A major goal in the development of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 Restructured Form (MMPI-2-RF), and subsequently, the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-3 (MMPI-3) was linking the instrument to contemporary models of psychopathology. The present study evaluated whether the higher order structure of MMPI-3 scales, and in particular, the 26 Specific Problems as well as RC6 and RC8 (markers of thought disorder) scales aligned with the Hierarchical Taxonomy of Psychopathology (HiTOP) model. For this purpose, a large diverse mental health sample (n = 1,537) and a male prison inmate sample (n = 452) were used to capture a diverse range of psychopathology. Confirmatory factor analyses generally supported the six HiTOP spectra in both samples, albeit with some important qualifications. Associations between latent factor scores and conceptually relevant external criterion measures further supported the validity of this model. Furthermore, Goldberg's sequential hierarchical factoring approach was used to evaluate the structure of MMPI-3 SP and RC6/RC8 at descending levels of the hierarchy. Again, most of the HiTOP spectra were replicated. The structures for the mental health and prison samples were generally similar with substantive differences being linked to their respective contexts. Overall, the results indicate that the hierarchical organization of the MMPI-3 scales is generally consistent with the extant psychopathology literature, which constitutes good support for overall construct validity of the scales. To evaluate the psychometric properties of the Italian translation of the Schedule for Nonadaptive and Adaptive Personality-2 (SNAP-2) diagnostic scales, 837 Italian community-dwelling adults and 429 consecutively admitted Italian psychiatric adults were administered the SNAP-2. The 12 SNAP-2 diagnostic scales yielded reliable scores in both community (median ω value =.90) and psychiatric (median ω value =.92) samples. The 6-month temporal stability was adequate for all SNAP-2 diagnostic scales (median test–retest r-value =.84) in a subsample of the community-dwelling adults (n = 97). When we examined the correlations between the SNAP-2 diagnostic scales and the Five-Factor Model Rating Form trait scales among the community-dwelling adults, the double-entry intraclass correlation values (median ICCDE =.94) indicated a marked similarity between our correlation profiles and the correlation profiles that were reported in Samuel and Widiger (2008) meta-analysis. In our psychiatric-adult sample, the SNAP-2 diagnostic scales showed adequate convergent-validity coefficients (median r-value =.61) with criterion measures of DSM-IV axis II/DSM-5 Section II personality disorders (PDs). Finally, relative-weight analysis results showed that selected Personality Inventory for DSM-5 trait-scale scores explained a substantial amount of variance in SNAP-2 antisocial, avoidant, borderline, narcissistic, obsessive–compulsive, and schizotypal PD scale scores (median R2 value =.55). As a whole, our data suggest that the Italian SNAP-2 diagnostic scales have adequate reliability and construct validity in the Italian culture. Because the construct of psychopathy is of chief interest across different disciplines, spanning developmental, clinical, and forensic psychology, its assessment bears far-reaching implications. One prominent contemporary conceptualization of psychopathy, the Triarchic Model, posits that a psychopathic personality encompasses three phenotypic constructs: boldness, meanness, and disinhibition. Recently, triarchic scales have been derived based on items from the Multidimensional Personality Questionnaire (MPQ), and the psychometric characteristics of this approach (MPQ-triarchic [MPQ-Tri]) are promising. The present study examined the longitudinal measurement invariance and the construct validity of the MPQ-Tri scales in a large and diverse high-risk sample (N = 716) across four time points from age 16–25. First, we report and discuss implications of confirmatory and exploratory factor analyses of the MPQ-Tri scales. Next, we report evidence for longitudinal configural and partial scalar invariance. In addition, in line with previous studies, MPQ-Boldness showed relatively higher levels of rank-order and mean-level stability compared to MPQ-Meanness and Disinhibition. Finally, in terms of construct validity, the MPQ-Tri scales showed a pattern of association with external correlates across internalizing and externalizing domains that were largely in line with theoretical expectations. One partial exception concerned the limited discriminant validity of the MPQ-Meanness and Disinhibition scales. On balance, the present findings suggest that the MPQ-Tri scales fulfill their intended purpose, with some noted limitation, and provide grounds for the use of the MPQ-Tri scales in developmentally-informed studies on the etiology and consequences of psychopathy. Relational aggression—or behavior intended to harm the relationships of its victims—has been the focus of interdisciplinary study across developmental, clinical, personality, and social psychology in the last several decades. One of the primary measures used to assess relational aggression in youth is the Children's Social Behavior Scale (CSBS; Crick & Grotpeter, 1995), but despite its common usage, the construct validity of this measure has not been comprehensively assessed. In the present study, we used a multistage construct validity framework to thoroughly investigate the nature of relational aggression across six community samples totaling 3,102 youth and their caregivers. We used multiple methods to map the reliability, internal or structural validity, and external validity of this scale. Through these analyses, we found that CSBS Relational Aggression demonstrated strong internal consistency, test–retest, and interrater reliability as well as a robust single factor structure and invariance across multiple demographic groups. External validity analyses positioned relational aggression within a theoretically consistent nomological net including psychopathology, personality, and social developmental factors. Contrary to concerns about the validity of self- and parent-reports of relational aggression, both parent- and youth-report forms of the CSBS Relational Aggression scale demonstrated strong reliability and validity. While construct validation has received inadequate attention in the psychological literature to date, through this project, we aimed to demonstrate how this approach may be used to investigate existing measures across psychological research. As research and clinical settings increasingly emphasize questions of change, it is crucial that our mechanistic and outcome variables are established as reliable and valid measures of such change. However, there is often a mismatch between the purposes for which symptom measures were developed and validated versus their application. Traditional psychometric theory has focused largely on between-person change, whereas increasingly research and clinical questions concern within-person change. We examined the psychometric properties of two commonly used measures of obsessive–compulsive symptoms (Yale–Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale, YBOCS; Dimensional Obsessive–Compulsive Scale, DOCS) within a longitudinal treatment context (N = 570). Regarding reliability, we applied traditional (i.e., internal consistency at each week) and novel methods that allow for examination of the reliability of both within- and between-person change (i.e., variance partitioning based on generalizability theory). We examined longitudinal concurrent validity by correlating per-person slopes of obsessive–compulsive and depression symptom measures obtained via mixed-effects models. Within-person change reliability was acceptable or good for the YBOCS and DOCS total scores (.77,.83), suggesting that these measures are capable of capturing meaningful changes that exist within persons over time, and between-person change reliability was excellent (.99–1.0). Per-person slopes analyses supported the longitudinal concurrent validity of both measures. Our data support the continued use of the YBOCS and DOCS as measures of obsessive–compulsive symptoms for the purpose of many longitudinal research questions. The current study provides a template for reestablishing the psychometric properties of other commonly used measures in the context of longitudinal investigations. The Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale's (CD-RISC) 10 item variant has previously demonstrated acceptable psychometric properties of its test scores using traditional methods (e.g., confirmatory factor analysis), and concurrent validity with resilience-related outcomes, particularly in samples of younger adults. While