Introduction: It is necessary to apply action protocols as tools to homogenize regenerative periodontal plastic procedures and to establish the guidelines for the periodontist to approach gingival recession with this advanced therapeutic modality. Objective: To design a protocol for the treatment of gingival recession using platelet-rich fibrin membrane associated with coronal advancement flap. Methods: A research with a qualitative approach was carried out in the School of Stomatology of Villa Clara, from July 2020 to December 2021. For the design of the protocol, a preparation phase and an elaboration phase were used; within the latter, three moments were structured: systematic review of the literature, application of group techniques (focal and nominal group) and conclusion of the document. An evaluation by external specialists was carried out before finalizing the definitive structure of the protocol. Results: Five guides for the preparation of protocols, five medical and nursing care protocols and 10 stomatological protocols were consulted. The structure of the document consisted of: cover page, introduction, objectives, target professionals, target population, elaboration process, procedure, algorithm, implementation and revision date, implementation process, evaluation indicators, glossary and bibliographic references. Conclusions: An action protocol was designed that establishes the guidelines for carrying out the regenerative therapeutic procedure, from the selection of patients to the evolution of the therapy. The document was positively evaluated by external specialists.

Introduction: In Cuba thestandards of order and chronology of dental budding, used as a reference, are foreign. Objective: To describe thepatterns of theorder and chronology of outbreak of permanentdentition in Villa Clara province, Cuba. Methods: Anepidemiological and descriptivestudy of permanentdentition in Villa Clara, between 2015 and 2018 wasconducted. Bymeans of simple randommultistagesampling, a sample of 2064 girls and boysbetween 4 and 14 yearsold, born in Villa Clara, withoutalterations in general and craniofacialgrowth, wasobtained. In themtheoutbreakwasobserved and weightedaveragesforageswerecalculated. Results: Differenceswerefoundforagesaccordingto Mayoral, Moyers and Aguila. Symmetrypredominated in more than 50 % and thelowerteetheruptedbeforetheiruppercounterparts, with a frequency of 48.26 %, thelowercanineseruptedafterthelowerfirst premolar. Conclusions: Teethingsymmetrypredominated and occurred in separatetoothgroups, restingperiods and in a polymorphicorder. A tablewiththetootheruptionagesforthepopulation of Villaclarawascreated.

Introduction: Head and neck biomechanical principles are particularly relevant in the fields of orthodontics and dentomaxillofacial orthopedics. Any anomaly should be analyzed and treated within the cranio-cervical-mandibular system applying a comprehensive approach. Objective: Describe the relationship between the sagittal maxillomandibular skeletal pattern, body posture and craniocervical position in adolescents. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted from March 2018 to June 2019. The study sample was 105 adolescents attending seventh grade at Eduardo Anoceto Rega junior high school in Santa Clara. Determination was made of maxillomandibular skeletal patterns Classes I, II and III, measuring the facial convexity in Ricketts' cephalograms, craniocervical extension, normal inclination and flexion positions with Rocabado's cephalogram, and posture type with Bricot's method. Ethical standards were complied with. Use was made of the statistical tests chi-square, Fisher's F and Welch's. Results: Posture D (flat back and anterior scapular plane) prevailed in all skeletal classes: 64.76% of the adolescents, followed by posture C (posterior scapular plane). In Class II, posture D was followed by posture B (scapular and gluteal plane aligned with increased anterior curves): 6.22%. A predominance was observed of craniocervical normal inclination: 46.67% and flexion: 42.86%. In Class III, Rocabado's flexion and posteroinferior angle were more common than the remaining 107º skeletal classes. Conclusions: Cranial position with respect to cervical structures, according to the characteristics of each skeletal class, may be an important indicator in morphological diagnosis. Despite the large number of studies conducted in this field, consensus has not been achieved about the degree of relationship between craniocervical posture and malocclusions.

