In society, there is widespread and growing acceptance of the value of cooperation between industry and universities being collaborative Research and Development (R&D) domain and industrial policy the fuel of knowledge-based economies. In this paper, different domains of cooperation between the University and Industry as well as their generated benefits for each partner are identified. These benefits have been assigned to each domain of cooperation, showing a large number of benefits associated to collaborative R&D. Leading us to make a statement - collaborative R&D is the key cooperation domain for sustainable long-term university-industry partnerships. Suggestions are given about how to continue this research study.

Abstract writing is a very important since it is the piece of formal writing which should attract the attention of the reader and make him/her read the rest of the paper. Thus, it must be clear, concise, coherent, and powerful enough to attract the reader and provide him/her with the key information about the content of a research paper. All university students have to write an abstract in English in their qualification papers. However, non-native students of English usually have difficulties in writing an abstract in English. For example, the Czech students lack formal writing skills in English since the skill of formal writing is not developed enough in their native language, i.e. Czech. Therefore, the aim of this article is to discuss the use of an off-line scaffolding tool, which can help students develop an abstract in English, as well as to demonstrate how this tool can be incorporated in the whole Course of Practical English taught at the Faculty of Informatics and Management of the University of Hradec Kralove in the Czech Republic. The application was developed for students as support to a face-to-face class instruction, which proved to be insufficient in teaching students how to write an abstract in English. The application reflects the structure and sentence functions of the abstract and provides students with a model abstract, as well as with additional formulations. Overall, the application was designed with the purpose to enhance student’s skill of writing an abstract in English, as well as to lead students to successfully complete the task by making the application user-friendly - easy-to-use, accessible and transferrable as far as the knowledge is concerned. The application aims to enhance students’ autonomous learning by tailoring the content to their specific needs and making it accessible anytime and from anywhere.

Success management can bring valuable contributions to improve project results and stakeholders’ relationships. However, the success management process must be explicitly integrated into project management approaches, guides and methodologies (such as PMBOK, PRINCE2 or PM2), which is not currently happening. The purpose of this position paper is to discuss the need and importance for this integration and to present a first proposal on how this can be operationalized. To support the position, the methodology of the European Union PM2 was used. The result of the integration demonstrates that it is possible to advance management and raise the level of project success.

The oil impregnated paper capacitance graded transformer bushings serves as the external connection device of the transformer to support and connect the insulation, and its insulation state is related to the safe and stable operation of substation equipment.In this paper, a simulation model of 110kV oil impregnated paper capacitance graded transformer bushings is constructed on the commercial finite element software platform based on the actual size of the bushing and the principle of equal capacitance and steps. The paper calculate the potential and radial electric field distribution of the bushing under the normal working voltage, and analyze the influence of the aluminum plate on the radial electric field distribution of the bushing, verifying the rationality of the design principle based on equal capacitance and steps.

The remarkable increase in the number of authors and publications is observed in almost all fields in last decade. Inherently publication engages process of peer review and is a vital segment in research and development progression. The Reviewer Assignment Problem (RAP) is one of the most important and apparent process that involves the process of assigning a reviewer to paper. RAP has motivated many researchers in the recent decade as the conference organizers and journal editors are demanding for automatic assignment with fair and accurate reviews. Fair and accurate reviews mostly depend on accurate expert assignment to the paper. RAP entails two core phases: matching submitted manuscript and experts, and expert assignment to paper for review. Matching manuscript and expert involves building both paper and expert profiles correctly and then matching them accurately. Similarly assigning an expert to paper accurately involves solving assignment problem by satisfying constraints like a conflict of interest, fulfilling coverage requirements and balancing the load of the expert reviewer. Many researchers have contributed to the topic by proposing solutions for RAP. Each proposed methodology necessitates using an appropriate performance metric for proving its effectiveness. In the case of RAP, we can measure the performance of the whole process; one can measure the performance of the core phases separately as both phases engross different processes and different metric. Testing performance and reducing errors in phases will lead to overall improved results. Both subjective (also known as qualitative) and objective (also known as quantitative) measures have been practiced by the researchers. In this paper, we present trends in using performance measures, their applicability and suitability for RAP. It is observed that ‘Unanimity’ is the most appropriate measure for the overall review process. Use of performance measures- matching score, authority, coverage, and diversity are the most suitable for measuring the performance of phase one- matching paper and reviewer. It is noticed that load balance, fairness and accuracy are suitable for measuring the performance of phase two that assigns a reviewer to paper by satisfying constraints. The study derives the conclusion that hybrid approach with the proper combination of these measures is the best for measuring the performance of process of assigning reviewer to the paper.

