The purpose of this work is to confirm theoretical findings in the field of management of higher education (institutions) and contribute with our own findings on the elements, mechanisms and instruments that affect the quality and effectiveness of managing and organizing higher education at the national and institutional level, and thus contribute to a more efficient and effective higher education. This work will also clarify interdisciplinary connections between various segments of the above mentioned management of higher education (institutions) field, which has not been explained yet. In the introduction of the paper, the impact of higher education on economic development and on knowledge society is explained briefly. Further on, the background of the work is illustrated and the definition of the working problem is explained, which basically refers to the inefficiency of (mostly) publicly-funded higher education and lack of proper managerial solutions and skills at higher education institutions. Furthermore, the role of higher education and major trends in higher education are introduced and discussed. The main contribution of the paper is the matrix of higher education objectives which have to be realized in order to implement a successful higher education and institutions, mainly from managerial and financial perspectives.

The organizations’ need to satisfy consumers’ demand often generates various environmental negative impacts caused by delayed responses to different environmental issues. Therefore it is necessary that this relation between organizations and environment be effectively managed. This can be done only by implementing and integrating an Environmental management system (EMS). Likewise analyzing this issue through another perspective, the EMS can be considered as a hierarchical management system – that is “limited”, having in view the explosive modifications that define the current social reality. This paper presents the research results conducted at the level of NE Romania largest organizations that are predominantly developing industrial activities. The study sample is 171 organizational managers. The paper aims to improve EMS integration quality process by transforming and adapting its architecture relying on the principles of Fractal philosophy. Therefore, the general objective of this work is the development of a theoretical framework as a model based on Fractal design that should improve the EMS integration quality. It must be noted that this research also results in a practical component, since it provides the organizational manager with new working instruments in order to improve the EMS organizational integration.

The complex activities for the implementation of renewable energy projects (RES) need a well-documented entrepreneurial plan to find qualified suppliers for the development of RES projects. The activities of the chain links in RES projects, respectively, the transport of heavy components, require a collaborative logistics system to be continually monitored. The requirements stringency imposed for the implementation of wind energy projects inevitably implies infrastructure, implementation and logistical constraints. Special parts of the wind turbine can be difficult to handle due to their fragility, weight or size and therefore it requires special treatment when transported. This work, based on the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method, respectively through a decision model provides an entrepreneurial plan for the intermodal transport needed to assembly a wind turbine in isolated regime, where there are challenges related to the high transport distance, low road standard and rough climate.

The great diversity of marketing definitions and characterizations is not favorable to the theory and practice of the 21st century management, being, generally, the consequence of a non-systemic approach and analysis of organization/ company functions. The present work aims to contribute to the increase of management and marketing rigor in order to achieve lasting/ sustainable progress in all areas. The methodology of systemic approach and analysis is applied at the level of organization/ company functions, while deepening the “marketing” mixed complex function. Starting from an original model “7 Environments - 7 Resources/ Products”, a systemic model with 11 functions of the organization/ company is being developed, the holistic (systemic) marketing and the related 9P marketing mix are being defined and characterized in a systemic manner, the stages of the lasting/ sustainable competitiveness cycle of holistic marketing is being described. The in-depth study of the content of self-contained cycles for the lasting/ sustainable competitiveness of organizations/ enterprises is the topics of future research. Applying the results in practice facilitates the organization's orientation towards lasting/ sustainable progress.

The division of labor and the growing number of businesses have led to the situation where the superior is no longer able to make all decisions alone and therefore is required to delegate. Delegation has been around for a long time and has become critical to modern businesses. We must differentiate between delegating an assignment, in the sense of delegation work and delegating the responsibility. These aspects are often misunderstood or not differentiated at all. Employees should not only be delegated with the execution of tasks but also with the related power to act and decide. Managing through conventional authoritarian principles is no longer sustainable within the current economic trend. This paper aims to present the behavioral pattern of the wrongly-understood delegation of responsibility, instruments and fear of delegation and how this type of approach, which is currently implemented in so many organizations, is actually a misconceived delegation of responsibility.

This article aims to set out the research protocol being used at IES Diego Tortosa, a secondary school in Cieza in the region of Murcia (Spain), in a project looking at attention and socioemotional factors. The project will be completed in early 2017. For this research project, a range of tests approved in Spain are being used. These include: self-concept tests (AF-5), social skills tests (EHS), psychometric testing (SOCIOMET), the STAI anxiety test, and the D2 test to assess sustained attention. The aim is to demonstrate the benefits of the BAPNE® Method as a teaching and therapeutic resource in the secondary classroom. Body percussion is an excellent resource for secondary education if the BAPNE® Method is used, because this method stimulates the different types of attention ( Sohlberg & Mateer, 1987 ,1989). The methodology used makes students work in groups in a cooperative manner, without hierarchies, which leads to an improvement in their behaviour and motivation. This form of working can also have positive effects on their achievement in other subjects, leading them to meet objectives and to achieve more. We aim to demonstrate a different form of education in which the student is the protagonist of their own development. BAPNE® helps to build a form of egalitarian education that improves the classroom atmosphere. We think a change in education is required in order to meet the needs of the young people of 21st century. As such, we will use the activities of the BAPNE® Method in the music classroom for specific reasons, sequencing them precisely.