alternative methods of examining the psychometric properties of the long-form CD-RISC exist in the literature, the short-form measure has unclear evidence of local item independence and a unidimensional structure, which are key assumptions of a polytomous Rasch model approach to examining the measure's psychometric properties. The current study employed a sample of young adult university students (n = 708, x ¯ age = 26.43 years (s = 7.77)) on their nursing practicum placements to examine the CD-RISC-10 against the polytomous Rasch measurement model criteria. The analyses suggested a seven-item variant of the CD-RISC-10 performed acceptably, and omitted issues with local item dependence and item misfit. Effect sizes of the standardized parameters estimated for the 7-item and original 10-item versions of the CD-RISC-10, when predicting compassion fatigue and compassion satisfaction, were small (s = −0.24, s = −0.23) and moderate (s = 0.48, s = 0.47) for the respective measures, which suggested similar efficacy when examining the test scores' concurrent validity. The shorter version of the CD-RISC-10 consequently demonstrated generally acceptable psychometric properties for its test scores, and remained a parsimonious approach to examining individual psychological resilience that will benefit from further development. A forced-choice (FC) recognition trial was recently developed as an embedded validity indicator for the Rey Auditory Verbal Learning Test (RAVLT), although it has not been replicated outside of the initial validation study. This study cross-validated the RAVLT FC trial for detecting invalid neuropsychological test performance and assessed the degree to which material-specific verbal memory impairment severity impacts its classification accuracy as a performance validity test (PVT). This cross-sectional study included 172 neuropsychiatric patients who completed the RAVLT and 4 independent criterion PVTs, which were used to classify validity groups (134 valid/38 invalid). Overall results showed the RAVLT FC had excellent classification accuracy for detecting invalid performance at a ≤13 cut-score (66% sensitivity/87% specificity). When patients were subdivided by memory impairment status, FC retained excellent classification accuracy among the normal memory and mild memory impairment groups with 66%–82% sensitivity and ≥89% specificity. Accuracy decreased among those with severe memory impairment, but remained significant with a lower, alternative cut-score of ≤11 (37% sensitivity/88% specificity). Findings were consistent with FC trials developed for other memory measures and support the utility of this novel RAVLT FC index for reliably identifying invalid performance, even in the context of significant verbal memory impairment. Public Significance Statement: The Rey Auditory Verbal Learning Test (RAVLT) is a well-validated and commonly used verbal learning/memory test in neuropsychological evaluation. This article describes the development and validation of the Intrapersonal Problems Rating Scales (IPRS), a multidimensional measure of self-related problems in personality functioning. Results from a series of factor analyses performed on self-ratings of over 200 problems revealed seven distinct but interrelated domains of intrapersonal problems: Emotion Dysregulation, Internalizing, Lack of Will, Externalizing, Scrupulousness, Fantasy Proneness, and Apathy. Items were selected and scales built for an efficient assessment of each problem area. The psychometric properties of the resulting scales were then evaluated in an independent sample. Convergent and discriminant validity support for the IPRS was obtained via correlations with respect to three measures of social, emotional, and behavioral problems. The scales associated with a range of personal styles and dispositions and predicted diverse self-reported attitudinal and behavioral criteria even after the effects of normal and maladaptive-range personality traits were removed. Two scoring systems (normative and ipsative, or person-centered, scoring) revealed a differential pattern of associations both internally and with external measures. Interpretive differences between the two scoring procedures are highlighted and potential practical applications of the IPRS are discussed. The instrument can provide additional information not fully accounted for by measures of traits or social functioning and be useful to researchers and practitioners alike to identify, understand, and track changes in a range of intrapersonal problems. The cognitive attentional syndrome (CAS), a multidimensional construct that consists of maladaptive forms of self-regulation, is central to the metacognitive model. Despite the CAS's central importance to the metacognitive model, as well as evidence that components of the CAS are risk factors for the development of emotional disorders, a psychometrically sound self-report measure that accounts for the multidimensional nature of the CAS has yet to be developed. The present set of studies details the development and initial validation of the Multidimensional Cognitive Attentional Syndrome Scale (MCASS). In study 1, a pool of 69 items, assessing the seven self-regulation strategies of the CAS, was administered to U.S. adults recruited through a crowd-sourcing website (N = 323). Structural analyses supported the proposed 7-factor solution and three items with the highest loadings on each factor, without salient cross-loadings, were retained. In Study 2, adult participants (N = 389) completed a battery of self-report measures, including the retained 21 MCASS items. The reduced item pool was examined using both first- and second-order measurement models. The 7-factor first-order measurement model and the second-order measurement model, with each of the first-order factors loading on a higher-order construct (i.e., CAS), provided adequate model fit. Each of the seven, first-order factors exhibited significant loadings on the second-order construct. Convergent, discriminant, and concurrent validity analyses further supported the construct validity of the MCASS scale scores. The MCASS may be particularly useful for examining the theoretical underpinnings of the metacognitive model, as well as for more comprehensive clinical monitoring of the CAS. This study evaluated the measurement and construct validity of the Eating Disorder Examination Questionnaire Short Form (EDE-QS) in a transgender and gender diverse sample. Participants who self-identified as transgender and gender diverse (N = 71) completed self-report measures of demographics, gender-related experiences, and disordered eating/body image. Analyses comprised evaluation of EDE-QS internal consistency, convergent validity, and specificity for disordered eating. The EDE-QS demonstrated strong internal consistency in the full sample, in participants with and without suspected eating disorders, and in each gender identity group; and correlated significantly with indices of disordered eating and body image. The full scale and each item significantly differentiated between participants with and without suspected eating disorders. This study provides initial evidence for good measurement and construct validity of the EDE-QS as applied to transgender and gender diverse individuals. Findings offer the EDE-QS as a promising, brief tool for screening and/or population-based research related to disordered eating in this high-risk, yet underserved population. The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory–3 (MMPI-3) is the most recent installment in the MMPI family of instruments. It contains a new scale, Self-Importance (SFI), which was designed to assess grandiosity. Although initial data in the MMPI-3 Technical Manual have been supportive of its construct validity, no published research studies have evaluated this scale to date. The current study examined the internal structure, criterion validity, and incremental validity of the SFI scale in a large sample (n = 645) of university students. The 10 SFI items loaded on one latent factor in a well-fitting model, and item response theory parameters indicated good information coverage across a broad range of the underlying construct. SFI scale scores correlated with several measures of narcissistic personality disorder and grandiose narcissism, but were weakly associated with vulnerable narcissism scales. The SFI scale scores also accounted for incremental variance in a range of criterion measures above and beyond scores of other MMPI-3 Specific Problems scales and the MMPI-3 Personality Psychopathology Five scales. The current finding supported the SFI scale as a distinct and complementary measure of grandiosity for the MMPI-3. Perceived partner responsiveness (PPR; Reis & Shaver, Handbook of personal relationships, 1988, Wiley)—the belief that one's partner will