Soil moisture data with both a fine spatial scale and a short global repeat period would benefit many hydrologic and climatic applications. Since the radar transmitter malfunctioned on NASA's Soil Moisture Active Passive (SMAP) in 2015, SMAP soil moisture has been downscaled using numerous alternative fine-resolution data. In this paper, we describe the creation and validation of a new downscaled 3 km soil moisture dataset, which is the culmination of previous work. We downscaled SMAP enhanced 9 km brightness temperatures by merging them with L-band Cyclone Global Navigation Satellite System (CYGNSS) reflectivity data, using a modified version of the SMAP active–passive brightness temperature algorithm. We then calculated 3 km SMAP/CYGNSS soil moisture using the resulting 3 km SMAP/CYGNSS brightness temperatures and the SMAP single-channel vertically polarized soil moisture algorithm (SCA-V). To remedy the sparse daily coverage of CYGNSS data at a 3 km spatial resolution, we used spatially interpolated CYGNSS data to downscale SMAP soil moisture. 3 km interpolated SMAP/CYGNSS soil moisture matches the SMAP repeat period of ~2–3 days, providing a soil moisture dataset with both a fine spatial scale and a short repeat period. 3 km interpolated SMAP/CYGNSS soil moisture, upscaled to 9 km, has an average correlation of 0.82 and an average unbiased root mean square difference (ubRMSD) of 0.035 cm3/cm3 using all SMAP 9 km core validation sites (CVSs) within ±38° latitude. The observed (not interpolated) SMAP/CYGNSS soil moisture did not perform as well at the SMAP 9 km CVSs, with an average correlation of 0.68 and an average ubRMSD of 0.048 cm3/cm3. A sensitivity analysis shows that CYGNSS reflectivity is likely responsible for most of the uncertainty in downscaled SMAP/CYGNSS soil moisture. The success of 3 km SMAP/CYGNSS soil moisture demonstrates that Global Navigation Satellite System–Reflectometry (GNSS-R) observations are effective for downscaling soil moisture. The maintenance of photovoltaic (PV) power plants is of central importance for their yield. To reach higher efficiencies in PV parks, it is helpful to detect soiling such as dust deposition and to apply this information to optimize cleaning strategies. Furthermore, a periodic inspection of the PV modules with infrared (IR) imagery is of advantage to detect and potentially remove faulty PV modules. Soiling can be erroneously interpreted as PV module defects and hence spatially resolved soiling measurements can improve the results of IR-based PV inspection. So far, soiling measurements are mostly performed only locally in PV fields, thus not supporting the above-mentioned IR inspections. This study presents a method for measuring the soiling of PV modules at cell resolution using RGB images taken by aerial drones under sunny conditions. The increase in brightness observed for soiled cells under evaluation, compared to clean cells, is used to calculate the transmission loss of the soiling layer. Photos of a clean PV module and a soiled module for which the soiling loss is measured electrically are used to determine the relation between the brightness increase and the soiling loss. To achieve this, the irradiance at the time of the image acquisitions and the viewing geometry are considered. The measurement method has been validated with electrical measurements of the soiling loss yielding root mean square deviations in the 1% absolute range. The Arctic is one of the most important regions in the world's oceans for understanding the impacts of a changing climate. Yet, it is also difficult to measure because of extreme weather and ice conditions. In this work, we directly compare four datasets from the Group for High-Resolution Sea Surface Temperature (GHRSST) with a NASA Saildrone deployment along the Alaskan Coast and the Bering Sea and Bering Strait. The four datasets used are the Remote Sensing Systems Microwave Infrared Optimally Interpolated (MWIR) product, the Canadian Meteorological Center (CMC) product, the Daily Optimally Interpolated Product (DOISST), and the Operational Sea Surface Temperature and Ice Analysis (OSTIA) product. Spatial sea surface temperature (SST) gradients were derived for both the Saildrone deployment and GHRSST products, with the GHRSST products collocated with the Saildrone deployment. Overall, statistics indicate that the OSTIA product had a correlation of 0.79 and a root mean square difference of 0.11 °C/km when compared with Saildrone. CMC had the highest correlation of 0.81. Scatter plots indicate that OSTIA had the slope closest to one, thus best reproducing the magnitudes of the Saildrone gradients. Differences increased at latitudes > 65°N where sea ice would have a greater impact. A trend analysis was then performed on the gradient fields. Overall, positive trends in gradients occurred in areas along the coastal regions. A negative trend occurred at approximately 60°N. A major finding of this study is that future work needs to revolve around the impact of changing ice conditions on SST gradients. Another major finding is that a northward shift in the southern ice edge occurred after 2010 with a maxima at approximately 2019. This indicates that the shift of the southern ice edge is not gradual but has dramatically increased over the last decade. The Haiyang-2D (HY2D) satellite is the fourth ocean dynamics environment monitoring satellite launched by China. The satellite operates on a re-entry frozen orbit, which necessitates orbital maneuvers to maintain its designated path once the satellite's sub-satellite point deviates beyond a certain threshold. However, the execution of orbit maneuvers presents a significant challenge to the field of Precise Orbit Determination (POD). The thesis selects the on-board GPS data of HY2D satellite in December 2023 and five maneuvering days of that year. Employing a multifaceted approach that includes the assessment of observational data quality, orbit overlap, external orbit validation, and SLR (Satellite Laser Ranging) verification, the research delves into precise orbit determination during both maneuver and non-maneuver periods. The results indicate that: (1) The average number of satellites tracked by the receiver is 6.4; (2) During the non-maneuver periods, the average RMS (Root Mean Square) value of the radial difference in the 6-h overlapping arc segment is 0.66 cm, and the three-dimensional position difference is about 1.16 cm; (3) When compared with the precision science orbits (PSO) provided by CNES (Centre National d'Études Spatiales), the average values of the RMS values of the differences in the radial (R), transverse (T), and normal (N) directions during the non-maneuver and maneuver periods are respectively 1.32 cm, 2.31 cm, 1.92 cm and 3.04 cm, 8.78 cm, 2.72 cm. (4) The SLR verification of the orbit revealed a residual RMS of 2.24 cm. Over several decades, high-frequency (HF) radars have been employed for remotely measuring various ocean surface parameters, encompassing surface currents, waves, and winds. Wind direction and speed are usually estimated from both first-order and second-order Bragg-resonant scatter from two or more HF radars monitoring the same area of the ocean surface. This limits the observational domain to the common area where second-order scatter is available from at least two radars. Here, we propose to estimate wind direction and speed from the first-order scatter of a single HF radar, yielding the same spatial coverage as for surface radial currents. Wind direction is estimated using the ratio of the positive and negative first-order Bragg peaks intensity, with a new simple algorithm to remove the left/right directional ambiguity from a single HF radar. Wind speed is estimated from wind direction and de-tided surface radial currents using an artificial neural network which has been trained with in situ wind speed observations. Radar-derived wind estimations are compared with in situ observations in the Lower Saint-Lawrence Estuary (Quebec, Canada). The correlation coefficients between radar-estimated and in situ wind directions range from 0.84 to 0.95 for Wellen Radars (WERAs) and from 0.79 to 0.97 for Coastal Ocean Dynamics Applications Radars (CODARs), while the root mean square differences range from 8° to 12° for WERAs and from 10° to 19° for CODARs. Correlation coefficients between the radar-estimated and the in situ wind speeds range from 0.89 to 0.93 for WERAs and from 0.81 to 0.93 for CODARs, while the root mean square differences range from 1.3 m.s−1 to 2.3 m.s−1 for WERAs and from 1.6 m.s−1 to 3.9 m.s−1 for CODARs. The remove–compute–restore (RCR) approach is widely used in local quasi-geoid modeling. However, the classical RCR approach usually does not take into account the noise of the satellite-only global gravity field model (GGM), which may lead to a suboptimal result. This paper presents an approach for local quasi-geoid modeling based on spherical radial basis functions that combines local noisy datasets and a noisy satellite-only GGM. This approach includes an RCR procedure using a satellite-only GGM. This is a direct approach that takes the spherical harmonic coefficients of satellite-only GGM as a noisy dataset and includes the corresponding full-noise covariance matrix in the least-squares estimation, aiming to obtain a statistically optimal local quasi-geoid model. The direct approach goes beyond the indirect approach, which treats the height anomalies generated from the satellite-only GGM as a noisy dataset. However, the generated GGM height anomaly dataset is not an equivalent representation of the satellite-only GGM, which may result in the loss of information from the satellite-only GGM. Through mathematical deduction, we demonstrate the theoretical consistency between the direct approach and the indirect approach. The direct approach also has an advantage over the indirect approach in terms of computational complexity due to the simpler algorithm. We conducted a synthetic closed-loop test with a real data distribution in Colorado, and numerical results demonstrated the advantage of the direct approach in local quasi-geoid modeling. In terms of the root mean square of the differences between the predicted values and the true reference values, the direct approach provided an improvement of approximately 14% compared to the indirect approach. The most commonly used real-time augmentation services in China are the International GNSS Service's (IGS) real-time service (RTS), PPP-B2b service, and Double-Frequency Multi-Constellation (DFMC) service of the BeiDou Satellite-Based Augmentation System (BDSBAS) service. However, research on the performance evaluation, comparison, and application scope of these three products is still incomplete. This article introduces methods for obtaining real-time augmentation information and real-time orbit and clock offset recovery. Based on real-time orbit and clock offset accuracy, positioning accuracy, and positioning availability, this article systematically evaluates the performance and analyzes the application fields of Centre National d'Études Spatiales (CNES), PPP-B2b, and BDSBAS augmentation information. The results of the evaluation revealed that the radial accuracy of the CNES and PPP-B2b real-time orbit product is consistent, and the Root Mean Square (RMS) is better than 5 cm. The CNES real-time orbit product can achieve centimeter-level accuracy in both along-track and cross-track components, surpassing PPP-B2b's decimeter-level accuracy. Both services demonstrate consistent accuracy in the real-time clock offset, with PPP-B2b showing similar standard