The current understanding of inclusion within the contemporary Czech education system confirms the existence of possibilities of appropriate ways of working with chronically ill pupils in class. Moreover, teachers are expected to be able to cope with such demands as it is considered to be one of their professional competences. In order to improve these competences, the Faculty of Humanities at Tomas Bata University in Zlin implemented a project titled From Novice Teacher to Teacher Mentor, a part of which was an instructional module "An analysis of teacher's work with ill children". The primary focus of this study is this very module and the basic theses are as follows: What knowledge of children's chronic illnesses do novice teachers have? What does inclusion of the chronically ill child in a school environment look like? Did teacher participation in the instructional module "Analysis of teacher's work with ill children" improve their professional competences? The aim of the study is to point out the possibilities of professional growth of pedagogical workers, especially novice teachers when it comes to working with the chronically ill child. Developing healthy lifestyles among the youth makes mandatory the identification of good professional practices of social intervention with this collective, which establish work patterns that counteract the effects of misuse of leisure, and which promote healthy and sustainable leisure habits. Along this work, we tackle the identification of these practices from the analysis of needs, strengths and challenges of Spanish professional practice bound to youth leisure. This analysis is carried out from the agreed consensus opinion of 34 experts in the field.

The graphic novel represents a new and current state of the comics industry. Recent studies have revealed the great educational potential of comics. However, scientific literature on their use in the university setting is virtually non-existent. The present paper aims to promote the use of the graphic novel as an innovative teaching methodology with a great potential in higher education, and to present and assess the experience conducted in the Physiotherapy degree program at the University of Almeria. Students were provided with a series of graphic novels that take an entertaining and practical look at the social healthcare reality of distinct pathologies. Along with discussions and debates that were conducted in class, an individual reflective work was carried out in writing by the students, in which they expressed their satisfaction regarding this methodology. Based on our experience, the graphic novel should be considered an innovative teaching methodology with a great potential in higher education.

Although Spain is the third country in the world that has regulated marriage between people of the same sex, schools continue to overlook or even deny the reality of homoparental families. This work presents a case study conducted in a public Primary School of Huelva (Andalusia, Spain), whereby the factors that favour or hamper the school's intervention in family diversity are analysed from the viewpoint of faculty. The discoveries of this study provide greater knowledge of how educational organizations approach one of the most remarkable changes in our society in recent decades: transformation of the family. The results highlight the need to create an in-depth debate in the heart of the school community and focus on the teaching task as well as training, research and educational policies. This way, we can help foster social recognition of the changes taking place in our society and benefit from the inclusion of family diversity in schools.

The following research is aimed to analyze teaching practice related to the sustainable management in Pre-School Education (PE) centers. We understand sustainable management as those behavior patterns related to the treatment of resources in the center which employ them in an environmentally respectful way. As a qualitative method, we consulted 30 teachers using a semi-structured interview composed of 27 questions organized in 7 different analysis categories. The quantitative counterpart was carried out by means of a Likert scale which scored from 1 to 5 the aforementioned categories. In most cases, found weaknesses revolve around the energy, the management of water and waste, as well as the mobility solutions. Those aspects in which teachers have a larger scope for action, such as green areas and responsible consumption, obtained a better score and were considered as strengths. Teachers show a high implication in the greening of the curriculum of regular daily work in the classes and, on the other hand, a low capacity of direct incidence in the management of the resources of the center. This causes difficulties to intervene in environmental problems which require different levels of participation in the decision making process, and which involve multiple agents in the solution of the problems and the adoption of strategic measures. It is utterly important for the centers to carry out a complete and exhaustive eco-audit to elaborate a set of patterns to follow in order to correct and foster the detected weaknesses and strengths.

Gender violence and the violence exerted on social networks are particularly current issues of interest for both the scientific community and the media. When both types of violence are present during adolescence, a more specific area of study arises that is circumscribed to cyberbullying exerted and suffered by adolescents on the Internet. This work is part of a larger project carried out in secondary schools in Spain, with special focus on Andalusia (financed by BBVA, 2014-2016). The case here presented is the one for the province of Malaga. The educational community of Malaga is of a peculiar and heterogeneous nature that combines a large foreign section of the population that was the result of tourism (since the seventies in the past century) with other migratory phenomena that are shared with other regions of Spain. The purpose of the study was to show the prevalence of gender violence among adolescent students in the 15-17-year age bracket from the province of Malaga, and to identify the predictive factors of occasional and frequent violence on social networks. A survey was designed and validated that was applied in electronic format to a random sample of public schools in Malaga (n=282). The sample size allowed us to work with an error of ±0.06 (confidence level of 95%). The results and conclusions identify predictive factors of occasional and frequent violence, and suggest improvements to be made in action guidelines and protocols, as well as in the action to foster awareness among adolescents and the general public in regard to these issues.

