The demand for Portuguese classes has grown in the past years resulting from the recent migration of Chinese, South Koreans, and Japanese to Brazil. Given the scarcity of Brazilian Portuguese textbooks to teach Asian learners and the lack of research to consolidate that field, this study aims to contribute with directions for teaching education of Portuguese as an additional language for Asian learners. We expand the linguistic distance concept and discuss stereotypes associated with Asian students (KUMARAVADIVELU, 2003). To fill some of the theoretical and methodological gaps concerning such context, we rethink the role the teacher plays in this context by interlacing the following concepts: biographical approach (BUSCH, 2006; 2016), broadened linguistic education (CAVALCANTI, 2013) and translanguaging pedagogy (GARCÍA, 2017). One of the key features of critical literacy is the concern with the human and non-human collective other in vulnerable social condition. The obstruction for disenfranchised communities, local language policy goals, exacerbating social inequities and violence seems never-ending. Much before the pandemic times, one side of society had been forcing unprivileged and disempowered communities to struggle for alternative ways to go on playing the game of life. To this end, innovative, participative and ethical education which places the self as responsible for the radical other, frequently an enemy, (LEVINAS, 2007) might enhance learning, unlearning and relearning. I conclude that such a perspective might expand the exercise of critical literacy (FREIRE, 2005), a condition to minimize the impacts of the crises in contemporary society. This research is part of my ongoing project entitled Linguistic-Cultural Education, Language Teaching, Technologies and productive Social Justice in Dilemmatic Times and it is linked to the National Project of Teacher Education1 through the theories of Critical Literacies, Multilteracies, New Literacies, coordinated by Walkyria Monte Mór and Lynn Mario Trindade Menezes de Souza. Following a bibliographic interpretive research methodology, this work comprises two moments. In the first one, it presents a brief outline of the already one with and for the other in contemporary scenario of online/offline learning, intertwined with the current educational Brazilian situation, going beyond (post)pandemic times, as life-long learning (ALHEIT, 2018). The second moment seeks to theorize on the contributions of Freire (2005), Levinas (1991, 1994, 2000, 2007, 2008, 2014) and Braidotti (2006, 2018, 2019) with more details on the second, bearing in mind the Levinasian ethics is apparently less approached in the applied field of linguistics and also due to the scope of this article. Neste painel, discutimos a relação 'letramento' e 'gênero textual', considerando a rica complexidade que envolve não apenas esses objetos teóricos mas também a sua aplicação no domínio pedagógico, particularmente no que diz respeito ao ensino-aprendizagem de língua materna. Vincularemos a discussão a nossa experiência de ensino, pesquisa e extensão desenvolvida em programas de formação de professores, voltados para a mobilização de práticas transdisciplinares de natureza colaborativa e fortalecedora da ação docente. Nessa direção, indicamos os projetos de letramento como uma alternativa para o desenvolvimento de um trabalho contextualizado com os gêneros textuais.Our contribution to this panel intends to discuss how 'literacy' and 'genres' are related, taking into account the complexity involving not only these two theoretical concepts, but also their implementation in the pedagogical domain, especially related to mother tongue learning-teaching. We intend to discuss that based on our experience in teaching, research and extension developed at teacher education programs aiming at transdisciplinary practices of colaborative and strengthening nature. To accomplish this task, we suggest literacy projects as an alternative to develop a contextualized work with genres.

Apresentamos uma pesquisa etnográfica sobre as contribuições das escolhas e usos de gêneros discursivos, em atividades escolares, para o desenvolvimento do letramento do aluno. Os resultados mostram que alguns gêneros selecionados são característicos da escola, pouco servindo de referência para as atividades interativas mediadas pela escrita em situações não relacionadas a práticas educacionais. A articulação entre as propostas de interdisciplinaridade e de letramento, desenvolvidas na ciência da educação e nos estudos aplicados da linguagem, respectivamente, podem contribuir de forma bastante significativa para o fortalecimento do aluno. Aqui, os projetos pedagógicos interdisciplinares são caracterizados como espaços linguístico-discursivos que contribuem para tal fortalecimento.We show an ethnographic research about the contributions of discursive genre choices and uses, in school activities, to the student literacy development. The results show that some chosen genres are school-related and do not contribute effectively to interactive activities mediated by writing in situations not connected to educational practices. The articulation between interdisciplinary and literacy approaches, developed in the education science and in language applied studies, respectively, can contribute significantly to the student empowerment. Here the interdisciplinary educational projects are characterized as linguistic-discursive locus of contribution to the empowerment mentioned.

Este trabalho discute a implementação de Rádios Escolares em escolas públicas da região do entorno da Universidade de Caxias do Sul como ferramentas de interação sociodiscursiva, visando estimular o protagonismo social das comunidades escolares envolvidas, bem como oferecer novos caminhos para a promoção do desenvolvimento e aprendizagem de crianças, jovens e adultos.In this work we present the experience of implementing radio stations in state schools in the city of Caxias do Sul - Brazil, as a tool for teaching and learning. The main goal of radios is to create the space for sociodiscursive interaction in order to stimulate the social protagonism in scholar communities involved in the project. The radio also showed as a different tool to enhance children, teenagers and adults learning.