Introduction: use of a skill-developing didactic approach and the clinical method in training for the diagnosis of dentomaxillofacial anomalies is essential in the subject Orthodontics, so that the general dental practitioner can provide comprehensive care following their own training model. Objective: assess the relevance of a methodology for the teaching of skills required to clinically diagnose dentomaxillofacial anomalies in the subject Orthodontics of the dental training curriculum. Methods: a pedagogical study was conducted, based on both theoretical methods (historical-logical, inductive-deductive, analytical-synthetic and systemic) and empirical methods (expert criteria). Of 33 possible experts, a sample of 30 was selected based on their competence coefficient. Results: a methodology was developed which is structured into stages for organization, planning, implementation and evaluation in the teaching of skills required to diagnose dentomaxillofacial anomalies. Distinguishing features of this methodology are that it clearly points out the relationships between the different didactic categories in the context of dental care with a skill-development approach, is centered on the clinical method, and reveals the need to start from the results of the pedagogical diagnosis. The methodology was assessed by experts, all of whom ranked the seven indicators evaluated as "quite adequate". Conclusions: the methodology proposed is appropriate for application in the teaching of skills required to diagnose dentomaxillofacial anomalies in the subject Orthodontics of the dental training curriculum, according to the opinion of experts.

Accreditation is the process by which the quality of the university studies evaluated is publicly recognized (or certified). Little has been published about the results and experiences of university studies undergoing such a process. It is our purpose to share with colleagues some recommendations for the management of the variable "students" based on the lessons learned along two accreditation processes conducted at the School of Dentistry in Villa Clara. A bibliographic review was conducted in the database ScieLO Cuba. The review included self-evaluation reports and all the work documents of the subcommittee in charge of the variable "students". For self-evaluation of university studies, the Evaluation and Accreditation System has instructed the creation of a commission and five subcommissions, one for each variable. It is recommended that the subcommission for the variable "students" should have an appropriate composition, examine self-evaluation reports from other schools, and develop records or databases with the participation and results of students in the various activities. With respect to the preparation of students for the external inspection, it is recommended to organize informative meetings, as well as instruct students about the objectives of the group interview, the integrating examinations and the work with the artistic talent. Based on the notion that excellence is the result of a permanent self-evaluation process, some suggestions or recommendations are presented for the management of this variable as regards the development of the self-evaluation report and the preparation of students for the external inspection. All this stems from the experience accumulated by a school which has undergone two accreditation processes.

Introduction: early treatment typically obtains an adequate developmental response from the stomatognathic system. Objective: evaluate the effects of early treatment on morphological variables using neuro-occlusal rehabilitation techniques five years after application during primary dentition. Methods: adevelopmental longitudinal descriptive study was conducted from 2001 to 2010 at the School of Dentistry of the University of Medical Sciences of Villa Clara. The study universe was 2 215 five-year-old children from educational institutions of the city of Santa Clara (2001-2002). A staged stratified method was applied. Study variables were analyzed along three evolution stages: initial, intermediate and final. The study sample was composed of 59 children with occlusal interferences during primary dentition, which were treated with functional therapies in 2002 and evaluated one year later (first stage). The second stage extended from 2007 to 2010. The sample consisted of 46 ten-year-old children. An informed consent form was developed to record the commitment of the children selected with the study. The statistical tests performed were Friedman's, Wilcoxon's, Fisher's and classical chi-square measure. Results: increased overjet was found in 33 of the cases, with a predominance of the mesial step (87 %) at the end of the study. A tendency to increased temporary intermolar width was observed throughout the study. Mean values for the first permanent molars were similar to the standard described by Mayoral (47 mm). Conclusions: the favorable changes found in the morphological variables under study five years after application of early treatment with neuro-occlusal rehabilitation confirm that the first five years in the life of a child are the ideal stage to start treating alterations of the stomatognathic system.

Se realizó un estudio epidemiológico descriptivo transversal de la dentición permanente en la provincia de Santa Clara desde el año 2005 al año 2009, con el objetivo de determinar el orden de emergencia de la dentición permanente. El universo fue de 45 724 infantes de ambos sexos entre los 4 y 14 años de edad. La muestra fue de 1 769 individuos. Se hallaron los percentiles de emergencia y a partir del percentil 50 se estableció el orden. Se compararon los dientes para cada grupo eruptivo y se estudió la simetría. Se estableció el orden de emergencia. Hubo diferencias para el orden entre los sexos, hemiarcadas y con las tablas de otros autores. Los dientes más simétricos fueron los incisivos y los primeros molares. Se concluyó que no siempre los dientes inferiores brotaron antes que sus homólogos superiores, los incisivos y primeros molares son los más simétricos en el brote. El primer diente permanente en emerger fue el incisivo central inferior o el primer molar inferior. Lo más frecuente fue que los caninos superiores e inferiores brotaran después que las primeras bicúspides.