deviations (STDs) of 0.16 ns for different satellites. However, for CNES, the STD of the real-time clock offset varies, with values of 0.10 ns, 0.19 ns, and 0.60 ns, respectively, for GPS, BDS-3 Medium Earth Orbit (MEO), and BDS-3 Inclined Geosynchronous Satellite Orbit (IGSO) satellites. Centimeter-level accuracy is achieved after convergence and positioning availability exceeds 99% for CNES and PPP-B2b services. Therefore, the difference between the two services in application areas depends on the acquisition of augmentation information. However, BDSBAS, which concentrates on code observations, demonstrates inferior performance in real-time orbit, clock offset, positioning accuracy, and positioning availability when compared to the other two services. Haiyang-2A (HY-2A) is the first marine dynamic environment satellite established by China, which has made significant contributions to the marine scientific research field. It carries the satellite-based GPS receiver named HY2, which was independently developed by China. It is an experimental satellite-borne GPS receiver for low earth orbit satellites, and during its operational period in orbit, the satellite-borne GPS data are not made accessible to the public. Therefore, this paper assesses the quality of HY-2A satellite-borne GPS data based on indicators such as satellite visibility, multipath effect, and ionospheric delay. The results indicate that the data acquired by the HY2 receiver are of high quality. The precise orbit determination (POD) uses the reduced-dynamic (RD) method. The adjustment effects of the pseudo-stochastic pulse time interval and a priori sigma on POD are analyzed, and the antenna phase center variation (PCV) is estimated using the direct method and residual method. Furthermore, this paper investigates the impact of PCV models with different resolutions (10° × 10° and 5° × 5°) on satellite orbit determination. To evaluate the orbit precision, three methods are used for validation, including carrier phase residual analysis, external precise science orbit (PSO) validation, and SLR three-dimensional (3D) validation, respectively. The results indicate that the highest orbit precision is achieved when the pseudo-stochastic pulse time interval is configured to 15 min, with the a priori sigma of 1 × 10−8 m/s2. The orbit carrier phase residuals reach the millimeter level. The 10° × 10°PCV model was estimated using the direct method and residual method, respectively; the root mean square of the external orbit validation for both methods show a millimeter-level improvement. The results obtained from the direct method and residual method are comparable. The resolution is increased from 10° to 5°, and the improvement in orbital precision is relatively small. The results obtained from the SLR 3D validation are consistent with those from the external PSO validation. The Earth rotation parameters (ERP) play a crucial role in defining the global reference frame and the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) is one of the important tools used to obtain ERP, including polar motion (PM), its rates, and length of day (LOD). The latest IGS Repro3 ERP products, which provided the IGS contribution to the latest ITRF2020, were generated without consideration of the Beidou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) observations. The global BDS, namely the BDS-3 constellation, has been completely constructed from July 2020 and the observing stations are evenly distributed globally now. Two couple dual-frequency combinations, including the B1I/B3I and B1C/B2a combinations, are commonly used for BDS-3 ionosphere-free combination usage. With the goal of identifying the optimal dual-frequency combination for BDS-3 ERP estimates for the future ITRF definition with a consideration of BDS-3, this research evaluated the performance of ERP estimation using B1I/B3I and B1C/B2a combinations. Firstly, we conducted a comparison of the ambiguity resolutions. The mean percentage of successfully resolved ambiguities for the BDS-3 B1C/B2a combination is 86.5%, surpassing that of B1I/B3I. The GNSS satellite orbits and ERP were estimated simultaneously, thus the accuracy of orbits could also reflect the performance of the ERP estimates. Subsequently, we validated the orbits of 22 BDS-3 Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) satellites using Satellite Laser Ranging (SLR), and the root mean square error (RMS) of the SLR residuals for the 3-day arc orbit with B1C/B2a signals was 5.72 cm, indicating superior accuracy compared with the B1I/B3I combination. Finally, we compared the performance of ERP estimation, considering both internal and external accuracy. For the internal accuracy, B1C/B2a-based solutions demonstrated a reduction in mean formal errors of approximately 17% for PM, 22% for LOD, and 21% for PM rates compared with B1I/B3I-based solutions. In terms of external accuracy, we compared BDS-3-derived ERP estimates with the IERS 20C04 products. The B1C/B2a combination exhibited a slightly better standard deviation performance and a significant reduction in mean bias by 56%, 54%, 39%, 64%, and 23% for X, Y polar motion, X, Y polar motion rates, and LOD, respectively, compared with B1I/B3I solutions. International terrestrial reference frame (ITRF) input data, generated by Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), Satellite Laser Ranging (SLR), Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI), and Doppler Orbitography and Radiopositioning integrated by satellite (DORIS) combination centers (CCs), are considered to be relatively high-quality and accurate solutions. Every few years, these input data are submitted to the three ITRS combination centers, namely Institut Géographique National (IGN), Deutsches Geodätisches Forschungsinstitut at the Technische Universität München (DGFI-TUM), and Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), to establish a multi-technique combined terrestrial reference frame (TRF). Generally, these solutions have undergone three rounds of outlier removal: the first at the technique analysis centers during solution generations and the second during the technique-specific combination by the CCs; ITRS CCs then perform a third round of outlier removal and preprocessing during the multi-technique combination of TRFs. However, since the primary objective of CCs is to release the final TRF product, they do not emphasize the publication of analytical preprocessing results, such as the outlier rejection rate. In this paper, our specific focus is on assessing the precision improvement of ITRF input data from 2014 to 2020, which includes evaluating the accuracy of coordinates, the datum accuracy, and the precision of the polar motions, for all four techniques. To achieve the above-mentioned objectives, we independently propose a TRF stacking approach to establish single technical reference frameworks, using software developed by us that is different from the ITRF generation. As a result, roughly 0.5% or less of the SLR observations are identified as outliers, while the ratio of DORIS, GNSS, and VLBI observations are below 1%, around 2%, and ranging from 1% to 1.2%, respectively. It is shown that the consistency between the SLR scale and ITRF has improved, increasing from around −5 mm in ITRF2014 datasets to approximately −1 mm in ITRF2020 datasets. The scale velocity derived from fitting the VLBI scale parameter series with all epochs in ITRF2020 datasets differs by approximately 0.21 mm/year from the velocity obtained by fitting the data up to 2013.75 because of the scale drift of VLBI around 2013. The decreasing standard deviations of the polar motion parameter (XPO, YPO) offsets between Stacking TRFs and 14C04 (20C04) indicate an improvement in the precision of polar motion observations for all four techniques. From the perspective of the weighted root mean square (WRMS) in station coordinates, since the inception of the technique, the station coordinate WRMS of DORIS decreased from 30 mm to 5 mm for X and Y components, and 25 mm to 5 mm for the Z component; SLR WRMS decreased from 20 mm to better than 10 mm (X, Y and Z); GNSS WRMS decreased from 4 mm to 1.5 mm (X and Y) and 5 mm to 2 mm (Z); while VLBI showed no significant change. This study investigates and verifies the feasibility of the precise point positioning (PPP)-B2b enhanced real-time (RT) precise orbit determination (POD) of low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites. The principles and characteristics of matching various PPP-B2b corrections are introduced and analyzed. The performance and accuracy of broadcast ephemeris and PPP-B2b signals are compared and evaluated by referring to the precise ephemeris. The root mean square (RMS) errors in the Global Positioning System (GPS) and BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS)-3 broadcast ephemeris orbits in the along direction are larger than those in the other two (radial and cross) directions, and correspondingly, the along component PPP-B2b corrections are greatest. The continuity and smoothness of the GPS and BDS-3 broadcast ephemeris orbits and clock offsets are improved with the PPP-B2b corrections. The availability of PPP-B2b corrections is comprehensively analyzed for the TJU-01 satellite. Several comparative schemes are adopted for the RT POD of the TJU-01 satellite using the broadcast ephemeris and PPP-B2b corrections. The RT POD performance is improved considerably with the broadcast ephemeris corrected by the PPP-B2b signals. The RMS of the RT orbital errors in the radial, along, and cross directions is 0.10, 0.13, and 0.09 m, respectively, using BDS-3 and GPS PPP-B2b corrections, with reference to the solutions calculated with the precise ephemeris. The accuracy is improved by 5.1%, 43.9%, and 28.7% in the three directions, respectively, relative to that achieved with the broadcast ephemeris. High waves and surges associated with storms pose threats to the coastal communities around the Great Lakes. Numerical wave models, such as WAVEWATCHIII, are commonly used to predict the wave height and direction for the Great Lakes. These predictions help determine risks and threats associated with storm events. To verify the reliability and accuracy of the wave model outputs, it is essential to compare them with observed wave conditions (e.g., significant wave height), many of which come from buoys. However, in the Great Lakes, most of the buoys are retrieved before those lakes are frozen; therefore, winter wave measurements remain a gap in the Great Lakes' data. To fill the data gap, we utilize data from the Inland Water Surface Height product of the Ice, Cloud, and Land Elevation Satellite-2 (ICESat-2) as complements. In this study, the data quality of ICESat-2 is evaluated by comparing with wave conditions from buoy observations in the Great Lakes. Then, we evaluate the model quality of NOAA's Great Lakes Waves-Unstructured Forecast System version 2.0 (GLWUv2) by comparing its retrospective forecast simulations for significant wave height with the significant wave height data from ICESat-2, as well as data from a drifting Spotter buoy that was experimentally deployed in the Great Lakes. The study indicates that the wave measurements obtained from ICESat-2 align closely with the in situ buoy observations, displaying a root-mean-square error (RMSE) of 0.191 m, a scatter index (SI) of 0.46, and a correlation coefficient of 0.890. Further evaluation suggests that the GLWUv2 tends to overestimate the wave conditions in high wave events during winter. The statistics show that the RMSE in 0–0.8 m waves is 0.257 m, while the RMSE in waves higher than 1.5 m is 0.899 m. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