The article presents the results of the 4-year study focusing on the evaluation of the quality of education at Russian pre-school educational institutions; the evaluation was carried out in the three major areas of the pre-school institution work: favourable environment at a preschool educational institution facilitating the development of a child, professional qualifications of teachers working with children and extra services provided by a kindergarten. To assess the effectiveness of pre-school educational institutions in these areas it was proposed to use 55 main indicators of the basic areas of their work. The present study undertakes to design a permanent mechanism of evaluating the quality of pre-school education at a particular kindergarten and of informing the general public about their quality and availability. The designed mechanism of ranking provides the interested parties with reliable information on the key aspects of the services provided by kindergartens in the sphere of pre-school childcare and education.

This work is devoted to the e-learning in the banking sector. There are identified the specific of training in this area, the difference and distinctive features. The article notes the existing problems and shortcomings. To solve some of this problems, the author propose a generalized model of e-learning course focused on the most effective self-education. The article selects the list of main results, on which training should be oriented. The article describes properties and criteria that should be include in training course, and analyzes the results from its implementation. It considers Donald Kirkpatrick's four-level model of evaluation of training efficiency. For each level of this model the author propose to calculate the relevant indicators to form a more complete picture of the overall evaluation of the training course, objective and accurate assessment of the efficiency, more rapid analysis of the obtained results, and to get a clear structuring of the results and evaluations.

The design and implementation of healthcare policies regarding the assisted reproduction can exclude female couples through a series of legal and social barriers. It happens when a family model associated with the heterosexual couple is reinforced. The aim of this work is to analyse the perception that female couples have regarding the Spanish legislation on assisted reproduction techniques. An ethnographic research was conducted with eleven female couples. The results show that the access to assisted reproduction is determined by socio-political conditions. Consequently, this situation affects the paths to access (public or private), as well as their experiences in the healthcare process. Finally, it may be concluded that it is necessary a design of inclusive health policies that promote the health of the entire population, without excluding anyone because of their sexual orientation.

The paper explores the higher education institution experience activities regarding minors’ protection against abuse and exploitation within the international framework of the challenge under study. The research stands on the comparative analysis of the Lanzarote Committee documents, explored Parties’ replies to Question 2 (Education for children) of the Thematic Questionnaire and Question 8(a) (Education, awareness raising and training), first indent, of the General Overview Questionnaire. The analysis also took into account Academia's publications on the issue under study. The Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia (RUDN University) faculty members’ participation in the Lanzarote Committee work also contributed to the research. The paper highlights qualitative analysis findings that cover such issues as the education contexts for preventive information delivery, their contents, tools and forms of disseminating preventive information, terminology used, parents’ engagement, situations of risks, etc. The above aspects are considered through the lenses of university engagement in the analysis. The paper argues that the university can contribute to capacity-building measures for minors’ education to prevent their abuse and exploitation; the university capacity to perform the relevant activities rests on its multiprofiled structure, comprehensive nature, and opportunities to collaborate with various agencies and engage specialists in pedagogy, law, medicine, psychology and psychiatry, etc. The research findings reveal that the university might play a significant role in shaping information, bridging institutional responses, coordinating the legislation, government policies and the public initiatives to promote action plans towards the nation-wide and international levels to protect minors and combat against their abuse and exploitation.

New educational standards of higher education in Russian Federation expand the frames of educational institution towards the formation of electronic information-educational environment (EIEE). Along with internal resources of educational institution, public web-services and educational resources, created by intellectual work of pedagogical community, becomes an effective mechanism in the development of e-learning environment. Teacher obtains additional opportunities for creative approach to organization of educational process, for organization of educational collaboration, for involving students in the process of EIEE development. Teacher can transform students’ learning activities from reproductive form into productive, personalized form. Organization of this kind of educational activities helps to develop professional competences of modern professionals. The paper discusses some of the approaches to educational process in EIEE of students of bachelor program 09.03.03 Applied Informatics in Kazan (Volga) Federal University.

In Spain, the dual Vocational training is an innovative model who is characterized for combining the imparting of theoretical – practical contents in the educational centers in narrow collaboration with the companies. This work includes a training program in safety and labor healthe laborated by the profesor ship and the experts of the company Repsol, directed the pupils of dual FP during the promotions 2012 - 2014 and 2014-2016, whose contents and temporary sequence have been adapted to the official program of studies and to the respective model of production of the company. Departing from the raised aims, we conclude that the pupils had the opportunity to learn in a real environment, promoting conceptual and procedural contents to level of safety and labor health. The ultimate aim of this analysis is to announce the program of training and to offer pedagogic offers of improvement for future courses.

