ABSTRACT Objectives: to assess the socio-cognitive factors determining adherence to standard precautions by nursing professionals in care practice during the COVID-19 pandemic in Brazil. Methods: an analytical cross-sectional study, carried out with 9,039 nursing professionals in Brazil, using an electronic form containing participant sociodemographic, training and work variables, and the Brazilian version of the Standard Precautions Questionnaire. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used using the statistical software R. Results: participants recognize standard precautions as effective measures to reduce infections and report intention to perform them. Training regarding standard precautions was evidenced as a facilitator of adherence (4.72; SD: 0.73), and problems related to materials (3.78; SD: 1.45) were a hindrance. Conclusions: among the determining factors, facilitating organization presented the highest score, followed by intention to perform. Facilitating and hindering factor identification makes it possible to develop intervention strategies to strengthen patient safety and reduce occupational risks among professionals.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to evaluate the risk of postoperative complications in cardiac patients. Methods: an evaluative study using the Tuman Score on medical records of 70 adult patients who underwent cardiac surgery at a University Hospital. The R for Windows software was used for the analyses. Descriptive statistics and bivariate analysis were employed to verify the association between the risk score and complications. The relative risk between the Tuman Score and postoperative complications was obtained through Quasi-Poisson regression, with a 95% confidence interval. Results: the majority of the patients were male (58.57%), aged between 41-64 years (50%), who underwent myocardial revascularization (50%). These patients were associated with a lower risk of postoperative complications (p=0.003), (p=0.008), and (p=0.000), respectively. High-risk patients had pulmonary complications (RR=1.32, p=0.002) and neurological complications (RR=1.20, p=0.047). Conclusions: preoperative risk assessment promotes qualified care to reduce postoperative complications.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to construct a Subcutaneous Hydration Device semi-functional prototype and gather initial information to improve this prototype design and realize its acceptance potential. Methods: a qualitative, descriptive and exploratory study, which used focus group, following the Technology Acceptance Model. The group was held at the Escola Superior de Enfermagem de Coimbra, Portugal, in December 2022, composed of nine participants from six different disciplinary areas, and followed thematic analysis. Results: four topics emerged associated with the device components: elastomeric infusion pump; needle/access device; clamp; administration set. From these topics, topics were triggered that highlighted: characteristics about the target population; ease of use and accessories; patient comfort and safety; and device application context. Final Considerations: the Subcutaneous Hydration Device semi-functional prototype is viable and interesting for the clinic. The results support its improvement and direct future investments for experimental studies.

ABSTRACT Objective: To describe the adherence to the sepsis protocol by obstetric nurses in the obstetric triage of a high-risk maternity reference center. Methods: This was a quantitative, documental, and retrospective study involving 105 pregnant women treated in obstetric triage under sepsis criteria. Data were collected through electronic medical records using structured forms and were organized into tables employing descriptive statistics. This research adhered to ethical principles concerning human studies. Results: Of the checklists for initiating the SEPSIS protocol by obstetric nurses, 105 were identified. Regarding the protocol steps performed, lactate was collected in 97.1% of cases and blood cultures in 98.1%, antibiotic therapy was administered in 94.3%, and hydration was carried out in 51.4% of the cases. Conclusion: The initiation of the sepsis protocol for all women meeting the criteria was confirmed. However, the steps were not fully implemented as recommended by the institutional protocol, and the recommended broad-spectrum antibiotic was not administered.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to analyze the vaccination situation against Mpox in people living with HIV/AIDS in Brazil. Methods: an ecological study on the vaccination status against Mpox in people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) in Brazil. The data were collected in April 2023 through information from the Ministry of Health, using the “Microsoft app Power BI,” which is publicly accessible. Results: the data analysis revealed that in Brazil, 2,978 doses of the MVA-BN Jynneos Mpox vaccine were administered in PLWHA, resulting in a vaccination coverage of 18.3%, with the southern and southeastern regions showing the lowest and highest vaccination coverage, respectively. Gender-based evaluation showed a higher proportion of vaccinated males. Conclusions: we identified low vaccination coverage in all regions of Brazil, highlighting the need for intensified vaccination activities, especially for PLWHA.