Measuring and assessing information literacy (IL) competencies is essential to understand its educational impact as well as to explore pedagogies to improve it. This study is the first to acquire knowledge about Singapore tertiary students' skills in searching, evaluating, and using information. A total of 534 students from the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore participated in this study through an online survey. Moderate IL skills scores of the respondents showed room for improvement especially in higher-level skills related to information use, synthesis, and evaluation. Students receiving pretertiary education in Singapore scored higher than those from overseas did, which, to some extent, showed that IL education in Singapore is still more effective than that in some other countries. Higher education librarians and faculty members alike are faced with an ever-expanding palette of technologies available for instructional use. Efforts between these two groups to collaborate in information literacy programs can greatly benefit from the incorporation of some of these new technologies. This article presents the results of a survey of 118 faculty members at Western Michigan University; conducted in 2011, it had three aims: (1) to gauge current faculty perceptions about library research instruction; (2) to determine how faculty are using technology in instruction; and (3) to examine faculty insights regarding the integration of different technological formats into future library instruction. The three technologies most preferred were online videos, personal or WMU homepages, and discussion boards. Faculty in education and social sciences were the heaviest users of technology. Looking forward, faculty were most interested in shorter, more targeted face-to-face instructional sessions and in asynchronous online instruction, such as tutorials and class guides. The University Libraries has begun to reshape its information literacy program based on the survey results, and has started to incorporate more library research instruction into the new campus learning management system. The article discusses the role of library information literacy courses in supporting graduate students in interdisciplinary research. It focuses on challenges faced by graduate researchers and suggests that an information literacy course can aid student researchers on various levels. In particular, information literacy can help graduate students learn about an unfamiliar discipline, locate the works of key authors and research institutions, and determine when they have gathered enough information. Topics include the information-seeking behaviors of interdisciplinary researchers, citation and browsing activity, and the importance of monitoring developments in disciplinary fields.

The article looks at the information literacy programs at universities and colleges and discusses the importance of the integration of information literacy to the teaching and learning process. Librarians at Butler University's College of Business Administration identified learning objectives for course instruction and planned library-instruction sessions. At the university of Auckland Business School, electronic information literacy instruction was integrated in a management course. At Pennsylvania State University, they used problem-based learning in their course-integrated library instruction. Trough information literacy programs, learning communities increase their academic achievement, retention, motivation, intellectual development, learning and community involvement.