This paper presents a proposal of application the teaching case method. This method, based on case studies, helps to develop the arguments to a point of view. The case study is defined as an in depth exploration method of realities (cases); presenting investigative analyses. This method promotes critical thinking, encourages debates and stimulates teacher and students interaction. This article presents the teaching case method and a brief history of the case method in Brazil. This work was conducted through literature review and ends with a proposal of application of the method as an active learning strategy. Conclusions point the feasibility of the method as a teaching strategy.

This research is part of an educational project†, developed in Infant and Primary schools in Murcia, with a purpose to examine the appraisal of teachers and families involved in the integration of foreign students into the classroom. To achieve this, a mixed methodology was followed, using a questionnaire and debate groups for researching. The results obtained in both groups showed that educational work is mainly affected by the incorporation of these students into the classroom. Furthermore, opinions are divided on whether such incorporation affects educational achievement in a positive or a negative way.

The role of nanotechnologies is increasingly important in our society; their use has marked the beginning of a new era, like the press and Internet. The implications in the near future are many and surprising, from energy to environment, from medicine to building sector, from engineering to transport and telecommunications. It is a scientific and technological challenge, which requires work coordination of projects and available resources. The eco-innovation is a theme in evolution, as a frontier of new materials, innovative production methods (Green Technologies) and purchasing (Green Procurement), innovations in the transportation of people and goods, the opportunities offered by ICT world. In addition we will consider also open questions about the effects of nanotechnology on human health and the environment and the multidisciplinary research work required for supporting regulatory actions.

The paper deals with implementation of telework and highlights the inconsistencies in presented outcomes of various surveys focusing on numbers of organizations implementing it. These discrepancies result from differences in legislation of individual countries and differing methodologies used in individual surveys. The research data present the implementation of a particular type of telework (contract and employee telework) in Slovakia and compares the extent to which these work arrangements are implemented in SMEs and large enterprises and in the organizations classified by their ownership scheme.

The aim of this study is to advance awareness of fun in workplace. Fun plays a pivotal role in organizations –workplace- as in daily life and can be a powerful form of friendship, leading to extra role behavior and cognition, emotion and physical engagement. With a sample of 195 white-collar employees, we tested the relationship between workplace fun (fun activities, manager support and coworker socializing) and taking charge. Additionally, we investigated whether taking charge mediated the effects of workplace fun on job engagement. Moreover, the study contributes the understanding the role of fun activities, coworker socialization and manager support for fun to provide change oriented voluntarily behaviors (i.e. taking charge) and job engagement. By illuminating positive findings in workplace fun research, we hope to encourage more research that examines the beneficial aspects of fun for employees and teams in organizations.

As a new and inquiring concept, cyberbullying has attracted many researchers from a variety of disciplines. However, a specific context of the cyberbullying concept, workplace cyberbullying and its impact on employees’ behaviors has rarely been theoretically reported in the literature. Addressing this particular gap in the literature, we develop a conceptual model encapsulating the relationship between workplace cyberbullying and counterproductive work behaviors (CWBs) and the role of employees’ emotional intelligence on this relationship in particular. This study contributes to the literature in three ways. First, the theoretical framework proposed highlights the effects of workplace cyberbullying on employees’ CWBs (i.e. CWB towards people (CWB-P) and CWB towards organization (CWB-O)). Hence the focus is, on distinguishing workplace cyberbullying from other cyberbullying types, and building a theoretical background for the relationship of workplace cyberbullying and CWBs variables. Second, based on Wong and Law's model this study aims to assess the possible role of emotional intelligence to eliminate undesirable behaviors at work. Thus we propose that having a high degree of emotional intelligence (EI) gives the employees the ability to handle workplace stressors better. Third, this research integrates organizational behavior literature to the emotional intelligence literature through offering a theoretical framework where employees’ emotional intelligence is a process consisting of 1) others’ emotion appraisal, 2) use of emotion, 3) self-emotion appraisal, and 4) regulation of emotion which allow them to deal with cyberbullying as a negative organizational behavior.

The article gives the outline of a case study supported by Southern Federal University and conducted in a number of pre-school educational establishments in Rostov-on-Don, Rostov Oblast and Sochi (South of Russia) in 2010-2016. The research included several stages: detecting gifted preschoolers (by using inventories for kids and their parents) and providing pedagogical support for overall development of their world outlook and values. The authors describe a systematic approach to developing giftedness which includes use of fairy-tales, active gaming technologies and work with letters. The above techniques contribute to harmonious psychological and cognitive development of preschoolers.