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to synthesize knowledge regarding risk factors associated with occurrence of adverse event phlebitis in hospitalized adult patients. Methods: an integrative literature review, carried out in the CINAHL, PubMed, Virtual Health Library, Embase, Web of Science and Scopus databases. The stages were carried out independently by two reviewers, and the data were analyzed descriptively. Results: from the analysis of 31 quantitative primary studies, the following risk factors were summarized: length of stay; use of antibiotics; peripheral intravenous catheter dwell time; receive less nursing care; catheter inserted multiple times; patients with infection and comorbidities; presence of pain at catheter insertion site; Teflon® catheter use; reduced patient mobility; quality of patient’s vein; skin elasticity; unsuccessful insertion. Conclusions: it is necessary to standardize the format for measuring occurrence of this adverse event and develop new studies with a higher level of evidence.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to analyze the legislation issued during the COVID-19 pandemic for nursing education and immediate consequences. Methods: documentary research, whose source was the legislation issued for nursing education during the COVID-19 pandemic. Thirty-two documents were analyzed and submitted to a collection instrument. Results: contradictions and consequences for nursing education following the guidelines and law of guidelines and bases were revealed. The consequences of the law affected the quality of teaching, equal access, exemption from minimum school days and course abbreviation. Regarding the guidelines, there was a lack of conditions for developing skills, in addition to the attempt to update them. Concerning internships, acting during the pandemic put students at risk, and their abbreviation prevented them from consolidating knowledge and skills. Final Considerations: remote teaching did not guarantee the quality and equality of teaching, weakened the development of skills, not taking into account nursing’s educational needs.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to understand maternal perceptions of maternal and child well-being based on Shantala massage and discuss its association with the third Sustainable Development Goal. Methods: a descriptive-exploratory study in the light of Symbolic Interactionism. Eight women, mothers of infants, participated in five online meetings to teach Shantala massage, collected in focus groups, between November and December 2021. The data was subjected to thematic content analysis and lexical analysis with IRAMUTEQ®. Results: two categories emerged, 1) Maternal perceptions of Shantala massage and its promotion of child well-being and 2) Maternal perceptions of Shantala massage and its impact on their well-being, interconnected with subcategories. Final Considerations: Shantala massage promoted mutual impacts on maternal and child well-being, working together to achieve the third Sustainable Development Goal.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to construct and assess an educational video to promote the adherence of women with pelvic organ prolapse to vaginal pessary use. Methods: this is a methodological study, with a longitudinal design and quantitative analysis. The pre-production (synopsis, argument, script, storyboard), production and post-production stages were covered. Content and technical assessments were carried out by judges from the health and communication areas, respectively, and appearance assessment by the target audience. Results: the video was the first to be developed on the topic on the national scene, considered assessed from the point of view of appearance and content, presenting an overall Content Validity Index of 0.99 and a level of agreement among judges of 91.1% to 100%. Assessment by the target audience reached a percentage of 96% to 100%. Conclusions: the educational video is an instrument capable of promoting adherence to pessary in women indicated for this therapeutic approach.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to identify trans women’s and men’s knowledge about the adverse effects of cross-hormonization and understand the repercussions of hormonization practices on trans women’s and men’s health. Methods: exploratory, descriptive, qualitative research, developed with 41 participants, from July 2019 to February 2020, in a trans health outpatient clinic. Thematic-categorical content analysis was used. Results: from the analysis, the categories emerged: Knowledge about the adverse effects of cross-hormonization; and Cross-hormonization practices and their meaning. Final Considerations: nursing practices, based on the identification of knowledge about adverse effects and the understanding of cross-hormonization practices in trans women’s and men’s health, can result in more inclusive care.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to adapt and validate the content of the Healthy Work Environment Assessment Tool for Brazilian culture, and evaluate the practical aspects of its application. Methods: methodological study that followed six stages: translation; synthesis; back translation; content validation by a group of experts, pre-testing and approval of the process by the author of the original instrument. Results: the first three stages were carried out by contracted companies. In the committee, two items and the title of a subscale were evaluated in a second round, when consensus was reached among experts. In the pre-test, more than 93% of professionals agreed that the tool was easy to understand. The average completion time was 8.53 minutes. The American Association of Critical-Care Nurses authorized publication of the results. Conclusions: the adaptation of the tool to Brazilian culture was completed following the adopted framework. In addition to the evidence of content validity, the tool appears promising for managerial use.