attend to core concerns—is a construct in basic relationship research that can help evaluate intimacy in couple therapy. However, research into PPR is hampered by a lack of standardized measurement. Three studies were undertaken to develop and evaluate an optimized self-report PPR measure. In Study 1, n = 2,334 respondents completed 246 candidate items derived from 19 PPR measures. Exploratory factor analyses identified two underlying dimensions, Responsiveness and Insensitivity. Item response theory was used to develop two 8-item subscales for the Perceived Responsiveness and Insensitivity scale (PRI), both of which showed incremental prediction over global satisfaction. In Study 2, n = 173 respondents completed the brief PRI along with measures of global relationship evaluations and concrete relationship behaviors every other week for 8 weeks. Random intercept cross-lagged panel models found the PRI subscales were more sensitive than global evaluations to fluctuations in support and conflict. In Study 3, n = 161 heterosexual couples completed the brief PRI along with self-reports of responsive and insensitive behaviors. Actor–partner interdependence models demonstrated the PRI subscales were associated with partners' self-reported behaviors even after controlling for own behaviors. Thus, the PRI offers a PPR measure that demonstrates desirable properties for treatment research including (a) incremental validity over global satisfaction, (b) ability to detect meaningful change over time, and (c) sensitivity to partners' behaviors in the relationship. Public Significance Statement: This study developed the Perceived Responsiveness and Insensitivity scale (PRI), psychometrically optimized 16-item and 8-item scales of the degree to which individuals feel understood and validated by close others. To assess noncredible performance on the NIH Toolbox Cognitive Battery (NIHTB-CB), we developed embedded validity indicators (EVIs). Data were collected from 98 adults (54.1% female) as part of a prospective multicenter cross-sectional study at 4 mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) specialty clinics. Traditional EVIs and novel item-based EVIs were developed for the NIHTB-CB using the Medical Symptom Validity Test (MSVT) as criterion. The signal detection profile of individual EVIs varied greatly. Multivariate models had superior classification accuracy. Failing ≥4 traditional EVIs at the liberal cutoff or ≥3 at the conservative cutoff produced a good combination of sensitivity (.57 to .61) and specificity (.92 to .94) to MSVT. Combining the traditional and item-based EVIs improved sensitivity (.65 to .70) at comparable specificity (.91 to .95). In conclusion, newly developed EVIs within the NIHTB-CB effectively discriminated between patients who passed versus failed the MSVT. Aggregating EVIs within the same category into validity composites improved signal detection over univariate cutoffs. Item-based EVIs improved classification accuracy over that of traditional EVIs. This study examined the factorial, convergent, and discriminant validity of scores on the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ), a tool for screening children's psychological adjustment. Data were collected from a community sample of 346 children (46% girls, M age = 54.07 months), using teacher, mother, and father reports. Results from confirmatory factor analyses indicated that the SDQ's hypothesized 5-factor structure fit the data well and partial strict measurement invariance was established across raters. Using teachers' reports as reference method, a correlated trait-correlated method minus 1 model (Eid et al., 2008) was fitted to investigate convergent and discriminant validity. The convergent validity of parents' ratings relative to teachers' ratings was modest. Mothers and fathers had a unique perspective on children's behavior above and beyond their partial overlap with teacher reports. Trait self-control is important for well-being and mental and physical health. Most extant measures of self-control are limited in that they do not account for the multidimensionality and specificity of the trait. The aim of this study was to develop and validate a multidimensional and hierarchical scale of self-control in a full and a short version. The development of the Multidimensional Self-Control Scale (MSCS) and the Brief Multidimensional Self-Control Scale (BMSCS) was based on focus groups, a pilot, a main, and a validation sample (total N = 2,409). The 29-item MSCS consists of 6 first-order factors (Procrastination, Attentional Control, Impulse Control, Emotional Control, Goal Orientation, and Self-Control Strategies), 2 second-order factors (Inhibition and Initiation), and a third-order self-control factor. The 8 items in BMSCS provides a general trait self-control score. Findings from exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses supported the structures across samples, and internal consistency was acceptable. Assessment for acquiescence and sex differences indicated no major impacts on the scales. Strong convergent validity was observed with the Self-Control Scale (SCS) and the Brief Self-Control Scale (BSCS), as well as to other similar concepts. The MSCS subscales discriminated well between each other. Assessment of incremental validity of the MSCS over SCS, when controlling for sex and personality, showed significant increases in explained variance when predicting habits, hardiness, and life satisfaction. Similar significant results were observed for the BMSCS over the BSCS. Emerging evidence shows that the construct validity of commonly used chronic stress measures is questionable. Item response theory was used to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Perceived Stress Questionnaire (PSQ), the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), and the Screening Scale of Chronic Stress (SSCS). Using multidimensional item response modeling of data from two population-based samples (N₁ = 5,379, N₂ = 504), we identified and conceptually replicated a five-dimensional model combining items of chronic stress, neuroticism (i.e., Big Five Inventory Neuroticism scale; BFI-N), and depressiveness (i.e., Patient Health Questionnaire depressiveness scale; PHQ-9). The findings suggested a major overlap of variance between items of the applied instruments forming a pronounced common latent scale, which appeared to be mainly based on the perceived extent of freely available energy (i.e., vitality vs. fatigue). Accordingly, the overlap between items of the PSQ, PSS, and SSCS was larger with PHQ-9 items than BFI-N items. Specifically, items of chronic stress seem to discriminate subclinical manifestations of fatigue, a core symptom of depressiveness. Subsequently estimated person parameters were used to predict hair cortisol concentrations (HCC), a physiological indicator of chronic stress. Controlling for potential confounders, only the common latent scale showed a weak association with HCC, whereas residual variance components were not predictive of HCC. Proper assessment and diagnosis of eating disorders (EDs) are critical to determine to whom prevention and treatment efforts should be targeted, the extent to which treatment is working, and when an individual has recovered. Although existing ED diagnostic interviews have numerous strengths, they also have certain limitations, including poor internal consistency, low discriminant validity, and poor factor-structure replicability. The purpose of the current study was to address problems of past ED diagnostic interviews through the creation of a new clinician-rated interview-the Eating Pathology Symptoms Inventory-Clinician-Rated Version (EPSI-CRV). The EPSI-CRV was designed to measure dimensional constructs assessed in the self-report version of the EPSI and generate current Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (5th ed.; DSM-5; American Psychiatric Association, 2013) diagnoses. Participants were community-recruited adults with a DSM-5 ED (N = 257). Participants completed self-report and interview-based measures of eating, mood, and anxiety disorders and self-report measures of psychiatric impairment. The EPSI-CRV demonstrated evidence for interrater reliability, convergent and discriminant validity, and a good-fitting factor structure. EPSI-CRV dimensions showed concurrent validity for distinguishing among ED diagnoses. Baseline EPSI-CRV dimensions significantly predicted psychiatric impairment at baseline but not at 1-year follow-up. Although some scales had lower internal consistency than ideal, internal consistency values were similar to those of other established diagnostic measures. The Standardized Assessment of Severity of Personality Disorder (SASPD) is a 9-item self-report screening instrument and was developed to assess personality disorder (PD) severity