The purpose of the paper is to examine two dimensions of Emotional Intelligence (E.I.), awareness and management of emotions, among the public sector's working groups and specifically in National Centre for Public Administration and Local Government (N.C.P.A.L.G.) and their impact on improving the way they work. The participants in a convenience sample are the employees of N.C.P.A.L.G. The E.I. proved to be an important factor in achieving the organization's goals, cooperation and level of trust between team members. It wasn’t found a correlation between the two dimensions E.I. the punctual and accurate implementation of tasks. The concept of E.I. can be incorporated into certain activities of Human Resource Management as recruitment and working groups’ composition. Furthermore, educational programs aimed at improving E.I. could be designed and implemented in order public administration to be efficient. N.C.P.A.L.G. is the national strategic agent for the development of the Human Resources of the Public Administration and Local Government and delivers specialized officers of rapid promotion. Its mission is to improve the efficiency of public sector services and it was considered the appropriate organization to conduct the survey both in terms of work organization and due to the institutionally strong N.C.P.A.L.G's position in promoting and implementing changes.

In the recent years, there has been an increasing trend in organizations to give teams more responsibility to work on major tasks. More companies are getting to recognize that the best way to meet customer satisfaction, higher quality products, and faster service challenges is through coordinated efforts of employees. The increasing number of mergers, joint ventures and strategic alliances is bringing people from distinct cultures and types of organizations together. As a result, in the twenty first century managers have become more concerned with managing diversity in organizations. Diversity offers both potential costs and benefits for the organization. This research explains how managers can lead and manage diverse teams. Further, it shows how managers could manage more effectively diverse team whose members have different ages, genders and nationalities or even belong to distinct ethnic or cultural groups. Therefore, this research paper is focusing on one of the main recent challenges in management and business, which is managing and leading a diverse workforce. As a major challenge for all mangers in the world is to lead and treat a diverse workforce in an equitable and fair manner.

This study survey has attempted to explore assessment of a European multinational company's new product idea generation potential linked to their industrial teams’ diversified capabilities as well as their work potential. The study is carried out by employing quantitative, supported through qualitative, research methodologies. The aim behind such an evaluation is to identify and compare the differences in work approaches as well as the specialization in each one of the three target global teams (i.e. Norway, Finland, the UK) of a European multi-national organization, linked to the new product idea generation operations. The study results revealed that team working in Finland's office is strong in ‘NPD team climate trends’ with the scores 3.6, the UK office displayed higher scores on ‘strategic thinking trends’ with the scores 3.6 while Norway office location is strong at ‘NPD idea support trends’ with the overall scores of 3.6.

Globalization, increasing competition, changes in demographic structure of population, and development of information and communication technologies (ICT) are the factors that have posed new challenges for organizations in recent years. The newly fledged conditions have vital impact on production methods and procedures as well as work arrangements in organizations. Currently, organizations cope with various times in which work is executed as well as various places where it is executed. Thanks to ICT an employee can work at the client's place, at home, in a means of transport or in a cafe. All these situations constitute the work arrangement in which the worker is considered to work ‘from distance’, i.e. as a teleworker. The presented approach refers to the flexible work arrangement where an organization's priority lies with its endeavour to become and stay flexible in terms of time and place of performance. Under these conditions the implementation of new ways of work arrangements presents new challenges for leadership. To accomplish this basic function of management when employees are not present at workplace or even are not available during working hours and face-to-face communication is impossible poses many difficulties. The paper focuses on comparison and identification of the differences between traditional work arrangements and telework, highlights weak points in leadership of teleworkers, and proposes a leadership model for teleworkers’ induction.

With this text we focus on the ability Creative Debate has to empower and create disruptive thinking, within the context of University design studies. This research understands creative debate as any debate where participants create the layout, reach agreements, manage its own development and assess the results, all lead autonomously and creatively. One of the items that define the debate as creative is the participants’ design of the “discussions”, that is to say, the design of the activities that bring the topics to be discussed into play on a more experienced way. And this means to previously work on developing a script and a phase of pre-production for those activities that will help to boost, generate, create arguments within the debate. And this work is starting to being developed by design professionals who focus their own work on the design of intangibles (services, systems, situations, cooperation), instead of producing material goods. As a case study we will use a debate undertaken by students from 3rd year at Grau de disseny d’Eina (Eina's Bachelor Degree in Design), Art and Design College, on April 2015.

There seems to be a common understanding that the Norwegian construction industry faces challenges concerning the presence of delays and defects in the handover process. However, little research has been found regarding countermeasures to avoid these problems. This paper forms a part of a research project on handover processes in Norwegian construction projects, initiated by the municipality of Trondheim. It is supposed to work as a pilot study for further research, and examines: 1) Consequences of delays and defects, 2) the causes of them and 3) potential countermeasures that can be implemented. The case studied was the expansion of a shopping centre in Norway, a complex project, both structurally and organisationally. In addition to a literature review and a documentation study, nine semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted. All of the interviews were case-specific, with client, contractor and user representatives respectively. The consequences of delays and defects were severe and resulted in additional costs, lower quality on the final product and psychological strain for the involved actors. Short construction period, diffuse contractual relationships, lack of quality assurance and a high degree of alteration work are found to constitute the most crucial causes. On the basis of the observed challenges different countermeasures are suggested. Building commissioning, realistic project plans, control on deliveries and independent control are recommended as countermeasures. The findings indicate a great potential for improvement by keeping the control throughout the whole project. Further experiments are needed to substantiate the recommendations of this paper.

