Today, regardless of the business or industry involved, graduates will need the skills required to solve various workplace issues. For several years, the author used a project technique with creative problem solving projects to help students understand and resolve a multitude of contemporary problems, including those in engineering, technology and business. Recognizing the variety and complexity of workplace issues, and the relevance and adaptability of creative problem-solving to situations in different disciplines, the author developed a project technique to help students understand and solve multidisciplinary problems. The technique involved several components, including a requirement for students to create a physical model representing the solution for those problems. To ensure an accurate and thorough evaluation of the project technique, the author used several assessment instruments. In the paper, the author described and evaluated the major components of the project technique. The author identified the benefits derived from using the technique as a way to learn about different workplace issues and develop solutions for those concerns. Also, pretests and posttests were administered to compare student understanding of creative problem solving and the specific workplace issues involved. Diversity issues are an everyday concern in the workplace and society in general. Recognizing the relevance of diversity, career success will require that students have the skills necessary for effectively dealing with diversity-related problems. To facilitate this endeavor, the author developed a multidisciplinary Diversity Model Project. The project was designed to help students use creative problem solving to learn about diversity issues and create a physical model representing solutions for those problems. In the paper, the author described the major components of the Diversity Model Project. The paper identified the benefits derived from using the Project as a way to learn about diversity issues and develop solutions for those concerns. In addition to evaluating the various components of the Project, including the physical model of the solution, the author also administered a Pretest and Posttest. Also, the paper provided guidelines that can be used by engineering, technology and business faculty to develop similar multidisciplinary learning projects to facilitate student understanding of diversity-related concerns. The accelerated global competitiveness and rapidly increasing level of higher education have necessitated implementing innovative ways and novel techniques to facilitate teaching and learning in engineering education. This not only ensures better understanding and learning of the students but also saves time and efforts, and enhances the success rates to maintain high throughput. The present paper discusses the evaluation of the effectiveness of some innovative teaching and learning techniques in the form of feedback analysis of the students. Some innovative and emerging techniques such as mind mapping, flipped classroom teaching, digital stories, and problem and project based learning etc. have been used while teaching manufacturing system design subject. A feedback questionnaire with a total of fifteen questions on the effectiveness of the applied teaching and learning techniques was developed and distributed to the students for anonymous feedback. The analysis of the feedback revealed that almost 90 % of the students who participated in the survey agreed that the techniques benefited them intensively. A detailed quantitative analysis of the feedback is presented in this paper. In this era of the fourth industrial revolution, modernization, sustainability, research and innovations are primary interventions in all segments of commercial and social activities. Higher education is being globalized and the role of information and communication technologies especially in engineering education is prominent. Engineering education 4.0 is a pedagogical approach inspired by the fourth industrial revolution for flawlessness, satisfaction, time saving, skill development, and efficiency enhancement in engineering education. From curriculum development to assessment, generation of results, and student feedback, all important tasks and activities are accomplished by the assistance of information and communication technologies. The roles and responsibilities of the stakeholders for the success of engineering education 4.0 are manifolds. Engineering education 4.0 is only possible when instructors, learners, institutes, and universities understand, adopt, disseminate and promote modern teaching and learning technologies to be internationally competitive and sustainable. This paper aims to present a review of how project management has been addressed and developed through the years. This review has been undertaken by theoretical fusion with the management theory jungle first espoused by Koontz (1961;1980) then by articulating the research agenda in project management and the findings suggest the existence of classical project management, rethinking project management, brave new world and project studies groups within the research agenda. Modern firms must be willing to consider offshoring engineering labor to reduce costs and accelerate development in order to compete in the emerging electric vehicle (EV) market. Currently, there is some information available regarding guidance and factors to consider when managing offshored technical services, but the guidance is written at a high level and it is not relevant specifically for design engineering departments. It may be difficult for firms to discern what guidelines are applicable to their industry, and whether those guidelines correlate to their specific engineering department. This paper explains a research instrument used to identify stakeholder needs in new offshoring programs, as well as identify performance gaps in existing offshoring utilization. The research instrument design is based on the SERVQUAL methodology and it leverages existing offshoring guidelines and considerations, which are aligned to the McKinsey 7-S categories. This tool was applied to an existing EV firm's engineering department and it highlights some specific offshoring performance gaps that can be addressed by the department. Innovation in the United States (US) has begun to lag behind other developed nations, jeopardizing the nation's economic health and political influence. While federal agencies and policymakers focus efforts on spurring innovation through business-centered initiatives, universities play a prominent role in spurring innovation long-term by developing the next generation of innovative engineers. The University of Arkansas' College of Engineering (COE) is