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to correlate the development of Burnout Syndrome in higher education professors with the following variables: sociodemographic, economic, work, sleep pattern, level of anxiety and quality of life. Methods: observational, analytical, cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach. Data collection took place from August to November 2022, with 140 professors from a private higher education institution in the Western Brazilian Amazon. Results: professors who carried out activities outside institutional hours and who had sleep duration < 5 hours, presented lower scores in the personal fulfillment dimension of burnout, with (p=0.002) and (p=0.001), respectively. The higher the scores for the physical (p=0.001), psychological (p=0.000) and social relationships (p=0.002) domains of quality of life, the lower the personal fulfillment scores for the syndrome. Conclusions: through linear regression, it was evidenced that several variables explain the development of burnout. Institutional and governmental actions can minimize the negative influence of these variables.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to map the nursing theories developed in stricto sensu graduate programs in nursing in Brazil. Methods: a bibliometric study, carried out on the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel Theses and Dissertations Portal in October 2023. The controlled descriptors “Nursing Theory” and “Nursing Models” and the uncontrolled descriptors “Theories” and “Middle-Range Theory” were used. Selected studies were cataloged for analysis, which was conducted by the study authors, who have a doctoral degree and expertise in research on nursing theories. Results: thirty-nine nursing theories were mapped, with a predominance of middle-range theories (79.5%), focusing on nursing diagnostic concepts and use of the theoretical-methodology strategy of theoretical-causal validity. Conclusions: the study identified nursing theories developed in Brazil, recognizing trends, development strategies, theorized objects of disciplinary interest and investments necessary for practical application in Brazilian contexts.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to construct and validate the content of a checklist for the management of totally implanted catheters in hospitalized children and adolescents. Methods: methodological research conducted from October 2021 to December 2022 in two stages: development of the instrument with care guidelines and content validation of the checklist. The instrument, containing 23 items presented in Likert format, was evaluated online by specialists in two rounds. The Content Validity Index was applied, considering indices above 0.8 as valid. Results: the final checklist included four domains and 22 checklist items, validated with a Content Validity Index of 0.98. The overall evaluation of the instrument presented a global score of 9.9. Conclusions: the validation and application of instruments that standardize procedures, in addition to supporting professionals, promote autonomy and quality of care for children and adolescents using this device.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to develop a middle-range theory of the existential dimension of being-in-the-world of chronic kidney disease in the light of humanistic nursing theory. Methods: exploratory-descriptive, qualitative, Grounded Theory study, whose guiding question was: what theoretical relationships can be established between clinical practice carried out in the context of renal replacement therapies and the concepts of humanistic nursing theory? Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with nursing staff and chronic kidney disease patients. Results: a theory was developed that describes and explains the existential dimension of being-in-the-world of chronic kidney disease, identifying the qualitative evidence present in this context. Final Considerations: the theory contributes to clinical nursing practice qualification in nephrology, consolidating nursing as an art and science, because it arises from care practice and research, in addition to rescuing what differentiates it within the health disciplines, which is care par excellence.

ABSTRACT Objective: To analyze reflective practice in the teaching-learning process of nurses in residency programs in teaching hospitals in Minas Gerais, Brazil. Methods: Case study, based on the reflective practice framework, conducted in two teaching hospitals. Observation and interviews were conducted with first and second-year residents, and five participants were included for in-depth analysis, with their data subjected to frequency distribution analysis and Critical Discourse Analysis. Results: In 519 observed activities, elements of reflection were identified in 22.2%, especially active listening and expression of doubts. Discourses indicated practice as the best moment for teaching-learning due to its potential to generate reflections. Learning by doing and case discussion were considered potential strategies for reflective learning. Conclusion: Know-in-action reflection was evidenced as the predominant formative aspect for residents, with few opportunities for reflection on reflection-in-action.

ABSTRACT Objective: to analyze the association between burnout and sociodemographic, work factors, lifestyle habits and health conditions of military police officers in a municipality in the state of Paraná, Brazil. Method: cross-sectional research with 131 military police officers. Data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences software and the R program. Chi-square, Fisher’s exact and Poisson Generalized Linear Model tests were used. Results: most participants (65.6%) had a high level of burnout. In relation to protective factors, those who carried out leisure activities had a 33.6% chance of not developing burnout. Conjugality was also a protective factor. Not practicing physical activity and leisure activities are factors that can contribute to the occurrence of burnout. Conclusions: important factors and high rates of burnout were observed in the police officers investigated. It is necessary to implement public health policies to reduce burnout with attention focused on this professional category.