according to the initial proposal of ICD-11. Our aim was to investigate the psychometric properties of the German version of the SASPD in nonclinical and clinical samples. A total of 1,991 participants (N = 888 from nonclinical and N = 1,103 from clinical samples) provided ratings on the SASPD as well as other measures of psychopathology and personality. We examined the SASPD regarding its factor structure, internal consistency, and construct validity. A unidimensional structure of the SASPD provided inadequate model fit, whereas a 3-factor solution provided good fit in both the nonclinical and clinical samples. Internal consistency of the SASPD total score was acceptable in the clinical and nonclinical samples based on this multifactorial model. In terms of convergent validity, SASPD scores correlated fairly with other measures of PD severity across samples. Discriminant validity with measures of general symptom distress and measures of (normal) personality traits was mixed. In addition, the SASPD scores predicted levels of PD severity above and beyond a measure of symptom distress. The SASPD captures some theoretically expected features of PD severity. The ability to decenter from internal experiences is important for mental health. Consequently, improving decentering is a common therapeutic target, particularly for mindfulness-based interventions. However, extant decentering measures are limited as they fail to directly assess all 3 metacognitive processes recently theorized to subserve decentering. We thus conducted 4 studies to develop and test the Metacognitive Processes of Decentering-Trait (MPoD-t) and State (MPoD-s) scales. Consistent with the metacognitive processes model, exploratory factor analysis (N = 355) and then bifactor exploratory structural equation modeling (N = 275) indicated the MPoD-t was composed of three independent yet interrelated lower-order factors, metaawareness, (dis)identification with internal experience, and (non)reactivity to internal experience, which subserved an emergent, higher-order, decentering factor. We next found evidence of the MPoD-t's convergent validity; as well as known-groups criterion validity, wherein mindfulness practitioners reported higher MPoD-t scores than nonpractitioners. Item response theory analyses were then used to identify a subset of 3 MPoD-t items for the MPoD-s. Finally, we found evidence that the MPoD-s was sensitive to changes in state decentering following a brief mindfulness induction relative to an active control condition; and that MPoD-s changes mediated the effect of mindfulness on levels of pain and related outcomes among a sample of preoperative surgery patients (N = 82). These studies indicate the trait and state versions of the MPoD may prove useful for the study of decentering and its constituent metacognitive processes. The Bicultural Identity Integration Scale (BIIS-2) and the Multicultural Identity Styles Scale (MISS) were designed to assess different aspects of bicultural identity. The BIIS-2 captures characteristics of a bicultural identity in the domains of affect (harmony vs. conflict) and cognition (blendedness vs. compartmentalization). The MISS measures 2 distinct strategies (hybrid and alternating identity styles) used to achieve and maintain a bicultural identity. The aims of the present study were to investigate the factor structures of MISS and BIIS-2 scores using confirmatory factor analysis and to examine potential construct overlap between the 2 measures using exploratory structural equation modeling. Measures were administered twice (11 days apart) to a sample of 836 Hispanic young adults in the United States. Confirmatory factor analytic results supported the 2-factor structure of the MISS. The BIIS-2 items patterned onto 4 factors: harmony, conflict, blendedness, and compartmentalization. Configural, metric, and scalar equivalence of the factor structures of both measures were established across time. The exploratory structural equation modeling indicated no salient cross-loadings between the MISS and the BIIS-2 subscales, and this independence was consistent across time. Interfactor correlations indicated a strong, positive relationship between the hybrid identity style and BII-blendedness subscales. Scores on the alternating identity style subscale were positively related to the BII-conflict, BII-compartmentalization, and BII-blendedness subscales. This article describes (a) the origins of, (b) rationale underlying, and (c) preliminary validity evidence for, a new ability measure of emotional understanding (EU), a major component of emotional intelligence. A novel conceptual approach-the empathic agent paradigm (EAP)-provided the theoretical foundation. The EAP results in a veridical, logically defensible scoring key, a major development for the assessment of EI, which otherwise has relied on less defensible approaches. Validity evidence for test score interpretations of the Empathic Agent Paradigm Test (EAPT) was subsequently obtained in two studies. In Study 1, participants (N = 321) completed the EAPT (α = .72 at testlet level), along with measures of classical intelligence, the Big Five personality traits, and a situational judgment measure of EU. This study provides factorial, convergent, and discriminant validity evidence for EAPT test score interpretations. In Study 2 (N = 158), an important assumption about the response processes in the EAPT was verified experimentally, in the process providing further validity evidence for test score interpretations. The study of psychopathic traits in youth is in its nascent stages and the nature and the structure of these traits is still poorly understood. In one of the most comprehensive analyses to date of the construct validity of the widely used Antisocial Processing Screening Device (APSD), we used two independent samples of youth, one community (N = 2203) and one clinic-referred (N = 534), ages 4 to 19 (51% female), to investigate the external correlates of the Callous-unemotionality (CU), Narcissism, and Impulsivity dimensions of youth psychopathy. We used parent reports of externalizing and internalizing psychopathology, personality, and aggressive behavior to examine the pattern of associations between psychopathic trait dimensions and relevant external correlates. Across both samples, CU was positively related to all forms of externalizing psychopathology and aggression, mostly unrelated to internalizing psychopathology, and negatively related to agreeableness and conscientiousness. Narcissism and Impulsivity were positively related to externalizing psychopathology, and aggression, negatively related to agreeableness and conscientiousness, and weakly positively related to internalizing psychopathology. In most cases, each dimension of the APSD manifested statistically significantly different relations with these external correlates. Many of our findings replicate and extend work conducted with both youth and adults, although others suggest that these dimensions do not distinguish among psychopathological domains in conceptually expected ways. Intimate partner aggression (IPA) is a complex construct composed of the means and the motivations by which a person harms his or her intimate partner. Existing measures only assess forms of IPA perpetration while neglecting to measure the motivations for aggressing. The present study sought to fill this lacuna by adapting and validating an existing measure of the forms and functions of adolescent peer aggression to assess IPA perpetration in adults. This new measure-the Forms and Functions of Intimate Partner Aggression (FFIPA)-comprises 4 latent dimensions of IPA (i.e., overt, relational, proactive, and reactive). Participants were 341 heavy-drinking heterosexual couples (N = 682) with a recent history of psychological and/or physical IPA recruited from 2 metropolitan cities in the United States. The FFIPA demonstrated good model fit and internal validity. Unique patterns of convergent and criterion-related validity supported the 4 dimensions of the FFIPA. Results also indicated women perpetrated significantly more overt and relational aggression than men. Findings support the FFIPA as a valid measure of the forms and functions of IPA perpetration. More important, as the only instrument that parses the forms and functions of IPA perpetration, the FFIPA delineates the unique motivations of an aggressive partner separately from the form of his or her aggressive behavior(s). Clinical and personality research and theorizing has benefitted from assessing people's experiences of interpersonal problems, but these assessments have neglected assessing people's subjective perceptions of impairments and benefits from such problems. To address this gap, 2 studies tested the reliability and validity of 2 interpersonal circumplex-based measures of subjectively