The National Bank for Economic Development (BNDES) consists of one of the largest banks in the world, fundamental in financing economic development in Brazil. However, with the evolution of the Brazilian credit market in the last twenty years, several changes have occurred in relation to the performance of institutions providing payroll loans in the medium and long term, such as funds and asset-providing assets. This paper aims to identify the main factors that influenced the drop in BNDES 'participation in the Brazilian credit market over the years 2007 to 2019. To reach the aim two models of multiple linear regressions were proposed. Besides, in addition to the regression models, a longitudinal analysis of credit market and BNDES data was developed. The result proves that the equity of fixed income funds, the portfolios of free and targeted resources, the GDP growth rate and the number of accounts in brokerage firms have a significant and negative influence on BNDES financing. As there are more investments in fixed income funds, an increase in the amounts of free and targeted funds portfolios, GDP growth and the number of accounts in brokerage firms, there is a tendency for lower disbursements by BNDES, less participation in the Brazilian credit market. The reverse behavior is also valid. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
