.

Objective: To identify the liaison nurse competences at hospital discharge in the light of Strengths-Based Nursing Care theoretical reference., Method: Descriptive and qualitative study, developed at the province of Quebéc-Canada, with 23 liaison nurses. The data were collected from March to July 2016, by a semi-structured questionnaire via Survey Monkey® electronic platform and analyzed through the content analysis, supported by software Qualitativa Data Analysis Miner., Results: The categories that has emerged were: competences related to patient care, competences related to personal characteristics of the liaison nurse and managerial competences., Final Considerations: Liaison nurses hold a set of competences from different dimensions, which provide the care centered in the person, in its potentialities, and assure the continuity of patient care with hospital discharge.

Objective: To know the institutionalization process and the functional clinical condition of elderly people who suffered family violence, from the perspective of the elderly and professionals., Methods: Qualitative, which used oral history as a data collection technique. Held in a long-term institution for the elderly, using a semi-structured interview script. The participants were three nursing technicians, two nursing assistants, five caregivers for the elderly and eight elderly. Thematic analysis was performed with the aid of the MAXQDA® software., Results: Three categories were identified: The condition of vulnerability and the care needs of the elderly, indicating welcoming as an intervention; Suffering and denial of conditions of vulnerability; and Situations of family violence and the positive aspects of reception., Conclusions: Long-term institutions are considered important spaces for comprehensive and humanized care, as well as essential for the protection of elderly victims of family violence.

Objective: To identify the factors associated with the development of skin allergies in the first year of life in moderate and late preterm infants., Method: This is a cross-sectional study with 151 moderate and late preterm infants, born between May 2016 and May 2017. Participants were evaluated in the 3rd, 6th, 9th and 12th months of life, in telephone interviews. Statistical analyzes were performed in the SPSS software with frequency comparison tests and logistic regression., Results: The prevalence of skin allergy, in the perception of caregivers, among late and moderate preterm infants was 16%. Factors such as being admitted to neonatal intensive care (p = 0.006) and not being breastfed (p = 0.041) showed a significant association with the development of skin allergies in the 3rd and 12th months of life, respectively., Conclusion: Skin allergy, in the perception of caregivers, is more severe in newborn infants who have clinical respiratory and gastrointestinal manifestations, be it conditioning or cause-effect. Breastfeeding proved to be a protective factor in the first year of life.

Objective: To describe the reflection-action process for the development of nurses' competence in prenatal care., Method: Action research with 30 nurses from primary health care in a municipality in the south of the country, through workshops held between June and August 2019, analyzed according to Creswell., Results: Nurses identify nursing consultation as a differential in prenatal care; point out the ignorance of work processes as an obstacle to the protagonism in prenatal care; and they highlight the registration of activities and the dissemination of the nurse's role with the team and the population as aspects that strengthen and value the profession., Conclusion: The workshops enabled reflection to identify and overcome obstacles to the development of a competent practice, by strengthening nurses regarding the work process itself to discuss and implement changes in order to improve and enhance the care provided.

Objective: To reflect on the understanding of financial toxicity, as an adverse event of cancer diagnosis and treatment, and its implications on the quality of life of these patients., Method: Reflexive study, based on the international literature about the concept of financial toxicity and its relationship with quality of life., Results: Financial toxicity is related to the financial difficulties associated with cancer and its treatment, which occur in the lives of patients and family members. Its consequences include: possible worsening of the clinical symptoms, indebtedness, loss of professional opportunities, changes in family habits and decline in quality of life., Final Considerations: Measures to minimize financial toxicity should also be a concern of the state and be part of the therapeutic itinerary of cancer patients. Dialogue can become an essential tool for the health team to clarify the therapeutic options and their costs. This attitude shows respect and preserves the patient's autonomy, which can minimize the feeling of helplessness in the face of the disease.

Objective: To identify the sources of informational support used by families of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder., Method: Qualitative and descriptive research carried out in three health institutions and three teaching institutions in Paraná, Ceará and Amapá. 55 family members participated who responded to semi-structured interviews, between September 2018 and 2019. Thematic categorical analysis and the resources of Qualitative Data Analysis Software were used., Results: Families find informational support from several sources, both formal and informal, such as the internet and other sources (books, Workshops, courses, television)., Conclusion: Families use different sources of information, however, often incomplete and contradictory, which can generate a new demand on health professionals, in order to integrate access to information in the health care process, since they must be considering benefits and weaknesses that this represents for society.

