The concern about the illness of the inhabitants of the northeastern region resulting from droughts occurred cyclically, comes from the Brazil colony times and continue to the present day. Initially plagued droughts were mentees to settle on the banks of rivers to facilitate access to water and fishing. Nowadays they continue to support this as a priority, implemented in different ways. But fish farming is still one of them, whose works started with native species for over 80 years, has established itself as a landmark. For the importance of common curimatã to the backcountry, the LaGePe considered the species as a research priority and sought financial support through various projects until he left the CNPq Notice 81-2013. In this call was approved the project No. 487457/2013-7: "Development activities in research, teaching and extension for education and training of fishers and aquicultoras families in a agroecological production system of common Curimatã (Prochilodus cearaensis Steindachner, 1911)". The species was named by adapting and surviving the most varied climatic conditions of the region, contributing to feed and provide means for obtaining unemployment insurance (during the closed season) of artisanal fishermen settlers. The activities developed in the aforementioned project sought to stimulate skills, aptitudes, and awakening the fisherman's interest in fish farming and getting the fish, leading to an improved quality of life for their families. The results were encouraging and with possibilities of great scope, such as training in distance education; captive breeding and replacement of lost inventory during droughts; possibility of production in cages, aviaries and masonry tanks; and generate public policies that enable Brazilian institutions responsible for fisheries, guidance support to fishermen (fishwomen) craft.
