Objective: nformal caregivers provide substantial support for people living with cancer. Previous systematic reviews report on the efficacy of cancer caregiver interventions but not their potential to be implemented. The aim of this systematic review was to explore the potential for cancer caregiver interventions to be implemented into practice.Methods: We searched three electronic databases to identify cancer caregiver interventions on 5 January 2018. We operationalised six implementation outcomes (acceptability, adoption, appropriateness, feasibility, fidelity, and costs) into a tool to guide data extraction.Results: The search yielded 33 papers (27 papers from electronic databases and six papers from other sources) reporting on 26 studies that met review criteria. Fewer than half the studies (46%) contained evidence about the acceptability of interventions from caregivers' perspectives; only two studies (8%) included interventions developed with input from caregivers. Two studies (8%) addressed potential adoption of interventions, and no studies discussed intentions, agreement, or action to implement interventions into practice. All studies reported on intervention appropriateness by providing a rationale for the interventions. For feasibility, on average less than one-third of caregivers who were eligible to be involved consented to participate. On fidelity, whether interventions were conducted as intended was reported in 62% of studies. Cost data were reported in terms of intervention delivery, requiring a median time commitment of staff of 180 minutes to be delivered.Conclusions: Caregiver intervention studies lack components of study design and reporting that could bridge the gap between research and practice. Objective: Evidence suggests that people with severe mental illness (PwSMI) are 2.1 times more likely to die from cancer before the age of 75, compared to people without Severe mental illness (SMI). Yet, cancer screening uptake is low among PwSMI. This mixed‐methods systematic review aimed to identify the barriers and facilitators for PwSMI deciding to access and attend primary cancer screening of the cervix, breast and colon. Methods: Six electronic databases and two grey literature sources were searched, with 1017 records screened against inclusion criteria. Included papers were appraised and data synthesised using the constructs of Normalisation Process Theory. Results: Twenty papers met the inclusion criteria. Factors that impact upon uptake of PwSMI accessing cancer screening were found to include age, gender, race, and income. Common barriers to attending screening included poor communication from healthcare staff, stigmatising attitudes, and accessibility problems such as no access to transportation. While, facilitators included social support from friends, family, and healthcare providers. Conclusions: Due to ease and privacy, colorectal screening was found to have fewer barriers when compared to cervical and breast screening. The review identified multiple barriers that can be addressed and targeted to support decision‐making for cancer screening among PwSMI. The protocol was registered with PROSPERO (CRD42022331781). Sleep and circadian rhythms are closely related to physical and psychosocial well-being. However, sleep and circadian rhythm disruptions are often overlooked in children with cancer, as they are frequently considered temporary side effects of therapy that resolve when treatment ends. Yet, evidence from adult oncology suggests a bidirectional relationship wherein cancer and its treatment disrupt sleep and circadian rhythms, which are associated with negative health outcomes such as poor immune functioning and lower survival rates. A growing body of research demonstrates that sleep problems are prevalent among children with cancer and can persist into survivorship. However, medical and psychosocial outcomes of poor sleep and circadian rhythmicity have not been explored in this context. It is essential to increase our understanding because sleep and circadian rhythms are vital components of health and quality of life. In children without cancer, sleep and circadian disturbances respond well to intervention, suggesting that they may also be modifiable in children with cancer. We present this paper as a call to (a) incorporate sleep or circadian rhythm assessment into pediatric cancer clinical trials, (b) address gaps in understanding the bidirectional relationship between sleep or circadian rhythms and health throughout the cancer trajectory, and (c) integrate sleep and circadian science into oncologic treatment. This article comments on the research paper "A hypothesis about Spiegel et at's 1989 paper on psychosocial intervention and breast cancer survival" by Bernard H. Fox. Dr. Fox underestimates the importance of randomization done by present author. The reason that the authors have done randomized trials is because any attempt to match a study sample with some other comparison sample is open to the possibility of bias. The fundamental premise of randomized clinical trials is that the only thing that systematically distinguishes intervention from control patients is their randomization status. If this is the case, prognostic variables, such as site of metastasis, tumor type, and other potential confounds, are unlikely (but not unable) to account for the differences observed. Dr. Fox assumes improbable results as fact in his analysis of the study conducted by authors of the present article. There is a bit of a bias in Dr. Fox's analysis of sample differences.