To enhance the positioning accuracy of standalone GNSS receivers in environments unable to provide precise ephemeris and clock offset, such as undeveloped forest areas that lack network communication and power supply, this study employed the Time Difference Carrier Phase (TDCP) technology to improve the positioning accuracy of Standard Point Positioning (SPP), where the Least-Squares (LS) and the extended Multi-Epoch Least Squares (MELS) method were applied in the position domain filtering for a single GNSS receiver and compare its performance with the existing observation domain filtering method. Firstly, the simulated data sets with various positioning accuracies were used to verify the effectiveness and convergence of the LS filtering methods. The results indicate that the LS filtering method produces a lower root mean square (RMS) error than the original strategy. Secondly, this study uses two kinematic GNSS data sets to evaluate the performance of the observation and position domain filtering, with an emphasis on the MELS method. The numerical experiment results show that the position domain LS filtering method outperforms the other two methods. The open environment experiments result shows that the positioning domain filtering method achieved positioning accuracies of 0.202 m, 0.843 m, and 2.036 m in the E, N, and U directions, respectively, with improvements of 68.0%, 21.6%, and 24.0%, compared to the original algorithm which achieved positioning accuracies of 0.631 m, 1.076 m, and 2.680 m. It also achieved improvements of 24.0%, 4.0%, and 18.3%, respectively, compared to the observation domain filtering method with positioning accuracies of 0.353 m, 0.886 m, and 2.526 m. The forest scenes experiments result shows that the positioning domain filtering method achieved positioning accuracies of 1.308 m, 1.375 m, and 2.133 m in the E, N, and U directions, respectively, with improvements of 42.4%, 36.2%, and 27.6%, compared to original algorithm which achieved positioning accuracies of 1.863 m, 1.873 m, and 2.722 m, and also achieved improvements of 27.0%, 19.4% and 10.6%, respectively, comparing to observation domain filtering method with positioning accuracies of 1.661 m, 1.642 m and 2.359 m. Moreover, the examination of the LS method results based on different epochs reveals that the filtering accuracy increases as more epochs are incorporated into the position domain integration and the enhancement value reaches a few millimeters. The signal-in-space range error (SISRE) has a direct impact on the performance of global navigation satellite systems (GNSSs). It is an important indicator of navigation satellite space server performance. The new B-CNAV navigation messages (B-CNAV1 and B-CNAV2) are broadcast on the satellites of the Beidou Global Navigation Satellite System (BDS-3), and they are different from D1 navigation messages in satellite orbit parameters. The orbit accuracy of B-CNAV navigation messages lacks analyses and comparisons with D1. The accuracy and stability of the new hydrogen and rubidium clocks on BDS-3 satellites need annual analyses of long time series, which will affect the service quality of this system. Based on precise ephemeris products from the Center for Orbit Determination in Europe (COD), the orbit error, clock error, and SISRE of 24 medium Earth orbit (MEO) satellite D1 and B-CNAV navigation messages of BDS-3 were computed, analyzed, and compared. Their annual evolution processes for the entire year of 2022 were studied. Thanks to the use of inter-satellite links (ISLs) adopted by BDS-3 MEO satellites, the ages of the ephemeris are accurate and the percent of ages of data, ephemerides (AODEs), and ages of data and clocks (AODCs) shorter than 12 h were 99.95% and 99.96%, respectively. In addition, the broadcast orbit performance was also improved by ISLs. The root mean square (RMS) values of the BDS-3 MEO broadcast ephemeris orbit error were 0.067 m, 0.273 m, and 0.297 m in the radial, cross, and along directions, respectively. Moreover, the 3D RMS value was 0.450 m. Thanks to the use of new orbit parameters in the B-CNAV navigation messages of BDS-3 MEO, its satellite orbit accuracy was obviously better than that of D1 in the radial direction. Its improved accuracy can reach up to about 1.2 cm, and the percentage of its accuracy improvement was about 19.06%. With respect to clock errors, the timescale differences between the two clock products were eliminated to assess the accuracy of broadcasting ephemeris clock errors. A standard deviation value of 0.256 m shows good performances as a result of the use of the two new types of atomic clocks, although the RMS value was 0.541 m due to a nonzero mean bias. Overall, the accuracy of atomic clocks was good. For the new hydrogen and rubidium atomic clocks, their RMS and standard deviation were 0.563 m and 0.231 m and 0.519 m and 0.281 m, respectively. The stability of the former was better than that of the latter. However, due to the nonzero mean bias the latter was better than the former in accuracy. The RMS value of the SISRE of BDS-3 MEO's broadcast ephemeris was 0.556 m, and the value was 0.920 m when it had a 95% confidence level. In contrast, after deducting the influence of the clock error, the value of SISRE_ORB was 0.092 m. Since the satellite clock error was substantially larger than the orbit radial error, the SISRE was mainly affected by the clock error, and their annual evolutions were consistent. Because of the improvement to the B-CNAV's navigation message with respect to orbit radial accuracy, SISRE_ORB has improved in accuracy. Rice is a primary food source, and height is a crucial parameter affecting its growth status. Consequently, high-precision, real-time monitoring of quantitative changes in crop height are required for improved crop production. Polarimetric interferometric SAR (PolInSAR) has both polarization and interferometric observation capabilities. Due to the short height of crops and rapid growth changes, the large spatial and short temporal baselines of PolInSAR data are essential for effective crop height inversion; however, relevant satellite-borne SAR and airborne SAR data are currently limited. This study presents a PolInSAR rice height inversion algorithm that uses the oriented volume over ground (OVoG) mode with PolInSAR 0-time and controllable spatial baseline data from a LAMP microwave anechoic chamber. Exploiting the advantages of microwave anechoic chamber measurement data, which includes continuous frequency bands, multiple baselines, and varied incidence angles, the influences of incident angles, baseline length, number of baselines, and baseline combinations are assessed. The highest accuracy rice plant height inversion has a root mean square deviation (RMSE) of 0.1093 m and is achieved with an incidence angle of 35–55°, baseline length of 0.25°, and three to four baselines. Furthermore, an imaging geometric equivalence analysis provides reliable foundation data to guide research into new earth observation SAR systems. The results indicate that, under simulated observations from the GF3 satellite at an altitude of 755 km, the optimal spatial baseline ranges for various frequency bands are as follows: L-band: 10.93–42.59 km; S-band: 4.10–15.97 km; C-band: 2.48–9.64 km; X-band: 1.36–5.32 km; Ku-band: 0.87–3.40 km. Utilizing in situ measurement data to assess satellite-derived long-term ocean color products under different observational conditions is crucial for ensuring data quality and integrity. In this study, we conducted an extensive evaluation and analysis of Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) remote sensing reflectance (Rrs) products using long-term OC-CCI in situ data from 2012 to 2021. Our research findings indicate that, well beyond its designed operational lifespan, the root mean square difference accuracy of VIIRS Rrs products across most spectral bands remains superior to 0.002 (sr−1). However, VIIRS Rrs products in shorter wavelength bands (e.g., at 412 nm) have exhibited significantly lower accuracy and a long-term bias in recent years. The annual precision of VIIRS Rrs products demonstrated a declining trend, particularly in coastal or eutrophic waters. This degradation in accuracy highlights the imperative for continuous monitoring of VIIRS performance and further advancements in the atmospheric correction algorithm, especially to address satellite records at high solar zenith angles (SZAs) and observation zenith angles (OZAs). Our analysis indicates that, in observation environments with high SZAs (greater than 70°), the accuracy of VIIRS Rrs products has declined by nearly 50% compared to typical solar zenith angle observation conditions. To address the challenge of declining accuracy under large observation geometries, we introduced the neural network atmospheric correction model (NN-V). Developed based on meticulously curated VIIRS products, the NN-V model exhibits outstanding performance in handling VIIRS data in conditions of extensive observation geometries. During the winter season in high-latitude marine regions, the NN-V model demonstrates a remarkable enhancement in ocean color product coverage, achieving an increase of nearly 20 times compared to traditional methods. Earth rotation parameters (ERPs) are fundamental to geodetic and astronomical studies. With its high measurement accuracy and stability, the Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) plays an irreplaceable role in estimating the ERPs and maintaining the earth reference frame. However, the imperfect global station distribution, observation discontinuity, and vast cost of the VLBI make the GNSS a more attractive technique. In 2020, the third generation of the BeiDou Navigation System (BDS), namely BDS-3, was constructed completely. In this study, we conducted a series of experiments to estimate Earth's rotation parameters based on the continuous BDS-3 observation data, the discontinuous VLBI observation data, and the combined BDS-3 and discontinuous VLBI observation data. We used two methods, namely the weighted averaging method and the normal equation combination method, to obtain ERP combination solutions. The results are compared with the International Earth Rotation and Reference Systems Service (IERS) EOP 20C04 at 00:00:00 UTC. Final results show that (a) the estimation accuracy becomes stable when the number of BDS-3 tracking stations is more than 40. At the same time, both the number of stations and the volume of polyhedrons formed by the observing stations affect the accuracy of the ERPs estimated by the BDS-3 or VLBI. (b) Results have also shown that the inclusion of the BDS-3 IGSO and GEO satellites contributes little to the ERP estimation. (c) For the BDS-3-only MEO satellites solution, the root mean square (RMS) was 113.2 µas, 102.8 µas, and 13.1 µs/day for X-pole coordinate, Y-pole coordinate, and length of day (LOD), respectively. For the VLBI solution, the RMSs of the X-pole, Y-pole, and LOD were 100.4 µas for the X-pole, 94.2 µas for the Y-pole, and 14.1 µs/day. The RMS was 82.6 µas, 70.3 µas, and 10.5 µs/day for the combined X-pole, Y-pole, and LOD using the weighted averaging method. It was 78.2 µas, 62.6 µas, and 8.6 µs/day when the normal equation combination method was applied. This demonstrates that by taking advantage of the BDS-3 and VLBI technique combinations, accuracy in estimating the ERPs can be improved over that using either of them, in addition to enhanced stability and reliability. Owing to the dependence of algorithms