Dyslexia is a type of Specific Learning Disability (SLD) that affects the educational development of a student, as it is the reason of difficulties not only in writing or reading but also in other disciplines like Mathematics. Research has proven that Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) can have a positive effect to the educational development of a dyslexic student. In this paper, twenty 6th-grade primary-school students were observed while using computers during exams - ten with Dyslexia and ten with no SLDs. All students were called to solve a digital test and a paper test that were including some basic mathematic operations. The researcher recorded and examined the differences between the results from the two tests. Descriptive and deductive statistical analysis showed that students had better results when examined via a computer compared to a traditional written examination.

The subsector of pulp and paper presented in 2013 an electric power consumption of 9.3% of electricity consumption in the industrial sector in Brazil. It experienced a significant growth of production in the last 20 years, exceeding 160%, and their consumption of electricity increased by 130%, reaching the level of 19,594GWh. Due to its characteristics, with a known structure and production processes, and its importance in the country's industrial sector, this subsector was selected for study in this paper, to evaluate the behavior of its long-term annual electricity demand, at the horizon of 20 years ahead, in energy efficiency scenarios through bottom-up approach. This approach is data intensive and requires data with good quality; it consists of a hierarchical structure that enables to check how specific actions can affect the results at each level and its effect on higher levels.

In a paper introduction presentation of scientific papers, the presenter needs to understand the contents of a paper, summarizes them by slides and explains them to the audiences, such as participants the paper introduction activity, and discuss the contents with participants. However, if the presenter does not have enough skills for reading the contents deeply or for creating understandable slides, participants are not able to get the importance of the paper precisely and do not have fruitful discussion. For such situation, participants give questions to understand the paper. Therefore, questions regarding to the contents from other participants implicitly suggest problems with the presenter’s understanding of the paper and creating the slides. Therefore, it is valuable for the presenter to reflect on their skills that are used to prepare the paper introduction presentation based on the questions asked by other participants. This research proposes a reflection support environment for promoting the active and sufficient reflection using the questions asked by other participants. Our environment prepares an interface that records the activities involved in preparing the presentation, such as understanding papers and creating slides. Our environment also provides an interface with which the presenter can compare the recorded activities and the participants’ questions. By comparing the questions with their understanding of papers and created slides, the presenter is encouraged to recognize the insufficient points of their reading and presentation methods.

Paper currency recognition (PCR) is an important area of pattern recognition. A system for the recognition of paper currency is one kind of intelligent system which is a very important need of the current automation systems in the modern world of today. It has various potential applications including electronic banking, currency monitoring systems, money exchange machines, etc. This paper proposes an automatic paper currency recognition system for paper currency. A method of recognizing paper currencies has been introduced. This is based on interesting features and correlation between images. It uses Radial Basis Function Network for classification. The method uses the case of Saudi Arabian paper currency as a model. The method is quite reasonable in terms of accuracy. The system deals with 110 images, 10 of which are tilted with an angle less than 15o. The rest of the currency images consist of mixed including noisy and normal images 50 each. It uses fourth series (1984–2007) of currency issued by Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency (SAMA) as a model currency under consideration. The system produces accuracy of recognition as 95.37%, 91.65%, and 87.5%, for the Normal Non-Tilted Images, Noisy Non-Tilted Images, and Tilted Images respectively. The overall Average Recognition Rate for the data of 110 images is computed as 91.51%. The proposed algorithm is fully automatic and requires no human intervention. The proposed technique produces quite satisfactory results in terms of recognition and efficiency.

Considering the total number of citations as the sole indicator of a research paper’s success is not always correct. Furthermore, considering the total number of reads (downloads, views, and usage) is not always correct either. Therefore, this paper proposes a new measure called paper impact effectiveness (PIE) that combines both indicators to evaluate the impact of research papers in order to provide a more realistic and fair indicator. Therefore, the total number of downloads for the most popular papers, selected from a single journal, in addition to total citations from Google Scholar were obtained to prove this paper’s argument. Universities, research ranking agencies, and researchers can use the PIE value to assess the impact (i.e., value) of research papers.

