1,1'-(2-Hydroxypropane-1,3-diyl) bis(1,4-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octan-1-ium) tetrachloronickelate (II) ([C3H5OH(DABCO)2]. NiCl4) has been successfully prepared and characterized using energy dispersive X-ray (EDX), thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometer (ICP-AES), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) techniques. In continue, the easily preparable nano sized reagent showed efficient catalytic ability in the high yielding synthesis of 1,4-dihydropyridine and pyrano[2,3-d]pyrimidinone derivatives during short reaction times. Ease of preparation of the catalyst, green reaction condition and simple work-up procedure are some of the other important advantages of the reported methods. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