on the measurement of ship soundings and geophysical parameters, the accuracy and coverage of topography still need to be improved. Previous studies have mostly predicted topography using gravity or gravity gradient, However, there is a relative lack of integrated research combining or comparing gravity and gravity gradient. In this study, we develop observation equations to predict topography based on vertical gravity anomalies (VG; also called gravity anomalies) and vertical gravity gradient (VGG) anomalies generated by a rectangular prism. The sources of interference are divided into medium- to high-frequency errors and low-frequency errors, and these new methods reduce these errors through regularization and error equations. We also use numerical simulations to test the efficiency of the algorithm and error-reduction method. Statistics show that VGG anomalies are more sensitive to topographic fluctuations; however, the linear correlation between VG anomalies and topography is stronger. Additionally, we use the EIGEN-6C4 model of VG and VGG anomalies to predict topography in shallow and deep-sea areas, with maximum depths of 2 km and 5 km, respectively. In the shallow and deep-sea areas, the root mean square (RMS) errors of VGG anomalies prediction are 93.8 m and 233.8 m, and the corresponding accuracies improved by 7.3% and 2.3% compared with those of VG anomaly prediction, respectively. Furthermore, we use cubic spline interpolation to fuse ship soundings and improve the accuracy of the final topography results. We develop a novel analytical algorithm by constructing an observation equation system applicable to VG and VGG anomalies. Multipath effects are the most challenging error sources for the Global Navigation Satellite System receiver, affecting observation quality and positioning accuracy. Due to the non-linear and time-varying nature, multipath error is difficult to process. Previous studies used a homogeneous indicator to characterize multipath effects and only revealed the temporal or spatial correlations of the multipath, resulting in limited correction performance. In this study, we consider the code multipath to be influenced not only by the elevation and azimuth angle of certain stations to satellites but also to be related to satellite characteristics such as nadir angle. Hence, azimuth angle, elevation angle, nadir angle and carrier-to-noise power density ratio are taken as multiple indicators to characterize the multipath significantly. Then, we propose an Attention-based Convolutional Long Short-Term Memory (AT-Conv-LSTM) that fully exploits the spatiotemporal correlations of multipath derived from multiple indicators. The main processing procedures using AT-Conv-LSTM are given. Finally, the AT-Conv-LSTM is applied to a station for 16 consecutive days to verify the multipath mitigation effectiveness. Compared with sidereal filtering, multipath hemispherical map (MHM) and trend-surface analysis-based MHM, the experimental results show that using AT-Conv-LSTM can decrease the root mean square error and mean absolute error values of the multipath error more than 60% and 13%, respectively. The proposed method can correct the code multipath to centimeter level, which is one order of magnitude lower than the uncorrected code multipath. Therefore, the proposed AT-Conv-LSTM network could be used as a powerful alternative tool to realize multipath reduction and will be of wide practical value in the fields of standard and high-precision positioning services. Precipitation is an essential element in earth system research, which greatly benefits from the emergence of Satellite Precipitation Products (SPPs). Therefore, assessment of the accuracy of the SPPs is necessary both scientifically and practically. The Integrated Multi-Satellite Retrievals for GPM (IMERG) is one of the most widely used SPPs in the scientific community. However, there is a lack of comprehensive evaluation for the performance of the newly released IMERG Version 07, which is essential for determining its effectiveness and reliability in precipitation estimation. In this study, we compare the IMERG V07 Final Run (V07_FR) with its predecessor IMERG V06_FR across scales from January 2016 to December 2020 over the globe (cross-compare their similarities and differences) and a focused study on mainland China (validate against 2481 rain gauges). The results show that: (1) Globally, the annual mean precipitation of V07_FR increases 2.2% compared to V06_FR over land but decreases 5.8% over the ocean. The two SPPs further exhibit great differences as indicated by the Critical Success Index (CSI = 0.64) and the Root Mean Squared Difference (RMSD = 3.42 mm/day) as compared to V06_FR to V07_FR. (2) Over mainland China, V06_FR and V07_FR detect comparable precipitation annually. However, the Probability of Detection (POD) improves by 5.0%, and the RMSD decreases by 3.7% when analyzed by grid cells. Further, the POD (+0%~+6.1%) and CSI (+0%~+8.8%) increase and the RMSD (−11.1%~0%) decreases regardless of the sub-regions. (3) Under extreme rainfall rates, V07_FR measures 4.5% lower extreme rainfall rates than V06_FR across mainland China. But V07_FR tends to detect more accurate extreme precipitation at both daily and event scales. This review presents the main results of the author's study, obtained as part of the post-doctoral (habilitation) dissertation entitled "Research on Statistical Distributions of Navigation Positioning System Errors", which constitutes a series of five thematically linked scientific publications. The main scientific aim of this series is to answer the question of what statistical distributions follow the position errors of navigation systems, such as Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS), European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service (EGNOS), Global Positioning System (GPS), and others. All of the positioning systems under study (Decca Navigator, DGPS, EGNOS, and GPS) are characterised by the Position Random Walk (PRW), which means that latitude and longitude errors do not appear randomly, being a feature of the normal distribution. The research showed that the Gaussian distribution is not an optimal distribution for the modelling of navigation positioning system errors. A higher fit to the 1D and 2D position errors was exhibited by such distributions as beta, gamma, and lognormal. Moreover, it was proven that the Twice the Distance Root Mean Square (2DRMS(2D)) measure, which assumes a priori normal distribution of position errors in relation to latitude and latitude, was smaller by 10–14% than the position error value from which 95% fixes were smaller (it is known as the R95(2D) measure). Missing data in precipitable water vapor derived from global navigation satellite systems (GNSS-PWV) is commonly a large hurdle in climatical applications, since continuous PWV is an important prerequisite. Interpolation using principal component analysis (PCA) is typically used to resolve this problem. However, the popular PCA-based interpolating methods, e.g., rank-deficient least squares PCA (RDPCA) and data interpolating empirical orthogonal function (DINEOF), often lead to unsatisfactory results. This study analyzes the relationship between missing data and PCA-based interpolation results and proposes an improved interpolation-based RDPCA (IRDPCA) that can take into account the PWV derived from ERA5 (ERA-PWV) as an additional aid. Three key steps are involved in the IRDPCA: initially interpolating missing data, estimating principal components through a functional model and optimizing the interpolation through an iterative process. Using a 6-year GNSS-PWV over 26 stations and ERA-PWV in Yunnan, China, the performance of the IRDPCA is compared with the RDPCA and DINEOF using simulation experiments based on both homogeneous data (i.e., interpolating ERA-PWV using available ERA-PWV) and heterogeneous data (i.e., interpolating GNSS-PWV using ERA-PWV). In the case of using homogeneous data, the root mean square (RMS) values of the interpolation errors are 3.45, 1.18 and 1.17 mm for the RDPCA, DINEOF and IRDPCA, respectively; while the values are 3.50, 2.50 and 1.55 mm in the heterogeneous case. These results demonstrate the superior performance of the IRDPCA in both the heterogeneous and homogeneous cases. Moreover, these methods are also applied to the interpolation of the real GNSS-PWV. The RMS, absolute bias and correlation of the GNSS-PWV are calculated by comparison with ERA-PWV. The results reveal that the interpolated GNSS-PWV using the IRDPCA is not impacted by the systematic discrepancies in the ERA-PWV and agrees well with the original data. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Remote sensing images are very vulnerable to cloud interference during the imaging process. Cloud occlusion, especially thick cloud occlusion, significantly reduces the imaging quality of remote sensing images, which in turn affects a variety of subsequent tasks using the remote sensing images. The remote sensing images miss ground information due to thick cloud occlusion. The thick cloud removal method based on a temporality global–local structure is initially suggested as a solution to this problem. This method includes two stages: the global multi-temporal feature fusion (GMFF) stage and the local single-temporal information restoration (LSIR) stage. It adopts the fusion feature of global multi-temporal to restore the thick cloud occlusion information of local single temporal images. Then, the featured global–local structure is created in both two stages, fusing the global feature capture ability of Transformer with the local feature extraction ability of CNN, with the goal of effectively retaining the detailed information of the remote sensing images. Finally, the local feature extraction (LFE) module and global–local feature extraction (GLFE) module is designed according to the global–local characteristics, and the different module details are designed in this two stages. Experimental results indicate that the proposed method performs significantly better than the compared methods in the established data set for the task of multi-temporal thick cloud removal. In the four scenes, when compared to the best method CMSN, the peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) index improved by 2.675, 5.2255, and 4.9823 dB in the first, second, and third temporal images, respectively. The average improvement of these three temporal images is 9.65%. In the first, second, and third temporal images, the correlation coefficient (CC) index improved by 0.016, 0.0658, and 0.0145, respectively, and the average improvement for the three temporal images is 3.35%. Structural similarity (SSIM) and root mean square (RMSE) are improved 0.33% and 34.29%, respectively. Consequently, in the field of multi-temporal cloud removal, the proposed method enhances the utilization of multi-temporal information and achieves better effectiveness of thick cloud restoration. Unmodeled errors play a critical role in improving the positioning accuracy of Global Navigation Satellite Systems. Few studies have addressed unmodeled errors in medium and long baselines using their time correlation, which is highly beneficial for achieving a precise and real-time solution. However, before tackling unmodeled errors, it is first necessary to determine reasonable basic functions to fit such unmodeled errors. Therefore, we study the selection of basic functions for time-varying unmodeled errors in two positioning modes: estimating atmospheric delays and using an IF combination. We choose three basic