Objective: To characterize the production related to the insertion of Intrauterine Devices by doctors and nurses in a low-risk maternity hospital., Method: Cross-sectional exploratory research, with retrospective collection of secondary data from medical records of women who received the device in a low-risk maternity hospital in Curitiba, Paraná, over 12 months. Data collected between October/2017 to March/2018 that underwent descriptive analysis and Chi-square test., Results: Of the 828 insertions, there was a significant difference between women who received the IUD at the Obstetric Center (247) and Ambulatory (571) in terms of the expulsion rate (p = 0.00001), with a greater chance of expulsion in the immediate postpartum period (Odds ratio 8.73), there was no significant difference between nurses (481) and doctors (347) (p = 0.07), however, more chance of expulsion when the doctor was (Odds ratio 3.60). The main complications were dysmenorrhea and vaginosis., Conclusion: The insertion of the IUD in the ambulatory by the nurse proved to be as safe as by the doctor.

Objective: To validate the construct and test the reliability of the Brazilian version of Hypertension Knowledge-Level Scale., Methods: Methodological research with 220 participants in a primary health care unit from Curitiba, Paraná. The data were collected with a social demographic questionnaire and the Brazilian version of the scale. The construct validity and reliability were assessed using Cronbach's Alpha, Pearson's Correlation and Analysis of Variance. The discriminant validity was verified comparing groups of people with hypertension and without, using T test., Results: Cronbach's Alpha was 0.74. The groups comparison showed that people with hypertension had better results (p<0,001). Pearson's Correlation showed that the questions measure different aspects of the same construct, justifying its organization in subdimensions., Conclusion: The Brazilian version of Hypertension Knowledge-Level Scale is a reliable instrument, which had its construct and criterion validated to measure knowledge about hypertension among Brazilian people. It can help health professionals with planning educative actions.

Objective: To identify the risk of pressure injury in patients of emergency care units., Method: Descriptive, cross-sectional, and quantitative by applying the Braden scale to 377 patients from eight units in Paraná, between April and September 2016. Descriptive statistics and Spearman's correlation were used, with a significance of 0.1% for analysis., Results: There was a prevalence of risk-free patients (64.5%; n=243) and of older adults (54.6%; n=206); those at high risk for pressure injury were in the emergency department. Most of the variables were preserved, with emphasis on sensory perception (65.3%; n=246). The Spearman's correlation coefficient was at least 0.93 and indicated a strong linear relation between the results obtained in the variables and in the scale; it was verified that the risk for pressure injury increases with age., Conclusions: Most of the patients were not at risk; however, the older adults and those treated in the emergency department were at high risk of developing pressure injuries.

Objective: To describe the reasons for the disposal of blood in the coordinating blood center of the State of Paraná and to estimate the financial costs resulting from potentially avoidable discards., Method: A descriptive, retrospective and documentary analysis, with data related to the period from 2010 to 2015 of a Brazilian coordinating blood center collected from a governmental database and analyzed by descriptive statistics. This study was approved by the Ethics Research Committee (CAEE 63074916.0.0000.5225)., Results: 101,813 units were discarded, representing 22.3% of the total of 455,684 produced; plasma was the most discharged blood component. The main reason for discarding was lipemia (35.8%); the analysis showed that 56.9% of the disposals were considered potentially avoidable with an estimated paid value of approximately US$2 million., Conclusion: The expressive potential of avoidance of disposal of blood units and blood components highlights the importance of planning actions aiming at their best use, contributing to the reduction of amounts paid for these processes.

Objective: To analyze the safety culture related to the communication dimensions and event notification from the perception of the health team., Method: Survey carried out in a teaching hospital of Paraná through the application of the Survey on Patient Safety Culture questionnaire to 158 professionals working in surgical units from May to September 2017.The analysis of the data was done by descriptive and analytical statistics; dimensions with positive responses ≥75% represent strong areas for patient safety., Results: No dimension or item/question were considered strong to surgical patient safety. There was a difference, with a less negative perception from nursing in relation to medicine, in the dimensions "Return of the information and communication about the error" and "Frequency of events reports" (p<0.001)., Conclusion: The health team perceives that there is fragility in the patient safety in relation to the communication dimension, demanding actions that promote the patient safety.

Objective: To demonstrate the role of nurses as project managers in the planning and development phases of an educational game about safe medication management for nursing technicians., Method: Case report of the experience in the use of the Agile Scrum Methodology with the objective of creating an educational game in the fortnightly sessions of the participating group, between December 2015 and December 2018, in a university hospital in Curitiba., Results: The nurse's abilities to lead the group using the Scrum Methodology were demonstrated in an effective way, which led to the achievement of the objectives., Conclusions: By sharing their clinical and educational experience, combining management skills developed throughout their professional practice, the nurse is able to contribute not only with scientific knowledge about patient quality and safety, but also in management of projects and achievement of goals set by the team.