In a randomized prospective study of 86 metastatic breast cancer patients by Spiegel et al . in 1989, the 50 who took part in a group psychosocial intervention survived on average 18 months longer than the 36 controls who did not. Because the control survival curve looked unusually steep, lacking an expected right-skewed tail, both curves were compared with that of a population from the same region having metastatic breast cancer. When transformed to life-table format, the curves of the control sample and the regional population, neither group having had an intervention, were almost identical for a year, and differed strikingly after 20 months. This led to the hypothesis that the 12 control patients surviving for more than 20 months were an extremely aberrant sample, being subject to the strong biasing influence of possible confounders, of which a considerable number are known, but not including those accounted for in the study. Corollaries to the hypothesis are that the intervention had no effect; that the intervention curve was in fact equivalent to a control curve with mild sampling departure from that of the regional population; and that, therefore, the repetition of the study now under way would not yield confirmation of the 1989 study, but rather, would support the hypothesis and the first two corollaries. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. Our objective was to test a theoretical model that explains quality of life as a function of the intrusiveness of illness encroaching on the different domains of one’s life. The intrusiveness of illness is explained not only by disease and treatment related factors, but also by one’s psychological and social resources (Devins, 1994). To investigate this issue, a sample of 336 women aged 50 and under, recently diagnosed with breast cancer were interviewed in their homes. Consistent with Devins’ model, intrusiveness of illness mediated the effect of disease and treatment factors on quality of life. Contrary to his model, some treatment factors also had direct effects while social and psychological factors had only direct effects on quality of life. Objective: Why some people recover emotionally after diagnosis and treatment of cancer and others do not is poorly understood. To identify factors around the time of diagnosis that predict longer-term distress is a necessary step in developing interventions to reduce patients' vulnerability. This review identified the demographic, clinical, social, and psychological factors available at or within 3 months of diagnosis that are reliable predictors of emotional distress at least 12 months later.Methods: A systematic search of literature for prospective studies addressing our research question and predicting a range of distress outcomes was conducted. Thirty-nine papers (reporting 36 studies) were subjected to narrative synthesis of the evidence.Results: There was no consistent evidence that demographic, clinical, or social factors reliably predicted longer-term distress. Of the psychological factors examined, only baseline distress (significant in 26 of 30 relevant papers; 24 of 28 studies) and neuroticism (significant in all 5 papers/studies that examined it) consistently predicted longer-term distress. The heterogeneity of included studies, particularly in populations studied and methodology, precluded meta-analytic techniques.Conclusions: This review supports current clinical guidance advising early assessment of distress as a marker of vulnerability to persistent problems. Additionally, neuroticism is also indicated as a useful marker of vulnerability. However, the review also highlights that more sophisticated research designs, capable of identifying the psychological processes that underlie the association between these marker variables and persistent distress, are needed before more effective early interventions can be developed. Objective: Evidence suggests that people with a learning disability (PwLD) are less likely to attend cancer screening than the general population in the United Kingdom. The aim of this systematic review was to identify and synthesise qualitative studies reporting the attitudes and opinions of PwLD, family carers, and paid care workers towards national cancer screening programmes.Methods: Five electronic and two grey literature databases were searched. Fourteen thousand eight hundred forty-six papers were reviewed against predetermined inclusion criteria. Included papers were critically appraised. Findings were synthesised using meta-aggregation.Results: Eleven papers met the inclusion criteria, all related to cervical and breast screening. No papers were related to colorectal cancer screening. Findings were clustered into four synthesised findings: (1) supporting women with a learning disability (WwLD) to attend screening, (2) WwLD's awareness of screening and their psychophysical experiences, 3) professional practice barriers including the need for multidisciplinary working