functions: polynomials, sinusoidal functions, and combinatorial functions. Fitting experiments and positioning experiments are conducted using the unmodeled error data provided by four baselines ranging from 30 to 220 km. The Root Mean Square Errors fitted by the second order are approximately 2 mm. The corresponding residuals generally converge to 3 mm in about 30 s. After correcting the observations using the fitted unmodeled errors of the second-order polynomial, the positioning results show improvements of about 40% to 80% in all directions. The Atmospheric Radiative Transfer Simulator (ARTS) has been widely used in the radiation transfer simulation from microwave to terahertz. Due to the same physical principles, ARTS can also be used for simulations of thermal infrared (TIR). However, thorough evaluations of ARTS in the TIR region are still lacking. Here, we evaluated the performance of ARTS in 600–1650 cm−1 taking the Line-By-Line Radiative Transfer Model (LBLRTM) as a reference model. Additionally, the moderate resolution atmospheric transmission (MODTRAN) band model (BM) and correlated-k (CK) methods were also used for comparison. The comparison results on the 0.001 cm−1 spectral grid showed a high agreement (sub-0.1 K) between ARTS and LBLRTM, while the mean bias difference (MBD) and root mean square difference (RMSD) were less than 0.05 K and 0.3 K, respectively. After convolving with the spectral response functions of the Atmospheric Infra-Red Sounder (AIRS) and the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS), the brightness temperature (BT) differences between ARTS and LBLRTM became smaller with RMSDs of <0.1 K. The comparison results for Jacobians showed that the Jacobians calculated by ARTS and LBLRTM were close for temperature (can be used for Numerical Weather Prediction application) and O3 (excellent Jacobian fit). For the water vapor Jacobian, the Jacobian difference increased with an increasing water vapor content. However, at extremely low water vapor values (0.016 ppmv in this study), LBLRTM exhibited non-physical mutations, while ARTS was smooth. The roughness of rock joints exerts a substantial influence on the mechanical behavior of rock masses. In order to identify potential failure mechanisms and to design effective protection measures, the accurate measurement of joint roughness is essential. Traditional methods, such as contact profilometry, laser scanning, and close-range photogrammetry, encounter difficulties when assessing steep and inaccessible slopes, thus hindering the safety and precision of data collection. This study aims to assess the feasibility of utilizing drone photogrammetry to quantify the roughness of rock joints on steep and inaccessible slopes. Field experiments were conducted, and the results were compared to those of 3D laser scanning in order to validate the approach's procedural details, applicability, and measurement accuracy. Under a 3 m image capture distance using drone photogrammetry, the root mean square error of the multiscale model-to-model cloud comparison (M3C2) distance and the average roughness measurement error were less than 0.5 mm and 10%, respectively. The results demonstrate the feasibility and potential of drone photogrammetry for joint roughness measurement challenges, providing a useful tool for practitioners and researchers pursuing innovative solutions for assessing rock joint roughness on precipitous and hazardous slopes. An accurate estimation of zenith wet delay (ZWD) is crucial for global navigation satellite system (GNSS) positioning and GNSS-based precipitable water vapor (PWV) inversion. The forecast Vienna Mapping Function 3 (VMF3-FC) is a forecast product provided by the Vienna Mapping Functions (VMF) data server based on the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF)-based numerical weather prediction (NWP) model. The VMF3-FC can provide ZWD at any time and for any location worldwide; however, it has an uneven accuracy distribution and fails to match the application requirements in certain areas. To address this issue, in this study, a calibrated model for VMF3-FC ZWD, named the XZWD model, was developed by utilizing observation data from 492 radiosonde sites globally from 2019–2021 and the eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) algorithm. The performance of the XZWD model was validated using 2022 observation data from the 492 radiosonde sites. The XZWD model yields a mean bias of −0.03 cm and a root-mean-square error (RMSE) of 1.64 cm. The XZWD model outperforms the global pressure and temperature 3 (GPT3) model, reducing the bias and RMSE by 94.64% and 58.90%, respectively. Meanwhile, the XZWD model outperforms VMF3-FC, with a reduction of 92.68% and 6.29% in bias and RMSE, respectively. Furthermore, the XZWD model reduces the impact of ZWD accuracy by latitude, height, and seasonal variations more effectively than the GPT3 model and VMF3-FC. The simulation and prediction of coastline changes are of great significance for the development and scientific management of coastal zones. Coastline changes are difficult to capture completely but appear significantly periodic over a long time series. In this paper, the transformer model is used to learn the changing trend of the coastline so as to deduce the position of the coastline in the coming year. First, we use the distance regularization level set evolution (DRLSE) model for instantaneous waterline extraction (IWE) from preprocessed Landsat time-series images from 2010–2020 in Weitou Bay, China. Then, tidal correction (TC) is performed on the extracted instantaneous waterline dataset to obtain coastlines projected to a single reference tidal datum. Finally, the coastline datasets from 2010–2019 are used for model training, and the coastline in 2020 is used for accuracy assessment. Three precision evaluation methods, including receiver operating characteristic curve matching, the mean offset, and the root mean square error, were used to verify the predicted coastline data. The receiver operating characteristic curve was specifically designed and improved to evaluate the accuracy of the obtained coastline. Compared with the support vector regression (SVR) and long–short-term memory (LSTM) methods, the results showed that the coastline predicted by the transformer model was the closest to the accurate extracted coastline. The accuracies of the correct values corresponding to SVR, LSTM, and transformer models were 88.27%, 94.08%, and 98.80%, respectively, which indicated the accuracy of the coastline extraction results. Additionally, the mean offset and root mean square error were 0.32 pixels and 0.57 pixels, respectively. In addition, the experimental results showed that tidal correction is important for coastline prediction. Moreover, through field investigations of coastlines, the predicted results obtained for natural coastlines were more accurate, while the predicted results were relatively poor for some artificial coastlines that were intensely influenced by human activities. In recent years, the most popular methods for determining coastline course are geodetic, satellite, and tacheometric techniques. None of the above-mentioned measurement methods allows marking out the shoreline both in an accurate way and with high coverage of the terrain with surveys. For this reason, intensive works are currently underway to find alternative solutions that could accurately, extensively, and quickly determine coastline course. Based on a review of the literature regarding shoreline measurements, it can be concluded that the photogrammetric method, based on low-altitude images taken by an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), has the greatest potential. The aim of this publication is to present and validate a method for determining coastline course based on low-altitude photos taken by a drone. Shoreline measurements were carried out using the DJI Matrice 300 RTK UAV in the coastal zone at the public beach in Gdynia (Poland) in 2023. In addition, the coastline course was marked out using high-resolution satellite imagery (0.3–0.5 m). In order to calculate the accuracy of determining the shoreline by photogrammetric and satellite methods, it was decided to relate them to the coastline marked out using a Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) Real Time Kinematic (RTK) receiver with an accuracy of 2.4 cm Distance Root Mean Square (DRMS). Studies have shown that accuracies of determining coastline course using a UAV are 0.47 m (p = 0.95) for the orthophotomosaic method and 0.70 m (p = 0.95) for the Digital Surface Model (DSM), and are much more accurate than the satellite method, which amounted to 6.37 m (p = 0.95) for the Pléiades Neo satellite and 9.24 m (p = 0.95) for the Hexagon Europe satellite. Based on the obtained test results, it can be stated that the photogrammetric method using a UAV meets the accuracy requirements laid down for the most stringent International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) order, i.e., Exclusive Order (Total Horizontal Uncertainty (THU) of 5 m with a confidence level of 95%), which they relate to coastline measurements. Hyperspectral sensors mounted on unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) offer the prospect of high-resolution multi-temporal spectral analysis for a range of remote-sensing applications. However, although accurate onboard navigation sensors track the moment-to-moment pose of the UAV in flight, geometric distortions are introduced into the scanned data sets. Consequently, considerable time-consuming (user/manual) post-processing rectification effort is generally required to retrieve geometrically accurate mosaics of the hyperspectral data cubes. Moreover, due to the line-scan nature of many hyperspectral sensors and their intrinsic inability to exploit structure from motion (SfM), only 2D mosaics are generally created. To address this, we propose a fast, automated and computationally robust georectification and mosaicking technique that generates 3D hyperspectral point clouds. The technique first morphologically and geometrically examines (and, if possible, repairs) poorly constructed individual hyperspectral cubes before aligning these cubes into swaths. The luminance of each individual cube is estimated and normalised, prior to being integrated into a swath of images. The hyperspectral swaths are co-registered to a targeted element of a luminance-normalised orthomosaic obtained using a standard red–green–blue (RGB) camera and SfM. To avoid computationally intensive image processing operations such as 2D convolutions, key elements of the orthomosaic are identified using pixel masks, pixel index manipulation and nearest neighbour searches. Maximally stable extremal regions (MSER) and speeded-up robust feature (SURF) extraction are then combined with maximum likelihood sample consensus (MLESAC) feature matching to generate the best geometric transformation model for each swath. This geometrically transforms and merges individual pushbroom scanlines into a single spatially continuous hyperspectral mosaic; and this georectified 2D hyperspectral mosaic is then converted into a 3D hyperspectral point cloud by aligning the hyperspectral mosaic with the RGB point cloud used to create the orthomosaic obtained using SfM. A high spatial accuracy is demonstrated. Hyperspectral mosaics with a 5 cm spatial resolution were mosaicked with root mean square positional accuracies of 0.42 m. The technique was tested on five scenes comprising two types of landscape. The entire process, which is coded in MATLAB, takes around twenty