The omnipresent pervasiveness of personal devices will expand the applicability of the Dynamic Data Driven Application Systems (DDDAS) paradigm in innumerable ways. While every single smartphone or wearable device is potentially a sensor with powerful computing and data capabilities, privacy and security in the context of human participants must be addressed to leverage the infinite possibilities of dynamic data driven application systems. We propose a security and privacy preserving framework for next generation systems that harness the full power of the DDDAS paradigm while (1) ensuring provable privacy guarantees for sensitive data; (2) enabling field-level, intermediate, and central hierarchical feedback-driven analysis for both data volume mitigation and security; and (3) intrinsically addressing uncertainty caused either by measurement error or security-driven data perturbation. These thrusts will form the foundation for secure and private deployments of large scale hybrid participant-sensor DDDAS systems of the future.

In this expository work, we sketch some applications of annotated logics. Such logics were discovered in the late 1980s and nowadays have become one of the most fertile logics for applications. They constitute a two-sorted logic, and they are paraconsistent and in general paracomplete and non-alethic logics.

There are a number of issues which are involved with organizing a conference. Among these issues, assigning conference-papers to reviewers is one of the most difficult tasks. Assigning conference-papers to reviewers is automatically the most crucial part. In this paper, we address this issue of paper-to-reviewer assignment, and we propose a method to model the reviewers, based on the matching degree between the reviewers and the papers by combining a preference-based approach and a topic-based approach. We explain the assignment algorithm and show the evaluation results in comparison with the Hungarian algorithm.

Lepton is an automaton for literate executable papers. It enables researchers to publish their work in the form of a script or program that can generate the research paper along with the corresponding source code, input data and output results. Lepton files do not contain pre-computed results, but the full set of instructions for reproducing the results presented in the manuscript. Taking inspiration from literate programming for code review and code re-use, we have written Lepton to facilitate the review and re-use of computational methods. Lepton is designed to provide strong guarantees for the reproducibil-ity of the results, many features for easily applying the methods to new data while remaining unobtrusive and easy to deploy in any environment. Lepton is designed for writing reproducible technical reports during method development, and journal manuscripts when the research is polished. Developped independently from the Elsevier Executable Paper Grand Challenge, it addresses similar issues and objectives. This manuscript was written with Lepton.

For centuries, the research paper have been the main vehicle for scientific progress. From the paper, readers in the scientific community are expected to extract all the relevant information necessary to reproduce and validate the results presented by the paper's authors. However, the increased use of computer software in science makes reproducing scientific results increasingly difficult. The research paper in its current state is no longer sufficient to fully reproduce, validate, or review a paper's experimental results and conclusions. This impedes scientific progress. To remedy these concerns, we introduce PaperMâche, a new system for creating dynamic, executable research papers. The key novelty of PaperMâche is its use of virtual machines, which lets readers and reviewers easily view and interact with a paper, and reproduce key experimental results. For authors, the Paper Mâche workbench provides an easy-touse interface to build an executable paper. By transforming the static research paper into a dynamic and interactive entity, Paper Mâche brings the presentation of scientific results into the 21st century. We believe that Paper Mâche will become indispensable to the scientific process, and increase the visibility of key findings among members and non-members of the scientific community.

Standard computing will be characterized as a functional extension of syntax. Using BICA claim of continuity between human-animal-robot cognitive architectures, we will define strong semantics as the ability of a cognitive architectures to consult cognitive maps, in particular phenomenal content maps (Damasio, 2010). This follows the work on semantic maps, yet the maps we postulate are based on phenomenal markers not syntax and predicative logic. We define extra strong semantic maps (and extra strong computing in general) as those that go beyond human capabilities. The goal of strong semantic computing in autonomous robotics should be to ‘know what is going on’ (Sanz, 2012) before engaging in detailed logical analysis. Such sort of Gestalt computing is needed in advanced autonomous robotics, especially robots functioning in human environments.

The paper introduces a new taxonomy of ill-posed parametric inverse problems, formulated as global optimization ones. It systematizes irremediable problems, which appear quite often in the real life but cannot be solved using the regularization method. The paper also shows a new way of solving irremediable inverse problems by a complex memetic approach including: genetic computation with adaptive accuracy, random sample clustering and a sophisticated local approximation of misfit plateau regions. Finally, we use a benchmark function featuring cross-shaped plateau to discuss some factors that influence the quality of plateau shape approximation.