This paper reports on a study of the most common buildings defects at the handover, and examines the causes of defects, the consequences for main contractor, subcontractors, users and clients and improvement opportunities. The purpose of the study is to help better planning at handover with less deviation to increase value for client, contractors and users. The case study based research including a literature study and case studies from the respective cases and interviews with key participants from both the clients’ and contractors’ organization. The results show that the most frequent defects registered at the handover are related damage to surfaces. These are usually due to by human errors, fall of tools, locating of heavy materials, transportation of goods and materials and time limits. These are mostly neither difficult nor expensive to correct. Defects related to the technical installations are the next area that has the most frequent negative deviations. The technical installation should work together to complete the whole system functioning, so problem in one component prevents the whole system to fully functioning. The main reason for defects is incomplete and poor design. Economic losses and undermine confidence between the different stakeholders in the construction industry are the main consequences of defects. More attention to technical installations and less on surface appearance during the handover process, following up standard contracts, detailed and realistic forward planning to avoid time constraints and continues dialogue with client recommended to avoid defects.

Malang Southern Coast is one of the areas highly potential in earthquake and tsunami. An effective mitigation system is needed to manage them. Dual Mitigation System is a system combining Indonesia Tsunami Early Warning System (INA-TEWS) and Automatic Packet Reporting System (APRS). INA-TEWS is a warning system when the earthquake or tsunami takes place. APRS is a radio system to share information digitally. Radio wave can work in emergency situation. The methodology used is by analyzing earthquake data as a foundation of location determination to Dual Mitigation application system. The location of Dual Mitigation System was tested by evacuation process speed and information of APRS. The results show that this system is an effective early warning system employing INA-TEWS data and it gives evacuation process in about 4-6 minutes and 7-10 minutes faster using vehicle and without vehicle by APRS compared to the existing conventional method.

The determination of petrol filling station location in Surabaya has not considered the stakeholders’ preference on environmental safety perspective and also the sub surface condition yet. As a vital facility, this condition may lead to disastrous condition. Thus, the objective of this paper is to recommend petrol filling station location which is safe for environment and living community in surrounding. As the extend of previous work which is focus on stakeholders’ preference, this current work emphasized on subsurface condition which may influence the stability of petrol filling station infrastructure. However, the result of previous study still will be presented to keep the good coherence of the discussion. Three stages have been set up to reach the objective of this study. Firstly, assess the stakeholder's preference for petrol filling location criteria using AHP method. Secondly, assess and mapping the seismic microzonation using fuzzy clustering method. Thirdly, suitability analysis based on stakeholder's preference and seismic microzonation to find recommended location using GIS method. As the result of the study shows that based on stakeholder's preference, the proper selection of land use criteria appears as the most important criteria for determining petrol filling station location and yielded 31,2% influence. Based on seismic microzonation, the North part of Surabaya mainland from East to West which is near to Madura Straight is high susceptible for local seismic. As a conclusion based on the overlay mapping of these two findings, the Central part of Surabaya heading to West is the most suitable location for petrol filling station. The result of this study could be used as an evaluation for existing petrol filling station location or either for future preference. In another hand, it could be a very useful recommendation for zoning regulation to control the development of petrol filling station which doesn’t concern environmental safety.

How do we best help our time-pressured academics design rich blended and online courses? To address this challenge, University College London has developed ABC, an effective and engaging hands-on workshop that has now been trialled with great success over a range of programmes. In just 90 minutes using a game format teams are able to work together to create a visual ‘storyboard’ outlining the type and sequence of learning activities (both online and offline) required to meet the module's learning outcomes. ABC is particularly useful for new programmes or those changing to an online or more blended format. We are currently expanding the initiative and developing a set of online support resources.

First, about study of the factors and principles which affect the metabolism of architectural form with theory of architecture flexibility approach. Second, about study the factors and principles which affect the embodiment of the concept of Magersari with theory of mixed use approach. The results showed that the smart city not merely about technology, but must be supported by local wisdom.

This paper focuses on education process in children that attend primary and secondary schools, university students and also adults in the field of alternative farming in urban environment, taking as an example theoretical education and practical work. It is experience-based teaching and further education that focuses on new trends in farming (growing food) in urban environment, extending knowledge of alternative means of farming, food protection and ecological thinking. People that participate in such activities get direct experience that should provide them with information and practice. Educational process is realized not only through theoretical teaching, but also practical work outside the school, where children acquire practical work experience, get the idea of working habits, learn to look at land with respect, think ecologically and construct their value ladder.