minutes to process data sets covering around 30 Ha at a 5 cm resolution on a laptop with 32 GB RAM and an Intel® Core i7-8850H CPU running at 2.60 GHz. Reliable precipitation data are essential for studying water cycle patterns and climate change. However, there are always temporal or spatial errors in precipitation data from various sources. Most precipitation fusion methods are influenced by high-dimensional input features and do not make good use of the spatial correlation between precipitation and environmental variables. Thus, this study proposed a novel multi-source precipitation spatiotemporal fusion method for improving the spatiotemporal accuracy of precipitation. Specifically, the attention mechanism was used to first select critical input information to dimensionalize the inputs, and the Convolutional long-short-term memory network (ConvLSTM) was used to merge precipitation products and environmental variables spatiotemporally. The Yalong River in the southeastern part of the Tibetan Plateau was used as the case study area. The results show that: (1) Compared with the original precipitation products (IMERG, ERA5 and CHIRPS), the proposed method has optimal accuracy and good robustness, and its correlation coefficient (CC) reaches 0.853, its root mean square coefficient (RMSE) decreases to 3.53 mm/d and its mean absolute error (MAE) decreases to 1.33 mm/d. (2) The proposed method can reduce errors under different precipitation intensities and greatly improve the detection capability for strong precipitation. (3) The merged precipitation generated by the proposed method can be used to describe the rainfall–runoff relationship and has good applicability. Accurately estimating hydrological parameters is crucial for comprehending global water resources and climate dynamics. This study addresses the challenge of quantifying uncertainties in the global land data assimilation system (GLDAS) model and enhancing the accuracy of downscaled gravity recovery and climate experiment (GRACE) data. Although the GLDAS models provide valuable information on hydrological parameters, they lack uncertainty quantification. To enhance the resolution of GRACE data, a spectral downscaling approach can be employed, leveraging uncertainty estimates. In this study, we propose a novel approach, referred to as method 2, which incorporates parameter magnitudes to estimate uncertainties in the GLDAS model. The proposed method is applied to downscale GRACE data over Alberta, with a specific focus on December 2003. The groundwater storage extracted from the downscaled terrestrial water storage (TWS) are compared with measurements from piezometric wells, demonstrating substantial improvements in accuracy. In approximately 80% of the wells, the root mean square (RMS) and standard deviation (STD) were improved to less than 5 mm. Since the launch of CFOSAT on 29 October 2018, more than three years of observational data of ocean wave spectra with a frequency range of 0.02–0.26 Hz and a horizontal resolution of 70–90 km have been obtained. This study compares wave spectra retrieved from 6°, 8°, and 10° incidence angle beams and their combination provided by CFOSAT with corresponding data from 98 buoys from the National Data Buoy Center (NDBC) in order to validate the remote sensing wave spectral accuracy from 1 January 2020 to 31 December 2022. The correlation coefficient of frequency spectra (Rs) between CFOSAT and buoys is used to represent the accuracy of the spectral form; the root mean square (RMS) of the significant wave height (SWH) is used to represent the accuracy of the total energy. The results indicate that CFOSAT can retrieve reliable wave frequency spectral forms with a high significant wave height (Rs > 0.8 when SWH > 3 m; RS < 0.4 when SWH < 1 m). The low-frequency noise in the swell part causes the main error, the RMS of the swell height is 0.4 m whereas the RMS of wind wave height is 0.24 m, and the mask filter used for spectral partitioned provided by CFOSAT can eliminate the low-frequency noise and improve the Rs of 10° beam wave spectra from 0.59 to 0.64. For the wind wave spectra, the correct spectra have been achieved and the mask filter cannot improve the accuracy. The wave spectra from the 10° beam without mask filtering provides the best estimation of total energy, the RMS of SWH is 0.23 m, after the mask filtering, the best estimation of spectral form can be achieved, the Rs is 0.64. The novelty of this study is that we found the strong correlation between SWH and Rs, where the scatter of SWH and Rs can be fitted as: Rs = 1 − exp(−0.89·SWH + 0.20); according to this approximate formula, we can estimate the reliability of wave spectra provided by CFOSAT according to the SWH in any region, which is important for wave spectral assimilation in the numerical model. The validation of wave direction indicates that the accuracy of wave spectra in the directional component is poor; further research is needed on the causes of directional errors. Generally, this study is not only an evaluation of the quality of the CFOSAT spectral data, but also an important reference for a series of research requiring the CFOSAT spectral data. Three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction is an essential technique to visualize and monitor the growth of agricultural and forestry plants. However, inspecting tall plants (trees) remains a challenging task for single-camera systems. A combination of low-altitude remote sensing (an unmanned aerial vehicle) and a terrestrial capture platform (a mobile robot) is suggested to obtain the overall structural features of trees including the trunk and crown. To address the registration problem of the point clouds from different sensors, a registration method based on a fast point feature histogram (FPFH) is proposed to align the tree point clouds captured by terrestrial and airborne sensors. Normal vectors are extracted to define a Darboux coordinate frame whereby FPFH is calculated. The initial correspondences of point cloud pairs are calculated according to the Bhattacharyya distance. Reliable matching point pairs are then selected via random sample consensus. Finally, the 3D transformation is solved by singular value decomposition. For verification, experiments are conducted with real-world data. In the registration experiment on noisy and partial data, the root-mean-square error of the proposed method is 0.35% and 1.18% of SAC-IA and SAC-IA + ICP, respectively. Modern navigation systems are inseparable from an integrated solution consisting of a global navigation satellite system (GNSS) and an inertial navigation system (INS) since they serve as an important cornerstone of national comprehensive positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) technology and can provide position, velocity, and attitude information at higher accuracy and better reliability. A robust adaptive method utilizes the observation information of both systems to optimize the filtering system, overcoming the shortcomings of the Kalman filter (KF) in complex urban environments. We propose a novel robust adaptive scheme based on a multi-condition decision model suitable for tightly coupled real-time kinematic (RTK)/INS architecture, which can reasonably determine whether the filtering system performs robust estimation (TCRKF) or adaptive filtering (TCAKF), improving the robust estimation method of two factors considering ambiguity variance for RTK-related observations. The performance of the proposed robust adaptive algorithm was evaluated through two sets of real vehicle tests. Compared with the TCAKF and TCRKF algorithms, the new robust adaptive scheme improves the average three-dimensional (3D) position root mean square (RMS) by 31% and 18.88%, respectively. A residual network (ResNet) model was proposed for estimating Chl-a concentrations in global oceans from the remote sensing reflectance (Rrs) observed by the Chinese ocean color and temperature scanner (COCTS) onboard the HY-1C satellite. A total of 52 images from September 2018 to September 2019 were collected, and the label data were from the multi-task Ocean Color-Climate Change Initiative (OC-CCI) daily products. The results of feature selection and sensitivity experiments show that the logarithmic values of Rrs565 and Rrs520/Rrs443, Rrs565/Rrs490, Rrs520/Rrs490, Rrs490/Rrs443, and Rrs670/Rrs565 are the optimal input parameters for the model. Compared with the classical empirical OC4 algorithm and other machine learning models, including the artificial neural network (ANN), deep neural network (DNN), and random forest (RF), the ResNet retrievals are in better agreement with the OC-CCI Chl-a products. The root-mean-square error (RMSE), unbiased percentage difference (UPD), and correlation coefficient (logarithmic, R(log)) are 0.13 mg/m3, 17.31%, and 0.97, respectively. The performance of the ResNet model was also evaluated against in situ measurements from the Aerosol Robotic Network-Ocean Color (AERONET-OC) and field survey observations in the East and South China Seas. Modeling the quantitative relationship between target components and measured spectral information is an essential part of laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) analysis. However, many traditional multivariate analysis algorithms must reduce the spectral dimension or extract the characteristic spectral lines in advance, which may result in information loss and reduced accuracy. Indeed, improving the precision and interpretability of LIBS quantitative analysis is a critical challenge in Mars exploration. To solve this problem, this paper proposes an end-to-end lightweight quantitative modeling framework based on ensemble convolutional neural networks (ECNNs). This method eliminates the need for dimensionality reduction of the raw spectrum along with other pre-processing operations. We used the ChemCam calibration dataset as an example to verify the effectiveness of the proposed approach. Compared with partial least squares regression (a linear method) and extreme learning machine (a nonlinear method), our proposed method resulted in a lower root-mean-square error for major element prediction (54% and 73% lower, respectively) and was more stable. We also delved into the internal learning mechanism of the deep CNN model to understand how it hierarchically extracts spectral information features. In this study, the impact of assimilating MWHS2 radiance data under different background conditions on the analyses and deterministic prediction of the Super Typhoon Muifa case, which hit China in 2022, was explored. The fifth-generation European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) Reanalysis v5 (ERA5) data and the Global Forecast System (GFS) analysis data from the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) were used as the background fields. To assimilate the Microwave Humidity Sounder II (MWHS2) radiance data into the numerical simulation experiments, the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model and its three-dimensional variational data assimilation system were employed. The results show that after the data assimilation, the standard deviation and root-mean-square error of the analysis significantly decrease relative to the observation, indicating the effectiveness of the assimilation process with both background fields. In the MWHS_GFS experiment, a subtropical high-pressure deviation to the east is observed around the typhoon, resulting in its northeast movement. In the differential field of the MWHS_ERA experiment, negative sea-level pressure differences around the typhoon are observed, which