In advanced missions, handling thin and soft membranes is difficult for robots. This task is composed of several sub-tasks, including turning and removing a sheet from a pile of papers on a table, folding paper, and sticking two pieces of paper together. In this study, a hand robot turns and removes a sheet from a pile of papers, and ensures that only one sheet is grasped. To perform this task, two robotic fingers compress the piled papers in the normal direction of the table with a specific force as they close. We therefore incorporated position-based force control into our system; for the force controller, we adopted stiffness control that calculates position modification proportionally to the difference between the target force and an external force measured by the tactile sensor. With this controller, the robot was able to remove a sheet from a pile of papers and ensure that only one sheet was removed. Using this discrimination, the maximum-minimum shearing forces are better classified than with normal force distribution deviation.

Research collaboration is very important in the modern scientific world, because it provides a wide range of opportunities, from the knowledge transfer between departments, institutions or even countries, to experimental research, where scientists also share materials and equipment. Because of that the field of building and analyzing collaboration networks grows in popularity. In this work we propose the methodology of building a hybrid Scientific similarity network based on the features obtained from two leading Scientific platforms – ResearchGate and Scopus. Experimental evaluation demonstrates good quality of the proposed approach and ability of the hybrid network to generate interconnections not distinguishable when using a single network.

Small area femtocell increases the energy efficiency of the cellular network as the distance between base station and user is very less. Mobile femtocell causes the spectrum reuse to be used at very large extent making spectral efficiency suffer. This paper discusses recently researched techniques that have been used to increase the spectral efficiency in mobile femtocell network. But these techniques also come with their own limitations. Considering this, data aggregation and compression technique can be consider as one of the best contender to increase the spectral efficiency in cellular network which is also been explained in this paper.

Open source software (OSS) is a software product with the source code made public so that anyone can read, analyze, and change or improve the code. The use of this software is under a license, like Apache, GNU, MIT, Mozilla Public, and Eclipse Public License. Open source software development (OSSD) provides high quality assurance through user testing and peer reviews. The quality of these products depends on the size of the product community. This paper discusses the stakeholders of the OSS community, the quality assurance frameworks and models proposed in some studies, some statistics about OSS, the problems that affect the quality of OSSD, and the advantages and disadvantages of OSS compared to closed source software. This allows us to understand how we can achieve and improve the quality assurance and quality control of OSSD.

We are investigating the use of natural user interfaces (NUI) applied to information and communication technologies (ICT) supporting workplace dynamics in partnership with mental health providers at a hospital in Brazil. We are using a participatory design (PD) process to uncover their paper-based workflow, defined here as paper user interface workflow (PUI) and their appropriation of mobile technologies supporting patients’ socialization process. We chose this group as they have no experience with graphical user interface (GUI) based interaction, are highly nomadic, have a refined workflow, have a high level of interdependence and are appropriating mobile technologies and social media into their workplace; thus, we believe their perspective within a PD setting provide unique insights into NUI design to provide high fidelity data and real time communication, enhancing data accessibility and fidelity on communication among the professionals. Our PD process has produced workflow representations and we are presenting two scenarios; from them we are proceeding to low- fidelity prototyping.

Reviewing the computational part of scientific papers puts a lot of effort on referees: even if authors provide their data and code the referee often needs to install additional software on his machine and figure out which parts of the code belong to which part of the manuscript. As a result, computational results or often not reviewed at all. We propose a new web service which outsources validation of computational results in executable papers to an independent third party. Our system adapts the well-tested toolbox currently checking R extension packages in software repositories like CRAN to check manuscripts in paper repositories. In addition, paper packages can easily be downloaded from the server and installed to replicate results locally by anyone wishing to do so.

The paper describes a system for executable papers for publishers enabling them to reuse content and to generate further advances of science and engineering. The executable algorithmic descriptions within a paper are presented in natural language sentences and basic code, thereby making long term compatibility absolute. Authors are required to use publicly numerical libraries on the Internet or references to publications with executable papers. As used by authors the system automatically creates a web of algorithmic knowledge on the Internet. Novelty of new algorithms in publications can be evaluated by automated tools available to authors, reviewers and readers of scientific papers published.