This paper examines the handover process in Norwegian construction industry, focusing on commercial buildings. Improving handover processes reduces the number of conflicts, increases user value, improves indoor climate along with securing overall building performance, both in closing construction phases as well as throughout the building lifetime. As little research is found on the subject, a collective project was initiated by the municipality of Trondheim. This case study is limited to a single, environmentally certified, office building in Norway. The paper aims to determine main delay and defect causes. Finally, some countermeasures are identified. A literature review along with a document study was performed. Seven semi-structured, case specific interviews were conducted in addition to a pilot study consisting of three interviews on the same topic. The case respondents are project managers from contractor and client with extensive experience from the Norwegian construction industry. Several causes in contractor-client interfaces were identified. Among the most critical were late changes and decision-making, lacking understanding of limitations and potential in design-build contracts, conflicting interpretation of specification of work along with complex technical installations. Possible countermeasures are found to be strict decision planning, sufficient time buffers, early reconciliation of client expectations together with sufficiently detailed specification of work and significant specialist knowledge in complex technical coordination. This paper investigates a little scrutinized part of Norwegian construction projects in an effort to better commercial building performance and profitability. Future research on multiple construction projects would help confirm or disprove findings and the identified countermeasures.

Our study proposes a cognitive and virtual safeguard, of architecture of tunisian middle class dwellings at precolonial period. The Tunisian domestic architecture included two main forms; the urban dwellings intramural and the suburban dwellings extramural, only one form was subject of work and scientific research; the intramural houses. Through this study we try to understand and to know the particularities of the Tunisian suburban domestic architecture for better conserve our heritage which is lost from day to day. The morphological and structural analysis of these buildings allowed us to study their logic of internal organization, their evolution and we are trying to extract the identity system.

Since the 1852 Haussmann's decree in which, although linked to a modernization programme, the notion of ensemble historique born, France has constantly pursued its innovative vision of “urban heritage”, by enacting the 1962 Malraux law on the safeguarding and valorisation of historic centres (1962) and introducing the zones de protection du patrimoine architectural et urbain (1983). Following the guiding principles of the 2002 Solidarity and urban renewal law, the notion of heritage has been integrated into an overall urban vision, including it into town planning tools. This work intends to present this conceptual advancement and its applications in France.

The European Higher Education Area proposes a reformulation of the teaching methodologies based on the education–learning teaching methodologies, oriented to a continuous process of acquisition of competences that improve the professional profile. The great variety of courses and universities involved in the framework of the European Higher Education Area are concerned to know the satisfaction level of students and how it is possible to attend to their needs. The present work provides empirical evidence of how satisfaction improves the perception of acquired competences of the marketing students who had followed the methodology of the International Virtual Consulting Firm (IVCF). It is an innovative project about an international educational program designed to bring college students closer to the skills required by companies to facilitate their entry into the labour market. The universities can use these results to incorporate similar methodologies in their study plans and to improve the attractiveness of their marketing studies.

The squandering of financial resources invested for the construction of public works has become an increasingly important issue during the continuing economic crisis and the slow recovery in the construction sector. In recent years it has taken cognizance of this critical and unsustainable financial weight that results in considerable economic and social repercussions. In addition to the corruption that require repressive intervention, there are methodological shortcomings in estimated economics, found both in the sector regulations, and in university courses. The work in this area, shows that one of the main problems arises at the programming phase of the works, when the erroneous assessment of the investment costs is reflected throughout the realization of the same. This paper is a summary of how scientific research into economic estimates may provide tools and identify shared methodologies, effective for the control of expenditure in the public works sector from the outset of the planning stage.

This study seeks to examine the awareness of food handler personal hygiene on food hygiene practices. Using quantitative approach, self-administered questionnaire was distributed to 400 mobile handlers in Shah Alam Selangor, Malaysia and only 320 questionnaires were collated. Although food handlers may be aware of the need for personal hygiene, they do not understand critical aspects of personal hygiene such cleaning work surface and control food temperature value while cooking. In order to prevent food borne illnesses, mobile food owners need to access and improve operator's knowledge, personal hygiene and the hygiene practices on food safety to consumer.

For decades the field of work motivation has been mainly shaped by Western theories, neglecting the cultural factor and its potential impact on work motivation. But one cannot talk about work motivation without calling into question the cultural factor. Cultural values influence how an individual perceives and interprets a situation and, thus, have an influence on behavior and, respectively, on individual motivation. Some endeavors to identify the relationship between culture and motivation have been made, but not enough to clarify this issue. The present paper aims to test the validity of Herzberg's Two Factor Theory for Romania and to adapt it (if necessary) to the Romanian cultural context. The main conclusion of this research is that, as formulated by Herzberg and his colleagues, the Two Factor Theory is not appropriate for the cultural context of Romania. However, the premises of this theory are valid: the sources of work satisfaction are generally different from those generating dissatisfaction and intrinsic work elements are motivators acting within the satisfaction area. However, in order to be considered valid in Romania, the theory should be adapted to the cultural context. Other findings are discussed.