and an understanding of the needs of WwLD, and (4) approaches to improve the uptake of cervical and breast cancer screening. The synthesis highlights the significance of WwLD having support to understand the importance of screening to be able to make an informed choice about attending.Conclusions: WwLD may not attend cancer screening due to fear, concerns over pain, and the potential influence of family carers and paid care workers. The review identified practical mechanisms which could help WwLD attend screening. Objectives: To explore the experiences of caregivers of terminally ill patients with delirium, to determine the potential role of caregivers in the management of delirium at the end of life, to identify the support required to improve caregiver experience and to help the caregiver support the patient.Methods: Four electronic databases were searched-PsychInfo, Medline, Cinahl and Scopus from January 2000 to July 2015 using the terms 'delirium', 'terminal restlessness' or 'agitated restlessness' combined with 'carer' or 'caregiver' or 'family' or 'families'. Thirty-three papers met the inclusion criteria and remained in the final review.Results: Papers focused on (i) caregiver experience-distress, deteriorating relationships, balancing the need to relieve suffering with desire to communicate and helplessness versus control; (ii) the caregiver role-detection and prevention of delirium, symptom monitoring and acting as a patient advocate; and (iii) caregiver support-information needs, advice on how to respond to the patient, interventions to improve caregiver outcomes and interventions delivered by caregivers to improve patient outcomes.Conclusion: High levels of distress are experienced by caregivers of patients with delirium. Distress is heightened because of the potential irreversibility of delirium in palliative care settings and uncertainty around whether the caregiver-patient relationship can be re-established before death. Caregivers can contribute to the management of patient delirium. Additional intervention studies with informational, emotional and behavioural components are required to improve support for caregivers and to help the caregiver support the patient. Objectives: This Special issue of Psycho‐Oncology highlights examples of the application of implementation science to research in psycho‐oncology. The aim is to demonstrate the different ways that implementation science is being used to generate evidence that can more readily translate evidence into changes in clinical practice. We hope this issue fosters greater interest in using the tools of implementation science to improve the lives of people affected by cancer. Methods: The papers in the issue were selected from among those that responded to a call for submissions on the application of implementation science frameworks and methods to issues in psycho‐oncology. The focus included but was not limited to research on: understanding barriers and facilitators of intervention/practice adoption; assessing implementation outcomes, evaluating implementation strategies, and improving behavioural and/or clinical outcomes. Results: The 11 papers in this issue were grouped for presentation purposes into four common topics: barriers and facilitators to implementation; feasibility as a key implementation outcome; the design, selection and adaptation of implementation strategies; and building the foundation for psycho‐oncology research translation via systematic reviews that focus on implementation strategy design. Conclusion: These papers demonstrate the breadth of current applications of implementation science to research in psycho‐oncology. Alongside the studies featured in this issue, including cost‐effectiveness analyses, tests of nationally‐focused strategies and proactive planning for adaptation, we look forward to other innovations that will promote further growth of both disciplines to improve the integration of psycho‐oncology interventions across healthcare systems. Objective: Oropharyngeal cancer, a type of head and neck cancer (HNC), the incidence of which is increasing, often affects younger patients than traditional HNC, having distinct psychosocial consequences. Treatment side effects mean many rely on informal caregivers following (chemo)radiotherapy. The purpose of this review was to describe current understanding of the psychosocial experiences of these caregivers in the post‐treatment phase. Methods: A systematic search for relevant studies between January 2010 and October 2022 in three electronic databases (CINAHL, MEDLINE and PsycINFO) was followed by citation searching. Inclusion criteria were developed to ensure studies explored caregivers' experiences during the post‐treatment phase following oropharyngeal cancer (chemo)radiotherapy. Thematic analysis informed by the 'Cancer Family Caregiving Experience Model', identified stressors, appraisals and responses. Themes evolved through the synthesis of recurrent concepts across the studies and a narrative of psychosocial experiences and their impact upon caregiver well‐being was developed. Results: Fifteen HNC papers which included exploration of the psychosocial experiences of oropharyngeal cancer caregivers following (chemo)radiotherapy were selected. Findings were synthesised to develop five themes: an emotional struggle, supporting nutrition, altered lifestyles, changes within relationships and support needs. Conclusions: The completion of (chemo)radiotherapy signalled a transition for these caregivers as they undertook burdensome responsibilities. Experiences indicated that preparation for the role, assessment of needs, and targeted support is required. Additionally, caregivers' recognition by healthcare professionals as caring partners could help moderate this demanding experience. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives: Outcomes for men with localised prostate cancer managed with Active Surveillance (AS) are similar to outcomes for men who have received Active Treatment. This review explore men's perceptions of the factors that influence their decision‐making process when considering AS. Method: A systematic review of studies was conducted up to May 2021, including qualitative studies which explored the decision making of men with localised prostate cancer when considering AS. Evidence was analysed using thematic synthesis. Results: Thirteen papers, including 426 men, met inclusion criteria and were analysed in the review. Approximately half of the men had chosen AS and half had chosen Active Treatment. The choice of AS was not a one‐off decision but rather an ongoing behaviour. Four themes were identified and considered within a temporal model: pre‐diagnosis representations of cancer and treatment; experience of testing and diagnosis; patient decision making; and emotional adjustment to AS. Key barriers and facilitators to men choosing AS were identified. In deciding whether or not to choose AS, men balanced a desire for quality of life against fear of cancer progression. Conclusions: Both cognitive representations and emotional arousal influence how men decided whether or not to opt for AS. Interventions tailored to elicit and address emotional appraisals of risk, and increase trust in AS protocols, may be of value in helping men to make decisions around treatment for localised prostate cancer. Objectives: This Special Issue of Psycho‐Oncology is focused on challenges and opportunities in the provision of psychosocial care to patients in low and middle‐income countries (LMICs). The aim is to highlight global disparities and inequity in the provision of evidence‐based, culturally‐sensitive and timely psychosocial care and to showcase the work of researchers and practitioners to address this gap. We hope that this Issue will help to advance the psychological and social dimensions of cancer care in all parts of the world. Methods: The focus of the papers is on research and clinical innovations in LMICs that target the psychological, social and cultural dimensions of cancer and on interventions to improve or maintain the psychological well‐being, social functioning and/or quality of life of those who are affected and their families. Results: These papers draw attention to guidelines, resource needs, clinical service evaluation, emerging research and knowledge translation within LMICs that advance knowledge and implementation in the field of psycho‐oncology. Conclusions: Innovations and advances in psycho‐oncology are emerging from LMICs to enhance the care of patients with cancer and their families in these regions and in all parts of the world. A sustained global initiative is now needed to ensure that guidelines for such care are routinely included in global, national and local cancer control plans and that essential resources and attention are directed to implement them. Objective: The UK incidence of oropharyngeal cancer has risen sharply over the last 30 years with an increase in human papillomavirus (HPV) associated diagnoses, most prevalent in younger, working age populations. This meta‐ethnography explores the psychosocial needs of HPV+ve oropharyngeal cancer patients during early recovery following (chemo)radiotherapy. Methods: Meta‐ethnography methods were used, based on the approach of Noblit and Hare. Systematic searches for relevant qualitative studies were conducted in five electronic databases (MEDLINE, PubMed, CINAHL, PsycINFO and Cochrane database) between 2010 and 2021, followed by citation searching. Results: Twenty‐three papers exploring the psychosocial needs of HPV+ve oropharyngeal cancer patients after treatment were included. Findings were synthesised to develop five constructs: 'gaps in continuity of support from healthcare professionals' reflecting unmet needs; 'changes to self‐identity' revealing the comprehensive disruption of this disease and treatment; 'unrealistic expectations of recovery' highlighting the difficulty of preparing for the impact of treatment; 'finding ways to cope' describing the distinct complexity of this experience; and 'adjusting to life after the end of treatment' exploring how coping strategies helped patients to regain control of their lives. Conclusions: Completing (chemo)radiotherapy signalled a transition from hospital‐based care to home‐based support, challenging patients to address the constructs identified. An unexpectedly difficult and complex recovery meant that despite a favourable prognosis, poor psychosocial well‐being may threaten a successful outcome. Objective: The concept of living