ABSTRACT Objective: to identify the scientific evidence available in national and international literature on the relationships between nursing students’ mindfulness and emotional regulation. Methods: an integrative literature review, in four databases, with a time frame from January 2002 to December 2022. Articles in English, Spanish and Portuguese available in full were included. Results: the sample consisted of six original articles, predominantly with a quantitative approach, with cross-sectional designs standing out. Conclusion: the synthesis of scientific production revealed that there is a lack of research at national and international level on the subject with experimental and qualitative designs that enable conclusions about cause and effect and/or take into account subjective experiences of the applicability of mindfulness-based practice in nursing students’ emotional regulation.

ABSTRACT Objective: to analyze the physical and psychological changes of the COVID-19 infodemic for the older adult population of Rio de Janeiro. Method: a cross-sectional, web-based survey to find out about access to news and information about COVID-19 among older adult in Rio de Janeiro, between July and December 2020. Univariate analysis and bivariate analysis were carried out using non-parametric statistical methods. Results: 390 older adults took part, predominantly female (75.1%), aged between 66 and 75 (35.4%), married (51.0%), white (60.3%), owning their own home (81.8%), located in urban areas (91%), with complete or incomplete primary education (31.8%) and retired or pensioners (79.2%). ABSTRACT Objective: to reflect on the perspectives of adopting the Progress Test in undergraduate nursing education. Methods: this is a reflective study, based on authors’ critical thinking and supported by national and international literature on the Progress Test application in undergraduate health courses. Results: the Progress Test is as a valuable teaching-learning strategy, with potential applications and benefits for students, professors, and academic management. Final considerations: systematic nursing education assessment indicates valuable information for different stakeholders. Understanding its potential benefits, the Progress Test is presented as a strategy that can be replicated in undergraduate nursing education, either individually, by institutions, or collaboratively, by the establishment of partnerships or consortiums of institutions.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to evaluate the relative risk of smoking cessation treatment dropout during its intensive phase. Methods: a retrospective and quantitative cohort study was developed from the electronic medical records of individuals who started smoking cessation treatment between 2015 and 2019 at a specialty clinic in a city in the interior of São Paulo, Brazil. The relative risk of dropping out of treatment was calculated using the Poisson regression model. Results: it was observed that out of the 396 (100.0%) individuals who started the treatment, 109 (27.5%) abandoned it before the end of the intensive phase. For each one-year increase in age, the risk of dropping out of smoking cessation treatment decreased by an average of 2%. Conclusions: the risk of dropping out of smoking cessation treatment is higher among younger individuals. It is necessary to rethink the care offered to younger adults to promote the continuity of treatment.

ABSTRACT Objective: to investigate excessive daytime sleepiness prevalence among nursing technicians and the association with sleep quality and memory. Methods: a cross-sectional, inferential study, carried out in a hospital unit in the state of Goiás between December 2020 and January 2021. Assessments were carried out using the Epworth Sleepiness Scale, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index and the Prospective and Retrospective Memory Questionnaire, instruments validated for the Brazilian context. Bivariate and multivariate logistic regression analyzes were performed. Results: the sample consisted of 189 nursing technicians with a 40.9% excessive daytime sleepiness prevalence. In multivariate models, excessive daytime sleepiness was not associated with sleep quality, however there was a significant association with overall memory failures. Conclusions: study results demonstrate a high excessive daytime sleepiness occurrence, an association with overall memory failures and the need for psychosocial interventions for nursing technicians.

ABSTRACT Objective: to map scientific evidence regarding the use of local pressure devices in pain relief during injection procedures in patients. Methods: scoping review, following the recommendations of the JBI Manual for Evidence Synthesis and PRISMA-ScR, with searches conducted in the PubMed, EMBASE, CINAHL, LILACS, and PsycINFO databases, without temporal restrictions and with a cutoff date of March 2023. Results: a total of 1,514 studies were identified, with 20 articles included in the final sample. The ShotBlocker® device was utilized during subcutaneous and intramuscular injections in children and adults, proving beneficial in reducing pain, anxiety, and fear associated with the procedure. Final considerations: the ShotBlocker® is a low-cost, easy-to-use device that can enhance nursing clinical practice during painful procedures. However, studies involving the Brazilian Pikluc® device are scarce. Further research involving both local pressure devices is recommended.