Recently, there are mounting issues relating the climate change including global warming and deprivation of earth ecosystems which cannot sustain the current economic development activities. The high depletion rate of natural resources plus, the increasing consumption of non-renewable resources particularly in the construction industry has led to the environment deterioration. Also, with the growing social development, people nowadays have high standard of requirement for living especially in the urban area. With this, sustainable development has become more significant. Studies on green technology have been explored, but more visible results are still required especially in the rapid developing capital city of Kota Kinabalu in Sabah, where green areas are still being well maintained. The implementation of green technology in construction will support dynamic growth of economic development activities, while improving the environment. Hence, it is important to develop a strategic plan to promote the use of green technology while the areas are still developing. This paper presents the preliminary work on qualitative based research that will investigate the understandings and green initiatives in Kota Kinabalu from the perspective view of contractors, as they are one of the key players in construction industry.

The aim of this work is to know how many injuries occur during climbing and pruning to arborists and other operators who work on trees, the type of accidents and why they happen. This study was carried out during the period from 2002 to 2012 using INFORMO, the database of INAIL (National Organization for the Labour Insurance) that contains a list of serious and fatal injuries occurred to workers and counted by its Prevention Service. From this list only accidents related to operators who was working on trees, at least 2 meters above a stable ground without using elevating work platform, have been extracted. In these workplaces, operators should work safely using tree-climbing techniques with ropes and harness. The scope of the study was to understand the common triggers of injuries, if there are technical problems that can be solved, or other problems that can be addressed to decrease the number of accidents and their severity.

The major concern to the construction industry in general, would be the decreasing quality and productivity of end products; labour shortages; occupational health and safety; and allowing work to be performed where people cannot do. This paper discusses how the quality of life may be achieved by tackling the barriers and their impact to this initiative which could improve the industry in terms of productivity, safety and quality. This will also ensure the harmony between the environment and energy management with productivity enhancement for better quality products that could lead to better quality of life for the end users.

This paper looks into how daily life and identity of Roma people in Turkey are faced of altering by the urban regeneration projects. As a disadvantage group, Roma communities have been faced with urban development projects due to economical, social and physical deformation in their neighborhoods. Consequently, Roma neighborhoods get into subject of urban development plans which are aim to transform existing neighborhood into improved standards of life in the name of generating a decent and healthy social and physical environment for residents, to overcome problems of unemployment and social exclusion. None of projects achieved thoroughly to its aims. Therefore, this paper will focus on two urban regeneration projects on Roma settlements in Turkey which are located in Izmir and Istanbul. While analyzing the completed project in Istanbul, its experience will guide to evaluate ongoing urban regeneration project in Izmir. In so doing, we will voice the demands’ of Roma people in Ege district by an in depth analysis of field work which is consist of interviews, authors’ observations and surveys. Lefebvre's notion of right to the city movement will stimulate framework for analyzing fieldwork findings. The paper ends with a discussion on how the project cause altering Ege neighborhood's culture and how we can contribute to protect existing daily life of Roma citizens.

If the Labour Market Areas consist of «territorial units identified by a set of adjacent municipalities approximated with travel-to-work daily commuting flows», the change in the number of municipalities that make them up, can be considered an indicator of the changes in the levels of socio-economic interaction within the LMAs. In particular, in the hierarchical-functional LMAs, where the daily commute to work moves from the periphery of the system toward its center, the variation in the number of municipalities that are part of it can be interpreted as the result of a change in the attractiveness of the economic and employment level of the center for its immediate geographical surroundings. Following any changes in the spatial configuration of the 21 local labour systems of the major Italian urban areas and crossing data with that relating to demographic and economic level, an interpretive framework can be built of the evolutionary dynamics of these metropolitan areas and the role they occupy within the national urban system.

Recently, techniques in the construction industry have rapidly developed, and alongside these changes there have been demands for the complexification, advancement and enlargement of the technical level and size. Thus, the risks are becoming increasingly diverse in the process of progress on construction projects. It is necessary to minimize the impacts of negative factors on the projects through the investigation and management of risk factors before they occur. But, the investigation and analysis of impacts are difficult due to the interdependent relationships among risk factors, and mega projects, in terms of project units, are on the rise. It is necessary to investigate risk factors considering the relationship among many changes. Therefore, this study was conducted to investigate risk factors and to evaluate the importance among the risk factors of a construction project while simultaneously considering the risk impact and change impact. If, prior to the beginning of construction work, risk factors with great impacts are managed based on the analysis results, they are expectedly applied as index to support the successful execution of a construction project.
