The need to determine the sex of the fetus in early pregnancy is usually based on medical indications for early implementation of appropriate therapeutic procedures, and is sometimes driven by parental curiosity. Medicine has made tremendous progress in early diagnosis of fetal sex in the last decades. The diagnostic methods described in the literature are characterized by varying degrees of accuracy, cost, and potential risk to the fetus. For these reasons, there is an ongoing debate about when and in which cases a particular method should be used. This paper presents an overview of the current methods of fetal sex determination.