perceived impairments ("Circumplex Scales of Interpersonal Problems-Impairments" or "CSIP-Impairments") and benefits ("CSIP-Benefits") from prototypically problematic interpersonal tendencies. Study 1 (N = 291) found evidence supporting the internal consistencies and circumplex structures of both CSIP-Impairments and CSIP-Benefits, and it compared their structures to other IPC-based measures; Study 2 (N = 564) replicated support for these internal consistencies and circumplex structures and provided construct validity evidence for CSIP-Impairments and CSIP-Benefits by relating them to dark personalities and personality disorder traits. This study describes the development and initial psychometric evaluation of the Eating for Muscularity Scale (EMS), a measure of muscularity-oriented disordered eating (MDE) attitudes and behaviors. We conducted a literature review to define the construct of MDE and relevant subdomains. This review informed a large pool of items addressing these subdomains, which were then reduced based on feedback from subject-matter experts. Confirmatory factor analyses (CFA) were conducted to refine the measure and identify latent factors in 2 samples of participants recruited online. Preliminary psychometric evaluation of EMS items was conducted in a subset of the original sample (n = 266). CFA supported a 27-item short form of the measure. The EMS demonstrated high internal consistency (Cronbach's α = .95), moderate to strong concurrent validity with related measures (r = .43-.78), good construct validity using known-group assessment, and strong test-retest reliability (r = .90). These findings provide preliminary support for the EMS as a reliable and valid measure of MDE. The instrument has the potential to support future research to improve clinical understanding and assessment of MDE and its etiology, prevalence, and treatment outcomes. An increasing number of studies are applying multilevel modeling (MLM) to daily diary assessments of emotional and cognitive reactivity (ER and CR). Despite their generation of promising results, these methods have yet to be validated. The current study, consisting of 449 participants from over 90 different colleges and universities, had 2 goals: (a) to assess the convergent validity of these methods in relation to more conventional measures, and (b) to assess the construct validity of these methods in relation to depressive symptoms. Results support the extraction of within- versus between-person aspects of both constructs from daily diary data. Evidence of convergent validity derives from the association of MLM-based estimates of ER and CR with established self-report questionnaire methods. Current standards of practice in neuropsychology advocate for including validity tests (PVTs). Abbreviating PVTs, such as the Test of Memory Malingering (TOMM), may help reduce overall evaluation time while maintaining diagnostic accuracy. TOMM Trial 1 performance (T1), as well as the number of errors within the first 10 items of Trial 1 (TOMMe10), have shown initial promise as abbreviated PVTs but require additional external cross-validation. This study sought to replicate findings from other mixed, diverse, clinical samples and provide further validation of abbreviated administrations of the TOMM. Data included 120 veterans who completed the TOMM and 3 criterion PVTs during clinical evaluation. In total, performance from 68% of the sample was classified as valid (52% met criteria for cognitive impairment), and performance from 32% of the sample was invalid. Group differences, diagnostic accuracy statistics, and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were analyzed for relevant TOMM indices. There were large (η²p= .45-.66), significant differences between validity groups (p < .001) on TOMM T1 and TOMMe10, with lower TOMM T1 and higher TOMMe10 scores for participants with invalid performance. Using established cut-scores, sensitivities/specificities were: TOMMe10 ≥1 error: .84/.66; ≥2 errors: .74/.93; TOMM T1 ≤40: .82/.93. ROC curve analysis yielded significant areas under the curve for both TOMMe10 and T1 with respective optimal cut-scores of ≥2 errors (.74 sensitivity/.93 specificity) and ≤41 (.84 sensitivity/.91 specificity). TOMMe10 and T1 performances are minimally impacted by cognitive impairment. Although both evidenced robust psychometric properties, TOMM T1 continued to show greater accuracy than TOMMe10. The Avoidance and Fusion Questionnaire for Youth-Short Form (AFQ-Y8) was designed to measure psychological inflexibility in children and adolescents. However, it has not yet been validated to the Spanish population. The present study examines the factorial structure, internal consistency, convergent and incremental validity, and measurement invariance between children and adolescents, male and female, and male and female across age of the AFQ-Y8 with 982 students from Spain (children = 459, adolescents = 523). The results confirmed, in both children and adolescents, a unifactorial structure of general psychological inflexibility. AFQ-Y8 was positively related to negative psychological health outcomes, and negatively related to positive psychological health outcomes and acceptance-related skills, such as mindfulness. In addition, psychological inflexibility showed incremental validity in the explanation of negative psychological health over mindfulness. Measurement invariance across age and gender groups was supported, suggesting that the scores in the AFQ-Y8 are comparable between children and adolescents, and between males and females. The multidimensional forced-choice (MFC) format has been proposed as an alternative to rating scales (RS) that may be less susceptible to response biases. The goal of this study was to compare the validity of trait estimates from the MFC and the RS format when using normative scoring for both formats. We focused on construct validity and criterion-related validity. In addition, we investigated test-retest reliability over a period of six months. Participants were randomly assigned the MFC (N = 593) or the RS (N = 622) version of the Big Five Triplets. In addition to self-ratings on the Big Five Triplets and other personality questionnaires and criteria, we also obtained other-ratings (N = 770) for the Big Five Triplets. The Big Five in the Big Five Triplets corresponded well with the Big Five in the Big Five Inventory except for agreeableness in the MFC version. The majority of the construct validity coefficients differed between the MFC and the RS version, whereas criterion-related validities were very similar. The self- and other-rated Big Five Triplets showed higher correlations in the MFC format than in the RS format. The reliability of trait estimates on the Big Five and test-retest reliabilities were lower for MFC compared to RS. For the MFC format to be able to replace the RS format, more research on how to obtain ideal constellations of items that are matched in their desirability is needed. The diagnostic operationalization of personality disorders is at the crossroads. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (5th ed.; DSM-5), includes 2 separate systems for the diagnosis of personality disorders (PDs)-1 that is purely categorical (Section II) and 1 that is primarily dimensional (Section III). The International Classification of Diseases (11th ed.) will use a dimensional approach for the diagnosis of PDs. The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory 2-Restructured Form (MMPI-2-RF) PD Spectra scales were developed as measures of both the traditional and the alternative and scientifically supported systems. The current study examined the criterion and construct validity of these scales in a sample of 343 psychiatric patients. Patients completed the MMPI-2-RF, a measure of traditional personality disorders, a measure of the DSM-5 alternative model of personality disorder traits, and a measure of the 5-factor model of personality. Overall, with the exception of the Narcissistic and the Obsessive-Compulsive PD Spectra scales, the criterion and construct validity findings were quite supportive of these scales. There is no universally agreed definition of well-being as a subjective experience, but Huppert and So (2013) adopted and systematically applied the definition of well-being as positive mental health-the opposite of the common mental disorders described in standard mental health classifications (e.g., Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders). We extended their theoretical approach to include multi-item scales, using 2 waves of nationally representative U.S. adult samples to develop, test, and validate our multidimensional measure of well-being (WB-Pro). This resulted in a good-fitting a priori (48-item, 15-factor) model that was invariant over time, education, gender, and age; showed