ABSTRACT Objectives: To analyze nurses’ perspectives on nurses’ work methods in the hospital context. Methods: A descriptive study with a qualitative approach was conducted in a hospital in northern Portugal, involving 17 nurses. Semi-structured interviews were used for data collection. Data collected between May and June 2023 underwent content analysis, supported by Atlas.ti software. Results: Three thematic areas emerged: “Nurses’ work methods in a hospital context,” highlighting the conception and components of work methods and the methods in use; “Implementation of nurses’ work methods,” emphasizing influencing factors and challenges to implementation; and “Impact of nurses’ work methods on patients, nurses, and institutions.” Final Considerations: Nurses’ work methods constitute the structure of nursing care. Some factors influence and some challenges arise in the implementation of these methods, producing impacts on patients, nurses, and institutions.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to identify and synthesize, from the literature, the impacts of physical disability caused by leprosy on the quality of life of individuals receiving care within the Health Care Network. Methods: this is a scoping review conducted following the JBI recommendations. The databases used in the search included the Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, Lilacs, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, Scopus, Embase, Leprosy Information Services, and Google Scholar. Results: 1690 documents were identified, of which 36 were included in the review. Physical disability caused by leprosy affects the quality of life in the areas of daily activities, socioeconomic aspects, psychological well-being, pain, and overall well-being. Conclusions: we identified the impairments caused by physical disability in the quality of life, highlighting the need for prevention, promotion, and rehabilitation actions, such as screening, case management, and health education.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to validate the content of an instrument for assessing leprosy care in individuals under 15 years old in the context of Primary Health Care. Methods: methodological study of content validation, based on the evaluation of essential and derived attributes in primary care, in the professional version. For data analysis, the Content Validation Index (CVI ≥ 0.8) and Cronbach’s Alpha were calculated. Results: a higher percentage of judges among nurses (61.5%) was observed; with a doctorate (46.2%), and engaged in teaching and research (77%). The overall Content Validation Index of the instrument was 0.98. In the analysis of Cronbach’s Alpha of the instrument, the assigned value was 0.717. Conclusions: the instrument represents an advancement in the measurement of health evaluation policies and can significantly contribute to improving the quality of care provided to children and adolescents with leprosy.

ABSTRACT Objective: to evaluate the quality of life at work of health professionals in direct and indirect care of COVID-19 cases. Methods: this was a cross-sectional study with 156 health professionals from a referral hospital. The relationship between sociodemographic and work-related variables and perceived stress and domains of the Quality of Life at Work Scale was investigated using inferential statistics and regression. Results: Satisfaction with Compassion was moderate (mean: 38.2), with low perception of stress, Burnout and Secondary Traumatic Stress (means: 18.8, 21.6 and 19.1). There were associations between: education, salary, multiple jobs and direct care with Compassion Satisfaction; low income, being a nurse and working overtime with Burnout; and working more than 12 hours, underlying disease and hospitalization for COVID-19 with Secondary Traumatic Stress. Conclusion: quality of life at work was satisfactory, despite the presence of Burnout and Secondary Traumatic Stress.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to describe the validity process of the TBApp mobile application for self-care management for people with tuberculosis linked to Primary Health Care. Methods: methodological research developed with ten expert judges, carried out virtually. The application was assessed in relation to content and technology quality in seven domains (objectivity; structure and appearance; relevance; functionality; reliability; usability; and efficiency), using an instrument with a Likert scale. Results: TBApp was considered valid, relevant, functional, reliable and effective by expert judges. The objectives, structure and presentation and relevance domains presented an overall Content Validity Index of 0.93, and the functionality, reliability, usability and efficiency domains presented characteristics and sub-characteristics values greater than 0.80. Conclusions: TBApp is a creative and innovative tool that can be used by people with TB and disseminated in the scientific community.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to assess the physical and mental components of nursing professionals’ quality of life and associate them with individual, health and work characteristics. Methods: cross-sectional research, with nursing professionals from a university hospital in São Paulo. Own questionnaire and validated instruments were applied. Results: the overall quality of life was compromised. The physical component was lower in relation to low family income and among those who perceived greater control/pressure at work, and better for those who practiced physical activity and had support of leader and organization. The mental component was lower in professionals who reported dissatisfaction with work, worse self-rated physical health and were older. Scores for both components reduced due to work-related illnesses, worse work ability and increased daytime sleepiness. Conclusions: quality of life was statistically associated with controllable institutional factors and individual resources that, except age, can be promoted.