We present the Lab Wiki, an executable paper platform primarily designed but not limited to networking experiment-based research. The LabWiki leverages the current state of the art tools for the orchestration of experiments in the networking community and propose a new approach to execute and reproduce experiments. We demonstrate the usability of the LabWiki through an example at the boundary between network and high performance computing researches.

Linked Open Science is an approach to solve challenges of an executable paper. It is a combination of four “silver bullets”: 1) publication of scientific data, metadata, results, and provenance information using Linked Data principles, 2) open source and web-based environments for executing, validating and exploring research, 3) Cloud Computing for effcient and distributed computing, and 4) Creative Commons for the legal infrastructure. We will use a realistic scientific research setting related to research on deforestation of the Brazilian Amazon rainforest to provide scenarios to illustrate the application of Linked Open Science.

International audience; This proposal describes how data, program code, and presentation can be stored together in a single file suitable for electronic publication and permitting the reproduction of computational results.. Universality, effciency, platformindependence, automated verifiability, and provenance tracking are the major design criteria. Existing and well-tested technology is used as much as possible, the two major building blocks being the Hierarchical Data Format for storage and the Java Virtual Machine for platform-independent code representation and secure execution.

In this work we describe the design of our simulation tool for solid state lasers. The software is based on modules to simplify several complex processes. Primarily, the adaptation of laser physics (e.g. thermal lensing, optical wave) with the appropriate simulation technique. Another aspect is to provide the possibility of exchanging the applied calculation methods or even to change the representation of the computational domain on demand.

What is the nature of knowledge representation needed for human-level artificial intelligence? This position paper contends that to achieve human-level AI, a system architecture for human-level knowledge representation would benefit from a neuro-symbolic approach combining deep neural networks with a ‘natural language of thought’ and would be greatly handicapped if relying only on formal logic systems.

This research focuses on determining the potential of biogas generation for combustion from the Zungo pig manure (manure mixture of the three sizes of the pig in a proportion of 33.33% for each size) located in the department of the Atlantic-Colombia. The properties of the biogas obtained were evaluated with a gas analyzer and a chromatograph, demonstrating that, under controlled temperature conditions, after the bio digestion of Zungo pig manure there is a methane content greater than 50%, which is acceptable demonstrating that this biogas is flammable. It was also established that there is a correlation between pH and methane content in biogas, so it is required to control it in the process. Esta investigación se enfoca en determinar el potencial de generación de biogás para combustión a partir del estiércol de cerdo Zungo (mezcla de estiércol de los tres tamaños del cerdo en una proporción de 33,33% para cada tamaño) ubicado en el departamento del Atlántico-Colombia. Las propiedades del biogás obtenido se evaluaron con un analizador de gases y un cromatógrafo, demostrando que, en condiciones de temperatura controlada, luego de la biodigestión del estiércol de cerdo Zungo existe un contenido de metano superior al 50%, lo cual es aceptable demostrando que este biogás es inflamable. También se estableció que existe una correlación entre el pH y el contenido de metano en el biogás, por lo que se requiere controlarlo en el proceso.

Shredded document recovery is an important research sub-field of information security. The paper document is broken into a large number of similar shreds by the shredder. Usually these shreds imply some important information. If they are restored, it will have an important impact on judicial investigation, military command, and archaeological research. Therefore, it has a great value in research of shredded document recovery. In consideration of large differences between languages and great demands for Chinese document recovery, our study will focus on the shredded Chinese document. In this paper, a method of shredded document recovery based on character stroke feature is proposed. We use horizontal strokes to match Chinese characters. Finally the shredded document is restored. In the test of actual sample, the method proposed in this paper has achieved good recovery result. The average accuracy is 13.96% higher than the traditional algorithm.

Aiming to co-channel interference (CCI) for LTE downlink multi-user MIMO-OFDM system, maximizing the successive signal to leakage plus noise ratio (SSLNR) interference cancellation algorithm based on Pre-processing is proposed. The algorithm utilizes SSLNR based on precoding matrix scheme to process emission signal and the known leakages is canceled by dirty paper coding (DPC) algorithm at the transmitter. At the receiver, the received signal are treated by preconditioned matrix, the interference between different users are eliminated in further, the sum-capacity is improved by pre-processing Matrix. Meanwhile, the algorithm is not limited by the number of transmit and receive antennas. The performance improvement is verified by simulation, when BER is 10-4, signal noise ratio (SNR) is improved about 4dB.

