This paper establishes an experimental evaluation method for the solidification strength of mud cake. This evaluation method is presented by using the principle of Vicat’s instrument for testing the setting time of cement, and a solidified mud cake strength evaluation device is established. A pressure sensor is used to record the failure strength of solidified mud cake during the test process. A model for the relationship between the ultimate force of the mud cake and the mud cake strength value is established and analyzed by ABAQUS, thereby the quantification of the cake solidification strength is realized. The evaluation method can scientifically evaluate the curing strength of mud cakes and lay a foundation for the research of mud cake solidification technology. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Based on the investigation and analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of the evaluation methods of the self-healing cement from domestic and abroad investigation, with the combination of the healing mechanism of oil-swellable additive material developed in laboratory, this paper explores the way of artificial gap in cement stone and the evaluation device of the cement self-healing properties by the experiments. Finally, a device and a method for evaluating the self-healing properties of cement indoors are designed. Taking the plugging pressure as an index and analyzing the impacts of the amount of oil-swellable additive material and fracture geometry on the self-healing properties of cement, the feasibility of the device and method are proved. This research paper not only provides a simple and easily-operating device for the research of the self-healing cementing technology and the development of the self-healing materials but also enriches the existing evaluation methods of the self-healing cement performance. The weight loss of the cement slurry is one of the main causes of the oil and gas well annular channeling after cementing. The volume shrinkage of the cement slurry caused by the fluid loss has a great effect on the weight loss of the cement slurry. However, the experimental setup designed for the measurement of the cement slurry weight loss could not satisfy this situation. Therefore, a new experimental setup was designed to realize this. The principle of the measurement for the cement slurry fluid loss was used for a reference. The filter screen of the filtration instrument which could simulate the formation was introduced in the new setup to simulate the permeable wall of a well. The test result was more consistent with the site actual. Furthermore, this new setup could achieve the automatic data acquisition during the whole test process, which is very beneficial to the operation and the data processing. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