with and beyond cancer is now emerging in policy and literature. Rather than viewing this notion simply as a linear timeline, developing an agreed understanding of the lived experience of people affected by cancer will aid the development of person-centred models of care.Methods: A systematic review was conducted. The review question was "What does the term 'living with and beyond cancer' mean to people affected by cancer?" The protocol for the review was preregistered in the PROSPERO database (PROSPERO CRD42017059860). All included studies were qualitative, so narrative synthesis was used to integrate descriptions and definitions of living with and beyond cancer into an empirically based conceptual framework.Results: Out of 2345 papers that were identified and 180 that were reviewed, a total of 73 papers were included. The synthesis yielded three interlinked themes: Adversity (realising cancer), Restoration (readjusting life with cancer), and Compatibility (reconciling cancer), resulting in the ARC framework.Conclusions: Three themes describe the experience of living with and beyond cancer: adversity, restoration, and compatibility. Objective: Post‐traumatic growth (PTG) describes perceived positive changes following a traumatic event. We describe (i) PTG in parents of long‐term childhood cancer survivors (CCS‐parents) compared to parents of similar‐aged children of the general population (comparison‐parents), (ii) normative data for the Swiss population, and (iii) psychological, socio‐economic, and event‐related characteristics associated with PTG. Methods: CCS‐parents (aged ≤16 years at diagnosis, ≥20 years old at study, registered in the Childhood Cancer Registry Switzerland (ChCR), and the Swiss population responded to a paper‐based survey, including the PTG‐Inventory (total score 0–105). We carried out (i) t‐tests, (ii) descriptive statistics, and (iii) multilevel regression models with survivor/household as the cluster variable. Results: In total, 746 CCS‐parents (41.7% fathers, response‐rate = 42.3%) of 494 survivors (median time since diagnosis 24 (7–40) years), 411 comparison‐parents (42.8% fathers, 312 households), and 1069 individuals of the Swiss population (40.7% male, response‐rate = 20.1%) participated. Mean [M] total PTG was in CCS‐parents M = 52.3 versus comparison‐parents M = 50.4, p = 0.078; and in the Swiss population M = 44.5). CCS‐parents showed higher 'relating‐to‐others' (18.4 vs. 17.3, p = 0.010), 'spiritual‐change' (3.3 vs. 3.0, p = 0.038) and 'appreciation‐of‐life' (9.3 vs. 8.4, p = 0.027) than comparison‐parents, but not in 'new‐possibilities' and 'personal‐strength'. Female gender, older age, higher post‐traumatic stress, and higher resilience were positively associated with PTG. Individuals reporting events not typically classified as traumatic also reported growth. Conclusions: Our findings highlight that mothers and fathers can experience heightened growth many years after their child's illness. Being able to sensitively foreshadow the potential for new‐possibilities and personal development may help support parents in developing a sense of hope. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives: To synthesize current evidence on the association between anticipatory anxiety, defined as apprehension‐specific negative affect that may be experienced when exposed to potential threat or uncertainty, and cancer screening to better inform strategies to maximize participation rates. Methods: Searches related to cancer screening and anxiety were conducted in seven electronic databases (APA PsycINFO, Scopus, Web of Science, Embase, Cochrane Library, PubMed, CINAHL), with potentially eligible papers screened in Covidence. Data extraction was conducted independently by multiple authors. Barriers to cancer screening for any type of cancer and relationships tested between anticipatory anxiety and cancer screening and intention were categorized and compared according to the form and target of anxiety and cancer types. Results: A total of 74 articles (nparticipants = 119,990) were included, reporting 103 relationships tested between anticipatory anxiety and cancer screening and 13 instances where anticipatory anxiety was reported as a barrier to screening. Anticipatory anxiety related to a possible cancer diagnosis was often associated with increased screening, while general anxiety showed no consistent relationship. Negative relationships were often found between anxiety about the screening procedure and cancer screening. Conclusion: Anticipatory anxiety about a cancer diagnosis may promote screening participation, whereas a fear of the screening procedure could be a barrier. Public health messaging and primary prevention practitioners should acknowledge the appropriate risk of cancer, while engendering screening confidence and highlighting the safety and comfort of screening tests. Objective: One of the most prevalent and disrupting symptoms experienced by cancer patients is chronic cancer-related fatigue (CCRF). A better understanding of the chronic nature of CCRF can provide valuable insights for theory and practice. The purpose of this meta-ethnography was to derive an overarching interpretative narrative on patients' experiences and responses to CCRF.Methods: We conducted