ABSTRACT Objective: to understand the bioethical perspectives on mobile tracking device use. Methods: theoretical study based on action research, carried out with eight graduate students from a public university. A focus group was used, with a thematic content analysis methodology with a codebook structure, approved by the Research Ethics Committee. Results: from the analysis, there was a concern about using devices after the pandemic ended. Using or not the device, rights inherent to humans, legislation and effectiveness of methods deepen interpretations, moving participants from a personalistic conception of the topic to a vision focused on professional implications about the methods. Final considerations: the debate on the impact of using technological devices on health, especially those that imply restriction of rights that refer to individuals’ private life, involves a discussion of a professional nature, in addition to requirement for clear rules on the topic.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to investigate the factors influencing vaccine hesitancy against COVID-19 among Brazilians. Methods: this research employed an observational and analytical approach, utilizing a web-based survey. Data collection took place in 2020, and data analysis was conducted using structural equation modeling. Results: the prevalence of vaccine hesitancy was found to be 27.5% (1182 individuals). There is a negative correlation between belief in conspiracy theories and social influence. Among the various beliefs associated with vaccination intentions, only conspiracy beliefs exhibited significant predictive value. Thus, the findings suggest that personal beliefs significantly impact hesitancy towards vaccination, and also indicate that trust in governmental bodies is inversely related to hesitancy. Conclusions: vaccine hesitancy emerges as a multifaceted phenomenon influenced by a complex array of factors, including personal beliefs, trust in governmental bodies, and healthcare systems.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to map the educational actions conducted with primary health care professionals during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: a scoping review conducted in August 2023, which covered databases such as CINAHL, Medline, LILACS, IBECS, BDENF, and Web of Science. In total, 32 publications were analyzed through content analysis. Results: the primary beneficiaries of the educational actions included 69% physicians, 56% nurses, 25% pharmacists, 13% social workers and dentists, 9% psychologists, community health agents, and laboratory professionals, and 6% nursing technicians, nutritionists, and physical educators. The predominant educational interventions were training sessions (mentioned in 19 publications), followed by Continuing Health Education (10 publications) and Continuing Education (three publications). Final Considerations: the educational interventions demonstrated positive impacts on professional practice, particularly the Continuing Health Education actions, which were notable for stimulating critical problem-solving among professionals.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to identify the repercussions of financial toxicity on the lives of adult cancer patients during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: an integrative review was conducted using the PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, and Embase databases, as well as the Virtual Health Library portal, in March 2023. Results: out of 62 studies found, 13 were included for analysis. The primary repercussions of financial toxicity included difficulties in covering basic expenses such as food, housing, medication, transportation, and internet access; increased anxiety and concerns related to health and financial situations; reduction or absence of income; challenges in obtaining treatment or accessing healthcare services; rising expenses; and telemedicine as a less burdensome alternative. Conclusions: the pandemic has exacerbated financial toxicity; therefore, healthcare teams must recognize it as an adverse event of oncological treatment and understand its potential to affect various aspects of patients’ lives.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to identify professors’ leadership styles and personal values. Methods: a quantitative, descriptive-exploratory study. Population was made up of professors in doctoral category 1 at a public university in the state of São Paulo. Data collection took place from June to August 2021. Sociodemographic characterization was extracted, and the Leadership Team Values Assessment was applied. Data were analyzed using measures of central tendency. Results: population included 13 professors. The level that represents authentic leadership was the most prevalent. The commitment, positive attitude and trust values stood out. The level portrayed by visionary leadership was the least identified. Conclusions: professors’ personal values provide a theoretical basis for guiding and analyzing professors’ leadership styles. Leadership in the educational context must be recognized and studied to promote a more comprehensive and effective approach to developing and improving educational leaders.