increases its intensity. In the deterministic predictions, assimilating the FY3D MWHS2 radiance data reduces the typhoon track error in the MWHS_GFS experiment and the typhoon intensity error in the MWHS_ERA experiment. In addition, it is found that the Community Radiative Transfer Model (CRTM) and the Radiative Transfer for Tovs (RTTOV) model show similar performance in assimilating MWHS2 radiance data for this typhoon case. It seems that the data assimilation experiment with the CRTM significantly reduces the typhoon track error than the experiment with the RTTOV model does, while the intensity error of both experiments is rather comparable. The global navigation satellite system (GNSS) is developing rapidly, and the related market applications and scientific research are increasing. Studies based on large low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite constellations have become research hotspots. The global coverage of the LEO constellation can reduce the dependence of navigation satellites on ground-monitoring stations and improve the precise orbit determination (POD) accuracy of navigation satellites. In this paper, we simulate various LEO satellite constellations (with 12, 30, and 60 satellites), along with ground stations' observation data, to examine the impact of LEO satellites on the precision of the BeiDou-3 Global Navigation Satellite System (BDS-3) in terms of its POD accuracy. Using the simulated observation data of both LEO satellites and ground-monitoring stations, we analyze the integrated orbit determination for the LEO and BDS-3 satellites. The findings reveal that the 3D orbital accuracy of BDS-3 is 9.51 dm by using only seven ground-monitoring stations, and it is improved to a centimeter level after adding the LEO constellations. As the number of LEO constellation satellites increases, the impact on improving accuracy gradually diminishes. In terms of time synchronization accuracy in the BDS-3, compared to the results of clock offset using only ground stations, the addition of 12 LEO satellites resulted in an improvement of 49% for RMS1(root mean square) and 52% for RMS2 (standard deviation), the addition of 30 LEO satellites resulted in an improvement of 66% for RMS1 and 70% for RMS2, and the addition of 60 LEO satellites resulted in an improvement of 87% for RMS1 and 90% for RMS2. The integrated orbit determination of the LEO and BDS-3 satellites constellation greatly improves the accuracy of time synchronization. In addition, we also use simulated inter-satellite link (ISL) data to perform enhanced BDS-3 satellites POD and time synchronization experiments. The experiments showed that the orbit determination accuracy of the seven sta (seven stations) and ISL scheme is comparable to that of the seven sta and LEO12 scheme, and that the time synchronization accuracy of the seven sta and ISL scheme is slightly worse. The Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE), and its follow-on mission (GRACE-FO), provides a novel measurement of the variations in ocean bottom pressure (OBP) at global and basin scales, including those in marginal seas. However, these measurements have not yet been validated rigorously for the South China Sea (SCS). In this study, the accuracy in the monthly GRACE-FO mascon solutions in the SCS from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), Center for Space Research (CSR), and Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) was validated with the results of the comparison with the in situ OBP records from an array of 25 pressure-recording inverted echo sounders (PIESs) that are located west of the Luzon Strait (LS). The correlation coefficient (Cor) and root mean square difference (RMSD) between the 10-month period of GSFC and PIES, spanning from July 2018 to June 2019 (with missing satellite data for August and September 2018), were 0.77 (p-value = 0.005) and 0.41 mbar (1 mbar = 100 Pa), respectively. These values suggest that the accuracy of GSFC in the SCS in this period was substantially better than that of JPL (Cor = 0.35, p-value = 0.16; RMSD = 0.74 mbar) and CSR (Cor = 0.25, p-value = 0.24; RMSD = 0.89 mbar). Moreover, the volume transport anomaly of the SCS abyssal circulation was estimated and compared based on the OBP records from GSFC and PIES observations, indicating that the GRACE-FO OBP (GSFC) can be used to monitor seasonal or longer-period variations in the SCS abyssal volume transport. Additionally, the variations in OBP from GRACE-FO were significantly overestimated on the continental shelf of the SCS, which may be attributed to signal leakage. Our findings provide reliable evidence for the application of long-term, fully covered OBP records from GRACE-FO in the SCS, and also offer a valuable reference for the application of GRACE-FO in other regions. Low- and medium-resolution satellites have been a relatively mature platform for inland eutrophic water classification and chlorophyll a concentration (Chl-a) retrieval algorithms. However, for oligotrophic and mesotrophic waters in small- and medium-sized reservoirs, problems of low satellite resolution, insufficient water sampling, and higher uncertainty in retrieval accuracy exist. In this paper, a hybrid Chl-a estimation method based on spectral characteristics (i.e., remote sensing reflectance (Rrs)) classification was developed for oligotrophic and mesotrophic waters using high-resolution satellite Sentinel-2 (A and B) data. First, 99 samples and quasi-synchronous Sentinel-2 satellite data were collected from four small- and medium-sized reservoirs in central China, and the usability of the Sentinel-2 Rrs data in inland oligotrophic and mesotrophic waters was verified by accurate atmospheric correction. Second, a new optical classification method was constructed based on different water characteristics to classify waters into clear water, phytoplankton-dominated water, and water dominated by phytoplankton and suspended matter together using the thresholds of Rrs490/Rrs560 and Rrs665/Rrs560. The proposed method has a higher classification accuracy compared to other classification methods, and the band-ratio algorithm is simpler and more effective for satellite sensors without NIR bands. Third, given the sensitivity of the empirical method to water variability and the ease of development and implementation, a nonlinear least squares fitted one-dimensional nonlinear function was established based on the selection of the best-fitting spectral indices for different optical water types (OWTs) and compared with other Chl-a estimation algorithms. The validation results showed that the hybrid two-band method had the highest accuracy with squared correlation coefficient, root mean squared difference, mean absolute percentage error, and bias of 0.85, 2.93, 32.42%, and −0.75 mg/m3, respectively, and the results of the residual values further validated the applicability and reliability of the model. Finally, the performance of the classification and estimation algorithms on the four reservoirs was evaluated to obtain images mapping the Chl-a in the reservoirs. In conclusion, this study improves the accuracy of Chl-a estimation for oligotrophic and mesotrophic waters by combining a new classification algorithm with a two-band hybrid model, which is an important contribution to solving the problem of low resolution and high uncertainty in the retrieval of Chl-a in oligotrophic and mesotrophic waters in small- and medium-sized reservoirs and has the potential to be applied to other optically similar oligotrophic and mesotrophic lakes and reservoirs using similar spectrally satellite sensors. The accuracy and reliability of satellite precipitation products (SPPs) are important for their applications. In this study, four recently presented SPPs, namely, GSMaP_Gauge, GSMaP_NRT, IMERG, and MSWEP, were evaluated against daily observations from 2344 gauges of mainland China from 2001 to 2018. Bivariate Moran's I (BMI), a method that has demonstrated high applicability in characterizing spatial correlation and dependence, was first used in research to assess their spatial correlations with gauge observations. Results from four conventional indices indicate that MSWEP exhibited the best performance, with a correlation coefficient of 0.78, an absolute deviation of 1.6, a relative bias of −5%, and a root mean square error of 5. Six precipitation indices were selected to further evaluate the spatial correlation between the SPPs and gauge observations. MSWEP demonstrated the best spatial correlation in annual total precipitation, annual precipitation days, continuous wet days, continuous dry days, and very wet day precipitation with global BMI of 0.95, 0.78, 0.78, 0.78, and 0.87, respectively. Meanwhile, IMERG showed superiority in terms of maximum daily precipitation with a global BMI value of 0.91. IMERG also exhibited superior performance in quantifying the annual count days that experience precipitation events exceeding 25 mm and 50 mm, with a global BMI of 0.96, 0.92. In four sub-regions, these products exhibited significant regional characteristics. MSWEP demonstrated the highest spatial correlation with gauge observations in terms of total and persistent indices in the four sub-regions, while IMERG had the highest global BMI for extreme indices. In general, global BMI can quantitatively compare the spatial correlation between SPPs and gauge observations. The Local Indicator of Spatial Association (LISA) cluster map provides clear visual representation of areas that are significantly overestimated or underestimated. The diffuse attenuation coefficient for the downwelling irradiance K d z , λ is a critical parameter in terms of the optical properties of the ocean. In the northwestern South China Sea, there are complex physical processes, and the accurate estimation of K d z , λ in the northwestern South China Sea is critical for the study and application of the underwater light field and water constituents. In this study, using Hydrolight 6.0 (HL60) software, K d z , λ was simulated based on the inherent optical properties (IOPs) and chlorophyll a concentration dataset in the northwestern South China Sea. The simulations were in good agreement with the results calculated by the model of Lee (2005), and the spectral characteristics of K d z , λ were consistent with several oceanic types according to Jerlov's classification. The horizontal and vertical distribution characteristics of K d (z , 490) were studied in the two typical upwelling areas of eastern Hainan Island and eastern Vietnam. K d (z , 490) in eastern Hainan Island exhibited an overall decreasing trend from west to east at the same depth, while the vertical depth of the maximum value of K d (z , 490) in eastern Hainan Island was found to increase from west to east, which was significantly associated with the distribution trend of the temperature and salinity. K d (z , 490) in eastern Vietnam exhibited unique horizontal and vertical distribution characteristics due to upwelling, with a low temperature and high salinity. A satisfactory linear relationship between K d (z , 490) and K d z , λ was found from 420   t o   580   n m with R 2 > 0.76, root mean square (RMSE) ≤ 0.010 m − 1 , and mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) < 9%, and this result indicated that K d z , λ from 420 ~ 580   n m could be estimated with K d (z , 490) . The regression accuracy sharply decreased after 580 nm, indicating that K d z , λ estimation based on K d (z , 490) can be more suitably achieved from 420~580 nm and becomes inaccurate after 580 nm. Based on the simulations, an empirical relationship