addressing this challenge by infusing innovation principles and processes into its curriculum by creating new courses and adapting existing ones. These courses will equip COE students with the skills and experiences to become engineering innovators. Entrepreneurs and industry sponsors are partnering with COE to provide real-world innovation experiences, which will ultimately help fulfill employer demand for engineering graduates with highly marketable innovation skills. This paper provides an overview of the relevant literature used to design and develop COE's Innovation Initiative: 1) the First-year Innovation Experience, a two-semester freshman engineering innovation sequence focused on innovation; 2) Industrial Engineering Senior Design/Capstone Experience, an adaptation of a two-semester IE course sequence through which student teams implement complex innovation projects. Project management has become a paramount tool in project development, regardless the sector or size of a project, Project Management Methodologies (PMM) is employed to enhance the probability of meeting the project targets. According to the recent trend of using the agile approach on different types of projects, it becomes obvious to say that there are two opposite flows - traditional and agile project management approach. The paper starts with a presentation of the traditional approach and the agile movement. It provides an overview of different methodologies of the two sides. The literature review shows a comparison between the two approaches and what the main characteristics of each methodology are. A revolutionary transformation in engineering education is well known since past some years. The fourth industrial revolution is mainly responsible for that. The University of Johannesburg is promoting decolonization of knowledge and Industry 4.0 based higher education interventions to prepare locally relevant and internationally competitive students. As regards to that, a project sponsored by teaching innovation fund, and based on development of virtual lab for manufacturing engineering education has been done. This paper reports an analysis of the feedback of students who explored the Industry 4.0 virtual lab developed for manufacturing engineering education. A feedback questionnaire with a total of twenty questions on virtual lab learning management system and its effectiveness was developed and distributed to the students for anonymous feedback. It is found from the analysis of the feedback that 90% of the students were agreed with the quality and effectiveness of the developed virtual lab. This case study research is conducted to measure the Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) of the heavy engineering industry and compare it with world class standards. The primary and secondary data were needed for the study. Primary data was collected from the production line of case industry and secondary data was obtained from maintenance department of the company (previous six months' data) and the internet resources. The data included planned and unplanned downtime, number of shifts, shift lengths, plant operating times, actual operating time, rework and repairs which were necessary for computation of OEE metrics. Moreover, the data on time between failures and time of repairs was also collected from maintenance department of the company. The data was analyzed in MS excel and Minitab. Availability, performance, quality and overall OEE were calculated as 77.50%, 58.94, 97.42% and 44.5% respectively. Whereas, world class standards are availability (90%), performance (95%), quality (99.90%) and overall OEE (85%). To perform like world class manufacturing systems is far bigger challenge than just running it. This paper provides the guidance for calculating OEE and its comparison with world class standards. Pneumatic conveying of powders is an engineering process used for conveying dry granulate or powder material. The aim of this paper is to present a modeling methodology to optimize energy efficiency of pneumatic conveying systems, considering the specific bulk characteristics of the product being conveyed. This work is based on engineering optimization of a workflow with data from an industrial operation commanded by a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) with a control algorithm, performing logical, sequential, and timed tasks for plant control. The PLC communicates with a Human-Machine Interface and a Supervision and Control System, which are the means of interaction through a graphical environment interface with the process operator. By applying mathematics to introduce a systematic method to select the gas (air) pressure and flow necessary to operate a pneumatic conveying system in dense phase, it has been shown, on an industrial scale, the feasibility of controlling a conveying system by manipulating only two input parameters. This allows operation at pre-determined conveying rates with lower power requirements, resulting in a reduction of OPEX. Thus, this research focuses on optimizing energy efficiency to reduce Operational Expenditure (OPEX) through a systematic modeling approach. Because pneumatic conveyance is highly empirical, general models are difficult to establish. Due to these limitations, evaluating energy efficiency is usually limited to a specific experimental range of conditions. Research in maintenance engineering is increasingly focusing on complex systems in which components are subject to various dependencies, such as stochastic, structural, and economic dependences. This paper proposes a mathematical approach to calculate system's availability with stochastic dependence and assesses its effect on the system. From this perspective, Cox Proportional Hazards Model (CPHM), based on the exponential survival distribution, is used. High-quality education is required for a sustainable society, particularly in the engineering profession, where future global leaders play a critical role. To accomplish this, sustainability must be integrated into Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). As people's concerns about the environment's impact on them grow, so does the importance of sustainable development. It is critical to assess students' knowledge and efforts in engineering courses in order to communicate an institution's strategic direction. The purpose of this research is to better identify the level of sustainability implemented by students, who constitute a sizable number of HEI stakeholders. The research was conducted in a HEI in Manila, Philippines, using a mixed methodological approach with a sequential explanatory design. A survey was created to collect and analyze quantitative data, which was then supplemented with qualitative insights from a focus group discussion. The