Novel organic forms of interactive displays are developed recently from flexible materials that can bend, fold or roll between the hands of its user giving him a wholly new sense of digital interactive media. In this paper, we hold a survey for different OUIs (Organic User Interfaces) and categorize them into four main categories: flat surfaces, non-flat surfaces, digital substrates and handheld devices. Each of which has its uses that suites certain contexts and does not fit others. We discuss each category thoroughly with its possible sub-categories, examples and applications. Each category is noticed to have a physical design that has a great deal of resemblance to the physical form or design of a pharaonic monumental style or type of artifacts from the history of ancient Egypt. The paper highlights the observed resemblance between organic digital displays and ancient monumental displays with respect to the similarities and differences in the sense that they are both used as information displays for targeted users in certain contexts. This unintended physical resemblance points out to where we might inspire novel designs for digital content on interactive displays.

Utilization sago husk as brick’s filler is aimed not only to be insulator for burning process, as shown on sawdust and reed, but also to reduce bad environmental impact indeed. Therefore, it is paramount importance to obtain range of composition of sago husk, as filler upon fly ash brick’s production that results proper quality as building material. Some standard i.e. ASTM C 67-14, ASTM D 2487-06, and SNI 15-2094, 2000 are used in this this research as minimum requirements and quality control of each steps of brick’s production. Eight compositions of sago husk mixed with clay and fly ash i.e. 1.3%, 1.7%, 2%, 2.3%, 2.6%, 2.9%, 3.1%, and 3.3%, will be evaluated on its dimension, weight, initial rate of absorption and compressive strength. The results show that sago husk as filler upon brick’s production decreases the compressive strength of fly ash brick, yet meet the minimum requirement. All composition meet requirement from ASTM C 67-14, ASTM D 2487-06, and SNI 15-2094, 2000. In terms of environmental impact, there might be significant values in reduction of sago husk waste in the river stream, since based on demand analysis, the waste still can be used for admixture of structural bricks.

Developing applications for IoT and Cloud is di ffi cult for a number of reasons; even without considering the inherent complexity of distributed computing, there are several competing platforms, programming languages and communication protocols. It can be argued that this is holding back the industry as a whole: Applications are di ffi cult to write, deploy and manage. In this position paper we present Calvin , a hybrid framework combining ideas from the Actor model and Flow Based Computing. We show that by dividing applications into four well-defined aspects – describe, connect, deploy , and manage – we get an intuitive method for application development, and a flexible, distributed platform for deploying and managing applications. Additionally, we keep Calvin language and platform agnostic by only prescribing a lightweight runtime API, with a limited number of specified communication protocols – with no requirements on the carrier – for communicating with runtimes, between runtimes, and passing data between components.

Biomass is considered as a clean source of renewable energy, utilization of biomass may reduce the environmental pollutions. This paper presents a review of the chemistry and process of depolymerization of biomass; which results in production of oil and gaseous fuels from such important renewable energy source. Also, thermal hydro-cracking of lignin enhances coal liquefaction by producing intermediates which then react further with coal producing lower molecular weight material, which more desirable. Enhancement of coal conversion due to the addition of lignin is found to be a function of time. It is dependent upon temperature of reaction and the type of lignin used. By increasing the ratio of lignin to coal will result in deploymerizing larger portions of coal. This indicates that it can be used as a catalyst in liquefaction of higher molecular weight of hydrocarbon solid fuels such as coal and heavy petroleum fuels.

In this paper we present the Active Documents Paradigm (semantically annotated documents associated with a content commons that holds the corresponding background ontologies) and the Planetary system (as an active document player). We show that the current Planetary system gives a solid foundation and can be extended modularly to address most of the criteria of the Executable Papers Challenge.