Universe included 45 724 infants of both sexes aged between 4 and 14. Sample included 1 769 subjects. There were emergence percentiles and from the 50 percentile the order was established. The teeth for each eruptive group were compared and symmetry was studied, establishing the emergence order. There were order differences between both sexes, hemiarcades and with the tables from other authors. The more symmetric teeth were the incisives and the first molars. We conclude that not always the lower teeth erupt before the upper ones, the incisives and first molars are the more symmetric in eruption. The first erupted permanent tooth may be the lower central incisive or the first lower molar. The more frequent situation is that the upper and lower canines erupt after the first bicuspids.

To determine the permanent dentition emergence chronology in children (boys and girls) from the Santa Clara municipality and to establish the differences in relation to values offered by other populations. The universe included 45 724 infants of both sexes aged between 4 and 14 with a sample of 1 769 subjects. Mean values were obtained establishing the chronology from the 50 percentile comparing the obtained eruption averages with that offered by other authors. The age of permanent teeth emergence was determined in study sample. There was a chronologic advance in: incisors, upper canines, first lower molars and second lower bicuspids, and retard for the second upper bicuspids and the canines in relation to authors selected for comparison. The emergence chronology achieved differs from the values offered by other populations. The great coincidence was in the case of Logan and Kronfeld values. The above chronology differs between sexes.

En el primer mes de vida del niño, la succión juega un papel fundamental para fijar las praxias bucales básicas, que constituyen el patrón funcional de base para el desarrollo y maduración de las funciones del sistema estomatognático del niño mayor y del adulto. Se realizó un estudio descriptivo transversal con aplicación de métodos cuantitativos y recogida de datos cualitativos, para caracterizar el desarrollo de la succión del recién nacido, a través de la rehabilitación neuro-oclusal. El universo de esta investigación estuvo constituido por 56 niños pertenecientes al área de salud de la Policlínica "Santa Clara", en el periodo comprendido de septiembre a noviembre de 2008. Para la recogida de la información acerca de las variables objeto de estudio, se utilizó como instrumento la ficha de observación, que describió el momento de la succión de la leche materna. En el análisis del estudio, para ganar claridad en los resultados, se utilizaron análisis descriptivos y comparativos. La succión del lactante presentó dificultades asociadas a varios factores. Uno fue la posición inadecuada, caracterizada por la falta de alineación y la separación del cuerpo del bebé de la madre. Otro lo constituyó la anatomía de la mama, tal como los pechos ingurgitados y los pezones planos e invertidos. También hubo dificultades relacionadas con el acto mismo de succión, tales como la boca no muy abierta, más areola por debajo de la boca del bebé, el labio inferior invertido, el mentón sin tocar el pecho, y el chasqueo al deglutir. En los recién nacidos tomados como muestra de estudio predominó la succión ineficaz.During the first year of life of infant the suction plays a main role to fix the practical buccal praxis that are the basis functional pattern for development and maturation of Stomatognatic System functions of older child and of adult. A cross-sectional and descriptive study was conducted to apply the quantitative methods and qualitative collection data to characterize the suction development of newborn by neuro-occlusal rehabilitation. Universe included 56 children from "Santa Clara" Polyclinic health area from September to November, 2008. For information collection on the study variables author used the card of feeding observation. In study analysis to clear up the results descriptive and comparative analyses were used. Infant suction had difficulties associated with some factors including the inappropriate position characterized by a lack of alignment and separation of infant body from the mother, as well as the mother breast anatomy, by example, obstructed breast and plain and inverted nipples Also there were another difficulties related to suction including the mouth semi-open, more areola under the baby's mouth, inversion of lower lip, non contact of chin with the breast and clicking at deglutition. In newborn as study sample there was predominance of ineffective suction.