study's findings show how HEIs may improve sustainability by understanding the dynamics of change and acting as change agents. We can develop a more sustainable and responsible engineering profession by including sustainability into education, ultimately contributing to a more sustainable global future. This paper aims to provide an approach to JIDOKA (machine's autonomation) implementation via compute the proficiency value that based on processes' deviation monitoring to besiege any defects chance weaken competitiveness. The product produced after operating multi-surface spaces (OSS), which prone to deviation during its processes and may lead to defect. The proposed methodology interested in controlling processes' deviation via improving the spatiotemporal model with SARIMA via using 72 observations to study and predict the deviation's behavior to stop machine before defect appears (i.e., JIDOKA methodology). A case study of the manufacture of a lawn mower (carburetor's valve) is presented to explain the JIDOKA methodology results that demonstrate it accurately and effectively, whether in forecasting or defect suppression to face the evaporative emissions. The approach is guided by a six-sigma methodology to obtain improved proficiency. The model's fitting and forecasting results are compared with the SES to prove the ability of applying JIDOKA. The proposed methodology implemented in one of the lawn mower Co. The excellent service with full emotional (Kansei) satisfaction for an amusement park is a must. Today the customers expect not only for the amazing show itself, but also the friendliness of staff, the cleanliness of the area, and the benefit package for family as family is the targeted segment for any amusement park industries. In fulfilling the full satisfaction of customer, the amusement park service provider should always provide what the customer needs and close the gap between what expected and perceived by the customer. The challenge is that customer not always at the right time and moment revealing what their expectations and critics. One way to get what genuinely customer feels about the service is through the reviews gathered from social media. In addition, there will be abundant and various customer feedbacks unconstrainted by time or any pressures. Hence, we proposed text mining and Kansei Engineering methodology taken an empirical study on an amusement park services in Indonesia. It was found that the critical Kansei was "safe" and the service attribute was "the amusement park rides for family". The purpose of this study is to present an “Self-Help” alternative approach to developing, building, managing and maintaining of campus infrastructures, facilities and amenities in Nigerian Universities and integrating facilities management, operations and maintenance as part of the engineering education. Currently, Nigerian Universities follows the traditional method of infrastructures and facilities management. Most campuses around the country have delipidated dormitories, and campus roads are in terrible and debilitated conditions. Most campuses lack running water in the dormitories, libraries, offices and laboratories. Student have to walk down two to three stories to fetch water for their use. There is chronic and persistent shortage of electricity supply on campuses. In many universities across the country, students residing on campuses experience up to five days without electricity and had to rely on kerosine lamps for studying. In a country like Nigeria, this should be unacceptable in the 21st century because it hinders student learning and impedes campus growth and improvement. This approach centers on utilizing the services of students to lead operations, management and maintenance of infrastructures and facilities. The expected outcome is to maintain 24 hours electricity and water supply, environmentally safe dormitories and recreation areas, and clean classrooms, offices, and landscaping. This project consists in the set up and preparation of an educational laboratory where the study and implementation of all the techniques and methodologies of Style Design Engineering (SDE) method were fitted. The SDE method, represents a design methodology widely used in the industrial field that proved to add value in the quality of project outcomes. Through numerous previous scientific exercises published and the various projects carried out, the effectiveness of this methodology demonstrated to lead to higher quality project results in the automotive field. It is therefore necessary for the department to have spaces for the exclusive use of this activity, structured in such a way as to be equipped for the training and support of the various students who want to try their skills on car design projects within their final graduation projects. The various phases that make up this activity from a theoretical point of view will then be analyzed and deconstructed to understand which material support they need for their complete realization throughout the process. Implementation of innovative technologies such as AR/VR and 3D printing will be explored to reach the best possible result in the student's works. PT. Denapella Lestari is a company engaged in metal stamping, machining parts, and the engineering industry. This company products car and motorcycle parts. PT. Denapella Lestari itself continuously checks the products produced, one of the products of PT. Denapella Lestari is a Ring CVT. However, the production process cannot be separated from errors that cause defective products and do not meet general standards to be sent to customers. Therefore, quality control analysis is needed to maintain the quality produced using the DMAIC and Root Cause Analysis method consisting of five stages: define, measure, analyze, improve, and control. One of the problems that exist in the company is the number of defective Ring CVT products, especially in 2020, as many as 2262 pieces with 14 types of defect and are the value of 4.50 sigma. Most researchers conduct experiments on the Target-Performance Measure (e.g. mean) without considering the Noise-Performance Measure (e.g. signal-to-noise ratio). Robust Design is a technological breakthrough that enables efficient experimental and simulation methods to optimize parameters based on Performance Measures Independent of Adjustment (PerMIA). Robust Design minimizes sensitivity to noise factors. It uses orthogonal arrays as an efficient analytical method resorting to the 2-step optimization: 1) reducing variability; 2) reducing bias. Over the past three decades, the engineering education and engineering programs in the United States and abroad have gone through several reforms. Their curricula have gone through significant revisions and refinements. Several