The Collage Authoring Environment is a software infrastructure which enables domain scientists to collaboratively develop and publish their work in the form of executable papers. It corresponds to the recent developments in both e-Science and computational technologies which call for a novel publishing paradigm. As part of this paradigm, static content (such as traditional scientific publications) should be supplemented with elements of interactivity, enabling reviewers and readers to reexamine the reported results by executing parts of the software on which such results are based as well as access primary scientific data. Taking into account the presented rationale we propose an environment which enables authors to seamlessly embed chunks of executable code (called assets) into scientific publications and allow repeated execution of such assets on underlying computing and data storage resources, as required by scientists who wish to build upon the presented results. The Collage Authoring Environment can be deployed on arbitrary resources, including those belonging to high performance computing centers, scientific e-Infrastructures and resources contributed by the scientists themselves. The environment provides access to static content, primary datasets (where exposed by authors) and executable assets. Execution features are provided by a dedicated engine (called the Collage Server) and embedded into an interactive view delivered to readers, resembling a traditional research publication but interactive and collaborative in its scope. Along with a textual description of the Collage environment the authors also present a prototype implementation, which supports the features described in this paper. The functionality of this prototype is discussed along with theoretical assumptions underpinning the proposed system.

Artificial neural network (ANN) can be utilized as a tool for modeling the properties of biodiesel fuel those are related to the fatty acid (FA) composition of a feedstock. The cold flow properties (CFP) define the operability for diesel fuel which are strongly influenced by the FA composition of feedstock. Cloud point (CP), pour point (PP) and cold filter plugging point (CFPP) are used commonly to characterize CFP. Prediction of CFP based on the FA composition of feedstock can reduce the experimental effort to produce a biodiesel suitable for a regional climate. In an attempt for this, 9-6-3 back-propagation ANN architecture was implemented to estimate CP, PP and CFPP of biodiesel samples using nine FA components as input data of 103 biodiesel study collected from literature. To check the accuracy of the model developed, refined canola oil (RCO) and waste frying oil (WFO) were converted to biodiesel then, their CP, PP and CFPP temperatures were determined following the EN and ASTM standards. The CFP estimated by the ANN model were in close agreement with the experimental values. When compared with the experimental data, ANN model predicted the CP, PP and CFPP temperatures within 98%, 94% and 96% accuracy, respectively. The model developed has revealed that CFP of biodiesel were influenced primarily by saturation or unsaturation of FA components with a few exceptions. Since the ANN model can be trained from iterations, it predicted CFP with high accuracy inspite of the presence of nonlinearities, i.e. the average of the mean R2 value for the three CFP was found as 0.96.

Anaerobic digestion is a biological process in which the organic material is converted by microorganisms to methane and carbon dioxide (biogas) in the absence of oxygen. This process is interesting but the control on industrial scale spontaneous biological reactions requires good knowledge of the phenomena involved. The search for appropriate models to be use in control theory is now a high priority to optimize fermentation processes and solve important problems, such as the development of renewable energy from biodegradable organic waste. The aim of this study is modeling of biokinetics of anaerobic digestion on several aspects such as microbial activity, substrate degradation and methane production. For this, we developed a mathematical model based on mass balances on biomass, the organic substrate and biogas. This model is then simulate on Matlab using the experimental data from the literature and comparison between other models and our experimental results. The sensitivity of the model to the process parameters was study by varying the initial concentration of the biomass and the dose of the organic substrate.

Class material for computer science courses often contains algorithms and code snippets, as well as the results of their execution. Usually, these are written and tested outside the source document then included via copy-and-paste. Making sure that the code compiles and that the results really correspond to the included code is the teacher's responsibility. Using techniques and ideas from literate programming, we propose to include source code and executable instruc-tions inside the source document. To support this, we have implemented Lepton which is a tool for extracting source code, compiling, executing, and including the results of the documented programs. Consequently, copy-and-paste is eliminated and code output is guaranteed to be up-to-date with source code. This manuscript was written with Lepton.

The measures taken during the COVID-19 pandemic have strengthened Work from Home and the use of digital communication technologies and digital collaboration. The resulting flexibility in terms of control over time and place of work can support workers in improving their work-life balance. In this paper, we investigate whether workers using digital communication technologies made use of this flexibility and changed the distribution of their work hours across the week and day. To answer this question, we investigate the use of an Enterprise Collaboration System in 2019-2022. Using real-world data, a MS Power BI dashboard was created following the steps suggested by the Social Collaboration Analytics Framework (SCAF). The dashboard shows that the system use increased during the COVID-19 pandemic. Furthermore, an expansion of work on weekends and outside of regular working hours can be observed. Although, timely adjustments of use-patterns were highest in the beginning of the pandemic, long-term trends could be observed as well. The results indicate that knowledge workers used digital collaboration technologies to restructure working days, according to their specific personal and business needs while working from home. The paper is a valuable starting point in the context of a long-term interdisciplinary research project on the digitalisation of the workplace. © 2023 The Author(s). Published by Elsevier B.V.