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to evaluate the factors associated with COVID-19 death in pregnant women hospitalized in Intensive Care Units in Brazil. Methods: this ecological study was conducted using secondary data from Brazilian pregnant women with COVID-19 hospitalized in Intensive Care Units between March 2020 and March 2022. Univariate analysis and logistic regression were employed. Results: out of 3,547 pregnant women with COVID-19 hospitalized in Intensive Care Units, 811 died (22.8%). It was found that lack of COVID-19 vaccination (OR: 2.73; 95% CI: 1.83; 4.04), dyspnea (OR: 1.73; 95% CI: 1.17; 2.56), obesity (OR: 1.51; 95% CI: 1.05; 2.17), chronic cardiovascular disease (OR: 1.65; 95% CI: 1.14; 2.38), and non-white race/color (OR: 1.29; 95% CI: 1.00; 1.66) were independently and significantly associated with death. Conclusions: it is concluded that vaccination status, presence of comorbidities, and clinical and ethnic-racial characteristics are associated with COVID-19 death in pregnant women hospitalized in Intensive Care Units in Brazil.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to investigate the influence of the leukoreduction moment (preor post-storage) of blood components on the clinical outcomes of patients transfused in the emergency department. Methods: retrospective cohort study of patients aged 18 years or older who received preor post-storage leukoreduced red blood cell or platelet concentrate in the emergency department and remained in the institution for more than 24 hours. A generalized mixed-effects model was applied in the analyses. Results: in a sample of 373 patients (63.27% male, mean age 54.83) and 643 transfusions (69.98% red blood cell), it was identified that the leukoreduction moment influenced the length of hospital stay (p0.050) on transfusion reactions, healthcare-associated infections, or mortality. Conclusions: patients who received pre-storage leukoreduced blood components in the emergency department had a shorter length of hospital stay.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to construct and assess an educational technology for managing patient waiting lists for multidisciplinary training. Methods: study supported by Instructional Design - ADDIE model, whose stages of construction of educational technology were developed in the form of a multi-professional training course. Its respective content assessment was carried out by a committee of experts from 2021 to 2022. The analysis occurred based on the proportion of content adequacy with 95% Confidence Interval. Results: seventeen products were created as educational technology learning objects: five storyboards; four videos; three comic books; two pedagogical action plans; a mind map; and a YouTube® playlist. Nine experts assessed content adequacy, which reached 0.89. Conclusions: this educational technology contributes to the performance of professionals who manage waiting lists by reducing inequalities, alleviating differences, in addition to promoting equity in care and good health for patients in the Brazilian Health System.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to develop and evaluate a Middle-Range Theory for the nursing diagnosis “Disrupted Mother-Fetus Dyad Risk” in high-risk pregnancies. Methods: this methodological study was conducted in two stages: theory development and evaluation. Dorothea Orem’s General Nursing Model was used as the theoretical-conceptual foundation. Evaluation was conducted using the Delphi method with seven judges, and consensus was achieved when the Content Validity Index of the evaluated items was ≥ 0.80. Results: the theory identified 20 elements of the nursing diagnosis “Disrupted Mother-Fetus Dyad Risk” (10 risk factors, 4 at-risk populations, and 6 associated conditions), 14 propositions, and 1 pictogram. After two rounds of evaluation, the theory was considered consistent, with consensus reached for all items, each achieving a Content Validity Index ≥ 0.80. Conclusions: the Middle-Range Theory included biopsychosocial factors explaining the nursing phenomenon “Disrupted Mother-Fetus Dyad Risk,” which aids in nurses’ diagnostic reasoning.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to understand the role of Primary Health Care teams in caring for people with stroke after hospital discharge. Methods: single case study, with integrated units of analysis, with a qualitative approach. Data triangulation occurred through interviews with professionals and family caregivers involved in transition of care, in addition to direct observations in rounds and document analysis. For the analyses, the analytical strategies of theoretical propositions and construction of explanations were used, with the help of ATLAS.ti®. Results: the importance of counter-referral, the role of community health workers and the multidisciplinary team, health promotion, secondary prevention, home visits as a visceral attribute and nurses as care managers are evident. Final Considerations: the high demand on teams and the Social Determinants of Health interfere with adequate continuity of care. Transitional care programs that enable continuity of care are recommended.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to analyze the validity evidence of the internal structure of the Risk Self-Medication Questionnaire Focused on Health Literacy. Methods: a psychometric study with 499 adults. The internal structure was assessed with exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis to prove the adjustment. Internal consistency was measured by composite reliability and McDonald’s omega coefficient (ω). ABSTRACT Objective: To describe the possibility of applying Fuzzy Logic in analyzing the vulnerability of Women Who Have Sex with Women to Sexually Transmitted Infections/HIV/AIDS. Methods: We developed a Fuzzy Logic system with 17 input variables and one output variable, using data related to vulnerability in a municipality located in the Midwest region of the State of São Paulo, Brazil. Results: The factor with the greatest positive impact was the confirmation that a low understanding of Sexually Transmitted Infections/HIV/AIDS is associated with higher vulnerability. Conversely, the statement “Not disclosing sexual activity to healthcare professionals,” where individuals do not admit to having sex with women, had the least impact. Conclusions: Fuzzy Logic facilitates the identification of vulnerability, expressed through the analysis of interaction between variables in each dimension. This makes it a promising method to assist in analyzing the vulnerability of specific populations.