Objective: To identify the adverse reactions associated with the infusion of hematopoietic stem cells on day zero of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation., Methodology: Integrative literature review, without temporal cut, with search in the following databases: PubMed, CINAHL, SCOPUS, BVS, SciELO, Web of Science and CAPES; the final sample consisted of 18 scientific articles, published between 1998 and 2017, based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria., Results: Mild and moderate adverse reactions were the most frequent in studies that used the classification by severity, and nausea and emesis had the highest incidence; the most affected organ systems were the cardiovascular, respiratory and gastrointestinal., Conclusion: The main adverse reactions identified in the studies were nausea and emesis. Those classified as mild and moderate were the most frequent in the studies that used the severity classification; and the cardiovascular, respiratory and gastrointestinal systems were the most affected in those that used the classification by organic systems.

Objective: To describe the experience of pregnant women at an advanced age., Method: This is a qualitative and descriptive study, which was conducted with 21 pregnant women aged 35 years older or over undergoing high-risk prenatal care, from December 2015 to April 2016. The data were collected by means of semi-structured interviews. The thematic analysis of the data followed the six steps proposed by Creswell., Results: Six thematic categories have appeared: Ambivalence: from fear to happiness; The (un)planning and the divine; Family (re)organization: from support to non-acceptance; Maturity as a facilitator for motherhood; Advanced age and risk perception; The biological age of the body hindering pregnancy., Conclusion: This study describes the experience of pregnant women at an advanced age and unveils several experienced aspects that could be used as allowances for nursing care to women who become pregnant at an advanced age.

Objective: To develop a predictive scale for determining complications in adults with hypertension and actions for care supported in primary care., Method: Methodological research developed in the municipality of Curitiba-PR in 2013 and 2014, carried out in two stages, the first through the collection of data from 387 adults with hypertension through a structured interview and anxiety scales, depression, quality of life, medication adherence and social support. The second step was the construction of the scale from the statistically significant variables in the multivariate analysis., Results: The scale consisted of age, sex, smoking, time of diagnosis, and risk classification in the health unit, medications in use and depression. Later, through literature review, actions were suggested for supported self-care., Conclusion: The scale enables identification of factors that may predict the development of complications of hypertension and provides actions to supported care.

Objectives: To analyze in scientific publications how the Functional Independence Measure (FIM) has been employed to evaluate the elderly., Methods: Integrative review of periodical publications between 2011 and 2015, available online in full-text in Portuguese, English and Spanish., Results: 129 articles were found; after the application of the criteria, they resulted in 21. The studies were categorized into two groups: A) follow or compare scores in FIM (cohort studies, case-control, clinical trials), focusing on rehabilitation, evaluation of programs and changes in the functional level after procedures/interventions; and B) measure/associate the functionality of the elderly (cross-sectional studies), focused on evaluation protocols in elderly health and associations to the caregiver burden, hospital stay, balance, satisfaction with life, cognition and clinical/socio-demographic aspects., Conclusion: The FIM was used in several scenarios of healthcare for the elderly, particularly in rehabilitation and outpatient clinics or health centers.

Objective: Assess the quality of life of workers who underwent work adjustments and adaptations in a public state university., Methods: This was a cross-sectional study carried out with 92 employees from a public state university. Data were collected from November 2012 to May 2013 using a population characterization questionnaire and the Medical Outcome Study 36-item Short Form, and then underwent a univariate and bivariate analysis through the Mann-Whitney test., Results: The two domains that obtained the best scores were social function and emotional performance, whereas the ones with the worst scores were physical performance and body pain. Most workers did not note changes in their health status in the last year., Conclusions: The quality of life scores, in general, were not high, especially in physical aspects. Therefore, measures need to be implemented to evaluate the effectiveness of work adjustments and adaptations, in order to improve occupational health.

Objective: To construct and validate a checklist for patient safety in emergency care., Method: This is methodological research conducted in Curitiba, in 2015, with construction and validation stages. The checklist was based on the guidelines of the Brazilian patient safety programme and validated online using the Delphi method, with a questionnaire, and with the participation of 23 Brazilian specialists in the first round and 20 in the second round. The data were analysed using the Content Validity Index (CVI), Cronbach's α, and Fisher's Exact Test., Results: We produced a checklist with 18 valid and reliable items (94% of CVI, Cronbach's α = 0.91)., Conclusions: The checklist comprises patient safety actions and items to predict risk situations, corrective actions, and promote safety in emergency services and other health-related contexts.