a comprehensive systematic literature search in five databases (05-03-2018). In addition, papers from reference lists were retrieved. Two researchers independently screened the papers for eligibility and appraised quality (CASP-criteria). We followed the seven phases of meta-ethnography to extract, translate, and synthesise first-order constructs (ie, patients' views) and second-order constructs (ie, authors' views) from the selected studies into third-order constructs (ie, new interpretations).Results: Of the 1178 collected articles, 16 articles were included. Through synthesis, a new figure of six interrelated third-order constructs was developed: (1) embodied experience entails the dominating presence of the body; (2) (mis)recognition includes lack of recognition of CCRF by patients, relatives, and health providers; (3) small horizon describes a resultant narrowed world; (4) role change encompasses adopting other life roles; (5) loss of self refers to the impact on one's identity; and (6) regaining one's footing describes the struggle against CCRF, adaptation to CCRF and finally acceptance of a "new normal with CCRF."Conclusion: A new embodiment figure of CCRF with social (eg, (mis)recognition), spatial (eg, small horizon) and temporal dimensions (eg, regaining one's footing) was developed. Objective: Although caregiver burden may continue to influence the mental health of cancer patients' caregivers long after bereavement, few studies have examined this issue.Methods: A systematic review was conducted to provide a summary of (1) operationalizations of caregiver burden used in this field and (2) the effect of caregiver burden on postbereavement mental health of adult caregivers of cancer patients. A systematic search of the electronic databases PubMed, Web of Science, and PsycINFO was conducted across empirical studies published in a peer-reviewed journal up until April 2017.Results: Caregiver burden was rarely defined, and it was operationalized in multiple and diverging ways. The 20 included papers present varying results but generally indicate that caregiver burden (especially emotional) has an adverse effect on postbereavement mental health.Conclusions: In future studies, researchers seeking to ascertain which aspects of caregiver burden may prove an appropriate target for prevention and intervention should first use a precise operational definition of the concept. Objectives: Depression and suicide rates are high among cancer sufferers. Women with breast and gynecological cancer show high levels of distress, depressive symptoms, cognitive impairment, and anxiety. Understanding suicide rates and risk factors in this population would represent a viable tool in planning tailored, prevention strategies. The objective of this study was to estimate suicide rate and identify the determinants of suicide risk in women with breast and other gynecologic cancer. Methods: A systematic research was performed in PubMed and PsycINFO from anytime to September 26, 2023. The following search strategy was used: (Gynaecol* OR Gynecolog*) AND (cancer OR tumor OR tumor OR neoplas* OR malignan*) AND suicid*. In this review, we adhered to PRISMA statement. Results: Nine papers met inclusion criteria. Women with breast or gynecological cancers showed higher suicide rates compared to the general population. Ovarian cancer was associated with higher suicide risk and suicidal ideation compared to other gynecological cancers. The extent of surgical demolition was positively associated with both. Psychological factors, such as self‐perceived burden and alexithymia, might also influence suicidal thinking. Conclusions: Women with breast and gynecological cancer are at high risk of suicide. Background: Lynch syndrome carriers ('carriers') are presented with complex, emotionally laden choices regarding management of increased genetic cancer risks. Decision aids encourage active involvement in values‐based health decisions. This paper aimed to address the research question: How do Lynch syndrome carriers make sense of their chances of developing cancer, and what are the implications for providing support with decision making about genetic cancer risk management? Methods: Adult carriers were recruited through a genetics service or involvement with Lynch Syndrome UK. Semi‐structured interviews explored lived experiences of carriers' access to care with a focus on decision support. Themes were constructed using framework analysis. These were developed into a conceptual model with recommendations for codevelopment of improved information and support including a tailored decision aid to complement integrated healthcare. Results: Twenty participants included 12 women and eight men, half with a history of cancer. Six overarching themes were: (1) finding balance with Lynch; (2) living 'on higher alert'; (3) managing uncertainty: 'I've thought about it a lot'; (4) burden of responsibility: 'It's on me'; (5) access to joined‐up care and support: 'There's something missing'; and (6) influence/pressure from others. Conclusions: This qualitative interview study provided in‐depth insights from Lynch syndrome carriers about their lived experiences, informed by their values. Recommendations to empower carriers to make sense of genetic cancer