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to map available evidence on telenursing use in the postoperative period and its impact on patient outcomes. Methods: a scoping review, conducted according to the JBI model and the PRISMA-ScR checklist. The search was carried out in the CINAHL, Embase, LILACS, PubMed, Web of Science, SciELO, Scopus and Cochrane Library databases. Results: twelve studies were included, published between 2011 and 2023, 66.6% of which were in developed countries. Of the positive outcomes, we highlight improved levels of disability, autonomy and quality of life, lower rates of post-operative complications, pain and reduced costs. Telephone monitoring was the most widely used modality, but there were few studies in the pediatric context and in Brazil. Conclusions: of the studies, 11 (91.6%) identified at least one positive outcome in telenursing use and none showed negative aspects in the postoperative period. The role of nurses in digital health needs further study.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to identify in the literature the main nursing diagnoses according to the NANDA-I diagnostic classification for people hospitalized with heart failure. Methods: an integrative literature review, carried out in February 2019 and updated in July 2023, in the MEDLINE via PubMed, LILACS, SciELO and CINAHL databases. Given the use of acronym PEO, studies without a time cut in Portuguese, English and Spanish were included. Descriptive analysis was carried out to present the identified information. Results: analysis of 27 articles identified 24 nursing diagnoses, with emphasis on Decreased Cardiac Output, Excessive Fluid Volume, Decreased Activity Tolerance and Fatigue. Final Considerations: evidence can contribute to better diagnostic decisions centered on people with heart failure in search of more assertive health results and have the potential to support future studies on a possible syndromic pattern in this population.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to reflect on theoretical framework use in nursing research. Methods: a theoretical-reflexive study, based on concepts and constructs pertinent to using nursing theories and other sciences, considering issues of epistemology or philosophy of science. Results: we presented what it is and why to do nursing research and what a theoretical framework is and why to use it, in addition to some considerations regarding theoretical framework use in nursing research, essential for constructing disciplinary knowledge, which enables the materialization of researchers’ work and the presentation of propositions resulting from investigations in and for nursing as a discipline and science. Final Considerations: based on a reflection based on epistemological conceptions, it is possible to affirm that a theoretical framework is the core of researchers’ thinking, delimiting a problem to be investigated and, based on it, outlining methodological strategies to be followed, supporting nursing action and thinking as discipline and science.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to evaluate software technical quality for collecting data from patients under palliative care. Methods: this is methodological technology evaluation research, according to the technical standard International Organization for Standardization/International Electrotechnical Commission 25040-2011, developed from August 2021 to August 2023. Eight nurses and eight information technology professionals participated as judges, who evaluated six quality characteristics and 23 subcharacteristics. Items that reached a percentage of agreement greater than 70% were considered suitable. Results: the characteristics evaluated by nurses/information technology professionals received the following percentages of agreement, respectively: functional suitability (94%-84%); reliability (100-70%); usability (89.9-66.8%); performance efficiency (95.8%-86.1%); compatibility (95.8-79.6%); and safety (96%-83.4%). Conclusions: the software was considered suitable in quality evaluation to offer support to nurses in collecting patient data under palliative care, with the potential to operationalize the first Nursing Process stage.

ABSTRACT Objective: To identify the manifestations presented by parents of children and adolescents who require special health attention that can impact their mental health. Methods: exploratory, qualitative research, based on the concept of vulnerability, with data collection carried out through interviews with 18 parents of children and adolescents with special health care needs, hospitalized in the pediatric ward of a hospital in Paraná, between May/2017 and May/ 2018. Data analyzed by inductive thematic analysis. Results: parents experienced situations of vulnerability when providing care at home, with repercussions on their mental health, expressed by manifestations of lack of protection, anxiety and depression. Final considerations: It is important that health professionals seek to expand actions to promote care and reduce situations that generate threats, insecurities, concerns and damage to the health of parents, which can impact and further weaken care for children and adolescents who need attention especially health.