for Z S D D estimation involving K d , 10 % 490 was developed, and Z S D D in the northwestern South China Sea was calculated, with a range of 5–23 m and a suitable agreement with Z S D D obtained via the method of Lee (2018). To further improve the prediction accuracy of the critical frequency of the ionospheric F2 layer (foF2), we use the machine learning method (ML) to establish an explanatory dynamic model to predict foF2. Firstly, according to the ML modeling process, the three elements of establishing a prediction model of foF2 and four problems to be solved are determined, and the idea and concrete steps of model building are determined. Then the data collection is explained in detail, and according to the modeling process, foF2 dynamic change mapping and its parameters are determined in turn. Finally, the established model is compared with the International Reference Ionospheric model (IRI-2016) and the Asian Regional foF2 Model (ARFM) to verify the validity and reliability. The results show that compared with the IRI-URSI, IRI-CCIR, and ARFM models, the statistical average error of the established model decreased by 0.316 MHz, 0.132 MHz, and 0.007 MHz, respectively. Satellite validation is the process of comparing satellite measurements with in-situ measurements to ensure their accuracy. Satellite and in-situ sea surface salinity (SSS) measurements are different due to instrumental errors (IE), retrieval errors (RE), and representation differences (RD). In real-world data, IE, RE, and RD are inseparable, but validations seek to quantify only instrumental and retrieval error. Our goal is to determine which of four methods comparing in-situ and satellite measurements minimizes RD most effectively, which includes differences due to mismatches in the location and timing of the measurement, as well as representation error caused by the averaging of satellite measurements over a footprint. IE and RE were obviated by using simulated Argo float, and L2 NASA/SAC-D Aquarius, NASA·SMAP, and ESA·SMOS data generated from the high-resolution ECCO (Estimating the Climate and Circulation of the Oceans) model SSS data. The methods tested include the all-salinity difference averaging method (ASD), the N closest method (NCLO), which is an averaging method that is optimized for different satellites and regions of the ocean, and two single salinity difference methods—closest in space (SSDS) and closest in time (SSDT). The root mean square differences (RMSD) between the simulated in-situ and satellite measurements in seven regions of the ocean are used as a measure of the effectiveness of each method. The optimization of NCLO is examined to determine how the optimum matchup strategy changes depending on satellite track and region. We find that the NCLO method marginally produces the lowest RMSD in all regions but invoking a regionally optimized method is far more computationally expensive than the other methods. We find that averaging methods smooth IE, thus perhaps misleadingly lowering the detected instrumental error in the L2 product by as much as 0.15 PSU. It is apparent from our results that the dynamics of a particular region have more of an effect on matchup success than the method used. We recommend the SSDT validation strategy because it is more computationally efficient than NCLO, considers the proximity of in-situ and satellite measurements in both time and space, does not smooth instrumental errors with averaging, and generally produces RMSD values only slightly higher than the optimized NCLO method. Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) has advantages in detecting individual trees because it can obtain information on the vertical structure and even on the lower layers. However, the current methods still cannot detect understory well, because the small trees are often clumped together and overlapped by large trees. To fill this gap, a two-stage network named Tree Region-Based Convolutional Neural Network (RCNN) was proposed to directly detect trees from point clouds. In the first stage, very dense anchors are generated anywhere in a forest. Then, Tree RCNN can directly focus on determining whether an anchor belongs to an individual tree or not and generate tree proposals based on the anchors. In this way, the small trees overlapped by big trees can be detected in the process. In the second stage, multi-position feature extraction is proposed to extract shape features of the tree proposals output in the first stage to refine the tree proposals. The positions and heights of detected trees can be obtained by the refined tree proposals. The performance of our method was estimated by a public dataset. Compared to methods provided by the dataset and the commonly used deep learning methods, Tree RCNN achieved the best performance, especially for the lower-layer trees. The root mean square value of detection rates (RMSass) of all plots of the dataset reached 61%, which was 6 percentage points higher than the best RMSass of other methods. The RMSass of the layers < 5 m, 5–10 m, 10–15 m, and 15–20 reached 20%, 38%, 48%, and 61%, which was 5, 6, 7, and 3 percentage points higher than the best RMSass of other methods, respectively. Ionospheric delay is one of the most problematic errors in satellite-based positioning data processing. The Global Ionospheric Map (GIM), which is publicly available daily in various analysis centers, is thus vitally important for positioning users. There are variations in the accuracy and consistency of GIMs issued by Ionosphere Associate Analysis Centers (IAACs) due to the differences in ionospheric modeling methods and selected tracking stations. In this study on the International GNSS Service's (IGS) final GIM, the ionospheric total electron content (TEC) (from 243 global navigation satellite system (GNSS) monitoring stations around the world) and the ionospheric TEC (from the Jason-3 altimeter satellite) are selected as reference. By using these three references, we evaluate the performance and consistency of final GIM products from seven IGS IAACs, including the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), the Center for Orbit Determination in Europe (CODE), Natural Resources Canada (EMR), the European Space Agency (ESA), the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), and Wuhan University (WHU) in the mid-solar activity year (2022) and the low-solar activity year (2020). Firstly, the comparison with the IGS final GIM shows that the consistency of each GIMs is basically the same, with the mean value ranging from −0.3 TECu (total electron content unit) to 1.4 TECu. Secondly, the validation with Jason-3 altimeter satellite shows that the accuracy of several GIMs is almost the same, except for the JPL with the worst accuracy and an overall mean deviation (BIAS) between 2 and 6 TECu. Thirdly, the comparison with VTEC extracted from GNSS monitor stations shows that the CAS has the best accuracy in different latitude bands with a root mean square (RMS) of about 2.2–4.7 TECu. In addition, it is found that the accuracy in areas with more stations for ionospheric modelling is better than those with less stations in different latitude bands; meanwhile, the accuracy is closely related to the modeling methods of different GIMs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Assessing soil erosion in China's severely eroded Loess Plateau is urgently needed but is usually limited by suitable erosion models and long-term field measurements. In this study, we coupled the Thorens and Soil Conservation Service (SCS) models to evaluate runoff and sediment yield during the 1980s and 2010s in the Xiaolihe watershed on the Loess Plateau. Results showed the proposed model framework had a satisfactory performance in modelling spatially distributed runoff and sediment yield. The Nash–Sutcliffe efficiency (NSE), percent bias (PBIAS) and the root mean square error-measured standard deviation ratio (RSR) were 0.93, 4.42% and 0.27 for monthly runoff; and 0.31, 62.31% and 0.82 for monthly sediment yield. The effects of land use changes on runoff and sediment yield were well captured by the SCS and Thorens models. The proposed modelling framework is distributed with a simple structure, requires relatively little data that can be obtained from public datasets, and can be used to predict runoff and sediment yield in other similar ungagged or poorly monitored watersheds. This work has important implications for runoff and erosion assessment in other arid and semi-arid regions, to derive runoff and erosion rates across large areas with scarce field measurements. The precise point positioning service on B2b signal (PPP-B2b) is a real-time decimeter-level positioning service provided by the BeiDou-3 Global Navigation Satellite System (BDS-3). The service provides users with high-precision orbit and clock corrections through geostationary orbit (GEO) satellites, which means that the PPP-B2b service would be unusable if GEO satellites were blocked. In this study, the performance of PPP-B2b corrections and real-time positioning results during outages of the PPP-B2b service are comprehensively investigated. The results showed that PPP can achieve satisfactory accuracy during outages of the PPP-B2b service by extending the nominal validity of the received PPP-B2b corrections. After extending the PPP-B2b corrections for 10 min, for BDS-3 medium earth orbit (MEO) satellites, the mean root-mean-square error (RMSE) values of the extended orbit were 0.16 m, 0.26 m, and 0.23 m in the radial, along-, and cross-track directions, respectively. The accuracy of the BDS-3 inclined geostationary orbit (IGSO) satellites was slightly worse than that of the BDS-3 MEO satellites; for Global Positioning System (GPS) satellites, the mean RMSE values of the extended orbit were 0.11 m, 0.45 m, and 0.33 m in the radial, along-, and cross-track directions, respectively. In terms of the extended clock, the mean standard deviation (STD) reached 0.17 ns, 0.20 ns, and 0.22 ns after 10 min for the BDS-3 MEO, BDS-3 IGSO, and GPS satellites, respectively. The positioning performance maintained with the extended corrections during the PPP-B2b service outage was evaluated based on five stations in and around China. Our experiments showed that, as long as the interruption time does not exceed 10 min, the real-time positioning with extended PPP-B2b corrections can achieve a comparable accuracy with that obtained following PPP-B2b correction. GNSS equipped buoys remain an important tool in altimetry validation. Progressive advances in altimetry missions require associated development in such validation tools. In this paper, we enhanced an existing buoy approach and gained further understanding of the buoy dynamics based on in situ observations. First, we implemented the capability to separate the ambiguity fixing strategy for different constellations in the processing software TRACK. A comparison between GPS and GNSS solutions suggested up to 3 cm reduction in the root mean square of the buoy minus co-located mooring SSH residuals over the selected sidereal periods. Then, comparison between double differencing and precise point positioning solutions suggested a possible common mode error external to GNSS processing. To assess buoy performance in different ocean conditions and sea states, GNSS and INS observations were used during periods where external forcings (waves, current and wind) were not interacting substantially. For the deployments investigated, no significant relationship was found, noting the maximum significant wave height and current velocity was ~2.3 m and ~0.3 m/s, respectively.