risks and support decisions included accessible, trusted information, educated healthcare professionals, shared decision making, and joined‐up integrated care pathways complemented by tailored decision aids. Objectives: As part of a wider study describing the impact of a breast cancer diagnosis on lifestyle behaviours, this paper describes the impact of a breast cancer diagnosis on alcohol consumption and factors influencing consumption. Methods: Cross‐sectional online survey of 140 people (138 women) and interviews with 21 women diagnosed with breast cancer in the last 10 years. Results: Of the 100 survey participants who drank alcohol 25% were drinking at increasing or higher risk levels and 17% strongly wanted to change their drinking behaviour. The habitual aspects of alcohol consumption were the strongest predictor of current alcohol consumption behaviours. Social norms and perceptions about conflicting information were substantial barriers to change. Conclusions: Breast cancer survivors need accurate information about the risks of alcohol consumption and guidelines in order to make informed decisions about making changes to their behaviour. Interventions to support breast cancer survivors to reduce alcohol consumption need to focus on the development of healthy habits and may benefit from a focus which includes partners and friends. Objective: This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of digital and face‐to‐face interventions in reducing fear of cancer recurrence (FCR) among individuals with cancer. Methods: This study was conducted in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta‐Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines for evaluating the efficacy of psychological interventions for FCR published between July 2018 and December 2021. We searched for research papers using PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane and assessed their quality using the Revised Cochrane risk‐of‐bias tool for randomized trials. Results: Of the 2113 identified studies, we analyzed 17 samples (N = 1482) from 14 studies, of which 13 were RCTs. The overall sample showed a moderate effect size (Hedges' g = 0.607; 0.356 to 0.858; p < 0.001; I2 = 81.29%) in FCR reduction. The overall effect size was 0.621 (95% CI, 0.276 to 0.966; p < 0.001; I2 = 81.78%) for face‐to‐face interventions and 0.517 (95% CI, 0.093 to 0.941; p = 0.017; I2 = 83.19%) for digital interventions. The difference between the two effect sizes was not statistically significant. Conclusion: Our meta‐analysis suggests that digital interventions are moderately effective in reducing FCR, similar to face‐to‐face interventions. However, given the high degree of heterogeneity, this conclusion should be interpreted with caution. Objective: There is a need for tailored interventions aimed at promoting the sustainable return to work (RTW) of cancer survivors. As managers have a primary role in supporting cancer survivors to return to work, a better understanding of the "cancer survivor‐manager" dyadic process is much needed. The aim of this paper is to introduce the cancer survivor‐manager dyad in the context of RTW of cancer survivors, and to inform future studies by presenting theoretical, conceptual, and methodological considerations. Conclusions: Different theoretical, conceptual, and methodological aspects are addressed that open new perspectives concerning the cancer survivor‐manager dyad. Among the theoretical and conceptual aspects, we highlight the interest of developing dyadic coping models specific to the cancer survivor‐manager dyad. This would allow the conceptualization of their interpersonal dynamics and to frame interventions aimed at supporting cancer survivors and managers. In addition, we encourage to study in more detail the quality of the relationship between the cancer survivor and manager, including its impact on work‐related outcomes of the cancer survivor. Methodologically, the actor‐partner interdependence model could be relevant to identify any interdependence in the cancer survivor‐manager dyad. We also recommend using longitudinal and prospective studies to investigate the cancer survivor‐manager dyad, as these studies are well suited to identify evolutive and dynamic aspects of the cancer survivor‐manager dyad. Lastly, we propose a recruitment strategy of the dyad by involving a trustworthy third party, to respect the ethical framework, and the privacy and voluntary choice of cancer survivors. Key points: The success of the implementation of managerial actions supporting the cancer survivor's return to work depends on the manager's and cancer survivor's willingness and ability to act as a unit.Studies focusing on the cancer survivor‐manager dyad are needed and a specific conceptual model would be useful to conceptualize the interpersonal dynamics.It is important to identify determinants of the quality of the cancer survivor‐manager relationship, and their effect on the return‐to‐work process.To study the cancer survivor‐manager dyad, the use of the actor‐partner interdependence model and prospective longitudinal studies are recommended.For the recruitment of cancer survivor‐manager dyads, it is recommended to employ a cancer survivor‐focused approach involving a trustworthy third party.