Objective: To describe the use of online information as support to families of children and adolescents with chronic disease., Methods: This is an integrative review conducted in August 2015, with an online search in the following databases: PubMed, Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde, Cumulative Index to Nursing & Allied Health Literature, and Science Direct., Results: Twelve studies were selected from the 293 studies found in the databases. After analysis, the following two categories emerged: Potentialities of the use of online information by families of children and adolescents with chronic disease, and Weaknesses of the use of online information by families of children and adolescents with chronic disease., Conclusions: The internet offers a wide range of information that helps families manage the care of children and adolescents with chronic diseases, but it also has characteristics that need to be analysed.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the quality of life of women suffering from breast cancer undergoing chemotherapy in public and private health care systems., Method: It is an observational, prospective study with 64 women suffering from breast cancer. Data was collected with two instruments: Quality of Life Questionnaire C30 and Breast Cancer Module BR23. By applying Mann Whitney and Friedman's statistical tests, p values < 0.05 were considered statistically significant., Results: The significant results in public health care systems were: physical functions, pain symptom, body image, systemic effects and outlook for the future. In private health care systems, the results were sexual, social functions and body image. Women's quality of life was harmed by chemotherapy in both institutions., Conclusion: The quality of life of women has been harmed as a result of the chemotherapy treatment in both institutions, but in different domains, indicating the type of nursing care that should be provided according to the characteristics of each group.

Objective: To describe the social representations of illness among people with chronic kidney disease undergoing haemodialysis., Method: Descriptive, qualitative research, anchored on the social representations theory. This study was conducted in the municipality of Ponta Grossa, Paraná State, Brazil, with 23 adults with chronic kidney disease. Data were collection between February and November 2012 by means of a semi-structured interview, and analyzed using Content Analysis., Results: The interviews led to the categories "the meaning of kidney disease": awareness of finitude, and "survival": the visible with chronic kidney disease. The representation of illness unveiled a difference and interruption in life projects, and haemodialysis meant loss of freedom, imprisonment and stigma., Conclusion: Family ties and the individuals´ social role are determining representations for healthcare.

This is an exploratory, descriptive and quantitative study, based on the following categories: work process, workloads and fatigue in a teaching hospital in Curitiba in the southern region of Brazil. The article characterizes the load and stress experienced in a university hospital, based on a previous study entitled "System for monitoring the health of nursing workers" (SIMOSTE). The results show that females were the most affected (85.9%) and the most affected professionals were nursing assistants (53.1%). The highest number of sick leaves was due to diseases of the osteoarticular system (25.2%) and the most significant loads were mechanical and physiological with 33.06% each. These results may support intervention strategies in the policies directed toward the workers' health to ensure a better quality of life and consequently improve the quality of care provided to the user.

This is an integrated literature review intended to get to know the Brazilian scientific production regarding the functional capacity of the elderly. BDENF, LILACS, MEDLINE and SciELO databases were consulted in the sampling period from January, 2001, to September, 2010. Eight articles were selected with nursing professionals (4) as the main authors of such publications. Publication year of the articles is between 2006 and 2010, with predomination of quantitative research focused on the multidimensionality of the elderly. Questionnaires and scales were used to assess the functional capacity of the elderly and constraining factors for its performance were also indicated. Scientific studies on the theme are incipient, which evidences the need for further research aiming to improve the quality of life of the elderly.

This is a qualitative research study held between October, 2008, and March, 2009, with 45 users over 60 years of age from a Health Unit, which aimed to identify their representations of chronic disease. Inerviews were carried out to collect chronic disease's representation. Three team meetings were also carried out, with an average of 8 users. Twenty-four (24) users participated in this step. The themes brought out of their discourses were: "The arrival of the disease: explanatory factors"; "The mystery of the bodyly changes: an obligation to change", and "The importance of learning and sharing the experience". Participants recognized the factors related to the disease onset and their commitments, the changes necessary to keep living and put off complications, and they also valued the exchange of experiences through dialogue in educational activities.

Qualitative descriptive, exploratory research developed in 2009, in the emergency service of a general hospital in Curitiba, Paraná, Brazil. It aims to investigate how nurses take care of patients with clinical and psychiatric comorbidity. Six nurses, seven nursing technicians and 14 nursing assistants participated. We obtained data through semi-structured interviews and submitted to analysis of thematic content. The categories that emerged from the data were: Care is technical and without specificity; Safety and protection of patient; and Physical and chemical restraint as protective measures. The study revealed that nursing care of patients with clinical and psychiatric comorbidity does not have any specificity, with emphasis on basic care, physical and chemical restraint. We concluded that it is necessary to establish local training in mental health and make nurses aware of the care needs of this clientele.

The study features the author's lived experience of phenomenological enlightenment in which she pursued to operate Polak's (1996) concepts of Nursing and Care, which have corporality as a reference. It describes the living experiences of four clients hospitalized in an Orthopedics and Trauma Unit of an School Hospital of Curitiba's metropolitan area, according to Polak's caring process moments, which are: perception; discovery and dialogue; building of new knowledge; and implementation of caring actions. It was noticed that the concepts are feasible on practical situations.