good reliability (coefficient αs .81-.93), test-retest correlation (.73-.85; M = .80), and convergent/discriminant validity based on a multitrait-multimethod analysis, and relations with demographic variables, selected psychological measures, and other multidimensional and purportedly unidimensional well-being measures. Further, we found that items from 2 widely used, purportedly unidimensional well-being measures loaded on different WB-Pro factors consistent with a priori predictions based on the WB-Pro factor structure, thereby calling into question their claimed unidimensionality and theoretical rationale. Because some applications require a short global measure, we used a machine-learning algorithm to construct 2 global well-being short versions (five- and 15-item forms) and tested these formative measures in relation to the full-form and validity criteria (to download short and long versions see https://ippe.acu.edu.au/research/research-instruments/wb-pro). Although the Personality Assessment Screener (PAS; Morey, 1997) has garnered substantial research interest, the measure's temporal stability and sensitivity to change have remained largely uninvestigated. The present study employs a dynamic approach to investigating the convergent and discriminant validity of the PAS by examining relationships between temporal changes on the PAS and changes on external criterion measures, thereby exploring the extent to which changes on the PAS offer meaningful information regarding changes in psychological functioning. Data were obtained from a public dataset funded by the United States Department of Justice in which male inmates were administered various psychological measures at 5 time points spanning the course of a year. The PAS demonstrated appreciable stability across all testing intervals and the full study period, and temporal changes on the PAS correlated as expected with changes on both conceptually similar and distinct external criterion measures. These findings offer evidence to suggest that temporal variations across testing intervals are not fully explained by error, as conceptualized in classical test-retest analyses, but rather may indicate meaningful changes in functioning. Understanding variations in children's well-being is key to addressing inequalities. It is especially useful to understand children's own perspectives, although there is a lack of short questionnaires using simple language which can be administered to younger children (or in situations when testing-time is limited). Here we first present the VSWQ-C, a Very Short Well-Being Questionnaire for Children, which captures health-related quality-of-life in a brief questionnaire for both older and younger child responders. We provide preliminary validation evidence for this new measure from two English samples of children aged 6-7 and 9-10 years. Next, we also adapted an existing measure of children's emotional well-being (10-item Positive and Negative Effect Schedule for Children; Ebesutani et al., 2012), again to be suitable for a younger cohort. Our adaptation, the Definitional Positive and Negative Effect Schedule for Children (dPANAS-C), provides children as young as 6 with age-appropriate definitions of questionnaire vocabulary. We again present preliminary validation evidence from 9-10 year olds, as well as children 6-7 years (i.e., 1-2 years younger than the original version of this questionnaire had been psychometrically developed for). We looked too at demographic influences, and show that older children report greater well-being (in the VSWQ-C) as well as lower negative affect (in the dPANAS-C), but without gender differences. Questionnaire and mood-induction measures of emotional and cognitive reactivity (ER and CR) have noteworthy strengths as well as potential liabilities (as do virtually all measures of psychological constructs). Toward a solution to the fallible measurement problem, methodologists have long advocated utilizing qualitatively diverse assessment methods to converge upon the constructs of interests. The current article introduces and provides initial validation of the Behind Your Back measure that (unlike any other measure) simultaneously assesses both ER and CR in college students via methods that avoid some of the problems associated with conventional measures. For both ER and CR, 3 dimensions are hypothesized, representing (a) person-driven, (b) event-driven, and (c) person/event-driven aspects of ER and CR. Results support this tripartite structure and provide evidence of convergent and construct validity of the method, including significant relations to self-reported symptoms of depression. The Emotions as a Child Scale (EAC) is an efficient tool to assess parental emotion socialization in Western contexts. However, the cross-cultural utility of the EAC has not been well documented. To address this gap, the present study aimed to investigate its factor structure and measurement invariance across child sex in Chinese children (n = 477, 47.4% girls, 9- to 12-years-old). Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses suggested that a revised 2-factor model (including 12 items in each of the three emotion subscales), consisting of supportive and nonsupportive strategies, was a good alternative to prior models. This new 2-factor model demonstrated strict measurement invariance across child sex and satisfactory internal consistency. The criterion validity of the revised EAC was supported by expected relationships with the measures of child-parent relationship and parenting behavior. Findings suggest that the revised EAC holds promise as a youth-reported instrument for assessing perceived parental emotion socialization in Chinese children, although more studies are needed to replicate our findings in other Chinese samples. To assess the psychometric properties of the Personality Inventory for ICD-11 (PiCD, where ICD-11 is the International Classification of Diseases, 11th Revision), a sample of Italian community-dwelling adult participants (N = 1,122) was administered the PiCD, the Five-Factor Model Rating Form, the Big Five Inventory, the Personality Inventory for DSM-5 Short Form (where DSM-5 is the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, fifth edition), and the Measure of Disordered Personality Functioning. Our findings supported the unidimensionality hypothesis for the PiCD Negative Affectivity, Detachment, and Dissocial scale items, whereas adequate fit indices were observed for the bifactor model of the PiCD Disinhibition and Anankastic item joint polychoric correlation matrix. The PiCD scales showed adequate internal consistency, test-retest reliability (n = 262), and meaningful relationships with five-factor model domains and their maladaptive variants. A four-factor model of the joint correlation matrix of the PiCD, Personality Inventory for DSM-5 Short Form, and the five-factor model composite score was provided with adequate fit. The predominant maladaptive trait models are now provided by Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders-Fifth Edition (DSM-5) Section III, assessed by the Personality Inventory for DSM-5 (PID-5; Krueger, Derringer, Markon, Watson, & Skodol, 2012), and the International Classification of Diseases-11th Revision (ICD-11; assessed by the Personality Inventory for ICD-11 (PiCD; Oltmanns & Widiger, 2018). However, 2 historical precedents are the Dimensional Assessment of Personality Pathology-Basic Questionnaire (DAPP-BQ; Livesley & Jackson, 2009) and the Schedule for Nonadaptive and Adaptive Personality (SNAP; Clark, 1993). The current study administered the DAPP-BQ, SNAP, PiCD, and PID-5 to a sample of 323 persons with a history of mental health treatment. The results provided support for the historical precedence of the DAPP-BQ and SNAP, although also suggest that additional traits should perhaps be included in current models. The results also bear on additional ongoing issues, including (but not limited to) the bipolarity of maladaptive personality structure, the conceptualization of identity problems as a trait, and the discriminant validity of maladaptive trait models and their assessment. In this update of Clark and Watson (1995), we provide a synopsis of major points of our earlier article and discuss issues in scale construction that have become more salient as clinical and personality assessment has progressed over the past quarter-century. It remains true that the primary goal of scale development is to create valid measures of underlying constructs and that Loevinger's theoretical scheme provides a powerful model for scale development. We still discuss practical issues to help developers maximize their measures' construct validity, reiterating the importance of (a) clear conceptualization of target constructs, (b) an overinclusive initial item pool, (c) paying