intense reforms and activities in engineering programs have primarily concentrated in two areas. These include new and recently developed knowledge into the courses and curricula, primarily utilizing hands-on and experiential learning methods to prepare engineers' next generation. In addition, the emergence of professional/soft skills including communications-presentation and public speaking and writing, entrepreneurial and business strategies awareness, leadership, and ability to work in a team whose members represent different and diverse backgrounds concerning ethnicity, educational background, cultural diversity, etc. These types of reforms often are originated by some pioneering programs and eventually are caught up by other institutions either due to the recommendation of alumni and former students, members of the advisory board, or other program's constituencies. Furthermore, aside from some articles that appeared in the academic journals and conference proceedings, there is not much information publicly available to serve as a guiding light to show the best and most effective methods to incorporate these skills into curricula. And also, the established milestones to measure and compare the engineering program's achievements. The efficacy of various techniques in delivering and instilling these professional/soft skills is often questioned. No factual data regarding the long-term benefits of these skills have been made public. It has also been noticed that programs' status and reputation incorporating these demanded professional skills into their curricula have positively enforced their reported achievements. This research aims to determine how appreciative inquiry promoted the culture of innovation in an engineering school and based on the results that were obtained to propose a plan of activities. Appreciative inquiry took place in a school of industrial engineering at the university in northern Peru, where thirty-seven students participated. These students participated through interviews and surveys by inquiring them about the best of what they have done in order to imagine what could be. Then a survey is conducted to determine the student perception of corporate style about the industrial engineering program (IEP). Analyzing the data, the hypothesis is accepted: that appreciative inquiry has promoted the culture of innovation in the industrial engineering program. This can be evidenced in the participation in more academic events, meeting and courses, in national and international calls about innovation, etc. Results obtained by students forced to the IEP to a greater participation and involvement in a process towards a culture of innovation. Women are often under-represented in academic and professional fields of engineering and natural sciences. Retaining and strengthening them in these postgraduate programs is one of the most effective measures for promoting gender equality in the field. However, there is a lack of studies defining and analyzing the profiles and needs of these women. In 2018, we collected data about 916 women at the best university of South America, through an official request of information followed by an online survey. The results show they are between 21 and 30 years old, single, do not have children, and are strongly dependent on their scholarship income. The desire to become a professor/scientist motivated them to enter the program. The campus of their postgraduate program is not the same where they did their graduations, and their families do not live in the same town of their campus. One-third of them declared they want to have children in the medium-term. It is surprising that 65.12% refused to answer questions about their social status as postgraduate students, despite being informed that the survey was anonymous. This may indicate that being a woman doing a postgraduate program in engineering or sciences is a taboo in Brazil. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the present work the Stylistic Design Engineering (SDE), a structured engineering methodology developed to carry out car design projects, is applied to the creation of a new reliable and robust utility vehicle, also suitable for traveling in the countryside. In particular, the design project aimed at the possibility of launching a new Citroen 2CV that would maintain the lightness and reduced fuel consumption of the previous model but that would combine these characteristics with greater eco-sustainability, thanks to electric drive, and greater comfort for passengers. SDE consists of the following steps: (1) sketches; (2) 2D CAD drawings; (3) 3D CAD models; (4) 3D printed models (also referred to as styling models); (5) Optimization of maquettes through technical objectives. This project deals with the exterior restyling of the Citroen 2CV and was carried out using different technologies and design methodologies that will be further explained in detail, such as the Pininfarina method, the QFD (Quality Function Deployment) and the 6 Sigma method. The work was organized in different phases and in all these phases the quality methodologies mentioned above were used. At first the Citroen style was studied, a fundamental step to better understand the characteristics of the brand and also the main characteristics carried out over the years of the product's life. Subsequently, the freehand sketching phase was carried out, inspired by the considerations made in the previous study phase. This phase continued until a satisfactory form was found by analyzing and discarding the various proposals of the various types of style. Once the definitive proposal was chosen, the definitive threedimensional shape was obtained and on it it was possible to evaluate proportions and dimensions, also thanks to the rendering software. Accurate diagnosis of diseases and their level of intensity is a key aspect of health. A minor error in medical diagnosis, besides diverting the course of treatment and increasing the duration of therapy, raises the cost of services, leads to psychological trauma, and most importantly jeopardizes patient safety. The shorter the time of diagnosis, the easier it is to prevent, fight, treat and control the disease at lower intensity levels. Thus, it is essential to provide a model to deal with the possible errors of diagnosis in healthcare system. The present article introduces an engineering method for detecting and diagnosing faults in patient treatment. In the first phase, the factors affecting the emergence of the disease are predicted using Perceptron neural network. In the second stage residual values are produced; and in the third stage, in case there is a fault, the sources and causes of the fault are examined with the help of statistical quality control charts.