Se estudia una muestra de 165 niños de 5 años de ambos sexos conformada a partir de un universo de 568 alumnos de 21 grupos de preescolar del municipio de Santa Clara. Se seleccionaron los que presentaron dentición temporal completa. A todos se les realizó un estudio de la oclusión, incluyendo aspectos morfológicos y funcionales, con el objetivo de comparar su comportamiento en ambos sexos. Se utilizó la técnica de CHAID para detectar cuáles son las variables que más se distinguen por sexo y las otras variables que puedan interactuar con estas. Entre las morfológicas se encontró una sola que se distingue: La medición de Bogué, y las funcionales que más se distinguen se pueden resumir como: hábito de succión, interferencias en lateralidad desde distintos puntos de vista, y lateralidad máxima. De esta manera se logra predecir, según el CHAID, las características oclusales más probables en cada sexo.A sample of 165 five-years-old children of both sexes, taken from a universe of 568 children making up 21 kindergarten groups in Santa Clara municipality, was studied. Those children who presented with their complete primary dentition were selected. An occlusion study including morphological and functional aspects was performed to compare occlusion in both sexes using CHAID techniques to detect the most outstanding variables by sex and the other variables that may interact with the former. The only noticeable morphological variable was Bogue´s measurement whereas the most evident functional variables were sucking habits, interference in laterality from several viewpoints and maximum laterality. In this way, it is possible to predict the most likely occlusal characteristics by sex according to the CHAID technique.

realizó un estudio longitudinal cuya muestra de estudio estuvo conformada por niños con bajo peso debido a malnutrición fetal, en el Hospital Ginecoobstétrico Docente Provincial "Mariana Grajales" de la ciudad de Santa Clara, entre los años 90 y 93, con edades actuales entre 6 y 8 años, y un grupo control de igual cantidad de niños con crecimiento y desarrollo normal. A todos se les evaluó la edad dentaria con el objetivo de determinar la asociación con la madurez biológica. Los resultados reflejan la influencia de la malnutrición fetal en el desarrollo de la dentición, lo que determina que la edad diagnosticada por el desarrollo dentario es menor en los casos que presentan esta alteración al nacer, mientras que en los niños no afectados (grupo control) existe una tendencia al adelanto en el desarrollo dentario en relación con la edad cronológica.A longitudinal study was carried out in a sample of 100 fetal malnutrition-derived low birthweight children, aged 6-8 years at the time of study, who were born at "Mariana Grajales" provincial teaching gynecobstetric hospital located in Santa Clara City from 1990 to 1993, and a control group of 100 children with normal growth and development. Dental age was assessed in all the children to determine its relation with biological maturity. The results showed the effect of fetal malnutrition on the development of dentition, which indicated that age diagnosed by dental development is lower in children presenting with this disorder at birth whereas in non-affected children (control group) the tendency is that dental development moves ahead of the real chronological age.

La acreditación es el proceso mediante el cual se reconoce públicamente (o certifica) la calidad de la carrera evaluada. Es escasa la publicación de resultados y de experiencias de carreras que hayan transitado por estos procesos. Nuestro propósito es compartir con colegas algunas recomendaciones para el manejo de la variable “estudiantes” sobre la base de la experiencia acumulada en los dos procesos de acreditación que se han realizado en la carrera de Estomatología en Villa Clara. Se realizó una revisión bibliográfica a partir de la base de datos SciELO Cuba. Se consultaron informes de autoevaluación y toda la documentación del trabajo de la subcomisión encargada de la variable “estudiantes”. Para la autoevaluación de la carrera el Sistema de Evaluación y Acreditación de Carreras Universitarias establece la creación de una comisión y cinco subcomisiones, una para cada variable. Se sugiere que la subcomisión de la variable “estudiantes” tenga una composición adecuada, estudie informes de autoevaluación de otras facultades y confeccione registros o bases de datos con la participación y resultados de los estudiantes en las diversas actividades. Y respecto a la preparación de los estudiantes para recibir la inspección externa se recomienda la organización de reuniones informativas, instruir a los estudiantes sobre los objetivos de la entrevista grupal y de los exámenes integradores y del trabajo con el talento artístico. Tomando como base que la excelencia es resultado de un proceso continuo de autoevaluación, se presentan algunas sugerencias o recomendaciones para el manejo de esta variable en lo concerniente a la elaboración del informe de autoevaluación, y a la preparación de los estudiantes para recibir la inspección externa. Todo esto se deriva de la experiencia acumulada por una facultad que ha transitado por dos procesos de acreditación.