careful attention to item wording, (d) testing the item pool against closely related constructs, (e) choosing validation samples thoughtfully, and (f) emphasizing unidimensionality over internal consistency. We have added (g) consideration of the hierarchical structures of personality and psychopathology in scale development, discussion of (h) codeveloping scales in the context of these structures, (i) "orphan," and "interstitial" constructs, which do not fit neatly within these structures, (j) problems with "conglomerate" constructs, and (k) developing alternative versions of measures, including short forms, translations, informant versions, and age-based adaptations. Finally, we have expanded our discussions of (l) item-response theory and of external validity, emphasizing (m) convergent and discriminant validity, (n) incremental validity, and (o) cross-method analyses, such as questionnaires and interviews. We conclude by reaffirming that all mature sciences are built on the bedrock of sound measurement and that psychology must redouble its efforts to develop reliable and valid measures. The Body Image Acceptance and Action Questionnaire (BI-AAQ), a measure designed to assess body image flexibility, was originally developed for and psychometrically investigated with nonclinical populations, but it has been recently administered to people with binge-eating disorder (BED) symptomatology. Tests of measurement invariance are needed to understand whether the BI-AAQ operates in the same way for BED and non-BED populations, thereby ensuring meaningful comparison across these groups. We thus tested the measurement invariance of the BI-AAQ in participants with and without clinically significant BED symptomatology. Data were analyzed from 358 community-based participants. Participants were either classified as with (n = 179) or without (n = 179) "probable BED" based on self-reported symptom frequency. An unacceptable model fit was found across both groups, indicating that the unidimensional structure of the BI-AAQ was not replicated. We then sought to confirm the unidimensional structure of a recently proposed five-item version of the BI-AAQ. A unidimensional structure of this abbreviated version was replicated, and tests of measurement variance were upheld. Internal consistency, convergent validity, and incremental validity were documented for both the original and abbreviated BI-AAQ across individuals with and without BED symptomatology. Present findings provide further psychometric support for an abbreviated five-item BI-AAQ, although it is important for future research to replicate both the full and abbreviated BI-AAQ in more diverse samples. Predicting patients' ability to engage in instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs) is an important part of neuropsychological evaluation of older adults. Executive functioning (EF) is the neurocognitive domain most strongly associated with performance of IADLs. However, performance-based tests of EF have long been criticized for having poor ecological validity, largely because of their imperfect association with functional outcomes and their low face validity. However, past research has not examined whether high face validity improves a test's ability to predict IADLs. The present study examined this question. Fifty community-dwelling older adults completed 2 measures of EF that have been previously shown to be related to performance on IADL tasks: the Pillbox Test (a test with high face validity) and the Push-Turn-Taptap task (PTT; a test with low face validity). As an outcome variable, weekly pill counts were conducted across 8 weeks as an index of real-world daily medication management. Hierarchical linear regression analyses and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analyses using medication management as the dependent variable revealed that the PTT outperformed the Pillbox Test both in accounting for variance in medication management and in classifying participants according to their medication management accuracy. The present study does not support the notion that face validity, in and of itself, improves the ability of performance-based EF tests to predict functional outcomes. In four studies, we document the development and validation of the Emotional Style Questionnaire (ESQ)—a 24-item self-report measure that captures how people vary across 6 dimensions that make up a healthy emotional life. These 6 dimensions (Outlook, Resilience, Social Intuition, Self-Awareness, Sensitivity to Context, and Attention) are based on a theoretical framework drawn from neuroscientific studies of emotion. Study 1 reports the development of the ESQ and provides initial support for the proposed factorial structure of the scale. Study 2 confirms the adequacy of the factorial structure in a second sample and establishes the construct validity of each of the 6 subscales. In Study 3, we test the relationship between the ESQ as a measure of healthy emotionality and various indicators of psychological and physical well-being. Finally, Study 4 investigates the test–retest reliability of the scale and reveals very good reliability across an interval of 4 weeks. We conclude that the ESQ is a psychometrically solid and easily implementable instrument that can be used to gauge healthy emotionality and its components in both clinical and research settings. This study introduces the Emotional Style Questionnaire—a 24-item measure of overall emotional health—which also provides more fine-tuned information about the 6 different dimensions underlying emotional health. The DSM-5 introduced an alternative model of personality disorders that is predicated on the presence of personality dysfunction (Criterion A) and pathological personality traits (Criterion B). Recently, a member of the DSM-5 Personality and Personality Disorder Work Group-Morey-published a measure of Criterion A. Our study (Sleep, Lynam, Widiger, Crowe, & Miller, 2019, this issue) examined the performance of Morey's (2017) Levels of Personality Functioning Scale-Self-Report (LFPS-SR) by testing its factor structure, relations with Axis I and II symptoms, and its incremental validity in predicting traditional personality disorders in comparison to Criterion B traits. In his response, Morey raised a number of issues regarding our examination of the LPFS-SR in relation to its factor structure, discriminant validity, and incremental validity. Moreover, he suggested our approach (i.e., pitting Criterion A vs. B) is emblematic of problems in the field that contributed to the relegating of the AMPD to Section III (on emerging measures and models). All health-related quality-of-life (HRQL) measures for dementia have been developed in high-income countries and none were validated for cross-cultural use. Yet, the global majority of people living with dementia reside in low- and middle-income countries. We therefore investigated the measurement invariance of a set of self- and informant-report HRQL measures developed in the United Kingdom when used in Latin America. Self-reported HRQL was obtained using (DEMQOL) at a memory assessment service in the United Kingdom (n = 868) and a population cohort study in Latin America (n = 417). Informant reports were collected using DEMQOL-Proxy at both sites (n = 909 and n = 495). Multiple-group confirmatory bifactor models for ordered categorical item responses were estimated to evaluate measurement invariance. Results support configural, metric, and scalar invariance for the concept of general HRQL in DEMQOL and DEMQOL-Proxy. The dominant impact of general HRQL on item responses was evident across U.K. English and Ibero American Spanish versions of DEMQOL (ωh = 0.87-0.90) and DEMQOL-Proxy (ωh = 0.88-0.89). Ratings of "positive emotion" did not show a major impact on general HRQL appraisal, particularly for Latin American respondents. Item information curves show that self- and informant-reports were highly informative about the presence rather than the absence of HRQL impairment. We found no major difference in conceptual meaning, sensitivity, and relevance of DEMQOL and DEMQOL-Proxy for older adults in the United Kingdom and Latin America. Further replication is needed for consensus over which HRQL measures are appropriate for making cross-national comparisons in global dementia research. In support of the construct validity of mindfulness questionnaires, meta-analytic reviews have reported that scores increase in mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs). However, several studies have also found increased mindfulness scores in interventions with no explicit mindfulness training, raising a question about differential sensitivity to change with treatment. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of 37 randomized controlled trials in which mindfulness questionnaires were administered before and after an evidence-based MBI and a nonmindfulness-based active control condition. The central question was whether increases in mindfulness scores would be greater in the MBI than in the comparison group. On average, participants in MBIs showed significantly greater pre–post changes in mindfulness scores than were seen in active control conditions with no explicit mindfulness elements, with a small overall effect size. This effect was moderated by which mindfulness questionnaire was used, by the type of active control condition, and by whether the MBI and control were matched for amount of session time. When mindfulness facet scores were analyzed separately, MBIs showed significantly greater pre–post increases than active controls in observing, nonjudging, and nonreactivity but not in describing or acting with awareness. Although findings provide partial support for the differential sensitivity of mindfulness questionnaires to change with treatment, the nonsignificant difference in pre–post change when the MBI and control were matched for session time highlights the need to clarify how mindfulness skills are acquired in MBIs and in other interventions and whether revisions to mindfulness questionnaires would increase their specificity to changes in mindfulness skills. This review found that scores on mindfulness questionnaires increase more in mindfulness-based interventions than in interventions with no explicit mindfulness training, but not under all conditions. When the two treatments had equal session time, increases in mindfulness scores were similar. Nonmindfulness-based interventions may implicitly cultivate mindfulness skills, or the questionnaires may need revisions to increase their specificity to changes in mindfulness skills. An alternative diagnostic model of personality disorders (AMPD) was introduced in DSM-5 that diagnoses PDs based on the presence of personality impairment (Criterion A) and pathological personality traits (Criterion B). Research examining Criterion A has been limited to date, due to the lack of a specific measure to assess it; this changed, however, with the recent publication of a self-report assessment of personality dysfunction as defined by Criterion A (Levels of Personality Functioning Scale-Self-report; LPFS-SR; Morey, 2017). The aim of the current study was to test several key propositions regarding the role of Criterion A in the AMPD including the underlying factor structure of the LPFS-SR, the discriminant validity of the hypothesized factors, whether Criterion A distinguishes personality psychopathology from Axis I symptoms, the overlap between Criterion A and B, and the incremental predictive utility of Criterion A and B in the statistical prediction of traditional PD symptom counts. Neither a single factor model nor an a priori four-factor model of dysfunction fit the data well. The LPFS-SR dimensions were highly interrelated and manifested little evidence of discriminant validity. In addition, the impairment dimensions manifested robust correlations with measures of both Axis I and II constructs, challenging the notion that personality dysfunction is unique to PDs. Finally, multivariate regression analyses suggested that the traits account for substantially more unique variance in DSM-5 Section II PDs than does personality impairment. These results provide important information as to the functioning of the two main components of the DSM-5 AMPD and raise questions about whether the model may need revision moving forward. The Systemic Therapy Inventory of Change (STIC) is a multisystemic and multidimensional feedback system that provides therapists feedback about systemic domains of client change in individual, couple, and family therapy over time. The goal of the present study is to investigate the sensitivity to change of the scores of the STIC Initial Scales. In total, 583 clients who voluntarily sought individual, couple, or family therapy services and participated in a randomized controlled trial study were included in the study. Their pre- and posttherapy responses to the STIC Initial measures and corresponding validation measures for individual functioning, couple relationship, child adjustment, and family functioning were compared. The results support the sensitivity to change of the scores of the four STIC Initial Scales investigated: Individual Problems and Strengths (IPS), Relationship with Partner (RWP), Family/Household (FH), and Child Problems and Strengths (CPS). Of particular note, the IPS demonstrated even greater change over time than the BDI-II, BAI, and OQ-45. The discriminant validity of measuring change with the CPS was not supported. There has been no systematic examination of whether scale scores on the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2-Restructured Form (MMPI-2-RF; Ben-Porath & Tellegen, 2011; Tellegen & Ben-Porath, 2011) are related to self- or partner-rated characteristics of romantic relationships. As such, the current study examined relations between select MMPI-2-RF scale scores and markers of relationship quality. Participants included 739 committed couples who completed the MMPI-2 and the Dyadic Adjustment Scale (Spanier, 1976; Spanier & Filsinger, 1983). Correlational analyses identified clinically meaningful negative associations between self-rated relationship satisfaction and scores on Emotional/Internalizing Dysfunction (EID) and Demoralization (RCd) for both men and women. For men and women self- and partner-rated relationship satisfaction and consensus were both meaningfully and negatively related to scores on Antisocial Behavior (RC4) and Family Problems (FML). These results are the first to provide support for the convergent validity of FML as a measure of difficulties experienced in romantic relationships. Results for EID, RCd, and RC4 converge with previous research examining relations between personality and intimate relationship qualities. Overall, these results suggest scores from the MMPI-2-RF are useful in screening for problems experienced by the individual or their partner in the context of their committed relationship. According to the triarchic model, psychopathy encompasses 3 distinct dispositional constructs: boldness, meanness, and disinhibition. Although the Triarchic Psychopathy Measure was designed to assess these 3 constructs, researchers have developed alternative triarchic scales using both omnibus measures of general personality and existing psychopathy scales. The components of the HEXACO model of personality may be especially capable of characterizing the dimensions of the triarchic model of psychopathy. The current study used a consensus-rating approach to create triarchic scales using items from the HEXACO-100. Data from 3 community and college student samples were used to examine the internal consistency, and convergent and discriminant validity of these newly developed HEXACO-Triarchic scales. The scales consistently demonstrated good internal consistency and displayed promising convergent and discriminant validity with theoretically predicted criterion variables. The lone exception was that HEXACO-Meanness and HEXACO-Disinhibition were similarly related to other triarchic measures of meanness. The current project outlines the development of the Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Symptom Infrequency Scale (ASIS), a stand-alone measure designed to identify individuals feigning or exaggerating symptoms to receive a diagnosis of ADHD. Over the course of 3 studies, valid data was collected from 402 participants assigned to control, simulator, ADHD diagnosed, or possible undiagnosed ADHD groups. Group assignment was based on self-reported history of ADHD diagnosis including information about the credentials of diagnosing professional and methods used. The ASIS includes an Infrequency Scale (INF) designed to detect rarely reported symptoms of ADHD and several clinical scales designed to measure genuine symptoms. The final version of the ASIS demonstrated high internal consistency for the INF (α = .96) and the ADHD Total scales (α= .96). Convergent validity for the ADHD Total was established through a strong correlation with Barkley Adult ADHD Rating Scale-IV (r = .92). Initial validation of the INF yielded high discriminability between groups (d = 2.76; 95% confidence interval [2.17, 3.36]). The final INF scale demonstrated strong sensitivity (.79-.86) and excellent specificity (.89). Using our study's malingering base rate of 29%, positive and negative predictive values were strong (.71-.79 and .92-.93, respectively). Additional information is provided for a range of base rates. Current results suggest that the ASIS has potential as a reliable and valid measure of ADHD that is sensitive to malingering when compared to a sample of individuals self-reporting a history of ADHD diagnosis.
