This experience report resulting from an academic master degree research carried out in the Post-Graduation in Education Program in the Southeastern Bahia State University. The locus of the research was the Association of Small Rural Producers of Pau Branco (APAB), located in the municipality of Riacho de Santana, State of Bahia, Brazil. The research objectives were based on analyzing non-formal educational practices; organizations and labor relations at APAB; to identify collective and training practices; and to observe the experiences of the subjects in the association. The method used was historical dialectical materialism and the data collection instruments were questionnaires and documentary analysis with the design partners and the families of that community. It was verified that the construction of theoretical/practical knowledge occurs from the perspective of collective/cooperative work and also the agroecological production in the system of agroecological gardens. The data collected showed that in the research period, from 2018 to 2019, associativism took place in the APAB spaces, as the actors included in the investigated context have been organizing themselves in the perspective of implementing public policies aimed at associativism as an alternative sustainable production with an agroecological bias and in solidarity.
