The hostile atmosphere around most of the National Health Service's organizations' as they prepare to lay off workers in large numbers, due to Prime Minister Tony Blair's assumption that these organizations were working inefficiently, is discussed. The South and West Regional Health Authority has announced a management shake-up at its SWift computer center. The National Health Service (NHS) Executive has announced plans to lay off 292 staffers at it headquarters in Leeds, England. The job cuts, which affect 24% of NHS Executive's current workforce, are to be undertaken before the end of 1995. Some 90 new jobs, however, are also scheduled to be created in the planned reorganization, although they are not necessarily going to be filled by staffers made redundant.