Industry has entered a new age of industrial change which is revolutionising how products are manufactured. Driving this industry change are newly developing digital technologies such as robotics, artificial intelligence, advanced analytics and the industrial internet. This convergence of technology and manufacturing is driving the digital transformation of every industrial segment from operations to logistics, and from aeronautics to retail product manufacture. The technology advances evident from Industry 4.0 will result in industry disruption and build competitive advantages for the organisations who can master the technologies in their manufacturing processes. However, organisations are struggling to develop a tactical methodology to introduce these technologies while simultaneously transforming their organisation cultures and organisations and maximising the benefits. One of the key reasons for the Fourth Industrial Revolution called Industry 4.0 is the need to strengthen the competitiveness of Western European economies, which as a result of the progressing globalization process and rising labor and business costs [1]. A key benefit of the introduction of Industry 4.0 initiatives in a manufacturing plant is to help overcome current operations management limitations, such as, the lack of knowledge on how the process is performing at a specific point in time. This paper will investigate the impact of deploying a range of Industry 4.0 technologies to access machine and operations performance data, to improve equipment reliability and to reduce the costs associated with the maintenance of equipment. With the introduction of the operational data analytics as a result of data extraction from manufacturing equipment, along with integrating other data sources, the business has realised improvements in key metrics like OTIF (On Time in Full), OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness), MTBF (Mean Time Between Failure), MTTR (Mean Time to Return), CuC (Consumable Unit Cost), and Lead Time. This paper discusses this project and the results obtained at Zimmer Biomet while also discussing the research carried out for ZOML to begin its journey on manufacturing digitalisation. The paper starts with a background in Industry 4.0. The next section provides a background on the company where the problem statement and project have come from with some detail on their digitalisation journey. Big data has become omnipresent since most human activities are recorded using various technologies, thus generating huge databases on various platforms such as social media. Human activity has become reflected in these databases, making them suitable for various research that used to be conducted based on more traditional research approaches, such as survey research. Labour markets research is also affected by big data since social media has become one of the most dominant means of communication in various areas, being employed as one of them. This paper aims to map the research field of big data and labor markets using a systematic literature review and bibliography. Web of Science database has been searched using the keywords "big data" and "labo(u)r market". The most relevant papers for the area of big data for labour analysis have been selected, using transparent and consistent criteria. Papers have been analysed using a bibliometric approach supported by the VOSviewer and R bibliometrix, which has been used for detecting various research trends, such as research topics. The assessment of the current research in big data for the labour market has been compiled to detect the research gaps and generate future research directions.

In this paper we describe the selection of a modern build automation tool for an industry research partner of ours, namely an insurance company. Build automation has become increasingly important over the years. Today, build automation became one of the central concepts in topics such as cloud native development based on microservices and DevOps. Since more and more products for build automation have entered the market and existing tools have changed their functional scope, there is nowadays a large number of tools on the market that differ greatly in their functional scope. Based on requirements from our partner company, a build server analysis was conducted. This paper presents our analysis requirements, a detailed look at one of the examined tools and a summarized comparison of two tools.

This paper proposes a control method for the multi-agent pickup and delivery problem (MAPD problem) by extending the priority inheritance with backtracking (PIBT) method to make it applicable to more general environments. PIBT is an effective algorithm that introduces a priority to each agent, and at each timestep, the agents, in descending order of priority, decide their next neighboring locations in the next timestep through communications only with the local agents. Unfortunately, PIBT is only applicable to environments that are modeled as a bi-connected area, and if it contains dead-ends, such as tree-shaped paths, PIBT may cause deadlocks. However, in the real-world environment, there are many dead-end paths to locations such as the shelves where materials are stored as well as loading/unloading locations to transportation trucks. Our proposed method enables MAPD tasks to be performed in environments with some tree-shaped paths without deadlock while preserving the PIBT feature; it does this by allowing the agents to have temporary priorities and restricting agents' movements in the trees. First, we demonstrate that agents can always reach their delivery without deadlock.
