Polyamide 66 was extensively utilized in various applications contributed by its excellent mechanical performance and outstanding durability. However, its high crystallinity renders it to have low transparency, which seriously limits its application in optical devices. Herein, a highly transparent polyamide (PA) 66-based copolymer was reported using 4,4′-diaminodicyclohexylmethane (PACM), adipic acid, and polyamide 66 salt as the reaction monomers. Wide-angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD) analysis revealed that the crystal phase of the synthesized PA66/PACM6 displayed a clear transition from α to γ as the PACM6 increased accompanied by a decreased intensity in the diffraction peak of the copolymer, whose transmittance was successfully adjusted reaching as high as 92.5% (at 550 nm) when the PACM6 was 40 wt%. Moreover, the copolymer with a higher content of PACM6 exhibited larger toughness. On the other hand, the biaxially oriented films of PA66/PACM6 (20 wt%) were also prepared, and it was found that the transparency of the PA66/PACM6 copolymer could be further enhanced via adjusting the stretching ratio of the film. Furthermore, the mechanical strength of the biaxially oriented PA66/PACM6 was also improved with the increase in the orientation degree in the stretching process, indicating that the physical properties of the transparent PA66 were significantly influenced by its alicyclic structure, and the introduction of PACM into PA66 was capable of effectively improving the optical and crystalline characteristics of PA66, revealing that the synthetic strategy has great potential for guiding the design and development of transparent polyamide materials. Organic-inorganic hybrid perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have attracted considerable attention due to the excellent optoelectronic properties of perovskite materials. The energy consumption and high cost issues of metal electrode evaporation should be addressed before large-scale manufacturing and application. We developed an effective metal electrode evaporation procedure for the fabrication of high-efficiency planar heterojunction (PHJ) PSCs, with an inverted device structure of glass/indium tin oxide (ITO)/poly[bis(4-phenyl)(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl)amine] (PTAA)/perovskite/[6,6]-phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM)/(E)-β-caryophyllene (BCP)/Ag. The effect of the evaporation rate for an evaporator with a small-volume metal cavity on the performance of PHJ-PSC devices was investigated systematically. Through controlling the processes of Ag electrode evaporation, the charge dynamics of the devices were studied by analyzing their charge recombination resistance and lifetime, as well as their defect state density. Our findings reveal that the evaporation rate of an evaporator with a small cavity is favorable for the performance of PHJ-PSCs. As a result, PHJ-PSCs fabricated using a very thin, non-doped PTAA film exhibit photoelectric conversion efficiency (PCE) of 19.21%, with an open-circuit voltage (Voc) of 1.132 V. This work showcases the great potential of rapidly evaporating metal electrodes to reduce fabrication costs, which can help to improve the competitiveness in the process of industrialization. In order to adjust the properties of polyamide 6 (PA6) and expand its application, a new strategy of introducing an aromatic imide structure into the PA6 chain through the random copolymerization method is reported. The diimide diacid monomer was first synthesized by the dehydration and cyclization of pyromellitic dianhydride and 6-aminocaproic acid before it reacted with 1,6-hexamethylene diamine to form poly(amide imide) (PAI) salt, and finally synthesized PA6/PAI random copolymers containing an aromatic imide structure by the random copolymerization of ε-caprolactam and PAI salt. The introduction of an aromatic imide structural unit into the PA6 chain could have a great influence on its properties. As the content of PAI increases, the crystallinity (Xc) and melting temperature (Tm) of the PA6/PAI random copolymer gradually decrease, but its glass transition temperature (Tg) increases obviously. When the PAI content is 20 wt%, the copolymer PA6/PAI-20 has the best comprehensive performance and not only has high thermal stabilities but also excellent mechanical properties (high strength, high modulus, and good toughness) and dielectric properties (low dielectric constant and dielectric loss). Moreover, these properties are significantly superior to those of PA6. Such high-performance PA6 random copolymers can provide great promise for the wider applications of PA6 materials. The development of hydrogels as wound dressings has gained considerable attention due to their promising ability to promote wound healing. However, in many cases of clinical relevance, repeated bacterial infection, which might obstruct wound healing, usually occurs due to the lack of antibacterial properties of these hydrogels. In this study, we fabricated a new class of self-healing hydrogel with enhanced antibacterial properties based on dodecyl quaternary ammonium salt (Q12)-modified carboxymethyl chitosan (Q12-CMC), aldehyde group- modified sodium alginate (ASA), Fe3+ via Schiff bases and coordination bonds (QAF hydrogels). The dynamic Schiff bases and coordination interactions conferred excellent self-healing abilities to the hydrogels, while the incorporation of dodecyl quaternary ammonium salt gave the hydrogels superior antibacterial properties. Additionally, the hydrogels displayed ideal hemocompatibility and cytocompatibility, crucial for wound healing. Our full-thickness skin wound studies demonstrated that QAF hydrogels could result in rapid wound healing with reduced inflammatory response, increased collagen disposition and improved vascularization. We anticipate that the proposed hydrogels, possessing both antibacterial and self-healing properties, will emerge as a highly desirable material for skin wound repair. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Decades of research into cryogels have resulted in the development of many types of cryogels for various applications. Collagen and gelatin possess nontoxicity, intrinsic gel-forming ability and physicochemical properties, and excellent biocompatibility and biodegradability, making them very desirable candidates for the fabrication of cryogels. Collagen-based cryogels (CBCs) and gelatin-based cryogels (GBCs) have been successfully applied as three-dimensional substrates for cell culture and have shown promise for biomedical use. A key point in the development of CBCs and GBCs is the quantitative and precise characterization of their properties and their correlation with preparation process and parameters, enabling these cryogels to be tuned to match engineering requirements. Great efforts have been devoted to fabricating these types of cryogels and exploring their potential biomedical application. However, to the best of our knowledge, no comprehensive overviews focused on CBCs and GBCs have been reported currently. In this review, we attempt to provide insight into the recent advances on such kinds of cryogels, including their fabrication methods and structural properties, as well as potential biomedical applications. The radial structural heterogeneity of thermally-stabilized polyacrylonitrile (PAN) fiber is considered to be a limiting factor affecting the mechanical properties of the resulting carbon fibers. In this study, we demonstrate that a low-dose (60 kGy) γ-ray irradiation pretreatment can effectively mitigate the radial structural heterogeneity of PAN fibers after thermal stabilization. The characterization results indicate that low-dose γ-ray irradiation only affects the physical structure of PAN through decreasing its crystalline size and crystallinity, rather than inducing chemical cross-linking and/or intramolecular cyclization. It is proposed that an increased amorphous region in PAN fibers prompted by low-dose γ-ray irradiation can facilitate oxygen diffusion from skin to core during stabilization, which results in the increased structural homogeneity of stabilized PAN fibers.
